Kings of LeoniHeart Radio Festival, Backstage, Day 2, Las Vegas, USA - 23 Sep 2017

Kings of Leon have followed manager Andy Mendelsohn to Full Stop Management. The band had previously been represented by Nashville-based Vector Management; Mendelsohn left the firm at the end of January. He brought with him to Full Stop client Zane Lowe, best known for his gig as the voice of BBC Radio 1 and now Beats 1 radio on Apple Music. Another client, Tom Morello (of Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave and Prophets of Rage), remained with Vector, which is headed by industry veterans Ken Levitan and Jack Rovner and is also home to Emmylou Harris, Kesha, Alison Krauss, T Bone Burnett, Peter Frampton, Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Aaron Lewis, among others.

Full Stop is the latest incarnation of Azoff Music Group and its roster includes Bon Jovi, Travis Scott, Harry Styles, Mark Ronson, John Mayer and Meghan Trainor in addition to more acts represented by Irving and Jeffrey Azoff and Brandon Creed, among others.

A story published earlier Sunday by the New York Post under the headline “Kings of Leon fire their manager of 20 years” included a statement from Vector founder Levitan. He told Page Six’s Richard Johnson: “I was with the Kings for 20 years and took them from not having a song to being one of the biggest rock bands in the world. I’m friends with them. I love those guys, and wish them the best.”

Mendelsohn was the Kings’ day-to-day manager, according to Vector, where he was employed for 17 years and worked his way up to partner. He joined the Los Angeles-based Full Stop officially on Feb. 4. In 2009, he won the Pollstar manager of the year award for his work with Kings of Leon. (Mendelsohn could not be reached for comment.)

Kings of Leon talk upcoming tour and album, 'Sex on Fire' rise to fame: 'We got shots'

T here’s a Harry Styles connection to the upcoming Kings of Leon album, but the latest music from the Southern rockers probably isn’t fit for a sushi restaurant.

Kings of Leon’s ninth album, “Can We Please Have Fun?” drops May 10. It’s the band’s first release on Capitol Records after it had called RCA home. The album’s lead single, “Mustang,” is out now. A tour to support the LP kicks off Aug. 14 in Austin, Texas, and wraps Oct. 5 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Tickets for the 26 dates across North America go on sale March 1 .

It’s also the first time Kings of Leon have collaborated with Kid Harpoon. Born Thomas Hull, he co-produced Styles’ 2022 release, “ Harry’s House ,” which won album of the year at the Grammys in 2023. Harpoon and the group began working a month before the big win.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

“I have a little bit of a control thing” about making music, lead singer Caleb Followill , 42, tells USA TODAY. He was joined for the interview by his brothers Jared , 37, and Nathan , 44 (his cousin Matthew rounds out the quartet but had a prior commitment). “This album in particular, I felt very close to a lot of it.”

The frontman initially thought the producer would be irrelevant for this album because the band was on the same page.

“Then when (Harpoon) came in, it was, ‘Oh he’s going to help us (get it across the finish line),’ Caleb says. “Then he won the Grammys, and then it was like, ‘Oh now we kind of have to listen to what he says.’

“But (him winning album of the year) never became a ‘thing.’”

The band knew a number of artists who worked with Harpoon but were closest to Styles. Caleb even remembers signing a guitar for Styles before they met, which may have happened during the band’s meteoric rise to fame in 2008 to 2010. That period started with the release of their fourth album, “Only by the Night.” The album included “Sex on Fire,” which won the Grammy for best rock vocal performance by a duo or group, and “Use Somebody,” which took home record of the year.

“I remember I was at a Mexican restaurant with my wife,” Caleb recalls of that time. The lead singer met Lily Aldridge in 2007, and they were married in 2011. “I think our manager called me and said, ‘Hey there’s an interview we need you to do like, right now.’ I picked up the phone and it was Zane Lowe, and he was debuting ‘Sex on Fire.’

“When he introduced the song, even hearing it over the phone, I was like: ‘Oh man. This feels different.’”

Followill knew things were about to change. So he did what any rock star would do: ordered shots of tequila to go with his margarita and tortilla soup.

Supporting The Groundbreaking New Album, When You See Yourself, Kicks Off August 3 rd  In West Palm Beach, FL With Special Guests Cold War Kids

Known for their impressive live performances, which have consistently been praised by critics for their dynamic creative, Kings of Leon will take to the stage performing new material alongside fan favorite tracks in their highly anticipated return to live shows.  The band expressed their excitement to get back on the road when speaking with SPIN for their April cover. “It has that fun first day of summer camp vibe to it, which we’ve missed so much. It’s going to be super cool to get out there and play these songs for the first time.” said Nathan Followill. Check out the cover and read the full article  HERE .

Special guests Cold War Kids will join them as support, with band frontman Nathan Willett adding, “We are so excited to open for Kings of Leon on tour all over the US! Like- thrilled beyond belief, losing our minds about it! Let’s go!”

Earlier this year, Kings of Leon released their innovative eighth studio album  When You See Yourself , marking the first time ever that a new album was released as an NFT. In a first of it’s kind launch, the innovative album release made waves through the music industry, quickly becoming one of the most successful wide-scale use of NFTs within the music industry to date.   In the history making drop, the band made available six GOLDEN TICKET experiences, offering fans four front row seats, each tour, to the show of their choosing, anywhere in the world, FOR LIFE.   NFT YOURSELF  album token holders were also able to redeem “Going Nowhere” (an acoustic version of the album track ‘Supermarket’). The previously unreleased version of the track is being given as a token of appreciation to everyone who was willing to invest in the future of music, during a year of uncertain futures. As Kings of Leon continue exploring ways to connect directly with their fans,  NFT YOURSELF  will be the gift that keeps on giving.

The drop has raked in 1k Ethereum, which at today’s valued exchange rate, is approximately 3.7 million dollars. $600,000 of that has gone to directly benefit Live Nation’s Crew Nation. Echoing this sentiment on tour, the band will continue to give back to their musical community with one dollar from every ticket going directly to their newly formed  Inherit The Music  foundation.

Inherit The Music  is embarking on a campaign to inspire the next generation of musicians. Co-founded by Kings of Leon and philanthropist Alisha Ballard,  Inherit The Music  supports local organizations that pay forward the gifts that only music can provide. By providing resources and funding education programs at all age levels, this newly formed charitable organization aims to impact the aspiring musicians of today and the future.

Kings of Leon’s latest album,  When You See Yourself , was recorded at Nashville’s famed Blackbird Studios and produced by Grammy Award-winning Markus Dravs. The album has received critical acclaim with  Rolling Stone Magazine  noting “…the band’s eighth album is an arena rock of the mind,” that “lunges and soars with rippling guitar leads cascading across some of the dirtiest riffs the band has put on a record since the New South-meets-neo-Strokes garage moves of its first two albums… this record might surprise you.”

Can We Please Have Fun , as its title suggests, is a document of one of this era’s great rock & roll bands cutting loose, trying new things, and, yes, having some fun. Recorded at Dark Horse studio in Nashville and produced with new collaborator Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Florence + the Machine) the album sees a new side of Kings of Leon. On the new album, the band harkens back to their gritty origins while simultaneously finding new gears. It’s the sound of a band unified in vision and purpose, freed from any expectations, and the album the band says they’ve always wanted to make.

It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” Caleb says. “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable,” Nathan adds. “I love it when a rock band is not embarrassed to admit that every song doesn’t have to be on 11.”

The group is gearing up for a monumental year, and they’re ready to take the world by storm. “When you have a band, there’s a bond like no other, and when you have family, you have a bond like no other,” Caleb says. “We have both of those things. I thought, if we put all our energy toward something, who is gonna stop us? Who can stop us except us?”

Kings of Leon (formed in 2000) is an American alternative family rock band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, in the U.S.

After the divorce of their parents, brothers Nathan and Caleb Followill moved to Nashville, Tennessee where they met songwriter Angelo Petraglia who introduced the pair to the influences of Thin Lizzy, The Rolling Stones and The Clash. In 1999 youngest brother Jared inspired by the Pixies and The Velvet Underground and cousin Matthew also moved to Nashville and Kings of Leon was born.

In 2002 Nathan and Caleb caught the attention of RCA Records who said they would be sending an A&R rep to hear them play. The band kidnapped Matthew from his home and spent a month in the brothers’ basement where they carved out the tracks “Molly’s Chamber”, “California Waiting” and “Wicker Chair”. A year later with Jared still unable to play bass, Kings of Leon released the “Holy Roller Novocaine” EP to critical reviews, receiving a considerable amount of exposure.

Kings of Leon have gone on to be one of the most successful rock bands of the 2000s, fusing their climatic Southern rock and blues influences to increasingly accessible results. The band released their debut “Youth & Young Manhood” in 2003 and subsequently “Aha Shake Heartbreak” in 2004, “Because of the Times” in 2007, “Only by the Night” in 2008, “Come Around Sundown” in 2010 and “Mechanical Bull” in 2013.

The band’s initial success was in the UK with nine Top 40 singles, two BRIT Awards in 2008 and all their five albums peaking in the Top 5 of the UK Albums chart. Following the release of “Only by the Night” in 2008 the band won the hearts of American fans largely helped by the radio-friendly “Sex on Fire”, “Use Somebody” and “Notion”. At the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards the group took home awards for Record of the Year for “Only by the Night”, Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for “Use Somebody”.

Due to the band international success and popularity of “Only by the Night” In 2008 Kings of Leon headlined Glastonbury festival followed by headlining slots at Reading & Leeds, Sasquatch, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits the year after.

Live reviews

!!best concert I ever attended!!

Everything (support band and kings of Leon themselves) started perfectly on time and it was a great show. The music was way better than any record could ever capture!! Hitting every note perfectly you could definitely see the band trying to do more than their best while looking so effortless and natural. Somehow every song they performed was "clearer" / more refined or nuanced (as you could hear the different instruments creating a song rather than a blurred, smeared sound as a whole) and kind of more intense than on the record: the slow, sometimes sad ones were more touching and really making me feel the emotion created by the music and the faster ones were much more rocking and engaging. The way they incorporated the audience and the atmosphere with everybody in the crowd singing the lyrics along at the top of their lungs, shouting, dancing and jumping around made it a very special event! As I was standing in the front row the whole event was made even more perfect by the fact that I was able to catch not only one but even two of the huge amount of plectrums (not sure wether this is the right plural of this word ^^) that the whole band was throwing in the crowd during their gig and a friend of mine even got a drum stick! All in all it was an evening full of highlights that made me discover a whole new side to their music but my personal favorite and definitely most emotional moment was a 10 minute version of pyro when the band somehow managed to reach every single person in the audience and make them participate (at least they made me feel like it).

Finally I want to point out that I personally never was I huge Kings of Leon fan - don't get me wrong, I always liked their music and knew the lyrics to their most common songs (like sex on fire, use somebody and waste a moment) but never got really excited for them like I did for other musicians or was actively listening to them, just once in while when I was feeling like it and then only the songs mentioned above. But this concert definitely changed my feelings towards them and reached something in me emotionally which I didn't even know existed! I really don't know how they managed to do that but I feel like I see things differently than before and it was probably one of the best moments in my entire life so far (and I really don't think that anything only close to that will happen to me in the any soon!). I would give everything to see them again soon but I think for me (living in Germany) it was kind of a rare opportunity :(

So to sum up I would really recommend to go see them if you have the chance to as it was a revelation to me! At first I thought that the tickets were too expensive but after this performance I would pay more than twice as much to get to experience a concert of them again.

When it first came to my attention that Kings of Leon had announced a summer series of one-off shows I knew it was vital that I managed to bag a ticket. The announcement soon came after the release of their sixth studio album 'Mechanical Bull' which soared straight to the top of the charts instantly after its release.

It was inevitable that the show would include tracks from this highly anticipated album, but with the bands huge success since they first burst onto the scene in 2003 it was inevitable that their huge number of singles would also be making an appearance. Leading up the performance we were treated with support acts 'Twin Atlantic' and 'HAIM' only giving us a small taster of what we should expect later in the evening. Racking up such a huge following over the years it was only expected that fans of the band would come out in force to see the band in person which is quite a rarity. The set list was carefully selected allowing us to share in their success over the years with a combination of their hits since the start of their career, only ensuring that all the crowds requests were met. It is true that this band do not interact with the audience as much as other artists do, but what they lack in conversation they definitely make up for in talent. Watching this band live felt monumental, they harbour such a talent and have carried with them their rock roots throughout their time in the industry.

Of course their most famous singles 'Sex on Fire' and 'Use Somebody' caused the biggest roar from the crowd all night but combined with their earlier rock ballads, this night was unforgettable. If you were to take anything away from this review, it would be say yes to buying a ticket to see this band as soon as you possibly can.

I had the opportunity to see the Kings of Leon at the Milwaukee Summerfest and other than them coming on late, only singing an hour and a half and not doing my two favorites, I was not disappointed. Since I'm fairly new to the Kings of Leon, I'm not familiar with a lot of their songs but I still enjoyed them tremendously. The songs that I knew sounded even better live than they do on their albums and their performance of most of the songs that I didn't know made me want to add those songs to my collection.

While they aren't the best vocalists, they are excellent musicians and they showcased their skills throughout the show. Additionally, from the time the concert began to the time it ended, it was all about the music. Other than graciously thanking the audience a few times, there was very little dialogue and they truly let the music "speak" in its stead.

After such awesome showmanship, naturally I was extremely disappointed when they concluded their concert after only an hour and a half, especially after not hearing my favorites. As a matter of fact, I was so disappointed that I had initially decided seeing them wasn't worth the two and a half hour drive I took to get there plus the cost of the ticket and that I wouldn't see them again. In hindsight however, I'm glad I went because their performance in and of itself was awesome. The jury is still out as to whether I'll see them again but at this point, I won't rule it out.

Kings of Leon is one of my favorite bands to see live: these guys just tend to have a great time, party, and drink along with the rest of us in the crowd! They have been around for quite a few years and really started taking off in the mid-2000s, but they still know their roots. They are all brothers and cousins so they have a connection all of their own, and Caleb's vocals are like a gateway to let us join in on the family too. They tend to play more arenas and amphitheaters these days since they are so huge, but their sound is perfect for it; these guys rock hard and always leave me walking away satisfied with my ears ringing and a smile on my face. They are another band that don't really rely on visuals and props to supplement their act, they let their instruments and vocals do all of the work, which is all anyone needs.

When you see Kings of Leon live, they don't sound totally like they do on their albums, they sound even better. Everyone can sing along to "Sex on Fire" and "Mary", but their live versions of the songs can be unpredictable and much better to listen to. They mainly play what the crowd wants to hear, basically most of the favorites from the past three albums, but once in a while they will throw in a tune from earlier in their careers. They are always worth seeing when they come around town!

Overall excellent concert. The opening band, The Sherlocks, put up a good performance that tied in quite well with what was yet to come. The KOL concert started with a not-so-impressive stage, but as part of the act, as we had to wait 40 minutes for the full stage, lights, animations, etc to be unleashed. The sound was excellent for a pavilion gig, we were on the stands facing frontally to the stage and sound was clear and enjoyable. They played all songs quite similarly to the albums without any major modifications with a great array. The only couple of things that weren't that perfect were the fact that they could have played a few more songs from the Mechanical Bull album, in my opinion would have tied quite well within the concert, and the fact that they didn't address the audience nor engaged with "us" for the biggest part of the concert, playing all songs straight without any interruptions, no breaks, no big discourses or presentations, and finishing it in 1:45 hours. Taking into consideration their music and albums, we were expecting the show to reach at least 2 hours, but was still a great experience nonetheless.

They were great live! I saw them at the Xfinity center in Mansfield Massachusetts. The opening band was pretty good (Daniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats). They did about six or seven songs as the opener. Kings of Leon came out to a beating heart intro it was neat. They performed some old "classics" such as "Notion", "Use Somebody", and "Sex on Fire". They sounded just like they do on the radio! The lead singer was very professional when the drummer had a flub and they had to stop the song. He just said "Hey that happens sometimes, live music". I thought that was cool that he was so chill about it. He talked a bit then they restarted the song. I think the lead singer has one of those voices that is made better live. He sounded good. They had really awesome background screens that changed designs and patterns. The lighting was fun a bit flashy at times but not too much. They ended the night with "Sex on Fire" and then did an extra song after that. It was a great night and totally worth the hour and a half drive it took us to get there. :) I would go see them again if given the opportunity.

KOL is one of my favorite bands and this was my first time seeing them. Had pit standing tickets and man the show had good energy. I love that they played a lot of their new album as expected but they continued to play their oldies but goodies as well, ending with like 25 total songs played. The songs sounded even better live than the recordings, and their big sound for 4 people was well alive. Their bass guitarist and drumming is a sight to see instrumentally and Caleb's voice was on point. Loved that they played "immortals" which is one of my favorites but honestly knew every song and couldn't of asked for a better set list! Great band, great show, I will be seeing them again!

Best night of my life!! Was supposed to go see them in 2010/3 but missed them & I was heartbroken!

Last night is a night I'll forever remember, I love Kings Of Leon so much! They put on the best show I've ever seen in my life and Calebs smile melted my heart.

This band is my life and to of finally seen them made me cry like a baby but I didn't care, I'm so grateful to have seen them play and I'm already looking forward to when they come back, maybe another 3/4 year wait but it'll be perfect!

Kings was amazing!!!! Although my roommate and I purchased cheap GA tickets we were able to sneak closer to the front.

The show was phenomenal. One kol opened with Closer, the spirit of music came through the amphitheater like a tsunami wave. Cried like a little school girl when they played Tonight. "Tonight, I'm gonna lose my body" needless to say the sound of the music reached out and resonated with the underlying ache in my soul. I know the whole crowd was move when they have a shout to Matt followill for his birthday. HANDS DOWN BEST SHOW IVE BEEN TO. I will forever remember Kings of Leon mechanical bull tour 2014!!!

They were great! Definitely not a boring band, the music is fun and upbeat, the band members were nice to their fans and audience, and I give them lots of credit for their lighting and video displays which attracts attention. Everyone really loved the way they played and that they not only played from their new album, but oldies as well so everyone can sing along. Their stage was awesome with the video effects and lighting which kept you going. I so recommend going to see them, I won't hesitate for next time!

Kings of Leon manager hopes gigs will prompt more shows in Wrexham

kings of leon tour manager

After Kings of Leon rocked the Racecourse this weekend it’s hoped that the shows will act as a catalyst for more regular concerts at the stadium.

It was a hugely successful weekend as the Racecourse played host two nights by the US rock giants.

Thousands packed into the stadium to see the band put on fantastic performances on both nights.

Kings of Leon’s manager Andy Mendelsohn believes the band’s shows, which also saw local heroes Declan Swans and Kelly Jones’ new band Far From Saints perform, will attract further gigs to the town.

Mendelsohn, who also oversees the touring version of The Always Sunny Podcast, told Spin Magazine he hopes the upcoming shows will lead to an uptick in usage of Racecourse Grounds as a concert venue.

“The hope is that other big bands see what’s going on in Wrexham and say, wow, we should play there too,” said Mendelsohn. “It doesn’t take away from playing in London or any other big city, and Wrexham being able to have a concert season in the football offseason means more tourism and more business for the town. This was all a lot of wishful thinking for a long time, and now everything has come to pass.”

kings of leon tour manager

There were two things people were talking about after the Kings of Leon concerts at The Racecourse – the US group’s powerhouse performance and Wrexham’s amazing new, high tech floodlights.

The American band are old hands at rocking a stadium and showed just why with a trademark gig full of their greatest hits in front of a sold out Racecourse.

However, the unexpected star of the show was the club’s brand new floodlights, which put on quite a lightshow to give the gig something of an added creative dimension.

As one Twitter user posted, Wrexham goal celebrations are going to be quite spectacular if they use the floodlights’ full range of tricks during games.

As this was not only a rock concert but also a celebration of the football’s club’s incredible season there were also highlights of the season shown during the band’s set, much to the enjoyment of the fans in the historic stadium.

Yet another pinch me moment for those fans who don’t want the dream to end.

On reflection I wish I had seen Lemmy and Co back in 1982 now, but great possibilities for the future of live music.

If I was a youth in Wrecsam I’d want to put a band together and open the show and rub shoulders with the stars, that or do stagecraft and sound systems. Has the Uni hooked-up course wise, it might slow the exodus to Cardiff and Bristol for these courses…

Kings of Leon are coming to TD Pavilion at the Mann on September 23!

Kings of Leon is an American rock band formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1999. The band is composed of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill, and their cousin Matthew Followill.

The band's early music was a blend of Southern rock and garage rock with blues influences, but it has evolved throughout the years to include a variety of genres and a more alternative rock-based sound. Kings of Leon achieved initial success in the United Kingdom with nine Top 40 singles and two BRIT Awards in 2008, and all three of the band's albums at the time peaked in the top five of the UK Albums Chart. Their third album, Because of the Times, reached No. 1.

After the release of Only by the Night in September 2008, the band achieved chart success in the United States. The singles "Sex on Fire", "Use Somebody", and "Notion" all peaked at number one on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. The album was their first platinum-selling album in the United States, and the best-selling album of 2008 in Australia, being certified platinum nine times. The band's fifth album, Come Around Sundown, was released on October 18, 2010. Their sixth album, Mechanical Bull, was released on September 24, 2013. The seventh studio album, Walls, was released on October 14, 2016. Their eighth studio album, When You See Yourself, was released on March 5, 2021. The group has won 4 Grammy Awards from 12 nominations, including Record of the Year for "Use Somebody" in 2010.

Kings of Leon Share One-Take Music Video for Single ‘Nothing To Do’

By Emily Zemler

Emily Zemler

Kings of Leon have dropped a new single, “Nothing To Do,” along with a music video for the track shot by frontman Caleb Followill . The hand-held clip was directed by Kings of Leon and Casey McGrath, with Followill shooting the entire thing in one take.

The raucous song sees the band taking on a more high energy vibe as Followill sings, “I’m a man on a mission of going insane/ There’s a gold in the breeze/ It’s running in your hair/ Is it in my head is neither here nor there/ And a picture framed of the day we met/ It’s a mystery/ How could i forget that you/ You want nothing to do with love.”

“Nothing To Do” will appear on the rock band’s forthcoming 9th LP,  Can We Please Have Fun , out on May 10 via Capitol Records. A press release notes that the song “delves into their post-punk sound with its jagged guitar riffs and propulsive drumming.” It follows their prior singles “Split Screen” and “Mustang.”

“It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” Caleb said in a statement. “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable,” Nathan Followill added, “I love it when a rock band is not embarrassed to admit that every song doesn’t have to be on 11.”

The band recently announced a North American tour kicking off in August in Austin. The trek, which includes stops in Boston, Nashville, and Seattle, concludes in Bridgeport, CT on Oct. 5.

KINGS OF LEON ANNOUNCE THEIR 2024 CAN WE PLEASE HAVE FUN WORLD TOUR

Following the announcement of their brand new album and a headline performance at BST Hyde Park this summer, Kings of Leon have today revealed details of their 2024 Can We Please Have Fun World Tour.

The UK and Ireland tour will open in Leeds on June 20th before taking in Birmingham, Bristol, London (BST Hyde Park), Glasgow, Dublin and Nottingham before culminating in Manchester. The run of shows will also see the multi-award winning, multi-platinum selling band play Silverstone for the British F1 Grand Prix on July 4th.

Earlier this week, Kings of Leon announced their brand new, Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Florence + the Machine) produced  album ‘Can We Please Have Fun’, out 10 May via Polydor Records. The album’s hard-charging lead single “Mustang” is available now.

‘Can We Please Have Fun’, as its title suggests is a document of one of this era’s great rock & roll bands cutting loose, trying new things, and yes, having some fun. Recorded at Dark Horse studio and produced with new collaborator Kid Harpoon, the album sees the band hark back to their gritty origins, while simultaneously finding new gears. It’s the sound of a band unified in vision and purpose, freed from any expectations and the album the band says they’ve always wanted to make.

“It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” Caleb says.
