The 6 Best Las Vegas Brewery Tours

' src=

Las Vegas is known for its vintage neon signs, the best parties, the best speakeasy bars, and the best cocktails, but there’s something else that Vegas is becoming famous for – the craft beer scene! The craft brewing culture is going strong in Las Vegas, and it’s quickly becoming one of the best in the country.

Get ready to skip the typical bar scene and sign up for a local craft beer tour instead.

Brewery Row Las Vegas

Las Vegas is an adult playground, ready to indulge your every wish and desire. For lovers of a great craft brew, Downtown Las Vegas has made a move to be a major name in the craft beer movement. In 2021, the city officially created what is now known as Brewery Row Las Vegas.

Vegas Craft Brew Tour

Brewery Row Las Vegas

The Downtown Las Vegas Arts District area offers incentives for small craft breweries and taprooms. While not exactly a “row,” there are several breweries and taprooms that are all located on a central cluster of streets in Downtown Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas craft breweries that currently call Brewery Row their home include:

  • Beer District Brewing
  • Hop Nuts Brewing Downtown
  • Able Baker Brewing
  • CraftHaus Brewery
  • HUDL Brewing Company
  • Nevada Brew Works

Breweries on the Las Vegas Strip & the Open Container Policy

The iconic Strip isn’t as plentiful when it comes to breweries, but there are a couple of local breweries that are definitely worth your time if you’re in the mood for a tour. Trustworthy Brewery and Ellis Island Brewery are popular spots along the Strip.

One detail that makes touring breweries on the Strip even more attractive is the Strip’s open container policy. Adults of the legal drinking age can consume alcohol publicly on the sidewalks of the Strip. So, if you find a brew you love and want to sip it as you wander along to the next destination, this is something that is perfectly acceptable on the Strip.

Even with the open container policy, there are no glass containers allowed – so no glass bottles. Also, being belligerent or obnoxiously intoxicated is frowned upon, no matter if you’re consuming publicly or not.

Types of Las Vegas Brewery Tours

Types of Las Vegas Brewery Tours

There are two different types of Vegas craft beer tours that you can have. The first is to arrange a tour with a local company specializing in touring different Las Vegas breweries. This experience usually takes several hours, and you’ll typically visit anywhere from two to five Las Vegas craft breweries. The tour provider takes care of all of the logistics. You just show up and follow along the tour, enjoy some great craft beer and get a behind-the-scenes look at the brewing process.

The other option is to visit a brewery on your own for a brewery tour. Many of the local breweries offer tours at designated times, while some may allow you to come at nearly any time for a tour. Most often, those tours that aren’t scheduled can be described more as tastings rather than tours, although you might get a quick tour of the facilities. Some even offer the opportunity to request a private tour for your small group.

Both types of Las Vegas brewery tours offer a great experience, so we’ve included a selection of both in our choices of the best of the best.

For late arriving guests, we cannot hold the tour any longer than 15 minutes after the scheduled departure time. While we strive to stay on schedule, circumstances beyond our control may alter our plans. How many beer samples can I expect to receive during the tour? Typically you will receive multiple samples at each brewery during the tour. You are not obligated to drink each sample provided. You may not consume alcohol on any vehicle, or while traveling in any method between stops. There will be coolers on the bus to store your growlers or other purchases.

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU ARRANGE FOR TRANSPORTATION OR DESIGNATE A SOBER DRIVER AT THE END OF THE TOUR. Your guide will happily provide you with local taxicab or rideshare information at your request. Nevada’s blood alcohol level limit for DUI is .08, and the average male will hit a .05 level with two craft beers in one hour.

Do I have to pay for the alcohol and tasting fees? There are no tasting fees for the samples you will receive at each stop, as we have already covered samples in our all-inclusive ticket price. If you don’t want to, you won’t have to open your wallet at all after showing us your I.D. to start the tour.

That said, all of the locations we visit will have retail operations of some kind. Beyond the samples we cover for you, please feel free to support our local businesses by purchasing some additional samples (if time permits) or taking merchandise or beverages home with you. Many items found along the way cannot be purchased elsewhere, and we can carry your purchases in a backpack or on a bus-based tour we have coolers for cold storage!

When we saw that Las Vegas Brewing Company opened in the Arts District we decided to go check it out. The bartender, Mike was super friendly and very attentive. We ordered from their limited menu, since today was the first day they started serving food. We ordered the Smashy (cheese burger) it was very juicy and flavorful. The chef, JP?? brought out a serving of their Drunk Chips which were amazing!!! I highly recommend trying them. The location is very open with plenty of space for seating. So happy to have more brewery restaurants in the Arts District area.

The cocktails were delicious. Service was great. They had live music on the patio and it was just a really great atmosphere. Good prices and super friendly people. I love their other location on Tenaya, but this is definitely going to be my new go to spot in the Arts District

Live music

Figured I'd try this place out since it just opened. First the menu is really small...Burgers didn't have any taste. Smash burger was literally smashed ground beef grilled. I was told there was special sauce but also didn't have enough to taste. There was a grilled bun but it was still cold to the touch. Not a place to have lunch.

Brewery Rowe: With Ballast Point brewery shutdown, is San Diego’s beer mug half-full?

Filter Technician Alex Schaeffer works at the Ballast Point Brewery in 2019.

Also this week, local victors at the World Beer Cup competition and Quick Sips from Oregon

• Show more sharing options
  • Copy Link URL Copied!

I was vacationing in Oregon — see “Quick Sips” — when Ballast Point announced plans to abandon its flagship 107,000-square-foot-brewery in San Diego’s Miramar area.

Now owned by Kings & Convicts, Ballast hopes to cut costs by brewing in smaller facilities. This may be fiscally responsible, but what a dismal development! Home of the fabled Sculpin IPA, a brewery that once enjoyed a national following is shrinking before our eyes.

The Ballast Point Brewery in San Diego in 2019.

This was the latest blow absorbed by our local beer community. Two years ago, the area boasted 144 craft breweries operating 232 locations. Today, those numbers have been pared to 126 and 220.

“No brewery has been left unspared by the challenges of shifting consumer trends, inflation, rising labor costs and cost of living, and increased competition particularly for breweries with a large distribution footprint,” noted Vince Vasquez, an independent industry analyst.

Still, that’s a fair number of breweries. Are any taking steps to survive, and even thrive, in these turbulent times?

Absolutely.

Here’s Vasquez again: “Some of the breweries I see doing well are focused more on onsite consumption, frequently rotating taps and an elevated customer experience.”

He named Pure Project “as a great example of all this.”

Omar Passons, a longtime supporter of the craft beer community, cited Kelsey McNair’s North Park Beer.

“… in addition to having great beer what differentiates North Park Beer is that it feels just as genuine and authentic as its founder,” Passons said in an email. “He always said he wanted to be a good neighbor and an asset to the community and I think that, as much as anything, has enabled him to persevere.”

Julie Wartell, who teaches “Craft Beer and the Urban Economy” at UC San Diego, stressed the importance of building a broad audience.

“The good beer places have a beer drinker following, yes, but some of the ones that are successful bring in people beyond the focused beer drinkers,” she said.

They host trivia nights, running clubs, alumni associations, concerts and other non-beery attractions. Breweries large (Stone and AleSmith) and small (Deft and Duck Foot) maintain busy calendars of events.

These days, craft beer requires as much craft as beer.

World beaters

Kelsey McNair, left, of North Park Beer at the World Beer Cup contest.

In good times and bad, San Diego beer is a sure bet.

The World Beer Cup, one of the largest beer competitions anywhere, took place last month in Las Vegas. Our breweries captured 14 medals, improving on the 12 nabbed at the previous WBC.

The winners:

Coronado Brewing: gold, Nado, “international Lager” category.

North Park Beer (San Diego): gold, Ice-Fu!, “Hoppy Lager” category

Pizza Port Ocean Beach: gold, Junk in the Trunk Dunkel, “South German-style Dunkel Weizen” category.

Pizza Port Carlsbad: gold, 24th Annual Strong Ale Festival, “Wood- and Barrel-Aged Beer” category.

Battlemage Brewing (Vista): silver, Summon Ifrit, “American-Style Amber/Red Ale” category.

Craft Coast Beer & Tacos (Oceanside): silver, Chlllzner, “International Pilsner” category.

Culture Brewing (Solana Beach): silver, Kosta-busser, “Honey Beer” category.

Karl Strauss Brewing (San Diego): silver, Golden Stout, “Coffee Beer” category.

North Park Beer (San Diego): silver, Hop Fu!, “American-Style IPA” category.

Abnormal Beer (San Diego): bronze, Eddie’s Redux, “West Coast-Style IPA” category.

Craft Coast Beer & Tacos (Oceanside): bronze, XPA, “Australian-Style Pale Ale” category.

Fall Brewing (San Diego): bronze, Tora!, “International Lager” category.

Julian Beer: bronze, Dolphin of the Desert, “Belgian-Style Quadrupel” category.

Kilowatt Brewing (San Diego): bronze, OB Bubble Dubbel, “Belgian-Style Dubbel” category.

“Winning,” said San Diego Brewers Guild Executive Director Erik Fowler, “never gets old.”

Quick Sips, Central Oregon Edition

"Capitulation" beer by Monkless Belgian Ales of Bend, Oregon.

Capitulation

From: Monkless Belgian Ales, Bend, Ore.

ABV (Alcohol By Volume): 8.1 percent

Style: Belgian-Style Tripel

Drink or dump: Drink. I surrendered to Capitulation’s fresh melon and strawberry aromas; Monkless dry hops this with Citra and Hallertau Blanc hops. Bubbly and gently spiced, Capitulation is surprisingly light on the tongue. It’s truly a winner, taking a bronze medal winner in the 2024 World Beer Cup.

Venture, a New Zealand-Style Pale Ale from Sunriver Brewing in Sunriver, Oregon.

From: Sunriver Brewing, Sunriver, Ore.

ABV: 5.5 percent

Style: New Zealand-Style Pale Ale

Drink or dump: Drink. With its light body, Venture is easy to quaff. Moderately bitter, with the Nelson Sauvin and Superdelic hops kicking in during the sassy finish.

Electri-Fly, an IPA from Wild Ride Brewing of Redmond, Oregon.

Electri-Fly

From: Wild Ride Brewing, Redmond, Ore.

ABV: 6.3 percent

Style: India Pale Ale

Drink or dump: Dump. This jammy IPA should be a hop bomb — the brewery claims it packs 60 bittering units — but any enticing bitterness drowns in the pudgy, sweet apricot body. Electri-Fly never takes off.

Ellis Island targets Las Vegas Grand Prix in lawsuit

The owners of Ellis Island Casino filed a lawsuit for monetary damages it said was caused by the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

The owners of Ellis Island Casino filed a lawsuit late last month for monetary damages it said was caused by the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Filed in Clark County District Court on April 30, the lawsuit lists the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Clark County and the state of Nevada as defendants. Ellis Island is seeking financial compensation greater than $50,000.

Race officials weren’t available Friday evening for comment on the lawsuit.

Ellis Island claims that the race impeded access to its property during the race and during its monthslong setup and teardown. That infrastructure work impeded both employees and customers from accessing the property on Koval Lane near the Grand Prix Plaza, the suit alleges.

Ellis Island did add a race spectator zone in front of its property for the 2023 race. County offices are closed Friday.

The lawsuit also notes on at midnight Nov. 15, the night before the first practice round, that their employees were told they weren’t allowed to enter the area for three hours.

“Plaintiffs’ graveyard shift team was informed by F1 or its agents that no one [is] allowed to come or go” from Ellis Island. F1 asked the Ellis Island team to make an announcement on its casino floor stating that no one is allowed access to leave Ellis Island until the “hot track” test was completed, the lawsuit states.

Ellis Island officials called Terry Miller, of Miller Project Management, and Bob Seliga to report the events.

The lawsuit also alleges the county deemed the race a special event without requiring them to file for a special use permit.

The suit also highlighted that Formula One promoted the 2024 race before a county debriefing was held on the 2023 race.

Canada’s Taylor Pendrith captures CJ Cup Byron Nelson for first career PGA Tour win

MCKINNEY, TEXAS - MAY 05: Taylor Pendrith of Canada putts on the 18th green during the final round of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch on May 05, 2024 in McKinney, Texas. (Photo by Tim Heitman/Getty Images)

Follow live coverage of the 2024 PGA Championship today

Canada’s Taylor Pendrith captured his first win on the PGA Tour at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday with a steady final-round 67 (4-under). The 32-year-old outlasted a late run from PGA Tour journeyman Ben Kohles, whose hiccup on the 18th hole par-5 cost him a maiden title of his own.

Pendrith made a two-putt birdie on the 547-yard final hole while Kohles chunked a chip shot from less than 20 yards, making his first bogey of the day shortly after a birdie-birdie stretch to take a one-shot lead heading into 18.

The winning moment for Taylor Pendrith. He is your @cjbyronnelson champion 👏 pic.twitter.com/rX7kuHmvRl — Golf on CBS ⛳ (@GolfonCBS) May 5, 2024

Kohles and Pendrith have been pursuing their winning moments on the PGA Tour for over a decade, but on Sunday, it was the Ontario native’s turn to hoist the trophy. Kohles, who has fought to earn a PGA Tour card three times throughout his 12-year career as a professional took solo second place at 22-under.

“It’s crazy,” Pendrith said after holing his final birdie putt. “Ben played great today, he birdied 16 and 17. I didn’t hit my best iron shots down the stretch, but a good two-putt on the last. I feel for Ben, making bogey. He played so well today. But I’m super thrilled. It’s amazing — I’m shaking.”

Pendrith’s rounds of 64-67-63-67 to win in Texas will not only help lock up his PGA Tour status through 2026, but the performance will also guarantee him starts in the 2024 signature events, including next week’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hallow.

The 2024 season hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Pendrith. He has played through an injured shoulder for over 15 months, since last year’s Farmers Insurance Open. Pendrith was diagnosed with calcific tendinitis, a condition in the rotator cuff that causes inflammation and the formation of painful “calcium balls” in the shoulder. He underwent three non-surgical procedures to address the injury over the past year and a half, but so far the pain has continued to linger. Pendrith battles through the injury week-to-week and has lost club head speed due to limited mobility.

But the combination of a hot putter and some recent pain-free play helped Pendrith finally reach the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour. Pendrith is currently ranked 17th in strokes gained putting on Tour. He finished the 2023 season at 102nd and 2022 at 134th. The Canadian hasn’t three-putted in 188 holes.

Pendrith turned professional in 2014 after four years at Kent State University, where he was teammates with his PGA Tour peers Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes. Hughes greeted Pendrith on the 18th green on Sunday by pouring a cold beer down his neck.

MacKenzie Hughes needed to cool off the @cjbyronnelson champion 🍺 😂 pic.twitter.com/PWAnQqS9Fg — Golf on CBS ⛳ (@GolfonCBS) May 5, 2024

Pendrith played on and off on the PGA Tour Canada until he secured a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020 and converted a successful season into a PGA Tour card. His best finish before the CJ Cup Byron Nelson victory was a T2 finish at the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic. In addition to Sunday’s win, Pendrith has carded four top-11 finishes on Tour this season.
