Manuel Antonio Park Tour REVIEWS

Mcdaniel doug.

A great trip from Jaco to this national park with a very friendly driver and knowledgeable guide who brought humor and in-depth dialog on the various species who live in the national park. He spotted and helped us get amazing photos through his binoculars of sloths, toucans and many unique creatures. The monkeys, iguanas and, of course, the beautiful beach and food supplied with the tour made for a great day. On our way back, he made an unscheduled roadside stop when he spotted a fantastic pair of Macaws which sat on a tree together so our whole group got their photos. A very special day trip.

Michael Kochendorfer

The entire tour was amazing and exactly as described in the tour description. The guides did a great job spotting various animals that we would have never noticed without them, and they did a great job explaining various things throughout the drive to the park and on the trails. Would definitely take this tour again.
We had a great time on this tour, pick was on time and the tour guides were awesome. Highly recommended.

My daughter will not stop talking about our time with Adventure Tours Costa Rica! At least 10 times a day she is asking to go back and see the monkeys and play on the beach. Im not going to lie, it’s kind of touching. I am so happy that her first vacation was such a memorable one. Next time I will have to make a little time to be able to go fishing. Great job guys, keep it up!
We booked several tours with this company and we couldn’t be happier. We did both Manuel Antonio and Carara tours as well as the aerial tram tour and white water rafting tours. 21 Things you NEED to know before visiting Manuel Antonio National Park

This blog may contain affiliate links. Read our disclosure policy for more info.

Known as one of the most  spectacular national parks in Costa Rica , Manuel Antonio National Park is a place you don’t want to pass by.

While it isn’t a huge park, it’s the perfect size to explore in a day. There are beautiful walking trails, lots of wildlife (including the adorable squirrel monkeys!), and stunning beaches to enjoy.

Visiting this national park is one of the  best things to do in Manuel Antonio town, and after visiting this beautiful place it’s easy to see why. The sprawling area is a mixture of rainforests and beaches that are full of animals, birds, and plants. You’ll have the chance to see monkeys, sloths, macaws, snakes, frogs, and more. It’s a different experience every time you go!

The park is simple to get to and close to the small town of Manuel Antonio, so it’s easy to base yourself in the area for a few days.

Whether you’re hiking along “The Sloth Trail” (and hopefully seeing a few sloths!) or spending some time relaxing on the beaches here, you’ll want to be prepared so you can make the most of your time. We’ve put together this Manuel Antonio National Park guide, so you’re prepared and will have the best time once you arrive.

1. About Manuel Antonio National Park

A sloth in Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National Park was established in 1972 as a way to protect this area of rainforest and all the animals inside. Back then, there were concerns about development overtaking it, so establishing the park ensured the area would remain as it is.

It’s the smallest national park in the country but one of the most popular. The park gets around 150,000 visitors every year! Visitors are limited daily though, which is why you should buy a ticket in advance (more details on that below.)

The park is filled with rainforests, mangroves, and beaches. There are incredible hiking trails and some of the   most beautiful beaches in all of Costa Rica  inside the park.

The animals and birds who live here will be one of the highlights of your visit, depending on what you spot! There are sloths, LOTS of monkeys, reptiles, and birds galore.

2. Where is Manuel Antonio National Park

A birds eye view of Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National Park is  located along Costa Rica’s Central Pacific coast . It’s about an hour’s drive from  Uvita  and three hours from San Jose, making it a  great day trip from San Jose !

The park is very close to the small towns of Manuel Antonio and Quepos. The park is literally right next to Manuel Antonio town and less than a 10-minute drive away from Quepos. If you’re staying in the area, most hotels are situated between the park and Quepos around the town of Manuel Antonio. Check out our hotel recommendations at the end of this Manuel Antonio National Park guide!

3. How much does it cost to visit Manuel Antonio National Park?

Two monkeys drink from a coconut in Manuel Antonio National Park

Admission to visit the park is $18.08 USD per adult and kids aged 2 to 11 are $5.65 USD. Make sure you read below on how to purchase tickets in advance, as this is a MUST.

You can also book  guided tours like this one . But be aware that some tours do not include the entrance fee, so you’ll be paying that either way.

Also, the park warns about people along the road leading here that will try to sell you entrance tickets, tours, or parking – they are not connected to the park in any way, so don’t buy anything from them!

4. Do you need to book your ticket to Manuel Antonio in advance?

Bailey on a viewing platforms in Manuel Antonio National Park

Yes!! I can’t stress this enough. Don’t show up and try to buy a ticket on-site as you’ll end up disappointed. Tickets MUST be   purchased in advance online here .

When you book, you’ll select the day you’re visiting. This is because the park only sells limited tickets for each day. The ticket is good for the whole day, but once you’re in the park, you can’t come and go and use the same ticket. So plan to spend the day here to get the most value!

If you go the guided tour route, double-check to see if it includes admission or not. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to purchase a ticket in advance, just like if you’re coming on your own.

When you arrive at the park, bring whatever documentation you used to purchase your tickets – like photo ID or a passport that matches the name on the ticket. This is very important.

5. When is the best time to visit Manuel Antonio?

A sloth hugs a tree in Manuel Antonio National Park

If you want the greatest chance of sunshine and warm days the  best time to visit Costa Rica  and Manuel Antonio National Park is from December to April. This is the dry season during Costa Rica’s summer months. It’s also the most popular time to visit, so expect more tourists and crowds. Book as far ahead as you can.

Things tend to be less expensive and not as crowded during the rainy season from May to November. Going to the park from May to August is still a good time – you’ll have fewer crowds to deal with and typically the rain comes in the afternoons. I’d avoid September-November as these tend to be the rainiest months.

Once you’re here, mornings are the best time to come to Manuel Antonio National Park. It’s cooler first thing in the morning and the animals and birds in the park tend to be a bit more active than in the afternoons.

Come right for when the park opens at 7 am or shortly after and you’ll have the best chance to see the park before it gets busy. Then, hit up one of the beaches in the afternoon to cool off!

6. Manuel Antonio National Park hours

A lady walks through Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National Park is open daily from 7 am to 4 pm and closed on Tuesdays.

It’s also open on holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter (unless they fall on a Tuesday). But if you’re planning to visit on a holiday or weekend, arrive as early as possible – preferably right when the park opens.

7. Is there parking at Manuel Antonio National Park?

Daniel talks with a parking attendent at Manuel Antonio National Park

Yes, there are private parking lots outside of Manuel Antonio National Park where you can pay for parking. The closer you park, the more expensive it will be.

Because there’s no official parking lot for the national park, you should drive close to the entrance of the park and then you’ll see parking lots with spots available for 2,000 to 4,000 colones per day ($3.77 to $7.54 USD).  This specific spot is really close . If you can find on-street parking in the area, it will be free.

Make sure to drive close to the park entrance and not pay anyone for parking on the road to get there. There will be people trying to sell you overpriced parking that you need to avoid.

8. Can you visit Manuel Antonio Park without a tour?

A monkey in Manuel Antonio National Park

Yes, you can! All you have to do is buy a normal entrance ticket and explore. You’ll likely get a trail map you can follow as you look for animals in the park and enjoy a hike.

I will say that if it’s your first time in the park or it’s really important to you to see a variety of Costa Rican wildlife , a guided tour is the way to go. The guides here know where to look for animals and birds and will probably point out lots of critters you would have missed.

A lot of the guides here also use a scope (basically a powerful telescope) that you can use on a tour to see animals up close – like a sloth or a monkey hiding up in the treetops. Guides are also really good at telling you the history of the area and giving you more information about the critters here, so you’ll learn lots.

You don’t need a tour to enjoy the beaches here, so I recommend having a guided tour in the morning and then enjoying the beaches for the rest of the day on your own. That being said, if you’re coming from San Jose, I recommend taking one of these guided tours from the city so you won’t have to navigate windy roads and can fully enjoy the day!

9. What are the hiking trails in Manuel Antonio National Park?

A map of the trails in Manuel Antonio National Park

Hiking in Manuel Antonio National Park on its  rainforest hiking trails  is the best way to see some of the animals here. There are 10 hiking trails and all of them are really walkable – there are some with stairs, but nothing too strenuous.

In fact, I recommend walking them all if you can! The longest trail is the Waterfall Trail and it’s around 5.5 miles (9 kms) and most are much shorter in that 1-mile (1.5 kms) range.

The trails throughout the park are:

  • The Sloth Trail
  • The Mangrove Trail
  • The Waterfall Trail
  • Sendero Playa Espadilla Sur
  • Sendero Playa Manuel Antonio
  • Sendero Congos
  • Sendero Playa Gemelas
  • Sendero Punta Catedral
  • Sendero Miradores
  • Sendero Puerto Escondido

All trails are well marked and there are signs and maps everywhere so you won’t get lost.

10. How long does it take to explore Manuel Antonio National Park?

Bailey poses for a photo on a trail in Manuel Antonio NP

Because it’s best to come in the mornings, you can easily spend an entire day here. I’d say you need at least half a day (4 hours) to really explore the park and walk along some of the trails.

If you want to extend your time here, grab lunch at the café inside the park and then head to one of the beaches for the afternoon. If you want to get in a couple of good hours at the beach, you can stay in the park for the entire day. Just a note that the beaches close around 3 pm and everyone has to leave the park by 4 pm, so plan accordingly.

11. What wildlife can you see in Manuel Antonio National Park?

A sloth hugs a tree in Manuel Antonio

One of the best things to do in Manuel Antonio National Park is to check out all the amazing wildlife here. There are literally hundreds of different types of animals, birds, insects, and reptiles you can spot! This national park is famous for its biodiversity and a wide variety of critters.

You’ll most likely see a lot of monkeys! There are three different types of monkeys in the park – howler, white-faced, and the endangered squirrel monkeys. This is one of only a few places in the world you can see squirrel monkeys in the wild.

Sloths are also common in the park – both two-toed and three-toed sloths. If you’re lucky enough to see a baby sloth, they are so incredibly cute! Keep your eyes in the tree tops to spot them, sloths are notoriously hard to see since they camouflage so well and move so little.

Also keep an eye out for toucans, parrots, hummingbirds, and butterflies. And don’t forget to look down! You might spot red-eyed tree frogs, tiny crabs like the orange Halloween crabs, or snakes.

12. Can you swim in Manuel Antonio National Park?

Bailey sits on a beach in Manuel Antonio National Park

Yes, and you should! The beaches are one of our favorite places inside the park. They are just perfect. You’ll find soft sand to sink your feet into and lots of room.

The most popular beach in the park is Playa Manuel Antonio. The water is calm here and a gorgeous shade of turquoise blue. Be sure to swim to the far side (left if you’re facing the water) as this is where there is no reef. There are lots of almond trees for shade, so it’s easy to spend a few hours here. It can get busy, so if you walk over to Playa Espadilla Sur, that’s typically less busy and still a great spot for swimming or sun tanning.

If you’re looking for a more hidden beach, head to the secluded Playa Gemelas. It’s a bit rockier here, but it’s actually two small beaches that combine into one. It’s about a 20-minute hike from the main beaches, so it’s never as busy! Just be aware of the rip currents here, so don’t swim too far out.

13. Is there food in Manuel Antonio National Park?

Daniel gets his bag searched in Manuel Antonio National Park

There is no outside food allowed in the park. Your bags are searched when you enter and any food or snacks you packed will be taken away.

This is mostly because of the animals like monkeys and raccoons who like to dig into people’s bags and steal food. It isn’t good for them and you don’t want them grabbing your stuff either!

However, there is a café in the park that sells food like, pizza, sandwiches, cakes, fruit, chips, and drinks. These aren’t the highest of quality, and I highly suggest having a big meal before you enter the park.

You can bring a refillable water bottle with you – just not a single-use plastic one as those are banned in this park. If you need to fill up your water bottle, the café can help you with that.

14. What should I bring to Manuel National Park?

A beautiful beach in Manuel Antonio National Park

Make sure you bring ID for entry into the park that is the same as on your ticket! You’ll also need some money (cash is best) and then some other essentials like water in a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and a camera.

Make sure to wear good walking shoes like runners if you want to hike. If you’re just heading to the beach and doing the main trail, sandals are okay. It does get really humid in the park, so shorts and a t-shirt will help keep you cooler. It can rain here (even in the dry season), so also pack a light rain jacket.

If you’re going to the beach while you’re here, make sure to have a bathing suit, towel, and sunglasses. You can’t bring any beach umbrellas or chairs, so travel light!

To carry everything, I recommend a waterproof backpack. This way if it rains, all your gear is still nice and dry.

15. Facilities in Manuel Antonio National Park

A beach in Manuel Antonio National Park

The facilities in the park are minimal, but there’s enough so you can stay all day comfortably.

There are washrooms at the main entrance and a few other spots around the park, showers and changing rooms near the main beach, a café for food, a small shop, and some water refill stations.

16. Is Manuel Antonio suitable for kids/families?

A scenic view in Manuel Antonio National Park

Yes, kids will have a great time at Manuel Antonio National Park! The trails are flat and not too difficult, so little ones can tag along and help you spot wildlife. The beaches are also great for kids with the calm waves.

NOTE – Keep kids (and yourself!) away from the manchineel tree. Also known as a “beach apple” or “little apple of death” tree (I’m not kidding!!), these are common in the park, especially along the beaches and you might see the tiny green apples on the ground. The trees are toxic and extremely dangerous – don’t touch any part of the tree or eat its fruit. There are signs throughout the park warning of the tree, but because kids can venture off, keep them close as you explore the park.

17. Should I hire a guide to explore the park?

A monkey grabs a bag from the beach in Manuel Antonio National Park

If you’re traveling on a budget or prefer to explore on your own, you can save money by not hiring a guide. It’s still really enjoyable to wander along the hiking trails by yourself and see what animals you can spot.

However, if seeing more wildlife and knowing what exactly you’re seeing is high on your list, hire a guide. You’ll not only see more; you’ll learn a ton about the park and its creatures along the way. The guides here are passionate about what they do and they know some of the popular spots where animals (like sloths!) hang out. You’ll also get the chance to use the guide’s telescopes to spot animals far away that you would have totally missed seeing.

I recommend hiring a guide or booking a guided tour for the morning. You’ll see the most animals in the mornings and then once your tour is done, you’re free to explore the park on your own or head to the beach.

Tip: We recommend booking your guide in advance online . This way you can read reviews and ensure you will get a quality experience!

18. How do you get to Manuel Antonio National Park entrance from Manuel Antonio or Quepos?

The bus that travels from Quepos to Manuel Antonio and then to the national park entrance

Our favorite way to get around is by  renting a car in Costa Rica . While an SUV is nice to have if you’re planning on driving around any backroads, if you’re sticking to main roads and heading to the national park, it isn’t necessary.

Our top company to rent from is Discover Cars because they have locations in Manuel Antonio and Quepos (plus in 34 cities around the country) and they have a variety of vehicle types, so we know we will have something reliable no matter what adventure we go on. Even better is that their cars are reasonably priced, and include Costa Rica’s mandatory insurance so there are no surprise fees! You can reserve with Discover Cars here .

The drive from Manuel Antonio to the national park is 10 minutes and possibly even shorter, depending on where your hotel is. From Quepos, the drive is around 18 minutes to the park entrance. Taxis are also an option from both Manuel Antonio and Quepos and should cost between $5 to 10 USD each way.

If you want to avoid paying for parking or don’t have a rental car, you can easily take the bus from Quepos to Manuel Antonio National Park. You’ll head to the bus station in Quepos or you can wait at a bus stop along the hill in Quepos if you’re staying at a hotel there. The bus is around 335 colones (.63 USD) for a one-way ticket.

The buses run about every half hour from 5:30 am until 9:30 pm and will take you through the town of Manuel Antonio and close to the park entrance – but not right to it. The bus drops off near the beach at a roundabout. You’ll walk about 5 minutes to the entrance and it is well-signed here so you won’t get lost!

19. The difference between Manuel Antonio National Park and Manuel Antonio town

Walking along North Espadilla Beach, Manuel Antonio

While they share a name, Manuel Antonio National Park and Manuel Antonio town are different. The small town is on the cliffs near the park and is about 15 minutes from the larger city of Quepos.

Manuel Antonio town literally borders the national park and is a  great place to stay  if you want to be based in this area for a while. The town is built on a hillside and is full of wildlife – I think I’ve seen almost as many animals like sloths, monkeys, and toucans in town as I have in the national park!

There are also some nice beaches in Manuel Antonio that are not in the national park. These are great because they are free to get to and you don’t have to leave by a certain time – so stay for the sunset!

While you’re in town, check out all the  amazing restaurants in Manuel Antonio . You’ll find places to eat with awesome food, ocean views, and great cocktails. I love having the buffet breakfast at  Rico Tico Jungle Grill  right when they open at 6:30 am so I’m all fueled up for a day at the national park.

20. What are the best things to do in Manuel Antonio National Park?

Two people walk on a beach in Manuel Antonio

There’s a huge variety of activities to do in Manuel Antonio National Park! The top activity is the simplest – just walking around! Start your visit here with a guided tour or explore by yourself without a guide along the trails to spot monkeys, sloths, poison dart frogs, butterflies, and many other critters!

Swimming is also fun inside the park at one of the beaches. The water here is beautiful and the sand is super soft. Some of the best beaches in Costa Rica are found here. It’s a good way to relax after a busy morning of hiking.

Another way to see the national park from a different angle is with a boat or snorkeling cruise.  This catamaran tour  passes by the national park to give you great views but has the added perks of being on a boat like suntanning, snorkeling , taking a dip in the Jacuzzi, and spotting animals in the water like dolphins and turtles . The tour is $86 USD per person and includes lunch and transportation.

21. What are the best tours of Manuel Antonio National Park?

A frog on a night tour in Manuel Antonio National Park

One of the best ways to see Manuel Antonio National Park is with a tour. You’ll have the extra perk of an experienced guide to show you around and make sure you get the most out of your time here.

For guided tours from Manuel Antonio that include transportation, this half-day guided nature tour  pairs you up with a naturalist guide who will point out animals and plants and explain the biodiversity of the park. It’s under $65 USD and includes transport from all hotels in the Quepos and Manuel Antonio area.

If you have a rental car or are taking the bus, there’s no need to worry about a tour with transportation. Instead, book a small-group guided tour  for a more personal experience with a maximum number of eight people allowed. This means you’ll have more time to look through the spotting scope at animals you find along the way and can ask lots of questions. It’s only $28 USD per person, which doesn’t include the park entrance fee.

If seeing sloths is high on your list, book a sloth tour of Manuel Antonio National Park . Your guide will make sure you see lots of sloths as well as other critters. You’ll have the chance to take lots of amazing photos as you wander through the park. This tour is $70 USD per person.

See the park come alive in the dark with a night tour. Many of the amazing animals inside Manuel Antonio National Park are nocturnal, so this jungle night tour  is a whole new experience – even if you’ve already visited during the day. It’s under $60 USD and includes transportation and a tour guide.

Explore the coastlines of Manuel Antonio National Park from the comforts of a luxury catamaran. On  this catamaran tour , you’ll pass by the national park, small islands and get the chance to swim in the bay or go down the waterslide attached to the boat! It’s $86 USD for this little getaway that includes transportation.

Where to Stay in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

Hotel Villas Lirio Manuel Antonio

There are tons of different  hotels to choose from when deciding where to stay in Manuel Antonio . Here are a few of our favorites:

Selina – $

One of the best budget-friendly places to stay in Manuel Antonio is  Selina . Selina has hostels all over Costa Rica and the world. They always offer an ideal place to stay with clean rooms, a great bar, and a social atmosphere. In Manuel Antonio, Selina is no different, and the hostel comes with a huge pool, restaurant and bar, private rooms, and dorm rooms.

Rates begin at $57 USD per night. You can  book Selina here on Hostelworld ,   here on Booking.com ,  here on Hotels.com , or  here on Expedia .

Hotel Villas Lirio – $$

For the medium-budget traveler, my top choice is  Hotel Villas Lirio  (pictured above.) This gorgeous hotel is reasonably priced but has some very luxurious features such as an outdoor pool, tropical manicured gardens, an included breakfast, and a restaurant.

The hotel is also located in the heart of Manuel Antonio and is only meters from the main road where to bus down to the beach and national park goes (it’s a 1-minute drive or a short walk.) Be sure to book it in advance as it is often fully booked. You can book Hotel Villas Lirio online  here on Booking.com ,  here on Hotels.com , or  here on Expedia .

Parador Resort and Spa – $$$

Those who enjoy staying in a beautiful hotel and don’t mind paying for it, have to check out  Parador Resort and Spa . This place does tick a lot of boxes! It’s only a short walk to the beach, has fantastic panoramic views thanks to its elevated location, and has two infinity pools.

The hotel is surrounded by rainforest, so there’s tons of wildlife around too. It’s more around the $350 USD+ per night mark, but is great for a luxury getaway! You can check availability and book  here on Booking.com ,  here on Hotels.com , or  here on Expedia .

Getting Around Costa Rica

Bailey with our rental car near Rio Celeste Costa Rica

How you choose to get around Costa Rica is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning your holiday here! How you do it depends on your budget, travel style, and comfort level.

Renting a Car

Without a doubt, the number one way to explore Costa Rica is in a rental car. We book rental cars on the Discover Cars website as we have had good experiences with them in the past.

One of the things you need to watch for when renting a car in Costa Rica is the mandatory insurance that the government requires you to have. There are a lot of very cheap rentals that don’t include this mandatory insurance (TPL) in the original booking price, but there are also ones that do. To avoid additional surprise charges when you pick up your rental car, be sure to rent a car that includes the mandatory insurance when you book.

Thankfully, on Discover Cars it’s easy to tell apart the companies that include the mandatory insurance and those that don’t. The trick is you can’t pick any car on their website. In the picture below, you can see this rental car, with pick up in Jaco, includes the TPL. That means the mandatory insurance is included in the price. Any cover you get above that is extra.

Of course, I still suggest getting the full coverage offered by Discover Cars, which covers you even more.

You can  browse cars on Discover Cars here .

TPL Cover Costa Rica

Book Shuttles

If renting a car isn’t in your budget, you don’t feel comfortable driving in Costa Rica , or you just don’t like driving, shuttles are the next best option. There are hundreds of shuttle routes available all over the country, and they are very affordable.

Shuttles in Costa Rica are specifically for tourists and often include pick up and drop off at your selected hotels and airports. The drivers also speak some English, and the vehicles have air conditioning. You’ll also be guaranteed a seat when you book a shuttle (which isn’t the case with the public bus system.)

To get the best price, use the website  Bookaway . They compare all the offers and prices of shuttle companies in Costa Rica so you get the best price! Honestly, we have saved so much money using Bookaway!

You can search for shuttles online on Bookaway here.

Lastly, you can use the public bus system. On short journeys, such as from San Jose to La Fortuna or Uvita to Manuel Antonio, this system is great. However, the longer the journey the more hassle and time spent on a bus. It’s undoubtedly best to save the public bus in Costa Rica for short and straightforward trips!

The public buses are definitely the cheapest way to get around Costa Rica, but they are not always very reliable and schedules often change without notice and delays are to be expected. The buses can also be very crowded and hot – so just be prepared!

It’s also good to speak some Spanish if you plan on riding the public bus since most drivers and ticket booth operators don’t speak English.

Thanks for reading!

Manuel Antonio National Park is among my favorite national parks in Costa Rica. The scenery is stunning and I love that I can get a rainforest hike and a beach day in the same place! The park is surrounded by such a beautiful area too, that we love hanging around here for a few days to explore.

Mangrove Night tour

About our tours.

We offer three modalities for this incredible adventure, and no matter which one you choose, you’ll have a similar experience. Our mangrove tours are available in kayak or boat. We also offer nocturnal tours, which are only conducted by boat.

All our mangrove tours last 2 hours, excluding transportation if necessary.

Regarding sightings, these vary depending on whether they are done during the day or at night. However, regardless of the tour you choose, you’ll be able to enjoy a wide variety of wildlife species that inhabit the mangrove forest.

Although sightings may be similar, they vary depending on the time of day, as some species are active while others sleep in the mangrove undergrowth.

Some of the species you can spot during the day include:

Among the species you can spot at night are:.

  • Kingfishers

If you choose to do the tour in kayak you need to be prepared for a small workout! However, the tour will be slow-paced and no one will be left behind! You do not need to have any previous experience kayaking. You can choose to do the tour in a single- or a double kayak.

The essence of the tour is pretty much the same whether you choose to do it in boat or kayak, but since the boat is motor-operated, this gives a different kind of range, and you are able to travel deeper into the mangrove. Besides experiencing the smaller canals the boat will also take you out on the big, main canal that leads to the ocean. Here are not many animals to see, but it gives you a great sense of how big the area actually is.

The night mangrove tour is a 2-hour boat ride along channels. With a captain and bilingual guide, you’ll spot sleeping or hunting animals like snakes or crocodiles.

Only the guide will have a flashlight to minimize disturbance to hidden species.

What to expect when doing mangrove tour during daytime

We like to prepare our guests for the experience when it comes to schedule and what to bring, but besides that it is hard to know what to expect.

We do find ourselves in a natural habitat where we very much can hope to see some things or some type of animals and the guides do their very best to fulfill your wishes but again – this beautiful place is not a zoo and nothing is guaranteed. As long as you bring good vibes and a lot of pura vida, your guide will take care of the rest!

Recommendations for mangrove tour

Do not feed the animals. This doesn’t apply to this particular tour only, but is a general recommendation for your stay here in Costa Rica. Do not feed the animals. As tempting as it might be you are not doing these animals a favor. In fact you might end up hurting them even though your intentions were the exact opposite. In the mangrove, especially the White-faced Capucin monkeys might let you get up-close and personal with them, but do not forget that these are wild animals. We advise guests to enjoy these playful creatures from the distance and respect that we are visitors in their natural habitat.

For this tour we do recommend that you to wear practical clothes and might bring a hat and sunblock to protect your skin – especially if you are doing the tour by kayak. The boat has a roof, and you will not be as exposed to the sun. During daytime the mosquitos and insects are not very active and mosquito repellent is not a must. If you want to tip your guides, we recommend you to bring cash! Either dollars or the local currency – colones. Other than that you only have to bring your adventurous spirits and a lot of Pura Vida! The rest will be taken care of.

What is a mangrove forest?

Mangrove forests consist of trees and shrubs that live in costal saline or brackish water. Worldwide, there are about 80 different species of mangrove trees and in Costa Rica we see four different species – all represented in the mangroves of Damas. Red mangrove, black mangrove, white mangrove and pineapple mangrove (has nothing to do with pineapple fruit). This type of vegetation only grows in tropical and subtropical areas, since it cannot survive at colder temperatures.

Mangrove forests are easily recognizable by their dense tangle of prop roots that makes the trees appear to be standing on stilts above the surface. This construction of the roots allows the trees to handle the daily rise and fall of tides in the area. This root system in the mangrove forest attracts many different kinds of fish and small animals seeking food and shelter from predators.

Mangrove forests are one of the most vital ecosystems in the world and serve to stabilize the coastline and protect against erosion from storms, current, waves and tides.

This tour was fantastic. Esteban was our guide and he found so many animals, it was incredible! Sloths, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, capuchins, frogs, snakes, crazy spiders and more. It was very cool to see so much nature at night, and we were the only tour around as well. Flashlights include and our guide had a scope and used it to take pictures for us to take him! Highly recommend!!

Fabulous experience with Esteban

We did the night tour with Esteban where he showed us incredible wildlife including: frogs, snakes, a banana spider, bats, opossum and so much more. He was very knowledgeable and both learnt so much from him. Thank you Esteban!

Our guide Diego was amazing! He was friendly and very knowledgeable on the unique animals and plants he showed us. It was a very unique experience that I hope to do again!

Amazing Night Hike Under The Stars

Embarking on a night hike in Costa Rica is a fantastic adventure that takes you to the core of the rainforests at night. Led by very knowledgeable guides, the experience reveals a vibrant ecosystem with life, from colorful tree frogs to elusive sloths and kinkajous.

Fantastic park, Best Guide!

There is not only frog but also sleeping bird, scorpion, sloth, monkey…..

Awesome Experience

Exploring the jungle late at night was something out of my comfort zone for sure. But as soon as the tour started I found comfort from the tour guide. He was so intelligent, any question I had there was no hesitation to hear an answer back. Seeing how comfortable he was made me feel safe and secure. Aside from this, it was amazing how quickly he was able to find little creatures and animals and explain/ name every single one of them. It blew my mind, I was so impressed. This experience is unlike any other and I am so glad I had the chance to experience this tour. Would definitely recommend.

Quepos night hike

I love the trip at Quepos. I like to pick up interesting plants to ask Jose about it. they are very patient and friendly. There are so many animals and I love the night hike

We had an amazing hike with Chris! He was able to spot so many animals barely visible to the naked eye and he made sure that everyone knew what they were looking at. A very unique experience!

manuel antonio tour

The night hike was great! We saw so many things and our guide was so knowledgeable!

Brilliant and deep ecological experience

This night hike was the best our school group had in Costa Rica (and they were all enjoyable). Our guides were uniquely knowledgeable, friendly, and respectful of the environment and our students alike. They took the time to answer questions, were expert spotters of wildlife, and they were incredibly personable! I was deeply impressed.

SO awesome!

Our guide, Esteban, was fantastic! He was so knowledgeable, friendly, and funny, and made sure everyone had a great time. We saw so many cool critters, my favorite was the sleeping hummingbird we saw! Highly recommend this tour for people of all ages!

Really cool night walk!

The night walk was an amazing experience where we got to see so many different types of wildlife. Our guide Cris took pictures of the wildlife and provided it to us after the tour. Additionally, Cris was super kind and very knowledgeable. Would recommend this to anyone!

Amazing night walk tour with Christopher

Christopher had knowledge on everything. The walk was very informative and fun. We saw sloths, spiders, snakes and so much more. Without a doubt the best tour to take!

Frogs, scorpions, and the beauty of the jungle at night!

We visited Costa Rica in March 2024 and had so many excellent adventures, but absolutely the most memorable has to be the guided night hike at Biophilia Park! Our great guide helped us stay safe in the forest and helped everyone in the group get great views of some cool frogs, a snake, a glowing -in-UV-light scorpion, and many other cool critters. It’s surreal being in such a wild place at night — not to be missed!

manuel antonio tour

Awesome tour!

The night tour was a lot of fun. It was a completely different experience getting to hike the park at night and see the nocturnal activity. Our guide, Estevan, was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and was able to spot just about all the wildlife we came across. Highly recommend!

Great experience

We loved this experience. The group was small, so we could all participate and hear the explanations. The guide was very helpful and explained everything in English and Spanish.

We could see many animals and take pictures: scorpions, spiders, snakes, lizards, frogs and a marta.

Really recommend.

Jungle night tour

We had a memorable jungle night tour with Diego! he provided an overview of the ecology of Costa Rica, spotted many nocturnal creatures, and provided fascinating facts about each, such as about the golden orb weaver, which we looked for more information following the tour…

My wife and I took this tour to get a good look at the animals that you wouldn’t typically see. Our guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable and able to spot things that we couldn’t see if we were looking right at it. We had a wonderful time and would certainly do it again!

Jungle comes alive

Worth every penny, even if you are terrified by spiders. Our guide Esteban was very diligent in finding tons of wildlife, from poisonous banana spiders, to sleeping hummingbirds, to a mother Cayman and her chirping little ones. We saw more than I can possibly describe here. Wear long pants and bug spray. We did and didn’t regret it. Highly recommend this tour and the provider.

Breathtaking Experience!

We are so grateful we got to experience this tour. From the moment we arrived, Chris, our tour guide was so welcoming and accommodating. His knowledge of both Flora and Fauna was exceptional. Beautiful frogs, snakes, spiders, birds, bats were all appreciated and admired with great enthusiasm. The other aspect I really noticed was strong ethics towards not disturbing the natural ecosystems and wildlife themselves – This is so important and I was very happy to see this ethos was upheld 🙏 Thank you sincerely Chris for making our last night in Costa Rica the absolute best we could imagine!

We had an amazing evening with Chris as our tour-guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and very accommodating. He made sure every guest had a chance to see the wildlife that was being observed, and made sure everyone was able to take a photo! On this tour, we saw 4 species of frog, 2 spiders , a snake, a stick-bug, a sleeping hummingbird, and a Mexican Hairy Dwarf porcupine, and a few other animals that I do not remember the name of! When we return to Costa Rica, we would love to take this tour with Chris again!

Wonderful Experience

Frank our guide led us on an amazing night tour of the jungle. In near torrential rain we set off in hope and within minutes Frank spotted our first red eyed frog.

Frank’s knowledge, enthusiasm and engagement with the group made us forget the weather and really enjoy a unique experience being in the jungle a t night. Well done Frank – Fantastic!!

Awesome experience with Frank!

We joined a tour with our five year old and Frank went out of his way to ensure that everyone had a great experience. We got to see so many beautiful animals – and Frank documented them all to share with us.

Wonderful experience

We had a great time learning about the ecosystems and animals at night with Frank. He was patient and kind to a young child who started off scared. Red-eyed tree frogs, other frogs, two snakes and kinkajous were highlights for us. His ability to find tiny cryptic animals was amazing.

Awesome, entertaining, and informative

We had Beatriz as a guide and she was great. She is so full of knowledge and has a great sense of humor. She spent 2 hours with us and it was well worth it! We saw many animals, plants insects, frogs etc. And learned lots about all of them.

Excellent tour

Undoubtedly a great experience thoughout the 2 hours. Estevan was a brilliant guide and so enthusiastic. He spotted so many things and shared his passion with us. We saw caimans, squirrel monkeys, capuchins, lizards, spiders, frogs, sloths, a paca, fer de lance, sleeping hummingbird. Every few metres we were stopping to see something new. So good and well worth it.

Jungle Night Walk at Biophilla Park

My buddy Michael and I went on this jungle night tour with Diego, who was awesome! He was exceptionally knowledgeable on the local ecosystem. Diego spotted and educated us on the insects, spiders, frogs, snakes and animals of the Costa Rican night jungle. It was an easy walk and the highlights were the red eyed tree frog, leaf cutter ants (amazing lives they lead), an anteater, and even a a Fur de Lance viper (a little scary that one!). Diego carried a spotting scope for viewing and for pictures as well, so a close up experience with the little creatures. So worth the time! If you haven’t tried a night tour we highly recommend it!

manuel antonio tour

Beatriz was amazing

Beatriz was our guide and she was super knowledgeable, friendly, animated etc. we saw sloths, lizards, snakes, monkeys, birds and more. We really enjoyed it!

We had a great night with Esteban! We saw many species of spiders, frogs and even saw a rare owl!

Estaban was so lovely. Informative. Helped with photos and finding animals. It was so nice to spend time and see animals at night.

The only issue is the walk ways are very basic

INCROYABLE !

Night tour Esteban

We did the night tour with Esteban and had an amazing time. He was very knowledgeable and passionate and was able to pass that along to us.

We saw many interesting animals including one of the most venomous spiders in the world, the most dangerous snake in Costa Rica and a cute monkey dozing in a tree.

Conservation of nature is human conservation.

Conservation of nature preserves human history. It is a human duty to take care and protect all kinds of animals found in nature. If we do not protect them, they will gradually become greedy. Each animal is dependent on the other. The existence of some animal has ended due to human behavior. It is very important to know and learn about these and other types of animals and our goal is to research them in depth.

Great Experience!

The tour was very nice! We got to see a lot of animals. The darkness makes it so thrilling!

Amazing Night Hike

Even with a good, soaking rain storm, we saw so many critters. Our guide, Frank, was very knowledgeable and made our tour/hike so memorable. If our group had walked the trail alone, we would have missed seeing so much. Frank used his scope and great phone camera to capture wonderful images. This guided tour was a highlight of our visit to Costa Rica.

Biodiversity wonderland!

We really enjoyed our night walk with Diego! Thanks to his keen eyes, we were able to see amazing fauna and flora. This was even after a big thunderstorm that had just passed an hour earlier – the forest was still very wet. We saw the red eyed tree frog, a glass frog, a yellow tree frog, a whip spider, a yellow lemon looking bird resting on a branch and another bird sleeping in its nest. We also saw a striped basilisk lizard, dragonflies, a golden orb spider, and gorgeous blooming flowers. We definitely recommend a guide like Diego. There is no way to appreciate and understand the immense biodiversity without having someone knowledgeable to accompany and guide you. Highly recommend!

Awesome jungle night tour with Esteban 🙂

Had such a wonderful evening night tour with Esteban, he was highly knowledgeable and passionate about nature. How he has this ability to spot wildlife deep within trees and high up in tree tops absolutely blew our minds!! It’s a great evening well spent, we thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t praise Esteban highly enough.

Amazing tour with Frank

Frank was an amazing tour guide! He was able to show us so many creatures we would have normally missed, including a beautiful red eyed tree frog, basilisk, several spiders, and even a snake! We had an amazing time exploring the jungle and finished off with some delicious tea. I would highly recommend this tour for all ages!

Additionally, the driver Roibin was prompt and very friendly!

Lovely night

We had a great night hike experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable, answering all of our questions and provided a very rich learning experience. We were so grateful for his expertise – and help with photography! Well done!

manuel antonio tour

Thanks Esteban 🙏🇨🇷

we had a great time with our children. A very beautiful adventure to live where Esteban, our guide transmitted to us the passion of his Country and the omnipresent nature. thanks to him we were able to meet snakes, monkeys, birds and other spiders. thank you again for this wonderful adventure. Pura Vida

Good day tour

The guide is very useful, we liked our tour with Andrew.

Beatriz was brilliant, full of knowledge and understanding of the area she explained in detail everything going on from the animals to plants and history of the area. Not only that she was also clearly passionate about the area and made fitting jokes throughout keeping it enjoyable. Thank you

Very interesting

Very interesting walk with lots of information. We really enjoyed it.

Jungle Spectacular

Diego is the best! We saw a toucan, golden orb spider, a plethora of frogs and gained an immense amount of knowledge. The herbal tea is perfect way to start the walk! Having a trained eye and an experienced guide is necessary. This is a must do activity to better understand this beautiful country and its role in the big biodiversity picture!

Great nightime activity, rain or not

Had a great time and learned a lot from our very knowledgeable and entertaining guide, Beatrice. Her love of the forest was contagious. Its a wonderful event.

Wonderful night stroll

We had a great time on our night stroll, it was loaded with sightings of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, spiders and numerous insects and even a couple of birds.

Our guide was great and made sure we didn’t miss anything.

Well worth taking the time and going to see what you miss seeing during the day.

Experience life in the jungle during rainy season

On the night of our tour, it was raining so much we were worried it was going to get canceled – and we were stoked that it was not! The rain slowed down a bit when we headed on the trail with our guide, the amazing Esteban who spotted many creatures and shared his knowledge of Costa Rica’s biodiverse ecosystems with us. Among the animals we saw were a glass frog, red eyed tree frog, bull frog, a young cayman hanging out by the water, a bromelia boa snake, and many more. Listening to the sounds of the jungle at night was a very precious experience! Sharing his ethic of respect for wildlife, Esteban made sure we did not touch or otherwise disturb the animals, and helped us take photos. I highly recommend this experience!

Wonderful adventure!! Snakes, frogs, a caiman and a kinkajou!

Our walk with Esteban last night was so wonderful! We saw a sleeping hummingbird (colibri), two beautiful snakes, a kinkajou, 5 types of frogs, a caïman, many types of insects and spiders. We were so so thrilled!

Esteban was very generous with his knowledge and was making sure everyone was having a good time.

In cas e useful to know: Don’t cancel if there is a storm before/during the tour, there are actually even more animals out when it is raining, and the forest protects from strong rains! After all, this is a rainforest! Wear warmish clothes and you will be absolutely fine.

Andres is amazing

I went to a night tour with Andres, he was so patiant and enthusiastic to find all the cool animals (and helped us take the most amazing photos). We saw many frogs, moths, a snake, spiders, even some mammels, and a glow-in-the-dark scorpion. The atmosphere, the sound and the smells in the jungle at night are something special. Recommended!

Felt like Indiana Jones

It was amazing. I felt like Indiana Jones to walk in the night in the Jungle and to hear the beautiful sounds of the animals. We saw the cutest frogs ever. We also saw a sloth with a baby. Also a little snake and some spiders. The guide was great. He saw all the small animals we would never ever seen without him.

Highly recommendet!

Beyond our high expectations

Frank was excellent and we recommend him, and the night tour, highly. Over the years we have done numerous night hikes in different places in Costa Rica (and elsewhere). This one was excellent. We found numerous frog and toad species, scorpions found with UV light, various lizard species, two snake species. Snoozing birds and more . Frank was so knowledgeable and a good communicator. The walk also included plant and herb species. Frank took amazing quality pictures of everything for us through how night scope which he shared. The glow in the dark car beetle (also called headlight and click beetle) was awesome. The classic red eyed green tree frog was perfect!

manuel antonio tour

Amazing tour. Guide Esteban was excellent highly recommend him. Answered every question we could think of with knowledge from crocodiles to snakes to mosquitoes. Mucho bueno!

Awesome tour

Tour Guide Esteban was awesome answered all questions we had. Very knowledgeable.

We really enjoyed our night tour of the reserve. Diego was a fantastic guide and scoped out some really cool animals for us. We got some great pictures of a sleeping hummingbird, several frogs including a red-eyed tree frog, and glowing caiman eyes! I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Manuel Antonio area.

Absolutely fantastic

Our guide Frank was fantastic!! We saw frogs including two ball frogs, a snake, bats, scorpions, hummingbird on her nest sleeping aswell as other birds and more. Highly recommend. Thankyou Frank for such a wonderful tour and the bamboo structure was stunning. We return to England very happy.

My grandson and I really enjoyed the night walk. Our knowledgeable guide Beatriz enthusiasm and passion for wild life made this a very unique experience. Thank you

Don’t miss this opportunity

Frank was friendly and knowledgeable. We saw many unexpected creatures on our night tour. If you’re debating going on a tour, you don’t want to miss this! Very cool!

manuel antonio tour

Night tour was so beautiful. No guarantee what you will see but we saw lots. Rugged terrain night hike.

My photos won’t load. Unfortunately

Amazing Experience, Passionate and Talented Tour Guide Beatriz!

Absolutely taken away by the beauty of the jungle at night. Our tour guide Beatriz was clearly so excited and passionate about showing us all of the animals (and plants) we could find. She was so knowledgeable and gave informative answers to every question. She allowed everyone time to take pictures through the scope when we wanted. Also very impressed by her ability to identify and mimic animal calls in order to find them! Thank you so much Beatriz and the rest of Biophilia!

manuel antonio tour

Fabulous night walk

We loved the night walk. Frank was fabulous. We saw a snake, lots of birds, spiders and frogs and an ant eater taking a walk in a tree. Seeing all these things through the scope was phenomenal. A big thank you to Frank our guide and Diego our driver who came into the forest to get the children who were exhausted and slept in the van while we continued our ride.

Very good Tour

Very good tour i recommend it

Must Do! Great evening!

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing and learning from our amazing guide Diego about the jungle creatures that come out at night! We got excellent views and photos from the telescope. Diego’s enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to spot these small and camouflaged creatures was incredible! What a fun evening!

Amazing tour

Tour was really good. Our guide was really professional, knowing all the animals. Highly recommend.

Excellent experience

Beatriz was an amazing guide. She somehow saw creatures everywhere and set up her scope so all could see. She also is a master of cellphone photography and took some fantastic photos with our phones. She clearly has advanced degrees in animal physiology and behavior. Highly recommend her!

A whole new side of Costa Rican wildlife!

Our tour guide, Esteban, was an exceptional teacher and wildlife expert! He was incredibly knowledgable, and it was obvious that spotting the wildlife was as exciting to him as it was to us. We found over a dozen unique creatures during our walk! He also made a refreshing herbal tea for us, which was such a thoughtful gesture. I highly recommend Esteban and this tour!

manuel antonio tour

Snakes, Frogs, Sloths, Porcupines and Scorpion!!

Esteban was a fantastic guide. He is super passionate, and his excitement contagious. We saw a mamma sloth and her baby! At the same time he found a score. He was torn as to what to look at first.

Such an amazing place!

Our best sloth sighting!

This was a fantastic night tour led by Estevan! He was very knowledgeable and tuned in to every little sound & movement. He found a two-toed sloth eating leaves high in the trees in the pitch-black dark. With all flashlights pointed toward it, we were able to get a couple of great videos! Fun tip, when everyone’s flashlights are pointed ahead, turn around and look at blackness behind you. It was a little eerie, but felt very safe.

Amazing night tour with Beatriz

We were fortunate to be staying close to Biophilia and even more fortunate to join the night tour with Beatriz. A fascinating and educational tour, seeing scorpion, caimans, frogs, toads, spiders and more. Beatriz is exceptionally knowledgable and made our family feel at ease as we took a walk through the jungle at night. Highly recommended. Great guide, location and tour.

manuel antonio tour

Last night Diego took us on a wonderful trip. He sees things no one else could see. We got to see beautiful little creatures up close. A moment of increased heart rate in seeing the unexpected.

Diego was awesome. So knowing and full of fun. Thanks!

Incredible night walk

Our group of 5 was kept together with a fantastic guide, who knew what we were interested in (sloths, birds) and made sure we saw them and learned about them. We all agreed without our guide, we would not have seen any of the animals, frogs, insects, etc. This is a must-do in Costa Rica.

So many hidden creatures!

Frank was a very talented guide able to find so many hidden creatures in the dark! He was passionate about the ecosystem and shared the wonder of all the incredible adaptations of the animals and plants. I was impressed he knew the scientific name of things. Impressive he could do the tour in English! It was great to have the big scope. He took a lot of pictures and then sent them to us. Wonderful wonderful tour!

Even in pouring rain it was great

It was just amazing how Frank, our guide found – even in heavy rain – a snake, porcupines, a sloth, frogs, toads and more. We were soaking wet but very happy!

Loved this!

Esteban was fantastic. This was one of my favorite experiences on our trip.

Awesome night tour

I went on this tour with my parents. It was amazing. Our guide Estevan was full of information and excellent at spotting all kinds of animals.

Amazing experience

We loved every moment of the night tour. We were picked up outside our accommodation and taken to the park where we met with the tour guide. It was just myself and my husband with the guide. He was so knowledgable and we saw a lot of animals. One of the highlights of our honeymoon trip. Thank you very much!

An Excellent Adventure

My family took this tour toward the end of November 2022. It was one of the adventures we had looked forward to on our visit to Costa Rica. We had a wonderful time and our guide was excellent. Our young grand children wanted to see a red eyed frog and he found us one!

It w as well worth the price and came as close to a National Geographic adventure as we have ever experienced. We also appreciate the focus Costa Rica places on the natural environment. One other thing we noticed was how quiet and still the jungle can be. Great adventure – 5 stars all the way!

Night jungle hike

We had an excellent time on the night jungle hike. Our family of 9 was taken on a private tour of the biophilia park. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out lots of wildlife and discussed other characteristics of the night jungle in Costa Rica. Highly recommend this tour as you will see different wildlife than on a day tour.

This was awesome!

We had a truly remarkable night jungle walk with Diego as our guide. There were 4 adults and 2 children. The kids had so much fun & spotted many animals, etc. on their own! The jungle at night is magical.

Diego was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic & patient with the kids explaining the different animals, insects & frogs that we saw. He answered all their questions, too. We can’t say enough about his expertise. Everyone favourite was the red-eyed tree frog.

The path was easy for all ages to navigate.

The highlight of our trip to Costa Rica – a must do for everyone!

Seeing the jungle at night is an amazing and different experience!

To be in the rain forest only at day would be to never have done a night dive. The sounds, the darkness and the animals that come out are experiences you cannot get without a night tour. And having a great guide as we did in Francisco made the walk so incredibly interesting and educational .

Spectacular tour with so many creatures to see!

We had the privilege on going on a night tour with Esteban. We were a little apprehensive walking into the jungle at night but we were in the best hands. Esteban truly lives and breathes the nature around him. He was so passionate about every creature we spotted whether that be cute sloths to snakes and spiders. We learned so much from him and were able to take away so much information from the tour. Next time we are back in Costa Rica we will be doing many more tours with him. Thank you so much Esteban!!!

Jessie & Kyle

Quite an experience to listen to the djungle sounds at night!

We walked with Esteban, who is a a very knowledgable and engaged guide. We got to see many intereresting animals; different frogs, very poisonous snake and spider… He helpt us take great pictures with the telescope. Listen to the sounds of the frogs at night was fantastic!

Felt like treasure hunt

I booked a tour one day before in Sep and since no one else registered, instead of skipping, I paid for 2 people and ended having a private tour. I am very glad that I did since it was an awesome experience. Esteban was my guide and from the start, he spotted cayman just out of no where which I would’t have seen. I am always amused by the guides spotting things during the day but this was a different level at night. Not close to you even far away above the tree he spotted little frogs. It was a great fun like treasure hunt at night!! We saw cayman, glassfrog, milkfrog, bananafrog, red eyed frog, gladiator frogs, deers, iguanas, several spiders, and more. We also discussed about Costa Rica a lot and it was super interesting. It rained not too much but rather constantly during the tour but did not bother at all. Will definitely come back with my kids!!

Amazing Night Tour with Frank

Just because it’s dark doesn’t mean you won’t not see amazing creatures in the night. Frank is very knowledgeable, friendly and takes excellent photos. We couldn’t recommend this tour more.

manuel antonio tour

Amazing experience!

Diego was an incredible guide! We saw lot of wild live and was a great experience! Highly recommended! The experience is unique, super secure and different from any other Park visit.

Wonder jungle night

We spent an incredible 2 hours at Biophelia Park with our guide Estaban. He was very knowledgable and helped us take the most beautiful pictures. It was worth every minute, full of wonders!

Excellent Night Tour

We had an amazing night tour with Frank. He’s an excellent tour guide – very knowledgeable, personable and fun. We saw lots of night critters and highly recommend this tour!

Biophilia splendid surprising and educational with Beatrix

Beatrix is a clever joy of a guide. She is able to hear and spot the most interesting of nighttime creatures. She is informative and funny. She captivated our eight year old girl who says this nighttime tour was her favorite of our six weeks in Costa Rica. Highly recommended. Amazing photos were part of our parting gift from this experience.

Jungle tour

Had a wonderful time. Our guide Beatrice was great! Very insightful

exciting tour!

Our night tour was awesome! Beatriz showed us the nocturnal flora and fauna with a lot of heart and passion. We learned a lot and were able to take great photos. We would have loved to spend the whole night there… Thank you for the great tour!

Awesome night tour with Frank

Frank guided us in the nocturnal world of the rainforest. Unbelievable how much one can see, on a relative small trail, when it’s dark. Thanks Frank, we really enjoyed your amazing knowledge and pictures!

Dutch family, with a 12 & 15 year old teenager.

Prompt pick up at our hotel.

Frank was our tour guide. He was great, engaging, and knowledgeable. My husband and I were amazed that he could spot all the animals in the wild.

It felt like being in your own backyard, hunting for frogs and bugs and snakes. I felt absolutely safe.

He took photo’s with h is phone and sent the pictures to us.

This was such a cool experience.

Awesome tour with Andrew

I was fortunate enough to get a private tour with Andrew who was a wonderful tour guide. He knew an immense amount about the local flora and fauna, there wasn’t a question I asked that he didn’t answer. His enthusiasm was infectious and it was a treat to see the local wildlife through his eyes . We saw caiman, a Jesus lizard, lots of frogs, toads, insects, and various other things. If you enjoy learning and neing immersed in nature and it’s marvelousness, I highly recommend this tour.

Night Jungle Tour With Andrew

Our family of five adults enjoyed a fabulous evening of jungle touring—both flora and fauna—with Andrew. Besides spotting so many different species of frogs, reptiles, insects, arachnids, and a kinkajou overhead, Andrew shared an amazing amount of biology facts and details. He also brought wonderful enthusiasm to the tour, and indulged our group’s fascination with spotting caiman in the river at the end of the tour. We also enjoyed the refreshing herbal water blend, Andrew! Thank you!

Magical experience!

We did the night tour with Esteban and our family (adults, teenager, child and baby) really loved it. We didn’t see the iconic red eyed frog nor any snakes, but we saw a lot of different frogs, spiders, lizards, colibris and the manager caiman with her babies. Our guide was excellent, very friendly and professional . We highly recommend this tour!

manuel antonio tour

Andrew is an excellent guide!

Getting to see the mama caiman and all of her babies was one of the highlights of our trip! Andrew also helped us spot some spiders, scorpions, frogs and birds!

Magical Rain Tour with Andrew

We had the great fortune of doing the tour in pouring rain with Andrew, a Biologist and a graduate student who was incredibly informative and skilled at scouting the many creatures who came out in the rain. The rain made it so much more fun. Thank you Andrew!

Way beyond our high ecxpectations thanks to our guide Andrew

Last night we had the night hike of our lives thanks to our guide Andrew. We saw the iconic red eyed tree frog, masked frogs, many other frogs, scorpion, vine snake, spiders, caiman and much much more. Andrew was incredible at finding them and shared so much knowledge about them, medicinal plants we saw and much more. It was completely safe and fun. We cannot recommend a tour with Andrew highly enough!

manuel antonio tour

Educational and Fun

We had an amazing time on our night hike. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Bea, was super knowledgeable and went above and beyond to show our young kids the animals they were most interested in. She taught us so much about the animals, life cycles, and kept our family engaged the whole time. We saw cayman, spiders, basilisks, scorpions, frogs, snakes, and even a kinkajou playing above us. Our family is still talking about all of the cool things we learned and saw on this walk.

Absolutely amazing!

This was so fun and informative! Our guide Andrew was such a pro! We learned so much and he was excellent at spotting even the tiniest creatures. I was skeptical about getting a guide for hikes but honestly there’s just no way we would’ve seen any of the animals we did without him. Andrew was kind, patient, funny and such an expert! Highly recommend!
