How to get to the Florida Keys
If you’re traveling to Florida from other states or overseas, the main airports are Orlando, Miami, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville. These airports are serviced by most major commercial US airlines. Orlando and Miami have regular flights from the UK and Europe. You may also be able to take a train interstate with companies like Amtrak and Brightline , depending on where you’re coming from.
If you're driving to Florida, you can take one of three interstate highways: I-95 or I-75 from the north and the I-10 from the west.
How do I get around Florida?
Mainland Florida is well connected and easy to get around by car or public transport. Bus companies like Megabus and Greyhound offer daily services to popular cities around Florida including Orlando, Miami and West Palm Beach. It's an affordable and comfortable way to get around.
If you're planning on traveling in the north and south or to the Florida Keys archipelago, you might be better off renting a car if you're not traveling as part of a tour. Although there are good public transport networks, having a car allows you to travel around with ease and you won't have to rely on buses or trains.
What is the weather like in Florida?
Northern parts of Florida such as Jacksonville and Tallahassee have a temperate climate with seasonal weather variation, including below-freezing temperatures and a chance of snow in winter. Central and southern areas like Miami and the Florida Keys have a tropical maritime climate and only two seasons: wet (summer/fall) and dry (winter/spring). Florida summers are generally very hot and humid with daily highs often reaching the mid-90s (°F).
The wet season is hot and human with average daytime highs hovering around 91°F. Thunderstorms are common, as well as the occasional hurricane, between June and September when it’s particularly muggy. The dry season starts in December through May; it's dry and sunny throughout most parts of the state with daytime highs averaging a pleasant 75°F in the south, and a cooler 64°F in the north.
When is the best time to visit the Florida Keys?
Because of its sub-tropical climate, you can have an amazing vacation in Florida any time of year. March to August is the busiest time of year, especially down south around Miami when throngs of students head down for spring break.
If you don’t handle the heat too well, avoid going between June and September as this is when it’s most humid. Hurricane season peaks from mid-August to mid-October.
The low season is from October to January and it’s much easier (and often cheaper) to book accommodation and activities. The coldest months are November through January, and although it’s never freezing, if you want to make the most of Florida’s beaches and turquoise waters, the warmer months may be best.
The shoulder months of February, March and September offer a good balance of warm weather and smaller crowds.
What are the best annual events in Florida?
There is so much to see and do in Florida including attending these epic and fun-filled annual events:
- Florida Folk Festival
- Miami F1 Grand Prix
- Winterfest Boat Parade
- Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival
- Sugar Sand Festival
What should I pack for a trip to Florida?
What to pack for Florida really depends on the type of vacation you want to have.
Weather-wise, summer in Florida is hot, wet and humid so pack plenty of t-shirts, shorts, skirts and tank tops, as well as a lightweight waterproof jacket or poncho.
Winter is mild so pack similar items, plus a couple of warm layers such as jeans or sweat pants and a sweater for when the temperature drops in the evening.
Regardless of when you visit, you’ll want to bring a comfy pair of shoes to explore on foot, a bathing suit, a day pack and a reusable water bottle.
Are Intrepid trips accessible for travelers with disabilities?
We are committed to making travel widely accessible , regardless of ability or disability. We do our best to help you see the world, regardless of physical or mental limitations.
We are always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them toward the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

- 5 Best Florida Tours
Many think Florida is all about the ocean, but 12,000 miles rivers and streams make the Sunshine State an excellent destination for boat tours, where you can reach beautiful views invisible to any nearby road or hotel deck.
1. Tarpon Springs
Heading off from the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks, you can tour the Anclote River and hear Tarpon Springs history, hang near the gulf to spot dolphins or hop off on Anclote Key, a white-sand island reachable only by boat. The Park also has an 1887 lighthouse to explore!
2. Miami Beach Celebrity Spotting
Love tabloids and crave the latest gossip on your favorite stars? With a Miami Beach tour, you'll get a chance to pass the shores of Fisher, Hibiscus, and Star Islands, home to Rosie O'Donnell, Shaquille O'Neal, Sean Combs, Gloria Estefan and many more. You'll also get a great view of the Port of Miami and the giant cruise ships and massive skylines you'll only see again on a postcard.
3. Water Taxis
To get to Halifax River and Ponce Inlet in New Smyrna Beach, a water-taxi is a must -- but it also doubles as a do-it-yourself tour, letting riders hop on and off at their leisure to create their own mini-tour. Shop where you please for meals or sightseeing, such as the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse, the Marine Science Center, and many waterfront restaurants, shops and galleries.
4. The Loxahatchee River
For another destination unreachable by land, this tour starting off at Jonathon Dickson State Park in Hobe Sound takes riders to the home of Trapper Nelson. Nelson started out living off the land as a trapper and fur trader in the 1930s, but soon turned himself and his home into one of the region's first tourist attractions, "Trapper's Zoo and Jungle Gardens."
5. Key West Sunset
The daily sunset in Key West has turned into a celebration best celebrated from an offshore cruise. Choose from "all you can drink" parties with fabulous DJs and dancing, a pirate-themed swashbuckling good time aboard the Jolly II Rover schooner, or a historic ride on Florida's "The Western Union," built in 1939.

Ever wanted to hug a real alligator?
know before you go
Come early.
Our park opens at 9:00 a.m. and there’s a lot to see. When traveling with a group, we recommend arriving early so you can experience everything our gator park, drive-thru safari, animal shows and encounters have to offer.
Book your excursions ahead of time
Make your travel experience a good one by planning ahead! You can purchase tickets for each of our attractions online, in-person, or by phone prior to your arrival.
Plan meal times and regroup
Lunch is a great time to rest, refuel, and regroup. You can bring in your own picnic baskets or savor some of the best barbecue and food the swamp has to offer from the Chomp House Grill. Wash it down with our Swamp Slushy – a frozen blend of mango, orange and passion fruit and you’ve got what we like to call a well-balanced meal.
We are sensitive to the diverse dietary needs and allergy concerns of our guests. Your well-being and enjoyment are of paramount importance to us, and we are committed to providing you with a safe, satisfying, and memorable experience. Please let us know about any dietary or allergy restrictions you may have, and our team will do its utmost to ensure that your needs are met.
Exotic Animal Shows at Our Gator Park
See alligators live and up close at one of our wildlife shows! Our star of the show, Crusher, is an American alligator who is over 13 feet long. You may have seen alligators in Florida, but you’ve never seen Crusher. Show times are twice a day, at 11 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.
What You’ll See on Your Wildlife Safari
You’ll see native Florida wildlife and exotic animals on your drive. Find giraffes, zebras, eland antelope, scimitar oryx, American bison, mouflon sheep and more. Our animals roam freely through natural habitats, allowing you to get up close and personal.
Precautions
It’s important to consider the weather when booking an airboat tour in Florida. During the summer months and hurricane season, afternoon rains are common. If your airboat tour is impacted by rain or storms, our team will try to contact you by the phone number or email you used to book your airboat tour.
We know you want to meet our WILD family, so we offer services that help all our guests enjoy their visit.
GUIDELINES FOR SERVICE ANIMALS
- We welcome guests with disabilities who choose to bring their trained service animal into Wild Florida. A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for someone living with a disability. According to the ADA, service animals must be under the owner’s control at all times and should remain on a leash or in a harness. While in the Drive-thru Safari Park, your vehicle windows must remain up at all times. While in the Gator Park or on an Airboat Tour, the service animal must be on a leash at all times. Emotional support and service animals in training are not allowed entry into the Drive-thru Safari Park or Gator Park. While emotional support animals are often used to help with medical or emotional challenges, they are not considered service animals under the ADA.
Service Animals Accessibility Map
- Service animals may not enter interactive habitats, including the giraffe feeding encounter, lemur encounter, sloth encounter, or porcupine encounter and are not allowed in the petting zoo or walk-thru bird aviary. These specific animals may view dogs as a threat and may become scared or stressed in the presence of a service animal.
ORLANDO AIRBOAT RIDES
Wheelchair Accessibility for Airboat Tours
- Our loading dock is ADA compliant and our Florida airboat tours are accessible by a wheelchair-friendly ramp that runs from the back of the gift shop down to the airboat loading docks. However, there are a few steps from the dock to the airboat where the guest will need to be physically transferred from the wheelchair to the airboat.
Any Drive-thru Safari park ticket (regardless of a Florida resident status) includes admission to the Gator Park.
Wheelchair Accessibility for Gator Park
- Our Gator Park is also wheelchair-friendly as every exhibit is at ground level and the paths inside our Gator Park are compacted shells, boardwalk and concrete.
Wild Florida is dedicated to providing all its guests with equal enjoyment and a wonderful experience. If you have additional questions regarding our park’s accessibility policies, feel free to reach out to us at 407-957-3135 or by giving us a call on our toll-free number at 1-866-532-7167 .
Wow your group with the sights and sounds of more than 200 native and exotic animals, like ring-tailed lemurs, two-toed sloths, and more! Our Gator Pond is home to more than 150 freshwater alligators and crocodiles who were either born at Wild Florida or declared “nuisance” alligators brought to Wild Florida with the help of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), some of which are larger than 13 feet!
Savor the delight of a refreshing Wild Florida icy slushie or indulge in the creamy goodness of an ice cream cone.
What to Do After Visiting Our Gator Park
More adventure awaits! Once you’ve taken in all of the sights, sounds, and wildlife encounters at our alligator park, take a ride on one of our airboat tours. Our world-famous airboat rides take you through the Headwaters of the Everglades, giving you an unforgettably close encounter of Florida’s native wildlife.
If you’re hungry, check out the Chomp House Grill and fill up on anything from catfish and burgers, to fresh salads and veggies.
When you’re ready to head home, don’t forget to stop by our gift shop. You might even spot a baby alligator on your way out.
What to Do After Your Wild Drive
Take your adventure to new heights. Stop and hand feed giraffes on our elevated giraffe feeding platform. This activity is family-friendly and a guest favorite.
Admission to our Gator Park is included in the price of our Drive-thru Safari Park tickets . Your family will find more than 200 additional animals, as well as enjoy a variety of educational animal shows.
Safety Precautions
Safety at Wild Florida is our number one priority, and we are committed to the health, safety and well-being of our guests, staff and animals. No job is so important and no service is so urgent that we cannot take time to perform our work safely to prevent accidents or injuries to our guests and animals. Here are a few safety points and plans for our guests and animals.
We provide life jackets and ear protection for all guests. Children five and under are required to wear a life jacket. For guests six years old and over, life jackets are available along with ear protection, but they are not required.
- Wild Florida has a stellar reputation when it comes to our airboat tours. Our vessels are U.S. Coast Guard approved and inspected on an annual basis. On the vessels are life preservers for each guest, fire extinguishers, a flare gun and a throw ring if necessary.
- In case of an emergency, we have an accident plan.

You can get up close and personal with many different animals including alligators, zebras and exotic birds. Our park is inspected and approved by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) , United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) , and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) , which makes it a safe and enjoyable experience.
- In case of a snake bite, we have a snake bite protocol.
- Our animals are checked regularly by a veterinarian.
- We have a veterinarian on call at all times.
- We have an accident plan for emergencies.
See a side of Florida you won’t see at the parks. Experience untouched landscapes and acres of wildlife. Whether you’re an adventure travel enthusiast, a group of avid bird watches, or a family on their dream vacation, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories at Wild Florida.
At Wild Florida, we have an on-site restaurant where you can dine during your visit. If you’re curious to try a taste of the swamp, stop by the Chomp House Grill. Whether cooling off with our signature Swamp Slushy or chowing down on some of the best barbecue around, a visit to Wild Florida isn’t complete until you’ve had a treat from our restaurant.
Whether you are an adventurous carnivore who wants to try our Swamp Platter featuring gator and catfish or you enjoy lighter fare like salads and fresh veggies, the Chomp House Grill has something to please every palate. Can’t find anything on the menu to your liking? Talk to our Executive Chef, and she can whip something up for you.
Enjoy our great food in a rocking chair on our patio, in the air-conditioned comfort of the Cypress Ballroom or in our shaded Gator Pavillion along the shore of Lake Cypress.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to visit the everglades national park.
Thousands of visitors go to the Everglades every year without incident. The authorities recommend sticking to the paths and going no nearer than five metres to a wild animal. They also suggest taking plenty of water and protection from the very hot sun.
What is the weather like in Florida?
North and Central Florida is subtropical, humid and with a rainy season from May to October. The south of Florida is tropical and, therefore, usually warm and pleasant in the winter months.
How far is Kennedy Space Center from Orlando?
Kennedy Space Center is roughly an hour away from central Orlando and is easily accessible by several highways and toll roads. Depending on the time of day and location of your accommodation, it is advised you head out early to avoid traffic. With so much to see and do, many visitors find that, despite being there a full day, they don’t come close to seeing everything the Kennedy Space Center has to offer.
Nicknamed ‘The Sunshine State’, Florida really is a playground in the sun. Relax on the white sand beaches and have fun at the amusement parks, take a dip into the natural world, and find chic shops and restaurants in the towns and cities – you’ll find lots more to put in your treasure trove of memories.
Why you’ll love Florida…
- Relaxing on one of Florida’s award-winning beaches along the three coasts
- Indulging in retail therapy at the numerous chic and discount shopping outlets
- Sampling exciting dishes in the eclectic mix of restaurants influenced by Florida’s diverse population
- Experiencing a dive in the world class scuba locations
- Seeing the joy on the faces of your children as they hug their favourite Disney characters (don’t forget this needs to be booked in advance)
- Snorkelling in the beautiful, clear water at the ironically named Dry Tortugas
- Sunning yourself at Miami Beach, famous for celebrities and movie making
- Appreciating the Key West architecture
- Feeling the fear at Everglades Alligator Farm
- Taking a dolphin spotting tour from Marco Island
- Tasting the culinary delights of Miami Harbour
- Sailing in Biscayne Bay on Florida’s south coast
Did you know?
- The Everglades is the only place in the world where crocodiles and alligators co-exist.
- In 2014, two men spent 17 hours completing all 46 rides at Disney World. In 2018, there are now over 50 rides to choose from.
- Author Ernest Hemingway lived in Key West for many years and wrote A Farewell to Arms here. Bibliophiles will be fascinated by a tour of his old home.

Group tours, what is a group tour.
We define a Group Tour as 10 or more prospective students visiting campus to learn more about the college experience and Florida State University's campus culture. Group Tour Experiences can vary depending on the size of the group and the date of the visit. To begin planning your group's visit to Florida State University, please read the Group Tour Request information below.
Request a Guided Group Tour
Please complete our Group Tour request form at least two weeks prior to your requested visit day and time. Once you have completed the form, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your request.
Based on the information provided on the Group Tour Request Form, we will determine our ability to accommodate your group at the date(s) and time(s) requested. We cannot guarantee your request will be approved but will include any relevant inquiries or additional options in our reply. Group Tours are approved on a first-come, first-served basis and may be restricted during peak visitation seasons. Please allow for 3-5 business days for processing of your request.
Resources for Groups Visiting Campus
All groups are welcome to visit campus. Below, we've provided a few resources you may find helping in planning your trip to Tallahassee.
Virtual Tour & Self-Guided Tour Options
Prior to your visit, we recommend exploring our online Virtual Tour . This desktop version of our self-guided tour makes it easy to explore the areas of campus you may want to see during your visit.
We also have a self-guided tour app which you can download for easy use on campus. Choose one of our premade tours or create a personalized tour based on your group's interests.
Our online campus map has a variety of features to help your group get around campus during your visit. Find Seminole Dining locations, labels for on-campus Housing, accessibility information, and more using the map's main menu.
Admissions Information
Our guided Group Tours do not include an Admission Information Session. The Office of Admissions offers both First-Year and Transfer Admission information sessions virtually. Registration for these events is available through our Virtual Tour registration calendar .
Admissions brochures are available at the Visitor Center. Groups can inquire about publication availability at the Visitor Center front desk upon check in. We also have digital publications available for easy access and sharing.
Bus Parking on Campus
Buses are welcome on campus however roads are narrow and access to the center of campus will not be possible by bus. The best place for unloading, loading, and parking a bus on campus is the University Center surrounding Doak Campbell Stadium. From here, groups can walk to their destination on campus. FSU is very pedestrian friendly allowing groups to access most areas of campus on foot within a 15 to 25-minute walk.
For detailed information regarding bus parking on campus, please visit our Group Tour Directions & Parking Information page .
On-Campus Dining Options
Our Seminole Dining website will help you learn more about restaurants and dining locations on campus. If you would like to make a reservation at one of our on-campus dining locations, please contact Erin McDonald with our Seminole Dining Office.

Skipping the lines of 12 major rides at Universal Orlando on a $349 group VIP tour
![group florida tour Summer Hull](https://thepointsguy.com/_next/image/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fthepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net%2Fus%2Foriginals%2F2019%2F02%2FSummerHull_NewYorkHotel_LGAAirport_-020819_Lisa-Weatherbee-153.jpg&w=3840&q=75)
Theme parks this summer are...busy. Very, very busy .
In a recent earnings call, we got an official statement that Universal Orlando's capacity and attendance are pretty much back to pre-pandemic levels, which matches what we've seen on the ground. After a postponed 2020 trip, we were ready to visit Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter to take our oldest on a delayed 11th birthday celebration (which is, of course, the age when you get invited to attend Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books).
But between the summer crowds, the heat and the ongoing pandemic, we wanted to avoid lines to the greatest extent possible while going full-on into the Harry Potter side of things.
Universal Orlando actually has several available options for those looking for a shortcut to the front of the lines. Universal has private VIP tours and Express Passes, both of which we have tried before. But this much-anticipated trip presented a good excuse to try something situated at a price point between those two choices: the group VIP tour.

The Universal Orlando group VIP experience gives you a guide, walk-up attraction access, two meals and valet parking, but it costs a lot less than the private VIP tour. It also includes unlimited Express Passes for you to use after the tour concludes, but the ride access it provides during the tour is faster than the Express Pass lines.
After trying the Universal group tour out for ourselves, we found the tour to be outstanding for certain situations — and not so great for others.

Universal Orlando group VIP tour basics
The one-day, two-park Universal Orlando group tour lasts for seven hours and provides priority entrance into at least ten rides and attractions. It will start at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. The day starts with a private VIP buffet breakfast at Cafe La Bamba, which is also where the VIP buffet lunch takes place.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-9.jpg?width=3840)
Those meals and some bottled water are included, as is valet parking — which was extremely helpful and came with its own security screening. Normally, valet parking costs $75.
The group tour starts at $239 per person on the least expensive days, with rates going up to $300 to $400 per person during peak dates. For our busy Saturday in July, the group tour was $349 per person. This is obviously a lot of money on top of admission tickets, which are not included. However, it's magnitudes less expensive than paying for a private VIP tour, which costs over $3,000 . This is especially true if you only need the tour for yourself or a small family.
You'll get an Express Unlimited Pass to use when the VIP tour concludes. While the best way to get Express Unlimited Passes is normally by staying at a Universal Orlando Premier hotel such as Loews Portofino Bay Hotel , Hard Rock Hotel or Loews Royal Pacific Resort , you can also purchase the passes individually for anywhere between $110 to $240 per person per day if you aren't staying at one of those resorts.
If you were planning to pay for those extras, you are already a decent chunk of the way to the cost of the group VIP tour price.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2018/08/UniversalStudiosLoewsRoyalPacificHotelReview__19.jpg?width=3840)
You can price out and book the Universal group VIP tour online directly with Univeral or you can book for no extra cost via our friends at Mouse Counselors, who will help you navigate the pros and cons of all of these options for your group.

Our experience on the Univeral Orlando group VIP tour
We spent the night before the tour at the Hyatt Regency at Orlando International Airport using points and made the drive to Univeral Orlando that morning. While there were reports of back-ups in the garage parking and security screening that Saturday morning, we didn't have any problem pulling right up into valet parking and zipping through that dedicated security entrance.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-1.jpg?width=3840)
We were at the Univeral Orlando entrance within minutes after parking, ready to head into the lobby for the VIP tour, where you get your tickets and lanyards for the day. Our check-in time was at 10 a.m. and by arriving about 15 minutes before, we had ample time to pick up the included stroller and head over to Cafe La Bamba for the included buffet breakfast.
The food was good, but not over-the-top amazing.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-13.jpg?width=3840)
It's also important these days to note that it was a traditional buffet, and you are seated at full tables with people not in your party. Masks are not currently required at Univeral Orlando and there are really no pandemic precautions in play on this tour.
Our actual tour started at around 10:35 a.m. when our group of 12 — the maximum size for the group tour — headed to ride E.T.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-56.jpg?width=3840)
This classic ride is one of my favorites, but unfortunately, it was "on delay" (aka not working) when we arrived. The same was true for Men in Black, the next ride we attempted to ride on the tour. It finally started working right as we were getting ready to leave the building, so we rode our first attraction of the day at 11:16 a.m. Later in the morning, we had the same problem with Transformers, which we didn't get to ride.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-18.jpg?width=3840)
In fact, we only successfully rode three attractions before lunch, and it got to be a bit frustrating with the amount of bad luck our group encountered. Here's a quick look at our morning:
- 11:16 a.m. Men in Black Alien Attack (regular wait posted as 45 minutes)
- 11:51 a.m. Harry Potter: Escape from Gringotts (regular wait posted as 50 minutes)
- 12:48 p.m. Revenge of the Mummy (regular wait posted as 50 minutes)
- 1:15 p.m. Lunch break
Lunch was made up of a variety of buffet options such as salad, sliders, chicken wings, salmon, mashed potatoes, asparagus, macaroni, tater tots, cookies, macarons, fruit and beyond. We were also given more bottles of water to get us through the hot afternoon.

Thankfully, the afternoon was significantly more successful when it came to attraction availability. After a slow start that morning, we still surpassed the "guaranteed" 10 rides on the tour:
- 2:25 p.m. Hogwarts Express (regular wait posted as 20 minutes)
- 2:50 p.m. Harry Potter: Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
- 3:05 p.m. Harry Potter: Forbidden Journey (regular wait posted as 60 minutes)
- 3:30 p.m. Harry Potter: Flight of the Hippogriff (regular wait posted as 40 minutes)
- 3:50 p.m. Velocicoaster (regular wait posted as 80 minutes)
- 4:15 p.m. Jurassic Park River Adventure (regular wait posted as 60 minutes)
- 4:30 p.m. Skull Island: Reign of Kong (regular wait posted as 70 minutes)
- 5:08 p.m. The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman (regular wait posted as 45 minutes)
- 5:26 p.m. Incredible Hulk Coaster (regular wait posted as 40 minutes)

If the posted wait times were true, that was over nine hours of lines we mostly skipped since this was almost walk-on access (other than the lockers you still have to deal with before many of these rides). You often enter through alternative entrances that usually entirely bypass the traditional queues.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-19.jpg?width=3840)
And all of that saved time doesn't even count the virtual queue we didn't have to mess with for Hagrid's Magical Creatures since it was included in the tour. (However, that ride is outstanding and therefore worth whatever effort it takes to get on it.)
Once the tour ended after the Hulk Coaster, we were free to continue our adventure in the park on our own — which is exactly what we did. We rounded out the day with another ride on the Hogwarts Express and more time spent living out our best Harry Potter lives in Diagon Alley.

Related: Here's what happens on a Disney VIP private tour
Is the Univeral Orlando group VIP tour worth it?
Unlike with the (much pricier) Disney VIP tour , there wasn't a commemorative pin or any tangible takeaway item provided on the tour, but the $349-per-person fee did get us 12 walk-on attractions, an Express Pass Unlimited, valet parking, two meals, multiple bottles of water, large lockers at each attraction where they are required (usually, only the smallest ones are free to use) and a stroller rental.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-23.jpg?width=3840)
If we hadn't hit bad luck in the morning with multiple rides that weren't working, our ride total could have easily been 13 or 14 rides.
If you put no value on the meals, parking, lockers, the Express Pass, and other extras, that breaks down to $29 per ride for walk-on access. Obviously, the more value you put on those extras, the lower your cost-per-ride.
Given the very high crowd levels on this particular day, I thought the tour was an overall good value for us. However, there are some situations when I don't recommend this particular group tour.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/07/20210726_Florida-Theme-Parks_SHull-2.jpg?width=3840)
First, if you have young kids (or kids who aren't yet over 48 inches tall), you won't get the full benefits of the group VIP tour.
Our youngest daughter is right at 48 inches. It was a big debate between Universal team members each time she would get measured as to whether she was tall enough for a given ride, so we eventually stopped trying and had her skip rides on the tour.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-15.jpg?width=3840)
Unlike on the private VIP tour, where you get to dictate which rides you do and in what order, there are no re-rides on the group tour. This means parents can't take turns sitting out with a kid not tall enough to ride while each gets a turn.
The tour guide did sit with our youngest daughter while we both did the newer Hagrid's ride, but for the most part, one of us skipped anytime there was a ride she couldn't or didn't want to do.
Second, while this tour does help you avoid time spent in line, you have to be comfortable being in pretty close contact with mostly unmasked people for the day. Your group will stay together, ride attractions together, eat together, and more.
Frankly, while I planned the tour long ago, the pandemic situation was changing (again) by the time it actually happened, and it was uncomfortable for us at several points in the day — especially around the relatively crowded meals.
This is in contrast to the private VIP tour we did a few years ago, where we ate in an essentially empty Cafe La Bama restaurant and were really only in close contact with the tour guide. That may or may not matter to you, but it's worth knowing these days.
![group florida tour](https://thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net/us/originals/2021/08/20210810_Universal-Orlando-VIP-Tour_SHull-58.jpg?width=3840)
Bottom line
If you want walk-on ride access, have a traveling group that is over 48 inches and are OK not being the one picking out the rides and planning the agenda, the Universal Orlando group VIP tour may be a good fit. It offers many of the conveniences of the private VIP tour but at a fraction of the price.
Being able to truly skip the lines, get some "backstage access," enjoy valet parking, eat two included meals, score some inside info from your tour guide and get an Unlimited Express Pass to use when the tour ends is a pretty solid return for an added price that starts at $239 per person.
This is not the tour to do with little kids, but if there are just a handful in your group (and you want a special experience at a more reasonable price than a private tour), this may be exactly the tour you're looking for.

SYDNEY, Australia – Comedy rock duo Tenacious D, which features actor Jack Black and Kyle Gass, has canceled the rest of its tour after Gass’ remarks about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
While on stage in Sydney on Sunday, Gass was presented with a birthday cake and was told to make a wish.
“Don’t miss Trump next time,” Gass responded.
The day before, Trump was shot at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
In an instagram post Tuesday, Black said he was blindsided by what was said at the show.
“... I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” Black said in a statement on Instagram . “After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
Gass also apologized on Instagram .
“The line I improvised Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake,” he said. “I don’t condone violence in any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment.”
UPDATE: Famous comedian, musician dropped by agent after controversial comment about Trump assassination attempt
The group’s “Spicy Meatball Tour” was supposed to continue Tuesday night in Newcastle, with more U.S. date this fall.
Their touring company, Frontier Touring, announced the cancellation on Instagram.
“Frontier Touring regret to advise that Tenacious D’s concert tonight at Newcastle Entertainment Centre has been postponed. Ticket holders are asked to hold onto their tickets until further information is available,” the company said.

2024 Tour de France standings: Race outlook after Stage 19 with two stages left
![group florida tour Portrait of John Leuzzi](https://www.usatoday.com/gcdn/authoring/authoring-images/2024/02/17/PNAS/72636117007-john-leuzzi.png?crop=577,577,x253,y21&width=48&height=48&format=pjpg&auto=webp)
The 2024 Tour de France is in the home stretch as the competition went into its third-to-last day on Friday.
UAE Team Emirates's Tadej Pogacar continued to hold onto his overall commanding lead that he has set over the last few days by winning the challenging Stage 19 through the Alps with a time of 4 hours 4 minutes and 3 seconds. Pogacar now leads the entire Tour de France with a total gap time of over five minutes at 5 minutes and 3 seconds.
It is the fourth stage win and third time in the leading yellow jersey for Pogacar at the 2024 Tour de France.

During Stage 19, a shakeup in the overall Tour de France standings occurred. American cyclist Matteo Jorgenson (Team Visma | Lease A Bike) finished with an impressive second-place finish behind Pogacar in Stage 19 with a time of 4 hours 4 minutes and 24 seconds to move into the top 10 at No. 9.
That wasn't the only shakeup in the leaderboard. Derek Gee (Isarel-Premier Tech) moved up into the eighth overall position with a time of 4 hours 7 minutes and 30 seconds Friday. Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) saw another decline on the leaderboard as he dropped from No. 8 to No. 10 with a Stage 19 time of 4 hours 8 minutes and 48 seconds — 4 minutes and 45 seconds behind Pogacar on Friday.
Two stages remain in the 2024 Tour de France as riders make their trek to the finish line in Nice, France — compared to the traditional finish in Paris due to the 2024 Paris Olympics that start next week. Saturday's Stage 20 will be the mountain stage of the 21-day event.
