Trek Verve+ 2 Lowstep E-Bike Review

Felipe T

We know the company is well known for building quality and sometimes good-looking bikes.

With the slight success of the Trek Verve+ e-bike in 2019, the brand decided to improve some of its components, such as motor efficiency, battery performance, and ride comfort.

Table of Contents

How Riding the Verve+2 Feels Like?

– One of the outstanding things I noticed with this e-bike improvement was how smooth and balanced the whole frame felt. Part of that is the addition of the seat-post suspension .

– On the motor side, if you get annoyed with noisy motors, no matter what assistance I was riding in, I don’t think this was the case.

The latest Bosch motors have many sensors (speed, torque, and cadence) included, so to deliver what the rider needs.

Having said that, if you want to get the best out of the Bosch technology, you are better off putting in more active pedaling than just cruising with not much use of your legs.

A couple more things:

– The bike now has a chain plastic guard , which is fantastic for commuting to prevent work pants or shoes from being stained.

– No front suspension . This could be an important factor if you are looking for more comfort, but it also adds to the overall weight.

Verve+ 2 Specs

Pedal assisted system (pas) feature.

This electric bicycle is classified as a pedelec, with a power assist cut-off limit of 20 mph (32 km/h ). On the other hand, depending on how much assistance you need, you can get four (4) levels: eco, tour, sport, and turbo .

What does it mean in terms of power?

Well, I found that the Eco mode will provide 40% power, the Tour mode will be 60%, the Sport level will be 80%, and last but not least, the Turbo mode will be 100%.

Bosch Purion display feature

– I think the display is a straightforward controller that shows all the basic features, including speed, traveled distance, battery range , and assistance level.

Bosch Purion ebike controller

– Although the controller is easily accessible for on-riding operation, I think it is better to set what you need beforehand as I found the display a bit hard to read on a sunny day.

– I like the controller shows battery range, as this is always an important readout, especially when touring.

Other things about its pedelec configuration

– I’m unsure why the brand did not include a walking mode feature. I believe this feature is a miss as there could be moments where walking is easier than riding.

– Although some users believe the display is terrible because of its small size, it still does much better than what more expensive brands offer, like the  iWOC TRIO by Mahle.

Mid-Drive Bosch Motor

– Compared to the 2018 Verve model, this mid-drive motor is basically the same. Nevertheless, there seems to be more sensor sensitivity, which gives more accurate power based on your pedal cadence.

Read More: Electric Motor Bike Guide – What to Know About It .

– The watts and torque may not be impressive to me, but I think they are good enough for commuting in any city setting.

– Another thing I like about this motor is its small size, which is ideal for bikes that may be generally heavy.

Lastly, if you are more inclined to pedal on low gears, be mindful that the RPM has been limited to only 100, meaning that the motor won’t give power passing this point.

Any Battery Changes?

– The brand hasn’t changed much on the 400W lithium battery side either, as this new model has a standard one.

Read More: eBike Batteries – The Beginner’s Guide .

– One thing that I appreciate about the brand is its weight, which is about 2.45 kg (5.4 lbs) . Therefore, it would be easy to carry anywhere.

Read More: eBike Anti-Theft Guide: Best Ways to Secure an Electric Bike

– One thing that I noticed is how hot it gets if charging on a hot day. I’m unsure if this is normal for 36v batteries , but it is better to pull it out of the frame and charge it in a cool room (if you can).

What can you get for range?

As mentioned before, you have four-pedal assistance levels. Depending on the selection, you will roughly get:

– Eco: ~ 90 miles.

– Tour: ~70 miles.

– Sport: ~55 miles.

– Turbo: approx. 35 miles.

These range estimates are not 100% accurate because other factors, such as route topography and cadence, will affect them.

Also, the ranges are estimated, assuming the motor always assists you.

Other points to know about it

– This e-bike also comes with a standard charger of 2 amps, which means the battery will be charged in about 5 hours .

– The front and rear lights and the controller are other elements the battery powers. There is no need to be worried here, as the power drawn by these elements is minimal.

The Non-powered Elements

Braking performance.

– Like the previous model, this one also has Shimano hydraulic brakes. The 160 mm rotors were designed to perform well with the dual-piston Calipers.

– One thing I like here is the three (3) level adjustable finger , so people with small hands like me can easily reach the brake lever.

– Not many electric bicycles come with a dual-piston system, so rest assured you will have great braking performance in any weather.

Seat and lights

– This model has undergone many changes, which are more noticeable in the seat design, the light position, and the fenders.

Front light on frame model 2022

– The saddle has a 30mm travel spring suspension , which is great for long-distance rides. I like that it is kept wide and has a small ventilation point for comfort.

– After many riders’ feedback, one of the biggest changes was the front and rear light position.

– The front light is now attached to the fork rather than the actual frame. For many, this was a downside when steering, as no light brightened the way.

– The rear one is attached to the rear rack rather than the fender. This doesn’t look like a big change, I think.

Tires and gearing system

Not much was changed with the tires this time. They kept the same Bontrager brand to provide the quality required on any hard terrain.

One thing to notice is the quality of the tires’ carving.

I believe it is smoother in the center, so there is less friction when riding. Also, the side pads are bigger to keep a good grip when taking corners

Read More: Electric Bike Tires Buying Guide .

As for the gear system, it is the same Shimano quality that many other brands use.

On this occasion, 9 gears are available to reach the top speed without pedaling too much.

I’m pleased to see the addition of the plastic guard to cover the chain. This is great for avoiding your long pants being wrapped by the chain and for keeping them from getting greasy.

This was very thoughtful, considering it was designed for commuting.

Structure design

There are two (2) frames available, where one is a high-step, and the other one is a step-thru

High step frame

If you are more inclined to the low-step design, I see that there was no allowance for a bottle holder to be installed. This is definitely a downside .

No suspension?

Many riders believe that not having a front suspension will result in an uncomfortable ride. This could be true, depending on where you ride it.

I know the Verve 2 Plus doesn’t come with a suspension system, aside from the saddle, of course, but looking at the bigger picture, not many dedicated commuter electric bikes have suspension.

Just think that the overall weight will increase when adding more fancy elements.

If you want added comfort, I suggest getting a hybrid electric bicycle, such as the Giant Roam E+ .

Available sizes

Last but not least, knowing what sizes are available is good. From the old days model, these numbers haven’t changed:

Even if your height is good for one of their frames, I strongly suggest having a test ride and making sure you can comfortably touch the ground.

Should you Consider this Trek Commuter eBike?

It is clear that other bike companies are launching good quality commuter models for an affordable price.

When comparing the two models, 2018 and 2022, I saw few changes . To be honest, the modifications were more aesthetic than mechanical.

Some of the modifications included a set of plastic fenders, a plastic guard chain (which is awesome for keeping your long pants from getting dirty), and a more versatile light system.

The one thing I definitely like is the improved responsiveness of the sensors when pedaling. This translates into a more efficient motor and an improved range for the battery.

Overall, I believe the Trek Verve+ 2 model is worth test-riding.

My battery is stuck won't disconnect!

I think my battery might have gone dead was riding today and I have been riding this bike for 1.5 yrs I have never ran out of battery even in R mode I get too tired by 3-4 bars and have to go back home. Well after not even 10 miles today my battery meter starts flashing and the voltage numbers are jumping all over the place. I left with full power. I lost all motor power and had to walk my bike home. I just put it on the charger but it seems so far after an hour or two the battery doesn't seem to be charging but I will confirm in the morning. So I thought let me take the battery out and disconnect it from the bike and put it back. I'm using my key and no matter how much I turn in either direction the battery will not budge. It's been a while since I have taken it off probably a year or so. I always charge the battery on the bike. A couple times I have taken it off if I went somewhere far and was going to spend some time there so I brought it inside. So I have taken it off before. It just won't come off anymore. What should I do? It seems like it could be the locking mechanism not working properly? Should I call a locksmith? I don't know what to do. If my battery is dead and I need to order a new one how am I going to get this one off? Maybe a locksmith can bypass the locking mechanism to release it? It has to be the only way otherwise too much force might brake the actual charging ports or battery holder etc I even tried putting a screwdriver under the edge but it's not budging and I don't want to keep trying that.

Try pushing the battery in as hard as you can, the same direction you would push to lock it, and see if that lets you turn the key to unlock the battery.

Sounds like you had a loose connection and the battery may have welded itself to the base at the connection point. I think your only hope is to apply force forward and back until it breaks loose. You'll probably have to replace the connection point.

Have someone hold the key in the unlocked position and with your two hands, try pushing and pulling the battery to release it or pushing the battery up and down. All the while someone is holding the key open. This may work.

330rcs said: OK I hope juiced sells it. I will have to wait for their support to reply. I wonder if thats the reason my battery is dead or acting all crazy with voltage jumping around and battery meter flashing, because it welded itself and one of the connections is messed up now. It seems like it did weld itself. I suppose it's the Colorado sun I have had a pressure washer attachment weld itself together in the sun out here in one afternoon and I was never able to get it off. Anyway since it looks like there's no other option here I will prob wait for juiced to reply for the next step but I suppose I'll have to start getting aggressive with it. No other choice but to break it off it seems. Can anybody tell me which direction you turn the key, clockwise or counter clockwise to unlock the battery? Mine turns both ways will it unlock either way? I forgot but, I don't want to keep trying it if one way is wrong that way I'm not wasting time/energy. Ever since I got this bike 1.5 yrs ago it's been one thing after another, fix one thing now it's something else. My bike was just in the shop for almost a month getting its front brake replaced and cassette and now not even a week later this happens. but I can't just let it go it's too much fun. It looks like I'm going to have to buy a new bike though and still keep this one and get it going again. Will be good to have two so whenever one is down I can have a backup. Click to expand...

I got it off!! I used a screwdriver and jiggling it under the edge of the battery. But look at the connection port. Also look at the side. Are you sure the sun didn't have anything to do with it? The black casing is coming off from the side that sits in the frame. Or is that just from movement or something? Anyway I connected the battery back to the bike and turned it on and the battery meter is at full bars I had it on the charger for couple hours last night but not all night. I hit the "walk" mode and the power assist came on but I immediately let it go and turned it off and took the battery off the bike and put it on the charger separately. Is the connection port on the battery fixable? It's too dangerous to use the battery like this isn't it?

That is definitely a loose connection. I would not recommend operating the bike until you get both ends of the connection replaced. If you were stuck on a desert island I would say you could very gently file off the melted plastic and use fine sandpaper/small file and contact cleaner to clean up the electrical connections... but at best it will only be a temporary fix. You also run the risk of damaging your electronics with the voltage spikes... and then there's always the risk of fire.

.... I'll add if you are somewhat handy with electrical, you have enough room to work and a little bit of slack on the connector wires you may be able to replace the connection with something all together different like an xt60. This may make it tricky to slide the battery back into the mount... but since the connection will now be floating it should eliminate the problem of vibration and maybe not the best connectors.

Best practice is to change both as the high temperature damaged both... if you only replace one side it will cause premature failure again. It depends on the connector manufacturer as to whether or not wire leads are attached or not on the connector. If they are you may be able to butt splice if you have room to tuck the wires away. If not, you'll need to solder. The best way to know your options is to dismantle both connectors and see what you have to work with. That said, I would leave that to a professional. You are working with a lot of potential on the battery side.

I'm going to go out and ride it and see what it does. Maybe for this damn thing to catch on fire will be the best thing for it to end this nightmare of a bike. Don't think I'm ever buying another Juiced bike. It was fun while it lasted but never again.

If you do do that... Try and clean up the connections. Be very careful with the battery side... again a lot of potential if you short it. If there's a switch on the battery... Make sure it is off. If you are friendly with an auto mechanic they might be willing to do it for you as they do similar types of repairs. I'm not familiar with your bike/battery but it is a common problem and shouldn't be to hard of a fix for someone with basic electrical skills.

Appreciate all the feedback here. I will go through and read up on the past issues. I took it out and the battery meter is going all over the place but I only went to grab some food and stop by a store real quick. It would get jerky sometimes probably due to power the meter goes down, sometimes to zero starts flashing and back up again. I might lose power for a second and then starts back up. Strange how I never lose power on the display itself just the motor. - I cleaned up the ports with rubbing alcohol and a Q tip and let it dry before I took it out. - I don't know what kind of support I will get considering its out of warranty. They aren't answering phone calls much these days due to "covid and extremely high call volume" so I am waiting for their email reply. I sent them pics of everything. I will say their support has always been helpful to me since day one. I will be ordering the Biktrix Ultra Eagle with the bafang ultra mid drive soon. Until I can figure out this one or burn it on fire. My ebike is my only form of transportation so I can't be out of a ride for too long. I was already wanting a new bike but in my mind I was keeping this one too but, oh well let's see.

At just over 50 pounds, it remains agile to maneuver yet durable enough to withstand the bumps of city riding for years of low-stress transportation. Its step-through frame also ensures comfortable accessibility for riders of different heights and ages.

The Bosch Active Line mid-drive motor is a workhorse that powers the Verve+ 2 reliably. Rated at 250W continuous and a peak of 340W, it delivers natural yet substantial pedal assistance through a wide range of 40 Nm torque.

Mounted close to the bottom bracket, its smooth rotational force engages almost instantly to boost takeoffs and climbs with minimal effort. A sophisticated sensor monitors cadence precisely to scale assistance in direct proportion to how hard the rider pedals.

With an IP54 weather resistance rating, the compact design withstands rain, snow, salt and debris to maintain peak performance annually.

The integrated 400Wh lithium-ion battery uses advanced cell management to achieve a long-lasting lifespan of over 500 charge cycles. Locked securely below the downtube, it recharges to full power in 5 hours through the compact onboard 2A charger. With a capacity providing over 37 miles of average riding range, it allows stress-free multi-day commutes from a single charge. A fuel gauge on the digital display conveniently indicates remaining charge levels for planning refueling stops. Its integration remains discreet, keeping the ride aesthetics clean and predictable energy on hand.

Constructed of lightweight yet extremely durable 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, the Trek Verve+ 2’s frame is engineered for resilience. Horizontal top tube design and low standover height allow comfortable mounting and dismounts. Integrated Bosch internal cable routing tidies things up while providing reliable component protection. Numerous rack and accessory mounting points facilitate customization with add-ons to suit various carrying needs, from groceries to cargo. Combined with a longer wheelbase and short chainstays for agility, its geometry lends stability and confidence at any speed.

Trek pairs the 250W Bosch motor with a smooth-shifting 9-speed Shimano Alivio drivetrain to scale power delivery perfectly to riders’ input. Five levels of assistance empower all ability levels, from basic startup momentum to full 250W of boost. Even steep grades pose no difficulty thanks to the rotary force dishing out 40 Nm of torque. The cadence sensor detects how vigorously the pedals are turned to determine the ideal man and machine power blend. Hills that would strain regular bikes present no challenge. It effortlessly fades into the backdrop for breezier flats and cruising to let natural cycling take over.

  • Review of Trek brand

Trek’s cautious estimates predict an average range of 37+ miles from the 400Wh battery, but optimal conditions could push it farther. Too many variables affect battery life to promise identical results for all, but most average riders should comfortably ride 2-3 days between charges. The intuitive digital display monitor helps manage energy usage. Though distances may dip more with assist levels cranked and fully loaded touring, the ample fuel capacity still covers typical commutes with significant reserves. It recharges fast, too, making topping up hassle-free and maximizing the miles between plug-ins.

The Trek Verve+ 2's aluminum frame and component selection lend it predictable and sure-footed handling. The slightly shorter wheelbase and chainstays paired with the Alpha Gold frame's inherent stiffness translates rider input promptly without feeling twitchy. Up front, the steel fork provides compliance over ruts and pavement seams while keeping control precise. Wider 700c wheels with 45mm tires offer stable traction on rain-slicked or bumpy roads. Its upright riding position instills confidence in navigating traffic or path corners. Overall, the responsive but planted handling inspires confidence in steering a 27.5-pound electric bike through urban scenarios or around winding joyrides.

Reliable braking performance is crucial for any bike navigating busy streets, and the Verve+ 2 delivers with Shimano's hydraulic disc brakes.

The single-piston front and rear calipers are easy to modulate, delivering smooth and immediate stopping power even under heavy loads or high-speed situations. 160mm rotors up front and rear provide plenty of pad surface to bleed off speed even in adverse weather conditions.

Serious stopping power that feels linear and progressive inspires trust that the Verve+ 2's brakes will be there when needed most. Maintenance needs are simple, from easily replaced brake pads to a sealed system keeping dirt and grime out.

The Verve+ 2 prioritizes user-friendly control interfaces to ensure intuitive electric bike operation.

The backlit LCD display provides all necessary ride data clearly and visually intuitively. Mounted centrally on the handlebars, its large digits are easily readable in direct sunlight and low-light conditions thanks to automatic brightness adjustment. Beyond the current pedal assist level selection from 1-5, it shows real-time speed in either miles or kilometers per hour, total trip distance, a digital clock, and a battery level indicator gauge. Five bars indicate the remaining charge percentage that updates live. Simple and effective delivery of key information enhances the riding experience.

Control Buttons

For smooth and distraction-free control of essential functions while riding, the Verve+ 2 implements four hardware buttons. Situated ergonomically beneath the LCD in a central horizontal row, their shape and spring-loaded tactility allow easy pressing and feedback without looking down. The upward and downward arrows cycle smoothly through the five levels of Bosch pedal assistance preferred for any tempo or terrain. A power button turns the entire system on/off, while a menu button accesses basic bike settings. Reliably raising or lowering power is just one quick thumb motion away.

Pedal Assist

Riders maintain full control over their electric experience through natural pedaling input alone. No throttle means exercise is guaranteed. The assistance sensor mounted to the bottom bracket instantly gauges the force of each pedal stroke and smoothly engages the Bosch mid-drive motor in direct proportion. Amount of boost scales from basic momentum up to 250 watts of rotational force assistance as exertion increases. Subtle adjustments to cadence or how hard one pedal modulates power for rolling hills, quick acceleration from stops, or maintaining optimal cruising speeds with ease.

A 9-speed Shimano Alivio drivetrain provides a wide spread of gearing ratios to complement the powered pedaling experience. The rear derailleur and twist shifters offer intuitive and crisp shifting to precisely dial in the right balance of pedaling effort versus vehicle speed for any terrain grade or load. A greater number of gears than single-speed improves versatility, allowing easier climbing of steeper hills in lower gearing and higher top speeds in upper ranges for flats or light descents.

Assembly of the Verve+ 2 is straightforward for any moderately experienced wrench. The manual provides clear diagrams and instructions. The drivetrain, brakes and electrical components come partially assembled for simple installation. Mounting the compact rear rack takes minutes, while the pedals require a standard wrench. Inflating tires to proper psi is quick, and the handlebar/stem assembly clicks neatly into place. Rather than a full mechanical build, it involves mostly securing major parts like the battery, motor, and wheels. With basic tools, anyone can complete assembly within an afternoon. The process familiarizes new owners with the e-bike's core components before the first ride.

Accessories

The Verve+ 2 features mounting points to customize cargo and safety gear for any commute or ride.

Bright front and rear USB-charged lights from brands like Spanninga ensure riders are seen day or night. Integrated mounts securely hold lights in place without interfering with components. LED bulbs provide years of use from a single charge while achieving maximum visibility on evening rides and commutes. Lights promote safety without draining the battery.

Full-coverage plastic fenders defend against road spray and mud from the rear wheel. Clips attach them neatly under the chainstays at the back and around the fork legs up front. Optional flick/mud-flap extensions on the rear protect the rider and components from debris kicking back. Fenders make riding comfortable in all weather.

Racks & Mounts

In addition to the standard rear rack, additional mounts allow customizing the bike for different needs. Side racks from Topeak provide extra stable platforms for panniers or trailer attachments. Water bottle mounts keep hydration close at hand. A rear rack extends the cargo capacity.

The integrated center-mount steel kickstand holds the Verve+ 2 securely when parked without the risk of tip-over. It supports the full weight of the bike plus additional cargo on level or angled surfaces during stops.

Integrated wheel and leg/pedal reflective stickers enhance visibility to car headlights and streetlights within a 250-foot range after dark. They meet safety laws and reduce the risk of being overlooked on evening rides and commutes.

Trek offers the Verve+ 2 in three frame sizes to accommodate riders from 5'5" to 6'6". The size chart recommends heights and inseam lengths for a proper fit. The Medium is ideal for heights between 5'5" and 5'9" with an inseam of 30-33 inches. The Large size targets heights of 5'9" to 6'1" and an inseam of 32-35 inches. For taller riders between 6'1" and 6'6", the XL frame provides standover clearance for those with 34-37 inch inseams. Proper sizing ensures control and comfort, whether riding for errands or exercise.

At $2,849.99, the Verve+ 2 offers strong value for an electric bike with proven Bosch drive system performance. Its features and quality components blend routinely retail for over $3,000 in comparable e-bikes. Commuters easily recoup the investment in just over a year versus driving, thanks to fuel savings and maintenance costs alone. The battery health and motor lifespan are designed to provide years of powered transportation. Additional savings come from using it as a fitness device to replace gym memberships. Factoring utility, savings and pleasure into ownership balances out the upfront expense over the lifespan.

For commuters seeking a powerful and hassle-free electric companion, the Trek Verve+ 2 delivers an exemplary package. Its reliable Bosch motor paired with a long-range battery empowers consistent emissions-free commutes with ease. Well-designed controls and an intuitive interface require a minimal learning curve. The solidly built frame and components uphold daily miles with confidence.

Accessory mounts allow custom configurations, too. Overall, it strikes an ideal balance of performance, compatibility and value that is difficult to beat in the premium e-bike market. The Verve+ 2 earns a strong recommendation for anyone commuting to new levels of efficiency.

Trek Verve E-bike Series

The Trek Verve series consists of two models, the Verve 2 and Verve 3, which comes with a couple of differences. For instance, the Verve 3 features a Removable Integrated Battery with 500Wh, 50Nm motor torque, and runs on 700 by 50c Bontrager E6 tires. On the other hand, the Verve 2 uses an exposed 400Wh battery, 40Nm torque, and runs on 700 by 45c Bontrager H5 tires.

The Verve 2

The verve 3, our rating -  82 /100, trek verve+ 2.

The Trek Verve+ 2 is a hybrid electric bike that will boost your need for outdoor adventures! It is designed for commuting comfort, recreational cruises, and daily outings. It furthermore offers a slew of rider-friendly features. The best part of it all is that it is a very competitively priced electric bike!

Trek Verve+ 2 Review: Everything You Need To Know

  • by Riding With Ryan (Official)

trek verve+ 2 review

When my wife and I went e-bike shopping we knew we wanted a mid-drive e-bike with a step-through, or low step, option. We needed an e-bike that would be fun for guests can use when they visit, and something my wife can use to keep up on longer rides. Usually the altitude limits our visitors ability to go on bike rides, but viewing the City from the trail system is too amazing to miss. This Trek Verve+ 2 review will explain how this bike perfectly fit our needs.

This bike is a perfect fit for our family, but it is not perfect straight out of the box. In fact, there was one upgrade we made before we even left the bike shop. I’m going to share all of those problems, as well as everything we love about this bike.

Trek Verve+ 2 Problems

We haven’t had any serious problems with the Trek Verve+ 2. It probably doesn’t feel like a Trek Verve+ 2 review if I don’t bash on something, but this is a really well thought out bike. There is a quick release on the seat post to adjust saddle height, a rack already included, an adjustable stem and fenders to keep riders clean

Even though we haven’t had any problems, we have made a few modifications. The first modification we made was to the tires. The trail systems we ride most often are a combination of pavement and gravel. Some of the gravel sections can be a tad chunky and loose. The Bontrager H5 tires that come on the bike are excellent for commuting around town on pavement, but they felt a little loose at higher speeds on gravel.

Best Verve+ Upgrades

We ended up making the upgrade to a 700×50 gravel tire. According to the Trek Bikes website , this is the largest tire size they recommend for the Verve+ 2. My wife loved the look of tan sidewall tires and we ordered the first available pair. I also bought thorn resistant tubes. The shop installed the tubes and tires before we picked up the bike. The upgrade was easy and it totally transformed this bike.

trek verve 2 charger

One other modification we made was to the rear taillight. Rather than try to replace the light, we simply added a second that provides an additional level of functionality.

If you’ve followed me for a while you know I am a huge advocate of the Garmin Varia RTL515 radar tail light. ( Read my Varia RTL515 Review here .)

We ended up adding the taillight and have been using the app on my wife’s iPhone for the display. I love the way it displays on my Garmin computer, but another Edge is not something we need right now and the app works great.

What Is The Trek Verve+ 2 Range?

The range of this e-bike is relative to loads of different variables. The short and quick answer is you should get 30-80 miles on a full charge. That range is so broad is because range varies by fitness level, terrain, level of assist used, rider weight, and even a strong headwind will impact range. Our personal average has been just over 40 miles. That is riding mixed terrain with two riders of mixed fitness levels sharing the bike.

There are four different modes of assist: Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo. As the name implies, Eco will use the least amount of battery, while Turbo will use the most. If you hold down the minus(-) on your control pad it will change the display settings. The default is speed and odometer, but the second option shows your estimated range.

The normal display shows the traditional battery with illuminated bars indicating life. The range is nice because it converts that “bars” display into a mileage reading.

When riding the bike in Eco mode on flat surfaces we get a range of just over 80 miles. It’s hard to find such a flat stretch here in Colorado.

When climbing up hills in turbo mode the range is under 30 miles. We do have stretches of road with 30 mile climbs nearby. Thankfully you can double your mileage by simply turning around to go downhill.

Does the Verve+ 2 Have Suspension?

Yes, this bike comes with a seatpost suspension system offering 40mm of travel. Again, we take our Verve+ on gravel and it is incredibly comfortable. The slightly wider tires we upgraded also help smooth out the ride.

This suspension is not good enough to take this bike on a mountain bike trail. The riding posture is not ideal for aggressive trail riding either. The handlebars are adjustable to lay flat or stand upright. Even in the most aggressive position the bike feels more like a cruiser hybrid mix.

My question is how did I handle Those hills. I have read that the verve 2+ is underpowered and doesn’t do well on hills. We have a few in our neighborhood so this is a big issue for me

' src=

Power is all relative. The torque doesn’t have as many newton meters as others in this price range. If you are in shape and cycle already the assist offers plenty of power. If someone is getting into it to get in shape they will probably feel it is underpowered on steep inclines. I think it’s a great bike in terms of battery life, reliability and durability. It’s definitely not a peak performance machine.

' src=

Is there a way you can quick charge the battery? Charging the battery takes for every.I live in a hilly area and would like to increase the range of the bike. I really like to ride about 75 miles. I am 81 years old and need the help.

What is the range.

To see how far you can ride your electric bike on a single charge, check out Bosch’s range calculator. We’ve auto-filled the variables for this bike model and the average rider, but you can make adjustments to get your most accurate estimate.

Compliant with leading safety regulations

The e-systems on Trek and Electra e-bikes are third-party tested to meet the latest e-bike safety regulations, including the stringent UL 2849 certification — so all you have to worry about is where your e-bike will take you next.

Upgrade your pedals and love your bike more

Pedals are two of the five touchpoints that connect you with your bike, and even though this bike comes with a pair, upgrading to pedals that boost control and grip will greatly improve your ride. See the pedal guide and find the best pedals for your riding style. We recommend flat pedals for simple versatility.

Bosch's Purion display features a fully-functional speedometer with a backlit display, service interval indicator, and battery range indicator. Its thoughtful design allows riders to scroll through functions or choose the right level of support while maintaining contact with handlebars.

Bosch Active Line

The Bosch Active Line motor offers 40 Nm of torque for a smooth ride and just the right amount of support. The 250-watt motor is centrally located near the bottom bracket and supports speeds of up to 20mph.

How tall are you?

To measure your height, stand straight up, barefoot, with your back, heels, shoulders and head all touching a wall. While looking straight ahead, place a book or straight edge on your head and slowly push it against the wall. Your straight edge should be parallel with the floor. Mark the spot where the bottom of the book is touching the wall. The distance from the marked spot to the floor is your height.

What is your inseam?

How to measure: Stand barefoot with your back straight and against a wall. Tuck a ruler or something that extends to the floor between your legs. Using both hands, and keeping it level, pull the ruler up into your crotch as if you were sitting on the saddle. Measure the distance from the top edge of the ruler to the ground to find your inseam measurement. Your inseam is very important to your final bike size so please measure carefully.

Powertube battery stuck in frame, key not turning.

I've got a new issue on my Mondraker Level ? My powertube battery is currently stuck in the frame. I can insert the key, but it won't turn to unlock the battery. I noticed the lock now isn't quite central to the hole in the frame, and there is a little bit of play so I can insert the key and move the lock barrel 2-3mm towards or away from the battery, it's always had this bit of play but guess this is not normal? Anyone have an idea of how I can get it out? There is a pair of allen bolts externally for both battery mounts but I'm not sure this will help if the battery is already stuck. Shop I bought the bike from are a few hours drive away so would like to avoid if possible. I do have a Bosch service centre nearby if needed (bike is in warranty). Thanks

Sometimes I have to wiggle the battery at the same time as turning the key to get mine out. Or push the battery in slightly to activate the latching mechanism as I'm turning the key.

See if pushing down on the battery (as if you were re fitting) while gently turning the key helps. A squirt of WD40/GT85 into the lock may help as well.

Mikerb

How does the lock usually work? Does unlocking it turn a barrel or does it release a barrel outwards? The fact you can fully insert the key means the key is lifting the pins in the lock barrel OK so it is rotation of the barrel that is stuck. Applying lube inside the lock is not going to help therefore. Lube..or preferably wd40 needs to be applied to the external barrel. I suggest you squirt some wd 40 between the lock and the frame and also gently repeatedly tap that area to dislodge what is probably dust or grit causing it to stick.

  • Nov 26, 2020

Zimmerframe

Just a quick point .. NEVER ! EVER EVER squirt wd40 in locks, clocks or anything else with intricate small moving parts. Whilst WD40 is great for freeing up rusty crappy stuck stuff, it leaves behind a sticky residue. Small particles stick to this and build up turning it into a mix of sandpaper and grinding paste, eventually wearing away all the delicate bits. A silicone or teflon (ptfe) lube would be more appropriate.

Update - It's out! ? Didn't end up spraying anything, but pushing the battery into the frame and wiggling the barrel up and down a bit while turning the key it hit a spot where the key would turn easily and out it popped. Weird, I spent 10 mins trying the same yesterday... Since the barrel isn't lined up with the hole in the frame, I'm wondering whether it's worth trying to adjust the mounts at either end of the battery in the frame to set them up right. I'm not sure if there is any adjustment or whether they are fixed in place though. Off to go look for some diagrams/ youtube vids...

Just out of interest was there a change in ambient temperature since you first tried to get the battery out. My LBS mentioned to me last year that they had a couple of bikes with sticky batteries when the Power Tube batteries first came out. Their theory was that the battery was expanding slightly, so if there was a temp rise since the battery was installed, it was causing the battery to jam in the frame due to very tight clearance. Never heard mention of it on any forum since, so not certain if that theory is correct.

@Gigha - I tried taking the battery out mid-ride to swap for my spare. It was 10-11degC ambient at the time. I then tried again yesterday when it was 7-8degC and failed. This morning it was a bit cooler 3-4degC and the battery popped out with some wiggling. I've been swapping batteries fairly regularly before this without any issues.

I’ve just had a similar problem, in fact the lock has been getting more and more reluctant for a few weeks. It had got to a “one of us won’t survive this” stage ? I took the assembly apart which is quite simple. That made clear it was the lock barrel and not the catch/lever which I had thought it might be. I cleaned the lock, put it back together and it’s pretty smooth now opening every time, first time. I think a new lock isn’t expensive, 20-25 euros I think. I’m not much impressed with the quality of it, it’s made by Abus and not up to their usual standard I’d say.

  • Sep 12, 2021

I’ve had a similar issue on a Trek Rail where I got the key stuck and the battery jammed in position. I also spent a while trying to push and pull various things, with eventually the battery coming out. There are various causes, but generally a bracket alignment issue. I found the screws holding my bottom battery bracket were loose, which allowed the bottom bracket to tilt and jam the battery. These screws (for both the top and bottom brackets) can be tightened from the outside of the frame, so worth a check if your battery gets stuck. Once you get the battery out, follow the battery alignment guidelines to get the brackets in the correct position again.
