35 Photos That Will Make You Want to Visit Korea

Namsan Tower View Seoul Korea

If you are looking for some inspiration to visit South Korea, then this is the post for you. These are photos that will make you want to visit Korea! From the rich culture to the stunning vistas, to the beautiful nature, Korea has it all and more.

Recently I have seen a lot of photo lists around. From ’38 photos that will make you want to visit Korea’ to ’12 photos of the stunning autumn colours in South Korea’. Image lists seem to be the new trend in inspiring people to travel to a country.

Since I already have a lot of images from South Korea and Seoul, I thought it would be a cool idea to make an addition to these lists. If you are someone who is looking for motivation to visit Korea, this list is for you! This is my list of photos that will make you want to visit Korea!

A large portion of these images are from Seoul. This is only due to the fact that I live in Seoul and photograph here very often. There are a lot of other wonderful places in Korea also, both cities and countryside.

1. Yeouido Sunset

A Sunset at Yeouido

A summer sunset at Yeouido.

Perhaps expectedly, one of my favourite pictures of all time begins this list. Yeouido is a (sort of) island located on the Han River, and a very popular place for picnics and enjoying the view. It also has some stunning sunsets and some which have to be seen to be believed! On top of all this, it also provides some stunning views of the Seoul skyline. This is a must-see sunset if you visit Seoul!

Looking for a nice way to spend an evening? Or one of the best date locations in Seoul? Hire a tent and spend the evening on the river banks !

As I mentioned earlier, Seoul has some stunning sunsets. These are best witnessed from any high-point in the city, and Namsan Tower is one of the most accessible places to witness the spectacle. 24. Daedunsan in Fall

35 Photos That Will Make You Want to Visit Korea 4

Daedunsan in Fall

Korea is stunning in fall. In fact, I think it’s even more beautiful than in spring… That’s saying something! While much of Korea is beautiful in this season, I especially love Daedunsan .

The mountain is located about three hours away from Seoul and it is a trip that is well worth it. Although the mountain is a great hike in any season, the fall period can’t be beaten.

Want to experience the Daedunsan fall foliage yourself?

25. Summer at the Beach

Surfing at Surfyy Beach

Learning to surf at Surfyy Beach.

I didn’t think I’d be learning to surf in Korea , but that’s what ended up happening! The beaches are crystal-clear and (in the summer) pleasantly warm. This is one of the best Seoul getaways if you need some time away from the city!

26. Udo Lighthouse

Udo Lighthouse

Udo Island Lighthouse.

Jeju is known for being the paradise within Korea. However, I would go even further and say that Udo is the paradise within Jeju . That is to say, it is the paradise within paradise!

Want to visit Udo? You can get tickets here !

Olympic Park view of Lotte Tower.

Olympic Park is known for the famous ‘lone tree’. But that’s far from the most beautiful view that the park has to offer!

31. Han River Sunset

Han River Dongjak View

A Han River Sunset as seen from one of the many Han River bridges.

By now you’ve probably guessed that I really like sunsets. I can say for certain, you are not wrong!

This particular sunset was taken from the Han River in fall 2019. While a red sunset like this is quite exceptional, a beautiful sunset at the river isn’t. If you are looking for something to do one evening, why not head down to the river and watch the sunset? You won’t regret it!

32. Gyeongbokgung Palace Hanbok

Hanbok Rental in Seoul

A couple hugs in front of Gyeongbokgung Palace

There are some sights that can only be found in Korea (quite a lot of them actually!), and both hanbok and Korean Palaces are among them. Although Gyeongbokgung is a favourite among visitors to the country, there are also many other fantastic palaces located both inside and outside of Seoul.

35. Snowing in Seoul

35 Photos That Will Make You Want to Visit Korea 7

One of the most exciting times of the year in Seoul (and Korea!) is when it snows. While snow is quite rare – it normally only snows once or twice per year, it can be stunning when it does eventually come! If you are planning on visiting Korea in winter, make sure to check out this post on Christmas in Korea .

Photos That Will Make You Want to Visit Korea

That concludes my list of photos. For now! I will keep adding to this list in the future, to show off more of Korea to the world. It’s a beautiful country, and I think it is often overlooked. Remember to check back on this post in the future to see if more images have been added!

If you enjoyed this post please feel free to share it on social media. Every share helps, and I hope that as many people can see how beautiful Korea is as possible.

Where Is the Best Place to Take Photos in Korea?

There is no single answer to this question. However, I do have some suggestions! Firstly, I highly recommend visiting the mountains of Korea . More great choices are the beaches and coastline around the country.

Where Is the Best Place to Take Photos in Seoul?

There are many great spots in Seoul. However, some that I recommend are Cafe Seoulism , Namsan Tower , the Han River , and Chonggyecheon.

Where Is the Best Sunset Spot in Seoul?

I have a whole post dedicated to this topic! Best sunsets in Seoul .

What Is the Best Travel Camera?

The best travel camera is the camera that you have! On a more serious note, this really depends. For me, the best travel camera is a small mirrorless camera such as the Sony A6500.

What Is the Best Season for Korea Travel Photos?

Although every season has its charms, I would say the best season to visit Korea for photos is fall, closely followed by spring.

Beautiful photos. You managed to get a nice balance between urban dynamism and rural serenity with this collection. Great work.

Thank you William! I appreciate your kind words. That was my main aim – I wanted to capture some of the extreme, yet beautiful, contrasts of South Korea.

The Most Beautiful Places in South Korea

By Caitlin Morton

South Korea is on everyone's radar right now, as PyeongChang gears up to host the Winter Olympics beginning on February 9. But the country's appeal extends far beyond athletic facilities—with ancient temples , tea plantations, trendy neighborhoods, and more than 3,000 offshore islands to explore, South Korea should be on everyone's travel bucket list. Need more convincing? Here are the country's most beautiful sites, ready to welcome you long after the Olympians head home.

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond

Located near the city of Gyeongju, this 7th-century palace complex contains well-preserved temples, museums filled with ancient relics, and three small islands. Its star attraction is the surrounding Wolji Pond, an artificial lake that perfectly reflects the buildings (especially at night) and becomes covered with lotus flowers in the summer.

Cheongsando Island

Southern Cheongsando Island is known for its untouched beauty—think terraced rice paddies, panoramic ocean views, and fields of yellow rapeseed flowers. The island is also famous for embracing the concept of slow living, hosting a "Slow Walking Festival" every year in which visitors and residents are encouraged to stroll the walking trails as slowly as possible to better soak in the scenery.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Seoul

Built in 2014 near Seoul's Dongdaemun Market , this Zaha Hadid-designed plaza is well worth exploring for a few hours. The building's seven levels can be explored on a guided tour or at your own leisurely pace, but the on-site history museum and clothing market are just added bonuses to the architecture itself, designed with no angles nor straight lines.

Samgwangsa Temple, Busan

Samgwangsa Temple is known for its annual lantern festival, an event honoring Buddha's birthday (usually in late May) that attracts over a million visitors every year. During the festival, countless lanterns light up in spectacular colors beneath the night sky.

About 40 percent of the country's green tea supply grows in the fields of Boseong, which attracts photographers and filmmakers as much as tea drinkers thanks to its dramatic green fields.

Located about 20 miles west of Busan, Jinhae is a quiet coastal town known for one thing: cherry blossoms. Each spring, the city holds the largest cherry blossom festival in South Korea, with hundreds of thousands of pink trees lining streets, railways, and streams.

Ulleungdo Island

This volcanic island boasts some seriously impressive scenery, with Hawaii-esque coastlines and Cabo San Lucas-esque rock formations. But visual similarities aside, this Sea of Japan destination is truly one of a kind—especially when you throw in the island's famous seafood dishes (like honghap bap , a seasoned rice dish served with mussels).

Established in 1967, this is the oldest official national park in the country, drawing visitors for its 119,350 acres of rolling mountains and valleys, temple complexes, and Asiatic black bear habitats.

Haeinsa Temple

Haeinsa is one of the most famous ancient sights in the country, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Aside from its beauty, the temple is home to the Tripitaka Koreana , a collection of some 80,000 tablets engraved with Buddhist writings.

Juwangsan National Park may be small (about 41 square miles), but it packs quite the punch. The park is known for the vertical, rocky cliffs of Juwangsan Mountain, tucked-away waterfalls, and willow tree-filled Jusanji Pond (pictured).

This 620-year-old Buddhist temple may be the most photographic spot in the Insadong district, with streams of pink, blue, and yellow lanterns on the ceiling and window shudders carved into the shape of trees.

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Busan

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple has one of the most scenic locations of any temple in the country—overlooking the sea on the northwest corner of Busan. Most temples are found in the mountains, so the chance to meditate while watching the sun rise over the ocean is particularly special.

Cheonjiyeon Falls

Located on Jeju Island—a wholly beautiful destination in its own right—this 72-foot-tall waterfall is surrounded by walking trails, lemon trees, and a pond filled with tropical (and totally harmless) eels. There is truly no wrong time to visit, as the cascades are lit up at night.

This image may contain Animal Bird Nature Sunlight Outdoors Human and Person

Located at the easternmost end of the country, Homigot is the place to watch the sun rise in South Korea. Due to its location, the area is the first in the country to catch sight of the rising sun—there is even a Sunrise Festival held here every New Year's, where visitors gather in masses to watch the solar event together. The site is made even more special with "Hand of Harmony," a sculpture featuring two hands—one on land, one in the ocean—reaching upward in a symbol of harmony.

Naganeupseong Folk Village

Time seems to stand still in this village, with houses, castles, and monuments appearing almost exactly as they did 600 years ago. Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul

Gyeongbokgung Palace is the largest—and arguably the most beautiful—of Seoul's five palaces. Its Gyeonghoeru pavilion remains nearly exactly as it was when it was built back in 1395, and its on-site museums feature some of the best Korean art in the country.

In an increasingly modern city like Seoul, the Bukchon Hanok Village stands apart for its quiescence. Hundreds of the hanoks (traditional Korean houses) have been protected, with many buildings now serving as tea houses and galleries.

As you explore Jeju Island, don’t miss out on the opportunity to capture the mesmerizing beauty of its waterfalls and beaches through your lens. Head to Cheonjeyeon Falls for a picturesque view of three cascading falls surrounded by lush greenery. The first waterfall is 22 meters high and creates a rainbow when it hits the rocks below. You can also visit Jeongbang Waterfall, which is the only waterfall in Asia that falls directly into the ocean. It offers a stunning view of the sea and cliffs.

In addition to waterfalls, Jeju Island boasts numerous beaches with crystal-clear waters perfect for photography. One of them is Seogwipo Beach, located near Cheonjiyeon Falls. It has black sand and breathtaking views of nearby islands. Another beach worth visiting is Hamdeok Beach, known for its emerald-colored waters and white sand stretching over 1 kilometer long. Capture these natural wonders with your camera before moving on to explore the lava tubes that run beneath Jeju Island’s surface.

Explore the Lava Tubes

To fully immerse yourself in the geological wonders of Jeju Island, you should explore the fascinating lava tubes that lie beneath its surface. These natural formations were created by volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago and have now become one of the island’s top attractions for both tourists and locals alike. Here are five reasons why exploring the lava tubes should be at the top of your list:

 • Witness unique rock formations: The lava tubes are home to a variety of interesting rock formations, including stalactites, stalagmites, and lava shelves.
 • Experience total darkness: As you venture deeper into the caves, you’ll experience complete darkness – a rare phenomenon these days with our constant exposure to artificial light.
 • Learn about Jeju’s history: Explore how volcanic activity played a role in shaping Jeju Island’s landscape over millions of years through interactive exhibits and audio guides available on site.
 • See rare wildlife: There are several species of bats that call these caves home, and other creatures such as centipedes and spiders can also be found here.
 • Challenge yourself physically: While some sections may require crawling or crouching to get through, most visitors will find exploring these underground tunnels an exciting physical challenge.

As you emerge from the depths of Jeju’s underground world, it’s time to move on to another stunning location for photography – Nami Island.

Nami Island

Nami Island’s stunning natural beauty has made it a favorite destination for photographers visiting South Korea. This small, crescent-shaped island is located about an hour away from Seoul and offers visitors a glimpse into the country’s picturesque landscape. With its tree-lined paths, colorful gardens, and crystal-clear streams, Nami Island is a photographer’s paradise.

One of the most popular spots for photography on Nami Island is the Central Korean Pine Tree Lane. This beautiful avenue features towering pine trees that are over 30 meters tall and have been growing on the island for more than 60 years. The unique shape of these trees provides an excellent backdrop for portrait photography and is especially stunning during autumn when their needles turn golden yellow.

Another must-see spot on Nami Island is the Metasequoia Lane. This breathtaking path features rows of tall and slender metasequoia trees that create a canopy overhead. The vibrant colors of these trees make them perfect for capturing photos during autumn or winter when they turn red or brownish-orange in color. As you stroll through this lane, you’ll feel like you’ve entered another world entirely – one filled with natural beauty at every turn.

Next up: Busan! This bustling port city in southern Korea boasts some of the country’s best beaches, as well as countless other attractions that will surely delight any photographer looking to capture South Korea’s vibrant culture and bustling energy.

Located in southern Korea, Busan is a bustling city with stunning beaches and diverse cultural attractions that are sure to captivate any photographer. The area also features a variety of restaurants and cafes where visitors can enjoy local cuisine while taking in picturesque views at their leisure. In short, Busan has something special to offer photographers looking to capture unforgettable memories in South Korea.

Firstly, make sure to visit during sunset or sunrise; this is when the sky comes alive with shades of reds and oranges, creating an ethereal atmosphere that will take your breath away. Secondly, explore beyond just taking photos of the bridge and beach – walk around Gwangan Bridge Observatory or head towards Millak Waterside Park to get different angles and perspectives.

Gwangalli Beach provides endless opportunities for photographers to unleash their creativity and experiment with various styles. Whether you’re into landscape photography or portrait photography- there’s something here for everyone. So grab your camera gear and get ready to immerse yourself in one of South Korea’s most photogenic locations!

If you’re a tourist, you’ll probably want a few pictures of Seoul to take back with you. But some people are better than others when it comes to photography skills. As luck has it, there’s a few spots in Seoul where you can whip any old camera and get an iconic picture of Seoul. Just go there and say kimchi !

1. Gwanghwamun Square

This is the center of all tourist activities in Seoul. It’s immediately adjacent to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Korea’s main royal palace, as well as two statues of Korea’s greatest heroes, Admril Yi Susin and King Sejong the Great. Even if you don’t have the best camera or you’re not the best photographer in the world, there’s plenty of opportunity to snag some good looking pictures with the iconic backdrop of the palace gates as well as Bugaksan Mountain. These statues are pretty majestic.

How to get there: Gwanghwamun Station (line 5), exit 2

2. Gyeongbokgung Palace

Head inside of Gyeongbokgung, the main palace of Korea’s last royal dynasty, and you’ll find plenty of picture taking spots for amateur and professional photographers alike. You’ll get a closer view of Bugaksan Mountain, the chance to take pictures with the Gyeongbokgung guards, as well as plenty of traditional Korean architecture to photograph. There’s a plethora of beautiful photo opportunities, but one of the most iconic pictures of Seoul you can take is of Hyangwonjeong Pavilion, a private place in the back of the royal grounds.

Tip: You can photograph the outer gates at night (they’re lit up), but entrance inside the palace at night is only allowed a few times a year. For 2014 the dates are from February 12th to 17th (from 6PM to 9PM).

How to get there: Gyeongbokgung Station (line 3), exit 5 or Gwanghwamun Station (line 5), exit 2

3. Changdeokgung (Secret Garden)

Gyeongbokgung is the main palace, but Changdeokgung is considered the prettiest of them all. And anybody taking photos of Seoul would be amiss to forget visiting this beautiful palace full of photo ops. It’s less crowded than Gyeongbokgung so you don’t have to wait as much for other people to get out of your shot. And there’s also the Secret Garden in the back of the palace. There you’ll find perfect harmony between nature and traditional architecture.

How to get there: Anguk Station (line 3), exit 3

4. Bukchon Hanok Village

In contrast to the grandiose of the palaces, taking pictures of Bukchon Hanok Village can be quaint and charming. Somehow, pictures of this iconic Seoul neighborhood exudes its actual tranquility, and you too can take these photos pretty easily. No matter the camera you’re holding or your photography skills, the city of Seoul makes it easy by marking the best photo spots on the ground.

Too Good to Be True? 8 Countries Offering Incentives to Live There

Posted: April 19, 2024 | Last updated: April 19, 2024

If you dream of a life abroad but are worried about how you can afford it, there could be an answer. Several countries actively seek new residents, offering financial perks and other benefits to make relocation more attractive. Here’s a glimpse into eight countries that want you to come and live in:

If you dream of a life abroad but are worried about how you can afford it, there could be an answer. Several countries actively seek new residents, offering financial perks and other benefits to make relocation more attractive. Here’s a glimpse into eight countries that want you to come and live in:

The floating city of Venice is another beautiful Italian city where people flock to ride a gondola along the picturesque canals. As you stroll through the city, you can wonder at the colorful buildings, the stunning architecture, and the vibrant St. Mark’s Square. Free from the noise and traffic of cars, Venice offers a tranquil vacation for those looking to get away from it all when they retire.

While popular cities like Rome and Florence don’t have to worry about their population, Italy has several charming towns facing declining residents. Candela, in Puglia, and Locana, in Piedmont, have houses for sale that are as low as 1 Euro. While the fee for the houses seems unbelievable, there are requirements to renovate the homes to a decent standard. The renovation fees will be significant, but they can work out a lot lower than it would to buy a home that requires no work, as the average in Piedmont is €1,095,837.

Barcelona is synonymous with Antoni Gaudí, the famous architect whose whimsical and colorful creations define the cityscape. Marvel at the Sagrada Familia, a breathtaking basilica still under construction, or Park Güell, with its whimsical structures and panoramic views. Along with enjoying amazing tapas and exploring La Boqueria Market, you can enjoy time at the beach at one of the many art galleries.

Spain is another European country actively seeking to revitalize certain areas by attracting new residents. Worried about their population and wanting, certain villages in Spain are luring newcomers with affordable housing to carry on the town’s legacy. Cabanes de Berrueco in Madrid and Ponga in Asturias offer houses for a fraction of the market price, expecting residents to contribute to the local economy. In Ponga, a grant of 3,000 euros is being offered to people who settle in the village, and a further 3,000 euros will be given to every child born there.

Lake Lucerne, the crown jewel of Lucerne, is a shimmering body of water surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Take a scenic boat cruise on the lake, enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks, like Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus, nicknamed the “Queen of the Mountains.” The lakefront promenade is a picturesque place to stroll, offering stunning scenery and a glimpse into the city’s vibrant life.

Switzerland

If you want to settle in a mountain paradise, Albinen, a small village in Switzerland, has offered homes for just 1 franc. The nominal fee is in exchange for a commitment to renovate and live there for at least ten years. This particular program may be closed to offers, but the Swiss authorities regularly have other initiatives in Switzerland offering financial incentives for relocation to specific regions. The latest Swiss town to offer incentives for people to settle is Gambarogno. The town advertised their “rustic” stone houses that needed extensive renovation for a small fee of 1 franc. For people who want to live in a remote part of the world at a bargain price, Gambarogno could be a good option.

The town of Legrand in northern Croatia is known for offering houses for a symbolic price of 1 kuna, roughly equivalent to 13 cents USD. While the houses are cheap to acquire, they’re often in disrepair and require significant renovations to be habitable, although they can apply for a 25,000 kuna ( $3,581.24) grant. Buyers need approval for renovation plans from the local council and may be required to remain in the area for several years.

Buyers need approval for renovation plans from the local council and may be required to remain in the area for several years.

Immerse yourself in Japanese culture in Kyoto, a city with beautiful temples, gardens, and geisha districts. The city’s traditional wooden houses built in classic Japanese style captivate tourists, as do the elaborate kimonos worn in the Geisha district. Kyoto is renowned for its meticulously designed gardens, each a work of art. You can witness cherry trees blossom, a bucket list item if you are lucky enough.

To combat population decline in rural areas, Japan has offered subsidies for relocation to these areas. The national government offers financial aid to encourage people to move from densely populated urban areas like Tokyo to less populated rural regions. This subsidy can be a significant sum, especially for families with children. Additionally, some towns provide financial support for starting businesses and cover moving costs, often up to 5 million Japanese Yen ($32,618.34). There are, however, conditions to set up a business or get a job in the area, and you must stay for a minimum of 5 years.

South Korea offers programs for English teachers with financial aid and visa assistance to attract young foreigners and boost its demographic balance. This can be a great way to experience Korean culture while earning a living. Many programs require a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification and specific eligibility requirements.

South Korea

South Korea offers programs for English teachers with financial aid and visa assistance to attract young foreigners and boost its demographic balance. This can be a great way to experience Korean culture while earning a living. Many programs require a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification and specific eligibility requirements.

As with many tourist destinations, pickpocketing and bag snatching, amongst other petty theft, can occur in crowded areas, especially in major cities like Bangkok. While not as severe as in some countries, occasional catcalling or unsolicited comments can happen. Female travelers must also be cautious of accepting drinks from strangers, especially in bars, as drink spiking can be problematic in some parts of the country.

The competition for talented teachers is fierce globally. By offering housing assistance, Thailand makes its packages more enticing, particularly for those coming from countries with a higher cost of living. Thailand, the “Land of Smiles,” welcomes English teachers with attractive packages that include work visas, health insurance, and sometimes even subsidized housing. Like South Korea, teaching English in Thailand can enhance your resume and open doors for future career opportunities. The central location in Southeast Asia makes it a fantastic base for exploring neighboring countries.

From stunning beaches and rice terraces to bustling cities and historical landmarks, Vietnam offers a variety of landscapes to explore. One of the draws of Vietnam is it offers a residency program specifically for retirees, often called “rentista.” This program grants residency to those with a minimum monthly income, typically around $1,000. Vietnam also offers retirees a significantly lower cost of living than many Western countries.

Following a similar trend to Thailand and Korea, Vietnam is actively seeking foreign English teachers. Programs typically cover work visas, airfare, and sometimes even TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification assistance. For those worrying about housing, some schemes support finding a house and funding your stay. Incentives are desirable in rural areas with a need for more English teachers.

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) offer pathways to permanent residency for skilled workers in various industries. While not a direct financial incentive, these programs can streamline immigration for those seeking to build a life in Canada. PNPs often encourage settlement in specific areas within a province. This can help with integration by connecting newcomers with local resources and communities.
