When up-and-coming cartoonist Keef Knight has a traumatic run-in with the police, he begins to see the world in an entirely new way.

Babyshambles  have teased more reunion shows following  their reunion at a Pete Doherty solo gig .

The band, who formed in 2003 and ran until 2014, includes Doherty, Mick Whitnall (guitar), Drew McConnell (bass), and Adam Ficek (drums). They released three albums together: ‘Down In Albion’ (2005), ‘Shotter’s Nation’ (2007) and ‘Sequel To The Prequel’ (2013).

After Doherty  teased the return of Babyshambles to  NME  last June , the band  reunited for a gig at Pete Doherty’s solo concert  on August 28. Although only McConnell and Ficek joined on stage at Northampton’s Roadmender, sources told  NME  they spotted Whitnall at the venue shortly before the gig – but apparently he couldn’t stay.

Now, it appears that gig wasn’t a one-off after all, with Ficek teasing on Instagram: “4 out of 5 ain’t bad….wait for it….”

Babyshambles reportedly played a version of The  Libertines ’ ‘Don’t Look Back Into The Sun’ before playing hits including ‘Baddie’s Boogie’, ‘Back From The Dead’ and ‘Albion’ before finishing off with ‘Time For Heroes’ and ‘Killamangiro’.

NME  spoke to Doherty about their reunion earlier this year , with the frontman speaking on the potential of new material along with new shows: “The thing about the ‘Shambles is we had so many songs that we never got round to recording. In fact there’s one, called ‘Ocean’, which is now called ‘Stad Ocean’, which is on the solo album.

“But yeah, it’s just been a question of who’s gonna do what because there was a few Babyshambles line-ups and they’re all brilliant. In an ideal world, we’d get Pat [Walde, guitarist] and Mick [Whitnall, guitarist] playing and then maybe get Gemma [Clarke] and  Adam [Ficek ] to do some drums.”

The Libertines frontman also spoke of his documentary  Stranger In My Own Skin , which  NME  rated four stars : “At the documentary’s end, he snuffs out the possibility of a tragic finale, sharing a desire to help other addicts on their road to recovery. A title screen that closes it all out calls attention to the Libs’ upcoming fourth record, out next year, while promising ‘many more records’ to come.

“Years ago, such a finish would have seemed unlikely. [Katia] DeVidas’ film might be a difficult watch but, as well as serving up a reminder of the horrors of addiction, at least it gives us plenty to be grateful for too.”

Speaking to  NME , Doherty said of the film:  “I’m really happy for Katia, really. It’s been finished for quite a while. I just hope the world gives her the credit she’s due. Now we’re thinking about the next project for her. She wants to do a fiction film. Hopefully if this does well and she can get the money together for the next project, it’ll be amazing. I’ll just be made up for her.

“It’s quite heavy watching a lot of that stuff, but it is a different time. The fuzz, forcefield and camouflage of the drugs I was taking at the time meant that I wasn’t arsed about what people thought or how I looked.”

Watch Babyshambles reunite at Pete Doherty solo gig

The band returned during a performance in Northampton last night

Pete Doherty

Babyshambles reunited on stage last night (August 28) during a solo gig of Pete Doherty ‘s – check out footage and images of the moment below.

  • READ MORE: The Libertines talk being clean and connected: “We just want to write beautiful songs in the moment”

The band, who formed in 2003 and ran until 2014, included Doherty, Mick Whitnall (guitar), Drew McConnell (bass) and Adam Ficek (drums), released three albums together: ‘Down In Albion’ (2005), ‘Shotter’s Nation’ (2007) and ‘Sequel To The Prequel’ (2013).

At Northampton’s Roadmender yesterday evening, Doherty was joined by McConnell and Ficek for the latter half of the set for the first time since 2014. Sources told NME that guitarist Mik Whitnall was at the venue before the show too, but was unable to stay for the gig.

As per the  Northampton Chronicle and Echo ,  Doherty gestured to the side of the stage when McConnell and Ficek appeared and played a six-song set that marked a decade since their last performance together.

The band played a version of The Libertines’ ‘Don’t Look Back Into The Sun’ before playing hits including ‘Baddie’s Boogie’, ‘Back From The Dead’ and ‘Albion’ before finishing off with ‘Time For Heroes’ and ‘Killamangiro’.

McConnell has spent the last decade playing with Liam Gallagher in his touring band. Ficek wasn’t the first drummer for Babyshambles but played on their first two albums before departing in 2008.

Check out the moment the band reunited on stage here:

Bit of a coup for the @roadmender in #NN on Wednesday, when a @petedoherty solo show turned into somewhat of a @babyshamblesuk reunion when Drew McConnell and Adam Ficek joined him on stage for the latter half of the gig. #babyshambles #petedoherty #libertines pic.twitter.com/gLBELZM029 — David Jackson (@davidtjackson) August 28, 2024

Back in June, teased a Babyshambles return during an interview with NME .

“Yeah, I’ve been hearing that,” he said. “There have been whispers of that for a while, but now it looks like it’s actually coming together. You’d have to talk to Jai [his manager] about that because I heard he’d met up with Drew [McConnell, former bassist] last week. I think there might even be dates pencilled in.”

When asked if this was for shows or new material, he explained: “Well, definitely for shows. The thing about the ‘Shambles is we had so many songs that we never got round to recording. In fact there’s one, called ‘Ocean’, which is now called ‘Stad Ocean’, which is on the solo album.

“But yeah, it’s just been a question of who’s gonna do what because there was a few Babyshambles line-ups and they’re all brilliant. In an ideal world, we’d get Pat [Walde, guitarist] and Mick [Whitnall, guitarist] playing and then maybe get Gemma [Clarke] and Adam [Ficek ] to do some drums.

“Everyone seems to be a bit older and wiser – and cleaner, basically. Everyone’s off the gear, all the hard stuff, so I think we could do it. And I think there’d be a few quid in it as well, because everyone’s skint. I don’t know if Drew’s skint [since] he’s playing with Liam Gallagher, but he might be on session rates.”

The news comes amid a week of reunions – and rumours of reunions – that’s seen Oasis reform and the band announce details of a huge UK and Ireland headline tour .

Dubbed Oasis Live ’25, the tour is due to take place in July and August, and will see Liam and Noel Gallagher perform on stage together for the first time in 16 years.

Likewise, TV On The Radio seem to be teasing a return too , after sharing a cryptic teaser of a potential announcement this week.

Fans are speculating that the Brooklyn band could be making a highly-awaited comeback, after they wiped all the posts on their Instagram account, before re-sharing a singular image.

Linkin Park are also teasing something too. Earlier this week, the band hinted at some kind of activity by sharing a mysterious countdown on their social media accounts . Then, the countdown clock finally reached zero yesterday – only for it to begin counting up again .

Babyshambles is an English indie-rock band that originated in London in 2003. It was founded by Pete Doherty after The Libertines hiatus, and Babyshambles soon became his main project. During their career, they have released three positively received albums: Down in Albion (2005), Shotter's Nation (2007) and Sequel to the Prequel (2013), with the first two reaching the biggest success, including hits like F *ck Forever , Albion , Delivery or La Belle et la Bête , with Doherty's then-girlfriend Kate Moss on vocals. Although The Libertines got back together in 2014, Babyshambles still perform occasionally.

Points and payouts: Scottie Scheffler captures $25M, finishes No. 1 in FedExCup standings

Golfbet News

Change Text Size

Checkmate! Scottie Scheffler is the 18th FedExCup champion.

It’s one thing to have earned a two-stroke lead to begin the TOUR Championship, but all that matters is that it’s leveraged and not squandered. It’s a challenge that got the best of Scheffler as the top seed at East Lake Golf Club in both 2022 and 2023, but he delivered like a charm this time with a wire-to-wire victory and in the debut of the restoration of the course.

It’s Scheffler’s seventh PGA TOUR title of 2024 and his eighth win of the year when looping in the men’s Olympic golf competition. He was the favorite in all of them. Not only did he single-handedly shove aside the early-season narrative of longshots connecting for victories, but he also outpaced the market when considering the totality of his 19 starts.

Including his odds on BetMGM’s pre-tournament board to win the TOUR Championship of just +120, Scheffler’s kickbacks on $100 bets to win in each of the eight victories totaled $3,320. So, had you bet $100 on him to win in all 19 starts, with 11 results that were not wins, your net positive would be $2,220 today. Absurd.

Scottie Scheffler’s Round 4 winning highlights from TOUR Championship

All prize money awarded at the TOUR Championship is unofficial, but it deposits the same. Scheffler’s haul for winning the FedExCup is $25 million. For the record, he’s already maxed out on other perks concerning eligibility into The Sentry, THE PLAYERS Championship, the majors and his PGA TOUR membership (through 2029).

Finishing second isn’t the objective, but Morikawa, who started the TOUR Championship at 4-under and was +2800 to prevail, left Atlanta with $12.5 million and with the dubious label as low aggregate at East Lake. His 72-hole score of 22-under was one better than Sahith Theegala (+15000), who banked $7.5 million for solo third. Scheffler’s 20-under was third-lowest.

At 8-under before his first tee ball of the opening round, Xander Schauffele was nearest Scheffler on the leaderboard. Schauffele also was second-shortest at BetMGM at just +230, but he settled for a three-way T4.

On one hand, 2023 FedExCup champion Viktor Hovland (+6600) could have been just happy to be there after the extreme season he’s experienced, but he improved on his opening position of T16 (at 2-under) to finish in a two-way T12 at 15-under. Still, there still hasn’t been a golfer who’s won consecutive FedExCups.

Scheffler is next to try. Don’t bet against him. He’s proven time and again that he is, indeed, money.

Trashed. Greasy. Wasted. Chances are, if you go to a Babyshambles gig, you’ll bump into a few characters throughout the course of your night. Miniature Dohertys. If you read the tabloids, anyway. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the man in action five times, twice with his current band. And he’s turned up every time (albeit in varying states of intoxication)! The venues change, the songs update, and Pete’s weight fluctuates, but one thing remains the same. The sheer amount of lager that will end up thrown over your head by the end of the night. Because the tabloids always win. Somewhere along the way the vision of 'Albion' that is carried throughout the chaotic indie racket that Babyshambles create got involved with the lads. You know the ones...

Don’t let that spoil your fun, though. Make sure your clothes aren’t too nice and you didn’t spend too long doing your hair. They will both get ruined. From the first chords of the first ramshackle rock anthem, you will be buffeted, you will be drenched. But all with a sense of serendipity that flourishes in the face of hundreds of people revelling in the malfunctioning beauty of a modern British rock band. Because, despite the drugs, despite the trauma. The songwriting talent remains. The tender patriotic soul rendered acoustic in "Albion," the pints to the sky hedonism of "Fuck Forever," the punk rock fiasco of "Kilamangiro." They are a band with many strings to their bow. You hear about the substance abuse, but it’s unnoticeable. Immaculately misconstrued, they are confident enough to strip back the on stage pantomime and let the music talk for itself. Talk it does, too. From first to last, there’s never a moment when you won’t find yourself either being battered by a boozy friend, or embracing in a heartfelt singsong. It may be the drink, but the music is a potion all in itself. Also, you’ll never see a sight more entertaining than a group of guys desperately trying to mosh to an acoustic song.

Ticketmaster’s ‘dynamic pricing’ for Oasis tickets set to be investigated by U.K. government

Mura of Liam Gallagher, left, and Noel Gallagher

Ticketmaster  is set to face some tough questions in the U.K. after thousands of  Oasis  fans were left disappointed having failed to secure tickets through the site for the band’s long-awaited reunion tour.

U.K. culture minister Lisa Nandy has pledged to look into Ticketmaster’s use of “dynamic pricing,” which saw ticket prices shoot up by hundreds of pounds while fans were in queues online waiting to buy them.

Some fans reportedly abandoned their purchases having spent hours trying to get through after the prices went up by up to £200 while they were in line. Thousands more couldn’t get through to buy tickets at all, forcing them to resort to ticket-resale sites.

Nandy told the BBC she plans to end “rip-off resales” and make sure tickets are sold “at fair prices,” adding that it was “depressing to see vastly inflated prices excluding ordinary fans.”

The government are set to hold a consultation on ticket resale websites this autumn. Dynamic pricing will now be included in the scope of the consultation, Nandy confirmed, saying ministers would look at “issues around the transparency and use of dynamic pricing, including the technology around queuing systems which incentivise it.”

The BBC reported that one of Nandy’s colleague, Labour minister Lucy Powell, was among those left out of pocket after she ended up spending more than double the originally quoted cost of an Oasis ticket due to dynamic pricing.

It’s not the first time Ticketmaster has found itself in trouble with government officials following a ticket fiasco.

Last year  the U.S. Senate convened a hearing  on lack of competition in the concert ticket industry after demand for Taylor Swift tickets resulted in a major service failure.

“The high fees, site disruptions and cancellations that customers experienced shows how Ticketmaster’s dominant market position means the company does not face any pressure to continually innovate and improve,” Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said at the time. “That’s why we will hold a hearing on how consolidation in the live entertainment and ticketing industry harms customers and artists alike. When there is no competition to incentivize better services and fair prices, we all suffer the consequences.”

Jury trial date in multimillion-dollar lawsuit against PGA Tour golfer Tony Finau will be moved from October to 2025

Case was scheduled to be heard next month, but has been delayed due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ involving the judge.

By Jay Drew

One of the investors in PGA Tour golfer Tony Finau’s career when the Utah-born sports icon was a teenager will have to wait at least four more months, perhaps longer, to get his day in court after he filed a lawsuit in 2020 seeking more than $16 million in what he says are unpaid expenses, loans and percentages of winnings.

Last January, Judge James Brady of Utah’s 4th Judicial District Court scheduled an eight-day jury trial to begin on Oct. 2, 2024, in Provo to hear Salt Lake City businessman Molonai Hola’s case against Finau, 34, who was born and raised in Salt Lake City, but resided in the Utah County town of Lehi at the time of the original lawsuit filing in September 2020.

However, an email from Brady’s office informed attorneys representing the plaintiff, Hola, and the defendant, Finau, that “the court has received word recently that this case will need to be rescheduled due to unavoidable circumstances.”

One of Brady’s law clerks declined to give a more specific reason for the delay when contacted by the Deseret News on Friday, saying that once the new trial date is set, the reason will be listed on the courts calendar.

Hola’s Salt Lake City-based attorney, Joshua S. Ostler, said counsel on both sides know the reason “and understand it,” but are not at liberty to discuss it.

Judge Brady has announced he is retiring at the end of this calendar year after serving on the Fourth District Court bench since May 2010 when he was appointed by then Gov. Gary Herbert.

The judicial case manager informed both parties that the next available date for an eight-day jury trial at Provo District Court is May 28 to June 6, 2025. So the case will presumably have to be heard by a different judge.

Finau’s attorney, Stewart Peay, informed the court that he has a trial set in Idaho from May 27-30, 2025, so those dates will not work for him.

“It seems like that is not going to work for all the parties, or attorneys,” Ostler said. “We have been in contact with the clerk a little bit and they might work to see if we can get on some kind of expedited schedule. … There is a possibility we can get on the calendar the first thing next year, but I am not sure yet.”

A January trial could cause Finau to miss a PGA Tour event or two in Hawaii or California, but it comes before pro golf’s major tournaments begin in April with the Masters in Augusta, Georgia.

The trial’s continuance from next month to 2025 means that Finau will now be available to play in the PGA Tour’s new Black Desert Championship in St. George from Oct. 10-13, 2024.

Ostler said although the continuance puts Hola’s camp “in a little bit of limbo right now,” it is not necessarily a setback for the plaintiff.

“We want to get to trial. We want Mr. Hola to have his day in court, and have his claims heard. That is still going to happen. We were looking forward to the October trial. But if it has to be rescheduled, it has to be rescheduled,” Ostler said. “We will still be able to make our same case. I wouldn’t characterize it as a blow to our case or our side or anything like that.”

Here’s why plaintiff wants trial moved out of Utah County

After receiving notice of the continuance on Wednesday, and realizing that the continuance would likely require a new judge in the case, Hola’s counsel on Thursday filed a motion to change the venue from Provo to Salt Lake City, where the lawsuit was originally filed before Finau’s attorneys got it moved to Provo in January 2021.

Hola’s attorneys argue that the case should have remained in Salt Lake County because attorneys on both sides are in the state’s most populated county, as are most of the witnesses. Other participants will fly into Salt Lake City for the trial, they said in the motion, and will be inconvenienced if they have to make the longer drive to Provo.

Why does Tony Finau’s faith matter in this case?

Also, the plaintiffs argued in their motion that “a fair and impartial determination is more likely in Salt Lake County” due to Utah County having a higher concentration of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints than Salt Lake County.

“Tony Finau’s celebrity is well known throughout Utah, but especially in Utah County, where’s he’s resided for the past 15 years and where he resided when he first became famous,” the motion states.

“Also, it is well known that Tony Finau is a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” it continues.

Hola’s attorneys cited a 2021 Deseret News article stating that a survey showed 72% of Utah County residents identify as Latter-day Saints, compared to below 50% in Salt Lake County.

“Plaintiff acknowledges that the jury pool will consist of Tony Finau’s fans and admirers regardless of where the trial is held, but the impact on fairness and impartiality is undoubtedly smaller in Salt Lake County,” the motion states.

Finau’s attorneys have two weeks from last Thursday to respond to the change of venue motion. Ostler declined to elaborate on the prospects of getting the case moved back to Salt Lake County, or if the religion arguments are valid.

“I think the motion speaks for itself,” he said. “We’ve always maintained that the best place to have this trial is here in Salt Lake City.”

Inflated Oasis ticket prices 'depressing' - government promises review of dynamic pricing

"Time to look back in anger," one Oasis fan wrote on social media amid anger at how the highly anticipated reunion tour was ticketed.

Monday 2 September 2024 12:44, UK

The government has promised to look into dynamic ticket pricing, after the cost of tickets for the Oasis reunion tour more than doubled while on sale.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy described the selling of inflated Oasis tickets as "depressing" as she said surge pricing would be included in a government review of the secondary gig sales market.

On Saturday, fans of the world-famous band sat in virtual queues for hours hoping to get their hands on tickets to one of the reunion shows next year.

However, when they got through the two queues and lengthy waits, many were met with ticket prices far higher than face value.

A person in a queue to access the Ticketmaster website on their phone, with the StubHub website in the background, detailing information about Oasis concert tickets for sale, in London. Oasis fans across the UK and Ireland who missed out on pre-sale tickets will be attempting to secure their place at the band's reunion concerts during Saturday's general sale. Issue date: Saturday August 31, 2024.

Some expressed their anger on social media , as tickets worth £148 were being sold for £355 on Ticketmaster within hours of release, due to the dynamic pricing systems.

Speaking over the weekend, Ms Nandy announced that such issues, as well as the "technology around queuing systems which incentivise it", would be looked into in an upcoming government consultation.

She said: "After the incredible news of Oasis's return, it's depressing to see vastly inflated prices excluding ordinary fans from having a chance of enjoying their favourite band live.

"This government is committed to putting fans back at the heart of music.

"So we will include issues around the transparency and use of dynamic pricing, including the technology around queuing systems which incentivise it, in our forthcoming consultation on consumer protections for ticket resales.

"Working with artists, industry, and fans we can create a fairer system that ends the scourge of touts, rip-off resales, and ensures tickets at fair prices."

What is dynamic pricing?

The demand-based system was introduced by Ticketmaster in 2022.

It said it was brought in to stop touts and ensure more money goes to the artists.

Essentially, when there is a lot of demand for tickets, and limited supply, the price can go up.

Amid anger over Oasis's ticket prices, the company said they do not set prices and shared a link to a website that said costs could be "fixed or market-based".

On its own website, Ticketmaster describes its "Platinum" tickets as those that have their price adjusted according to supply and demand.

It says the goal of the dynamic pricing system is to "give fans fair and safe access to the tickets, while enabling artists and other people involved in staging live events to price tickets closer to their true market value".

The company claims it is artists, their teams, and promoters who set pricing and choose whether dynamic pricing is used for their shows.

Government minister Lucy Powell was among those hit by dynamic pricing on Saturday, and eventually forked out more than double the original quoted cost of a ticket for an Oasis show.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) backed news of the government's review.

A spokesperson said: "We want fans to get a fair deal when they go to buy tickets on the secondary market and have already taken action against major resale websites to ensure consumer law is being followed properly.

"But we think more protections are needed for consumers here, so it is positive that the government wants to address this. We now look forward to working with them to get the best outcomes for fans and fair-playing businesses."

It comes after Noel and Liam Gallagher confirmed the band's long-awaited reunion on Tuesday last week.

Dynamic pricing is common within industries beyond music, with it being used frequently in the travel industry, with hotel rooms and airline tickets.

Frequent Taylor Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff previously said that dynamic pricing is an issue .

He told Stereogum that he wanted artists to be able to opt out of the system and be able to sell them at the price they chose.

Ticketmaster has been approached for comment.
