Group of Temples, Kiramchi

Kiramchi is a small village in Udhampur district of Jammu & Kashmir State. It lies 12 kms north of Udhampur on Udhampur-Lander road and 67 kms from Jammu. The complex consists of five temples and two small shrines. This valley amidst green mountains is located at an elevation of 730 m above the mean sea level. Two rivulets namely "Birunala" and Kiramchi are draining thisarea. The local tradition says that in the past it was a halting place on Jammu- Kashmir route through Banihal . According to the contemporary of Pandavas of Mahabharata was responsible to lay the foundation of this place. Another tradition ,says that Kiramchi was capital of Bhuti which had been one of the principalities of Jammu region under the successors of Daya-Karan, a ruler of Kashmir. According to Diwan Narsingh Dass Nargis the descendents of king Daya- Karan ruled for many centuries and their dynasty was known as "Bhutials". As per tradition the last ruler of this dynasty named "Himmat Singh" was defeated by the Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Ultimately The Bhuti was given to Raja Gulab Singh . Thus Bhuti was included in to the Jammu Kingdom in A.D. 1834. The group of temples at Krimachi has been built over the elevated terrace of Biru Nala.

The Sudh Mahadev & Mantalai Temple

This highly revered Shiva temple is located at a distance of 42 Kms from Patnitop and 112 Kms from Jammu. Legend has it that after bathing at a spring called Gouri Kund, just short of Sudh Mahadev ,the Goddess Parvati would worship the Shivling here that is believed to be at least 3000 years old. The temple also houses a black marble statue of local Shiva and Parvati .A trishul of Lord Shiva is also preserved here. Pilgrims in large number visit the shrine on the full moon night of Sawan to participate in the festival to worship Lord Shiva. The mystical underground stream,Devak believed to be as sacred as the Ganges originates at Sudh Mahadev and disappears among the rocks some distance downstream. Also, of interest, are wooden sculptures, crafted locally. Accommodation is available in Tourist Sarai managed by J&K Tourism Development Corporation and Dharamshala managed by the Dharamarth Trust. A few kilometers further ahead of Sudh Mahadev is Mantalai(1450 meters) surrounded by lush Deodar forests. As per legend, it is the place where lord Shiva got married to goddess Parvati. Besides the Shiv temple, here one can also visit the complex created by Swami Dhirendra Brhamchari which includes a tree shaped house, an air strip, a hostel and a number of other unfinished project. An excursion through the woods to Naina Devi 5 Kms from Mantalai provides excellent views of the mountain landscape all around.

Pingla Mata Shrine

Pingla Mata is situated at a small hillock in village Pinger in Ramnagar Tehsil, about 20 Kms from Udhampur on Udhampur-Ramnagar Road and has been gaining popularity since last few years. The Holy Shrine is about 6 Kms away from the village Kaua on the Domail-Ramnagar Road and is linked with the track. The Shrine consists of small cave where the divine power lies in the shape of Pindies. The cave of Pingla Mata seems a small hole from outside but it has as much space inside as to accommodate at least 500 people at a time. Though the journey is tough yet it does not tire the devotees because of scenic beauty throughout. The entire track consists of lush green pine trees which inspire the devotees to moveon. As per the popular legend, some shepherds of Pinger village used to come to this jungle for grazing their cattle. A girl used to provide them food everyday but had warned them that this must not be disclosed to anyone. As such they never felt the necessity to take meals at home. Their parents were worried as to why they do not take meal at home. One day the villager followed their children and watched them in the jungle. They saw a girl serving food to the shepherds and then disappeared in a nearby cave. Another legend some hunters came to this jungle for hunting and they saw a lion entering the cave. They collected some firewood and burnt it at the mouth of the cave. But within no time the hunters were astonished to see that the lion came out of the cave after piercing the big rock. Then they entered entered the cave and saw Mata there. Light can be seen coming from this narrow hole in the cave from where the lion had gone out.

Naag Temple, Patnitop

The Nag Temple of Patnitop is more than 600 years old and dedicated to god of Serpents. This famous temple is nestled amidst lush greenery and snow clad mountain ranges. Thousands of pilgrims make their way to the temple during Naag Panchami festival. The temple holds an important part of the itineraries for those who visit Patnitop and Sanasar in their holiday.

The Ramnagar Fort

Ramnagar is situated on the left bank of Kud river in mid Himalayan range, about 40 Kms west of Udhampur. Ramnagar also served as the capital of old Bandarlta State. During the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, it came under Sikh rule and Raja Suchet Singh, the brother of Raja Gulab Singh of Jammu became its ruler in 1822 A.D. Raja Suchet Singh besides being a valiant general was also a great connoisseur of arts. He took much interest in Ramnagar and built the places Shish Mahal and Purana Mahal. He also renovated the fort situated in the town. The Nawa Mahal complex was built by Raja Ram Singh, who succeeded to the Ramnagar throne in A.D. 1844. He was son of Ranbir Singh who became Maharaja of Ranbir Singh who became Maharaja of J&K in 1856 A.D. Raja Suchet Singh died in A.D. 1844 near Lahore and it is believed that the queen of Suchet Singh performed sati near the fort. There is also a Samadhi of Maharani in this fort at the site where the sati was performed. Tourists can reach this fort by using a narrow bridge over the moat. The fort was renovated and undertaken by the Archaeological Survey of India in 1972.The palace complex at Ramnagar comprises of Shish Mahal, Purana Mahal & Nawa Mahal which are close to each other.

Moungri cave shrines.

In the ancient times, the village Moungri was known as Sonara. The word Sonara means a land of hundred water springs. In Dogri language, water spring is called Naaras. According to the legend, it was an abode of Nag Devta (King of the snakes), and once hundreds of natural stone made water springs used to flow. Still at present, a number of such water springs found in the area. According to another ancient legend, associated with the Kansar Shrine, a small stone shrine of Lord Shiva was discovered by an irate local villager. To remove the impediment in the process of cultivation, agriculture being the mainstay of the local population, the stone structure was uprooted and flung into the Kansar stream. But as soon as this was done calamity befell on the helpless villagers. Then the shrine was hurried retrieved from the rivulet bed and a temple was erected on a nearby hilltop by the rural folks. The temple still stands as a testimony to their labors. Moungri Cave Shrines-village Moungri-Sonara-land of hundred water springs-abode of Nag Devta -Panchari Block of District Udhampur-Shri Swatantra Dev Kotwal-Shiv Parvati Cave Shrine-nine and half feet high naturally formed rock Shiv Lingam-Joint Parvati Lingam -Damroo-Nandi- Shankhas- Amrit Kund -Kansar Shrine.

Said to be constructed in 11 th or 12 th century, the temples in Krimchi , also known as the Pandava Temples , carry historical significance through the Hindu mythology of Mahabharata. The seven antediluvian temples here, four large temples and three small ones, are dedicated to Lord Shiva . They are situated atop a stone complex with tiny streams flowing close by. The abstract and intricate architecture of the temples suggest a strong Greek influence. They comprise of sculptures of various Hindu Gods and Goddesses including Ganesha, Parvati, Shiva etc. It is believed that the Pandavas stayed here for some period of time during their exile. The main temple in the complex stands 50 feet tall shrouded in amazing architecture. Located 19 kilometres from Patnitop , the lovely region of Sanasar is named after two tiny lakes of ‘ Sana ’ and ‘ Sar ’ at an elevation of over 2000 metres. A site known for offering thrilling adventure activities, Sanasar offers rock climbing, abseiling, paragliding, trekking, para-sailing hot-air ballooning etc. One of the remotest areas of the state, Sanasar is an unblemished destination of wondrous meadows and dense cover of forests. Lok Sabha elections 2024: The Lok Sabha polls in the Union Territory will be held in the first five phases on April 19 (Udhampur), April 26 (Jammu), May 7 (Anantnag-Rajouri), May 13 (Srinagar) and May 20 (Baramulla).

A day after Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced its decision to field candidates for all three Lok Sabha seats in the Valley, Omar Abdullah told media that his party and the Congress will fight the Lok Sabha elections jointly.

He said that the NC President Farooq Abdullah is campaigning for the Congress candidates in the Jammu division and that the Congress has assured support to the NC in the Valley.

He said that the picture would be clear in a few days since Congress is likely to come up with an announcement in this regard.

When will J-K vote? 

The Lok Sabha polls in the Union Territory will be held in the first five phases on April 19 (Udhampur), April 26 (Jammu), May 7 (Anantnag-Rajouri), May 13 (Srinagar) and May 20 (Baramulla).

The counting of votes will be taken up on June 4 (Tuesday). 

PDP to contest Lok Sabha elections alone

In another jolt to the fledgling I.N.D.I.A bloc, People's Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti announced on Wednesday (April 4) that they will pitch their candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The development came after National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah said that they would be contesting elections for all three seats in Kashmir.

"In Mumbai, I said, Farooq Abdullah is our best representative and he will take the call. Omar Abdullah should have discussed the same with me for greater interest, we were not going to fight over parliamentary elections," Mufti told reporters in Srinagar.

"But the way Omar Abdullah said, PDP doesn't exist and is nowhere, hurt us. The BJP broke my party completely but Omar's statement made my workers disappointed. Now my workers are calling me and telling me that we should also pitch our candidates," Mufti said.

"I'm disappointed with what Omar Abdullah said about the PDP," she added. The former CM further confirmed that her party would now enter the contest on its own."All the agencies are after my workers, so I felt my workers were humiliated by Omar Abdullah's statement," the former Chief Minister alleged."We will pitch our candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections," Mufti told media.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Is this the end of INDIA bloc in Kashmir? PDP & NC to contest against each other in the valley

Former j&k chief minister mehbooba mufti on april 3, said her pdp is holding discussions among its leaders and workers about contesting the three lok sabha seats of the kashmir valley..

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC), both part of the INDIA bloc in Jammu and Kashmir, will compete against each other in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the three seats in the Kashmir valley.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on April 3, Wednesday, said that the PDP is engaged in discussions with its leaders and workers about contesting the three Lok Sabha seats of the Kashmir Valley. 

Mufti's statement comes after the NC announced the candidature of senior party leader Mian Altaf Ahmed Lahrvi from the Anantnag-Rajouri seat of Jammu and Kashmir, virtually ending chances of an alliance with the PDP in the Valley. 

Pertinently, NC chief Farooq Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti attended the INDIA bloc's show-of-strength ‘Loktantra Bachao’ rally in New Delhi on March 31.

PDP has accused NC vice president Omar Abdullah of leaving them "no option". Abdullah, however, hit back saying the PDP was going back on the understanding reached between the constituents of People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) for the District Development Council (DDC) elections in 2020.

"They (NC) have left no option for us other than to field candidates and contest the elections," Mufti told reporters on Wednesday. The party's parliamentary board would take a final call on the candidates, she added.

While holding talks with the Congress on seat-sharing in Jammu and Kashmir, the NC had made it clear that they will be contesting the three valley seats as they had won these in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 

The three seats were won by the NC in 2019. The party left two seats in Jammu - Udhampur and Jammu - for the Congress as part of the INDIA bloc's seat-sharing agreement.

Mufti, who lost the Anantnag seat in 2019, said the attitude of the NC leadership was disappointing and hurtful.

"When the INDI alliance's meeting took place in Mumbai, I said there that since (NC president) Farooq Abdullah is our senior leader, he will take a decision (on seat-sharing) and will do justice. I had hoped he would keep the party interests aside," she said.

But the NC took the decision to contest all the three seats in Kashmir unilaterally, she added.

Omar Abdullah, in the meanwhile, blamed the PDP of going back on the understanding reached for the DDC polls where the parties having won the seats would field their candidates.

"What can I say about this? It is their own will. How can I stop them? We announced candidates for the three seats of Kashmir based on their own formula," the former chief minister of the erstwhile state said. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi -led Union government revoked Article 370 , which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcated it into the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, on August 5, 2019.

The voting in J ammu and Kashmir will be held in five phases beginning April 19 and the counting of the votes will take place on June 4.

Assembly Polls to the erstwhile state, administered by the Centre-appointed Lieutenant Governor since 2018, are likely to be held later this year.
