New Trek Session Downhill Bike - The Details and Prices 6
Alloy only, high-pivot and adjustability for modern downhill riders..
Trek has finally made their new, high-pivot Session downhill bike with 200mm of rear travel public. After sneaking in a win under Charlie Harrison at the Windrock #USDH national a few weeks ago and being completely leaked all over the internet, the official details of the bike are here. Trek is sure to make us remember their Diesel DH bike from 2003 and their Session 10 from 2006 also had a high-pivot, so they’re not jumping on the bandwagon.
The new 2021 high-pivot Trek Session is alloy-frame-only, no carbon, and comes in 3 different reach-based sizes R1, R2, R3. Respectively, reach measurements are 440mm, 465mm and 493mm. The chainstay length varies across the sizes while using the same rear end. Trek just tweaks the location of the bottom bracket on the front triangles to get 439, 445 and 452mm chainstay lengths on the different sizes.
Trek’s Mino link is present for subtle geometry tweaks like going from a 63 to 63.6-degree head angle and to raise or lower the BB, but there is also a suspension progression Mino Link which provides either 20% or 25% progressivity, so you can have more pump or more plow. Cable routing is also up to the owner and can be internal or external.
The new Session is built around, and comes stock with, dual 29-inch wheels, but can be run as a mullet with 27.5-inch rear wheel or it can go dual 27.5-inch wheels while still using the 29-inch-wheeled fork. There’s just a tall lower headset cup used, so all of your frankenbiking for the Vital MTB bike check section only requires the swap of a wheel or two. Frame-only options come with the special EXT headset cup for a 27.5-inch front wheel but the complete bikes do not. The EXT cup can be purchased separately, however.
2021 Trek Session frame price is $2,999, the Session 8 with BoXXer Select and FOX VAN Performance shock is $4,999 while the Session 9 is $6,999 featuring a BoXXer Ultimate and Super Deluxe Ultimate DH shock.

We’re stoked to see Reece, Charlie, Loris and Vali on these bikes at the races and we have one on the way for testing, so stay tuned.
2022 Session FAQ
Do all frame sizes use the same wheel size?
All three frame sizes are built around 29-inch wheels, but all are compatible with 27.5 and mixed 29/27.5 configurations.
Is it compatible with other wheel/tire sizes?
Yes! All Session models come stock with 29-inch wheels, but can run 27.5" wheels with the Mino Link set to the high geometry position and with the Session-specific extended headset cup. The alternate headset cup is included with framesets, but sold separately for complete bikes.
Riders can also run a mixed 29 front/27.5 rear setup with the Mino Link set to the high geometry position.
What is the maximum tire size?
For both 29" and 27.5" wheels, the max tire width is 2.6"
Have there been any geometry changes?
The reach has increased around 30mm per size. For example, a LG used to be 435mm, but now the comparable R2 size is 465mm reach. Each size also has a unique chainstay length for more balanced weight distribution.
Does size-specific chainstay length mean there are unique stays for each size?
No. Chainstay length is actually measured from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the rear axle. We adjusted the position of the bottom bracket on the main frame for each size so that each size still uses the same rear end.
In which Mino Link position does the bike ship?
Mino Link geometry - high position. Mino Link suspension - 25% (more progressive).
Does it have ISCG mounts?
Yes. Session features a 2-bolt ISCG 05 mount.
What is the rear brake mount? What is the max rotor size?
180mm Post mount. Adaptable to 220mm Max.
Is it compatible with any aftermarket shocks? Which ones fit?
Aftermarket shocks, including coils, from Fox, RockShox, and DVO will fit. Shocks from other brands will most likely fit, but we advise checking frame clearance at full compression.
Is it internal or external cable routing?
You have the option to run internal cable routing to keep everything protected and tidy or run it external for easy service. On the underside of the top tube is an external hose clamp that allows for external cable routing. It can easily be removed if you choose internal cable routing. The bike ships with internal cable routing.
What is the maximum chainring size? Minimum chainring size?
Max 38. Min 32.
What type of bottom bracket does it use?
83mm BSA threaded
What chainline is it designed for?
It's designed for a 56.5 CL, however it is compatible with chainlines between 55.5mm and 58.5mm.

Trek unveils new Session DH bike with high-pivot suspension design
New Trek Session features adjustable suspension progression and is compatible with multiple wheel size configurations
Trek has unveiled its new Session downhill bike, one of the most recognizable downhill bikes in the sport that's been ridden by the best downhill and freeride athletes over the years.
The design of the bike keeps the classic Session look seen on previous iterations, so riders can keep using the "looks like a Trek Session" meme. However, the bike now uses a high-pivot suspension design, something that isn't typically seen as often from mainstream brands like Trek.
The high-pivot suspension design creates a rearward axle path. On a more traditional suspension design, the rear axle and wheel move forward, against the forces of trail impacts. With a rearward axle path, the bike isn't fighting against trail forces and is therefore thought to be faster. This leads to "smoother suspension that maintains more forward momentum and provides more grip," according to Trek.
- Best downhill mountain bikes
- Best full-face mountain bike helmets
High-pivot designs also use an idler pulley to eliminate unwanted chain tension that's created by the cogs on the bike's cassette moving away from the chainring, which creates chain growth.
Another new feature on the bike is a 'Mino Link' that allows riders to adjust the suspension progression. A firmer 25 percent progression is ideal for racers, while the plusher 20 percent progression setting is meant for everyday bike park laps.
Bikes will come stock as a 29er, but the frame is also compatible with 27.5-inch wheels, and riders can go with a mullet setup too.
Sizing is based on reach, and the bigger the size, the longer the chainstay. Riders looking for more high-speed stability can ride a bigger size frame, while freeriders seeking maneuverability might ride a smaller size.
The frames are made from Alpha Platinum Aluminum and come with frame protectors to guard against rock strikes and other damage. Plus, cables can be routed internally or externally.
Two complete bikes are being sold, the Session 8 and Session 9, as well as a frameset option. The Session 8 build uses a Fox rear shock, RockShox Boxxer fork, SRAM GX DH drivetrain, and SRAM Centerline brakes, and retails for $4,999.99. The Session 9 features RockShox suspension, a SRAM XO1 DH drivetrain, Centerline brakes, and retails for $6,999.99. The frameset retails for $2,999.99.
Is the new design actually faster? That's what Trek's engineers and marketing staff will claim, but we can see for ourselves how Trek Factory Racing's downhill athletes perform on the World Cup circuit this year.
Ryan Simonovich has been riding and racing for nearly a decade. He got his start as a cross-country mountain bike racer in California, where he cultivated his love for riding all types of bikes. Ryan eventually gravitated toward enduro and downhill racing but has also been found in the occasional road and cyclo-cross events. Today, he regularly rides the trails of Durango, Colorado, and is aiming to make a career out of chronicling the sport of cycling.

V10 Frame Specifications
All units are in millimeters or degrees.
Frame Sizing
If you're on the cusp between the recommended height range of two sizes, the absolute best thing is to try to ride them both. At a minimum, check the stack/reach measurements on your current bike and compare it to the new model you are looking at to get an idea of a fit you are already comfortable with. If riding the bike is not an option, consider the following.
The V10 MX is available in sizes small, medium, and large (S-L)
The V10 29" is available in size extra large (XL)
Personal Preference
Body dimension.
Suspension Setup
Take a look at detailed sag, high/low rebound, and high/low compression recommendations for shocks and forks in each build.
What is included with the bike?
Can i change my frame from mx to 29 or vice versa, how does the reach-adjust headset work, what chainguide is compatible with the v10.8, what rear spacing does the v10 use, what cranks do i need, is there a recommended fork offset, what are the shock dimensions, i want to try an air shock on my v10 - does that work, i see the v10.8 has a lot of geometry adjustment. is there a recommended starting setup, where can i find the manual for this bike, exploded diagrams, headset, downtube protector, shuttle guard, seat collar, and rear fender, upper and lower linkage hardware, rear triangle hardware, brake mount, and rear axle, if you're looking for more information about your bike check our the santa cruz bicycles owner's manual..

History of Omsk Oblast
Ancient people began to settle in the area of the middle reaches of the Irtysh River about 45,000 years ago. This region became the place of numerous migrations of different peoples, of interpenetration of forest and steppe cultures. In the Middle Ages, the territory of the present Omsk region was part of the Western Turkic Khanate and the Siberian Khanate. As a result, an ethnic group of the Siberian Tatars was formed. This region was also inhabited by Kazakhs and other peoples.
The history of the development of the Irtysh by Russians is connected first of all with the legendary Yermak. Although even before him, in the 15th century, Russian merchants from the Urals visited the Siberian Khanate.
In the early 18th century, major reforms carried out by Peter the Great required large expenses. The first Russian emperor turned his attention to the east. He sent a detachment of Cossacks under the command of the lieutenant-colonel I.D.Bukhgolts from the town of Tobolsk up the Irtysh River in search of gold deposits.
More Historical Facts…
The expedition failed because of resistance from the nomads Dzhungars. Russians were forced to take a step back. In 1716, they founded a fortress at the mouth of the Om River - future Omsk. Russian peasants began to settle in the land around the fortress. To the south of Omsk, a line of outposts was constructed for protection from the nomads.
In 1782, the fortress became a town. Omsk district was formed on the basis of the southern part of Tarsky district and, in 1785, the town of Omsk was given a coat of arms. Omsk became an important center for the study of Siberia and Central Asia. This region like other parts of Siberia was used as a place for political exile.
In the 19th century, the people exiled to Siberia were the Decembrists, Petrashevts, Narodniki, representatives of other revolutionary parties and organizations, participants of the Polish national movement. These people had a major cultural impact on the local population. The great Russian writer F.M.Dostoyevsky was one of the prisoners of the Omsk jail.
In the late 19th and early 20th century, Siberia experienced significant changes. Large-scale migration of peasants led to the rapid growth of the local economy, especially agriculture. Due to its favorable economic and geographical location, at the intersection of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Irtysh River, Omsk rapidly turned into a large transport, trade and industrial center of Western Siberia, the largest city in Siberia.
During the Second World War, about 100 industrial plants were evacuated from the European part of the USSR to Omsk. They became the basis of the local engineering industry. In 1949, the first refinery in Siberia was constructed in Omsk. In 1954-1956, during development of virgin lands, several large agricultural enterprises were built in the southern part of Omsk Oblast. In the 1970s, Omsk oblast became one of the most economically developed regions of Siberia.
