Travel Without Limits, Australia’s first disability specific travel magazine, launches

Australia’s first disability specific print travel magazine has launched, targeting the 4.2m Australians living with a disability.

Travel Without Limits is aimed at the accessible tourism industry which represents $10.8bn to the Australian economy, surpassing the Chinese-inbound market of $10.4bn.

julie jones travel without limits

Julie Jones, creator of website Have Wheelchair Will Travel, is the co-founder and executive editor of the title, alongside Janeece Keller.

Travel Without Limits will provide valuable advice, tips and reviews on all aspects of travel, the company said.

A recent study by travel booking platform Amadeus revealed 46% of travellers with a disability identify their greatest challenge as being a lack of essential destination information. Travel Without Limits aims to address this by informing and inspiring travellers despite any challenges they or their families may have.

“Often, the information needed to travel with confidence when you have additional needs requires specific and detailed stories,” said Jones.

“We believe these should be written by people with lived experience. So we’ve brought together contributors and partners to share stories and experiences to help you plan, prepare and feel like our readers can travel without limits.”

Travel Without Limits will be released for the first time at the Source Kids Disability Expo in Melbourne on March 29 and will also be available to read on the Travel With Special Needs website.

“We strongly believe in the need to promote accessible and inclusive travel in the mainstream media,” said Keller.

“We want to give accessible tourism the space it deserves, not merely through inclusion in mainstream media, but through its own custom publication. Travel Without Limits gives us that opportunity and we’re excited to share these stories and relevant information with our readers.”

Hannah Blackiston was the deputy editor of Mumbrella. She worked with the company from March 2019 to November 2020.

All about the plan! Still trying to navigate travel insurance. Sometimes they ask questions I don’t know the answer to. Want to be covered when overseas and don’t know what to say. I had chronic pain for a couple of years from an MS relapse and seriously can’t remember how things were. Where can you find out your health status and what are the reliable insurance company for people like us?

International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) is 3 December 2020, and we were so grateful to have Julie Jones come onto the podcast to talk about accessible travel. She so wonderfully calls it, Travel without Limits!

Julie worked in the travel industry for many years. When her son was born with a disability her focus shifted to accessible & inclusive tourism. She founded the website Have Wheelchair Will Travel to share reviews and later co-founded Travel Without Limits magazine, Australia’s first disability specific travel publication.

Enjoy this wonderful discussion about diversity, inclusion and making travel accessible for all to enjoy.

Travel Without Limits: Issue #6: September 2021 Kindle Edition

We are so happy to be bringing you the sixth issue of Travel Without Limits magazine. The world continues to feel the effects of the pandemic but with vaccination rates on the increase and various strategies to get travel and other industries back on its feet, we feel positive and hopeful. The Paralympics has certainly been a wonderful distraction and in this issue we have Robyn Lambird (Tokyo bronze medallist) sharing her travel tips.

Although many travellers focus on their destination, anyone with a disability understands one of the greatest challenges can be finding an accessible way to get there and tour the sights. With that in mind we decided to focus our spring/summer issue on the many transport options that can help you explore the globe. The best accessible holiday outcomes are the result of meticulous research and tips from other travellers with lived experience. We are lucky to have a team of contributors who love sharing their travel challenges and triumphs in the hope it will lead to smoother travels for others.
