The best travel blazers for men in 2024 according to GQ.

All products are independently selected by our editors. If you buy something, we may earn an affiliate commission.

In 2024, a blazer might not be an office essential, but traveling with one never fails to be a headache. The best travel blazers, though, are specifically designed to be stuffed into a carry-on amid sundry chargers and toiletries, and emerge fresh, wrinkle-free, and ready to rock wherever you land. A great travel blazer also makes every second of your journey—from safely stashing passports to adding and removing layers—a total breeze.

Each of the selections below embodies a slightly different take on the travel blazer concept. They also offer something that few other tailored wardrobe pieces do: approachability. Simple to care for, as comfy as your favorite shirt jacket, and easy to pair with everything from polos and chinos to button-downs and shorts, a great men's travel blazer can easily prove itself to be one of the hardest-working pieces in your travel wardrobe. Just don’t be surprised if it starts to make an appearance in your regular rotation , too.

Best Travel Blazer Overall: Buck Mason Poplin Carry-On Jacket

Poplin Carry-On Jacket

Poplin Carry-On Jacket

  • Unbeatable price
  • Perfectly-dialed lapels
  • Hardy, lightweight cotton fabric
  • Machine-washable
  • Skews less technical than our other picks

Buck Mason's highly packable jacket isn’t going to be the dressiest unit in your lineup, but that only makes it easier to pair with khakis, jeans, and chinos. Plus, thanks to a three-roll-two button configuration, notch lapels, and patch pockets, it’s still going to add a bit of grown-up refinement to whatever you match it with. In keeping with the brand's rugged mid-century aesthetic, the small-batch dyeing process lends a satisfying worn-in look to the lightweight cotton fabric, and the color options of khaki or olive drab make a nice alternative to standard navy blue. It might be closer to a chore coat than a suit jacket, but you can still buy the matching trousers (or shorts!) and rock them together for maximum points.

Best Travel Blazer for Performance: Norse Projects Emil Travel Light Blazer

Emil Travel Light Blazer

Norse Projects

Emil Travel Light Blazer

  • Snap-front buttons
  • Concealed chest pocket
  • Discreetly stretchy fabric
  • Poly-cotton blend might offend the purists

This Scandi streetwear brand has proven itself a specialist in the realm of ultra-light outerwear, and its take on the travel blazer perfectly walks the line between technical and traditional. Using the same formula applied to its versatile basics, the Emil blazer combines a lightweight and quick-drying cotton-poly blend fabric with a classic notch-lapel silhouette to create something that can play both sporty and serious. At a glance, it’ll do the trick for dressy occasions with a pair of dark trousers and a white button-down, but subtle details like snap buttons and a front zipper pocket speak to its true identity as a cleverly disguised piece of technical outerwear.

Best Travel Blazer for Tailoring Nerds: Drake's MK-VIII Games Cotton-Ripstop Blazer

MK-VIII Games Cotton-Ripstop Blazer

Drake's

MK-VIII Games Cotton-Ripstop Blazer

  • Unimpeachable pedigree
  • Hardy, lightweight fabric
  • Ample pocket space
  • Versatile enough to wear to the office—and priced accordingly

There’s a real art to looking turned-out without resorting to a fully tailored outfit, and London-based Drake’s has been demonstrating how it’s done since 1977. For anyone looking to emulate its brand of laid-back Euro sophistication, a piece from the workwear-inspired Games line is an ideal place to start. This notch-lapel three-roll-two blazer keeps things refined with luxe details like buffalo horn buttons and a lightweight military-inspired fabric with a subtle ripstop grid, but like everything in the Games lineup, the jacket’s roomy and relaxed cut makes it easy to layer over anything from an OCBD to a rugby jersey to a fair isle sweater—all of which are perennial moves in the Drake’s playbook.

Best Travel Blazer for Stormy Skies: Veilance Convex Wool Blazer

Convex Wool Blazer

Convex Wool Blazer

Arc'teryx

  • Ultra-sleek silhouette
  • Premium Merino fabric
  • Water-, wind-, and wrinkle-repellent
  • No front pockets
  • Not as versatile as our other picks

It may feel like a reach to entrust the folks behind streetwear’s favorite commuter raincoats with a tailored jacket, but it actually makes a lot of sense. After all, if there’s one thing we know about this Vancouver-born mountaineering-turned-fashion brand, it’s that when they do something, they do it superbly—and generously include all kinds of new technical advances.  Of course, the narrow notch lapels establish its blazer cred at a glance, but the Convex’s hidden slider snap closure, invisible side pockets, and straight, boxy cut speak to its many technical bona fides—including taped seams, zippered internal pockets and an air permeable four-way stretch blend of Merino wool and recycled polyester that’s water-repellent, moisture-wicking and naturally odor-resistant. In short, it’s a typical Veilance joint, in all of the right ways.

Best Travel Blazer for Summer Shindigs: Todd Snyder Italian Knit Sport Coat

Italian Knit Sport Coat

Todd Snyder

Italian Knit Sport Coat

  • Premium Italian fabric
  • Deceptively breathable
  • Straddles the casual-dressy divide with flair
  • Oozes old-school elegance; lacks technical wizardry
  • Dry-clean only

No one does breezy summer elegance quite like the Italians, which is precisely who Todd Snyder turned to to source the fabric for this sport coat. Its two-button cut comes in a breathable , wrinkle-resistant cotton pique, with patch pockets (for easier access) and a distinctively soft-shouldered silhouette (or spalla comica, a s they say in Naples ). It’s the sartorial equivalent of sipping Aperol Spritzes overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the perfect addition to your weekend bag. As with any piece of high-quality Italian tailoring, it’s as comfortable as it is versatile, matching as easily with tees and denim as a button-down shirt, knit tie, and chinos.

Best Travel Blazer for Fashion Guys: Homme Plissé Issey Miyake Basics Blazer

Basics Blazer

Homme Plissé Issey Miyake

Basics Blazer

  • Widely flattering design
  • Bragging rights
  • Scant pocket space
  • Prone to stretching with wear

Among Issey Miyake’s significant contributions to the menswear canon is the black mock neck adopted by Steve Jobs (along with Levi’s 501s and New Balance 992s) as part of his daily uniform. This blazer delivers the same level of easy-wearing versatility as that now-iconic pullover, along with the designer’s unmatched attention to detail. Made from a 100% polyester fabric that’s been heat-pressed to create a pleated texture ( another Miyake signature ), it balances this quirky flourish with traditional details like a two-button front, single-button surgeon’s cuffs, and a single vent in the back. All of this makes it great for travel, but like that iconic mock neck, don’t be surprised if it edges its way into your work uniform, too.

Modern Fit Travel Blazer

Modern Fit Travel Blazer

Some travel blazers lean casual, while others are just slightly tweaked suit jackets. This is the latter kind, with broad, notch lapels, and a fully lined interior for a more structured look. Thanks to a blend of wool, polyester and elastane, though, it’ll spring back to life after spending the day in your carry-on. Take a beat to consider picking up the matching trousers, too.

Setup Unstructured Upcycled Cotton-Twill Blazer

Setup Unstructured Upcycled Cotton-Twill Blazer

One of the great things about life in 2024 is the abundance of jacket options that combine the refinement of a blazer with the easy wearability of a chore coat. This specimen, made from deadstock cotton twill in typically versatile Mfpen fashion , has a roomy and relaxed fit that’s as suited to hot summer days as it is to fall layering.

Single-Breasted Shirt Jacket

Single-Breasted Shirt Jacket

The line between travel blazer and shirt jacket is a fuzzy one, so don’t put too much stock in the nomenclature here. What you should pay attention to is the uncompromising quality that makes this ( and every other piece coming out of Stòffa’s Italian workshop) worthy of your wardrobe. From the superb drape and slight shimmer of its navy tropical wool to the patch pockets and unfinished sleeves (making them easier to alter to your exact specs), the entire package is an ever-tailorable piece that will quickly become part of your daily summer uniform.

Water-Resistant Blazer

Brunello Cucinelli

Water-Resistant Blazer

There’s nothing worse than boarding your yacht for a pleasure cruise, only to have your breeziest summer blazer drenched by a rogue wave. That’s why Brunello Cucinelli, in his infinite wisdom , created the perfect garment for such occasions (and any others where you want to look like a globe-trotting Italian industrialist). This swashbuckling number boasts patch pockets, notch lapels, a jaunty three-button front, and is cut from a water-resistant ivory-white poly-blend fabric. Grazie, signore .

Traveler Linen-Cotton Blazer

Banana Republic

Traveler Linen-Cotton Blazer

It’s tough to beat the appeal of a crisp, navy linen blazer on a hot summer day (especially if your plans include strolling aimlessly, dining al fresco, or any manner of summer-vacation activities). Like most things the brand touches these days , Banana Republic nails the look, thanks to a cotton-linen blend with just a hint of stretch, a relaxed cut, and an incredibly reasonable price.

Lazyman Jacket

The Anthology

Lazyman Jacket

Wearing tailored clothing when it’s sweltering is an advanced style move that can easily result in you looking as uncomfortable as you feel. But you don’t want to risk feeling underdressed, either. This jacket, with its cardigan-like cut and Japanese cotton-linen fabric, is designed to offer an elegant third way. Throw it on over a tee or a linen button-down, roll up the sleeves, and prepare to look (and feel) as relaxed as its ‘Lazyman’ name sounds.

Unstructured Cotton Blazer

Unstructured Cotton Blazer

A relaxed straight cut, a three-button front, and connotations of French guys smoking unfiltered cigs and drinking wine on their lunch breaks make the bleu de travail one of the hardest-working pieces in the workwear canon. This take on that immortal genre, remixed in crisp black cotton by one of Japan’s most committed and patient workwear specialists , is just polished enough to double as a blazer in a pinch.

Travel blazers come in more flavors than Jelly Bellys—from traditional three-roll-twos to chore coat-adjacent riffs to futuristic technical jackets—but they all share a few key commonalities. The main quality that separates them from your roster of regular suit jackets and sport coats is how they're built. Typically, a travel blazer will be an unlined and unstructured, giving it a more casual look and increased breathability (an all-important factor on summer vacations).

In addition to perennial go-tos like tropical wool, cotton pique, and linen, travel blazers also come in an array of stretchy, moisture-wicking and water-repellent technical fabrics. And while we’d normally advise against anything but an all-natural fiber when it comes to tailoring, the wrinkle-resistance and easy-cleaning performance these fabrics offer can be a huge benefit on the move—and somewhat compensates for the ick factor of their petrochemical content.

The fact that it’s low maintenance is a huge selling point. Who said you have to go to a formal or business event to wear a spiffy blazer? You can also use a travel blazer to make a statement and have some fun. If your travels involve a music festival where psychedelic experiences are likely to ensue, spice things up by sporting a turquoise, lemon yellow, or hot pink blazer.

If those colors don’t appeal to you, not to worry; there are 22 to choose from. If you have your heart set on a green or orange blazer, those are available too! You can have any color under the sun with this slim-fit sport coat. If the music festival you’re attending is slightly more subdued – say a classical music festival – there are less flashy colors available, like black or navy blue.

Not only can you use this travel sport coat at music festivals, but it can easily be reused during any other part of your trip; because of its slim fit, it pairs well with t-shirts, shorts or pants, and a dress shirt. Depending on how crazy you want to get with the color, you’ll likely find a variety of occasions to add this lightweight travel blazer to other outfits. And – depending on your destination – wearing a burgundy or pink blazer on a regular night out may just fit in with the latest fashion trends.

COOFANDY Mens Casual Suit Blazer

COOFANDY Men’s Casual Suit Blazer is one of the best travel blazer for backpacking europe

  • Price: $52.99 – $67.99
  • Best Use: travel
  • Security Pocket? yes

While we respect the typical backpacker’s desire for comfort and utility, we highly recommend having at least one fashionable outfit on hand if you’re backpacking through Europe. Some of the world’s most fashionable cities are found in Europe – Milan, Paris , London, to name a few – and, overall, sloppy-looking clothing is not the European way.

While you don’t have to look runway ready to fit in, sticking out as a “typical tourist” isn’t advised. Not only does it make you a target for opportunistic pickpockets searching for unsuspecting outsiders, but it may keep you from access to higher-end or trendy hotspots that you’d like to check out. Europe has tons of cultural offerings – from super casual to more refined – and you’ll want to be aptly prepared.

This casual sport coat is the best travel blazer for backpacking Europe because it looks stylish and polished without breaking the bank. It’s also practical, with a real chest pocket, two front flap pockets, and an inside pocket to stash away more important items.

It’s lightweight and minimalist, so it will easily pair with jeans, a simple tee, and casual shoes. It adds just enough style to give you that little bit of pizazz you need for any venue or event you encounter on your European travels.

  • Inexpensive
  • Lightweight and versatile enough to pair with all clothing
  • Looks higher quality than it is
  • Needs to be drycleaned
  • Thinner than an average sportscoat due to quality of material

Paul Fredrick Mens Classic Fit Wool Travel Blazer

Meet the best classic wool travel blazer: Paul Fredrick Men’s Classic Fit Wool Travel Blazer

  • Material: wool
  • Best Use: travel/formal event
  • Weight: year-round

If you’re looking for the most wrinkle and stain-resistant fabric for your ideal travel blazer, then wool is the way to go. Made of 100% wool, this two-button blazer will suit all your travel needs without needing much cleaning and maintenance while on the road.

It definitely fits the bill for a more classic, refined look that can be worn in all seasons. Wool is great because the fibers naturally help you regulate your temperature. It’s breathable like cotton, making it comfortable in warmer weather. It’s also insulating, so this travel blazer will also keep you warm in colder temperatures. If you’re a frequent traveler year-round – whether for business or pleasure – a wool travel blazer is worth considering.

If you’re on the lookout for a classically styled blazer for traditional events like a wedding, a formal dinner party, or important business travel, this is a solid choice. It’s available in five classic colors – one of which is a marine blue if you want to spice up the color.

Another bonus is that the Paul Fredrick travel blazer is as practical as it is timeless. There are two front flap pockets and four inside pockets, giving you plenty of space for travel documents and personal accessories. If you travel a lot in all types of weather, this wool travel sport coat is a winner.

While we believe that the best travel sports coat choices we’ve presented above cover pretty much any traveler for any purpose, you may choose to keep looking around for a lightweight travel blazer that suits you better. If you do, we’d like to give you these things to consider to help you choose the best men’s travel blazer when doing your shopping research.

One of the main things to figure out is what material is best for the travel blazer for you –  depending on your needs and travel style. If your priority is low-maintenance in terms of washing, wool may be your best bet.

Wool is the most ready-to-wear as it requires the least amount of washing due to its natural odor, stain, and wrinkle-resistant properties. Just keep in mind that a wool travel blazer will need to be dry cleaned.

merino wool

If you want to avoid dry cleaning completely, nylon is a better choice. Nylon is extremely resilient, making it a good choice for more rugged conditions. It’s not the typical material you’ll find in more traditional blazers, and it’s probably a material you think of for windbreaker or rain jackets. Because it’s water-resistant, finding garments for travel outerwear is helpful for unpredictable weather or for more versatile use.

Then there’s polyester. Polyester is a very lightweight, quick-drying material that is very wear-resistant, which is why it’s what most sports clothing is made of. It’s usually not considered the most high-quality material for more formal wear, but it’s the material of choice for keeping the costs of items lower. If you’re looking for the most inexpensive travel blazer possible, polyester will be your best bet.

A good question to always ask yourself when shopping around for the best travel blazer is: how much do you want to spend? Thin materials – like polyester and cotton blends – will be the cheapest. For a lower price, you’ll likely have to sacrifice more advanced features like ample pocket space, zipper pockets, and quality.

If you want your travel blazer to be long-lasting and have all the bells and whistles of a top-notch travel garment, consider investing more money. A higher-quality travel sports coat will cost you more, but if you intend to use it for a long time, it will be worth the upfront investment.

Consider what you need a travel blazer for. Is it a one-off purchase to wear to a music festival, or is it a blazer you intend to use for business trips on the road? For a more professional function, you’ll want to carefully consider how the blazer looks – making sure it doesn’t look too “cheap” or ill-fitting.

men travel blazer

If it’s to look good out on the town, you can choose a less traditional style. It should look sharp but could have a more vintage look or an edgier look. If it’s a travel blazer you intend for many nights out on the town in many different cities worldwide, consider paying more for the one you like best.

If it’s for one or two nights out for a specific trip, you probably don’t need to worry as much about the quality and durability of your chosen travel blazer.

Pockets and Storage

How important are pockets and storage space to you? If you like to travel with your travel documents and personal accessories on you at all times, be sure that your travel blazer selection has ample pockets. An inside security pocket is highly recommended for stashing away more valuable belongings.

Packability

Since this garment is meant to serve you well during travel, you need to check out how well the garment packs away. Is it bulky, and will it take up a lot of space, or does it fold down compactly? Does it pack well if it’s folded up, or will it arrive a wrinkled mess if it isn’t packed in a certain way – like on a hanger in a garment bag? For business travelers, this might be okay.

best men's travel blazer uk

Keep in mind that if you’re a backpacker, your travel blazer will be tucked into a compact pack with a bunch of other items where space is limited. You’ll be better off choosing a travel blazer that packs down easily and is as wrinkle-resistant as possible.

Keeping your garments low-maintenance will help make your travels much easier and hassle-free – especially if you’re staying in hostels, as most don’t offer services that involve an iron or clothes steamer!

Still have some questions? No problem! We’ve listed and answered the most commonly asked questions below. Here’s what people usually want to know:

6 Best Travel Blazers for Men – Travel In Style In 2024

Yes, you have been led here correctly. This is indeed an article on the best travel blazers. And I will deliver on that deliverable by way of an eclectic, yet specialized set of the best men’s travel blazers.

But I’m taking it one step further. I’m slightly altering u/ZanderDogz’s prescient Reddit question: “Does my holy-grail travel jacket exist, or am I asking too much of one piece of clothing? in order to find the holy-grail travel blazer. I can answer that second part now: the answer is no, that is not asking too much for one piece of clothing. The holy-grail travel blazer exists and we’ve found it for you.

So, what are the specific qualities of a holy-grail travel blazer? It should be comfortable, formal, wrinkle-resistant, stylish, and lightweight (if possible). Let’s start with the main problem: wrinkles. To reverse the aging process, try exercise, cold water immersion, and intermittent fasting (you’re welcome).

To prevent a wrinkled blazer while traveling, read on. It doesn’t matter what seat it is: car, train, plane, hydroplane, ferry, helicopter, squashing a blazer between your warm body and a solid seat is destined for creases. A travel blazer can combat this with intelligent fabrics, the addition of elastane or Spandex, and high-quality thick fabrics such as cashmere. These materials tend to bring comfort in themselves, either through additional stretch, or extra plush softness.

Plus, when the jacket is lightweight, that means it can be easily packed into your garment bag and subsequently, your carry-on or weekend bag . It’s a joyous, practical, smart item that ensures you travel in style.

I have collected the best men’s travel blazers that deliver on their ability to look excellent before traveling, during traveling, and after traveling. Read on below for more.

Key Takeaways

For this assignment, I found recommended travel blazers online and trawled the internet for similar. I emerged with the 6 finalists. Overall, the best travel blazer is Suitsupply’s Havana Blazer . It valiantly battles wrinkles, looks dangerously stylish, is of a premium build quality, and is lightweight. This combines and satisfies the main attributes I was traveling through the Internet to find (I was dressed in a travel blazer while doing so, of course).

The runner-up in this category is the Eddie Bauer Ultimate Voyager Travel . This blazer satisfies a slightly different angle. It excels in its stretch and its weatherproofing, yet still looks close enough to a blazer to be worn with relative formality to dinner or a meeting. But, it’s a technical jacket at heart and there’s a poetic duality in what that brings. So, no, u/ZanderDogz you’re not asking too much of one piece of travel clothing .

  • Final Verdict

Best Overall: Suitsupply Havana Blazer

Why it’s great: This well-rounded beauty is the overall best men’s travel blazer for its trendy fit, versatility, and wrinkle resistance. But there’s one unique attribute, not of the suit, but of the company that makes it that elevates the suit. Let me explain. The brand offers customizable tailoring through an intuitive online “suit builder” program. It’s a seamless experience. You create a “Size Passport” by getting measured in-store or you can enter manually online. This is then linked to your account. Now, you can travel precisely the way you want to look.

How it looks: One Reddit reviewer wrote, “It looks very nice, very lightweight and doesn’t wrinkle.” The combination of an unlined construction and wrinkle resistance make it good for traveling. You can also accentuate the formal elements of the suit through styling.  Wear a grandiose full-length winter coat and some smart pants to make heads turn as you enter the restaurant (read “club” if you’re below 30 years old).

Flaws but not dealbreakers: The blazer is on the more expensive side of a travel blazer. However, the custom, or tailormade option is democratizing tailoring to some extent due to its breaking of geographical and financial barriers. Which, of course, is a fabulous boon for tailoring.

Sizes: XXS-4XL (32-50L)  | Colors: 2 | Material: 100% Pure 4-Ply Traveler Wool

Best Fashionable: Filippa K Boxy Wool Blazer

Why it’s Great: There are some esoteric folk on the Global-Inter-Web that live by the conviction that there is no such thing as a damn travel blazer . And this marvel of a blazer by Filippa K is a really good argument for this particular philosophical camp. It isn’t a travel blazer. It just does being a blazer so well that you’d want to travel with it, wherever it wants you to go. Which does, ironically, make it one of the best travel blazers out there.

How it looks: The double-breasted construction and the refined, tactile fabric make this the best-looking travel blazer on the list. It has a vintage edge to it thanks to the peak lapels and boxy fit. If you’re a suave tourist looking to catch people’s eyes while traveling to your destination; this blazer will impress.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: They call it melange, but it looks plain in the images. This is a flaw because sometimes the lighting of a shoot can skew the actual color of the garment. The beautiful style, traditional pattern, and billowy cut of this garment are all powerful enough to ignore the color inconsistency; if it’s anywhere near plain or melange, it’ll look cool. If it’s bright yellow, we have a problem.

Sizes: 44-56  | Colors: 4  | Material: 54% polyester, 44% wool, 2% elastane

Best Luxury: Luca Faloni Cashmere Blazer

Why it’s great: Time to get nerdy about tailoring. The AMF stitching sets this suit apart. It designates its wearer as a discerning gentleman of taste and a penchant for the finer things. AMF stitching (American Machine and Foundry) creates a noticeable stitch perimeter. This indicates the premium manufacturing quality of the blazer and sets it apart on this list.

How it looks : But, a travel blazer is more than refined stitching. Pure cashmere is luxurious and ideal for colder destinations. Plus, the fabric improves over time. So, when you wriggle against the seat, just know that you are subtly improving the aesthetic of your jacket. That’s reassuring, isn’t it?

Flaws but not dealbreakers: While cashmere fares well in light rain and cold weather, in the summer, consider linen or unstructured cotton as an alternative.

Sizes: S-3XL  | Colors: 2 | Material: 100% pure brushed cashmere

Best Budget: Uniqlo AirSense Jacket (Cotton Like) (Ultra Light Jacket)

Why it’s great: This blazer does the “simple navy blazer” well. It has balance. The notch lapel, symmetrical pockets, and minimalist two-button closure hit the right notes of formality without overdoing it. The quick-dry stretchy fabric is a joint venture between Toray (a huge Japanese materials company) and Uniqlo. It has breathability and light weather resistance. With the weather being unpredictable while traveling, the versatility of this blazer can help. Even if it happens to be pouring down when connecting between the plane and the terminal.

How it looks: Uniqlo’s travel blazers pop up time and time again on forums as reliable travel blazers. The amenable stretch means that the blazer is a servant to your comfort while keeping your look elevated. No wonder it’s one of the best travel blazers.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: You can’t machine wash this blazer despite it being polyester. Perhaps a sign of its delicate and technical prowess as a suit fabric.

Sizes: XXS-3XL  | Colors: 2 | Material: 100% polyester

Best On Amazon: Eddie Bauer Ultimate Voyager Travel

Why it’s great: This is a technical travel blazer. It is primed for the outdoors thanks to its Storm Repel DWR lightly rain-resistant finish. By logical extension, it’s also primed for conversations about HRV and peptides. Eddie Bauer is committed to making this the ultimate travel blazer. The two-way stretchy fabric brings wrinkle resistance and optimum comfort, plus, it’s machine washable. The design is smart but is still thinking practically. It comes with a zippable pocket to secure your valuable documents.

How it looks: Its stylistic cross-breed means that it will look as sleek powering up a rugged mountain trail as it would at a rave in an abandoned car park. One recent Amazon user attests, “Looks smart enough for a dressy night whilst traveling.” Ideal.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: The “technical” aesthetic, i.e. the outer zip means it loses a little bit of sheer formality and makes it a more casual wear compared to others on this list.

Sizes: 38-48 | Colors: 3 | Material: 96% polyester, 4% Spandex

Best Everyday: L’Estrange 24 Blazer Stretch Cotton

Why it’s great: This is for the environmentally conscious consumer. The regenerative cotton fabric is farmed using processes that draw carbon down into the soil. This technique also brings other ecological, social, and financial benefits. It’s important not to understate the regenerative effect on your general vibe too. This stylish blazer promotes a level of sauntering rarely seen in departure lounges across the globe. Plus, the 2% elastane brings a touch of comfort and wrinkle-relief. Finally, L’Estrange offers one year of complimentary services and repairs; now, that’s a neat touch.

How it looks: This men’s travel blazer has a super lightweight feel when balanced off the end of your fingers. It won’t take up too much spare capacity if you need to pack away in your carry-on, but when worn, it’ll feel relaxed and liberating.

Flaws but not dealbreakers: We love the minimalist aesthetic painted by the designers at L’Estrange. But, some highly critical folks may suggest that it doesn’t have an edge or a zinging personality. So, if you’re in the business of fashion statements, avoid it. If you’re in the business of business, snap it up.

Sizes: XS-XXL  | Colors: 4 | Material: 98% cotton, 2% elastane

Buying Considerations for the Best Travel Blazer

There are two main attributes of the material that need to be considered. Does it stretch? And does it wrinkle? These questions can be answered by numerous different materials. There are many routes to a single destination. A classic travel blazer will have a small percentage of elastane or Spandex in the material. The extra stretch is crease-resistant and aids comfort as you unwind on your travels. In this article, we also feature a pure cashmere blazer where the heft and softness combine to reduce wrinkling.

Style

A travel blazer is a blazer good for traveling. Duh. We’ve covered that. Style-wise, there are all the same variations as regular tailoring. However, a travel blazer can bring in more technical elements. These include zipped pockets, water-resistant fabrics, and the use of elastane/Spandex.

There is no one fit-fits-all when it comes to the travel blazer. Billowy and boxy is stylish but the excess fabric comes with more opportunity for it to get caught, trapped, and pressed into wrinkles. A slim tailored fit pertains to less wrinkle-risk, will probably be more lightweight, and take up less luggage room. So, err on the side of a slimmer fit, but that’s not prescriptive.

Why you should trust us

I’ve been modeling for top brands for over a decade and writing for top fashion publications for over five years. In that time, I’ve traveled to a lot of cool places (Tokyo, Mexico, and Buenos Aires) so I know the importance of traveling in style. For this review, I combined my stylish eye, my travel knowledge, and my love of tailoring to direct my search. I narrowed the shortlist down to 6 so that you’d only witness the finest e-commerce has to offer.

Final Verdict

The best overall pick for the best men’s travel blazers is Suitsupply’s Havana Blazer . An underrated quality of a travel blazer is its ability to withstand abuse from all the coarse seats, spilled drinks, and suitcase stuffings that one will throw at it. Not only does the Havana Blazer have resilience, but it looks suave and is natural, wrinkle-resistant, and lightweight.

Men’s travel blazers are blazers that are good for traveling while wearing. Bloody simple. Oh, and a blazer is the jacket half of a suit , by the way. A travel blazer can either be designed for traveling purposefully or it can be an accidental miracle. Travel blazers tend to be crease-resistant, lightweight, and comfortable while retaining the panache and formality of a traditional blazer .

The best material for a travel blazer is cotton or wool blended with elastane or Spandex. This gives the blazer its stretchiness, comfort, and wrinkle resistance. However, lightweight wool can provide enough springy resilience to beat the creases. As can cashmere. Polyester can also be manipulated to form an ideal fabric for a travel blazer, too.

It’s time to set your thoughts of Angus Young aside and rethink your blazer game. The enforced school blazer; the ripped punk relic; the ill-fitting Fleet Street jobbie: none of these jackets will be the subject of discussion today. Instead, we’re going to spotlight the blazer you actually want to wear.

For the purposes of this article, when we refer to a blazer we refer to the top half of a men's suit, also variously known as a jacket or sport coat. Like a jacket of any other kind — a bomber, a biker, an aviator — a great blazer can be worn with any combination of chinos , trousers , tees and shirts , making it one of the most versatile wardrobe purchases of your life.

Whether you’re a traditionalist in search of a herringbone wool number or are in the market for a tuxedo jacket to elevate your weekend fit, this is the place for you to find your new transitional forever piece.

What is the difference between a blazer, a sport coat and a suit jacket?

As set out excellently by menswear expert @dieworkwear on X, the difference between a blazer, a sport coat and a suit jacket is largely cultural. We echo his general rule that smooth worsted wool and small prints (such as puppytooth and pinstripe) typical of modern day office suiting constitutes more a suit jacket, while a thicker material such as corduroy or tweed is usually part of a sport coat. We also agree that the former should not be worn without its matching trousers, while a sport jacket or more roughly textured suit jacket can be paired with, say, jeans. A blazer on the other hand, has history rooted more in school yards and rowing regattas, often decorated with metal buttons and regalia. For the purposes of this article, when we say ‘blazer’ we’re referring to what would properly be called a sport coat.

What should I wear with a blazer?

As long as you make sure to avoid what we're terming as ‘the Jeremy Clarkson’ (that's a tweed blazer/ill-fitting blue jeans combo, for the layman), then it's hard to put a foot wrong in the blazer realm. That said, if you're looking for specific recommendations, let us oblige:

For a more casual feel, we'd suggest layering your tailored jacket over a white T-shirt or bowling shirt whilst adding some subtle, silver-toned jewellery for a chic image of elevated everyday wear. When the calendar calls for a more dress-code-friendly look, however, keep things traditional, and pair your blazer with tailored trousers , in either a matching or complimentary hue.

How do we select our favourite blazers?

So, how exactly do we choose what constitutes the best blazers for men in 2024? Simple. We know our stuff, we do our research, and we get out there to experience as much product as possible.

Our section head of menswear for GQ Recommends, Heidi Quill, is obsessed with clothes. Joining British GQ in 2021, Heidi might primarily look after clothing content, but she spends a healthy amount of time up to her neck in samples, checking product for the very best quality, price and design, all before recommending it to you. That includes knowing everything there is to know about a good blazer.

There are more than a few blazer styles out there; double-breasted, single-breasted, linen, utilitarian, vintage-inspired, or uber-modern… but, whether you've made your mind up on what exactly you want or not, our team of contributing writers and freelancers (Jessie Atkinson and Faye Fearon) are here to help. Scroll on for their findings…

Slim Fit Blue Donegal Tweed Jacket

  • Sizes: 32-54
  • Colours: Blue, stone, brown, green

Donegal: the home of tweed. Though originally hailing from Donegal, the term has come to generally denote a plain weave tweed with uneven slubs or flecks of a contrasting colour. This rich navy blue tweed oozes suave through the addition of lighter white slubs. The jacket is fully lined, which, in combination with the natural insulating wool makes it winter-ready. Put simply, tweed is a classic, and this jacket proves why.

Tweed Jacket

  • Sizes: 44-56

If you have navy suits and black tailoring up the wazoo, it might be time to try something fresh – yet still classic. Specifically, we’re talking about a tweed texture, which crafts this single-breasted Italian sport coat by Parisian brand Husbands. Featuring a striking ‘glencheck’ across the body, it’s shaped by flattering Roman shoulders, broad notch lapels and horn buttons for the fastening. Just stunning

The 5 Best Travel Blazers to Bring on Your Next Jet Set

From Arc’Teryx Veilance, the Lost Explorer, Nanamica and more.

Technical-Blazers-gear-patrol-full-lead

By John Zientek

The technical blazer is exactly what it sounds like. It offers the perks of rain jacket with the style of a blazer; it can protect you from the elements but looks good enough for an impromptu night out.

To fight rain and wind, a handful of brands are using a range of technical innovations from the outdoors industry, including AlphaDry from Nanamica and Ecorepel from Schoeller . The combination of high-end fabrics and detailed designs often results in mile-high price tags. But for people obsessed with packing light, a technical blazer is a worthy investment. Here are the season’s best from Arc’Teryx Veilance, the Lost Explorer, Nanamica and more.

Nanamica Alphadry Jacket

Technical-Blazers-gear-patrol-Nanamica-Jacket

Cut from stretch polyester fabric that utilizes AlphaDry technology, this jacket uses the body’s heat to evaporate moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable at all times. The design features two front button, concealed zip pockets and a notched lapel.

The Lost Explorer Yucca Jacket

This jacket is made from Japanese organic slub cotton treated with Ecorepel technology, a innovation from Schoeller inspired by the feathers of ducks that is both water and wind resistant. Ecorepel is biodegradable and fluorocarbon-free. The design features three buttons and three front pockets.

Arc’Teryx Veilance LT Blazer

The Best Wrinkle-Free Mens Travel Blazer

There are times while traveling that you need a blazer or jacket to attend a meeting or go to a nice restaurant for dinner, but packing an expensive and heavy wool blazer in a garment bag or carrying it over your arm for a long flight so it doesn’t get wrinkled just isn’t practical.

That’s where Bluffworks super light and wrinkle-free blazers come in. I was introduced to Bluffwork’s fantastic Gramercy blazer just as we were becoming fed up with the packing hassle.

Instead of resigning myself never to eat in a restaurant requiring a jacket while traveling ever again, I crossed my fingers that the Bluffworks blazer would do as advertised and not wrinkle.

Guess what? It not only lived up to expectations, it actually exceeded all my expectations. Where has this blazer been all my life?  What makes this jacket exceed expectations so highly? Read on to see the many reasons I think this is one of the best travel blazers you can have in your wardrobe.

1. It’s Wrinkle Resistant

As a frequent traveler, I really don’t want to change my packing habits to incorporate a fussy jacket that’s going to need triage upon arrival before it can be worn. The first trial I gave Bluffwork’s Gramercy blazer was to stuff it in my ebags packing cube along with all my other clothes, which I then stuffed into my regular travel backpack .

This is how I pack. Why should I change my ways for a blazer? When we arrived at our destination and I pulled out the blazer, I was sure it would be horribly wrinkled and creased. But it wasn’t! It may as well have been hanging up the entire journey.

It looked great. As advertised, the blazer simple refused to wrinkle. I wear it with the wrinkle-free men’s travel shirt from Bluffworks. It’s a no-brainer.

2. It’s Breathable and Lightweight

I don’t get excited about wearing a heavy, wool blazer in the middle of the summer. When searching for a good travel blazer, I underestimated how difficult it would be to find a breathable, lightweight jacket that still looked nice.

Now I have a few hanging in my closet that won’t ever be worn again, thanks to the Bluffworks blazer, because it’s not nearly as heavy fabric as the others. It doesn’t feel invoke instant sweating when worn outside in the summer. The Bluffworks blazer is not wool.

It’s a quick-dry polyester fabric with a perforated back lining that’s made to be light and breathable. Plus, the sleeves aren’t lined, which also adds to the lightness of the fabric. Visit Bluffworks online store to see their full line. Get 15% off by using the coupon code SAVJOURN15 (not applicable on sale items):

The Bluffworks blazer has high versatility and fits many situations

3. It Looks Nice and is Versatile

You’d think that exchanging an expensive wool with a breathable lightweight polyester would compromise the look of the jacket, but in my opinion, it doesn’t. The material is really smooth, soft to the touch, and nicely mimics the look of wool.

The Bluffworks blazer currently comes in two different fits (classic and slim), and three different colors (Blue Hour, Gotham Grey, Northwest Grey). I have the blue blazer and it goes really well with jeans, slacks, the Charcoal Bluffworks chino pants that I often wear it with.

I’ve worn it to both casual dinners and those stuffy Michelin star restaurants where a jacket is required.  I felt equally comfortable in both environments wearing this blazer. If you’re looking to pair this blazer with pants to make a full suit, I recommend also checking out Bluffworks’ Gramercy Pants , which pair perfectly with the blazer.

You can color coordinate, or mix and match. They have all the same features as the blazer – 100% breathable polyester, machine washable, wrinkle-free, zippered security pockets, and moisture wicking for hot weather.

Bluffworks also has a new dress shirt in three different styles (and 2 different fits), that pair nicely with the blazer, and as a full suit. I have the Highland Grey Check classic fit and really love it. See my full review here .

4. It Has 10 Pockets

If you’re looking for a travel jacket with hidden pockets, there’s none better than this one. It has 10 pockets, people! You could do away with the need to hand carry anything on a short flight, or while you’re out to dinner, because it can’t all be fit into the pockets of this travel blazer.

There are seven pockets on the inside alone. The pen pocket in the pocket on the right counts!

Travel blazer with many hidden pockets

I often use the inside chest pocket because it’s zippered and can hold my passport when we’re in transit. There are a couple of large inside pockets, one of which has a pocket within a pocket, for storing important small things you really can’t lose.

Both the outer and large inner pockets can fit my Kindle, cell phone, passport, and a small notebook for work. It falls short of fitting my 8″ tablet, but I don’t need my blazer to replace my entire backpack, so it’s okay. I hear that it can fit an iPad mini, however, if you have one.

Final Thoughts?

Aside from all the incredible features I’ve already mentioned, this mens travel blazer is also MACHINE WASHABLE. As someone who hates trekking things to the dry cleaners, this is a very big deal.

I stuck the Bluffworks blazer in the machine with a few other things, took it out to dry (you can tumble dry it, too, but we don’t have one in London ), and it looked just like new. No wrinkles, the material was still soft.

If you have to have one of these blazers (and believe me, you DEFINITELY DO) you can use our Bluffworks coupon code to get 15% off when you order. Just use the code SAVJOURN15 (not applicable on sale items):

You can check out the entire line of Bluffworks travel clothes in their online store . They offer free shipping and free exchanges within the U.S. They have both classic and original chino pants that are really comfortable and great for traveling (even long hours on a plane).

Believe me, you’ll like the Chino pants so much, you’ll wish you’d bought them in every color. Just get all your shopping done at once. (See all our favorite travel pants here .)

A Bluffworks Blazer review - the best mens travel blazer

The Best Men’s Travel Blazer: Bluffworks Blazer Review

This page contains affiliate links. Please read our disclosure for more info.

Sometimes a cosy fleece just doesn’t cut it. Before spending three months in fashion-conscious Italy, Simon upgraded his look with the Bluffworks Blazer, a wrinkle-free and machine washable men’s travel blazer.

Bluffworks was founded by Stefan Loble who is committed to making clothing that both looks great and can be worn for multiple days everywhere from the office to the mountains without needing special care. Their clothes are perfect for travel.

Simon is a huge fan of Bluffworks pants and has been travelling with them for years. They look way better than most travel pants yet share the same technical features.

However, he was a little resistant to trying the Bluffworks Gramercy Blazer  when they first offered to send him one for review.

His style is usually more casual, and he doesn’t have much need for a blazer when we’re in the steamy tropics. But for Europe, he decided it would be good to have a more stylish look.

Well, it didn’t take long to convince him. He was immediately impressed with the blazer and it was perfect for sipping prosecco in the piazzas of Italy.

Bluffworks Blazer Features

Bluffworks blazer downsides, pair the blazer with a dress shirt, pair the blazer with bluffworks pants, do we recommend the bluffworks blazer.

So what’s so special about the Bluffworks Blazer?

Simon wearing the Bluffworks Blazer in Paris

Bluffworks has created their dream blazer that combines impressive technical features with the look and feel of wool.

Wrinkle-free travel blazer

The wrinkle-resistance is what sets the Gramercy Blazer apart from other blazers. It doesn’t need to be kept on a hanger or packed in a special garment bag.

You can dump it in a pile on the floor or stuff it inside your backpack and it still looks great.

Suit bags might be OK for business travellers, but for long-term travellers with just a carry-on bag like us, they are not at all practical.

The Bluffworks Blazer opens up the possibility of travelling with a blazer to many more travellers as it’s so low maintenance and easy to pack.

Sometimes Simon wears the blazer on travel days (it fits under his packable down jacket for chilly days), but it also packs well inside his luggage. He just folds it and lies it flat on top of everything else.

I’ve read reviews that say they pack their blazer in a compression packing cube and it still emerges without a wrinkle.

The Gramercy mens travel blazer with a black tshirt and jeans in a cafe in Lecce

Stylish Design

It’s unbelievable that the blazer is made from 100% polyester. It’s such a lovely soft fabric that feels luxurious and looks classy.

Comfortable

The blazer is very comfortable, even on six-hour train rides or seven hour walks around Paris. It has enough stretch that it doesn’t feel confining and is made from a breathable fabric so you don’t overheat.

Hidden Pockets

The 10 hidden pockets in the Bluffworks blazer

The Gramercy Blazer has an incredible number of hidden pockets. One of the things we love most about Bluffworks is how they always include zipped security pockets where you can keep your phone and wallet.

It’s pockets like these that saved Simon losing his phone when he was pickpocketed in Costa Rica.

The blazer has 10 pockets, some of which are so hidden he didn’t discover them for weeks!

There are three pockets with flaps on the front, two pockets on each side of the inside (one zipped and one buttoned), a pen pocket on the inside, a hidden velcro pocket inside the left hip inside pocket, and a large zipped pocket in the lining of the back.

Whatever you want to squirrel away in the jacket, you can be sure there’s a pocket for it.

A travel jacket with hidden pockets is especially helpful when trying to reduce the weight of your carry-on when flying on airlines with strict weight limits—you can even fit an iPad mini in the inside pocket.

Simon often wears his blazer on travel days as the pockets are so useful for storing everything. At airports they can hold his passport, wallet, phone, Kindle, boarding pass, and even snacks.

Machine-Washable and Quick Drying

There’s no way we’re going to dry clean anything while we’re traveling, so the best travel blazer doesn’t need special care.

Impressively Bluffworks has created a machine washable blazer (they recommend 40ºC) that can either be hung dry or tumble dried on low. As it’s made from polyester it will dry quickly.

We haven’t washed the blazer yet despite over a year of wear! Yes, we really should do that, but honestly it just doesn’t seem like it needs it.

It looks as immaculate as when it arrived and doesn’t smell at all. We’ll report back when we do wash it.

The jacket is made from high-quality materials (including never fall off MMS thread-wrapped buttons), and if it’s anything like Bluffworks’ trousers, then we expect it to last for many years. After a year it still looks perfect.

This men’s travel blazer is very versatile. Simon has the Northwest Grey colour (no longer available) and has worn it in seven countries for a funeral, birthday party, Paris sightseeing, fancy dinners, theatre performances, and climbing Italian medieval towers.

It’s even comfortable enough for hiking or cycling.

The jacket can be dressed up or down—he has worn it with a t-shirt and jeans, with his brown Bluffworks original pants and dress shirt (see below), and with a white shirt and black tie (for the funeral). It’s an easy way to make any outfit look good.

Simon in Bologna wearing the Bluffworks blazer with the Bluffworks shirt and black jeans

Lightweight

As we travel carry-on only, weight is a major concern for us.

I thought carrying a blazer might be impractical, but it’s surprisingly lightweight for a jacket at 1lb 6 oz (624g).

And if you wear it on travel days (it’s never a bad idea to look well-dressed at immigration), it won’t add any weight.

Range of Colors and Sizes

The navy version of the Bluffworks blazer

The Gramercy Blazer is available in the following specs:

  • Colours: Blue Hour (navy), Gotham Grey (dark grey), and Asphalt Black.
  • Fits: Classic and Slim
  • Chest: 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48
  • Lengths: Regular, Long and Short

Simon got the 40R slim and I think it’s the perfect fit but, if he’s being particularly fussy, he thinks the sleeves are a quarter of an inch too long.

He could get it tailored if it really bothered him, but after a year he doesn’t notice it any more.

See the instructions in the fitting guide  to determine your sleeve length and chest size.

Free Shipping and Exchanges

US shipping and exchanges are free. You can get a refund on unworn items within 30 days or exchange unworn items within 90 days.

The customer service team are very responsive so do reach out to them if you’re not sure about sizing or anything else.

Back to Contents

It’s difficult to find much to fault with this jacket.

  • It’s expensive – At $340 it’s not cheap, but for the quality and technical performance it’s good value. As always we value quality over quantity and this is the only blazer you’ll need.
  • No women’s version – I could hardly wear my fleece next to Simon looking all elegant, so I had to pick up my own blazer. But Bluffworks currently only makes a men’s travel blazer, so I had to make do with a vastly inferior one from a charity shop (which didn’t last long).

Check out the Bluffworks Gramercy blazer here . Use the promo code NEVENDVOY for 10% off.

Simon in Lecce in the Bluffworks Meridian shirt

If you are looking for a practical yet stylish dress shirt to go with your blazer, a Bluffworks dress shirt is ideal.

Simon always travels with one long sleeved buttoned shirt, but the last one he had was always a mess once he unpacked it, and we rarely have access to an iron (or can be bothered to use it).

Bluffworks shirts are so much more practical. They are perfect for travel because they have all the usual brilliant Bluffworks features:

  • Wrinkle-free – No iron needed!
  • Soft and comfortable and a bit stretchy
  • Lightweight, breathable fabric
  • Anti-microbial and odour resistant – Simon has worn it for days without it smelling.
  • Machine washable
  • Quick drying

Are there any downsides?

  • Limited designs – They used to be available in checked patterns but are currently only available in plain (white and blue) and light blue stripes.
  • It’s pricey at $98 – But, again, as it’s the only shirt Simon needs, it’s worth it.

Check out Bluffworks dress shirts here .

Simon in Paris in the Bluffworks blazer, shirt and pants

Did we mention we’re a big fan of Bluffworks?

Simon has been travelling with Bluffworks pants for years (sometimes as  his only pair of trousers)—see our Bluffworks pants review . They are lightweight, quick-drying, wrinkle-free, and have hidden zipped pockets for security.

He used to have the originals but now travels with the Ascender 5-Pocket Pants .

The Bluffworks chinos are similar.

They both pair perfectly with the blazer when he wants a more dressed up look.

If you want to really dress up, you can pair the Gramercy pants  with the same colour blazer for the perfect travel suit.

Browse Bluffworks’ pants selection here .

Throw the Bluffworks Gramercy blazer over a t-shirt and look good for Italian dinners

Yes, absolutely. There’s no need to coddle the Gramercy like with other blazers—wear it on a plane for 20 hours or shove it in your luggage and it will come out wrinkle-free and ready to wear.

It looks stylish and feels comfortable, and the pockets are perfect for keeping your valuables safe.

The Bluffworks Gramercy blazer isn’t going to work for every traveller—if you are beach hopping around Thailand it won’t be very useful—but if you travel for business or just want to upgrade your look for stylish cities, I can’t imagine a better travel blazer.

Check out the Gramercy blazer on the Bluffworks website . Remember to use your promo code NEVENDVOY for 10% off.

If you enjoyed this post, pin it for later!

Travelling to more style conscious countries but still want to pack light? You may want to check out our review of the Bluffworks blazer!

Thank you to Bluffworks who sent us a blazer, shirt, and trousers for review. As Simon only owns 10 items of clothing, there is no way he would still be travelling with them if he didn’t love them.

Have they shared with you any info on sustainability or ethics? I’m disturbed by the lack of transparency on their website.

Reply ↓

Here’s what Bluffworks says:

Sustainability in apparel is a huge issue. We consider Patagonia to be the gold standard. It’s our goal to be on par with them, but it will take us time and scale for us to get there.

Our ladder of sustainability looks like this:

a. Product Design – There are a few aspects in product design related to sustainability: – making garments that are durable and will last a long time, to mitigate the high environmental impact of producing a new one. – developing garments that are able to be worn multiple times in-between washes to reduce impact of caring for them – in general, we encourage people to own fewer things (and never dry clean!)

b. Chemicals and Treatments – Our technical capabilities (like wrinkle resistance) are accomplished through the yarns and not harsh coatings (like Formaldehyde).

c. Dyeing – One of the most significant stages of the process. We use (and pay more for) dyeing under OEKO-TEX standards, which limits human and environmental impact.

d. Recycled Materials – Our goal is to use a high percentage of recycled materials in our products (but this is difficult to do). Our first product to incorporate recycled content is our Horizon Vest, which has 100g PrimaLoft® synthetic insulation made of 60% post-consumer recycled material.

e. Closed Loop – This would be us taking back 100% of what we produce – it’s a challenge, but it’s a goal.

Regarding ethics:

Labor and environmental standards are extremely important to us. In order to ensure we source from a network of responsible suppliers, we use a US company that is an expert in product development. This partner, who has run manufacturing for apparel companies for more than 30 years, is able to apply their longstanding relationships, experience and buying power to make sure conditions are ethical. Our partner has a team on the ground in Hong Kong, who visits factories, to ensure they are compliant and meet our standards.

I tried the jacket the sizing is incorrect, 42 regular always fits me at the store and it was too short. Plus, there is absolutely no structure and it just hangs on the body poorly, as you can see in some of the photos. Matching pants are a little baggy even with the tailored fit. I like the shirts because they are wrinkle free, but the patterns are not great and they are overpriced. I cannot wear Bluffworks into a corporate meeting and feel confident. I returned the jacket and kept everything else for casual meetings.

Thanks for the feedback Mike and sorry the jacket didn’t work so well for you. I agree it would be great to see more patterns for the shirts.

I’m with you on wishing there was a women’s version! It would be perfect for my carry-on only work travel.

Absolutely! Let’s hope they make it happen!

The best travel wardrobes hinge on a few pieces of gear that work everywhere for every occasion. When you’re ready to take your travel style to the next level, invest in a great travel blazer and you’ll be wearing it on adventures for years to come.

Every now and then you find a piece of travel gear or clothing that’s so useful and versatile it can change the way you travel. A good belt, the right merino t-shirt, battery case for your phone, stretchy travel pants, and even a good pair of packable shoes are all straight up game changers once you cross the Rubicon and embrace something that might not be in your typical travel wheelhouse. Recently, a travel blazer has joined my list of oddly useful, good-for-every-trip, must-have packing items for my travel backpack .

Carry-On-Sized Travel Backpacks

Bring everything you need without checking a bag.

  • Carry-On-Sized
  • Easy to pack
  • Comfortable to carry
  • Built to last

Whether you frequently travel for work, are on your way to a wedding, or simply want to see a new destination, a travel-ready blazer is a great addition to your packing list . Unlike the blazers you wear every day, a travel blazer is wrinkle-resistant, breathable, lightweight, and machine washable, so it can look good throughout your entire trip (no expensive, overnight dry-cleaning required). Below are our picks for the best men’s travel blazers, as well as tips on how to pack them.

Best travel blazers for men

The Best Men’s Travel Blazers

Bluffworks Gramercy Slim Fit Travel Blazer review

Bluffworks Gramercy (Slim Fit) Travel Blazer  ($295)

If you’ve read anything else I’ve written about travel clothing , it’s no secret that I’m a big Bluffworks fan. They make excellent, stylish travel clothing that not only takes an absolute ass kicking on the road, but looks great while it’s doing it. I get comments on my  Bluffworks travel pants  nearly every time I wear them, and the same holds true for the travel blazer.

This  wrinkle-resistant travel blazer  fits great, looks awesome, with all the right stretch and give to take everything from airport lounges to after hour raves. Machine washable (which is a surprisingly rare feature for travel blazers) and super comfortable, thanks to the stretchy polyester, the Bluffworks travel blazer features 10 pockets, many with zippered enclosures, to keep your stuff safe and organized while in transit.

Honestly, one of the best parts of a travel blazer is how it performs in airport security. No more dumping everything in that little tray. Put your phone, wallet, passport , boarding pass, headphones, and even a snack in the pockets and breezing through security looking dapper as heck.

Wear it with:    Give your travel wardrobe a versatile pop of color with the  Bluffworks Harvest Gold tailored fit travel chino pants  ($100) and you’ll always look great.

Alfani Tasso Elba travel blazer review

Alfani Tasso Elba Travel Blazer  ($119)

The Tasso Elba linen blazer from Alfani is a surprisingly lightweight travel blazer perfect for as a pure fashion accessory. Think the Azores, or “lunching” on a sloop with a dude named Bryce. Linen doesn’t pack as well as polyester, wool, or cotton, but it looks great, and won’t weigh you down.

Wear it with:   Bluffworks travel dress shirt ($125) . This lightweight, breezy style blazer pairs well with the clean stylish look of the performance travel shirt from Bluffworks. If the blazer gets wrinkly, whip it over your shoulder and still look like a boss.

Orvis Traveler's hopsack blazer review

Orvis Traveler’s Hopsack Blazer  ($329)

The wool blend fabric makes it great for fighting wrinkles, hiding stains, and resisting odor from a few too many hours on the road. (I’m kind of a wool nerd).

The Orvis buttons are flashy as heck, it’s tailored to look like a “3-roll-2” jacket meaning it has a sweet deep V when you only button the middle button—which is the only way to wear a blazer.

Like the Bluffworks blazer, the Hopsack travel blazer has the right amount of pockets (a button-tab pocket, zippered security pocket,“utility” pockets) making it a great jacket for keeping tickets, passports, and your phone organized, safe and still handy in transit.

Bonus Feature:  The lapel button hole is actually really good for holding your headphone cable and keeping your earbuds organized if you haven’t gone for  bluetooth headphones  yet.

Wool & Prince travel blazer review

Wool & Prince Travel Blazer  ($258)

This might just be peak travel blazer. Wool & Prince hand-picked a blend of Italian merino wool and added 25% nylon for the right amount of stretch—which is perfect for the road. Then they added five pockets to keep your stuff handy without ruining the jacket’s lines.

If you’re looking to upgrade your style on the road (or even at the office), this  travel blazer  is designed for sleek, hassle free travel that will impress. And it comes in regular or long length so you can really dial in your fit.

Wear it with:  Outlier slim dungarees  ($198). This blazer is fashionable enough to wear with jeans or other non “slack” travel pants. I’m a big fan of a the darker Outlier dungarees or a darker wash jean for a rugged clean look.

Travel blazers

Custom-Made Suits and Travel Blazers

Another great option is to get a travel blazer—or even an entire suit—made while you travel. I picked up a tailored three-piece suit in Vietnam for $150 a few years ago. Obviously, prices vary based on the fabric you choose (wool is more pricey, but definitely worth it), but it can be a great way to see if a suit or blazer is right for you.

I’ve upgraded my suit and blazer since those early days, but I really did get a lot of mileage out of that custom suit. There’s really no substitute for a tailor fitted jacket, and it’s nice to get one at an affordable price when you’re traveling. Just make sure you leave a little room for growth—I was a tad underweight when I got the suit made and it didn’t age all that well.

Thailand, Vietnam, China, and India are all known for their  inexpensive tailors .

How to pack a blazer for travel

How to Pack a Blazer for Travel (aka How to Fold a Blazer)

Packing a suit or a travel blazer isn’t hard. It’s just kind of weird. Here’s how you  pack a suit jacket or blazer in a carry on bag :

  • Pull one of the jacket sleeves inside out  (the lining should be facing out—including the shoulder pad).
  • Tuck the other shoulder pad  (the normal one) into the pulled out shoulder pad sleeve.
  • You should only see the lining right now .
  • Lay it down flat in your bag.  It’s ok that it drapes over the outside of your backpack.
  • Fold it in half .
  • You’re done .

The best part about folding a suit jacket or blazer like this is that you can “army fold” a pair of pants in with it, and keep everything wrinkle-free. If you want to add a pair of trousers, just fold them in half, then in half again, and lay them down on the jacket before you fold it up to fit in your bag. You now have a bundle packed suit that won’t wrinkle—even in a carry on backpack .

Travel Blazer Sizing Guide

The whole point of a travel blazer is to have a layer you can wear anytime, to any event. That means it has to fit well, and by that I mean snug where you want it, and comfy where you need it. A floppy mess will make you look like you borrowed your grandpa’s old coat and if it’s too tight… well you’ll look like an idiot. Here’s how to make sure your travel blazer fits well:

Determine your chest measurements

First, determine your chest measurements. You can do this by:

  • Looking in a blazer you already own.
  • Having a professional measure you, such as a tailor or dry cleaner.
  • Measuring yourself using the instructions below:

best men's travel blazer uk

Maintain the same height of the tape measure all the way around your body.

Make the tape measure snug, but not tight when you read the measurement.

Relax your arms (Natural arm stance is slightly bent, never straight) Take measurement in 3 steps:

  • Start at the bone at the top edge of your shoulders down to the elbow
  • Land tape measure slightly back towards the elbow bone
  • Continue down to below the wrist bone for final measurements

best men's travel blazer uk

Every blazer is different but typically blazer sizing follows these general criteria:

  • Small: 35”-37”
  • Medium: 38”-40”
  • Large: 42”-44”
  • Slim Fit: Typically 1” slimmer than a regular cut blazer
  • Long: Typically 1” longer sleeve length than a regular cut blazer (for men over 6’0” tall)

Those aren’t hard fast rules, but they’re a great starting point. To make sure you have your measurements correct, use a cloth measuring tape (not that one in the tool box), and measure your chest at the largest point, or your midsection if that’s a little bigger, then use the largest number. No judgement if your belly is bigger than your chest, you just need to use that as your measurement so that the blazer fits.

To measure your sleeve length, start at the center back of your neck with your arm slightly bent and follow the tape measure around to your wrist bone. If that sounds weird, welcome to the world of tailoring.

I’m a relatively slim, tall guy so I always make sure to get a slim fit (I’ll drop an inch in a regular cut blazer), and get the long sleeve length. Play with your fit until you dial it in, but once you do  write those numbers down . Your accurate measurements are your new social security number. Oh, and always go single breasted. This isn’t a suit jacket, you fancy bastard. Keep it stylish.

Why You Should Pack a Travel Blazer

What a blazer does for your travel gear is weird. No really. When you first start backpacking it’s all about “performance” gear. Zipper toggles and pockets inside of other reinforced pockets. Goretex everything. Then, a strange thing happens: you realize that you’re not spending that much time in the great outdoors.

A large part of modern travel is spent in cities (or on the beach if you’re lucky!) and you just don’t need survival style travel gear for that type of trip. So stop packing it.

Over the years, my wardrobe has gotten smaller while becoming (oddly)  better  for longer trips. And it’s largely due to getting better gear that just does more—like a travel blazer. When you embrace carry on packing you have to up your game with better quality fabrics (i.e. clothing that doesn’t stink or wrinkle after a few days) and outfits that look good in every setting from destination weddings, and co-working spaces, to  pub crawls  “walking” tours.

Fashionable travel isn’t just about looking cool when you’re on the road. It’s about feeling comfortable, traveling well, and getting stuff done—in a carry on bag . Bulky travel jackets can be tough to to pack. They take up a lot of space, wrinkle easily, and the worst part about most travel jackets is that unless there’s terrible weather (or it’s winter), you might go the entire trip without using one of the largest items in your backpack.

Travel blazers are different. They acts as an extra layer for chilly plane rides and windy walks to the coffee shop or that co-working space downtown. But what’s more, you free yourself up to enjoy your trip without a massive coat weighing you down or making you look like you just got back from Everest.

Travel Fashion Help! Reader Asks:

I’m looking for a lightweight work blazer that will be suitable for business across Europe. Preferably it will be smart, stylish, lightweight, comfy, won’t wrinkle, and will wash easily. Any recommendations?

Finding a women’s travel blazer suitable for business or leisure can be difficult, as it needs to fulfill many requirements. While there are plenty of options available, many of them aren’t appropriate for being packed into a suitcase and taken abroad.

Wrinkling can be a problem, and even the material matters; hence it’s ideal to look for something that doesn’t wrinkle much when packed or lighter material, so it doesn’t feel bulky.

We asked our readers for some of their favorite blazers, and this is what they suggested. The best thing is that even if you’re not traveling for business, blazers are a smart addition to any city travel capsule wardrobe .

Here are their top recommendations for the best lightweight travel blazer !

I haven’t thought of taking a blazer when vacationing, but after seeing all of the options and cute looks I will definitely add this to my list of items to bring.

Erin Cronin

Some of these are not really blazers, but sweaters. The person asked for a work blazer. I find the best blazers for me to travel with (I am flight crew) are Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jackets, Example- https://www.nordstrom.com/s/6588417

They are expensive -average $695- but they travel so well! They look fantastic, I always get compliments from a myriad of people of all ages and both sexes. You can add dickey sweatshirt/sweaters/jean jackets to the blazers for a layered look without the bulk. Nothing beats this for a professional look to a more dressed up casual look. Well worth the money.

Alex

Thank you for sharing your recommendation with us Erin!

Julie

Excellent advice!

Thank you for your feedback Julie, so glad you found this helpful!

Veronique

Thanks for this selection of blazers! I find it is never easy to choose a blazer that will be travel appropriate.

Rebekah

I love these blazers! Definitely need to update my wardrobe with some of these.

Karin Anderson

I never thought about traveling with a blazer until I read this. I got the Eddie Bauer Travel Blazer (hard to find – they sell out all the time!), but now I won’t leave home without it. It does double-duty of keeping me warmer on a cool day, and making any outfit look smart.

Judy O’Hara

I am looking for a travel blazer in petite sizes. The sleeves are too long on regular sizes.

Claire

MM LaFleur has some good packable blazer/jardigan options.

Thank you for sharing your recommendation with us Claire!!!

Carlene

Hi, the Anatomie blazer link takes you to the wrong blazer, just FYI

Hi Carlene, whoops!!! Thank you for letting us know ?

Shelley

I’ve seen packing in the packing cubes. However, you DON”T show how to fold and pack the blazer. I’d love to know how to fold and pack those and other bulkier items.

Great article. I have two of the Uniqlo blazers. They are the most comfortable blazers! Looks equally as good with a dress, or jeans, a graphic tee and converse. One note, I had no idea they were dry clean only. I always just wash in cold water and they are holding up just fine. Highly recommend them!

Yay, so pleased you enjoyed the video Amy!! Thank you for your feedback and review of the Uniqlo blazers!!

Tracey Marks

Just a little note on the Eddie Bauer travel blazer. I purchased this blazer from Eddie Bauer based on your blog post but I had to return it. Turns out, the blazer is actually not lightweight at all. It was just under 2 lbs, which is WAY too heavy if you’re traveling light. It takes up as much room in the suitcase as any other blazer I’ve tried, also. It is a flattering, nice and comfortable blazer and resists wrinkles, but it’s not ideal if you’re trying to pack light or save space.

alex

Thanks for the feedback Tracey! The items were all recommendations from our readers, I’m sorry this one didn’t work out for you 🙁

Whether you’re traveling by plane, train , or automobile , the process is inherently uncomfortable. Luckily, there’s a new breed of jacket on the market designed specifically for travel, blending the classic look of a blazer with a few key technical details that make going from here to there a little comfier. Wear one of these travel blazers and you’ll be comfortable and look good even on your longest travel days.

Bluffworks Gramercy Blazer ($235)

best men's travel blazer uk

Bluffworks goes all in on the technical aspects of this blazer , constructing it from 100 percent polyester, which dries quickly, breathes well, and has plenty of stretch but still manages to feel lightweight. Ten pockets give you loads of storage for notebooks, phone, plane tickets, or snacks. Best of all, it’s legitimately wrinkle-resistant, so you can pull it out of your bag, give it a shake, and wear it with confidence.

Duluth Trading Company DuluthFlex Fire Hose Presentation Jacket ($160)

best men's travel blazer uk

This is the heaviest jacket on this list, making it perfect for winter trips when you want to look good right off the plane. It’s constructed from thick cotton with 2 percent spandex for an incredible amount of stretch. The bi-swing back adds mobility, and armpit gussets give it extra breathability. We love that this jacket has 11 pockets, some of which are zippered to keep items secure.

Nau Men’s Utility Kush Blazer ($150)

best men's travel blazer uk

The construction of this jacket is split almost evenly between cotton denim and hemp. It’s unlined and lightweight, making it perfect for spring. A zippered chest pocket is big enough for your phone.

Taylor Stitch Everyday Blazer ($350)

best men's travel blazer uk

You can never go wrong with wool, which is naturally wrinkle-resistant and antimicrobial. The Everyday blazer is made from nine ounces of wool for a lightweight layer that’s versatile enough to wear to the coffee shop or a summer wedding. A bit of stretch helps make this classic blue blazer one of the most comfortable garments in your closet.

Eddie Bauer Departure Packable Blazer ($150)

best men's travel blazer uk

Eddie Bauer offers a few different travel blazers that we love, but the Departure is the most travel-ready. The mix of polyester and spandex with a DWR finish turns this blazer into a water-resistant layer. We liked the interior zippered pocket, which has an earbud port, but we were really won over by how this blazer packs into its own pocket for easy storage. If it gets wrinkled, just hang it in the bathroom while you take a hot shower and the creases will steam out.

Frequently Asked Questions

shape, rectangle

How Should a Blazer Fit? When it comes to finding the right blazer, fit is truly king. You want to look for options that lightly hug your midsection when the top button is fastened, without constricting your body or movement. The blazer's collar should rest against the back of your shirt collar, and the shoulder seams should end where your shoulders do. As for the sleeves (which may remind you of the importance of finding a great local tailor!), they should land between your wrist and your thumb. What Should I Look For? As we mentioned above, fit is the primary thing to consider when looking for a blazer, but you also want to think about material, color, and style. For the warmer months, you should seek out blazers that are made of a lightweight, breathable fabric like linen or cotton. But if you plan on rocking your favorite blazer in the winter, wool is your go-to. Style, as we know, all depends on individual preference, but it's important to keep in mind that single-breasted blazers typically have one button, whereas double-breasted blazers come with two columns of buttons and more fabric. And as for color, if you want a more classic style, choose a black or navy blazer, but if you're looking to add a little flair to your wardrobe, you can never go wrong with a green or striped pick. How Did Esquire Choose? We tested hundreds of different blazers to create a comprehensive list of the 17 best options. Not only did we look at things like price, material, fit, and style, but we also wanted to find picks that were versatile and had the potential to become your new closet staple.

Why You Can Trust Esquire

shape, rectangle

We're not going to say something is great unless it's actually great. Every product in Esquire's roundups is carefully chosen by our fashion and e-commerce teams.

When it comes to blazers, you can rest assured that we're hand-selecting styles that we've personally tried, tested, and loved, along with options that the rest of our stylish colleagues here at Esquire endorse for their own wear. We've had to go through a lot of trial and error, and these blazers are the ones that are simply the best.

Every pick on this list (and our other lists!) comes from years of wearing different things, seeing what we love and what we don't, and going from there. No two tastes are the same, and no two men are the same. Your proverbial mileage may vary. But if you're looking for the right place to start, with advice from folks who care (possibly too much!) about this sort of stuff, this is the place to be.

These shirts tend to run small and will shrink after washing, so we recommend sizing up.

It may be the most basic article of clothing on this list, but it’s also the most important. A good T-shirt is a travel necessity. It must fit properly, be thin enough to layer, and stand up to the elements of sweating, temperamental climates, and anything an overnight flight, walking tour, or dining al fresco may throw your way.

This True Classic crewneck, which boasts a comfortable soft tag and cotton-jersey blend, was also designed with style in mind by incorporating a side seam for a slimmer look. I also love how the arm and shoulder stitching accentuates my muscles (which need all the help they can get) while not feeling too restrictive for everyday activities like hailing a taxi, lifting my suitcase, or spooning literal pounds of pasta into my mouth. Consider it the foundation for any outfit, though it certainly looks effortlessly chic on its own with a pair of jeans and loafers.

The Details: S to XXXXL | 60 percent combed ringspun cotton, 40 percent polyester jersey

Everlane The Performance Traveler Chino

The versatility in design and comfort allows for these to be dressed up or down at a moment’s notice.

The back pockets are somewhat stiff and difficult to use.

Sweat-wicking, quick-drying, and made with four-way stretch, these versatile pants can be worn on the plane and then straight to any event. In fact, I just flew to Chicago for an event where I swapped my True Classics tee for the chambray button-down below, but kept on these chinos because they easily transitioned into a more polished nighttime ensemble.

When worn during the day, an invisible zipper pocket holds a wallet or hotel key to give you peace of mind as you explore more crowded tourist areas, while an elastic interior waistband allows you the movement to chase down a criminal, should they be able to run off with said wallet or hotel key.

The Details: 28- to 40-inch waist, 28- and 30-inch length | 94 percent cotton, 6 percent elastane

Best Button-down

J.crew organic cotton chambray shirt in 5-year wash.

High-quality fabric and construction will guarantee that this garment lasts for decades to come.

The classic fit runs quite large, as it’s meant to be baggy. Opt for slim if you’re looking for something more tailored.

A chambray button-down is a timeless staple in any wardrobe. And the longer you wear it, the more character it develops with natural fading and inevitable stains. This is good news for travelers like me who practically destroy their wardrobe after a single trip. Not only does this look snazzy tucked into a pleated chino, but it can also be worn over shorts, linen pants, or even a bathing suit for an elevated look on a yacht or at a summer beach party. Best of all, J.Crew has made a commitment to source only organic cotton without the use of toxic chemicals or soil-damaging GMOs, so it’s a purchase you can feel extra good about.

The Details: XS to XXL (Classic, Slim, Slim Untucked, Tall, Relaxed) | 100 percent organic cotton

Ralph Lauren Slim Fit Mesh Polo Shirt

There are over 50 color offerings with the option to monogram.

It’s a bit pricey.

When a clothing company’s logo is literally a polo horse, you can assume it more than delivers in manufacturing a superior polo shirt. And that’s precisely what Ralph Lauren does with its classic slim fit mesh polo, available in an overwhelming number of colors to match any wardrobe or outfit.

The beauty of a polo is that it can be worn casually, untucked, or ultra-preppy when paired with seersucker pants and dress shoes. Pop the collar for a vintage feel, but also enjoy the highly breathable cotton mesh that lends itself well to hotter days when a tee or tank isn’t dressy enough.

The Details: XS to XXL (classic, custom slim, slim) | 100 percent cotton

Best Joggers

Columbia black mesa knit joggers.

The polyester and elastane fabric hybrid is both comfortable and flexible.

There are only two color options.

A versatile pair of joggers is perfect whether you’re searching for something a little more comfortable to wear on the plane or literally jogging to catch a departing flight, and these Black Mesa Knit Joggers from Columbia are a travel day game changer. They also make a wonderful top layer over athletic shorts, should you prefer something to warm up in while heading to the gym. Thanks to the joggers’ Omni-Wick technology that pulls moisture from the fabric, these are ideal for hiking, white water rafting, or even rock climbing. I recently wore them through a rainforest trek in Patagonia and emerged completely dry, thanks to the material and intelligently designed features like a drawcord adjustable waist and zip-closed security pocket that warded off raindrops and mist.

The Details: XS to XXL | 88 percent polyester, 12 percent elastane

Best Shorts

Vuori banks short.

Made with partially recycled plastic bottles, the company has also made a commitment to sustainability.

The lighter colors can look a bit sheer.

Paired with a workout shirt , you can bank on the Banks Short when it comes to the perfect athletic bottom for lifting, running, or meandering through museums. Featuring four-way stretch and anti-odor fabric, Vuori built these with the active traveler in mind, who may go from a morning bike session to lunch in a popular city square.

They also fit like a dream with a scalloped leg and vintage-looking white piping that nods to the retro gym shorts of days past. The breathability is its biggest highlight — you can walk great distances and not feel like your legs are chafing or getting overheated, which is important if you’re going multiple hours without the ability to change outfits.

The Details: XS to XXL |  45 percent recycled polyester, 45 percent polyester, 10 percent elastane

Best Swimsuit

Parke & ronen catalonia stretch swimsuit.

There are many trendy patterns to choose from and the overall design is flattering for practically any body shape.

A full mesh lining may be a deterrent to some customers.

I own and continue to wear a Parke & Ronen bathing suit that I purchased in 2010. It’s a testament to the company’s commitment to quality and durability and their Catalonia line is no exception. These boast side and back pockets, as well as built-in stretch so you can play that pick-up game of beach volleyball without worrying about damaging the garment (and your man parts). They’re also available in varying lengths, depending on how much leg you want to show off, as well as girlfriend-approved designs that range from pastel florals to eye-catching geometrics.

The Details: 28 to 36 | 100 percent polyester

Best Jacket

Bonobos boulevard bomber.

The quality of Bonobos’ products guarantees that they will stand up for many years to come.

Side pockets have snaps and not zippers, which means items are less secure.

When it comes to travel jackets, you want something that is thick enough to keep you warm on cold flights, but thin enough to appear effortlessly chic. Enter the bomber: a men’s wardrobe must-have. Aside from looking “cool” (hello, Tom Cruise in “Top Gun”), a bomber always accentuates (and doesn’t distract from) an outfit with its naturally clean lines and lack of oversized collar.

Plus, you’re going to want a sturdier cotton, like the one used here, to potentially use as an in-flight pillow or blanket. It’s also water-repellent if you’re caught in a sudden storm or are prone to spills.

The Details: XS to XXL | 92 percent cotton, 8 percent spandex

Best Lightweight Sweater

Nadaam the original cashmere men's sweater.

At under $100, this 100 percent cashmere sweater is priced affordably.

The fabric is a bit thin, making it more susceptible to holes and pilling.

A lightweight sweater is not just a necessity for warmth and comfort, but also to layer over a button-down or polo for a more formal look. Sourced from Mongolia and available in limited edition hues such as apricot, merlot, and nectar, owning high-quality cashmere isn’t out of reach since this garment famously retails for only $98. When not in use, tie it around your shoulders or waist and you’ll simply forget it’s there.

The Details: XXS to XXL | 100 percent cashmere

Best Hoodie

Aviator nation 5 stripe zip hoodie.

Sizes and styles are unisex, so you can easily share it with a partner.

Due to the brand’s surge in popularity, the most attractive color combinations are often sold out.

Aviator Nation has emerged as an athleisure frontrunner with its extensive line of colorful hoodies. Perhaps its most iconic offering is the 5 Stripe Hoodie, available in its signature rainbow palette. But there are a handful of neutral options that can match practically whatever you’re donning underneath, as well. Comfort also reigns supreme — these were designed to keep you warm and cozy on planes, but they won’t overheat you if worn on a sunny day after a surfing lesson or casual boardwalk stroll.

The Details: XS to XXL | 50 percent polyester, 38 percent cotton, 12 percent rayon

Best Sneakers

Wolf & shepherd crossover victory trainer.

There is an impressively wide size range.

The shoe fits more narrow at the toe and may not be great for those with wide feet.

Transitioning from day to night can be difficult with most sneakers, but these Wolf & Shepherd Crossover Victory Trainers get the job done with a classic, yet trendy style. Though they’re available in six shades, my favorite is the white on white with pops of camel, khaki, and navy. They match every article of clothing on this list and are constructed so flawlessly that nobody would ever know they’re tailored to mold to the shape of your feet over time, much like a typically ugly orthopedic shoe.

The Details: 6 to 15 | 100 percent leather, textile and synthetic upper/textile and leather lining/rubber sole

Best Sandals

Todd snyder tuscan leather thong.

The design is fashion-forward, unique, and makes it appear like you put extra effort into your appearance.

These are not the ones to wear after getting out of the pool or beach. Sea and/or chlorinated water can easily damage the leather.

In the great sandal debate, many people have a preference for either thongs or slides. Now you can have the best of both worlds with this Todd Snyder hybrid, manufactured with buttery Italian leather for an even dressier look than most foam and polyester varieties. As a Floridian, I can’t begin to tell you how many compliments I receive while sporting these around my sunny hometown of Naples.

I’ve worn them to outdoor soirees, backyard barbecues, fancy restaurants with al fresco dining, and practically anywhere my feet may need a bit of breathing room — and they surpass my expectations every time. Easy to pack, sturdy, and backed by the quality you’d expect from Todd Snyder, it’s a purchase you won’t regret.

The Details: 7 to 13 | 100 percent leather

Tips for Buying Men’s Travel Clothes

Create a travel capsule wardrobe.

A travel capsule wardrobe is composed of basic clothing items that can be mixed, matched, and repurposed to style multiple outfits during a trip. The goal is to create more space in your suitcase so you can travel lighter and avoid exorbitant excess baggage fees, especially on international flights.

When putting together a travel capsule wardrobe, consider more neutral colors so they’re easier to pair with other pieces.

Choose the right materials

Keep material in mind, as well. Many pants and shorts are constructed to double as athletic and casual wear, which can also help limit what you pack. Some fabrics, like cotton and wrinkle-resistant polyester, are easier to clean and maintain, though fabrics like wool are naturally moisture-wicking and can last for multiple wears before requiring a wash. Ultimately, the climate and activities should dictate the type of clothing you pack. For example, a travel suit is a good choice for work conferences or weddings while a Hawaiian shirt and shorts work great for a tropical vacation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Comfort should take precedence, especially during long-haul trips where mobility is limited. You’ll want to wear an outfit with layers to accommodate sudden shifts in temperature. You’ll still want to look relatively put-together, so think: a pair of tapered joggers or jeans with a neutral-colored T-shirt and a lightweight jacket.

There are plenty of tips and tricks for conserving precious luggage space. When it comes to folding, the rolling technique has yielded successful results, though you can, of course, invest in packing cubes (choose some with compression) to stay more organized. Consider a mini steamer, as well, to flatten any wrinkles upon arrival at your destination. And don’t underestimate a good garment bag , which will also protect your more expensive clothes from damage like exploding toiletry bottles.

Bonobos Jetsetter Unconstructed Italian Wool Blazer

Jetsetter Unconstructed Italian Wool Blazer

You don't need to go full athletic fabric to make a suit optimal for travel. In fact, sticking to mostly wool will retain the shape of the suit longer and provide a more refined look. Bonobos built its blazer entirely out of wool while keeping the fit unstructured and the interior unlined, meaning it’ll provide an easy feeling for traveling and committing. Bonobos offers three different cut options to nail down your most comfortable fit. An extra large interior pocket to stash your passport, wallet, or anything else is a nice little bonus.

Relwen Flyweight Flex Blazer

Flyweight Flex Blazer

Functionality is key to a great travel blazer , and Relwen has it in spades. The three exterior patch pockets are similar to any casual blazer, but the large interior pocket has a zip closure with a vertical opening for easy access. It is ideal for stashing valuables. The fabric's stretch also makes the blazer travel- and commute-friendly.

On top of that, a discrete snap closure pocket is tucked into the back along the right-hand vent. A four-button design plus a throat latch allows you to button all the way up to your neck like a true jacket, while functional buttons on the sleeves allow you to roll them up. That means this blazer covers a very wide range of temperatures.

What impressed us most was the look. At face value, this is just a great-looking cotton blazer, appropriate for work or semi-formal events. All that function is cleverly tucked away in a stylish package.

J.Crew Ludlow Slim-fit Blazer in English Cotton-wool Blend

Ludlow Slim-fit Blazer in English Cotton-wool Blend

When J.Crew launched the Ludlow suit a little over a decade ago, it set a new standard for formalwear. Men were already starting to dress up again, and the store brand provided an approachable entree with great tailoring. We've come a long way since then, but the Ludlow remains a steadfast example of how suiting-up should fit and feel. What was once the game-changing suit is now a reliable classic. This slim-fit blazer, for instance, looks good with any classic, elevated style, and will pay off in the long run without costing an arm or a leg.

Everlane The Performance Chino Blazer

The Performance Chino Blazer

Yet the blazer does not disappoint when it comes to dressing up for the red carpet thanks to its sophisticated tailoring and pique fabric.

Charles Tyrwhitt Herringbone Wool Texture Jacket

Herringbone is that two-tone zig-zag pattern you see everywhere from suits to furniture. A herringbone blazer is as essential to a well-rounded wardrobe as a reliable pair of jeans. Many brands do it well but it is hard to top this classic, Merino wool version from Todd Snyder. It looks great with both office wear and casual combos such as tees and chinos. The shoulder areas fit more relaxed, while details from the collar to the lapel keep it formal.

Hawes & Curtis Slim Double Breasted Blazer

Vineyard Vines Lightweight On-The-Go Blazer

Lightweight On-The-Go Blazer

Lightweight, moisture-wicking, with four-way stretch, this blazer is designed as a wedding suit jacket, but also plenty of usage as a travel blazer thanks to its breathable performance fabric. We especially love the built-in stretch plus minimal lining which combine to let you dance the night away or commute in style.

Ted Baker Wool and Linen Blazer

Wool and Linen Blazer

Wool-linen is another blessing for all-season style: wool guarantees elegance, comfort, and function, while linen provides lightness and crispness. Mixed with Ted Baker’s classic navy (and a few other neutral hues), this suit is a top-notch choice to avoid sweating all day at the office. Our testing editor also loves that it truly offers the best of both worlds—the coolness of linen and the comfort of wool. Although we found the fit is less tailored, it still looks sharp.

Tommy Hilfiger Modern-Fit Pattern Sport Coats

Modern-Fit Pattern Sport Coats

The modern fit and plus make the blazer as everyday-friendly as it is office-ready, meaning you can style it however you like and wear it as simply a jacket if you wish. The checkered pattern puts an elevated twist on the overall look, meaning you’ll always stay looking shape in this blazer.

Calling It: These 6 Blazer Trends Will Be Everywhere in Autumn 2024

blazer-trends-winter-310876-1702046548627-main

If there's one piece that will instantly upgrade an outfit, it's the blazer . Traditionally worn as an office staple, the versatile blazer works with nearly any outfit . Nowadays, fashion people can agree the blazer doesn't only belong in your work wardrobe. Whether it's layered over a simple jeans and jumper look, or worn over a sleek slip dress for an evening event. You can be sure that every influencer you love owns multiple versions to serve different styling purposes, from The Frankie Shop's viral relaxed blazer to Versace's ultra-chic, slim-fitting silhouettes.

blazer-trends-winter-310876-1701349884476-main

Being the organised, ahead-of-the-curve bunch we are, the Who What Wear team have already started gathering intel about which styles really matter in autumn 2024. And when it comes to blazers, there are six key styles that stand out, most of which have trickled down from recent runway shows . Alexander McQueen, Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney and Saint Laurent all embraced the power blazer in their autumn/winter shows, showing how different shapes could deliver a multitude of looks, proving that blazers are here to make a statement. Relaxed blazers doubled as dresses with super tall boots leaving just a flash of skin, while classic styles including double-breasted blazers were incorporated into head-to-toe tailored outfits with a contemporary twist.

Thankfully, you don't have to have a designer budget to embrace the top blazer trends for 2024 (although there are some truly gorgeous options that are well worth investing in if you do). From H&M to Mango, our high-street favourites have cleverly picked up on all of the best looks. Scroll on to discover our pick of the top finds.

Shop the Blazer Trends That Will Dominate in Autumn 2024:

1. relaxed fit.

blazer-trends-winter-310876-1701274203616-main

Style Notes: The more slouchy, the better seems to be the blazer motto next year. Inspired by the understatedly cool Scandinavian aesthetic, these roomy, relaxed silhouettes can be paired with wide trousers for a playful take on contemporary tailoring. Alternatively, embrace the "pant-less" trend by styling it with a mini dress and strappy heels for a slinky evening look.

Shop the Look:

2. COLOUR-FORWARD

blazer-trends-winter-310876-1701275331354-main

Style Notes: It can be tempting to rely on a trusty black blazer time and time again, but for autumn 2024, why not rely on your blazer for a dopamine hit? From electric hues to pastel shades, designers and street style stars alike are making the case for embracing colours that are sure to put a smile on your face. Co-ordinate your blazer with matching trousers or skirts, or let it pop against an understated black or white ensemble.

Style Notes: A leather blazer is a sleek alternative to the biker jacket. Go for a classic black, or—like Dawn—get inspired to embrace seasonal hues like burgundy and brown.

Style Notes: In stark contrast to the relaxed silhouette is the hourglass, a 1950s era shape that has been revived thanks to designers like Chloé and Gabriella Hearst. Supremely elegant, this style can be used for elevated evening wear or to bring a refined touch to a simple jeans outfit.

Daphne Scoop Long Waisted Blazer

5. DOUBLED UP

blazer-trends-winter-310876-1701283059845-main

When it comes to waterproof jackets, there’s a multitude of decisions to make. Something to fend off the elements while walking the dogs or hiking is an entirely different beast from something that will keep you dry during your morning commute into the office.

As well as factoring in style and colour, warmth is also worth considering. Are you likely to be wearing the waterproof during winter months for long periods of time or is it a spring and summer transitional jacket you’ll be wearing to the pub in the evening in case it rains during the walk home?

When April showers continue into May and beyond, a good waterproof becomes an essential. You don’t want to end up drenched at the office or dinner.

While running waterproof jackets are all about the lightweight and taped seams, there’s length, cuff, hood style, fastening type and colour to think about when looking for an everyday rain jacket or one for outdoor adventures.

Fortunately, we’ve done the hard work for you and selected the best waterproof jackets on the market, to help make your search quicker and easier. They also happen to look great.

How we tested

A few of the jackets we put to the test

All jackets were worn over three test periods: on a short walk in lighter drizzle, on a longer walk in heavier rain, and in a commuting scenario where time was spent on public transport, with the jackets worn on either side of the journey. The jackets were tested for comfort, style, ease of fastening, design and how well they coped with rain run-off.

The best women’s waterproof jackets for 2024 are:

Mountain Warehouse rainforest II extreme women's waterproof jacket

best womens waterproof jacket mountain warehouse

  • Best : Women’s waterproof jacket overall
  • Sizes : UK 6 to 22
  • Colourways : Burgundy, grey, jet black and navy
  • Great in heavy rain
  • Could do with a back pocket

This jacket fared brilliantly in heavy rain during testing. The taped seams meant not a drop of water got in, with the adjustable hood and cuffs helping us stay dry.

The mesh lining made the jacket feel breathable and allowed for a warm layer underneath. It’s also a great length. The water ran off this jacket brilliantly, while the zipped pockets kept our belongings safe and dry, too.

Mountain Warehouse swerve women's packaway waterproof jacket

best womens waterproof jacket mountain warehouse

  • Best : Budget women’s waterproof jacket
  • Colourways : Charcoal, dusky purple and teal
  • Limited colour choices

This is one of the most versatile jackets on our list, while also being one of the most budget-friendly options. The ripstop fabric and taped seams make it functional, while the slim fit makes it a stylish choice, too. It also packs away into its own carry case, so it’s a great option to take with you when you’re out and about, in case you get caught in the rain. We also loved the contrast zipper.

Terrex skyclimb gore soft shell jacket

best waterproof jacket terrex

  • Best : Women’s waterproof jacket for dog walks
  • Sizes : UK 8 to 16
  • Colourways : Multi
  • Stylish colour scheme
  • Easy to wash

When it comes to waterproofing on the go, this jacket is a great choice. Its stylish colour scheme and slim fit are flattering, while the hood does the job of keeping you dry even in a headwind. It’s windproof, too, and the elastic hem and cuffs mean the rain can’t get where you don’t want it to.

Even better, it’s machine washable, so, bring on those muddy paws. This is a great option if you need a functional waterproof that won’t break the bank.

Columbia Wyldwood waterproof jacket

best waterproof jacket columbia

  • Best : Women’s waterproof jacket for hiking
  • Sizes : XS to XXL
  • Colourways : Dark stone, juicy (coral red) and black
  • External taped seams
  • Could be longer in the body

If you’re after a utility jacket that not only looks amazing but functions fantastically (even in lashing rain), look no further. While taped seams have long been needed in the waterproof jacket world, the smart folks at Columbia have opted for external tape as a style feature, and it looks great.

The peripheral hood adjustment, water-diverting brim, drop tail, adjustable hem and cuffs all keep the rain at bay while you’re out and about. While this jacket kept us dry for hours in thundering rain, it also folded up neatly into a hand pocket when the clouds parted and the sun came out.

Arc’teryx beta lightweight jacket

best womens waterproof jacket arcteryx

  • Best : For wet weather enthusiasts
  • Sizes : XXS to XXL
  • Colourways : Navy blue, black, lilac and hot pink
  • Great environmentally friendly credentials
  • Very expensive

While every jacket on this list is waterproof, Arc’teryx has invested a lot of technology into the beta. It’s lightweight, waterproof, windproof, breathable, fair trade certified and reflective. If you want a jacket that’s all things for all women, this is a great option. What’s more, the Gore-Tex is an environmentally friendly ePE fabric that offers a reduced carbon footprint.

Fjällräven keb eco-shell jacket

best womens waterproof jacket Fjällräven

  • Best : For adventure sports
  • Colourways : Brown, black, navy and dark green
  • Created with adventure in mind
  • Muted colours only

Breathable, lightweight, durable, waterproof, windproof and with great ventilation, this jacket is the perfect option for adventurers. The pockets are designed in such a way you can access them while you’re wearing a climbing harness or a backpack with a waist belt, and the hood has been designed so there’s enough space under it for a helmet.

The jacket is made from recycled materials, and all emissions during production and transport are climate-compensated. It’s also been designed so it can be easily recycled at the end of its life. The two-way zipper means you can open it from either end to cool down and ventilate, too. If you want to stay dry while being active, this is the perfect option.

Waterproof jacket FAQs

The verdict: women’s waterproof jackets.

While needs for a waterproof jacket will vary based on where you live and what activities you do, we found the Mountain Warehouse Rainforest II Extreme to be a great all-rounder. It’s at home in an urban environment but also coped well during a walk through wet woods. The higher price points of many waterproof jackets can be attributed to the technology needed to make them waterproof and breathable, but at just £79.99, this one is a bargain.

W.H.O. Declares Global Emergency Over New Mpox Outbreak

The epidemic is concentrated in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but the virus has now appeared in a dozen other African countries.

The rapid spread of mpox, formerly called monkeypox, in African countries constitutes a global health emergency, the World Health Organization declared on Wednesday.

This is the second time in three years that the W.H.O. has designated an mpox epidemic as a global emergency. It previously did so in July 2022. That outbreak went on to affect nearly 100,000 people , primarily gay and bisexual men, in 116 countries, and killed about 200 people.

The threat this time is deadlier. Since the beginning of this year, the Democratic Republic of Congo alone has reported 15,600 mpox cases and 537 deaths. Those most at risk include women and children under 15.

“The detection and rapid spread of a new clade of mpox in eastern D.R.C., its detection in neighboring countries that had not previously reported mpox, and the potential for further spread within Africa and beyond is very worrying,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the W.H.O.’s director general.

The outbreak has spread through 13 countries in Africa, including a few that had never reported mpox cases before. On Tuesday, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared a “public health emergency of continental security,” the first time the organization has taken that step since the African Union granted it the power to do so last year.

“It’s in the interests of the countries, of the continent and of the world to get our arms around this and stop transmission as soon as we can,” said Dr. Nicole Lurie, the executive director for preparedness and response at the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, a nonprofit that finances vaccine development.

Facing the threat of global spread, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has urged clinicians and the public in the United States to be alert for the virus.

The W.H.O.’s designation of a “public health emergency of international concern” is intended to prompt member countries to begin preparing for the virus’s appearance and to share vaccines, treatments and other key resources with poorer nations.

“We need concerted international action to stem this recent, novel outbreak,” said Gregg Gonsalves, an epidemiologist at Yale University who served on the W.H.O.’s mpox committee in 2022.

The outbreak that year stayed mostly within tight sexual networks, among gay and bisexual men. A combination of behavioral changes and vaccination tamped down the spread.

In the United States, for example, the toll dropped to about 1,700 cases last year from more than 30,000 in 2022.

The version of mpox that has been circulating in Congo has always been more virulent, and currently has a death rate of about 3 percent, compared with 0.2 percent in the 2022 outbreak. The infection can produce fever, respiratory symptoms, muscle aches and swollen lymph nodes, as well as a rash on the hands, feet, chest, mouth or genitals.

Until recently, it spread mainly through consumption of contaminated meat or close contact with infected animals and people. Most of the deaths have been in children, who in this region of Africa are already beset by malnutrition and infectious diseases like cholera, measles and polio.

Should the outbreak spread globally, children in developed countries are likely to be less vulnerable to severe illness, experts have said.

Last year, for the first time, scientists discovered sexual transmission of this version of mpox, with cases split about equally among young men and women. According to genetic analyses , sometime around September, the virus gained mutations that enabled it to spread more readily among people. It has done so partly through heterosexual prostitution .

This viral type has not surfaced outside Africa. Over all, there have been more than 17,500 presumed and confirmed mpox cases in 13 countries, according to Africa C.D.C . Most of the cases and deaths have occurred in Congo.

Given the rapid spread, the declaration of a global health emergency was justified, said Anne Rimoin, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles, who served on the 2022 mpox panel.

“I think we learned a great deal about the speed with which this virus can spread,” she said.

Amid rising numbers, Congo has approved two mpox vaccines , a Japanese product called LC16 and Jynneos, the vaccine made by Bavarian Nordic that was used in 2022 in the United States and Europe. But Congo has yet to institute an immunization plan.

On Aug. 9, the W.H.O. invited vaccine manufacturers to apply for an emergency use listing , a prerequisite for international groups such as Gavi, a global vaccine alliance, to purchase and distribute the shots in low-income nations.

Bavarian Nordic has donated 15,000 doses of Jynneos to be distributed in African countries. But that is a tiny fraction of the 10 million doses needed to control the outbreak, according to Africa C.D.C.

“The challenge is that these vaccines are not sufficient,” even if countries try to protect only the people at highest risk, said Dr. Dimie Ogoina, a Nigerian scientist and chair of the W.H.O.’s mpox emergency committee.

LC16 was used in Japanese children in the 1970s. Clinical trials funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations are now evaluating whether Jynneos can protect children and people who have already been exposed to the virus , Dr. Lurie said.

The organization is also supporting the development of a new mRNA vaccine made by BioNTech that would protect against mpox and related viruses, such as smallpox.

“This outbreak has been smoldering for quite a long time, and we continually have missed opportunities to shut it down,” Dr. Lurie said. “I’m really glad that everybody is now paying attention and focusing their efforts on this.”
