There are a lot of amazing destinations in Europe and for Philippine passport holders like us, we typically need to get a hold of a Schengen Visa in order to make those  ‘Eurotrip ‘ dreams come true. Don’t fret though because it’s NOT impossible to get one. For starters, if you got your eyes on the countries of Iceland, and/or Norway, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Manila processes all the tourist visa applications for it! (Norway Schengen Visa)

UPDATE : Travel restrictions to Norway have been lifted. For any recent news or changes, see here .

I managed to get a single-entry Schengen Visa before for Norway, and much recently, a multiple-entry Schengen visa when I wanted to visit Finland and Iceland this year. Hopefully, with my experience, I could help you get a successful application too with the help of this visa guide!

What to Do in Norway…?

Come and check out this list of the top things to do in Norway which features the best activities and tours to do in places like Oslo and more!

But before we go on, first some disclaimers:

  • NO ONE  can give you the guarantee of your Schengen Visa’s approval — not even a lawyer, a consultant, a travel agent, or an embassy employee. Anyone who says otherwise is most likely going to be a scammer. So what I’m rather offering you here is a comprehensive guide with helpful tips to  increase  your chances of getting that visa. Nothing more, nothing less.
  • There are different types of Schengen Visas (for fiance, work, study, etc.) but my main focus for this article will be a Schengen Visa for tourism purposes only. To see a list of requirements for other types of visas for countries covered by the Norwegian Embassy, go here . .

Schengen Area

A Schengen Visa is a document that allows the holder to travel freely within the Schengen Area or Zone for a maximum stay of up to 90 days in any 6 month perio d. This Schengen Area is a group of 26 European countries (22 European Union member states and 4 EFTA member states) that have abolished passport and immigration controls at their common borders and they are namely:

These 27 countries are namely:

  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark [1]
  • Liechtenstein
  • Netherlands [3]
  • Switzerland

[1] Excluding Greenland and the Faroe Islands [2] Excluding overseas departments and territories [3] Excluding Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the Caribbean Netherlands [4] Excluding Svalbard [5] With special provisions for Ceuta and Melilla

There are certain nationalities worldwide that are exempted from applying for a Schengen Visa, but as Philippine passport holders, in order to visit one or more of these Schengen states, we are required to apply for the visa. (Remember, Schengen Tourist Visa holders are NOT allowed to live permanently nor work in Europe, they only have the right to travel as a temporary visitor within the allotted timeframe indicated on their visa.)

» READ: How to Stay Longer in Europe

NOTE: It helps to mention that there are non-Schengen members in Europe that allow entry to their country if you have a Schengen Visa, namely: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Macedonia, Monaco, Montenegro, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Turkey, and Vatican City.

HOWEVER, you must check these details beforehand since their rules might have changed. Plus, customarily, only multiple-entry Schengen visas are allowed. For starters, you can check this list for a list of countries you can visit with a Schengen visa .

» When should I apply for a Schengen Visa?

Apply as early as three (3) months or 90 days before your planned trip date departure.

You can apply several days before your trip, sure — but it’s always best that you give enough time for the embassy to look into your application. After all, you wouldn’t want to make plans only to have the embassy provide you with a visa that has a validity period that’s NOT within your intended travel dates.

» Where should I apply for a Schengen Visa?

For Schengen Visas that have the main purpose of visiting a friend/family/national or reuniting with a fiancé/husband/etc. in a Schengen state, naturally, you should apply in the corresponding Embassy of the country where that person comes from.

Meanwhile, if you are planning to visit several Schengen Countries for your trip, your application must be made at the embassy of the main destination country — meaning, the country where you will be staying the longest . If the length of stay is almost the same, it’s best to apply for the country that you will first fly or enter in.

So as an example, you must apply at the Norwegian Embassy in Manila only if according to your Europe itinerary, you will be staying the longest and/or have any of Norway or Iceland in your itinerary.

» Which Schengen embassy will I have a better chance of getting a Visa?

There’s no such thing as an embassy that would easily give away Schengen Visas. But, if it is a question of time — like which Embassy can you get application results the quickest — then that would be an easier query for me to answer, which then leads us to the question…

» How long does it take for Schengen Visa results to be released?

To the best of my knowledge, the following Embassies usually release visas earliest in an average of:

  • Switzerland Embassy : 5 days
  • French Embassy : 2-5 days
  • Norwegian Embassy : 5 days – the Norwegian Embassy also handles Visa processing for Schengen countries that have no Embassies here in Manila such as Iceland
  • German Embassy : 7 days
  • Belgian and Netherlands (Dutch) Embassy : 15 days – the Belgian Embassy also handles Visa processing for Schengen countries that have no Embassies here in Manila, like Luxembourg and Slovenia
  • Danish Embassy : 15 days
  • Italian Embassy : 15 days

It can surely take longer if they need more documents or details from you.

Application Process for Norway Schengen Visa

Step 1: determine the type of norway schengen visa you need to apply for.

There are, of course, various types of Norway Schengen Visas out there that you can apply for:  a visa for residence, a visa for family visits, a visa for studying, a visa for work, a visa for transit, a visa for being a spouse, etc.

For this particular guide though, I will  only  be discussing the requirements for a short stay (less than 90 days)  tourist visa  since it’s an experience that I’ve gone through myself.

So if you have a different situation or purpose of visit, it’s best that you head over to this page  for more information.

Step 2: Schedule your appointment online with VFS Global

When it comes to the Norway Embassy, they do visa applications via their external service provider, VFS Global . Unfortunately, you  cannot just walk into their office to lodge an application because you need to book an appointment first online.

Here’s how you can secure a time slot:

  • Visit the Norway Application Portal website here  and then click the section that says ‘ Create new user account ‘.
  • You are now at a registration page where you need to create your own account. Provide all the details that is asked of you, and make sure that you are registering an active email address. Once done, click the button that says ‘ Create user account ‘.
  • Now that your account is created, you need to activate it before you can log in. So, check the email that you registered and look for a message from the Norway Application Portal ( [email protected] ). There should be a link inside the mail which you need to click in order to activate your account.
  • Your account is now activated and you should be on the log-in page. Enter the email and password that you set up and click the ‘ Log-in ‘ button.
  • On the next page, click ‘ Want to apply ‘ and then ‘ New application ‘, followed by ‘ Application forms for citizens of all countries’,  and  ‘Visitor’s  v isa ‘.
  • Check the box that says ‘ I accept the legal disclaimer ‘ and then click on ‘ Go to application form ‘.
  • From here on, everything will be quite easy to follow since it will just simply ask for your personal information, travel plans, etc. Make sure that you filled in all these details correctly.
  • Once you are done filling everything out, the next step is to pay the application fee which is  EUR 60. Take note that you can only pay this on the portal with a credit card.
  • Once done with the payment, submit your application form on the portal. When you do so, you will receive an automated message on your mail that contains a Cover Letter. Save, print and sign this document since you will need to submit it later on when you visit VFS.
  • Take note that visa applications with VFS can only be made from 11:00AM to 2:00PM, Monday to Friday.

Step 3: Prepare the required documents for your application

NOTE: From what I’ve noticed, Schengen Visa requirements are almost similar, but with only a few tweaks or changes; so, you must ensure that you follow and provide everything that the Norwegian Embassy requires as detailed below.

Once again, I am only going to tackle the requirements for a  tourist visa . If you have other reasons for tourism such as visiting other people etc., check the corresponding requirements on the VFS website .

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Bring all your original documents for checking.
  • Photocopies must be clear and readable. Remove staple wires and paper clips from your documents.
  • Feel free to add supporting documents to help strengthen the purpose of your application.

Requirements

  • Cover Letter.  Print and sign this cover letter that was sent to your email after you did the steps I mentioned in Step #2 above for the Norway Application Portal. Besides, it also serves as proof that you have paid the visa fee online. .
  • Day-to-day Travel Itinerary.  At this part, it’s good practice to include a personal cover letter  (different from the one above) along with an itinerary document so that you can properly explain the purpose of your trip — this becomes essentially helpful especially when you want to apply for a multiple-entry Schengen Visa. To see a sample cover letter and travel itinerary, you can view and download my file here . .
  • 1 Passport-sized Photo. This must have a white background, must not also be older than 6 months, and must be sized at 35 x 45 mm. Take note that edited photos are NOT accepted. .
  • Checklist.  Download the checklist form here . Make sure that it is duly filled out, checked (as per the documents that you will be submitting that are applicable to you), and signed. .
  • You must photocopy the first page containing your personal information, as well as ALL the additional pages which contain visas and stamps that are both valid and expired. .
  • I usually reserve my hotel stays via  Booking.com  and/or  Agoda.com . With them, you can reserve a hotel with NO  pre-payment and you can even cancel the booking a day before your arrival with NO cancellation charges at all. So yes, you can make reservations without any payment, you can change the reservation anytime, AND you can cancel them at no cost as well if in case your visa is not approved. .
  • Original bank certificate/transcripts for the last 6 months
  • Credit card statements for the last 6 months .
  • Proof of real properties (if applicable).  If you own any land, cars, properties, land titles, etc. bring the original documents as well as their photocopies. .
  • Later on, in case you want to book your flight, my go-to platform is Skyscanner since they offer the best flight deals:
  • For international providers, HeyMondo is accepted by the embassy and if you click this link , you get a 5% discount. The benefit of booking an international provider is that it’s easier to purchase as it is all done online in just a few clicks.

  • Certification of enrolment from the school.
  • If you will be going on a holiday during summer break, submit a certification of reservation, or certification of enrolment to prove that you are enrolled for the next school year/semester.
  • If traveling during the school year, a certificate of leave of absence from school should also be submitted.

NOTE:  If in case you are a Philippine national living or residing in a foreign country and you wish to avail a Schengen tourist visa, kindly inquire with the appropriate embassy in the country that you’re living/residing in about the requirements and procedures that you need to take ( as the process and requirements will not be similar).

Also, the Norway Embassy may request more information or additional documents other than those listed above in order to verify the contents and truthfulness of the documents you’ve submitted; so, be prepared for that.

Step 4: Submit your application at VFS on your appointment date

It helps to arrive early for your appointment and the VFS address for both Manila and Cebu are:

Norway Visa Application Centre – Manila Ground Floor, Ecoplaza Bldg., Don Chino Roces Ave., Makati City 1231 Philippines [email protected]

Norway Visa Application Centre – Cebu, Unit 503, 5th Floor, Keppel Center, Samar Loop cor. Cardinal Rosales Avenue Cebu Business Park, Cebu City 6000 Philippines

The process usually goes like this when I visited the Manila branch:

  • Arrival and waiting period.  Once you arrive at VFS, the security guard will confirm that you have an appointment and then hand you a document slip which you need to submit to the right window. Find a seat in the waiting area and wait for your name to be called.
  • If in case you have any missing documents, the staff will inform you about that.
  • If you have applied previously for the last 59 months you do not need to re-enrol your biometric data. However, there will be cases where you may need to re-submit your biometric data even if you have enrolled it previously. In such cases, VFS shall get in touch with you.
  • Do NOT wear colored or magnifying contact lenses which could alter your appearance.
  • The fee is Php 1,530 by 2018.
  • There’s an additional fee of Php370 if you want to send the visa results to you by courier. However, sending passports via courier is at the applicant’s own risk. The Embassy assumes no resposibility for this. (Delivery will be done in 1-3 days within Metro Manila and 2-5 days if the address is in the province. Should the mailing address be outside a serviceable area, you may have to pick up your passport in the nearest courier branch.)
  • Be advised that payment of these fees is NOT a guarantee that the visa will be granted. It also helps to note that these are non-refundable and non-transferable if your application is denied or if you decide to terminate your application.
The Norwegian Embassy still reserves the right to ask you to appear for a personal interview after checking your visa application.

Step 5: Wait for the results of your Norway Schengen Visa application

Once the Norway Embassy is done assessing your application, they will send back your passport and your other original documents to VFS. Consecutively, VFS will send you a text message or email that you can now pick it up. Make sure to bring your ID and the payment receipt when claiming your passport and results.

NOTE:  You can check or track the status of your application online via VFS on  this page . Please remember that the time for passport collection is from 2:00PM to 4:00PM from Monday to Friday, except on weekends and holidays.

Some other things to remember:

  • If you cannot come personally to pick up your documents, you may send a representative on your behalf with your authorization letter, photocopy of your ID, payment receipt, and a valid ID with a picture of your representative.
  • The Norwegian Embassy will NOT assume any responsibility if your visa application is rejected. And if it does get rejected, you will be given an  information sheet that shows the procedures you can take in order to ask for an appeal.
MY EXPERIENCE: – When I applied for a single-entry tourist visa, I got my results in just 3 business days. – When I applied for a multiple-entry tourist visa, I got my results in 15 business days.

Booking Essentials

Book an AirBnB

TIP: It’s a good idea to crosscheck the prices with other popular travel insurance providers like World Nomads and HeyMondo (as my reader, you get 5% off)! . However, take note that a travel insurance’s affordability typically means lesser coverage; so please always ensure that you read the fine print in order to decipher which travel insurance company is the right fit for you and your trip!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

If it can support your application even further, then sure! The Embassy encourages that, especially if you have a sponsor that will fund your trip, or if you have other documents that can help provide proof of your economical or social ties within the Philippines (example: pay slips, real estate properties, land title, etc.).

It’s not required, but it’s good practice to provide one.

Yes, I have. Check it out here .

Most of the Schengen member countries would need you to show that you have at least EUR 50 (Php 2,500+) per day of your stay. You can use this as a standard and this is the bare minimum, that’s why I suggest that you add way more money to it if you can.

With the Norway Embassy, it can take 3 to 15 business days. Like I mentioned previously, it only took 3 business days when I applied for a single-entry Schengen visa; however, it took full 15 days when I applied for a multiple-entry visa (most likely because they had to scrutinize everything since I was asking for more days, etc.)

There is no border control within the Schengen Zone, so yes — you can deviate from your original plans BUT only for as long as they’re within the Schengen member countries (unless, of course, you have a multiple-entry Schengen visa) and within the allowable dates stated on your visa.

Yes, it’s possible! According to the recent Schengen visa code, you can get a 1-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and lawfully used three (3) Schengen tourist visas in the past 2 years at the time of your application. You can get a 2-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and used a 1-year multiple-entry visa within the previous 2 years; and lastly, you can get a 5-year multiple-entry tourist visa if you have obtained and used a 2-year multiple-entry visa in the past 3 years.

Interviews are done by embassies since they usually want more information about your situation, if not verify . I have never been interviewed by the Norway Embassy but from my experience with other Schengen embassies, the questions will often be simple as it covers the following aspect. – Your background : proof of strong ties with the Philippines, your job, your financial capacity, etc. – Details & purpose of your trip : to where are you going to, why you’re going, how long, where you’re staying, etc. – Your relationship with your sponsor : only  if you’re applying with a guarantor/sponsor – Your travel history : if you’ve been to the Schengen area before, if you have relatives/family there, etc. Of course, the questions may vary depending on your circumstance but generally, there really are no difficult questions since they only want to know more about you and your trip.  So just be honest and concise.

Hi, thank you for this very helpful. I apply for norway tourist visa for single enrty. And finally got my tourist visa and its says MULT does it means that I can go to norway and come back to norway in a month? Because I plan to go to Sweden and back to Norway, btw my entry point is Norway.

Aileen Adalid

Hey Jacklyn! Yes, MULT usually means that it’s multiple-entry, so you can enter and exit as many times as you want as long as it’s within the validity period (make sure you take note of the fact that you can only stay in the Schengen Area for 90 days in any 180-day period). Enjoy!

Armi

Thanks, Aileen for this organized presentation of details for Schengen visa application. I hope to get an insight of how you managed to get a multiple Schengen visa? Can I just state that I intend to go back to Norway and FInland a year after my application now? I have gone to Europe for 4 consecutive years now but have been applying (and thus given) only single entries only (as I haven’t applied for the same country twice though except for Norway now). Thanks in advance.

Hey Armi! Yes, you can state that and explain why you want to do so. I got my multiple entry visa when I mentioned that I wanted to come back in winter to visit Iceland. It was my first multiple-entry as well so it was quite great! Hope they grant you one too! :)

Karen

Norway Bound: A Practical Guide to Obtaining Your Visit Visa

The information presented in this article comes from a YouTube video from the channel “Aicyl Mae Aparre.” In this video, the OFW vlogger talks about the requirements you need to submit to get a visit visa to Norway. If you want to watch the full video, then click on the link below:

A visitor’s visa allows you to spend a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period in Norway or other Schengen area countries. Residents of the Philippines are required to apply for a visitor’s visa, and the processing of applications from the Philippines is handled by the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok.

For those intending to visit multiple Schengen countries during a single trip or planning several separate trips within a two-month period, it’s essential to submit the visa application to the embassy or consulate of the country that serves as the primary destination based on either the length or purpose of your stay.

If your visit involves multiple Schengen countries, and it’s challenging to identify the main destination, you should submit your application to the embassy or consulate of the country that represents your initial point of entry into the Schengen area.

Before You Apply

It is advisable to submit your visa application well in advance, generally no later than 15 days before your planned travel. In certain countries where document courier services are involved, we recommend applying at least 4 weeks before your intended departure.

Applications can be submitted up to six months before the planned departure, extending to nine months for seafarers. It is recommended not to purchase your ticket until the visa has been approved.

Online registration of your application is mandatory before submitting the required documentation. During the application process, fingerprint submission is required, unless your fingerprints have been collected within the last 59 months.

It’s essential to note that visa agents operate widely throughout the Philippines. However, it’s crucial to be aware that the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok does not collaborate with any visa agents in the Philippines. VFS Global is the official partner of Norway in the Philippines.

Applicants are strongly cautioned against engaging with visa agents due to their tendency to charge high fees, provide inaccurate information, and, in some instances, compromise the overall credibility of an application by encouraging falsification of information and documentation.

Documents Needed

  • Ensure your passport is valid for three months beyond your intended travel date, with at least two blank pages. Include copies of the bio data page and used pages.
  • Submit a recent, unaltered photo taken within the last six months, adhering to specified requirements.
  • Provide a signed printout of the application form from the UDI online portal, demonstrating your commitment to the application process.
  • Secure travel medical insurance covering the entire trip and the Schengen area, with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.
  • Present bank certification, bank books, or personal bank statements reflecting regular income, credit card statements, or balances spanning the last six months.
  • If applicable, offer proof of social security contributions to strengthen your application.
  • If you own real estate, include a copy of the title-deed as relevant documentation.
  • Establish family ties in the Philippines by providing documents like children’s birth certificates or your marriage certificate, all issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Proof of Occupation

  • A certificate of employment verifying your current job status.
  • A certificate of leave absence if applicable to your current situation.
  • The most recent Income Tax Return to showcase your financial standing.
  • Evidence of company registration issued by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) or Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) registration of your business.
  • The latest Income Tax Return reflecting your personal or business finances.
  • A Business Financial Statement for a comprehensive overview of your business’s financial health.
  • A certified marriage contract issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) as proof of your marital status.
  • Certified birth certificates of accompanying children, also issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
  • Provide proof of accommodation, which can be in the form of a confirmed hotel booking, hotel voucher, or a signed sponsorship form by your host.

Documents Depending on Purpose

  • For a leisure trip, provide a detailed day-to-day itinerary outlining your planned activities during the visit.
  • A sponsorship form affirming your host’s commitment.
  • Evidence illustrating the relationship between you and your host.

Business or Official Visit

  • A certificate from your employer, including a letter from the Philippine company introducing the businessperson. This should cover details such as the purpose and duration of the visit(s), financial coverage, and a brief company profile.
  • Relevant personal data of the invited person.
  • The invited person’s function.
  • Length and purpose of the visit, along with the planned activities during the stay.
  • Details on who will cover the cost of the stay.
  • Name and position of the counter-signing person.
  • Provide proof of recent business contacts, showcasing the ongoing business relationship between the two companies (e.g., contracts, invoices), if applicable.

Online Registration and Payment

Before submitting your passport and other documents, it is essential to register your application online and make the necessary payment. If this is your initial registration on the portal, you must first create a user account.

Once you’ve filled out the online application form and settled the fee, you’ll receive a confirmation email containing a copy of your application form (schengen.pdf), application summary, and payment receipt. It’s crucial to print the application form (schengen.pdf) and present it alongside the other required documentation during the submission.

Application Fee

The visa fee amounts to EUR 80, with an exemption for children under six years who are not required to pay. For children aged six to under 12 years, the visa fee is reduced to EUR 40. To learn about additional groups exempt from the visa fee, please refer to the UDI website.

It’s important to highlight that the fee is paid during the application registration on the portal. Applicants who are eligible for exemption from the visa fee will receive a refund.

Notably, if you are applying for a visa as a family member to an EU/EEA citizen, the application fee is not applicable in your case.

Service and Courier Fee at VFS Global (the Norway Visa Application Centre)

In the Philippines, VFS Global, the Norway Visa Application Centre, collects a service fee for processing applications. There is also an extra courier fee to cover the expenses of sending documents to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.

Some extra services provided by VFS Global are not part of the service fee. It’s important to know that these services are optional. For more details, you can visit the VFS Global website.

One such service is booking an appointment to submit your application and supporting documents.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Embarking on the journey to obtain a Visit Visa to Norway is an exciting prospect for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). However, it’s crucial to navigate the application process carefully to ensure a smooth and successful outcome. Here are some common mistakes to avoid:

  • Submitting incomplete documentation is a common error. Review the checklist and provide all required papers to avoid delays or visa denials.
  • Double-checking information on the application form is crucial. Small errors can complicate visa processing, so ensure accuracy.
  • Neglecting to present clear financial proof is a common pitfall. Make sure bank statements and financial documents reflect your ability to cover your stay costs in Norway.
  • Initiating the visa application process at the last minute can lead to stress and time constraints. Apply well in advance to allow for processing time and unforeseen delays.

Obtaining a Visit Visa to Norway as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is an exciting opportunity, but it requires careful planning and adherence to the application process. By steering clear of common mistakes such as incomplete documentation, inaccuracies on the application form, and overlooking financial proof, OFWs can significantly enhance their chances of a successful visa application.

Introduction

Planning a trip to Norway? If you are a tourist from the Philippines, it’s important to know that you will need a Norway Schengen visa to enter the country. This visa allows you to travel within the Schengen Area, which includes 26 European countries, including Norway.

Obtaining a Norway Schengen visa may seem complex, but with the right knowledge and preparation, the process can be smooth and hassle-free. In this article, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to apply for a Norway Schengen visa for tourists from the Philippines.

Before we dive into the application process, let’s clarify who needs a Norway Schengen visa for tourists. If you hold a Philippine passport, you are required to obtain a visa if you plan to stay in Norway for more than 90 days within a 180-day period. If your visit is shorter than 90 days, you may not require a visa, depending on your nationality.

Now, let’s move on to the step-by-step process of applying for a Norway Schengen visa for tourists.

Who needs a Norway Schengen Visa for Tourists?

If you are a tourist planning to visit Norway from the Philippines, it’s important to determine whether you need a Norway Schengen visa. The visa requirement depends on the length of your intended stay in Norway.

If you are a Philippine passport holder and plan to stay in Norway or any other Schengen country for more than 90 days within a 180-day period, you will need to obtain a Norway Schengen visa. This applies to both tourist visits and other purposes, such as business or family visits.

On the other hand, if your visit to Norway is for a duration of fewer than 90 days within a 180-day period, you may not need a Norway Schengen visa, depending on your nationality. Some countries are exempt from the visa requirement due to bilateral agreements between Norway and those specific countries. It is important to check the list of visa-exempt countries to confirm whether you need a visa or not.

However, even if you are exempt from the visa requirement, you must still ensure that your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date from the Schengen Area. Moreover, you may need to provide evidence of sufficient funds to cover your stay and a return or onward ticket.

It’s worth noting that the Norway Schengen visa is a short-stay visa, allowing you to visit Norway and move freely within the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period. If you plan to stay longer or for purposes other than tourism, you will need to apply for a different type of visa, such as a work visa or student visa.

Now that we have clarified who needs a Norway Schengen visa for tourists, let’s move on to the step-by-step process of obtaining this visa.

Step 1: Determine the type of visa you need

Before you start the visa application process, it’s crucial to determine the specific type of visa you need to apply for. Norway offers different types of visas depending on the purpose of your visit, such as tourism, business, study, or family visit.

If you are planning a tourist trip to Norway, you will need to apply for a Schengen tourist visa. This visa allows you to travel to Norway and other Schengen countries for the purpose of tourism or visiting family and friends. It’s important to note that this visa is valid for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period.

However, if you are visiting Norway for business purposes, such as attending conferences, meetings, or exploring business opportunities, you will need to apply for a Schengen business visa. This allows you to engage in business activities during your stay in Norway.

For individuals planning to study in Norway, a student visa is required. This visa allows you to pursue higher education, attend educational courses, or participate in exchange programs in Norway.

If you are visiting family members or friends in Norway, you will need to apply for a Schengen visitor visa. This visa allows you to stay in Norway for the purpose of visiting relatives or close friends.

Once you have determined the type of visa you need, you can proceed to the next steps in the application process, which involve gathering the required documents. Each visa type has specific document requirements, so it’s important to carefully review the requirements before submitting your application.

By correctly identifying the type of visa you need, you can ensure a smooth application process and increase your chances of obtaining the visa successfully.

Step 2: Gather the required documents

Once you have determined the type of visa you need, it’s time to gather the necessary documents to support your visa application. The required documents may vary depending on the purpose of your visit and your individual circumstances.

Here is a general list of documents you may need to prepare:

  • A completed visa application form. You can find the form on the website of the Norwegian Embassy or Consulate in your country.
  • Your valid passport with at least two blank pages and a validity of at least three months beyond your intended departure date from the Schengen Area.
  • Two recent passport-sized photos, meeting the specifications set by the embassy or consulate.
  • Proof of travel arrangements, such as round-trip flight reservations or a detailed itinerary.
  • Proof of accommodation in Norway, such as hotel reservations or an invitation from a host.
  • Travel medical insurance with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000, valid for the entire duration of your stay in the Schengen Area.
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to cover your stay in Norway, such as bank statements, employment letters, or sponsorship letters.
  • If you are employed, a letter from your employer stating your job position, salary, and approved leave of absence for the duration of your visit.
  • If you are a student, a letter from your educational institution confirming your enrollment and approved leave of absence.
  • If you are visiting family or friends, an invitation letter from your host in Norway, including their contact information and details of your relationship.
  • Additional documents may be required depending on the purpose of your visit, such as a business invitation letter, enrollment letter from a Norwegian educational institution, or marriage certificate for spouse or partner visits.

It’s important to note that all documents should be in the required format and meet the specific criteria outlined by the embassy or consulate. Make sure to double-check the document requirements and provide any additional documents that may be necessary based on your circumstances.

Once you have gathered all the required documents, you are ready to move on to the next step of the visa application process, which involves filling out the application form.

Step 3: Fill out the application form

Now that you have gathered all the necessary documents, it’s time to fill out the application form for your Norway Schengen visa. The application form is available on the website of the Norwegian Embassy or Consulate in your country.

When filling out the application form, it’s important to provide accurate and complete information. Any discrepancies or missing information may lead to delays or rejection of your visa application.

Here are some tips to help you fill out the application form:

  • Read the instructions carefully: Make sure to thoroughly read the instructions provided with the application form. This will help you understand the requirements and properly fill out the form.
  • Use black ink and capital letters: Write legibly with black ink using capital letters to ensure clarity and avoid any confusion.
  • Provide accurate information: Fill in all the required fields with accurate information. Double-check your details, such as your name, passport number, and date of birth, to ensure accuracy.
  • Be consistent: Ensure that the information you provide in the application form matches the details mentioned in your supporting documents.
  • Answer all the questions: Answer all the questions on the application form, even if some of them seem optional. Leaving any fields blank may raise suspicions and delay the processing of your application.
  • Date and sign the form: Don’t forget to sign and date the application form once you have completed it. Unsigned or undated forms may be rejected.

Once you have filled out the application form, review it carefully to ensure accuracy and completeness. Gather all the required supporting documents, including your completed application form, and move on to the next step of the visa application process: paying the visa fee.

It’s important to note that the visa fee and payment method may vary depending on the specific embassy or consulate. Check the embassy’s website for information on the fee amount and acceptable payment methods.

Step 4: Pay the visa fee

After completing the application form for your Norway Schengen visa, the next step is to pay the visa fee. The visa fee helps cover the cost of processing your visa application.

The fee amount and payment method may vary depending on the embassy or consulate where you are applying. It’s important to check the embassy’s website or contact them directly to find out the specific fee amount and acceptable payment methods.

Here are some important points to consider when paying the visa fee:

  • Fee amount: Make sure to confirm the exact fee amount required for your visa application. The fee may vary depending on different factors, such as the type and duration of your intended stay in Norway.
  • Accepted payment methods: Check the embassy’s website or contact them directly to find out the acceptable payment methods. Commonly accepted methods include cash, bank transfer, or credit/debit card. Some embassies may require you to pay the fee in local currency.
  • Proof of payment: Ensure that you receive a receipt or proof of payment after making the visa fee payment. This will serve as evidence that you have paid the required fee.
  • Additional fees: In some cases, there may be additional service fees or charges associated with your visa application, such as courier fees or biometric appointment fees. Be aware of any additional fees and make the necessary arrangements for payment.

It’s important to note that the visa fee is non-refundable, irrespective of whether your visa application is approved or denied. Therefore, it’s crucial to carefully review and prepare all the required documents before submitting your application and paying the fee.

Once you have paid the visa fee and obtained proof of payment, you can proceed to the next step of the visa application process: scheduling an appointment.

It’s worth mentioning that the visa processing time and appointment availability may vary depending on the embassy or consulate. It’s advisable to schedule your appointment well in advance to avoid any delays in the visa application process.

Step 5: Schedule an appointment

Once you have paid the visa fee for your Norway Schengen visa, the next step is to schedule an appointment at the embassy or consulate where you will submit your application.

The appointment scheduling process may differ depending on the embassy or consulate. Here are some general guidelines to follow:

  • Online appointment system: Many embassies or consulates have an online appointment system that allows you to schedule your visa application submission appointment. Visit the embassy’s website and look for the appointment booking section. Follow the instructions and select a suitable date and time for your appointment.
  • Contact the embassy or consulate: If there is no online appointment system available, you may need to contact the embassy or consulate directly to schedule an appointment. Check their contact information on their website and inquire about the appointment booking process.
  • Prepare your documents: Before scheduling your appointment, make sure you have gathered all the required documents and completed the application form. This will ensure that you are fully prepared for your appointment.
  • Be prepared for delays: Depending on the embassy or consulate, there may be a waiting period for appointment availability. It’s advisable to schedule your appointment well in advance to avoid any last-minute delays.
  • Keep track of the appointment details: Once you have successfully scheduled your appointment, make note of the date, time, and location. Mark it on your calendar or set a reminder to ensure you don’t miss your appointment.

It is important to arrive at your appointment on time and bring all the required documents. Failure to do so may result in delays or rescheduling of your appointment.

Upon scheduling your appointment, you are one step closer to completing the visa application process. The next step involves attending the visa interview, where you will have the opportunity to present your application and supporting documents to the consular officer.

It’s important to be well-prepared for the interview, so make sure to carefully review all your documents and practice answering any potential questions that may arise regarding your travel plans, purpose of visit, or financial circumstances.

Step 6: Attend the visa interview

Attending the visa interview is a crucial step in the Norway Schengen visa application process. The interview provides an opportunity for the consular officer to assess your application and verify the information provided.

Here are some important points to keep in mind when attending the visa interview:

  • Be prepared: Review all your documents and be familiar with the details you provided in your application form. Anticipate potential questions about your travel plans, purpose of visit, financial situation, and ties to your home country.
  • Arrive early: Make sure to arrive at the embassy or consulate well in advance of your scheduled interview time. This will allow you to complete any necessary security checks and be prepared for your interview.
  • Dress appropriately: Dress in a professional and presentable manner for your visa interview. Your appearance can create a positive impression and demonstrate seriousness about your travel plans.
  • Be honest and confident: Answer the consular officer’s questions truthfully and confidently. Provide concise and clear responses, focusing on the information relevant to your visa application.
  • Provide additional documents if requested: During the interview, the consular officer may ask for additional documents or clarification on specific aspects of your application. Be prepared to provide any requested information.
  • Maintain politeness and courtesy: Throughout the interview, maintain a respectful and polite demeanor. Show gratitude for the opportunity to present your application and thank the consular officer for their time.

Remember, the visa interview is an opportunity to demonstrate that your visit to Norway is genuine and that you intend to abide by the visa regulations. By being well-prepared and presenting yourself in a professional manner, you can increase your chances of a successful visa application.

After the visa interview, the consular officer will make a decision regarding your application. The processing time may vary, but you will be informed about the outcome after a certain period. During this time, you can track the status of your visa application using the tracking system provided by the embassy or consulate.

Once a decision has been made, you can proceed to the final steps of the visa application process: collecting your passport and visa.

Step 7: Track the status of your visa application

After attending the visa interview, it’s important to track the status of your Norway Schengen visa application. This will help you stay informed about the progress of your application and any updates or decisions made by the embassy or consulate.

Here are the steps to track the status of your visa application:

  • Retrieve your unique tracking number: After submitting your application and attending the visa interview, you should receive a unique tracking number. This number is usually provided on your application receipt or acknowledgment.
  • Visit the embassy’s or consulate’s website: Go to the website of the Norwegian embassy or consulate where you submitted your application. Look for the section related to visa applications or status tracking.
  • Enter your tracking number: Enter your unique tracking number in the designated field on the website. Follow the instructions provided to access the status of your visa application.
  • Check for updates: Once you have accessed the status tracking system, you will be able to see any updates or changes to your application status. This may include information about the processing stage, decision, or additional requirements, if applicable.
  • Contact the embassy or consulate: If you encounter any difficulties or have specific inquiries about your application status, contact the embassy or consulate directly. They will be able to provide you with the necessary information or answer any questions you may have.

It’s important to note that the visa processing time may vary depending on various factors, such as the volume of applications and individual circumstances. It’s advisable to check the tracking system regularly for updates and be patient during the processing period.

If your visa application is approved, you can proceed to the final step of the application process: collecting your passport and visa.

However, if your application is denied, you will be notified by the embassy or consulate about the reasons for the denial. In case of a denial, you may have the option to appeal the decision or reapply if you believe there was a genuine mistake or if your circumstances have changed.

Tracking the status of your visa application ensures that you are well-informed and can make any necessary arrangements based on the outcome of your application.

Step 8: Collect your passport and visa

After completing the visa application process, attending the visa interview, and tracking the status of your application, the final step is to collect your passport and visa. This is an exciting moment as it signifies the completion of the visa process and allows you to start planning your trip to Norway.

Here’s what you need to know about collecting your passport and visa:

  • Notification from the embassy or consulate: Once a decision has been made on your visa application, you will receive a notification from the embassy or consulate. This notification will inform you whether your visa has been approved or denied.
  • Follow the instructions for collection: The notification you receive will include instructions on how to collect your passport and visa. It may specify the date, time, and location for passport collection. Read the instructions carefully and ensure that you bring all the necessary documents as specified.
  • Visit the embassy or consulate: On the designated date and time, visit the embassy or consulate to collect your passport and visa. Follow any security procedures or protocols in place at the premises.
  • Verification of identity: Upon arrival at the embassy or consulate, you may be required to provide identification documents to confirm your identity. This is to ensure that the passport and visa are handed over to the correct person.
  • Inspect your visa: After receiving your passport, carefully inspect your visa to ensure that all the details are accurate and match the information you provided in your application. Check the validity dates, visa type, and any specific conditions or restrictions mentioned.
  • Clarify any doubts or issues: If you notice any discrepancies or have any questions or concerns regarding your visa, immediately reach out to the embassy or consulate for clarification. It’s important to address any issues promptly.

Congratulations! Once you have collected your passport with the visa, you are ready to embark on your journey to Norway. Remember to carry your passport, visa, and all other necessary travel documents with you throughout your trip.

It’s essential to familiarize yourself with the visa conditions, such as the maximum duration of your stay and any restrictions on work or activities in Norway. Adhere to these conditions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit to Norway.

With your visa in hand, you can now focus on planning your itinerary, booking accommodations, and exploring the beautiful sights and experiences that Norway has to offer.

Applying for a Norway Schengen visa for tourists from the Philippines may seem like a daunting process, but by following the step-by-step guide outlined in this article, you can navigate through it with ease. Whether or not you need a visa to visit Norway depends On the purpose of your trip as well as your citizenship.

If You travel for business or Leisure with an intended stay of fewer than 90 days, chances are you won’t be needing a visa to come to Norway.

The reason is that Norway, as an EEA member is a part of the Schengen area. a European zone consisting of 26 countries where internal borders have been abolished, allowing the area to function as a single jurisdiction for international travel purposes.

This means that is no citizen of a Schengen area country you can travel visa-free to Norway.

In addition, no way to have agreements for visa-free travel with many countries, including the United States, Canada, the UK, and many more.

If you happen to be a citizen of a country Without an agreement for visa-free travel to Norway will have to apply for a Schengen travel visa.

If you are traveling here as part of a work or study program with a duration of more than 90 days, you have to get a residency permit.

Norwegian Visitors Visa

As mentioned, citizens of Schengen area countries and countries Norway has agreements with can travel visa-free to Norway for up to 90 days.

If not, you will have to apply for a visitors/tourist visa (Schengen visa). This Visa will allow you to travel not only to Norway but all of the countries within the Schengen area for up to 90 days.

There is one exemption. If you are a citizen of a country that requires you to have a visitors visa, however, you have permanent residency or a residency permit in a Schengen country or a country with which Norway has a visa agreement, you can still travel without applying for a Visa.

All citizens of Schengen area countries can travel Visa-free to Norway for up to 90 days.

If you wish to stay longer, you have to provide a valid reason for your stay and register with the police. alternatively, you can leave Norway then re-enter for another stay of 90 days.

There aren’t any restrictions on how long you must stay outside of Norway before re-entry, but you must be able to document that you left the country.

These rules apply for all Schengen area countries, which include:

Even though you may not be required to have a visa to enter Norway, there are a few requirements.

If asked, you should be able to provide documentation that shows your reason for entry, such as an invitation, and documentation that shows where you will be staying while you are in Norway.

Additionally, you may not become an unreasonable burden for the public welfare systems, meaning that you must provide proof of income or the financial means to fund your stay.

Norway has agreements with many countries for visa-free travel for up to 90 days. These include.

If you are a citizen of Albania, Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, or Serbia, you must hold a biometric passport then in order to gain entry into Norway through the agreement.

If you have a residency permit in a Schengen country or any other country that Norway has a visa agreement with, you may travel to Norway for up to 90 days without applying for a Visa.

In order to do so, make sure to bring your residency permit from the country that has a travel agreement with Norway, as well as your passport from your native country.

In addition, you should have the appropriate documentation required that shows your reasons for travel and intended place of stay.

If you reside in a country that is outside the Schengen area and does not have a visa agreement with Norway, you have to apply for a visitor/tourist visa.

Because Norway is a Schengen area country you have to apply for a Schengen visa. This is because once you are granted entry to Norway, your visa is valid for all Schengen countries.

Countries that require a visa to travel to Norway include:

This should be as detailed as possible and include means of transport, attractions you intend to visit, and if you are attending any events.

If you are traveling as a part of a tourist group, you should attach a copy confirming your participation in the tour package, as well as contact information to the travel agent/agency.

Once you have all the documentation gathered, you can continue by filling out an online application and paying the application fee.

The visa fee is EUR 80. Children under six years do not pay a fee. Children from the age of six years and below the age of 12 years shall pay a visa fee of EUR 40.

After filling out the form and paying the fee, you can schedule an appointment for handing in your application and all the necessary documentation at the Norwegian embassy in your country, or at a Norwegian Visa application center.

If your application has all the necessary documentation, the processing time is usually up to 15 days. However, it might take up to 45 days.

In general, it is recommended to hand in your application at least 4 weeks before your trip. You can apply up to 6 months before your intended arrival.

Once the application is processed, you will receive an email and SMS with the result of your application. If granted, you can pick up the passport with your visa at the embassy/application center, or have it delivered by a courier service.

When processing your application, one of the most important factors determining if you will be granted a visa is the likelihood that you will return to your home country once your visa expires.

Each application is considered individually, however, the general situation in your country is also considered.

In general, it is harder to be granted a visitor’s visa if you are from a country known for having a higher number of migrants and work migrants.

Such countries include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Philippines. However, your chances of being granted a visa are higher if you can document strong ties to your home country.

In addition, you have a better chance of being granted a visa if you take a trip organized by a tour operator.

If you want to start the process of applying for a visitors visa to Norway you can start by visiting the website of The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI).

If your application is rejected, you have the possibility to appeal the decision by submitting an appeal to the Embassy or Visa application center.

If you want to appeal a rejected application you can read more on UDI’s website here.

No, you cannot work in Norway if you visit on a tourist visa. In order to be able to work in Norway, you will need to apply for a residence permit.

In addition, you cannot come to Norway on a visitors visa to apply for work a residency permit. However, if you are currently residing in Norway on a student permit, you can apply in Norway.

To apply, head over to the portal on the website of The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). Here you can also find the rules and regulations that apply to you.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A TOURIST OR A VISIT VISA TO NORWAY

Table of contents.

Norway is known as  the Land of the Midnight Sun . It is famous for its phenomenal fjords, reindeer or sleigh riding, breath-taking lake views, and unbelievable magical skies. Aurora Borealis   or also known as  the Northern Lights is what Norway is so famous for. It is almost every travelers bucket list.

philippines tourist visa norway

In order for Filipinos to travel to this wonderful country, one must need a Schengen Visa to Norway to make it possible. In this article, I will guide you on how to apply for a Schengen Visa to Norway with your Philippine Passport.

Who is eligible to apply for a Norwegian short-term visa?

  • Your main destination –  Sa Norway lang kayo pupunta and will not visit any other country.
  • The country with a maximum period of stay– you will visit multiple Schengen countries, but you will stay the longest in Norway or Iceland.
  • Your country related to the main purpose of travel– you will visit multiple Schengen countries, but the main purpose of your journey is in Norway. (Example: you will attend a special occasion or a conference in Norway, but you plan on going out to other Schengen countries while you’re there.)
  • The State of first entry– you will stay in multiple Schengen countries for the same number of days, but Norway is your first point of entry, meaning, Norway will be your first entry.

Note: You can’t apply at the Norwegian Embassy when the only country you’re visiting is Estonia. You can’t apply at the Norwegian Embassy if you’ll be staying in Estonia for one week and in Norway for two days.

Important Documents to Prepare

2.   Two current biometrical passport photos (35-45 mm width)– have your passport photo taken. The embassy is very strict on their photo specifications. Fortunately, they have a   page   on their official website dedicated to explaining this. Bring at least two copies or more, just in case. You must then paste (do NOT staple) a photo on the designated space on the Checklist document. The second photo will be returned to you.

3.    Original Passport and a Photocopy of it as well as the Bio Page– The embassy requires that your passport is valid for at least another three months on the date the visa application is submitted. It also must have two empty pages for them to stamp your passport. If you have renewed your passport, bring your old one/s with you. These are needed especially if you have previous overseas trips.

Look: 33 Countries Where Philippine Passport Holders Can Visit Without a Visa

4.  Proof of travel/ Travel plan (travel destination, route, proof of accommodation, and itinerary)  –  a copy of the roundtrip airline booking with dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Norway. With the necessary documents needed, this should clearly state the purpose of your travel. You just need to show a flight itinerary from the Philippines that should cover your entry and exit to and from Norway and to all Schengen countries of destinations, including your exit and entry from MANILA TO MANILA (EX. MANILA-NORWAY-SWEDEN-NORWAY-MANILA).

  • A  cover letter addressed to the Norwegian Embassy Consul. If you are a first-time traveler to Norway, please submit an informal declaration through a cover letter explaining your willingness to return to the Philippines before the expiration of your visa: What exactly will be an incentive for you to return to the Philippines, and can you submit proofs for these circumstances?
  • Your day-to-day itinerary  –  be specific in indicating the place you will visit and the tours you will join or take. A good convincing itinerary requires planning and time to create. If you need help how to create one, watch my video:  https://youtu.be/kME1VdZdRiw
  • Flight reservation  – Reservation ONLY . Do not pay for your flight reservations until your visa is approved. You can avail of my services for a dummy ticket so that I can assist you with your flight reservations.  Get a flight reservation here .

philippines tourist visa norway

5.   Proof of accommodation or Hotel reservations  – you would need to show hotel bookings, but this does not mean that you must pay for your hotel reservations this early.

  • For  Tourist , you would need to show Hotel Bookings, Hostels, Airbnb or apartment.

➜  Document of identity, proof of citizenship/permit of stay from the inviting person: either a  photocopy of the sponsor’s passport/  residence card/  registration of residency ➜  your host/ relative/ partner who is based in Norway– the content should include the host’s exact address of residence, the purpose of your travel, and the full duration of your travel and stay at your host’s country.

7. Proof of vaccination – Vaccines that are recognized are only those that are registered by the European Medicines Agency (EMA): Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson.

Coronavirus: Ist die Kritik am Impfstoffmangel berechtigt?

8. Proof of Funds or Financial Capacity  – these documents are necessary to prove that you can either support yourself or your sponsor can cover your expenses financially during the whole duration of your travel.

  • Bank statements  – must show records of the past six months. A bank statement shows your transactions in your account at a specific period. It will show debits (withdrawals, payments, taxes, service fees) and credits (deposits, interest earned.) Bank Statements can also be seen online especially if you have a registered account. There is no signature for the manager or a bank officer.
  • Bank Certificate  – it is a confirmation by the branch manager or a bank officer that you have an existing account in their bank. It shows the account number, the type, and other details such as the opening date of your account, your account balance as of the date of request, and your average daily balance.
  • Other proof of income (supporting documents)  – although it is not really required, you can submit invoices and pay slip equivalent to prove that you earn enough to support this trip financially.
  • If applying as a Tourist or as a Visitor with a Sponsor  – this means that your host and/or sponsor (family, friend, partner, or fiancé) pledges to take full responsibility to cover all the expenses that you will incur during the whole duration of your travel.
If you maintain a bank account for a long time, better maintain it . Kahit na may sponsor ka, of course, plus points pa din sa visa application mo if idadagdag mo din bank statements mo, payslips from our employer, and other proof na financially capable ka din and most importantly, it proves deep rootedness as well.
Sponsorship Letter which should state the fact that he/ she is inviting you to come   over, your relationship with each other, and that he/ she is willing to sponsor you during your trip. Of course, it needs to have documentary proof.
Original Affidavit of Support , legalized by the Norwegian municipality (through Notarization) where the sponsor is registered and authenticated by the Philippine Embassy in Norway
The sponsor’s copies of: passport including the biodata page and travel history   (passport stamps) and Resident ID card
Recent proof of income of the sponsor   (3 last months’ salary slips, etc.)
Proof of relationship with the sponsor   (pictures together, Birth or Marriage certificate, and screenshot of chat conversations)

To know more about additional requirements that you would need from your sponsor, check out my YouTube video:  https://youtu.be/SEad8VHVkLk

9.  Proof of Civil Status  – Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Death Certificate of the spouse, etc. These documents must be issued on security paper (SECPA) by the Philippine Statistics Authority, see   http://www.psaserbilis.com.ph .

Note:  The birth certificate does not need to be authenticated by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Apply for a Norwegian Schengen Visa

The Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand is the one who handles visa applications. In the Philippines,  VFS Global  is their affiliate company where you can lodge your Schengen visa application which will then be submitted to the Norwegian Embassy based in Thailand.

STEP 1: Determine the type of Norway Schengen visa you need to apply for  and have a look at the checklist of requirements to gather all the documents that you need to submit. Each application must comply with the guidelines applicable for your visa category.

  • Visit Boyfriend/Girlfriend
  • Visit Brother/Sister
  • Visit Daughter/Son
  • Visit Mother/Father
  • Visit Other Relatives/Friends

STEP 2:   Gather all your documents for whichever category of visa you will apply for. Your application should be supported by a handful of paperwork based on the list of requirements needed.

Note: Once you have completed all your documents based on the checklist, make sure to secure another copy for each document.

STEP 3: Schedule your appointment online with VFS Global.  When it comes to the Norway Embassy in Manila, they do visa applications via their external service provider, VFS Global. Unfortunately, you cannot just walk into their office to lodge an application because you need to book an appointment first online.

Here’s how you can secure an appointment slot (Click ▼ to read more.).

Visit their Application Portal website here  and then click the section that says ‘ Create new user account ‘.

You are now at a registration page where you need to create your own account. Provide all the details that is being asked, and make sure that you are registering an active email address. Once done, click the button that says ‘ Create user account ‘ .

Now that your account is created, you need to activate it before you can log in. So, check the email that you registered and look for a message from the Norway Application Portal  ([email protected]). A link is included in the mail which you need to click in order to activate your account.

Note: Just in case na hindi pumasok sa inbox ninyo ang mail , check your SPAM mail. There may be instances that this happens too.

After account activation, log-in to the page with your credentials (log-in details). Enter the email and password that you set up and click the ‘ Log-in ‘ button.

Click:  Want to apply > New Application >  followed by  Appliction Forms for citizens of all countries > then choose:  Visitor’s Visa

Check the box that says “ I accept the legal disclaimer” and then click on “ Go to application form.”

Provide your personal information, travel plans, etc. Make sure that you filled in all these details correctly.

Once you are done filling everything out, you have to pay the application fee which is EUR 60.  Take note that you can only pay this on the portal with a credit card .

Once done with the payment, submit your application form on the portal. Afterwhich, you will receive an automated message on your E-mail that contains a Cover Letter. Save this attached document, print, and sign this document since you will need to submit it later on when you visit VFS.

Finally, click  here   to book your appointment time and date. Note : visa applications with VFS can only be made from 11:00AM to 2:00PM, Monday to Friday .

STEP 4: Once you’ve successfully completed answering the Application Form, you can now schedule your appointment either with VFS Manila or VFS Cebu, Here is the link . Please note that you will be required to create a separate username and password for the VFS booking system.

It is also important that once you get routed to this page, you must register your information and e-mail address first. If you have already done this before, skip the account pre-registration part and simply log-in. Once the reservation is done, you will receive a confirmation via email.

To know more about the step-by-step process on how to set an appointment, please watch my vlog that I made previously for you to be guided:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoYz_cWbbvchttps://youtu.be/EoYz_cWbbvc

Note:  It may show on the video that the portal is for setting up an Appointment for Netherlands Visa, but the same process applies to all Schengen Visa appointment process via VFS Website.

STEP 5: Once you completed all the requirements, show up on your appointment date with VFS Global. Show up on your appointment date. Bring all your documents as well as a photocopy of each. They will then collect your documents as well as your Passport, and get your biometrics.

STEP 4:  Track the status of your application on this link:  https://visa.vfsglobal.com/phl/en/nld/track-application

STEP 5: Pay the necessary additional service fees.  This is on top of the fee that you paid online to the embassy. Take note that this must be paid in cash and it helps to prepare the exact amount in Philippine peso only. Once paid, they will give you a payment receipt (that has your application reference number and details) which you should keep. If you lose this receipt, VFS will not release your visa and passport ; they will only release it after you give them a notarized affidavit of loss.

  • The fee is Php 1,530 by 2018.
  • There’s an additional fee of Php370 if you want to send the visa results to you by courier .

STEP 6: Wait for the result and collect your passport. You will be notified when your passport is ready for collection from the visa center where you applied. You can either pay an additional fee for the courier and have your passport sent to your address or you can pick-up your passport at the VFS Global. If your visa is approved, you’ll find a sticker visa in one of the pages of your passport. If your visa is denied, then you’ll find a white paper enclosed in your passport specifying the reason for denial.

Common Reasons for Schengen Visa Rejection

Here are the common reasons a Schengen Visa application gets denied:

  • No clear travel purpose —a detailed cover letter is a must!
  • Lack of strong ties —reevaluate your application and prove why you must return to your home country!
  • Insufficient travel insurance coverage —make sure you get the right policy!
  • No proof of financial means —convince them that you can afford your trip! Provide bank or credit card statements, VUL, investment portfolio, etc.
  • Passport does not have 2 free pages —where will they attach the visa if your passport pages are already full? You should get a new passport before applying for a visa if there are no more available pages on your old one!
  • No proof of accommodation —you need to prove them that you have a place to stay in the Schengen Area.
