Best Alligator Tours Orlando

I know how amazing an experience it is getting to see alligators in the wild, it’s incredible. But you want to take a good tour. Nothing is worse than taking a tour that leaves you with a bad experience- it can completely ruin a whole day. This list only features the best of the best alligator tours in Orlando that I have taken myself and I can assure you that they will live up to the hype.

1. Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Wild Florida Admission with Optional Lunch

A picture of an alligator with its head just above the water during an alligator tour fro Orlando.

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (1700+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 0.5-1 hour | 🐊 BOOK NOW

The highest-rated and most popular alligator tour Orlando is the Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Wild Florida Admission with Optional Lunch which has an extremely impressive 1700+ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reviews.

Review which says "The captain was awesome and informative. It was great spotting baby alligators and a couple big ones. Loved seeing all the birds and different flowers that grew wild. Definitely a must see, will be back myself. The pulled pork was fabulous and enjoyed the animals park and safari as well."

When taking a tour, no matter what tour it is or where in the world it is, I always like to go with the tried and tested option. No one wants to book a tour that hasn’t got any reviews, right? This tour has more than passed the test of time. You don’t get a 5/5 rating after nearly 2000 reviews by chance – this tour is top quality.

Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Wild Florida Admission with Optional Lunch is the first alligator tour I took in Orlando, and I’ve re-visited on multiple occasions I enjoyed it so much.

The tour is an airboat tour, which is a type of boat that glides over the water rather than through the water thanks to the huge fan on the back. I’m not too sure how else to explain it.

It’s through the Everglades and leaves you with lots of opportunities to see wild alligators. From my experience, this tour features the highest density of alligators. One time on a 30-minute tour, I saw 6 or 7 gators, maybe even more. That’s so many!

Speaking of the length of the tour, you have the option of a 30-minute or a 60-minute tour. I would recommend the full-hour tour, because the longer you have exploring the Everglades looking for gators, the better.

Getting to see alligators in the wild is a memorable experience and one that not everyone gets to experience.

If you buy this tour, entry to Wild Florida’s gator park is also included. It’s my favourite animal park in Florida, beating Busch Gardens and Gator World. There’s so much on offer. From the drive-thru safari to the personal animal encounters, you’re guaranteed a great time at the park after you’ve taken your alligator airboat tour. There are also alligator shows and the option to feed some gators. It’s not to be missed!

Wild Florida is approximately 40 minutes or so from Orlando, but it’s more than worth the drive. You will find that it’s not really possible to take an alligator tour in the heart of Orlando because it’s a city. Instead, the Everglades is where most tours take place.

I genuinely can’t recommend this tour, and Wild Florida enough. If you’re looking for the best alligator tour in Orlando, you’ve found it. It’s Florida Everglades Airboat Tour and Wild Florida Admission with Optional Lunch .

2. 90-min Everglades Airboat Tour in Central Florida

A picture of an alligator lurking in the water

⭐ RATING: 5 out of 5 Stars (750+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 1.5 hours | 🐊 BOOK NOW

If you are looking for a longer Orlando alligator tour, then 90-min Everglades Airboat Tour in Central Florida is the tour for you.

orlando florida alligator tours

This is the longest tour in this article , lasting a whopping 90 minutes (1 hour and 30 minutes). Taking a tour this long provides you with the opportunity to see so many wild alligators.

Seeing the fascinating creatures in the wild is a completely different experience to seeing alligators in captivity. It’s much more natural and feels more rewarding too. Nothing beats the feeling of spotting an alligator for yourself- especially if you manage to spot one before your tour guide!

90-min Everglades Airboat Tour in Central Florida is also incredibly high-rated, with a rating of 5 out of 5 after over 750 reviews. Just like the last tour, it’s more than passed the test of time. Seeing such a high rating from previous travellers should be enough assurance that this is a good tour.

Aside from seeing the wild alligators, the feeling of riding an airboat is also exhilarating. The thrill of gliding over the water with the wind blowing in your face and the gorgeous Floridian sun shining down is amazing. I’d still take an airboat ride in a boring lake with no alligators!

But honestly, this tour is great too. The offer to see gators in their natural habitat is one not to be missed out on. And taking an airboat tour is the best way to do so. The guides’ commentary is both entertaining and educational with lots of things to learn about, and they will point out any alligators they spot so you don’t miss any.

To have the most time exploring the Everglades and searching for wild alligators, book the 90-min Everglades Airboat Tour in Central Florida which is the longest tour on this list.

3. Orlando: Boggy Creek Airboat Ride with Options

A picture of an alligator in the swaps of the Everglades during an Orlando alligator tour.

⭐ RATING: 4.7 out of 5 Stars (300+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 0.5-1 hour | 🐊 BOOK NOW

Another solid alligator tour in Orlando option is the Orlando: Boggy Creek Airboat Ride with Options which still has a very impressive rating of 4.7/5. The quality across the board of all of these Everglades airboat tours is excellent.

Review which says "The boat ride was really fun. The guide was courteous and informative. We saw gators and several types of birds on our tour. The lunch was good and our two grandsons enjoyed the gem mining activity. We all enjoyed the butterfly enclosure. The butterflies were beautiful and we enjoyed them sitting on our finger eating nectar. It was a fun and low key afternoon well worth the entry price."

As the name suggests, Orlando: Boggy Creek Airboat Ride with Options offers lots of different tour options and add-ons. Firstly, you can choose from a 30-minute or a 60-minute tour. Again, I recommend the longer option.

But you can also pay for a private tour. It’s the most exclusive way of exploring the Everglades and allows for a more personal and luxurious experience. Note that normal airboat rides include up to 15 people usually.

Some tours include lunch, and other options include a sunset tour and a night tour. These are such unique opportunities and an entirely different tour from during the day. The sunset tour is pretty much just the same as the day tour but with a nice scenic sunset during the swamp tours.

But the night tour is where things start to get spicy. Alligators are nocturnal, meaning they are awake during the night. Taking an airboat ride at night allows you to see even more gators than during the day. It’s also quite exciting riding through alligator-infested waters at night when you can’t see much. It’s a true adventure. But seeing the alligators with the shine of a torch is a special feeling.

You can also opt for tours which include access to the rest of Boggy Creek, a lesser-known park, but one that I would consider underrated. There’s a butterfly garden, a Native American village, a fossil and gem mine and more. Some tours include mining for gems which is super fun for kids!

If you’re looking for an alligator tour in Orlando that offers a little bit more, then Orlando: Boggy Creek Airboat Ride with Options is the best choice for you.

4. Central Florida Everglades Airboat Tour from Orlando

A picture of an alligator swimming in open water in the Everglades

⭐ RATING: 4.5 out of 5 Stars (125+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 5 hours | 🐊 BOOK NOW

If you want a hassle-free alligator tour from Orlando that picks you up from the city and drops you off afterwards, take a look at the Central Florida Everglades Airboat Tour from Orlando .

Review which says "It was incredible! Definitely would do it again! Saw so many amazing animals in the wild! The air boat was so much fun and our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable!"

This tour offers pick-ups from Orlando, Disney and Kissimmee and takes you to the Everglades for your airboat tour and wild gator spotting. Then, afterwards, it drops you right back to where it picked you up. It’s super convenient and avoids all the hassle of making it to the Everglades yourself.

Depending on the day, it will either take you to Wild Florida, or to Boggy Creek , meaning you get to experience all of the amazing things listed above. Note that the 5-hour tour length begins when you are picked up and ends when you are dropped off, it is not the length of the actual airboat tour.

You can choose to book either a half-hour or full-hour airboat tour.

During an airboat ride, as well as being able to spot alligators lurking in the swampy waters, there’s an opportunity to see lots of other incredible wildlife. I’ve been lucky enough to see a bald eagle on a few occasions…it was unreal. Seeing an animal in the wild with such huge symbolic meaning and what the animal represents was special, even for someone like me who isn’t American.

Another common spotting is turtles , which are also pretty fun to see in the wild. As well as so many different species of birds, and lots of other fascinating wildlife. If you love animals, you will love an airboat tour.

Believe it or not, some people actually don’t know there are alligators in Orlando. They’re everywhere in Florida! People also don’t know very often that they’re in Tampa too.

But there’s no better place to see them than in the Everglades!

For an alligator tour from Orlando that brings you to and from the Everglades, definitely book the Central Florida Everglades Airboat Tour from Orlando .

5. Orlando: Wild Florida Everglades Airboat & Wildlife Park

A picture of an alligator swimming during an everglades airboat tour

⭐ RATING: 4.7 out of 5 Stars (335+ reviews) | ⌛ TOUR LENGTH: 0.5-1 hour | 🐊 BOOK NOW

Last but by no means least of these alligator tours Orlando is Orlando: Wild Florida Everglades Airboat & Wildlife Park . And it really is a case of “last but not least”, with over 300 reviews averaging at 4.7/5 stars.

Review which says "Great Day Out - Easy uber ride from Orlando and took around 30 minutes. The staff were helpful and friendly. We saw lots of wildlife and had fun on the airboat. We saw lots of Alligators as well as amazing bird life including Eagles. Our guide was informative and we felt safe the entire time."

Once again, this airboat tour brings you to Wild Florida. By the way, Wild Florida is worth visiting on its own. As I said, it’s my favourite animal park in Florida, and I like it so much that I actually wrote a full post on a Wild Florida review if you would like more information.

But as much as I love the park itself, it would be a shame to visit without taking an airboat ride, but I imagine that’s what you’re on this article for anyway.

Wild Florida’s airboat tours all but guarantee that you will see wild gators. They have over 4,200 acres of, and I quote, “beautiful lush scenery, including protected swamps, marshes and rivers, at the heart of the Central Florida Everglades”.

This could not be more true. What’s so good about the airboat rides, is that on top of seeing American Alligators in their natural habitats, aside from all of the other wildlife and the thrill of an airboat ride, is that the landscape is incredible.

Florida’s Everglades offer some of the most amazing natural beauty I’ve ever seen. Admiring the greenery around me while travelling at speed gliding over the water through tall reed grass, lily pads and water flowers, surrounded by tall trees is one of my favourite memories from the airboat tours I have taken.

For an unforgettable tour, and the time of your life, book the Orlando: Wild Florida Everglades Airboat & Wildlife Park .

Testimonials

Client-1

We had a wonderful airboat ride tour. We saw a lot of alligators, learned some history and experienced all the capabilities of the air boat on land on water and through grass. We saw the awesome alligator infested bald Cedarwoods, Infested with alligators just like in the eerie movies. Chelsea was a great hostess, and a wonderful airboat operator. I highly recommend this tour. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Orlando area.

client-2

What a thrilling adventure !! We saw many large gators, beautiful birds and breathtaking scenery. Chelsea answered our calls and responded back promptly. She made it such a fun trip and stopped a few times to explain the history of the area and the animals. Would definitely highly recommend this trip to everyone. I can check that off my bucket list. Awesome!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our first airboat ride. Chelsea was a great guide, she gave us a lot of background information and pointed out lots of gators, and showed us a gator nursery that she had been watching herself, we were able to see lots of baby gators. If we spotted a gator, she would turn the boat around and try to catch them again for us. We had such a great time, that we will be back.

With Over 10,000 Reviews Online, We’re The Most Talked About Airboat Tour Anywhere In The World!

First trip to Florida and this was one of my things to go too. Awesome place for Swap Tours. Great people at the front office with a smile as you walk in. Captain Jim is the man. Very likable and great personality! We got to see an 8’ alligator which was pretty cool. Great job guys!

This was an absolutely great airboat tour. AJ was our guide, who was informative and humorous too! I had a keen interest in birding and he pointed out about 10+ species of birds including 4 bald eagles. We saw about 5-10 alligators during our visit. Would visit again & highly recommend!

Wild Willys was a great Airboat ride through the marshes. Saw several gators and lots of wildlife. The guide was knowledgable about the area and very friendly. The people inside were also very friendly and knowledgable. Definitely recommend.

The one-hour airboat ride was perfect. We saw a variety of wildlife. The speed of the boat (what I really came for) was good, some fast times, some slow times. I chose the 9am time to avoid the sun and heat, and that was perfect too. I highly recommend Wild Willy's.

Extremely Rare Gator Born at Gatorland!

It’s 70 years since Owen Godwin opened his first roadside gator attraction for tourists coming down to Central Florida from the North. The good news is they’re still coming, and more than ever before. The self-proclaimed ‘Alligator Capital of The World’, Gatorland is home to hundreds of Florida’s original residents (the long scaly kind!). Although some of the tourist kitch remains, the family-owned park has gotten very serious about conservation of these remarkable animals and their crocodile cousins. Breeding programs are used with great success to ensure the reproduction of not only Florida’s alligators but also endangered species like the ferocious Cuban Crocodile. The focal point of the park is the Breeding Marsh, a natural Cypress swamp, where the main population of swamp dragons resides. A scenic wooden boardwalk gets you within snapping distance of these scaly sunbathers. Be sure to climb the observation tower for an excellent view of the park and surrounding area.

Stompin’ Gator Off-Road Adventure

On the all-new Stompin’ Gator Off-Road Adventure Gatorland guests can now board one of three, 12-foot-high custom-made, off-road monster vehicles for a 15-minute rugged and hilarious adventure like no other theme park ride anywhere. This exciting ride is chocked full of wacky new Gatorland characters, singing tour guides, swampy adventure, and, of course, lots of alligators. Each vehicle is specially branded and named after iconic real alligators and crocodiles at Gatorland, including Bonecrusher, Cannibal Jake, and Swamp Ghost.

Screamin’ Gator Zip Line

Clip-in and zip off on an exciting outdoor adventure on the thrilling Screamin’ Gator Zip Line at Gatorland. Your journey will take you along 1,200 feet of high flying, heart-pounding adventure from some of the finest zip line towers in the world. Standing over seven stories tall, these amazing towers feature multilevel launch pads and breathtaking views from high above the treetops. Soar through the air over some of the park’s star attractions, including Cuban and Nile Crocodiles, before flying over the Alligator Breeding Marsh complete with 130 giant alligators below!

Adventure Hour

Venture into the Alligator Breeding Marsh for this behind-the-scenes tour you’ll never forget. This area is closed to the public except for those who take part in this daring trip into the swamp! Home to hundreds of alligators, you’ll have the opportunity to safely venture within a few feet of hungry, giant alligators and create a thrilling feeding frenzy. Then pose for the cameras in front of your dinner companions, and be glad you weren’t dinner.

Gator Night Shine

Your Gator Night Shine adventure takes you deep into the domain of Florida’s most famous reptile, the alligator! Armed with only a flashlight and a few hot dogs, you bravely make your way along the winding wooden walkways of Gatorland’s Alligator Breeding Marsh. The sounds of the night come alive around you as the rustle of feathers overhead and the splashing of water nearby signal that you are not alone Turning your flashlight towards the water, you suddenly become aware of hundreds of hungry, glowing, red eyes slowly making their way closer… it’s now your turn to experience the “Real Florida.”

Trainer For A Day

The day begins meeting some of the smallest members of our Gatorland family. Have you ever held a baby alligator? Well here’s your chance. How about a backstage tour that gets you up close and personal with some of our largest alligators and crocodiles? You’ll get to do that too! Next is a hands-on meeting with some of our reptiles and creepy crawlers from our Up-close Encounters Show.

Think you’re done? You’re not, because our grand finale is working with our Gatorland trainer in the Gator Wrestling Arena, and those animals are wild! Don’t worry your trainer will keep you safe but you’ll get to learn about and experience these big boys and have some fun doing it. Be prepared for the unexpected with this exclusive Gatorland Trainer-for-a-Day package!

Shows & Encounters

Gatorland offers a unique, Florida cracker-style alligator wrestling show in a shaded 800-seat stadium.  The Gator Wrestlin’ makes you realize just what some people will do for money. Gator wranglers catch a 6 to 8-foot alligator by hand, climb onto its back and point out interesting survival features. After doing stunts that only a few are brave (or foolish) enough to try, the alligator is rolled over and put to sleep – only to be awakened by a tickle! Guests can have their photo taken with one of the participants. Guess which one!

By far the most unique show is the Jumparoo . Hungry gators leap for chicken appetizers encouraged by the cheers of a fascinated audience. Note that the feeder is chained to his podium to avoid becoming dessert! Don’t miss the very unusual White Gator Exhibit – they are NOT albino they are leucistic (go look it up!) – and Panther Spring where you can get up close with Neiko and Lucy, two stunning examples of this beautiful and endangered species.

Make sure you see Upclose Animal Encounters Show , featuring snakes, spiders and lots of toothy grins (that’s just the handlers)! Befriend fascinating creatures from around the globe, including some of the most dangerous snakes alive!

  • Breeding Marsh – it’s very pretty in a ferocious kind of way!
  • White Gators – freaky and fascinating!
  • Up close Animal Encounters Show – as close as you want to get!
  • Jumparoo Show – you can’t escape without seeing this!
  • Gator Wrestling – getting to grips with some of the locals.
  • Stompin Gator Off Road –  rocking and a rolling!
  • Screaming Gator Zipline – you have to do it!
  • If you’re a keen birdwatcher, March through August a large nesting colony of egrets and herons are in residence as the gators protect the nests from raiding raccoons. You can get some great photos.
  • Take 30 minutes and let your kids cool off over at Gator Gully , a gator free water playground.

Is it suitable for kids?

Yes Gatorland is perfect for kids and young children, with the attractions being child-friendly, and the enthusiastic staff always going the extra mile to make your visit special.

Watch out! These are the most gator-infested lakes in Florida

Lake george, lake jesup listed in top 5.

Anthony Talcott , Digital Journalist

With over 1 million alligators estimated to live in Florida, it’s not a surprise to find one living in a body of water near you.

However, some lakes carry more alligators than others, according to A-Z Animals, which released its list of the most alligator-infested lakes in the state.

Recommended Videos

The top lake on the list was Lake Okeechobee, which makes sense, as it’s the largest lake in the state with a surface area of over 700 square miles.

According to the ranking, it’s large enough that researchers performing the alligator census have to break it up into different regions.

While Lake Okeechobee takes the top spot, there are still plenty of others to be wary of. The full ranking is as follows:

As a reminder: it’s against state law to kill or harass an alligator without a permit, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission generally suggests that people try to leave the animals alone if they’re able.

Come early!

Our park opens at 9:00 a.m. and there’s a lot to see. When traveling with a group, we recommend arriving early so you can experience everything our gator park, drive-thru safari, animal shows and encounters have to offer.

Book your excursions ahead of time

Make your travel experience a good one by planning ahead! You can purchase tickets for each of our attractions online, in-person, or by phone prior to your arrival.

Plan meal times and regroup

Lunch is a great time to rest, refuel, and regroup. You can bring in your own picnic baskets or savor some of the best barbecue and food the swamp has to offer from the Chomp House Grill. Wash it down with our Swamp Slushy – a frozen blend of mango, orange and passion fruit and you’ve got what we like to call a well-balanced meal.

We are sensitive to the diverse dietary needs and allergy concerns of our guests. Your well-being and enjoyment are of paramount importance to us, and we are committed to providing you with a safe, satisfying, and memorable experience. Please let us know about any dietary or allergy restrictions you may have, and our team will do its utmost to ensure that your needs are met.

Exotic Animal Shows at Our Gator Park

See alligators live and up close at one of our wildlife shows! Our star of the show, Crusher, is an American alligator who is over 13 feet long. You may have seen alligators in Florida, but you’ve never seen Crusher. Show times are twice a day, at 11 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.

What You’ll See on Your Wildlife Safari

You’ll see native Florida wildlife and exotic animals on your drive. Find giraffes, zebras, eland antelope, scimitar oryx, American bison, mouflon sheep and more. Our animals roam freely through natural habitats, allowing you to get up close and personal.

Precautions

It’s important to consider the weather when booking an airboat tour in Florida. During the summer months and hurricane season, afternoon rains are common. If your airboat tour is impacted by rain or storms, our team will try to contact you by the phone number or email you used to book your airboat tour.

We know you want to meet our WILD family, so we offer services that help all our guests enjoy their visit.

GUIDELINES FOR SERVICE ANIMALS

  • We welcome guests with disabilities who choose to bring their trained service animal into Wild Florida. A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for someone living with a disability. According to the ADA, service animals must be under the owner’s control at all times and should remain on a leash or in a harness. While in the Drive-thru Safari Park, your vehicle windows must remain up at all times. While in the Gator Park or on an Airboat Tour, the service animal must be on a leash at all times. Emotional support and service animals in training are not allowed entry into the Drive-thru Safari Park or Gator Park. While emotional support animals are often used to help with medical or emotional challenges, they are not considered service animals under the ADA.

Service Animals Accessibility Map

  • Service animals may not enter interactive habitats, including the giraffe feeding encounter, lemur encounter, sloth encounter, or porcupine encounter and are not allowed in the petting zoo or walk-thru bird aviary. These specific animals may view dogs as a threat and may become scared or stressed in the presence of a service animal.

ORLANDO AIRBOAT RIDES

Wheelchair Accessibility for Airboat Tours

  • Our loading dock is ADA compliant and our Florida airboat tours are accessible by a wheelchair-friendly ramp that runs from the back of the gift shop down to the airboat loading docks. However, there are a few steps from the dock to the airboat where the guest will need to be physically transferred from the wheelchair to the airboat.

Wheelchair Accessibility for Gator Park

  • Our Gator Park is also wheelchair-friendly as every exhibit is at ground level and the paths inside our Gator Park are compacted shells, boardwalk and concrete.

Wild Florida is dedicated to providing all its guests with equal enjoyment and a wonderful experience. If you have additional questions regarding our park’s accessibility policies, feel free to reach out to us at 407-957-3135 or by giving us a call on our toll-free number at 1-866-532-7167 .

Wow your group with the sights and sounds of more than 200 native and exotic animals, like ring-tailed lemurs, two-toed sloths, and more! Our Gator Pond is home to more than 150 freshwater alligators and crocodiles who were either born at Wild Florida or declared “nuisance” alligators brought to Wild Florida with the help of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), some of which are larger than 13 feet!

Savor the delight of a refreshing Wild Florida icy slushie or indulge in the creamy goodness of an ice cream cone.

Safety Precautions

Safety at Wild Florida is our number one priority, and we are committed to the health, safety and well-being of our guests, staff and animals. Here are a few safety points and plans for our guests and animals.

We provide life jackets and ear protection for all guests. Children five and under are required to wear a life jacket. For guests six years old and over, life jackets are available along with ear protection, but they are not required.

  • Wild Florida has a stellar reputation when it comes to our airboat tours. Our vessels are U.S. Coast Guard approved and inspected on an annual basis. On the vessels are life preservers for each guest, fire extinguishers, a flare gun and a throw ring if necessary.
  • In case of an emergency, we have an accident plan.
  • We have an incident report if needed.
  • Our loading dock is ADA Compliant.
  • There is always a way to communicate to home base and/or 911 anywhere on site or while out on an airboat tour.

You can get up close and personal with many different animals including alligators, zebras and exotic birds. Our park is inspected and approved by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) , United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) , and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) , which makes it a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • In case of a snake bite, we have a snake bite protocol.
  • Our animals are checked regularly by a veterinarian.
  • We have a veterinarian on call at all times.
  • We have an accident plan for emergencies.

See a side of Florida you won’t see at the parks. Experience untouched landscapes and acres of wildlife. Whether you’re an adventure travel enthusiast, a group of avid bird watches, or a family on their dream vacation, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories at Wild Florida.

At Wild Florida, we have an on-site restaurant where you can dine during your visit. If you’re curious to try a taste of the swamp, stop by the Chomp House Grill. Whether cooling off with our signature Swamp Slushy or chowing down on some of the best barbecue around, a visit to Wild Florida isn’t complete until you’ve had a treat from our restaurant.

Whether you are an adventurous carnivore who wants to try our Swamp Platter featuring gator and catfish or you enjoy lighter fare like salads and fresh veggies, the Chomp House Grill has something to please every palate. Can’t find anything on the menu to your liking? Talk to our Executive Chef, and she can whip something up for you.

Things To Do

Subscriber only, travel | floridian fun, history abound at st. augustine alligator farm.

Animal enthusiasts and curious explorers can be transported to five continents through educational exhibits and encounters with crocodilians — all without leaving Florida.

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park is home to 24 species of crocodilians from as far away as Africa, Asia and Australia, exotic birds and mammals, Florida native reptiles and more. One of the state’s oldest continuously operating attractions, the park opened in 1893 and has welcomed visitors ever since.

When visitors enter the park, they first see albino alligators and the main lagoon where dozens of alligators bask in the sun and await daily feeding shows, much to the delight of visitors.

The zoo is divided into distinct areas, starting with the Land of Crocodiles — where crocodiles, caimans and alligators from around the world wait in their pools and soak up the sun’s rays. Some of these endangered species have long snouts and razor-sharp teeth, harkening prehistoric times.

The Birds of Africa display includes Cape Griffon vultures, hooded vultures and Marabou storks, which are all neighbors to the lemurs of Madagascar and Galapagos turtles.

Tucked in the back corner of the park, visitors can meander along a boardwalk at the native swamp and rookery where herons, egrets, spoonbills and storks make their nests right above alligators in the lagoon.

An indoor exhibit gives guests a welcome reprieve from the heat and tells the story of Gomek, a behemoth of a saltwater crocodile who was captured in Papua New Guinea and lived at the park until he died in 1997. The animal measured 17 feet, 9 inches and weighed almost 2,000 lbs.

After Gomek reigned over the park, the St. Augustine attraction became home to Maximo, a massive 15-foot-3-inch, 1,250-pound saltwater crocodile from Australia, who can be seen in an underwater enclosure with his mate, Sydney.

As many animals and birds resemble the age of the dinosaurs, the park is also home to Florida native reptiles, snakes and a Komodo dragon.

Special programs include Florida’s Forest Friends, a hands-on program focused on the Sunshine State’s environment, “Realm of the Alligator,” a “Scales and Tails Reptile Show,” the Rainforest Review and, of course, the daily alligator feeding.

For especially daring adventurers, the park also offers the Crocodile Crossing zip line attraction where guests can soar over live alligators and crocodiles with two different courses available. The adjacent Python Challenge is a 40-foot climbing tower with a rock wall, a cargo net climb and a rope climb.

From family fun outings to school field trips, the St. Augustine Alligator Farm promises a day full of exciting encounters and plenty of opportunities to learn about ancient reptiles.

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoological Park is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, with extended hours until 6 p.m. from Memorial Day to Labor Day, at 999 Anastasia Blvd. in St. Augustine. Tickets are $35.99 per adult, $20.99 per child ages 3-11 with discounts for visitors in wheelchairs. AAA members, military and seniors receive a 10% discount. The park has food and beverages available for purchase on-site. Pets are not allowed except for service animals. For more information, call 904-824-3337 or visit alligatorfarm.com .

UF student held without bond after stabbing mother 70 times

Emmanuel espinoza was charged with first-degree murder, destroying or tampering evidence.

orlando florida alligator tours

UF pre-med student Emmanuel Espinoza, 21, was charged with first-degree murder and destroying or tampering with physical evidence April 6 after stabbing his mother over 70 times.

Emmanuel Espinoza first appeared in court April 7 for the charges. His bond for destroying or tampering with evidence is set to $5,000, and he received no bond for first degree murder.

His mother, 46-year-old Elvia Espinoza, agreed to host her youngest child, Emmanuel Espinoza, so he could visit his grandfather that weekend.

Elvia Espinoza worked as a second-grade teacher at Ben Hill Griffin Elementary School in Polk County and was a mother of three children.

“I want you to understand she really was the perfect mom,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd .

Elvia Espinoza’s daughter Marisol Longo told WTSP she was a supportive mother who taught inside and outside of the classroom.

“She was always full of life,” Longo said. “She was always encouraging. She was our biggest supporter.”

When Emannuel Espinoza arrived in Frostproof, Florida, at 2 p.m., he put on headphones and played “No Church in the Wild” by Jay-Z and Kanye West as he stabbed Elvia Espinoza with his pocket knife after she opened the door, according to Judd.

Elvia Espinoza was on the phone with a family member at the time of the stabbing, and she ran from Emmanuel Espinoza as he continued to stab her until she fell to the floor.

When he saw Elvia Espinoza was still moving, he continued to stab her. While washing the pocket knife and the cut on his hand, Emmanuel Espinoza went to ask his mom for neosporin when he realized she was dead.

He then called 911 and confessed.

“I killed someone,” Emmanuel Espinoza said.

When asked how the event happened, Emmanuel Espinoza said, “I went in the door, and I stabbed my mom.”

Polk County Sheriff’s Office spoke with Emmanuel Espinoza he told them he had wanted to kill his mother for years because she “got on my nerves,” Judd said.

Emmanuel Espinoza said he loved his mother and rated their relationship an “eight out of 10,” but decided he would murder her on his drive home from Gainesville, Judd said.

Throughout his time in school, Elvia Espinoza sent money to Emmanuel Espinoza to allow him to live comfortably and focus on school.

He told police he knew where to stab his mother with “maximum effect” due to his education in biology classes.

Judd said Emmanuel Espinoza had no history of mental health issues and drug or alcohol abuse.

“No problems at all,” Judd said. “He was known as kind of being an introvert. Kind of a quiet guy. Zero issues.”

Emmanuel Espinoza’s only court appearance has been for his arraignment April 7. Future court dates have yet to be set as of April 14.

He moved to have an attorney appointed by the Public Defender’s Office. Emmanuel Espinoza is currently being held at the South County Jail in Polk County.

Steve Orlando, UF vice president of communications, confirmed Emmanuel Espinoza is still enrolled as a student at UF but declined a university comment on the situation. He has been trespassed from all UF campuses within Alachua County until 2027 .
