Road Conditions and Weather on I-75

Interstate I-75 is a major north-south interstate highway in the United States, stretching from Miami, Florida, in the south to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, in the north. The highway traverses 6 states: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan.

I-75 is a major route for transportation of goods and services, and it carries the majority of traffic between the Midwest and Florida. The highway has a total length of 1,786 miles. This makes it the second-longest north-south interstate highway in the United States.

I-75 is a major highway that stretches from Michigan to Florida. The road conditions and weather conditions on I-75 can vary depending on the time of year and location. In the winter, I-75 can be icy and snow-covered, causing hazardous driving conditions. During the summer, the highway can experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, and extreme heat. This can make driving uncomfortable and dangerous. In spring and fall, the weather on I-75 is usually milder and the roads are usually dry.

The road conditions on I-75 vary greatly depending on the location. In Michigan, the roads are often in good condition and well-maintained. In Tennessee, I-75 is often congested due to heavy traffic. In the summer, Interstate I-75 travelers can expect temperatures to range from the upper 80s to the low 100s. When traveling in the summer, it is important to bring plenty of water and sunscreen to stay hydrated and protect against the intense sun. Thunderstorms are also common during the summer months. They can cause flooding and other dangerous driving conditions.

In the winter, temperatures on I-75 drop to the low to mid-30s. Snowfall and icy conditions are common. Take extra care when driving in icy conditions.

Weather on I-75 in Georgia

The weather in Georgia on Interstate I-75 can vary greatly depending on the season. During the summer months, temperatures can range from the mid-70s to the mid-90s with high humidity. This can make the drive uncomfortable, especially in the afternoon. Storms are frequent during the summer; be prepared for sudden downpours and high winds.

In the winter months, temperatures can drop to the mid-20s. This can make driving conditions treacherous, as snow and ice can accumulate, making roads slick and dangerous. Be aware of the potential for icy patches, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Weather on I-75 in Florida

Interstate I-75 in Florida runs from Miami to the Georgia-Florida border. The weather in Florida along I-75 varies greatly due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and numerous lakes. I-75 in Florida experiences mild weather year-round.

In the summer months, I-75 in Florida experiences hot temperatures and high humidity levels. The average summer temperature is around 80 to 90 degrees and the humidity can be oppressive. During the summer months, it is not uncommon for thunderstorms to roll in, with rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

In the winter months, I-75 in Florida experiences mild temperatures and lower humidity levels. The average winter temperature is around 60 to 70 degrees. While there is typically no snow, rain and fog are common during the winter months.

Updated summer forecast out: A real Michigan summer may be on the way

We just received an updated forecast for June, July and August. Sometimes Michiganders complain that we are ripped off on summer weather. It doesn’t look like this summer will be a rip off.

The long-range forecasts from NOAA come out of the Climate Prediction Center(CPC). Don’t worry if you don’t believe years-long climate predictions. That’s a stretch even for most of us meteorologists. But this office also does a great job at the shorter-term forecast of the next season-summer.

There are several reasons CPC has cited as to why they came up with the current summer forecast. Remember meteorological summer is June 1 to August 31.

Here is the temperature forecast for June, July and August. While the forecast doesn’t portray an extremely hot summer, it also has no area of the U.S. that should expect a colder than normal summer.

Lower Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula has a 50 percent chance of a warmer than normal summer. We also have a 33 percent chance of normal summer temperatures and a 17 percent chance of a colder than normal summer. The odds are definitely stacked toward having a warm Michigan summer. The western Upper Peninsula has a lesser chance of a warm summer, coming in at a 40 percent chance of warmer than normal conditions.

The NOAA forecasters tell us they used a few dynamical weather models to produce this forecast. They are also using the current soil moisture as a factor. The forecasters say wet soil modifies hot summer weather and dry soil can boost the heat in summer. Currently most of Michigan has drier than normal soil. The El Niño ending and a possible La Niña forming was another factor for the summer forecast. Of course they also had to factor in the warming global temperatures and and warming oceans.

NOAA admits summer precipitation forecasting is tougher than temperature forecasting. Look at the forecast below. NOAA sees a plume of moisture rolling up the East Coast this summer. They also see a large dry area for the mountain states. Here is Michigan the NOAA forecasters can’t make a call on dry or wet. They give us equal chances of wetter than normal, normal rainfall or drier than normal. Normal amounts of precipitation during a Michigan summer is a very good thing.

The magnitude of summer dryness is often just a timing situation. If the dryness comes in late July or August it hurts our Michigan crops and our home gardens.

There is one weather situation to keep an eye on. The current El Niño is cooling and coming to an end. There is a 65 percent chance a La Niña (opposite of El Niño) will develop. There have been a few memorable Michigan and Midwest summers in years when El Niño switched to La Niña in summer. The summers of 1988 and 1995 were two such summers and were very hot and very dry summers in the Midwest and Michigan.

For now I think we better plan on a good ole warm Michigan summer. Line up your summer water fun. You will probably want to be in water often.

What sort of May weather should we expect around Michigan this year?

The National Weather Service and NOAA released their monthly weather outlook for May last week. The predictions are based on probability vs. normal averages, and can help show possible trends in the longer range forecast.

Here’s what the outlook released on April 18, 2024 says about Michigan. The outlook is valid for the entire month of May.

• The average high temp in Detroit on May is 69 degrees.

Michigan precipitation outlook for May 2024

• Detroit averages about 3.7 inches of rain in May, amounting to about 8 rainy days.

Northern Michigan in the meaningful severe weather forecast for weekend

A cold front banging into very warm air could produce a few severe thunderstorms this weekend in Michigan. Right now the most likely area for severe thunderstorms would be northern Michigan.

Saturday will warm into the 70s across all of Lower Michigan, and the humidity will increase. The fuel for a fire of thunderstorms will be present. A cold front will move south across the Upper Peninsula into northern Lower Michigan late Saturday afternoon or evening. As the cold front and cooler air undercuts the warm moist air, thunderstorms will develop across the eastern U.P. and drop south into northern Lower Michigan.

Here’s the radar forecast showing the eastern U.P. and far northern Lower Michigan in late Saturday thunderstorms.

Here are the outlined areas for various forms of severe weather. I would call this a potentially scattered area of severe thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) does have the lowest tornado risk they forecast, two percent, over part of northern Lower Michigan.

The overall risk of any form of severe weather shows you where the strongest thunderstorms are likely. Muskegon, Mount Pleasant, Traverse City to Mackinaw City are in the meaningful risk of severe thunderstorms.

The individual types of severe weather also follow that same shaded area of about the northern half of Lower Michigan. Spotty high wind gusts, isolated large hail and even an isolated tornado is possible Saturday.

The most likely time period for these severe thunderstorms is 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

One note from me: I think we need to watch Sunday for another round of severe thunderstorms. There will be a strong and fairly active warm front moving north through Lower Michigan Sunday. Warm fronts can have some very potent thunderstorms develop along them, especially in the heat of the afternoon and evening. A few of our best severe weather models indicate an east-west line of thunderstorms moving northward across Lower Michigan Sunday afternoon and evening. The Storm Prediction Center does not have us in a severe risk late Sunday, but they aren’t perfect. I’ve seen big adjustments to their severe weather area forecasts when the weather in question is two days out.

Severe weather potential in West Michigan later tonight

WEST MICHIGAN — Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast in West Michigan over the next few days. Rounds of rain and thunderstorms will persist through the weekend. As of now, the severe weather potential is focused on Saturday night and early Sunday morning. You'll want to stay alert and weather aware.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed West Michigan under a severe weather outlook on Saturday. Southeast of Grand Rapids falls under a MARGINAL RISK , which is the lowest level severe storm risk category, represented by the color green.

The region including Allegan, Grand Rapids, Ionia and communities northwest fall under SLIGHT RISK, which is a greater risk for severe thunderstorms. For a detailed description of each severe weather risk category, click here .

As a reminder, while we may have some pop-up showers during the day, our severe storm concern is for thunderstorms after 8 p.m. Saturday, lasting into the early morning hours of Sunday.

When will thunderstorms develop?

Skies will dry for the middle of the day on Saturday. This will allow for heat and humidity to build, providing fuel for thunderstorms in the late evening. The more sunshine we see in the middle of the day on Saturday, the more instability that could form. Thunderstorms love heat and humidity!

High temperatures on Saturday will be climbing to nearly 80 degrees, along with plenty of sunshine!

A few pop-up thunderstorms will be possible after 5 p.m. Saturday, however the strongest thunderstorms are likely to be after 8 p.m. Saturday.

The strongest thunderstorms will be after sunset Saturday, while the greatest severe weather potential will be to the northwest of Grand Rapids These storms will develop in Northern Michigan initially, eventually approaching West Michigan from the northwest.

Be sure to have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts on Saturday night. Even though this isn't the highest severe weather threat we've seen this season, this is the start of a very stormy week, and more rounds of severe weather are likely in the next 7 days. The line of thunderstorms will push south and east into Sunday morning.

What are the main threats?

As of now, the main threats for severe weather will be hail over one inch in diameter and damaging wind gusts. Heavy downpours and frequent lightning will also be possible. An isolated tornado is possible, however unlikely.

Expect warmer-than-normal May-July in metro Detroit, National Weather Service predicts

Cruel summer?

Well, it’ll be a hotter than normal one anyway and not because of a "bad boy."

The longer-term seasonal outlook — May, June, July — for Michigan shows a 50%-60% chance that temperatures will be higher than average, with equal chances of above or below normal rainfall, about 3½ inches each month.

Of course, the National Weather Service has a difficult enough time predicting weather a few days out.

So it’s hard to say how reliable a forecast a few months out is.

In the near term, however, those preparing for NFL draft events, should know the weather service is predicting a light rain and drizzle Wednesday morning in metro Detroit , with a freeze warning overnight. Lows are forecasted to be in the mid-20s.

That’s followed by a warming trend, with the temperature rising a few degrees each day.

As for rain, it should dry out Thursday, with a slight chance of precipitation again Friday night.

There could be some showers Saturday, but it also might turn out just to be a cloudy, windy day.

Sunday, there’s a chance of rain, but it likely will remain north of Detroit.
