Simply as a technical spectacle, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is a dazzling achievement, capturing the sensation of seeing the pop goddess’ sold-out concerts in all their enormity and intimacy.

Director Sam Wrench ’s cameras are everywhere at once as Swift sings, stomps, and smiles through a nearly three-hour cross-section of her discography. They surround her as she and her dancers cover the mammoth square footage of her SoFi Stadium stage, which lights up imaginatively to correspond with each time frame. They swarm the skies to take in the entirety of the crowd, alight with their cell phones like 70,000 giddy fireflies. But they also get up close and personal for the slightest flicker of a facial expression, which is particularly effective during poignant sections like Swift’s 10-minute rendition of the rueful and rageful “All Too Well.” Wrench’s editing team seamlessly combines performances over three nights this summer in Inglewood, California, placing us firmly within the frenzy while also pulling back to marvel at the big picture.

But regardless of the era Swift’s revisiting, her singular ability to connect emotionally with both the songs and her audience is what shines through. Her showmanship is astonishing—her hustle, her joy—but there’s an abiding authenticity at the core even as we see her evolve from one album to the next right before our eyes. The awesome amazon of “Anti-Hero” (from her latest, “Midnights”) is also the plucky up-and-comer of “ Our Song ” from the early days. She’s both the delightful dork and the vengeful vixen, but she finds a way to make every person in that crowd feel like they’re her BFF and soulmate. Maintaining relatability within stratospheric superstardom has been Swift’s impressive balancing act, and that’s always on display here, no matter what song she’s singing.

And you get all the biggies, from ubiquitous earworms like “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood” from “1989” (which I could never hear again and be totally fine, but they were probably a blast in this live setting) to playful anthems like “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble” from “ Red .” But “The Eras Tour” movie also gives us plenty of time to luxuriate in her achingly vivid songwriting during the “folklore” and “evermore” eras. The performance of “champagne problems” at a moss-covered piano—which she wrote with ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn —is an emotional highlight, as is “betty” on the acoustic guitar from within the rustic “folklore” cabin. Although she’s long been a fashion icon for women and an aspirational idol for little girls everywhere, her evocative storytelling is her deepest and most transcendent strength, and this film wisely allows us to appreciate that ability anew. (From these early pandemic-era albums, it would have been nice to hear “cardigan” and “no body, no crime” with HAIM, who joined her on stage throughout the Los Angeles run, but you can’t have everything.)

One of the coolest parts of having so many cameras at play here—and you never see a single one of them, it’s a miracle—is that it gives us the opportunity to notice the little things, like the fact that Swift’s microphones change in color and detail to match each era. We can also ooh and ahh at the painstaking detail on her exquisite costume design, including sparkly Versace bodysuits, Christian Louboutin boots and the flowy Alberta Ferretti gown she dons for “folklore.” Even if you were lucky enough and could afford tickets to attend one of these concerts, you couldn’t achieve this level of intimacy.

Every tiny bit signifies how seriously she has taken this massive endeavor, and it all pops brightly on the big screen. Taking it all in over 165 minutes may sound like a lot if you’re not a hardcore Swiftie—and truly, it is exhausting by the end—but purely as a cinematic experience, “The Eras Tour” is enormously entertaining. Pull on a couple of friendship bracelets and surrender to the phenomenon.

The full Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film is finally coming to streaming — with 4 bonus surprise songs

"Cardigan" and four songs from the acoustic set will be included in the "Taylor's Version" cut of the movie, which is heading to Disney+.

eras tour kino

It's Swiftmas in February!

Just days after announcing her 11th studio album , The Tortured Poets Department , Taylor Swift has unveiled the long-awaited streaming plans for her blockbuster Eras Tour concert film .

Disney+ announced Wednesday that it will be the exclusive streaming home of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) , a cut of the film that will present the concert in its entirety for the first time. The new version of the movie, which also includes the song "Cardigan" and four additional acoustic songs, will make its streaming debut March 15. Swift shared the news on social media shortly after Disney's announcement.

The Eras Tour film, directed by Sam Wrench, grossed more than $260 million at the global box office, making it the top selling concert film of all time.

Buda Mendes/TAS23/Getty Images

In making the announcement, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, "The Eras Tour has been a true phenomenon that has and continues to thrill fans around the world, and we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences wherever they are, exclusively on Disney+."

The film debuted in theaters Oct. 13, and noticeably excluded five songs from the Eras Tour set list as it was performed in Los Angeles in August, when the film was shot: "No Body No Crime," "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer," "Cardigan" and "Long Live." When it later headed to VOD rentals on Swift's birthday on Dec. 13, a new version of the film featured the performances of "Wildest Dreams," "The Archer" and "Long Live" tacked on at the end, but not the other two songs.

Given that this new Taylor's Version of the film is being touted as being shown "in its entirety for the first time," it stands to reason that all the missing tracks will finally take their rightful place in the film, in addition to four additional acoustic songs. But since "No Body No Crime" is not explicitly mentioned and "Cardigan" is, it would appear "NBNC" will likely be the only song to not make the cut, presumably since it was a performance with Haim unique to only a small handful of Eras Tour dates, and the concert film is more inclusive of the tour as a whole.

As for the four new acoustic performances in the film, on each of the three nights the concert was filmed in L.A., Swift performed two different surprise songs during the acoustic set, meaning there were six different possibilities for the film in that section of the show. In the original theatrical and VOD rental versions, only "You're On Your Own, Kid" and "Our Song" made the cut. That means that the remaining acoustic performances of "I Can See You," "Maroon," "You Are in Love," and "Death by a Thousand Cuts" will likely be in the film somewhere.

Taylor Swift Announces Eras Tour Concert Film

Taylor Swift will bring the grandeur and the glory of the Eras Tour to the big screen with a concert film set to hit theaters Oct. 13.

“ The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! The Eras Tour — which is technically only halfway done at this point — has already been one of the biggest tours of all time. The hype was astronomical from the moment Swift announced the trek (her first since the 2018 Reputation tour ) in late 2022 on the heels of her latest album, Midnights. (Seriously, when the dates were announced, several people were forced to consider whether it was worth it to reschedule their own weddings ).

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

Despite this early hiccup, once the Eras Tour got underway in March 2023, it was an unstoppable force. You can check out Rolling Stone ’s list of the top 25 moments from the tour (so far), but to name a few highlights, there were special duets with Phoebe Bridgers , Aaron Dessner , Marcus Mumford , and Ice Spice ; a first performance of “Dear John” in 11 years ; and dramatic unveilings of not one, but two , “Taylor’s Version” albums, Speak Now and 1989 .

And as if Swift wasn’t already busy enough, the singer also recently announced the release announced the release of  1989 (Taylor’s Version)  at her final Los Angeles Eras Tour show earlier this month. “To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVORITE re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From the Vault tracks are so insane,” she wrote on Instagram later. “I can’t believe they were ever left behind. Everything You'll Want to Know About Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Concert Film

Swifties rejoice: you can finally relive the Eras Tour in your living room.

eras tour kino

I am a die-hard Swiftie . Over the past decade of my life, I've analyzed her endless Easter eggs, had Taylor top my Spotify Wrapped for years, and you better believe I checked out the Eras Tour this summer. The concert was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I made and traded friendship bracelets with fellow Swifties and sang every word to every song while I was at the show. I even went to the Eras Tour concert film and relived every second of the extravaganza.

Swift's highly anticipated concert flick premiered in theaters earlier this fall, and it smashed records. CNBC  reported  that it's the highest-grossing domestic concert film ever, bringing in between $95 million and $97 million. Recently, Swift announced that the Eras Tour will be coming to living rooms, as the film has been released for rent on several on-demand services.

If you got snubbed in that Ticketmaster debacle , or if you just want to relive the magic that was the Eras Tour, I've got you covered with all the important information you'll want to know before attending from the comfort of your own home.

For more entertainment-related fare, here are  10 things you can do to save money on streaming , and here are the best smart TVs of 2023 .

What is the Eras Tour?

Swift's stadium tour swept through more than a dozen US cities plus Mexico City this summer. The Eras Tour is a love letter to her impressive musical career and the fans who have seen her through it. The numbers indicate the tour draws massive public appeal. The tour is projected to gross $1 billion , including Swift's overseas tour next spring.

That billion dollars is, by all accounts, a fantastic measure of Swift's power, but it doesn't even account for the thousands of fans who attended her concerts from parking lots and bridges outside of the concert venues this year. Already, Swift's journey around the US has proved an economic boon to host cities.

So, what is the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film?

Filmed over her Los Angeles dates at the SoFi stadium, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is a two-hour, 45-minute chronicle of her hit tour. For fans who are familiar with the tour, this raises some questions as to what has been cut from the film. The concert I attended ran for about 3 hours, but by the end of the tour, it was about three and a half hours long. Curious fans finally have their answers.

The film had its premiere on Oct. 11, and we finally know what's been cut. Be warned, I'm going to get into some major spoilers for the concert film, so if you want to be surprised while you watch, just skip this section.

It looks like Swift has nixed five songs from the setlist she performed the nights she recorded the film. Entertainment Weekly reports that the songs No Body, No Crime; Long Live; Wildest Dreams; The Archer and Cardigan were all cut from the concert film. Fans of Long Live do have some recompense; it plays over tour bloopers and videos of fans during the credits.

Of the six surprise songs she recorded (Swift performs these during the rotating acoustic portion of the show), the songs Our Song and You're On Your Own, Kid ended up making the final cut. Fans can also expect to see shortened costume changes and transitions between Swift's different eras in the film.

How long is Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film in theaters?

Swift's concert film hit theaters worldwide on Oct. 13. According to Insider, the film had to be shown in theaters for four weeks following its release. Insider said Swift circumvented Hollywood studios and negotiated the film's distribution directly with AMC, allowing her to have more control. Time has reported that Swift's concert film has brought home an impressive $248.9 million at the box office, cementing itself as the highest-grossing concert film at the US box office. Given this accomplishment, it's safe to say the concert film will be hanging around theaters for a while.

How can I get Swift movie tickets?

You can buy tickets to the concert film where you would ordinarily buy tickets to most movies, either online or at an in-person box office.

Swift's website has links to sites where you can buy tickets through AMC, Regal, Cinemark and Fandango. You could check your local indie theater's website too, to see whether it's showing the concert film.

Fan reaction to ticket sales was swift (pardon the pun). Wanda Gierhart Fearing,  Cinemark 's chief marketing and content officer, told me that the company saw "frenzied traffic to [its] website and app the moment tickets went on sale" and that "we are ready for Swifties to be enchanted by this concert film in the unprecedented number of auditoriums we have booked to meet demand."

How much do tickets cost?

Adult tickets go for $19.89, which is a nod to the year of Swift's birth and the title of her fifth studio album, 1989. Fans also know that the album 1989 is about to get the Taylor's Version treatment, with the artist's rerecording of the album dropping 14 days after the film hits theaters. Seniors and children's tickets go for $13.13, a nod to Swift's lucky number.

Right now, it's unclear whether subscribers to paid theater subscriptions like Regal Unlimited will be able to use the deals available to them on tickets for this film, given the special pricing. In a FAQ on AMC's website, the company said that this film is excluded from the company's A-List program's reservation feature.

Cinemark confirmed to CNET that members of the Cinemark Movie Club can apply all standard benefits of the membership.

Can I treat this like a normal concert?

While a concert film can be exciting and almost feel like a real concert, it's best practice to be respectful of other theatergoers both in your showing and in other showings at the theater.

This doesn't mean you can't keep up with other Eras Tour practices, like wearing a fun costume based on Swift's songs and lyrics or making and trading friendship bracelets with other Swifties. You could even quietly sing along and dance in your seat, as long as you're considerate of viewers around you and don't interrupt others' viewing experience.

If you're attending the film at an AMC theater, then you're in luck. The company has provided you with guidelines for how to behave during the film -- and it all boils down to being respectful of those around you.

I saw the concert film at an indie theater, and in my experience, people were pretty quiet during the film. There was no singing loud enough for me to detect, and the only people who danced in my theater were several smaller children. Based on my experience, I recommend going in with the expectation of watching this film just like you would any other movie.

If you just have to sing and dance along to all of your favorite Taylor Swift hits (which I totally understand the urge to do) you do have some options. In a press release distributed to CNET, Cinemark announced Private Swiftie Parties -- an extension of its Private Watch Parties offering -- that allow fans to reserve an entire auditorium for singing and dancing. In the release, Fearing said "our larger-than-life screens and captivating surround sound deliver a most enchanting environment to sing and dance along with friends and family to the concert of the decade." Right now, these Private Swiftie Parties are on sale on Cinemark's website and app. The watch parties are available at participating locations for $800 and can accommodate up to 40 fans.

How can I watch the concert film at home?

This week, Swift announced that the Eras Tour concert film, extended version, will be available to rent on Dec. 13 (none other than the singer's birthday) on Apple TV, Vudu, Prime Video, Xfinity, Google Play and YouTube. Fans can expect some extra content from the extended version, with previously cut songs Wildest Dreams, The Archer and Long Live being added back in. Renting the concert film will set you back $19.89, and you'll be able to stream the film for 48 hours.

There's not an exact date on when we can expect the concert film on streaming services, although TV Line reports that Swift can't put her concert film on streaming platforms for 13 weeks after the film comes out. Jan. 12, 2024, would be the earliest possible date the film could wind up on a streaming service.

As a seasoned Swiftie, my recommendation is to keep a close eye on any hints Swift might give over the next few months for a streaming release date. Her well-known Easter eggs have given fans clues to album release dates and music video drops, so it's possible she'll use one to reveal the film's streaming debut.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie Review: Long Live the Eras Tour

In a new concert film recapping the singer’s career-defining tour, the pop star and her fans are stronger—and more sincere—than ever

Before she rises out of the center of the stage and begins to sing through her 10-era career, director Sam Wrench shows us the outside of SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where Swift is performing for the movie. It’s the final stop on the first U.S. leg of her tour—a tour projected to generate over $1 billion in ticket sales by the time it ends in 2024—and it’s packed with around 70,000 Swifties for one of six consecutive sold-out nights. Swift had worried she was nearing the end of her pop music career in the 2020 documentary Miss Americana . Four years later, we’re reminded who wouldn’t let that happen on their watch.

Then, she emerges. Just like when I saw her on a warm evening in Tampa this spring, and then in a four-hour torrential downpour in Boston weeks later, Swift performs as if she’s grateful for every millisecond she spends onstage. In high-definition, she is radiant, confident, and—as she says in a speech midshow—having the time of her life with us.

Much like Swift’s catalog, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has the same expert balance of glittery, bombastic pop production and deeply felt, stripped-down moments. Even if you watched the entire tour on TikTok and have the set list memorized, the concert film will feel brand new. Wrench’s direction allows the transitions from era to era and song to song to pop onscreen, contrasting intimate close-ups of Swift and her instruments with overhead shots of the packed stadium. (The swirling camera movements for the transition from the soaring harmonies of “Don’t Blame Me” to the campy revenge chant of “Look What You Made Me Do” were a personal highlight.)

Swift’s voice has never sounded stronger. The moments she picks up her guitar or sits down at the piano are the emotional peaks. She casts a spell that turns a cavernous stadium into a closely intimate performance with “Champagne Problems” and the 10-minute rendition of “All Too Well.” No, none of the expletives were censored out.

It was inevitable the live show would be cut down for the film, though, given the colossal length of the original set list. Fan-favorite tracks were wiped from nearly every section (including “The Archer,” “Long Live,” “Cardigan,” and “Wildest Dreams”). Swift’s monologues about her songwriting process were also edited down. With the remaining songs, Wrench offers viewers a chance to see details up close that they may have overlooked, or underappreciated, if they saw the show live. Shots of Swift show off the intricate beadwork and embroidery on costumes by Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Oscar de la Renta, Zuhair Murad, and other designers, coordinated by Swift’s longtime stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer. Swift’s four backing vocalists, band, and dancers—who turned each song into a living and breathing story—are also given ample screen time.

Back to the other 70,000 main characters: the fans. As in most concert movies, there are shots of audience members singing along (and sometimes crying). Thanks to the wristband lights every member of the audience wears, they’re also twinkling in the background for a significant part of the film. You can see the crowd jumping up and down for “Love Story,” can see fans all the way up in the nosebleeds waving their hands in unison for “You Need to Calm Down.” Swift brings the energy, and the Swifties match it. “Look at you!” she exclaims.

And: listen. You can hear fans singing along through every segment of the show, with swells of screaming and applause that go from loud at the opening to ear-shattering when the “surprise songs” arrive. Swift performs a two-song acoustic set toward the end of each show, one piece on her guitar and one at the piano, and the selections have changed every night. The two tracks she and Wrench chose for the film are bookends to her career at this moment in time. First there’s “Our Song,” a twangy bop about a high school romance from her 2006 self-titled debut album. Then comes “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” from 2022’s Midnights , on the piano.

night one of taylor swift the eras tour los angeles, ca

“You’re on Your Own, Kid” needs only three minutes and 14 seconds to cover the same 17-year musical period as the entire Eras Tour. It’s a profoundly lonely song that surveys the heartbreaks, sacrifices, and realizations comprising Swift’s rise from teenager writing songs in her bedroom to global phenomenon.

The camera cuts in close on Swift’s face as she reaches the emotional crest of the song. The chorus builds by tallying up moments that have wounded her, but she then makes a lyrically sharp turn toward a sense of purpose and self-actualization: “I looked around in a blood-soaked gown / And I saw something they can’t take away,” she sings. As she plays for tens of thousands of human beings hanging on her every syllable, I can imagine she saw that irreplaceable something again.

Maybe that something is the fans who find themselves in her music, who are compelled to make friendship bracelets in the style of that song’s final lines and trade them at arenas and theaters and airports—who, like me, will dance with her even through storms. Swift shares a dedication written in friendship bracelet beads after the credits roll: “Thank you to the most generous, thoughtful, loving fans on the planet. This is all because of you and for you.”

I wished I could respond with a question Swift herself asks in the title track of 2019’s Lover : “Can we always be this close?”

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is now playing in theaters.

Here Are All the Songs in ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ Movie

Find out which songs from the tour setlist were cut

eras tour kino

Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered in October to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap got the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.

After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the film’s premiere in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.

The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico. The European leg will kick off in November, with Swift returning for 15 more U.S. shows in October and November of 2024. And now you can rent “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” on digital to watch at home. Read on for the 41 songs that made the cut to truly represent all 10 of Swift’s eras.

How Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Film Differs from the Concert, Including Which Songs Were Cut

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour movie is here and some fan-favorite songs didn't make the cut. Here's everything to know about the biggest differences from the concert

eras tour kino

Kevin Winter/TAS23/Getty

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour is coming to a theater near you!

On Oct. 11, the “Blank Space” singer debuted her new concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film , at the official premiere in Los Angeles .

Featuring hits from her last 10 albums, the movie takes fans through Swift’s extensive music catalo g, from her debut album to her latest release, Midnights .

While the movie, which was filmed during the first three nights of her six-night stop in Los Angeles , gives Swifties a front-row seat to Swift’s successful Eras Tour, there are several differences from the actual concert.

Notably, due to the shorter runtime (the movie clocks in at 2 hours and 45 minutes, while the concert lasts more than 3 hours and 15 minutes), several songs were cut.

Ahead, here’s everything to know about how the concert film compares to the actual concert, including the key differences.

Warning: major spoilers ahead for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film .

Which songs were cut from the Eras Tour movie setlist?

Jeff Kravitz/TAS23/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management

With the film’s shorter runtime, the biggest question on fans’ minds is: which songs didn't make the cut? When compared to the Los Angeles setlist, the ones that don't seem to be included in the film are: "No Body, No Crime" with Haim, "Long Live," "Wildest Dreams,” The Archer" and "Cardigan."

Since the movie was filmed during the L.A. shows, other songs from the tour that don’t appear include "'Tis the Damn Season," “Nothing New” with Phoebe Bridgers and “Invisible String.” Additionally, the “Seven” interlude was scrapped.

Was anything else cut from the Eras Tour movie?

Kevin Mazur/Getty

Many fans have noted that the transitions between Swift's eras have also been shortened. In particular, it appears that the pianist intro for “Tolerate It” has been cut and the big intro to the Red era has been condensed.

That being said, other notable transitional moments still appear in the film, including the bewitching moment before “Willow” and Swift’s snake entrance before Reputation .

What were the surprise songs for the Eras Tour movie?

While filming the concert movie, Swift performed six different surprise songs during her acoustic setlist, including "I Can See You," "Maroon," "Our Song," "You Are in Love," "Death by a Thousand Cuts" and "You're on Your Own, Kid."

The two that made it in the film are "Our Song" (on guitar) and "You're on Your Own, Kid" (on piano) — fitting choices, as the first song includes her debut album on the setlist and the second song became the unsung anthem of the Eras Tour by inspiring fans to make friendship bracelets with fellow Swifties.

Were there any musical guests in the Eras Tour movie?

Kevin Mazur/TAS23/Getty

The entire concert is just Swift’s setlist and doesn’t include any of her opening acts such as Gracie Abrams, Gayle and Beabadoobee. Additionally, Swift’s performances of "No Body, No Crime" with Haim and “Nothing New” with Phoebe Bridgers are not featured.

Though Swift had several musical guests during her tour , including Jack Antonoff, Aaron Dessner and Ice Spice, none of them are included in the concert film either.

Is there an end-credits scene in the Eras Tour movie?

John Medina/Getty

Unlike Swift’s previous concert films — such as The 1989 World Tour Live released by Apple Music which featured various interviews and backstage footage — Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film doesn’t include any bonus material during the course of the movie.

However, the credits, which are set to “Long Live” from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , does include some fun footage of fans and bloopers from the concert.

Silvia Stoyanova

After a year-long battle to see Taylor Swift in concert , Silvia Stoyanova finally got her wish.

In July of 2023, Stoyanova — who has been in a wheelchair for most of her life — sparked a rallying cry in Italy after she purchased a premium ticket for Taylor Swift ’s July 14 Eras Tour concert at Milan’s San Siro stadium. She was informed by organizers that the venue’s front row section was not enabled for wheelchair access and that the designated wheelchair access section was sold out.

Related Stories

Why is bytedance considering a move that burned so many tech giants, venice film festival jury: andrew haigh, agnieszka holland, james gray and more join president isabelle huppert.

After many months of tribulations, Stoyanova eventually got a ticket to the stadium’s wheelchair access area and, on Sunday, attended the Milan Eras Tour event Below, she speaks to Variety about her experience.

You fought so hard to attend this concert. How did you feel on the actual day?

When the long-awaited day arrived, I was very scared. I didn’t know what I would be facing because I know my weaknesses, my frailties, like any disabled person. For us, these situations that for other people are simple, often get complicated. Even when everything seems all resolved; even when you think all should go smoothly. My experience, over 36 years, has taught me to always expect some unexpected snag. Once I got to San Siro stadium, I thought I would calm down and settle into my space in the disabled section. But unfortunately once we got on site, the stadium personnel didn’t have any idea where the entrance to the disabled platform was. So I missed the first 40 minutes of Taylor’s concert being tossed around between one gate and another because no one knew where we were supposed to go.

How did you feel when you finally got inside?

And I cried a lot, during every song. Unloading all the tension, stress and fear that I carried inside me for a year. My mom and my friend were saying, “We got in. Why are you crying?” And I said, “I know we’re in. That’s exactly why I’m crying.”

As a Swiftie, what were the highlights of the concert for you?

Emotionally, the biggest highlight was when I saw her come out dressed for “All Too Well.” In fact, in one of my videos I break down crying right at the beginning of that song because of the empathy, the bond that Taylor creates with her fans. Swifties know what “All Too Well” means for her. We know that it talks about her real life, and the real emotion she puts into it. So when “All Too Well” started, it was as if Taylor and I were connected. Even though I haven’t lived her same story, I know what it meant for her. So it was like I was crying for her. Then, in terms of pure spectacle, all of the four songs she did from “Reputation” because they brought down the stadium. And also “Champagne Problems” because, again, you really hear the emotional charge of the screaming fans who want Taylor to hear and feel all their warmth.

Has your battle managed to prompt some change? It seems like there’s still a ways to go.

Yes, it’s clear that we aren’t there yet. We need to continue to push for this cause. The minister for disabilities has made a commitment and I am involved in panels with various organizations. But it’s certainly something that takes time. And if for whatever reason, despite promises, we get cast aside, we will keep making ourselves heard. We won’t stop fighting for our rights.

Watch the Moment Taylor Swift's Dancer Makes Her Accidentally Break Character at the Eras Tour in Germany

The minor gaff came at the end of her first night in Gelsenkirchen, Germany — where she is set to play two more nights this week

Taylor Swift doesn't need to fake smiles on the Eras Tour stage!

As the pop superstar, 34, performed her first of three sold-out Eras Tour shows in Gelsenkirchen — a mid-sized city in western Germany just north of Cologne, fans spied a funny moment Swift shared with one of her dancers while on stage.

Typically, when the singer transitions into her performance of "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart," her dancer Kam Saunders typically pretends to hype her up — helping her into a sparkly jacket and even waving to the crowd to cheer.

However, during Wednesday's show while the dancer was waving Swift's arms as a part of the bit, the Grammy winner's indignant face broke into a half smile as she appeared to stifle a laugh, captured in a fan video posted to X (formerly Twitter).

But Swift managed to pull it together — launching into the track off of The Tortured Poets Department right on track.

At the show, she was also visited by her boyfriend Travis Kelce — the 13th Eras Tour show the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has attended. Kelce was spotted in a private suite at the concert, enjoying the show before he's expected stateside for Chiefs training camp, which begins on July 19.

Though this is the first German stop of the Eras Tour, Swift has been no stranger to Germany on past concert tours. While she skipped over the country for the Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018, the singer played two dates in Germany during the 1989 World Tour, one for the Red Tour and another for the Speak Now tour — though never in Gelsenkirchen.

To welcome the “Fortnight” singer to town, local Swiftie Aleshanee Westhoff started a petition for Mayor Karin Welge to rename the city to “Swiftkirchen” during the star’s tour stop. It clearly caught Welge’s attention because, on July 2, the city unveiled a new town entrance sign with the city’s new temporary name, captured in an Instagram post by the city’s official account . (The account even changed its profile picture to match the color of Swift’s eras!)

Swift’s latest stop on her record-breaking Eras Tour comes on the heels of a two-night stint in Milan last weekend. At the second show, Swift sparked chatter among her fans with a onstage technical mishap — as she began a piano mashup of tracks "Getaway Car" and "Out of the Woods," the instrument malfunctioned . ("We have finally broken this thing," Swift joked to the crowd.)

Nonetheless, in an Instagram post after the shows , Swift said performing in the Italian city was “a dream come true” — calling the crowds two of her “favorite crowds ever."

The “Cruel Summer” singer is set to play two more nights in Gelsenkirchen — or Swiftkirchen — on July 18 and 19, before she takes her act to her next German city: Hamburg.

Mette says Taylor Swift's 'prowess is unreal' ahead of her opening London Eras Tour slot

Portrait of Melissa Ruggieri

When Mette takes the Wembley Stadium stage to open the first of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour of five shows, it won’t be her debut at one of the most famous venues in the world. But it will be the first time she’s there with a microphone in hand.

Starting in 2014, Mette toured the world with Pharrell Williams as one of The Baes, his renowned dance troupe. Summer Sonic in Japan, Glastonbury in England and other massive festivals around the globe – Mette has had plenty of opportunities to perform in front of tens of thousands.

But when she becomes part of the Eras Tour lineage on June 21, it will be different.

“I’m going to be so present on that stage,” she says. “Twenty-five minutes is going to go by fast .”

Mette’s debut EP, “METTENARRATIVE,” arrived last fall and launched the world-beat-pop single, “Mama’s Eyes,” which earned her a prestigious Ivor Novello award nomination this year. Her single, “Bet,” is a slice of irresistible dance-pop with a funk groove, and she’s readying the release of three more songs, “Muscle,” “Coming of Age” and “Small World.”

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

But despite her quickly thriving musical pivot, she and Swift initially crossed paths when both were exploring a film opportunity – the critically mauled 2019 film version of “Cats .”

So who is Mette and why did Swift choose her for a coveted opening slot?

Mette admires Taylor Swift's ‘creative prowess’

Mette, 33, says the combination of performing at a show with not only the biggest artist in the world, but fellow opening act Paramore is “one of the many incredible circles of life surrounding me right now.”

She recalls attending the Vans Warped Tour in the mid-'00s and seeing Paramore perform and also remembers the year she turned 22 while at a dance camp in Duluth, Minnesota. Swift’s anthem in tribute to her age at the time was ubiquitous on radio and Mette happily bounced on her bed, singing along.

Though she hasn’t seen the Eras Tour live yet – Mette plans to head into the audience as soon as she can after performing – she’s watched key moments online , with a keen eye toward Swift’s dancers as well as the woman in the spotlight.

“Her work ethic, I admire it so much,” Mette says of Swift. “Her creative prowess is unreal. People talk about the fandemonium, but it’s a true passion connecting people around the world and she’s delivering it in a 3 ½-hour show. She’s an athlete.”

Mette touts the inspiration of Beyoncé and Shakira

Born Mette Towley, she spent her childhood in the small town of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Baltimore, where she attended dance camp and learned about musical theater in movies such as “Singin’ in the Rain.” It’s also where Mette, whose Scandinavian name references her father’s roots, found her “tribe in the performance world.”

Growing up mixed race in a provincial area of the Midwest (her recent song “Darling Drive” harkens to a place where she felt protected by her white father and Black mother but also dealt with “challenging and sometimes unfair” experiences) and then finding comfort in the diversity of artsier Baltimore, Mette refers to her background as “stark intersections.”

She listened to pop and rock, appreciating the brilliance of Prince and also running home from school to watch “TRL” on MTV and be awed by the women owning the video world at the time – Shakira, Destiny’s Child, Nelly Furtado, Gwen Stefani – and soaking in their auras.

Beyoncé and Shakira left impressions on her creative brain and remain idols – Mette can recollect Beyoncé’s “Ring the Alarm” VMAs performance with awed clarity.

“They rent space in my head,” she says with a laugh. “I’m always impressed by artists who continue to evolve and be unbridled by ideas when people say they’re too old or they had a child or whatever. It’s incredible to watch artists I grew up loving continue to strive for excellence.”

‘Barbie’ movie opened Mette’s mind ‘to how fun music can be’

Mette still has a foot in film and appears briefly in the Greta Gerwig blockbuster "Barbie" as Video Girl Barbie, sporting a tuft of long black curls and a hot pink zip-up jacket with zebra-stripe inlays.

She says her current hairstyle is inspired by her celluloid counterpart, but she also gleaned deeper lessons from her monthlong-plus time on set.

“Those costumes were so fun and I accessed a level of camp that informed my video for ‘Van Gogh,’ ” she says. “Working on that set opened my mind to how fun music can be. I want to be taken seriously, yes, but the fun and the costumes and the hair and the makeup … ‘Barbie’ was just really inspiring for the look I’ve been rocking.”

Mette also recalls quietly watching Gerwig at work and marveling at how the director never raised her voice to make a point.

“The way she would reference a scene in a movie, like ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ she’d draw you in with what was in her brain and bring that out of you. She’s so talented, so smart, such a badass,” Mette says. “I’m so grateful for the people I’ve met in my journey through film and dance and music who are so inspiring, but they can be so humble.”

Mette’s concert journey continues through the summer

The summer of Mette will continue as she hits the festival circuit in Europe, as well as Lollapalooza in Chicago in August.

Her second EP – home to the aforementioned singles – will be out in a few months and she’s invigorated by the “launching pad” that her moment in the Swift-iverse might bring.

“It’s really incredible to me that all of these seeds I planted are really starting to grow,” Mette says. “There are so many points in my life that are electrifying me and making me believe in my journey.”

Sabrina Carpenter fans claim presale is tougher than Eras Tour amid ticket chaos

Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet is proving wildly popular, with fans struggling to secure tickets to her UK dates during initial pre-sales

Demand is high for Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet Tour

  • 12:10, 23 Jul 2024
  • Updated 15:38, 23 Jul 2024

Sabrina Carpenter's upcoming tour might be "Short n' Sweet" but the pre-sale queues are proving to be anything but.

The "Espresso" singer recently announced the 2025 UK dates for her Short n' Sweet Tour, much to the delight of fans. Unfortunately, the joy was short-lived for those who have so far failed to secure tickets in this week's presales due to long queues.

While general sale tickets are yet to be released, some pre-sales including the 02 pre-sale and pre-sale for fans who ordered her album went live on 23 July - and demand proved to be very high.

Several fans even compared the rush to the chaos that surrounded the Eras Tour pre-sales last year, with some going so far as to suggest securing Short n' Sweet tickets was more difficult.

Reacting to the sales on X, one such fan asked: "How is it harder to get Sabrina tickets than it was to get tickets for The Eras Tour????" A second replied: "I was just saying that," and another chimed in: "Real."

A different fan said: "Insane that getting eras tour tickets x6 was easier than Sabrina." Elsewhere, someone else joked: "We always thought the great war was the Taylor Swift eras tour tickets but Sabrina said hold my diva cup."

An estimated 3.5 million people pre-registered for pre-sale tickets for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in the US alone, leaving many fans sorely disappointed when show after show sold out. Naturally, ticket demand and availability will differ for Carpenter's arenas tour, with fewer dates, but it's clear she's following in her mentor's footsteps.

Carpenter, who completed her Emails I Can't Send Tour in 2023, also toured with Swift recently, performing as one of the openers for her Eras Tour. Luckily, fans who missed out on Carpenter's previous dates still have a chance to buy tickets for her upcoming Short n' Sweet shows.

Live Nation’s pre-sale for the tour opens on 25 July. Meanwhile, the general sale is on 26 July at 10am local time.
