Day 1 UK - Barcelona

Make your own way to the airport for your f light to Barcelona. On arrival we'll transfer you to the lovely resort of Roses, on the Costa Brava. The northernmost of Spain's Costas is home to some of the country's most charming towns, villages and beaches. Its stunning coastline stretches along the Mediterranean Sea for more than 300 kilometres and offers dramatic views of the famous Pyrenees, which tower up to 3,000 metres. Roses is renowned for its splendid wide beaches, all of which have earned Blue Flag status. As your hotel is located right on the seafront, why not take a stroll on the golden sands before dinner.

Day 2 Trenet de Cadaques

The Pyrenees mountain range divides Spain and France and offers spectacular opportunities for exploration, and that's what this holiday is all about! Today's journey is on the Trenet de Cadaques – this fun road train will take you through Roses to Cap de Creus National Park, where the mountains meet the sea. This afternoon is free to do as you wish, you might want to tackle a few laps of the hotel's swimming pool, hit the gym or maybe treat yourself to a spa treatment. The beach is close by, so soaking up the sun and the sea views is another tempting option!

Day 3 The Yellow Train

You'll head into France today, with your explorations beginning in the medieval walled city of Thuir. Located at the foothills of the Pyrenees, it is famed for its vineyards, and for the Byrrh caves, where the aperitif Byrrh is made. This unique drink is a blend of fine Roussillion wines flavoured with plant extracts and quinine, which in the latter half of the 19th century was sold as a 'hygienic tonic wine'. Why not sample some before we continue to Villefranche de Conflent, to board the Yellow Train for a journey through the Pyrenees. This train line was originally constructed in 1903, with the yellow colours of the train chosen as they are the dominant colours of the Catalan flag. Spectacular Catalan scenery awaits as you pass through the medieval town of Villefranche-de-Conflent and into the Tet Valley. Here, the train track hugs the hillside and you'll have wonderful views of forests, streams, viaducts and bridges until you reach Mont Louis. Here, we'll disembark the train and find our coach waiting for us, ready to whisk us back to the hotel.

Day 4 Roses - at Leisure

Day 5 the red train, day 6 núria valley rack railway.

We're staying in Spain today, where you'll enjoy another fantastic trip by rail into the mountains. This time it's an electric cog train which takes you into the Núria Valley. In fact, the railway is the only form of transport here. As you journey into the heart of the area, you'll get an idea of the enormity of the valley. Keep your eyes peeled for deer or marmot, and listen to your guide who will tell you more about this remote and spectacularly beautiful area. In the summer months, it is a haven for wildlife and a popular destination for walkers. In the winter months it is a ski resort.

Day 7 Figueres

We'll explore the delightful town of Figueres today, the birthplace of Salvador Dali. What you'll find here is an intriguing Old Town with a laid-back atmosphere. After a stroll, we'll head inside the Dali Theatre and Museum where you can see many famous works by the surrealist painter. Dali is also buried here, and his crypt is under the stage. Your tour ends at Peralada Castle.

Day 8 Barcelona - UK

Today we'll transfer you to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

Don’t miss the included ride on the tractor-hauled, tourist road train, the Roses Express, which winds its way at an anything but express pace – into the wooded hills of the Cap de Creus Natural Park above the resort. Expect some wonderful views along the coastline. Other sites to see in and around the resort include the ruins of the 16th-century citadel walls and Trinitat Castle, and some fascinating ancient dolmen burial sites. Roses still functions as a working fishing port, and so seafood is the most popular fare here, and those preferring food to sightseeing will enjoy tasting the local speciality, suquet de peix – a fish and potato stew served with a flourish in most of the town’s many restaurants.
  • Day 3 Arrow up click to collapse day Arrow Up - Click to expand day Today’s train journey aboard the historic Yellow Train, or Petit Train Jaune, takes us on a meandering trail through the sun-kissed French Pyrenees. We’ll begin our journey in the beautiful, UNESCO-listed town of Villefranche-de-Conflent and travel through some stunning scenery and across soaring bridges and viaducts – each one an engineering marvel – towards France’s highest station, at Bolquere-Eyne. Continuing through a spectacular mountainous landscape, you’ll reach the Pyrenean commune of Mont-Louis, with its great citadel and city walls. Take in the beautiful surroundings, and perhaps enjoy lunch (payable locally), before we make our way back to Roses by coach at the end of a thoroughly absorbing day. On fine days, don’t miss the sunset from the beach – Roses is the only Costa Brava resort to face west, which means that some evenings can be truly spectacular.
  • Day 4 Arrow up click to collapse day Arrow Up - Click to expand day You can spend today pottering around at your own pace or opt to join a half-day scenic boat tour to Cadaqués – a small coastal town set on the bay of the Cap de Creus Peninsula. You’ll have an hour to seek out its seaside splendours and discover why it was a source of inspiration for famous painters and artists, like Salvador Dalí who holidayed here as a child. Wander around its old town and museums, visit Dalí’s house-museum, or relax on one of the beaches before travelling back to Roses.
  • Day 5 Arrow up click to collapse day Arrow Up - Click to expand day Head into the beautiful Catalan Pyrenees on today’s included excursion. The highlight of the day will be the 45-minute journey aboard the privately owned, two-car Nuria Rack Railway, or Cremallera, from the hamlet of Ribes de Freser up through a steep, forested gorge to Nuria. This remote ski station and pilgrimage shrine draws pilgrims from across the globe to its imposing lakeside sanctuary. Stroll on the paths that cross the alpine meadows and learn about the history of this extraordinary place, before re-boarding the train for the return journey down the valley and then back to Roses. After a thoroughly enchanting day, enjoy dinner at the hotel and, as on each evening, rest and relax in the lounge or perhaps stroll into town, where you'll find a selection of bars and cafes, as well as plenty of nightlife for the energetic and young at heart.
  • Day 6 Arrow up click to collapse day Arrow Up - Click to expand day Our final included excursion takes us back into France, today. The highlight will be your journey aboard the 100-year-old Train du pays Cathare et du Fenouilledes, more often simply called the Red Train. Travel through the spectacular scenery of castle dotted Cathar Country from Rivesaltes, near historic Perpignan, to the Pyrenean village of Axat. On fine days, you'll ride in open-air summer wagons across viaducts and through tunnels, and past the vineyard-clad lower slopes of the Eastern Pyrenees. After time to savour your wonderful surroundings for the last time, return to Roses to enjoy a final evening and dinner at your hotel.
  • Day 7 Arrow up click to collapse day Arrow Up - Click to expand day Embrace a day of leisure before you head home tomorrow, perhaps taking to the beachfront promenade or enjoying the hotel’s amenities. Those looking for something more active can venture to the Aiguamolls Nature Reserve and explore the walking trails or partake in a round of golf at one of the top-class courses.
  • Day 8 Arrow up click to collapse day Arrow Up - Click to expand day Bid farewell to your Catalan hosts, and transfer back to the airport to check in for your flight home, at the end of a wonderful few days of train journeys.

Holiday Itinerary Little Trains of the Pyrenees

Day 1 uk - barcelona.

Today you fly to Barcelona. D

Day 2 Trent de Cadaques

The Pyrenees mountain range divides Spain and France and offers spectacular opportunities for exploration, and that's what this holiday is all about! Today's journey is on the Trenet de Cadaques – this fun road train will take you through Roses to Cap de Creus National Park, where the mountains meet the sea. This afternoon is free to do as you wish, you might want to tackle a few laps of the hotel's swimming pool, hit the gym or maybe treat yourself to a spa treatment. The beach is close by, so soaking up the sun and the sea views is another tempting option!    B, D

Day 4 Roses at leisure

Today you have a full day at leisure to do exactly as you please. You can make further use of your hotel's excellent facilities or relax on the nearby golden sandy beaches. B,D

Day 5 The Red Train

This morning you will catch the Red Train and travel from charming Rivesaltes to the small town of Axat in France. The brightly coloured carriages of the train stand out against the dense green vegetation of the Pyrenees, and from your open-top carriage, you can breathe in the fresh mountain air. Admire panoramic views of the breathtaking scenery as you travel past picturesque vineyards, through tunnels, and over bridges and viaducts. After the journey, you'll have free time to enjoy a spot of lunch and on the way back to Roses if time permits, you'll stop at La Jonquera, a large shopping mall on the border between France and Spain. B,D

Day 6 Núria Valley Rack Railway

We're staying in Spain today, where you'll enjoy another fantastic trip by rail into the mountains. This time it's an electric cog train which takes you into the Núria Valley. In fact, the railway is the only form of transport here. As you journey into the heart of the area, you'll get an idea of the enormity of the valley. Keep your eyes peeled for deer or marmot, and listen to your guide who will tell you more about this remote and spectacularly beautiful area. In the summer months, it is a haven for wildlife and a popular destination for walkers. In the winter months it is a ski resort. B,D

Day 7 Figueres

You'll make more discoveries today, but this time they'll be on foot in the delightful town of Figueres, the birthplace of Salvador Dali. What you'll find here is an intriguing Old Town with a laid-back atmosphere. After a stroll, we'll head inside the Dali Theatre and Museum where you can see many famous works by the surrealist painter. Dali is also buried here and his crypt is under the stage. Your tour ends at Perelada Castle, where you'll enjoy a tasting of four different types of wine including cava, take a tour of the cellars and visit its museum.  B, D

Day 8 Barcelona - UK

Today we'll transfer you to the airport for your return flight to the UK. B

Additional information -   If the Yellow Train is not operational, the alternative days content will include a boat trip on the Lake of Banyoles and Little Town train in Besalu.

What are travellers saying about tourhub.

Excellent tour company with quick service and support. We loved that there is 100% refund if you had to change anything as long as your within certain time limits. A very professional company with a huge selection of different tours and several dates to choose from.

The staff at TourHub were very responsive to all of my questions and more! They provided me with all the information I needed to book our trip in a very short period of time. I am very impressed with this company and looking forward to our tour in 2025!

I have never been much of a tour person, but this company offers so many options! I love the fact that they consolidate many options so that you have all the adventures in one location.

Customer service was prompt in responding to any questions I had, and offering suggestions on tour options. Looking forward to our adventure in September!

I love that each destination and hotel accommodation is listed. Makes planning or even deciding to take the trip so much easier. Each time I emailed a question, I got a response right away. So far, I'm very impressed and looking forward to the trip that we booked for next year.

I just heard about tourhub. What a fantastic collection of holidays. I booked a holiday to Morocco and had a few questions, for which I received prompt and useful responses. Would highly recommend
