How to set up and customize a new Twitter account

• You can set up a new Twitter account from the website or mobile app. 
• First, Twitter will show you how to register your account in five simple steps. 
• Twitter will then prompt you to add a photo, bio, interests, and people to follow.  

Setting up a Twitter account for business or personal use is an easy process – even though it may seem daunting at first. 

Twitter provides a registration and onboarding wizard to guide you through each step that must be completed. You can even skip some sections and return to them later. 

Here's how to get started setting up a Twitter account. 

How to set up a Twitter account 

Visit the Twitter website or download the Twitter app on your iPhone, iPad , or Android . Click Sign Up to get started. Whether you're signing up from the website or mobile app, the steps are the same. 

Register your Twitter account 

1. On the first screen, you'll enter a name for your account as well as your birthdate and a phone number or email address. The name you enter will become your account username, commonly referred to as a handle or username — which you can always change . The birthdate and phone number (or email) will be kept private. Click Next to continue.

2. On the next screen, you'll need to choose if you want to "track where you see Twitter content across the web." Checking this option enables Twitter to serve personalized ads based on your online and offline activities. See Twitter's terms of service for more information. No matter what you choose now, you can change your selection anytime from account settings. Hit Next after you've checked or unchecked the box. 

3. Confirm your name, email or phone number, and birthdate by clicking Sign Up . 

4. You'll be asked to enter a verification code sent to either your phone number or email address before you can continue through the registration process. Enter the code and hit Next . 

5. Finally, you'll be asked to create a unique password for your Twitter account. It must be 8 characters or more. 

Create your Twitter profile

Next, you'll be prompted to upload a profile picture. Profile pictures should be no larger than 400x400 pixels . You can choose to skip this step if you like.

Enter a short bio for your Twitter profile. This information will be publicly available. You can skip this section if you like.

Select your interests and who to follow

Once you've set up a profile, you'll be prompted to search for topics that interest you. You can search or click topics you're interested in reading about. Selections in this step may influence the topics and users Twitter suggests for you in the future. 

Next, you'll be shown a list of suggested Twitter users to follow. Scroll through the list and click the Follow button next to any users you wish to follow. You can skip this step if you prefer.

Finally, you'll be prompted to choose your notification preferences. Make a selection to complete the registration and set-up process. You may update your selection any time. 

Begin using your Twitter home page

After completing registration and setting up your profile, you'll be taken to your Twitter home page. You'll see recent posts, or tweets, from the users you follow. 

Additional account options and settings are available from the sidebar menu on the left side of the website, or by tapping the icon of three horizontal lines on the mobile app.

Even with a change of ownership and identity (now called X), Twitter remains one of the most powerful and popular social media platforms out there. The company offers feature-rich mobile apps and a web version to browse the feed and the latest trends in your region. While it’s optimized for most browsers, many have complained about Twitter acting up on Safari. If you have faced the same, here are the best ways to fix Twitter not loading in Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Note: Twitter recently went through a rebranding. The platform is now called ‘X’. However, we will refer to it as ‘Twitter’ as most people are familiar with the original name only.

1. Reload the Webpage

Twitter not loading in Safari can be due to a sketchy internet connection. Once you connect to a robust Wi-Fi network, try reloading the Twitter home in Safari. Click the refresh icon in the Safari address bar at the top and try again.

2. Try Private Window

You can temporarily switch to a private window in Safari and try browsing your Twitter feed again. When you switch to a private window, you need to sign in with your account details again.

1. Launch Safari and click File at the top.

2. Select New Private Window .

2. Open recent tabs from the bottom and select tabs.

3. Select Private , visit Twitter, and sign in with your account.

3. Clear Browsing Data

A corrupt Safari cache can cause issues with Twitter. It’s time to clear Twitter data on Safari and try again. Here’s what you need to do.

1. Open Safari and click the same in the menu bar. Select Settings .

2. Move to the Privacy tab and select Manage Website Data .

3. Search for Twitter at the top and click Remove All .

On Safari for iPhone or iPad, there is no way to selectively delete Twitter data. You need to clear the entire browsing data.

1. Open Settings on iPhone. Scroll to Safari .

2. Select Clear History and Website Data .

Confirm the same from the following menu.

4. Remove Safari Extensions

One of the Safari extensions may interfere with Twitter. You should remove unnecessary Safari extensions and try again.

1. Go to Safari Settings on Mac (check the steps above).

2. Move to the Extensions menu. Select an extension and click Uninstall .

1. Open Safari Settings on iPhone or iPad.

2. Select Extensions . Tap an extension and disable the same.  

5. Disable iCloud Private Relay

As a part of iCloud+ and Apple One subscriptions, the company offers Private Relay to hide your browsing data and IP address from trackers and websites. It uses a proxy server to re-route the traffic. When one of such servers faces an outage, Twitter may not work in Safari. You should disable Private Relay.

1. Click the Apple icon and open System Settings .

2. Select your account and open iCloud .

3. Click Private Relay and disable the same.

1. Open Settings and go to your profile.

2. Select iCloud and open Private Relay .

3. Disable the option from the following menu.

Try loading Twitter in Safari, and it should work as expected.

6. Turn off VPN

An active VPN connection on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad may cause issues with Twitter in Safari. You should disable a VPN network and try again.

7. Check Twitter Status

If Twitter servers are down, you may face issues with loading the same in Safari. You can visit Downdetector and search for Twitter to confirm the same. You need to wait for Twitter to resolve server-side issues.

8. Update System OS

Apple updates Safari with system builds. You can install the latest software version and load Twitter without any issues.

1. Go to Mac System Settings .

2. Select General and click Software Update .

2. Go to General > System Update and install the latest iOS build.

9. Try Another Browser

Does Safari still give trouble with Twitter? You need to ditch it and go with Google Chrome , Microsoft Edge, or Firefox on Mac and iPhone. You can export your Safari history and bookmarks, and your preferred extensions are available on rival browsers too.

10. Your Account Is Restricted  

If you don’t follow or break Twitter guidelines, the company may raise a flag and restrict your account. Twitter ban usually lasts for 48 hours to a week. When your Twitter account is restricted, you can’t perform basic actions. You need to wait for the account restriction to lift.  

Get Back to Your Twitter Feed

Twitter not loading or working in Safari can confuse you. Since Twitter has killed third-party apps with the lack of API access, you have no option but to go with the official website only.

This new layout is better IMO, but there are a few other problems that kinda bug me

Unpopular opinion, but this new layout is better. I don’t even remember the old layout since I’m not even a long-time iOS user (this is my first iPhone). I looked up the old layout or the “cascade” layout and it looks more painful to me than the new one. By the looks of it, it’s definitely easier to miss a tab you’re looking for in the older version, and then you will have to spend like 10 more minutes scrolling to find the tab you’re looking for. Sure, it may be “faster”, but it’s definitely harder to find the certain tab you’re looking for if most of the tabs are only viewable by a little area at the top. This app is mostly fine except for a few problems I get from time to time. Today I’m having a problem where I was trying to look at some Google images and then I tried to look at more but it was just stuck on loading. It wouldn’t even finish loading. This happened only on like 2 searches thankfully though. I’d probably give it a 95% since it has some minor lags and problems.

Your Underrated Prince, Safari

In my humble opinion, Safari is the underrated king among multiple web browsers on the market. I was a PC devotee from ‘95 to ‘16, since then, it’s been all Tim Cook 🍎 all the time. My only regret is not purchasing a smartphone back in ‘07 from Steve Jobs. Presently, I own an iPhone 6s Plus in rose gold (2016), iPad Mini (2016), iPad Pro (2019) & MacBook (2018) in rose gold with matching Beats By Dre headphones. All four are set up with Safari, not Chrome, TOR, Brave, Edge, or DDGo. I love the ability to quickly save favorites, add to reading list & share content to other platforms. My favorites are alphabetized for quick reference & the reading list keeps all articles & pages in chronological order for quick recall. Also, I learned Safari quickly because it’s extremely user friendly. The browser helped my navigation of Apple when switching from PC. I’ll admit, learning MacBook isn’t easy, but, Safari keeps things familiar for me on the desktop. When lost, just go back to Safari & start over. It’s surprising no one in tech media mentions Safari more often as a go to source for navigating the internet. Chrome is the reigning king of, Land Of Browsers, without an heir apparent. I nominate Safari as the prince with future king potential. Citizens of Land Of Browsers don’t like their chrome-plated dirty laundry aired, sold or tracked.

I have been using this for years and had no problems with it. I ran over my phone with my lawn mower and was without my phone for over a year due to having to fight with the insurance company. However when I finally got a lawyer involved the insurance company finally replaced it for me. I DID not lose anything and I mean anything. I like the cards better because they are easier to clear out. You have to back everything up to your cloud every day or every other day so that you don’t have to worry about losing anything. As I always make sure that I back everything up just in case. It is not apples fault if you lose your any of your information it is yours for not backing up your phone to your cloud. So most of the people who write bad reviews either don’t back up or they just don’t or they just don’t care. Apple doesn’t charge a lot to add more space to your cloud so there is no reason why you can’t back you things. This is better than anything that google has. By far. If you want your information used by third parties then use google’s and quit complaining. You can change your browser in safari so that you don’t have to use them get with it you bad reviews and learn how to use safari.

If that's the case you may not want notifications or a native app cluttering up your homescreen real estate. Safari works just fine for Twitter. They've actually got a mobile website that allows you to navigate around quickly and easily.

You can tweet, reply, check notifications, view profiles, and do pretty much the same things you'd be able to do from the computer based version of Twitter straight from your iPad. I have noticed the mobile web version of Twitter is a bit laggy at times. I recommend downloading the native Twitter app for free over using Safari if you plan on browsing Twitter regularly.

Whether this is your first account or you want to make a second, private account, you'll be able to do so in just a few minutes. You can use your email or phone number to create an account. How do you make a new Twitter account?

Go https://twitter.com/i/flow/signup in a web browser. Enter a name, number/email, and date of birth to begin. On the mobile app, tap "Create account," then enter a name, number/email, and date of birth to begin.

• You can also select Sign up with Google or Sign up with Apple to login with those accounts instead.

• If the phone number or email address is already being used, you'll see a warning.

• Check the box to allow tracking, or uncheck the box to disable it.

• If you see a red x , revise the information in the field.

• If you entered your own, click Next .

• Allow notifications (optional). You can click Allow notifications to stay up-to-date on activity, or click Skip for now to set it later.
• Select three topics of interest from the list, then click Next .

• Tap your profile picture in the top-left corner.
• Tap the person+ icon in the top-right of the panel.
• Tap Create a new account .

• Toggle the box on to allow tracking, or toggle the box off to disable it.

• If you entered your own, tap Next .

• Allow contacts (optional). Tap Continue to receive the pop-up menu. Tap OK to allow X to access your contacts or Don't Allow to decline.
• Select three topics of interest from the list, then tap Next .
• Follow at least one X user from the list, then tap Next .

There are many great Twitter clients for the iPhone 6S and its siblings, but we still love the free official one (known as Tweetie before it was bought by Twitter), because under the simple exterior there's a huge amount of power and a staggering number of shortcuts to help you better manage your tweeting.

We'll showcase some of the most useful features that lots of people miss, as well as all the essentials, all to help you get more out of this ace app. Remember, in iOS 8 and iOS 9 you have native Twitter support – just go to Settings > Twitter and if you haven't already got the Twitter app installed you can simply tap Install to get it, then sign in or sign up.

1. Swipe for quick actions

On the iPhone 5 and later, Twitter includes controls directly beneath each tweet, but the buttons are small – if you want bigger buttons and more options, swipe sideways over a tweet.

Here's what the different buttons do.

Reply to tweet: Tap this icon to reply to the tweet you've swiped on.

Retweet: Share this tweet with your followers; you can either retweet it untouched, or quote it and add your own words as well.

Likes: Use the heart icon to 'like' tweets that you especially enjoy. You'll find all the tweets you've marked in this way by tapping Me and scrolling down to the Likes option. Twitter has recently replaced the star icon with a heart icon, and changed the name from Favorites to Likes , so if you've been using Twitter before, you may notice the difference.

More: Tap this three-dot button to bring up five further options. Mute enables you to remove the current tweeter's posts from your timeline without unfollowing them. Block or Report lets you block the tweeter and optionally file a report about inappropriate material.

Mail Tweet and Copy Link to Tweet make it easy to share the tweet, while Send to Reading List adds any links in the tweet to your Safari Reading List for catching up with later.

To check for new tweets from those you're following, drag the tweet stream downwards and then let go.

3. Search and Compose

You can search Twitter by word, hashtag or username. Tap the quill icon to compose a new tweet.

4. Notifications

Tap this to view all relevant updates, such as those about new followers and replies to your tweets.

This is your profile area. It's laid out in a logical fashion that's broadly simple to navigate, with easy access to your profile, tweets, photos and favourited tweets.

One feature hidden away are any lists you've set up – tap the Settings button (the cog icon) to access these. Tap Edit profile to make changes to your profile, as shown on the left.

Tap Cancel when writing a tweet and you can save it as a draft, so you can go back to edit and/or post it later.

Messages that fail to send are also saved to Drafts. Access previous drafts by tapping the Compose button, then tapping the quill button next to the Photos button.

When you've finished typing your message, simply tap the Tweet button to publish your thoughts to the rest of the world.

Tap this button to tag your tweet with your current location. It's a good idea to tag all tweets – it gives great context to them, especially when you're at a particular event.

9. Add photo

Tap the photo button to either take a snap with your camera (tap the blue camera button) or choose an existing photo from your library – just scroll down until you find the photo you want to insert.

10. Autosuggest

Twitter hooks into iOS's keyboard auto-suggestion feature, so as you type you'll see suggestions appear, allowing you to speed up your data entry and providing your fingers and thumbnails with some light relief!

11. Notifications

The Twitter app can send you Push notifications when someone mentions you in a tweet or sends you a DM, even when the app's not open. To change what kind of alerts you get from Twitter, go to Settings > Notification Centre > Twitter.

• Select System Preferences in the Dock or from Apple menu, then select Internet Accounts > X (formerly Twitter) > Next > Sign in .
• To use Shared Links sidebar, select Show sidebar  icon, then select the Shared Links tab ( @ symbol).

This article explains how to add X (formerly Twitter) to the Safari Shared Links sidebar so you can view tweets and links from those you follow on X—and retweet. Instructions in this article apply to Safari in macOS Sierra (10.12), OS X Yosemite (10.10), OS X Mavericks (10.9), and OS X Mountain Lion (10.8).

Set up the Shared Links Sidebar

By default, the Bookmark and Reading List icons appear at the top of the Safari sidebar, giving you one-click access to a selection of useful links. Before you can access the Shared Links sidebar, however, you must configure it in System Preferences.

For the Safari sidebar to work with your X feeds, you must add your X account to the Internet Accounts list. To set up the Shared Links sidebar, complete the following steps:

Open System Preferences by selecting the System Preferences icon in the Dock or selecting System Preferences from the Apple menu.

In System Preferences, select Internet Accounts .

The Internet Accounts preferences window lists the internet accounts you've already set up on your Mac (such as your iCloud account ) on the left. On the right, it lists the internet account types that the operating system supports, such as Microsoft Exchange and LinkedIn.

Apple updates the internet account type list with each macOS update. So, what you see may change over time.

From the list on the right, select X .

In the window that appears, type your X user name and password, and then select Next .

An explanation of what happens when you allow OS X to sign you into your X account appears:

• You can tweet and post photos and links to X.
• Links from your X timeline appear in Safari.
• Apps can work with your X account (with your permission).

You can disable Contacts syncing and prevent specific apps on your Mac from accessing your X account.

Select Sign In to enable X access from Safari.

Your X account is now configured to allow OS X/macOS to use the service.

Close System Preferences.

Use the Shared Links Sidebar

With X set up as an internet account, you can use the Shared Links feature in Safari. To do so, complete the following steps:

Open Safari.

Select the Show sidebar icon.

At the top of the sidebar, three tabs appear: Bookmarks, Reading List, and Shared Links.

In the sidebar, select the Shared Links tab (the @ symbol).

The Shared Links selection list fills with tweets from your X feed.

The first time you open the Shared Links selection list, it can take a moment for Safari to pull and display the tweets.

To display the content of a shared link in a tweet, select the tweet in the Shared Links selection list.

To retweet a tweet in the Shared Links selection list, Control+select the tweet and then select Retweet .

To go to X and view a user's public account information, Control+select that user's tweet, and then select Show on twitter.com .

How to fix Twitter and other websites that won’t load in Safari

Do you ever find that websites sometimes refuse to load in Safari on your Mac, no matter how long you wait? The problem has been plaguing Twitter users in recent months, and can occur with other sites, too.

Fortunately, there’s an easy fix.

You may have already resorted to using another browser. When this problem surfaces, switching to Chrome or Edge (or anything other than Safari) can be an easy fix. But who wants to swap browsers because one website won’t load?

Another extreme solution is to clear all your Safari data . That’s quick and effective, but it means losing all your open tabs, having to log in to all your favorites sites again, and other little annoyances.

Instead, you can efficiently target only the site that isn’t loading. Here’s how to clear Safari data for just one website when it isn’t loading.

Fix websites that won’t load in Safari

Before following these steps, ensure that the problem really is just with Safari. Obviously, you should make sure your Mac is connected to the internet. Then try loading the problematic site in another browser — maybe on your iPhone or iPad — or checking its status on Downdetector .

If your connection is fine and dandy, and the site loads on another device, follow the steps below to clear its Safari data:

• Open Safari .
• Click Safari in the menu bar, then click Preferences…

• Use the search bar in the top-right corner to find saved data for the website that won’t load.

• Click Done .

Once that’s finished, you can visit the site again, and it should load without any issues … at least for now. Some users find that the problem reoccurs every few weeks with certain sites, such as Twitter. So you might need to repeat these steps later, unfortunately.

If this fix doesn’t work for you, there could be other things that are preventing the site from loading. If you use a content blocker , ensure that the site you want to visit hasn’t become inadvertently blacklisted, and try restarting Safari.

Twitter Beta for iOS Gains 'Sign in With Apple' Option

Twitter's beta for iOS has gained " Sign in With Apple " functionality, with the end goal of allowing users to create Twitter accounts using their Apple ID , but still in beta, the feature is still not fully functioning properly.

In its current phase, attempting to continue with ‌Sign in With Apple‌ may prompt some initial errors, and once through with an account made, there are some quirks. Firstly, when users use ‌Sign in With Apple‌, they aren't creating a specific password for that app or service. Instead, the app links the service to a user's ‌Apple ID‌.

Currently, with a Twitter account made with ‌Sign in With Apple‌, it's not possible to change account information such as email and more since the app asks for a password. These are technical loopholes that will get ironed out before Twitter rolls out that feature to all users.

Twitter is also testing other new features for its iOS app, including a new edge-to-edge timeline view for photos and an internal dislike button for tweet replies .

Safari won't load Twitter

I have a late 2014 iMac 5k 27-inch running macOS Big Sur v. 11.7.7.

Though my machine is no longer supported, I have thankfully continued to receive critical security updates. Unfortunately as of two of those updates ago, Safari will no longer load Twitter. I continually get a message "Seems like you lost connectivity. We'll keep retrying." And, I am not having any trouble with my wifi connection with any other site or activity.

I do not have any problem connecting to Twitter on Chrome, Firefox or Opera.

Not expecting a fix from Apple here. Any suggestions for a workaround?

Hello Harold Flax,

Since the page partially loads the navigation icons, the internet connection and Safari appears to be working properly. Something is just preventing full access to the site. Do you have any sort of 3rd party pop-up or ad blocker installed in Safari? If so, that is most likely the cause. If you do have something like that installed, try disabling it or removing it, then test out this website again.

Here's some other basics you can run through for connection issues with Safari: If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac

• Twitter Very Slow Loading in Safari Twitter just won't load, or is loading VERY slowly, in Safari 13.1. I'm running macOS 10.15.4. If I shut down Safari and restart it, then Twitter loads fine. So it seems that Safari must have some sort of memory leak or something that is causing the problem. I can load Twitter with no problems in Chrome after hours of use. But after an hour or so in Safari, Twitter stops working. But TBH, I'm finding that with every update Safari gets worse and worse. Facebook is also exceedingly slow in Safari, much faster in Chrome on the same computer. I've always preferred Safari, but it's now becoming way too frustrating to use every day, so I may have to switch to Chrome, which I loathe to do, but I'm tired with how slow and buggy Safari has become. 6320 10

Jaguar Sun , the popular Downtown Miami restaurant and bar, will close on Sunday, Aug. 25, after six years in business. The team announced the closure as they gear up to open Sunny’s Steakhouse in Little River this fall.

Jaguar Sun, known for its intimate setting in the lobby of the Alea building, has been a fixture in Miami’s dining and cocktail scene since its debut in 2018. During the pandemic, owners Carey Hynes and Will Thompson launched Sunny’s Steakhouse, an outdoor pop-up in Little River that quickly gained popularity. The success of the pop-up inspired the creation of Sunny’s Steakhouse as a permanent establishment. The team promises many menu favorites from Jaguar Sun, like corn agnolotti, and the Parker house rolls will be found on the menu at Sunny’s when it debuts later this year.

Reservations for Jaguar Sun are available on Resy through August 25. The bar area remains first-come, first-served.

For those who will miss Jaguar Sun, the team recently opened ViceVersa , an Italian aperitivo bar. The new space, a collaboration with award-winning bartender Valentino Longo, offers Italian cocktails, pizzas, and small plates.

This is the UFC 305 live blog for Mateusz Gamrot vs. Dan Hooker , the featured lightweight fight this Saturday in Perth, Australia.

A former KSW featherweight and lightweight champion, Gamrot joined UFC in 2020, dropping a tough split decision to Guram Kutateladze . Since then though, “Gamer” has been exceptional, winning seven of eight fights and rising to No. 5 in the UFC lightweight rankings. Currently on a three-fight win streak, Gamrot hopes a victory over the well-respected Hooker will finally earn him a shot at UFC gold.

Joining UFC back in 2014 a a featherweight, Hooker struggled to make much headway in the 145-pound division, but after moving up to lightweight in 2017, “The Hangman” established himself as one of the best fighters in the division, winning seven of eight to put himself in title contention. A tough string of losses to some of the best in the division followed, as did a brief and misguided foray back down to 145 pounds, but lately Hooker seems to have found his form again, winning back-to-back fights and returning to the lightweight rankings. Now, against Gamrot, Hooker has a chance to leap right back into title contention.
