Following the May release of his latest album  The Off-Season , J. Cole has announced he will be heading out on tour with 21 Savage and Morray this fall.

The Off-Season Tour is set to kick off in September in Miami and conclude on Oct. 21 in Los Angeles. 21 Savage and Morray, who both appear on  The Off-Season  highlight “My Life,” will tag along for the majority of the shows, although 21 will miss the Atlanta show in late September. The list of dates includes Dreamville Festival 2022, scheduled for April.

Tickets for the tour will go on pre-sale this Wednesday, June 23, with general sale opening up on June 25. The announcement comes just a day after Cole teased a tour for the record, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart last month. The last time he toured was for  KOD  in 2018. Aside from the shows as part of the tour, Cole will also play Rolling Loud New York and Rolling Loud Los Angeles this October and December, respectively.

Following the release of  The Off-Season , a record Cole says will be followed by his long-teased album  The Fall Off , a rumored 2013 altercation between Cole and Diddy was the subject of renewed attention due to the track “Let Go My Hand.” The song featured an appearance from Diddy, providing the outro, and now the two have even poked fun at the incident .

J. Cole: The Off-Season Tour

By Katherine Goff

After going seven years without seeing a concert, Monday, October 4, I saw my favorite artist, rapper J.Cole , for the first time. At the beginning of 2019, my sister Ruby Goff (‘24), and I started listening to Cole’s most popular album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive . People who are not fans of Cole often recognize songs from this album, since it is known for going platinum three times without any features from other artists. After listening to this album on repeat for a year, I started listening to Cole’s older albums, such as Cole World: The Sideline Story . Songs from this album frequented my playlists and soon took over my Spotify entirely. I started watching videos on YouTube of Cole performing and started saving up to buy tickets for his next tour.

On May 14, J. Cole released his newest album, The Off-Season . About a month later, Cole posted a list on Instagram of tour dates and locations for the album. As soon as I saw the post, I called my sister and Eric McDaniel (‘22), a fellow J. Cole fan. Together, we decided that we would all purchase tickets and travel up to Washington, D.C. that Monday.

Cole released his first album, Cole World: The Sideline Story , on September 27, 2011, over ten years ago. While the album was successful, Cole’s claim to fame was through his third album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive . The album was nominated for Best Rap Album during the 58th Grammy Awards, and although Cole did not win, he later won Best Rap Song for “a lot” in 2019. Now having performed over 700 concerts, Cole has gained the title of being one of the most influential rappers in the industry.

As soon as the tickets went on sale for The Off-Season Tour, I jumped on my computer to try and find the best seats for the cheapest price. After calling McDaniel a mere five times and refreshing my browser over and over, I finally found the perfect seats.

Four months later, we finally arrived at the concert at the Capital One Arena. When waiting in line outside, we were not required to wear masks, but once we stepped inside and headed towards our seats, security guards asked that we put them on. Rules regarding vaccination status vary from venue to venue; however, we were never asked to show our vaccination cards or proof of a negative COVID test. McDaniel (‘22) stated that “it felt odd seeing an arena packed shoulder-to-shoulder, but it did bring back the sense of normal life.”

The show was scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. However, after reading reviews from Ticketmaster, I feared that Cole would not come out until 11:00 p.m. In order to make time go by, we decided to purchase overpriced shirts, sweatshirts, and snacks. We settled back into our seats, anticipating another two hours of waiting, but were shocked when we were greeted by Morray , one of J. Cole’s opening performers. He performed six songs, including his most popular song, “Quicksand.”  His music is similar to Cole’s but incorporates more singing than rapping.

Only 30 minutes later, 21 Savage arrived on stage to perform a few of his songs. Although I do not consider myself an avid listener of 21, I do enjoy some of his songs and have become more familiar with his music over the past few months. He sang some of his older, more popular songs, but surprised the crowd by performing his feature from one of Drake’s newest songs, “Knife Talk.” 21 Savage’s performance brought energy to the arena, and I thought he was an exceptional introduction to Cole.

Unlike any other concert I have been to, I never felt like I was waiting for an extensive period of time. After 21 wrapped up, internet comedian Druski performed for the crowd. Laughter echoed through the arena as Druski danced, sang, and cracked jokes. His act was relatively short, and McDaniel believes that “he got the crowd in a good mood before J. Cole came out.” As he left the stage, the lights dropped, and a video of Cole in the dressing room played on the big screen.

One of my favorite moments during a concert is when the artist appears on stage for the first time. When J. Cole walked on stage, I felt a rush of adrenaline and excitement fall over me. It is a surreal feeling when you finally see an artist in person. All I can think during these moments is, “They are actually real.” As Cole sang his first song, a massive basketball net blew up in flames behind him. The fire reflected a red tint throughout the entire arena and lit up Cole from behind. As Cole closed out his first song, my nervous adrenaline seemed to go away.

the off season tour dates

Cole explained to the crowd how he sees concerts as a “safe space” to share his music in a positive light. He mentioned how artists perform their most popular songs because they excite the crowd, but he believes in sharing songs that are most important to him. So Cole performed older songs, such as “Nobody’s Perfect” and “Back to the Topic,” to emphasize his point.

Alongside those two songs, Cole mainly performed songs from The Off-Season album. For example, he began the concert with “9 5 . s o u t h” and followed with “a m a r i” and “a p p l y i n g . p r e s s u r e.”

As I looked to my left and right, I saw fellow concert-goers rapping along with every song, word for word. It is an amazing feeling to be surrounded by people with the same interests as you. The concert went relatively quick; I remember looking down at my phone and being surprised when it was already 10:45 p.m.

Towards the end of the concert, Cole performed his most popular song, “No Role Modelz.” Ruby exclaimed, “When I heard the beginning of the song come on, I was ecstatic. ‘No Role Modelz’ was the first song I had ever heard from J. Cole,” and McDaniel  knew “every word to [the song], and so did the majority of the crowd.”

I could feel myself losing my voice and becoming more and more tired by the minute, but when Cole performed his last song, “MIDDLE CHILD,” I gained a second wave of energy.

Jordan Rose of Variety had a similar experience when attending Cole’s show in Brooklyn. She explains that “as concert-goers exited the Barclays Center, one could still hear Cole’s lyrics being murmured by fans making their way home.”

After the concert ended, I fell into what is known as post-concert depression. However, in the days following the concert, I listened to J. Cole repeatedly and replayed the concert over and over in my head. If Cole ever visits Washington, D.C. again, you will be sure to find me somewhere in the crowd.

The Off-Season Tour is headed to a city near you, kicking things off in September down in Miami before concluding on October 21 in Los Angeles. 21 Savage and Morray, who both appear on The Off-Season standout “My Life,” will open for the majority of the shows, but 21 will miss the Atlanta show in late September. These dates include the long-awaited rescheduled Dreamville Festival 2022, which is set for April.

This major announcement from Cole’s camp comes just a day after Cole teased a tour for The Off-Season,  so fans didn’t have to wait long for these dates to be released. The last time the North  Carolina native toured was for KOD in 2018, so this is going to be major for a lot of concert-goers.

Aside from the shows as part of the tour, Cole will also be playing Rolling Loud in New York and Rolling Loud Los Angeles this October and December.

For anyone interested, tickets for The Off-Season Tour will go on pre-sale this Wednesday, June 23, with general sale opening up on June 25 over on dreamville.com.

J.Cole’s “The Off-Season” has been wowing fans since its release back in May. The album debuted at Number 1 on the Rolling Stone Top 200 Albums char t. Cole also topped the Artists 500 chart , marking a major milestone for the rapper. This is J.Cole’s sixth studio album and the highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s KOD as well as 2019’s Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation.

J Cole Profile

J Cole is a rap artist from Fayetteville, North Carolina. He released a number of highly rated mixtapes that lead up to his eventual signing to Roc Nation and being named onto the XXL Freshman List. His debut album, Cole World, topped the charts with over 218,000 copies sold in the first week.

J Cole is a private person and after his second album in 2012, Born Sinner, he went on a little hiatus to collect himself. J Cole returned in with 2014 Forest Hills Drive, a surprise album release that had little promotion and marketing before it was released. The album also contained no features, just J Cole. It was a commercial and critical success.

J Cole’s two most recent albums, 4 Your Eyez Only and the recent KOD, have also followed the path of surprise release and no featured artists. It is a system that has worked well for J Cole. The Off-Season, released in 2021, had minimal promotion before its release.

In 2021, J Cole headed out on The Off-Season tour with 21 Savage. In 2024, he went out on tour with drake.

The Voice coaches are bringing a little church to the singing competition’s set ahead of Monday’s season 25 premiere.

For the show’s traditional season-opener group performance, John Legend , Reba McEntire , Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay got together to sing a soulful rendition of Jackie DeShannon’s “Put a Little Love in Your Heart.” With the country duo’s Dan Smyers on guitar, all five of the coaches took turns singing lines from the song as a huge gospel choir surrounding the stage provided ethereal harmonies.

Made Them Look! This Trio Gets Every Coach to Turn With Meghan Trainor Cover in ‘The Voice…

“All the world will be a better place/ For you and me,” the collective sang, each star’s unique voice contrasting with the others. “You just wait and see, wait and see.”

Trending on Billboard

This season of The Voice launches Monday (Feb. 26), with Legend, McEntire and Chance all returning form previous panels. It’ll mark Smyers and Shay Mooney’s first time as coaches — the pair have previously been involved with the show as guest advisors — and the two will share a spinning chair and button. And yes, they’re aware that the setup might pose some challenges.

“When we were flying out [to L.A.] for the first time, we looked over at each other’s like, ‘Should we come up with some kind of strategy, like two taps on the knee is a yes?’ We didn’t realize when they started taping that there’s cameras on you from every angle at all times, you’re miked up,” Mooney told Billboard Friday. “If one of us is really feeling it, we’ve given each other permission to go ahead and smash that button and turn that chair around. But the two chairs, one button [thing] is an interesting dynamic.”

Cage The Elephant Announce 45-Date North American Summer Tour Kicks Off On June 20th and New Album, Neon Pill, Out On May 17 Via Rca Records

Facebook icon

SHARE NEW SONG “ OUT LOUD ”

Today, Cage The Elephant, the GRAMMY® Award winning rock band mark their return and announce both the release of their forthcoming sixth studio album, Neon Pill (May 17, RCA Records) and their 45-date North American summer tour. The new album finds the Kentucky-bred six piece—brothers Matthew Shultz [vocals] and Brad Shultz [guitar], Daniel Tichenor [bass], Jared Champion [drums], Nick Bockrath [lead guitar], and Matthan Minster [guitar, keys, backing vocals]— forging new musical ground, while maintaining their uncompromising creativity and wildly cathartic performances. “To me, Neon Pill is the first record where we were consistently uninfluenced, and I mean that in a positive way,” observes Matthew. “Everything is undoubtedly expressed through having settled into finding our own voice. We’ve always drawn inspiration from artists we love, and at times we’ve even emulated some of them to a certain degree. With this album, having gone through so much, life had almost forced us into becoming more and more comfortable with ourselves. We weren’t reaching for much outside of the pure experience of self expression, and simultaneously not necessarily settling either. We just found a uniqueness in simply existing.” The album is available to pre-order on all formats here .

Cage The Elephant’s 45-date North American US tour , produced by Live Nation, will kick off on June 20 in Salt Lake City with shows in cities including Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City (full dates below), with support from Young The Giant & Bakar on most dates.  Tickets and VIP available for all dates will go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 8th at 10am local here , and numerous presales, including for the band’s Fan Club, Discord, and Spotify followers will begin on Tuesday, March 5th  at 10am local time. For all Canadian dates, American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Tuesday, March 5 at 10am local time through Thursday, March 7 at 10pm local time.

From their humble beginnings in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Cage The Elephant have gone on to become one of the generation’s premier rock bands. They have earned dozens of Gold, Platinum, and Multiplatinum certifications, tallied over 5 billion streams, and notched ten #1 records on Alternative Radio and 5 #1 records on Triple A Radio. Their previous two albums Tell Me I’m Pretty [2015] and Social Cues [2019] garnered consecutive Best Rock Album GRAMMY® Awards. They are maybe most celebrated for their live show. The stage is their home turf, where they are most comfortable, and their performances, ecstatic and unchained, as well as cathartic and soul bearing are what Neon Pill achieves in documenting.

Neon Pill, produced by John Hill, materialized during sessions at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Electric Lady in New York, Sound Emporium in Nashville, Echo Mountain in North Carolina, and at Hill’s own studio in Los Angeles, and alchemized a season of tragedy and turbulence into the twelve tracks on their sixth full-length album. Nine months  into the pandemic, Matthew and Brad lost their father. The band weathered the back-to-back deaths of friends, while Matthew experience depression and a mental breakdown, culminating in hospitalization. Coming out on the other side, he learned quite a bit about himself, and gained a whole lot of strength and wisdom. Neon Pill came to life in the eye of the storm.

Today, the band share their new song, “ Out Loud ” the emotional centerpiece of Neon Pill . Backed by stark piano, Matthew’s bare delivery quakes as he sings, “Man, I really messed up now . ”   “Maybe it’s so straightforward and honest, because I didn’t know if it would see the light of day,” he admits. “‘Out Loud’ is very connected to my father. My dad’s the reason we discovered music in the first place. When he died, ‘Out Loud’ just poured out of me. My efforts towards the song were deeply rooted in paying honor to him, and I knew it meant a lot to Brad too,” he remarks. That, also in connection with the difficulties that I was dealing with at that time. It was almost a subconscious apology of sorts before I was fully capable of grasping the gravity of it all. Subconsciously working through it while channeling all of the adversity my family faced growing up coming full circle into my adult life in this one song.” The release of this song follows the latest single, “Neon Pill.” Listen to it here .

About Cage The Elephant

Since forming in 2006, Cage The Elephant have quietly bloomed as one of this generation’s premier rock bands buoyed by uncompromising creativity and wildly cathartic performances. Thus far, they have earned dozens of Gold, Platinum, and Multi Platinum certifications, tallied 5 billion streams and counting, and notched ten #1 records on Alternative Radio and 5 #1 records on Triple A Radio. The guys consecutively garnered two GRAMMY® Awards in the category of “Best Rock Album” for both Tell Me I’m Pretty [2015] and Social Cues [2019]. Of the latter, Entertainment Weekly raved, “The album’s introspection paired with its urgent energy make Cage The Elephant sound more passionate than ever.” In the meantime, their music has also surged through popular culture as “Cigarette Daydreams” graced the soundtrack of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 blockbuster video game, “Goodbye” appeared in The Summer I Turned Pretty , and “Trouble” powered a global campaign for Amazon Prime. Plus, they’re the rare force of nature who can inspire millions of TikTok creates or hold their own on stage with Dave Grohl and duet with Iggy Pop and Beck. The Kentucky-bred six-piece instinctually lean on their enduring bond as both musicians and friends to get through anything and everything. Together, the band members make sense of life’s unpredictability and uncertainty via music. Moments of elation might take the form of sticky hooks, swaggering rhythms, or upbeat guitars, while tense riffs and jittery grooves could give shape to feelings of anxiety, doubt, or instability. As such, the group fearlessly alchemize a season of tragedy and turbulence into the twelve tracks on their sixth full-length album, Neon Pill [RCA Records].

Taylor Swif t is in her Singapore era!

As the Grammy winner continues to bring her Eras Tour global, the latest stop was the National Stadium in Singapore, where she kicked off a six-night stint on March 2.

In video captured from the first show, Swift shared that the stop was an important one for her and her family, as "my mom actually spent a lot of her childhood with her mom and dad and sister growing up in Singapore."

"So a lot of the time when we'd come here on tour, my mom would take me and drive me past her old house, where she used to go to school. So I've been hearing about Singapore my whole life," she continued, before adding that the experience "means the world."

From her sweet "22" hat moment to her hair's response to the humidity , these are the best photos from Swift's first night in Singapore!

Welcome to Singapore!

Swift kicked off night one in her signature Lover era custom Atelier Versace bodysuit.

When talking about her family's ties to the country, Swift shared, "To get to come here and play a show this big with so many beautiful, generous people who are essentially honoring my family with what you just did with that song, it means the world."

"I already love you," she added. "We're going to have a blast tonight."

All Together Now

Swift and her backup singers were all smiles on stage Saturday night. Later in the set — when it was time to dive into the acoustic portion — Swift graced the audience with two mashups : a mix of "Mine" from Speak Now   and "Starlight" from   Red , as well as "I Don't Want to Live Forever" from the  Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack played with with "Dress" from  Reputation .

Quick Change

As she slithered her way into the Reputation era, Swift's curls were starting to poke through, which she referred to later as her hair's "factory settings."

"I'm not complaining, I like it," she said.

Fan Connection

In one of the sweetest traditions from each of Swift's Eras Tour stops, the superstar shared a moment with the latest recipient of her "22" hat.

For the rest of her Red era, Swift revealed a red and black sequin Ashish romper, which she later paired with a matching coat.

Sweet Serenade

As she does with every one of her lengthy sets, Swift gracefully transitioned between each of her eras as the night went on.

Twirls and Swirls

During the folklore portion of the show, she swirled around in her Alberta Ferretti dress.

Ballad Time

While still in the dreamy world she created for the 2020 album, Swift laid on a top of a patch of grass as she sang "The 1."

Center Stage

And before the show came to a close, Swift took her seat for the sultry performance of "Vigilante Sh--" in blue sequins.

Grand Finale

To close out the. night, as her hair continued to curl, Swift threw on her sparkling pink coat as she and her dancers and backup singers gave it their last hurrah before heading into the rest of the week's shows.

NFL key dates for 2024 offseason: Free agency, NFL Draft schedule, start of training camps

Your one-stop shop for key nfl offseason dates.

nfl-logo-getty.jpg

The 2023 NFL season came to a close after the  Kansas City Chiefs  won their second consecutive Super Bowl . Teams are ready for what will be another busy offseason. They'll try their best to end Kansas City's two-year reign atop the league, while the champs will undoubtedly look to do what they can this year to attempt a three-peat.

Throughout the next several months, teams will adjust their roster, coaching staff, and styles of play to get ready for the new season. In the space below, we're highlighting all the key dates and events to watch out for as the league prepares for the 2024 season.

Franchise/transition tag window

  • Feb. 20: Franchise/transition tag window opens
  • March 5: Franchise/transition tag deadline (4 p.m. ET)

NFL  Scouting Combine (Indianapolis)

The 2024 NFL Combine (Feb. 26-March 4)

  • Feb. 29, 3 p.m. ET: Defensive linemen, linebackers
  • March 1, 3 p.m. ET: Defensive backs, tight ends
  • March 2, 1 p.m. ET: Quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs
  • March 3, 1 p.m. ET: Offensive linemen

Hundreds of prospects got measured, tested, interviewed, and worked out at and around Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Free agency

  • March 11-13: Legal tampering period (Noon ET Monday to 4 p.m. ET Wednesday)
  • March 13 : 2024 league year opens (4 p.m. ET)

The necessity of the so-called "legal tampering period" aside, it is going to open at noon on Monday, March 11 and last until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, at which point the new league year officially begins and teams can officially sign and/or trade players. Many deals are agreed to during the tampering period, but they cannot become official until after 4 p.m. on Wednesday. We've seen several times that players can -- and sometimes do -- reverse course even if they came to an agreement during the tampering period.

Annual league meeting

  • March 24-27: Annual league meeting in Orlando, Florida

NFL owner's meetings always bring with them some drama, and you can expect news about possible rules changes and more to come out of those meetings.

Offseason workout programs

The NFL gives teams with new head coaches a jump on their offseason workouts, as it typically takes those teams a bit longer to get up to speed. Teams with returning head coaches don't get to begin offseason programs until two weeks after those with a new head coach.

  • April 1:  Teams with a first-year head coach can begin offseason workout programs
  • April 15:  Teams with a returning head coach can begin offseason workout programs

Pre-NFL Draft

  • April 17: Deadline for NFL Draft prospects to meet at team facilities
  • April 19: Deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets
  • April 24: Deadline to RFA match offer sheets; Deadline to meet with NFL Draft prospects at any location

In the final week before the NFL Draft , teams can wrap up their last meetings with prospects, but in those final seven days, they are not allowed to have the prospects come to their facility. They can meet with them virtually or at an outside location.

NFL Draft (Detroit)

  • April 25: Round 1
  • April 26: Round 2-3
  • April 27: Round 4-7

You know how this goes. The draft has become a three-day extravaganza that travels to a different location each season. This year it is headed to Detroit, where Lions fans will surely be appropriately amped up after their team's best season in years. The Chicago Bears are already on the clock with the No. 1 overall selection, which they have captured for the second consecutive year. (They traded last year's pick to the Panthers .)

Post-NFL Draft

  • May 2: Deadline for teams to pick up fifth-year option for 2021 first-round draft picks
  • May 3-6 or May 10-13: Three-day rookie minicamp

The 2021 draft saw quarterbacks go with each of the top three picks as Trevor Lawrence , Zach Wilson  and Trey Lance came off the board. There are some no-brainer candidates for players whose options will surely be picked up (Lawrence, Ja'Marr Chase , Jaylen Waddle , Penei Sewell , Jaycee Horn , Patrick Surtain II , DeVonta Smith , Micah Parsons , Rashawn Slater , etc.) but some others could surprise.

Soon after those decisions are made, the players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft will report to team facilities for a four-day minicamp session. It is up to teams which of those two windows they want to utilize.

Lead-up to 2024 NFL season

  • Early May: NFL schedule release
  • May 20-22: Spring league meeting
  • Late May to early June: Organized Team Activities (OTAs)
  • July 17: Franchise tag deadline (4 p.m. ET)
  • Mid-to-late July: Training camps open

We already know which teams will play each other (and where), thanks to the NFL's rotating schedule rules. We just don't yet know when those games will happen. We'll find out for sure in the first or second week of May.

The rest of the offseason, with the exception of the franchise tag deadline (which is the deadline for tagged players to sign a long-term deal with that franchise) is more up in the air at the moment. When dates become available, we'll fill them in here.

The tour is in support of the rapper’s latest release, ‘Set It Off’.  The Migos rapper released his highly-anticipated second album last year, featuring verses from  his estranged wife Cardi B , as well as Travis Scott ,  Future ,  Latto  and more.

In a three-star review of the LP, NME shared: “[The album] doesn’t reflect Offset’s legacy. In the  Metro Boomin -produced 2017 single ‘Ric Flair Drip’, Offset alludes that he’s in the same league as the 16-time wrestling champion – perhaps he’s more like Jeff Hardy; a beloved solo figure, but at his best with his brothers.”

In other news, it was reported earlier this year that Offset and Cardi B had reportedly fallen victim to the rising trend of ‘swatting’ hoaxes .

On January 8, TMZ  obtained body cam footage of an August 2023 incident, where a dispatched SWAT team went to investigate an alleged shooting at the rapper couple’s Sandy Springs, Georgia home. The police were greeted by Offset’s uncle, Derrick Cephus, on the driveway, who called his nephew and told him, “Someone said Cardi got shot.

IR-2024-53, Feb. 28, 2024

WASHINGTON — With millions of tax refunds going out each week, the Internal Revenue Service reminded taxpayers today that recent improvements to Where's My Refund? on IRS.gov provide more information and remains the best way to check the status of a refund.

The Where’s My Refund? tool provides taxpayers with three key pieces of information: IRS confirmation of receiving a federal tax return, approval of the tax refund and issuing date of the approved tax refund. Information for returns from tax years 2023, 2022 and 2021 is available.

During this busy part of filing season, millions of taxpayers are anticipating refunds. In the second of the weekly Tax Time Guide series, the IRS highlights important details about Where’s My Refund? that can help taxpayers quickly get the information they need without calling the IRS.

The improvements to the heavily used tool follow Inflation Reduction Act funding, which is providing for a variety of IRS technological advances and upgrades designed to help taxpayers and transform agency operations.

Where’s My Refund? enhancements

In filing season 2024, taxpayers will benefit from important updates that reduce the need for many taxpayers to call the IRS and include:

  • Messages with detailed refund status in plain language.
  • Seamless access on mobile devices and with the IRS2Go app.
  • Notifications indicating whether the IRS needs additional information.

How to use Where’s My Refund?

To use Where’s My Refund?, taxpayers must enter their Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification number, filing status and the exact whole dollar amount of their expected refund from the original tax return for the year they're checking.

Once the IRS acknowledges receipt of a return, refund status information is typically available within:

  • 24 hours after receipt of a taxpayer's e-filed tax year 2023 return.
  • Three to four days after receipt of an e-filed tax year 2022 or 2021 return.
  • Four weeks after mailing a paper return.

Taxpayers should note that the IRS updates the tool once a day, usually overnight, so there's no need to check more often. The IRS reminds taxpayers that the fastest way to get a refund is by filing electronically and using direct deposit .

Refund delivery

Many different factors may affect the timing of refund delivery:

  • The tax return has errors, requires additional review or is incomplete.
  • The return needs a correction to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit .
  • The time between the IRS issuing the refund and the bank posting it to an account may vary since processing times fluctuate.

The IRS will contact taxpayers by mail if more information is needed to process a return. IRS phone and walk-in representatives can only research the status of a refund if:

  • 21 days or more have passed since a return was filed electronically.
  • Six weeks or more have passed since a return was mailed.
  • Where’s My Refund? tells the taxpayer to contact the IRS.

If a taxpayer refund isn't what is expected, it may be due to changes made by the IRS. These changes could include corrections to the Child Tax Credit or EITC amounts or an offset from all or part of the refund amount to pay past-due tax or debts. More information about reduced refunds is available on IRS.gov.

F iling season reminders

Taxpayers should make IRS.gov their first stop to get information on filing a tax return. There is information on Choosing a tax professional , IRS Free File , Answers to tax questions and Tips on filing a return .

Taxpayers who file electronically and choose direct deposit typically get their refund in less than 21 days. Taxpayers who don't have a bank account can find out how to open a bank account at a FDIC-insured bank or the National Credit Union Locator Tool .

Refund information for amended tax returns is not available on Where’s My Refund? Use Where’s My Amended Return?  to get the status of an amended return.

The deadline for most taxpayers to file a tax return, pay any tax due or request an extension to file is Monday, April 15.

This news release is part of a series called the Tax Time Guide , a resource designed to help taxpayers file an accurate tax return. Additional help is available in Publication 17, Your Federal Income Tax (For Individuals) PDF .
