What is the slogan of India tourist?

geographic-faq

As a Cruise Director, one of my main responsibilities is to provide information and assistance to passengers regarding their travel destinations. India is a country that is frequently visited by cruise passengers, and one of the questions I often encounter is, “What is the slogan of India tourism?”

The slogan of India tourism is “Incredible India.” This catchy and impactful slogan was launched by the government of India in 2002 as part of an international tourism campaign. It aims to promote tourism in India by highlighting the incredible attractions and experiences that the country has to offer.

The slogan “Incredible India” is stylized with an exclamation mark forming the ‘I’ of India, making it visually appealing and memorable. It encapsulates the diverse cultures, enchanting landscapes, rich heritage, and captivating experiences that India has in store for tourists.

Tourism slogans play a crucial role in marketing destinations and attracting visitors. They help establish a brand identity and differentiate a location from its competitors. A well-crafted slogan can evoke curiosity, interest, and excitement among potential travelers, encouraging them to explore and experience what a destination has to offer.

India is known for its natural wonders, architectural marvels, national parks, theme parks, and vibrant cultural heritage. Its diverse landscapes, ranging from the majestic Himalayas to the serene backwaters of Kerala, offer a feast for the senses. The country’s bustling cities, such as Mumbai and Delhi, present a juxtaposition of ancient traditions and modern development.

One of the main reasons why India is a popular tourist attraction is its rich history and cultural heritage. As one of the world’s oldest civilizations, India boasts a treasure trove of historical sites, including iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, and Jaipur’s palaces. These attractions provide a glimpse into the country’s fascinating past and architectural grandeur.

In addition to its historical and cultural attractions, India offers a wide range of experiences for tourists. From wildlife safaris in national parks like Ranthambore and Jim Corbett to spiritual journeys in cities like Varanasi and Amritsar, there is something for everyone in this diverse country. The delectable cuisine, colorful festivals, and warm hospitality of the locals further enhance the overall travel experience in India.

India’s tourism slogan, “Incredible India,” represents the country’s uniqueness and its ability to leave a lasting impression on visitors. Its diverse landscapes, vibrant cultures, and rich history make it a must-visit destination for travelers from around the world.

1. Is India a tourist-friendly country? While India is generally considered a safe destination, it is advisable for tourists to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings. 3. Can tourists wear shorts in India? In tourist areas, beach destinations, and some urban areas, it is generally acceptable to wear shorts in India, especially during the warmer months. However, it is important to be mindful of local customs and cultural sensitivities, particularly in more conservative or rural areas, where it may be more appropriate to dress modestly.

4. Which country’s tourists visit India the most? In recent years, American tourists have been the highest in number to visit India, followed by tourists from Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

5. What is the motto of India? India does not have a specific motto, as it is not an acronym. The name “India” is a historical and geographical name that has evolved over centuries.

Incredibly flexible and safe India: The new slogan for Indian tourism

Can buying a holiday to India be that simple, safe and flexible? What do I need today to decide to travel? Especially during these times of uncertainty. The two main factors are – I am safe, and my money is safe.

To bring back tourists in 2021, the new slogan for Indian Tourism Ministry should be ‘Incredibly flexible and safe India!’ . This insight came to me while I was paying for 3 winter cycling jerseys from my Amazon Prime account. I will be keeping only one but the process of buying them and returning is so simple that I don’t mind taking a bit of risk and ordering different colours and sizes and return the ones I don’t like. All I need to do is to pack them back, generate a QR code on the mobile app, and take it to the nearest parcel shop. There are no questions asked, well they do ask while you generate the QR code, but you can answer like- ordered the wrong size and it is acceptable for full refund.

I thought – can buying a holiday to India be that simple, safe and flexible? What do I need today to decide to travel? Especially during these times of uncertainty. The two main factors are – I am safe, and my money is safe. The safety of the destinations is defined by the safe hotels, cars, trains and service providers. Most of the hotels and service providers have developed Covid protocols on paper. The challenge would be to make these work when they have a full house. While the big chains will have internal systems to implement, the small hotels, homestays and resorts are the ones who will need training and support to implement the Covid- protocols to make them safe.

Also, the process of vaccination which will very soon start will give confidence to the travellers about their safety. Now the safety of the money or the advances paid. This can be assured by the travel industry by making their products fully flexible and refundable. It is easy as it sounds. At present the cut off for a full refund at the hotels is usually 30 days before arrival, this should be reduced to 7 days. After all the hotels do provide fully refundability to the online portals upto 48 hours, so why not to the intermediaries like the DMCs?

Similarly, the low-cost airlines can offer fully refundable fares apart from the low-cost non-refundable fares. The travellers would not mind paying a bit extra for peace of mind.

Now here is what the government needs to do. The safari charges paid to the forest department are fully non-refundable. This is upto the Ministry of Tourism to put pressure on them to be flexible if they want to go back to pre-Covid levels of earnings. After all the funds they get from the safaris are substantial and cannot be ignored.

Luxury trains in India are a big draw for the tourists to India. They are an amazing product but very expensive and risky as any money paid is fully non-refundable. The process of seeking a refund from IRCTC who now run the Maharajah’s Express and the Golden Chariot and RTDC who run the Palace on wheels is quite cumbersome and impossible at times. They have their reasons for making it non-refundable as they have a small inventory to sell and some intermediary companies are likely to take advantage of the full refundability by blocking the cabins. While the advances for booking the cabins on board the luxury trains are acceptable, the same advances should be made flexible to be used on a different date and / or for a different client if cancelled at the last minute.

Similarly, the entrances to the monuments by ASI and the local bodies should be fully refundable if paid for in advance.

Many of the hotels have already been offering fully refundable rooms but only till March 2021 as they are all hoping that things will soon come back to normal. Yes, there is a huge pent-up demand for travel but where the clients travel, that will be governed by their physical safety and equally importantly, safety of their money.

100+ Fun Facts About Canada for Travelers

Paul Heller has been a lifelong avid traveler and language learner and teacher, Even as a child, he told Santa Claus that he wanted to visit all the children worldwide. At seven years old, Paul wanted to retire to Mexico. At eight, he memorized the name, capital, location, and some facts about every country worldwide. At twelve, he found a book "Lonely Planet: Southeast Asia on a Shoestring" and started developing his own itinerary for a future round-the-world trip. He remained obsessed with travel; after getting a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and working as an administrator, He spent his vacations going to different countries around the globe studying language, touring, and volunteering. In 1994, he quit his job and lived in Russia as a volunteer English instructor. He discovered that he loved teaching languages. In 2004, he decided to make a living out of his travels and founded a community of people who love to travel just like him. He developed 5 three-hour classes about living and traveling long-term worldwide which he taught in over 50 adult education programs throughout the US. After his parents passed, he realized his dream of traveling around the world; cruising and touring some of the most remote places like the North Atlantic, Patagonia, and Oceania; and learning new languages (he knows Spanish, Italian, French, and Russian). Paul encourages everyone to learn foreign languages. He knows that it can be frustrating and slow but that anyone can learn a language if they put in the work and, most importantly, learning a language is well worth the time and effort because it opens up a whole new set of people, ideas, and cultures. He is currently spending the next chapter of his life in Mérida, México. He is excited about using this blog and his classes and workshops to inspire and equip fellow Fifty Plus Nomads with the language, cultural, and psychological skills necessary to be successful and happy long-term travelers and expats over 50.

Hi Charu, Rajasthan is truly more than desert. I had visited Jodhpur before the lockdown happened this year. My plan was to stay for two days over the weekend and I met like-minded people there and we explored the Jodhpur streets together. Towards the end, I have to cancel the return tickets because I felt I haven’t seen Jodhpur yet and the people accompanying were awesome that every day we used to visit somewhere in the morning and then go watch the sunset. 2 days trip become a week trip.

And, I loved the Goa quote as well, I can’t wait to Goa there.

Also, I had subscribed to your blog. But, I didn’t receive new posts, is everything fine with newsletters? or Did you stopped sending them?

I liked the thoughts in the post!

Hello Vansh, I am so happy to read that you loved visiting Jodhpur earlier this year and had a wonderful time. Your experience of meeting like-minded people and turning a 2 day trip to a week long one is exactly what I love the most about travelling. I hope you get to return one day and explore more of this gem of a state. And, Goa too!

Also, thanks so much for subscribing to my blog. My newsletter will be back on later this week and you shall receive it without an issue 🙂

Okay, Glad to hear that!

Unique city image, branding, and slogans can boost Indian local tourism industry

Establishing city branding with unique features, targeting major tourist sources for accurate promotion, and adopting comprehensive and intensive promotion are the keys to the growth of tourism as a livelihood

Unique city image, branding, and slogans can boost Indian local tourism industry

The recent budget by the Government of India emphasises developing a complete package for a tourist destination, and at least 50 such tourist destinations are proposed to be developed through an innovative and integrated approach immediately. This seems to be a great step in the right direction.

In this endeavour, our key focus should be to develop the respective Indian tourist centre into an up-market tourist destination and to attract tourists to stay longer and spend more, making use of tourism for social-economic development in a sustainable manner. Further, focus may also be on increasing tourism income of that particular region as well as bringing more development opportunities by incorporating the best practices across the World. Thus, the key objective is to devise a package for sustainable Tourism development in the short run with action plans and timelines.

As evidenced from various studies, the root causes of sustainable Tourism constraints generally identified in Indian tourist centres could be summarised basically under three broad areas; (a) lack of Tourism branding and marketing (b) limited infrastructure capacity, (c) lack of qualified human resources. The other issues such as inadequate public financial resources for upgrading tourism facilities, hygiene issues, weak coordination between public and private sectors, and among different departments within the public sector are either structural issues or are subsidiary to the three basic issues highlighted above.

Though India has a broad national tourism image, Indian local tourism at present lacks a “unique city image”, “branding” and “slogan”. This ultimately leads to lack of proper knowledge about the tourist destination resulting in slow growth of tourists. This necessitates implementation of “finding target cities” for propagation and promotion activities. The other inevitable component is for infrastructure investment especially in “road” and “airport” and on developing Indian tourist centres as a new transit city like Singapore where more emphasis is given on improving ‘Mobility’ and ‘Accessibility’. Thankfully, the infrastructure development is very much happening in India, however, the tourist centres may need more emphasis. Tourism Human Resource Development and Management components need to focus on improving the quality of teachers in tourism higher education, developing the curriculum based on regional common standards as well as integrated with Indian standards, strengthening the relationship between higher education system and tourism industry etc.

As three key problems are identified as above with policy alternatives, we need to choose one alternative from a set of alternatives mentioned above with more focus on a key tourism issue. The objective to be focussed is on more net benefits and more output with a given level of input with effective cost assessment. In this scenario, from the three policy alternatives, we need to select the alternative which brings the most benefit to the tourism industry with a given level of amount invested.

From implementation point of view to get quick results, the policy alternative “Tourism Promotion” is more efficient, with less cost, high effectiveness and high administrative operability whereas the other alternatives such as “Infrastructure investment” and “Tourism Human Resource Development and Management” are either ranking comparatively inferior in all or either of the criterion. The infrastructure investment involves activities to be undertaken in the long run with long run results with high investment. Similarly, focusing uniquely on tourism human resource development and management may not provide best results in the short run.

Through implementation of the best policy alternative ‘tourism promotion’, respective state /city tourism departments could attract more tourists thereby solving the key as well as subsidiary tourism issues, which hamper the sustainable development of tourism in the region. With successful tourism promotion, the number of international tourists as also the tourism income of the region will increase. This tourism revenue generated by the local administrative state/city units could be productively used for infrastructure investment in the region, especially the development of transit cities, as also upgrading the basic road and airport infrastructure.

Further, when there is a sustainable increase of tourists in the region, it generates demand for tourism related courses, resulting in an increase in the number of practitioners in tourism-related industries. Considering the profitability of the tourism related industries, it will attract more practitioners to join the tourism industry. The practitioners will have strong motivation to learn foreign languages and update their services to earn more profits, thus the hygiene and language problems will get indirectly solved. Thus, by sustained increase in the number of tourists, the overall quality of the tourism industry could be improved. The improvement of the quality of tourism shall further promote the growth of the sector, attract more tourists, increase the length of tourists stay, as also the money spent by Tourists, thus forming a vicious circle. Thus, “Tourism promotion activities” could help solve to a great extent the problems we have identified in Indian local Tourism, in the short run.

Thus, the proposed 50 centres to be identified as announced in the Budget may need to integrate online and offline promotions and fully utilise an integrated strategy of going out and bringing in simultaneously, tailoring promotion schemes and apply different intermediaries for different targeted groups for comprehensive and intensive Promotion. What is the unique scenery in a particular tourist region, or what can tourists only experience in that region, is the most important selling point that the tourism department of these centres needs to look for. Lastly, establishing city branding with unique features, targeting major tourist sources for accurate promotion, and adopting comprehensive and intensive promotion are the keys to the growth of tourism as a livelihood.

This country banned TikTok. What became of its influencers?

Is there life after TikTok ?

The question is front of mind for U.S. influencers and many small businesses as lawmakers threaten to ban the Chinese-owned social media app that’s become a cornerstone of internet culture and e-commerce.

For an answer, they might turn to India, which has been surviving without TikTok since June 2020.

That month, after 20 of its soldiers were killed in a border clash with China, the Indian government gave TikTok users a day to post tearful goodbyes and steer followers to other social media accounts. Then the app went dark.

People light candles near a poster that calls for a ban on China products and investment

“When it got banned, I had nothing,” recalled Gaurav Jain, who was one of the country’s more than 200 million TikTok users.

He was 25 and had just notched his millionth follower making self-help videos about mental health, men’s style and relationships.

Four years later, Jain runs his own social media marketing agency in Delhi, managing Indian content creators who pivoted to other platforms or joined the influencer world more recently. He had tried to make the transition himself but found starting from scratch demoralizing.

“The counter became zero for everyone,” he said. “That gave rise to a lot of new creators.”

The results for former TikTok stars have been mixed.

Gautan Madhavan, founder of Mad Influence, a marketing agency that managed more than 300 content creators before the TikTok ban, said that about a third of them were able to recapture their reach on Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts within three months and that many are still playing catch-up.

L.A. influencers, businesses live or die on TikTok’s algorithm. Now they fear for the future

After President Biden signed a bill that could ban TikTok in the U.S., experts say the economic ramifications could be significant.

May 7, 2024

Those short-video platforms launched shortly after the TikTok ban. Users who found success got in early and posted as often as 10 times a day, according to Saptarshi Ray, a consultant for influencers trying to grow their followings.

“Most of them were just trying everything,” Ray said. “Those were the creators that really flourished.”

People holding musical instruments and images of a man raise hands in front of a large poster about banned Chinese apps

India was TikTok’s fastest growing user base before the ban, which cut off a vital source of income for creators there.

The stakes are even higher in the United States, where the app has more than 170 million users, including 7 million businesses that TikTok says generated $14.7 billion in revenue last year from marketing on the platform. The Pew Research Center found that a third of Americans used TikTok last year, up from a fifth in 2021.

In April, President Biden signed a bill to ban the app by January 2025, unless Chinese parent company ByteDance Ltd. agrees to sells the app to somebody from a country that is not considered a foreign adversary.

The threat comes as suspicion between the U.S. and China has escalated , reviving concerns that TikTok could share sensitive data with the Chinese government.

The proposed ban still faces high hurdles. Both TikTok and a group of U.S. content creators separately filed lawsuits, arguing that blocking the app would be an unconstitutional assault on free speech. The Trump administration had also tried to ban TikTok but gave up after being challenged by federal courts.

From ‘latte makeup’ to ‘girl dinners,’ TikTok has launched tons of trends. Will its influence last?

In less than six years, TikTok has become deeply woven into the fabric of American consumerism. Now its future is uncertain, but its influence is undisputed.

July 4, 2024

TikTok has sought to assure the U.S. government that user data is protected on U.S. servers. And though its parent company is based in Beijing, TikTok moved operations to Singapore under a Singaporean chief executive.

The U.S. — along with Britain and Australia — has already prohibited the use of TikTok on government devices. But digital marketing experts said many U.S. users are still not seriously considering the possibility of a ban.

Activists of Jammu and Kashmir Dogra Front shout slogans against Chinese President Xi Jinping during a protest in Jammu, India, Wednesday, July.1, 2020. Indian TikTok users awoke Tuesday to a notice from the popular short-video app saying their data would be transferred to an Irish subsidiary, a response to India's ban on dozens of Chinese apps amid a military standoff between the two countries. The quick workaround showed the ban was largely symbolic since the apps can’t be automatically erased from devices where they are already downloaded, and is a response to a border clash with China where 20 Indian soldiers died earlier this month, digital experts said. TikTok made stars out of these villagers in India. Then it was banned

The Chinese video-sharing app is booted from its biggest foreign market as India retaliates for a deadly border clash.

July 2, 2020

“I don’t think the average TikTok user has synthesized in their brain that this is going away,” said Lawrence Vincent, associate professor of the practice of marketing at USC’s Marshall School of Business. “They’ve heard about it, but it isn’t real until it’s real.”

There has been little anticipatory migration to other platforms. But former TikTokers in India advised their American counterparts to prepare for the worst.

Ashi Khanna is a social media influencer in India.

“We used to hear rumors about this happening, but we never really believed it,” said Ashi Khanna, a 26-year-old influencer from Delhi.

She launched her TikTok career by posting lip-synching videos in 2017 — when the app was known as Music.ly — and eventually built a following of 1.7 million. She managed to post a farewell directing them to Instagram and YouTube, where she already had smaller followings. But fewer than 20,000 did so.

Since then, Khanna has concentrated on Instagram and managed to match her old following.

Questions swirl over the future of TikTok. Who could own it? How will the platform operate?

Congress passed a bill that could ban TikTok. What could happen next, and who might buy the social media platform?

April 24, 2024

In contrast to TikTok, which never placed a premium on production quality, Instragram required a more polished aesthetic that could mean spending hours on a single reel.

“There’s a huge difference,” Khanna said. “You need to understand what your audience likes, and your audience is not the same on every platform.”

Ankita Chhetri, 22 , who lives in Mumbai, said experimentation was the key to life beyond TikTok.

She became TikTok famous in 2019 after posting a video of herself lip-synching to a popular Bollywood song. With 8.2 million followers, she earned promotional deals with music labels and scrapped her plans to be a nurse in hopes of making it as an influencer and actor.

Ankita Chhetri is a social media influencer in India.

After the ban, she started a YouTube channel and branched out from lip-synching into carefully planned reels of beauty, travel, fashion and inspirational quotes. As she gradually increased her following to 1.6 million, she used her improved engagement statistics to pitch brands on potential partnerships.

Still, Chhetri said there are times she misses the old days.

“TikTok just had some crazy amount of loyalty among audiences,” she said. “On Instagram, even if people are watching and liking your content, they’re still hesitant to press that follow button.”

Indian entrepreneurs created their own versions of TikTok, but failed to get much of an audience.

“It still felt like I was invisible, nobody was really there,” said Shreyas Mendiratta, a 23-year-old hospital worker who posted his comedy videos on Indian startup apps for a few months before giving up. “On TikTok, I felt seen, I felt heard.”

His videos don’t do as well on Instagram and YouTube either, which he suggested lack TikTok’s broad international appeal.

“It reduces the chances of them going global,” he said. “This is what I face on Instagram daily. I am very restricted to the region that I am geographically located in.”

Geet Jain, an inspirational speaker and English teacher, was visiting the U.S. when India banned TikTok. She could still use the app, but none of her 7 million followers in India could see her posts offering relationship advice, comedy bits and English lessons.

“It was like this whirlwind of confusion of what do I do next,” said Jain, who declined to provide her age.

She turned to Instagram, growing 68,000 followers into 1.3 million. But she never achieved the same kind of exponential growth . Some of her TikTok fans had a difficult time finding her.

Back in the U.S. this year for an extended stay with her sister in Seattle, she has started posting on TikTok once more.

But she no longer knows what viewers want. Clips have gotten longer, with more casually narrated stories and less dancing and lip-synching than she remembers. There is more competition when it comes to her style of educational content.

While some of her English-language videos have gotten traction, she’s reluctant to invest too heavily in TikTok again.

“If it gets banned in America, it will be even more devastating for me,” she said. “Then my accounts are actually gone.”

This City Was Voted Best in the U.S. for the 12th Straight Year by T+L Readers, Who Say It ‘Can Compete With Any European Capital’

See the No. 1 pick and 14 more top cities in the United States, according to our annual "World’s Best Awards" survey for 2024.

How Voting Works

What readers loved.

  • The Full List

Wherever Travel + Leisure readers go in the United States, they look for cities with palpable history, walkable downtowns, regional cuisine, and robust cultural and artistic institutions. Many states in the South and West were highly represented this year, but readers did recognize a few classic Northeast destinations this year. One characteristic that seemed to capture readers’ hearts, no matter the destination? A strong identity, and a sense that the city was unlike others elsewhere in the country.

Taylor McIntyre/Travel + Leisure

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Over 186,000 T+L readers completed the 2024 survey. A total of more than 700,000 votes were cast across over 8,700 properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).

Cities were specifically rated on the criteria below:

  • Sights/landmarks
  • Friendliness

For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.

Readers rewarded past favorites like Chicago (No. 9), Honolulu (No. 4), and New Orleans (No. 9), all of which returned to the list, and once again showed their love for Charleston, which ranked No. 1 for the 12th year in a row. But for the first time, Annapolis (No. 12) and Aspen (No. 10) appeared in the rankings, indicating that readers are increasingly drawn to new regional culture and outdoor hubs. New Mexico and Texas also had a strong showing this year — each state claimed two spots on the list, for Sante Fe and Taos, and Fort Worth and San Antonio, respectively.

The Full List

1. Charleston, South Carolina

The Holy City earned the top spot yet again, thanks to its combination of historic architecture, walkability, and Southern hospitality — and, as many readers noted, its unbeatable culinary scene. “Charleston can compete with any European capital for its arts, entertainment, active lifestyle, and food,” said one voter. Many visitors noted that they had come to the city several times for different types of trips, such as couples’ weekends, family vacations, or friends’ getaways, and that they found new things to experience each time. Another reader chimed in that Charleston was, “a great example of a city that holds to their roots, but also strives to be current and welcoming to everyone.”

2. Santa Fe, New Mexico

Sean Pavone/Getty Images

This artsy Southwestern destination has ranked high on our list for nearly 20 years, and it’s not just because of the 320 days of sunshine it receives each year, though it certainly doesn’t hurt. “Santa Fe is like its own country within a country,” gushed one reader. “It’s such a unique blend of culture and history that you don’t see in the rest of the USA.” Another visitor called its downtown, with Pueblo-style buildings and independent galleries, “a photographer's dream and a shopper's delight.”

WBA Hall of Fame honoree. Reader Score: 87.43

3. Savannah, Georgia

Heather Durham/Travel + Leisure

Readers adore Savannah for its leafy parks, great shopping, carriage rides, and cemetery tours. “This is one of my family's favorite cities,”said one reader, adding “We try to get to Savannah and Tybee Island each year.” The Starland District, in particular, is thriving these days, with the debut of Hotel Bardo and must-visit restaurants like Brochu’s Family Tradition.

WBA Hall of Fame honoree. Reader Score: 85.27

4. Honolulu, Hawaii

okimo/Getty Images

This island capital earned top marks for the natural beauty of its beaches, volcanoes, and hiking trails. But travelers also praised its shopping and Native Hawaiian traditions. “Aloha spirit abounds!” explained one visitor. “You can relax, go to a luau, go for a hike, go shopping, dive with turtles and dolphins. There is something for everyone.” Another traveler appreciated their interactions with locals, saying, “The people are the friendliest I have found on any of my travels, and the culture is mesmerizing.”

Reader Score: 85.17

5. New Orleans, Louisiana

Tessa Desjardins/Travel + Leisure

“It is ALL about food and drink in NOLA,” declared one reader. It’s a sentiment that’s widely shared — visitors most often praise the city’s eclectic mix of cuisines (like Creole, Vietnamese, Filipino, and barbeque) and its legendary bars and restaurants. Many travelers also appreciated the city’s laid-back vibe (it is the Big Easy, after all.) “New Orleans is a great walking around, let's-pop-into-this-place-kind-of-city,” according to one visitor. Others noted its superb history tours, festivals, and markets.

WBA Hall of Fame honoree. Reader score: 84.53

6. San Antonio, Texas

Historic sites like the Alamo and the Mission are two notable entry points into this south Texas city. But contemporary attractions also abound — Museum Reach, a three-mile pedestrian park along the San Antonio River, has many public art installations. Readers also love strolling along the River Walk, which one reader said was “probably one of the nicest places we have ever visited in the States. It was exceptionally maintained and absolutely beautiful.”

Reader Score: 83.20

7. Fort Worth, Texas

benedek/Getty Images

“Cosmopolitan meets ranch” is how one reader described this thriving metropolis, whose slogan is “Where the West Begins.” Though Fort Worth retains its cowboy image with one of the country’s best rodeos and a daily cattle drive through the streets of the stockyard district, it’s not all ten-gallon hats — the cultural institutions, such as The Kimbell Art Museum, are world-class. “There are almost 20 theaters. You can attend the ballet, the opera, and symphony orchestra concerts,” noted one visitor.

Reader Score: 83.19

8. New York, New York

Alessandra Amodio/Travel + Leisure

The city that never sleeps lives up to its name: from Broadway shows, to iconic museums, to next-level shopping, to some of the world’s best restaurants, you’ll never be bored in the Big Apple. As one reader summed it up: “What can one say that hasn't already been said? NYC is a great place to visit. Costly, yes. Worth it? Absolutely. Reasonably clean? Yes. Fun? That goes without saying.”

WBA Hall of Fame honoree. Reader score: 83.16

9. Chicago, Illinois

tunart/Getty Images

Whether you want to take in some of America’s great architecture on a Chicago River tour, catch a baseball game at Wrigley Field, or find the best deep-dish, you can do it all in this dynamic, walkable city, which also received praise for its easy-to-navigate public transportation. “I love Chicago. The food, the sports. Did I mention the food? From a cultural perspective it’s fantastic because of how many people are from all over the world. Multiple parts of town have different vibes that keep it fresh and exciting to visit,” said one reader.

WBA Hall of Fame honoree. Reader Score: 82.44

10. Aspen, Colorado

While this mountain town is mostly known for its first-rate skiing (and celebrity-spotting at Hotel Jerome,) T+L readers also noted its year-round appeal and spectacular scenery. From hitting the trails, to checking out the renowned Baldwin Gallery, to having a drink at the legendary Woody Creek Tavern, readers found Aspen to be “a very well-rounded town full of great shops, museums, and restaurants.”

Reader Score: 82.41

11. Taos, New Mexico

Mona Makela Photography/Getty Images

This small city packs a punch. Located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, it’s an adventure paradise for hiking and skiing, as well as rafting the Rio Grande. It’s also home to Taos Pueblo, a 1,000-year old continually inhabited Adobe community, and a rich Indigenous culture. Readers were also charmed by the town’s many independent galleries and shops. “Taos is for athletes, artists, and open minded travelers,” said one reader.

Reader Score: 81.36

12. Annapolis, Maryland

Richard T. Nowitz/Getty Images

Appearing on our list for the first time, this coastal city — known as “the sailing capital of the United States”— received top marks not only for its nautical charms, but also its historic sites, walkable downtown, and of course, crab cakes. Annapolis is also home to the U.S. Naval Academy, and many readers touted football games as a can’t-miss activity. “I love the culture and activities available in Annapolis. Whether you're visiting for educational purposes or coming to enjoy the Navy football games, you will definitely have a good time,” said one voter.

Reader Score: 81.26

13. Nashville, Tennessee

Readers can’t get enough of the nightlife in Music City. Whether it’s a lively honky tonk on Broadway, a Grand Ole Opry performance, or an open mic night at a quiet cafe, visitors are spoiled for choice when it comes to hearing top-notch artists. And while things can certainly get rowdy, “it’s not all bachelorette parties and cowboy hats,” as one reader notes —  there are dozens of places to catch great theater and art. The city’s strong culinary scene and efficient airport also received praise.

Reader Score: 81.18

14. Boston, Massachusetts

Violet Smirnova/Travel + Leisure

This New England capital captivates all types of travelers, whether you’re a history buff intent on walking the Freedom Trail, a baseball lover looking to catch a game at Fenway Park, or a gourmand seeking the best Italian food in the North End. “It's a perfect mix of old and modern,” claims one reader. Visitors also appreciated that the highly walkable city has distinct neighborhoods, each with a unique feel. Plus, Boston has welcomed several noteworthy hotels in recent years, including the first Raffles property in North America, which opened this September.

Reader Score: 80.75

15. Alexandria, Virginia

Photos by Coyle/Getty Images

This historic city, which is just five miles from Washington D.C. but feels worlds away, strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and small-town. Readers were drawn to its picturesque waterfront of Old Town, and also praised attractions like the The Torpedo Factory Art Center and the Mount Vernon Trail, ideal for bird watching and easy bike rides.

Tourism Slogans for Every Country in the World: From Catchy to Cringeworthy

You guys — I have gone down a rabbit hole. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I started searching for country tourism slogans to include on a Country Quick Facts Infographic I am creating for my newly-designed country category pages (check out the test run for Colombia here !).

Before I knew it, I had compiled a comprehensive list of the tourism slogans for every country and territory in the world! So I decided to rank the Top 20 Best and Worst tourism slogans just for kicks. And I also threw in a few tourism logos while I was at it!

It was interesting to see what catchy (or not-so-catchy) taglines countries have come up with to lure tourists, especially since (at the time of this writing) US citizens are banned from all but a handful of these countries due to the coronavirus.

Some countries opted for the easy go-to of alliteration (“Brilliant Barbados”; “Beautiful Burundi”; “Pristine Paradise Palau”; “Timeless Tuvalu”) or assonance (“Epic Estonia”; “Incredible India”). Other countries got a little more creative (Djibouti: “Djibeauty”; Slovenia: “I feel sLOVEnia”; Ukraine: “It’s all about U”).

A few countries decided to make some bold claims (“Dominican Republic Has It All”; “All You Need Is Ecuador”; Honduras: “Everything Is Here”), while smaller, lesser-known countries opted to just tell you where they are located (Andorra: “The Pyrenean Country”; Bosnia & Herzegovina: “The Heart of SE Europe”).

Without further ado, here is my ranking (in alphabetical order) of the Top 20 Best and Worst Country Tourism Slogans. Let’s get the cringeworthy taglines out of the way first before moving onto the catchy ones….
