Goodnews River Float Fishing Trips

As you bask in the peace and quiet, the sound of the float plane gradually fades away. You look around and appreciate the stunning scenery, the crystal clear waters, and the clean, refreshing air. You quickly realize you're miles away from the hustle and bustle of cities, roads, crowds, and phones. A grin spreads across your face as you think to yourself that this place is incredible and just what you have needed!

Going on a self-contained float trip down one of Alaska's wilderness rivers is an unparalleled experience. But if you're looking for the ultimate Alaska float fishing trip, the Goodnews River should be on your bucket list. It's widely regarded as one of the world's finest fishing destinations. With the expert guidance of our staff here at Alaska Rainbow Adventures, you'll have the adventure of a lifetime.

The Goodnews River flows through the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge and the Togiak Refuge Wilderness area in southwestern Alaska. Commercial float trips on the river are regulated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Alaska Rainbow Adventures has been chosen as the top operator on the Goodnews River, which gives us the advantage of offering you the best available start dates for a float fishing trip on Alaska's Goodnews River!

A Goodnews River Float Trip is an ideal destination for fishing enthusiasts, offering consistent angling opportunities. Whether you're targeting Chinook, Chum, or Sockeye Salmon during early to midsummer, Silver or Coho Salmon in the fall, or the abundant leopard rainbows and dolly varden throughout the season, a Goodnews River Float Trip with Alaska Rainbow Adventures guarantees you an exciting experience! Our float trips are known for providing the most diverse and best fishing opportunities on the Goodnews River.

Our "Alaska Float Fishing Programs" are designed to provide anglers a superior and comfortable Alaskan adventure. With over three decades of experience, we guarantee the best amenities that ensure safety, comfort, and an excellent fishing experience. We offer two fishing programs on the Goodnews River, our Standard style trip for groups of up to eight persons (*see exclusions and details) and returning for 2025 season, the ultimate fishing adventure with our exclusive Fisherman's Deluxe-style trip option. On our "fisherman's Deluxe" trips, relax and fish; you have limited to no need for involvement with unloading the rafts, moving camp gear, and setting up taking down sleep tents; just fish and enjoy yourself. This style of trip upgrades your experience and comfort level. It includes a gear boat and extra camp hand/guide. For those of you whose days of tent camping in little tents and sleeping on the ground are behind you, the "accommodations" manufactured here in Alaska for its extreme conditions are like no other you will find anywhere on an Alaska float trip! There is also a custom-built dining tent and screened area that can hold the entire group for dining or as a gathering area. Each tent houses two anglers and is spacious enough to provide ample space for your gear and a comfortable retreat should the weather become inclement. We equip these tents with chairs and comfortable cots, a welcome luxury after a day of fishing. Just toss on "your bag" and enjoy a good night's sleep. On the water, two anglers and their guide float the river in custom rafts. Each is equipped with front and rear seating, allowing for an exceptional angling experience. The rafts are less heavily loaded, thanks to the additional gear being in a different boat, and are more maneuverable, allowing access to runs you might not otherwise be able to reach. Anglers can rotate guides daily, enabling everyone to fish with each staff member if desired. To ensure an intimate and personalized experience, we have decided to limit the number of guests to only six persons for the Fisherman's Deluxe Style trips on the Goodnews River. When making your reservation, it is mandatory to reserve all six spaces. This allows us to provide you with an unparalleled level of service and attention. Don't miss this exceptional opportunity to indulge in world-class fishing amidst the majestic landscapes of Alaska! We are now booking trips for the current season through 2027 On the Kanektok and **Goodnews Rivers **North and Middle Fork Trips Available *Standard style trips require group participation with some of the activities a float trip entails and has no gear boat or extra guide camp hand.

Float Fishing Trip Goodnews River

Joshua Holtom

"We spent last week on the Goodnews River float with head guide Mike, Ohio Mike, John and Cole. This may have been the best week of my life, we had such a good time with these guys, they were helpful, hardworking and provided us with guidance to ultimately catch more fish! If you're looking for the adventure of a lifetime, call these guys up, and do it. What an experience we had."

Goodnews River Float Trip

Jeffrey Morrow

"I fished the Goodnews River with Alaska Rainbow Adventures and head guide Mike Bianchi last week and had a GREAT time. It was my first time in Alaska, and an adventure it was. Mike and his crew worked hard all day, everyday to ensure that the guests were well taken care of, and of course, to get us into fish. Some in our group caught all five salmon species, plus Lake Trout, Rainbow, Dollies, and Grayling. But this was so much more than a fishing trip. The beauty of Southwest Alaska is something to behold, complete with wildlife and majestic landscapes. Flying in a float plane and camping on the river brings home the wilderness that still remains in this beautiful country. Mind you, this is not a trip for those that want to be constantly pampered... it's a camping and fishing expedition guided by experts. If you're ready for an adventure, give Alaska Rainbow Adventures a call, you'll be glad you did!"

Fishing Trip Goodnews River Float

I floated the Goodnews in early August. The experience was everything I expected. Alaskan Rainbow Adventures is a very professional and a top notch guide service. The guides were very knowledgeable, friendly, and hardworking. The food and camp experience was incredible as well. The fishing on the Goodnews river was excellent. Although the Silver run was delayed, we were still able to catch eight different species of fish, including the Salmon slam.

The Goodnews River offers many photographic opportunities. Between the continuously changing landscape and the encountered wildlife, anyone with a camera will end up with hundreds of photographs at the end of this trip. I would definitely recommend Alaska Rainbow Adventures, and I plan on using this guide service in the future.

Alaska Rainbow Adventures not only crossed off an item on my list, but it also exceeded all of my expectations! From the moment I arrived in Bethel until I left 10 days later, the trip was truly remarkable.

I came for the fishing, which was phenomenal, but I was treated to so much more thanks to our guides. They were supremely courteous and professional, and very good at what they do. However, what they did was so much more than just putting us on the fish. Working 14-hour days every day is tough enough. But when you consider ALL that they do during those 14 hours, that's when you begin to appreciate the magnitude of their efforts.

Their duties included making breakfast, breaking down camp, loading the rafts, guiding and rowing the rafts safely down the river, always positioning the boat correctly to maximize the fishing, netting the fish (we caught hundreds of fish), finding suitable campsites, unloading the rafts, setting up camp, cooking dinner, cleaning dishes, building fires, making lunch for the next day, and being responsible for our safety and security for the entire trip. They did all of this with not only a positive attitude but also with a smile on their faces and a genuine concern for their clients.

I am not sure how much they get paid, but it's not enough. They definitely deserve a raise! The incredible fishing, to steal a phrase from one of my trip-mates, 'size and volume,' was expected (and it was awesome), but Mike and Dac's incredible work ethic, positive attitude, knowledge/experience, and genuine likeability made this trip extraordinary. This was the trip of a lifetime and hope to return to Alaska for another adventure, and if I do, it will undoubtedly be with the crew from Alaska Rainbow Adventures!

Float Fishing trip Goodnews River

Michael Grant

I had done this type of float fishing and camping trip up in Alaska in the past with another outfit that is no longer in operation, since then I have been talking with Paul Hansen about his trips with Alaska Rainbow Adventures, after having been recommended to him by a guide friend of mine. When things on my end finally allowed me to pull the trigger on heading to Alaska again, I chose their Goodnews river trip, in this case the last one of the season and a ten day trip to boot!

Thinking back on all the lodge and camping trips I have done in the past, let me tell all who read this, that this is the kind of trip for you, especially if you are a fishing junkie like myself! While lots of lodge trips are more luxurious, on those trips we all find ourselves back at the lodge by 4 o`clock swapping stories, comparing the days fishing, showered and drinking. On this trip at 4pm you are still out fishing as hard as you like and can continue to do so all night if you have not gotten enough. Imagine after dinner wandering back to the river and fishing for a couple of hours and adding five to twenty additional fish to the days already ludicrous tally and only then throwing in the towel for the night!

If you are reading this you are most likely considering going to Alaska, if you do, be sure to give seriously consideration to this professionally run tour in which every comfort is taken into consideration. On this trip there was a shower, bathroom, comfortable sleeping accommodations, and most importantly 'Great Guides' who never stopped working for you!!!

The guides were completely professional, hard working and put us on so many fish that we were actually whipped by day's end, and what day's they were! We would wake up to an excellent breakfast, fish until lunchtime when we would have shore lunch if we were traveling that day or perhaps something more hearty if not. Fishing and moving down river would resume after and last until we stopped at that nights camp / fishing hole, where we would have dinner, and as I said earlier, fish after if you wish!

Everybody owes it to themselves to try one of these trips, and when you do, it surely will be fondly burned into your memory until your end of days. So figure out what fish you want to target, sign up for one of their killer trip's and have a great time! I will be returning again and again to make more of those memories with Alaska Rainbow Adventures, they run an awesome program.

Overview of Alaska Float Fishing Trip

Premier Alaska float fishing trip…Imagine seven days beyond all boundaries, floating through 100 miles of exclusive Alaskan outback while you experience some of the finest fly fishing on this planet. Using 16 foot rafts with custom frames and floor boards, a personal, licensed guide will take a maximum of 2 guests per boat.  You will be floating the famous Chosen River.

You will camp in peaceful solitude with superior accommodations each night on special selected gravel bar camp sites. Here, you will enjoy the finest of meals complete with freshly baked desserts and a prime selection of wine. You can even finish your evening with a soothing hot shower!

Alaska Float Fishing Trip

Only a select few have got to experience the true wilds of Alaska. Each trip limited to six people, with 100 miles of winding river to fish over seven days – each day brings yet a bigger smile, clearer thought, a sense of wonder and a really tired arm. An avid fisherman’s dream

This float trip is a unique and unforgettable experience! Each day the scenery changes as you travel down this magnificent river in 16 foot rafts with custom built rowing frames and floor boards. There are two anglers per boat with a guide rowing and positioning you for casting towards the banks and pockets.

Your guide will make frequent stops during the days float to allow you to wade and fish breaks, pockets and other productive backwater. In the evenings they select camps in prime fish habitat which allows guests to wade and fish from sun-up to sundown, which in July is 20 hours per day!

Test your skills on these amazing species with your well seasoned fishing guides:  All excellent equipment is supplied

Leopard Rainbow Trout – Arctic Char – Dolly Varden – Giant Kings, Chum, Pink, Sockeye and Silver Salmon – Grayling and Lake Trout

Season:  July through early September

Your guides are all fully certified, licensed, highly skilled and well-seasoned in the Alaskan outback. They all love fishing and Alaska and have a desire to share it with others. You will rotate guides every day so that each guest will have the opportunity to fish with each guide. After the evening’s meal the guides are all available for tips on castings or tying patterns for the next encounters.

Your custom camps will be set up and attended by a professional staff.  You will awed and amazed by the gourmet meals and impressive wine list.  Not your ordinary tent camp

You will camp in peaceful solitude with superior accommodations each night on special- selected gravel bars surrounded by phenomenal fishing. Here you will enjoy hearty meals, fresh-baked Dutch oven desserts, and a selection of wines. Top off the evening with a hot propane shower before settling into your spacious tent custom-built with comfortable cots & sleeping pads. The tents are roomy 6 person rated outfitter tents for each 2 guests.

The spacious 16’ x 16’ cook tent is complete with propane powered stoves, ovens and BBQ’s. From the most durable drifting equipment to the impressive camp and meals, they spare no effort to make their six guests feel like nobles in the most remote settings.

Guests need to bring their own waders, boots and sleeping bags. Most guests bring their own rods & reels. They do have some good backup gear if needed and can loan fly rods if needed. They suggest you purchase a special box of flies for the Chosen River to best be prepared which is extra.

Arrive in Bethel, AK the day before your trip begins and spend the night. The next day, Day 1 of your trip, you will catch an early float plane from Bethel to camp. Upon arrival, you will get settled and start fishing.

On Day 7, your last day, you will be taken out of the water at Quinhagak around 1 PM and fly by Turbo Cessna Caravan back to Bethel. We suggest booking an early evening flight out of Bethel to Anchorage. You can choose to continue on home that night on the red eye or spend the night in Anchorage and head home the following day.

Bethel Arrival & Overnight:

Arrive Bethel, Alaska.  The outfitter has made arrangements with a local lodge and the float plane company to provide you with meet & greet service at the Bethel airport upon arrival and they will transport you to their lodge for your first night stay. Most guests just order some take out for dinner from local places in Bethel delivered to the lodge as they prep their river bags that evening. The following morning they will provide you a continental breakfast before taking you to your early scenic Beaver float plane flight to the headwaters of the Chosen River.

Bethel now has a new fitness center where guests can get a hot shower and towel and even take a swim in the indoor heated pool after coming off a 7 float trip while they wait for the Alaska Air jet back to Anchorage.

If you must communicate with home, we suggest that you take a Satellite phone.

What People Are Saying About Us

alaska fishing float trips

Everything about the trip was great! The lodge was wonderful, the people couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful and the fishing was unbelievable! I hooked the largest rainbow my guide had seen only to have it break off right at the bank!😢One of the guests that had been coming for 22 years was quite a fisherman. He had phenomenal days every day!  Lots of fun to watch. ( not without just a wee bit of envy!! 😂) As you had mentioned, we met two groups who come every year (corporate groups) for over 20 years and one couple who has been there two years and rebooked for next year.  John, Dallas, TX

“Thank you for making the “dove” hunt happen. We really enjoyed it the past three years. Thanks also for the shooting contest because George now has his own gun! He looks forward to using it for many, many hunts and years. Thank you for your support and inspiration.”

Jim, Birmingham, AL

“I cant begin to thank you for putting together such a great trip…Most of all, what I really appreciated was how organized the whole trip was and all the information that you provided in advance. I really felt prepared and knowing what to expect at each step of the trip was really helpful.”

Three friends and I spent a great week float fishing the Salmon and Aniak Rivers in Alaska. Guides Todd and James were wonderful. Great food, excellent fishing, and comfortable equipment. A perfect trip with viewings of bears, moose, beaver and plenty of fish on our trip.

Ron Klopfenstein – 14/08/2019

This was a great salmon fishing trip in Alaska. The peace and quiet was fantastic. The fly-in aspect really enhanced it. Great fishing, and floating down the river was wonderful. What an adventure! My wife doesn’t even fish that much and she thought this is one of the favorite family vacations we have done.

Stan Masneri – 10/10/2020

We did a 14 day-95 mile unguided float on the Kwethluk River in Alaska. All-in-all a very smooth and seamless operation. Everyone we dealt with from the owners to the pilots were very helpful.

There's a reason I keep booking this steelhead fishing trip!

I expected big trout on this trip based on all the stories I've read over the years, and I was not disappointed! I broke my own personal best rainbow trout record at least SIX times on this trip , with the biggest being a 16 pound beauty.

I will be going again soon!

The Fly Shop® is not in the insurance business, but we recommend Travel Guard coverage as a service with a desire to see your best interests protected. It is impossible to know when an unfortunate situation (loss of luggage, fly rods, illness in the family, or an accident) may occur. However, such things can and do happen, and this insurance can provide a means of recourse against non-refundable financial losses. • Travel Insurance Information

Seasons on the Chosen River

These floats take place during the months of July and August. For those wanting great early season mouse and streamer fishing for the river's infamous leopard rainbow trout, lots of sea-run dollies and , and even a shot at some king salmon and chums, July is ideal timing. Once August comes around, the early season salmon (kings, chums and sockeyes) are on their spawning beds, and most of the other gamefish in the river are stacked in behind them in shallow water, eating

their eggs. This time of year the trout, dolly and fishing is phenomenally productive, primarily dead-drifting single egg patterns, nymph-style. As later August approaches, fishing white streamers that resemble chunks of drifting, decomposing salmon flesh also become quite effective, as do the mouse flies again; this late season is probably the single best time to target the largest trout in the river. As well, August marks the best silver salmon fishing, a guest favorite for their aggressiveness to a fly, and acrobatic fighting tactics.

Getting to the Chosen River

On the day preceding the start of your float trip, you will need to make arrangements to arrive at the Alaskan Bush town of Bethel. There are several flights a day into Bethel from Anchorage - any one of them will work, as you'll need to overnight in town anyway. Upon booking, will make reservations at Papa Bear Adventures' Lakeside Lodge in Bethel,

where you will overnight. The cost of this lodging is not included in the package - you may pay the B&B directly upon arrival with credit card, check or cash. Lakeside Lodge will know you are coming - upon arrival in Bethel there will be a representative from Papa Bear Adventures Air Taxi (the flight service that will fly you out the following day to begin your float trip) waiting for you, and will transfer you to the hotel. You will still need to pay for this room (typically less than $100), as it is not a part of your package price. Should they be full, they will find another B&B in Bethel and book you a room – this will cost considerably more, normally between $150-$200. On the morning of your arrival to the river, Papa Bear Air Taxi will pick you up at the Lakeside Lodge and drive you to where your charter flight is scheduled to depart at approximately 9:00 a.m. In the unlikely event of marginal weather, the flight will be delayed until it is safe to fly. Upon arrival at the upper reaches of the Kanektok (Pegati Lake, the headwaters), you'll be loaded into top quality rafts with custom built floorboards and rowing frames, and begin fishing immediately. You'll split your day between casting to the banks - with your guide keeping you in position with the oars - and wading some of the most productive riffles and runs. Remember, days are long here at this time of year, and each night's campsite is chosen to offer prime fishing for anyone wishing to extend their fishing day after dinner, and before breakfast! For the next week, you'll be floating through some of the most wild, beautiful country Alaska has to offer, catching rainbows, Dolly Varden, , arctic char and whichever of the seasonal salmon that are migrating- often some combination of kings, chums, silvers, sockeyes or pinks . Each night the crew will have your "sandbar chalet" (top notch, comfortable tents) assembled and waiting. After a hot shower, you'll be treated to the incredible Dutch oven cooking and California wine selection that are a hallmark of these floats. Following dinner, relax, enjoy the incredible country all around you, or re-wader and catch a bunch more fish- it's up to you! On the seventh day, you'll reach a native village (Quinhagak) at the terminal end of the float, where you'll catch a truck shuttle (at approximately 1 pm) to the local airport. Here there will be a charter flight with Papa Bear Adventures waiting (included in the package price), to fly you back to the town of Bethel, departing Quinhagak about 1:30 pm. You'll need to have arranged a commercial flight from Bethel to Anchorage in advance, departing Bethel in the early evening. You may choose to overnight in Anchorage, or connect to a "redeye" flight back home.

Anglers will want to start each day with two rods rigged and ready to go in the boat each morning - one with a mouse to skate off the banks, and another with either a streamer to swing through deeper runs, or an egg pattern to dead drift behind spawning salmon ...all for trout, dollies and . Lower down on the river, switch the mouse rod over to a fly suited for whichever salmon is present.

What Makes This Destination Special and Unique?

• Small, intimate groups – usually 6 people a week – make this a perfect opportunity for inclusive groups of anglers and families that want a private fly fishing experience. You have the majority of the river all to yourself each day, meaning lots of aggressive fish eager to take your flies that haven’t been heavily fished or pressured. • Using their 16 foot rafts with custom frames and floor boards, a personal, licensed guide will fish and floata maximum of 2 guests per boat. The rafts used are comfortable to sit in, and fish from. At the end of each day you will be tired of hooking fish, but not from sitting in a cramped boat. • Depending on the season, you can test your skills on as many as ten species of fish, including Leopard Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char, Dolly Varden, Giant Kings, chum, sockeye, pinks and Silver salmon , Grayling and Lake Trout. A great way to learn the techniques needed to catch the different species of fish, and to catch some species that are new to you, in beautiful surroundings…all with family or friends, or those that will be friends by week’s end. • You will camp in peaceful solitude with superior accommodations each night on specially selected gravel bar camp sites. Here, you will enjoy the finest of meals complete with freshly baked desserts and a prime selection of wine. You can even finish your evening with a soothing hot shower! This is about as comfortable as camping “glamping” can possibly be, far off the beaten path, away from crowds. What better way to reconnect with yourself, friends and family? • Outstanding Alaska float fishing program with one of the top outfitters in Alaska; these folks are pros with many years of operating experience in Alaska. You are in very capable hands - the float staff will take care of the logistics of the trip, all you have to do is fish to your heart’s content.

Our trip with Fish and Float Alaska was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Our group of 9 had some highly experienced outdoorsmen and some scared city slickers all together. This outfit did a superb job accommodating all levels of skill and experience. We all felt very challenged and accomplished by the end.... Oh yea and the food was really good too btw. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Fish and Float Alaska is an amazing, well organized company for your Alaska Adventure. They were helpful in choosing the river for the type of fish we were interested in catching. Alaska has so many guide companies to choose from but there are not many that go above and beyond like this one. I highly recommend!!

Alaska Rainbow Adventures is the ultimate choice for your next fishing adventure in Alaska! With more than 30 years of experience in providing guided Alaska float fishing trips, we are among the pioneers in the field. Our world-class service and highly skilled team of experienced guides have earned us an impeccable reputation that is unmatched in the industry.

We hold a special use permit that allows us to offer the best start dates for float fishing trips on the Goodnews River, which is one of the best fishing rivers in Alaska. The river's shorter length of only sixty miles provides more opportunities for wading than others in the area and is still large enough to float comfortably, making it the perfect destination for a Alaska float fishing adventure.

The Goodnews River is home to all five species of Pacific Salmon, Arctic Char, sea-run Dolly Varden, and resident Leopard Rainbows and Grayling, making it a paradise for anglers. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, we will tailor our services to suit your unique requirements and provide you with a memorable fishing trip.

July is the best time to experience the most varied of fishing, with King, Chum, Sockeye, and Pink Salmon. Pink Salmon returns in even-numbered years. When August arrives, Coho or Silver Salmon arrives, and they are available until September. Late July offers the perfect opportunity to catch all five species of Pacific Salmon. The Goodnews has plenty of big fish, including big Leopard Rainbow Trout, Sea Run Dolly Varden, and plenty of Arctic Grayling.

The Goodnews River traverses the 4.7 million-acre Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, and we encourage our guests to respect the refuge's natural heritage, resources, and the people who reside there. Our trips are designed to ensure minimal impact back-country adventures that are both educational and enjoyable for our guests. So, if you're looking for an unforgettable fishing experience in Alaska, the Goodnews River should be your top pick!

We maintain a 2-1 guest-to-guide ratio in the rafts with front and rear seating, ensuring you receive personalized attention from our experienced guides. We encourage group effort and participation, such as unloading your bags from the rafts and setting up and taking down your tent. However, we can provide that service for a small additional cost. Anglers can rotate guides daily, enabling everyone to fish with each staff member if desired.

We want you to have the best time possible, which is why we've made sure to offer comforts that will make your journey truly unforgettable. Our spacious tents can comfortably accommodate two anglers, and every tent is equipped with chairs and comfortable cots, ensuring that you have a relaxing retreat after a long day of fishing. We also provide a lavatory facility with a privacy tent, along with limited showers.

We're excited to let you know that our team has upgraded our custom-built dining tent and screened area that can comfortably accommodate the entire group for dining or as a gathering place. We understand that the weather can be unpredictable, but don't worry, all our tents are made in Alaska to withstand extreme weather conditions, ensuring that you stay warm, safe, and dry throughout your stay.

Don't settle for anything less than the best. Book your next fishing adventure with Alaska Rainbow Adventures today and experience the thrill of fishing in Alaska like never before!

FLOAT FISHING TRIPS – CHENA RIVER

Quick details.

  • Hour Glass Duration: 6-10 hours
  • Water Fishing Time: Half-Day - 3 hours | Full Day - 6-7 hours
  • Clock Tour Schedule: 8:00 am - 2:00 pm & 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm (Half-day Trip) | 8:00 am - 6:00 pm (Full-day)

Two person minimum

Fish and float along the wild and scenic chena river, half-day fishing float trip.

Our Half day trip out of Fairbanks is mostly geared towards spin fishing for Arctic grayling. A 3-4 mile float trip on the Chena River provides adventure and a great fishing experience for even the novice fisherman, and most certainly the wilderness viewing enthusiast. This tour will quickly get you into an off the grid river country within one of the largest State Parks in the Northern Region of Alaska. You can fish and observe a river country and nature that otherwise would only be accessible by bush plane. This affordable tour is a fully outfitted excursion and it includes a 80 mile round trip shuttle starting from your Fairbanks Hotel doorstep. If you are on a short visit to Fairbanks this classic Alaskan float trip will be a highlight, and the fishing for the fabled “Sailfish of the North” the Arctic Grayling certainly will be as well.

Full Day Fishing Float Trip

On our full day float fishing trip you will enjoy a combination of float fishing and more/ample time of wade fishing on the Chena River. This longer trip will offer you even greater opportunities to catch one of the sought after Chena River trophy Arctic grayling that can be 16-18 inches in length and are known for their oversized and colorful dorsal fins. A trip that offers both, beginner or expert a fantastic spin or  fly fishing experience (~7.5h fishing) in the head waters of this clear gold colored river! On this trip we will set you up with either fly fishing or spin fishing gear.

If you are an avid fly fisherman we do recommend booking either this full day float trip or our Delta Clearwater Trophy grayling trip! If you just want to tag along with your fishing husband or friends we can combine this tour with our Scenic Wilderness River Float/Raft tour and you can join as a non-fishing guest at a lower rate!

While the Chena River is a blue ribbon, catch & release  Arctic grayling fishery, it also has a run of King salmon (chinook) during July and Chum salmon in July/August. The fishing for salmon is closed in the head waters that we float, however during this salmon run the fishing with beads for Arctic grayling can be phenomenal and it’s a spectacle in itself to see these migrating salmon spawn after their almost 1,000 mile journey up the wild Yukon and Tanana Rivers! Its something you will always remember!

The Chena River is a class 1-2 river that provides for a gentle relaxing float through the Chena- and White Mountains ranges. The Chena River State Recreation area is home to wildlife such as moose, beaver, bald & golden eagles, water fowl, and wolf. Also grizzly and black bears inhabit this country, though seldom seen.

We choose our fishing float trips and wade fishing tours to be different on any given day, depending on current conditions and our local knowledge to guarantee you the best to date fishing available in Fairbanks. This can also include switching to the Chatanika River a very similar and intimate clear water river to maximize your experience. All our fishing float trips are limited to 4 anglers per boat.

Tour Schedule: Our tour times include hotel pick ups/transportation (80miles round trip), boat handling, and outfitting you for this tour. You will be on the river for about 3h on a half day tour and 6-7h on a full day tour (depending on water flow rates). If you choose to drive yourself you meet us at Compeau trailhead parking lot (MP29 Chena Hotsprings Road) at 9am (half or full day tour) or 5pm (half day evening tour), and you will be off the river at 12:30-1pm or 8:30-9pm (morning/evening half day tour respectively) or 5pm on a full day tour. For any more questions call our office at 1 800 819 0737.

Online Purchase Instructions:  Buying a fishing license online is a simple process: Each participating Angler 16 years or older in age, is required to carry a valid Alaskan fishing license with them while fishing (no exceptions). You will only need a 1 day (24h) sport fishing license. You do NOT need a king salmon stamp. Day licenses are $15. After buying your license online you receive an email from Alaska Fish and Game (ADFG) with the electronic (pdf) copy of your license. You can also still print out the license or you can simply save them on your phone. Be aware:  It is your responsibility to acquire and provide a valid Alaskan fishing license when asked by a guide, wild life trooper (game warden), park ranger, or any other legal authority. Failing to provide the fishing license can result in being denied participation in a tour, being fined, or denied the future ability to acquire a valid fishing license in Alaska.

Fly-In Fishing Trips With All Alaska Outdoors

All Alaska Outdoors Lodge is an angler’s paradise. Situated on an incredible lake fed by crystal clear snow-fed streams and surrounded by stunning mountain peaks, this is a place where dreams are made real. This isn’t your typical fishing at the reservoir outside of town. Here, we offer several remote, fly-in fishing trips and packages. These guided fishing trips take you deep into the Alaskan wilderness, and give you access to some of the most robust fish populations in the world.

No better way to understand the Ultimate Expedition Fly In fishing trip or what a Week long experience at All Alaska Outdoors can provide. Watch these amazing videos for some real entertainment.

Experience The “Ultimate Expedition” With Our Team

Alaska isn’t called “The Great Land” for no reason, and there may be no better way to explore this land than with our fly-in fishing trips. These trips will take you over rugged mountains, past active volcanoes, and next to spectacular glaciers to get you close to the remote and robust fish populations that Alaska is so well known for among anglers.

We know when and where to take you to find incredible Salmon, Dolly Varden, Grayling, Northern Pike, and more. Depending on when in the season you visit us, we’ll take you to the best fishing spots South Central Alaska. Also, due to the nature of remote travel and fishing, there’s always a possibility of encountering other wildlife, like the native brown and black bears. Our fly-in trips are a once in a lifetime experience, so book yours today.

The Ultimate Expedition is the premier fly in fishing trip that we offer. On this trip the Plane, Pilot and Guide stay with you for the entire day. It is a multi location trip. The species we will target will vary depending on the season. At times limit catches of salmon will be available, though the gist of this trip is experiential, and it should not be booked with strictly catch and kill in mind. This is an excellent trip for those wishing to fly fish, whether experienced or not. Spinning gear will also be provided for those not wishing to tackle the task of fly fishing.

Parties of four or five will be exclusive to your group. (Parties of five will have weight restrictions of no more than 1000 pound total) parties of 1,2 or 3 persons will be combined with other small parties.

Float Plane Fly-In Fishing Trip

Our float plane fly-in trips are an excellent choice for a family vacation and anyone wanting to explore remote river fishing. Depending on what part of the season your trip is, our float plane can take you to either Wolverine Creek or the Kustatan River. From mid-June to late-July, the Wolverine Creek trips offer fantastic Sockeye Salmon fishing on this small, clear creek. This destination is great for children as there is a lot of wildlife to see including bear viewing from a safe distance.

From late July, great fishing can still be found in Wolverine Creek and things also start to pick up at the Kustatan River. This fishery offers incredible Silver Salmon fishing that you can catch with light tackle and spin rods. However, if you prefer fly fishing, just bring your 7-or-8 weight fly rod to enjoy a great day of fishing.

Crescent Lake Fly-In Fishing Trip & Bear Viewing

Crescent Lake is one of our favorite mountain lakes in Alaska. While it may well be one of the most beautiful places on earth, this lake also provides a healthy brown bear population and great fishing for Lake Trout. Later in the year, the fishing for Dollies and Silvers also makes this a popular Alaska ecotour package. You’ll also have the chance to check out Alaskan brown bears, many with cubs, in comfortable eighteen-foot aluminum boats. This is one of the best trips we offer for Alaska bear viewing, and it’s affordable!

With trips on some of the big-named rivers including the Goodnews, Alagnak, Togiak, American, Moraine Creek, Lake Creek, and Talachulitna, each trip is custom-tailored to focus on what you would like to accomplish during your visit. You will have the option to choose from three different float trip packages during your stay. Each package offers different levels of service and amenities on your float. On some waters, all three service levels are available, while on others, due to accessibility and logistics, only what is called the “Intimate Rivers” trips are offered.

Fisherman’s Deluxe Package This package features a two-to-one guest-to-guide ratio, with two anglers and their guide floating the river in custom-built drifter rafts. A separate gear boat precedes you downriver, carrying much of the gear and setting up camp before you arrive.

Standard Deluxe Package The Standard Deluxe option offers the same excellent accommodations outlined in the Fisherman’s Deluxe, but with a two or three-to-one guest-to-guide ratio.  With this package, there is no gear boat and everyone helps set up camp.
