UW-La Crosse offers curbside campus tour

A member of UW-La Crosse Admissions meets visitors at the curbside to provide a folder of information about UWL and a map featuring QR codes to begin their own self-guided tour of campus with audio.

QR codes at popular tour stops provide prospective students and families a self-guided experience

Curbside pickup in the age of COVID-19 is nothing out of the ordinary. From groceries to restaurant takeout, finding service at the curb is the new norm. Now curbside pickup has come to college campus recruiting.

UW-La Crosse Admissions recently rolled out a curbside pickup option, allowing prospective students and families to arrive at the curb to begin their own, self-guided campus tour by tapping into audio recordings at popular tour stops.

An Admissions counselor greets visitors at their car, providing a folder of information about UWL and a map featuring QR codes. Using a smartphone, the codes connect visitors to audio recordings describing various campus spots, such as Hoeschler Tower and Prairie Springs Science Center.

“Our Admissions Office is working hard to provide new options so prospective students and their families can still learn about UWL and hear about the many opportunities on campus,” says Corey Sjoquist, UWL director of Admissions. “We know a lot of students who choose UWL say they just felt at home when they toured campus, so I’m glad we can provide different options.”

The Admissions Office is also providing in-person information sessions with tours of campus, a virtual “facts and furious” session for 30 minutes every Friday, as well as individual virtual appointments with Admissions staff.

The curbside tour is offered from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and is outdoors only. Curbside and other Admissions visits require registration. Learn more at  https://www.uwlax.edu/admissions/explore/visit-us/  or by calling Admissions at 608.785.8939.

  • For more information about your NetID, check out https://www.uwlax.edu/its/knowledge-base/netidemail/ .
  • Note : Student accounts are deactivated and deleted, or they lose access to their school accounts, about 6 months after graduating or leaving UWL.

Student ID Number

Your student ID number  is a 9 digit numbe r  that is only associated to you and it shows you are a part of UWL. This number should have been originally provided to you by Admissions. If you misplace or forget your student ID please contact Records and Registration . Your student ID number is not the same as your NetID. It is used for a various of reasons including activating your NetID via First Time Access and when you need Account - Password Reset Help

  • Password Management if you need to recover or reset your password;
  • Account Locked if you are experiencing an account lockout .

What is multi-factor authentication (Okta)?

Okta is our 2-step authentication method needed when logging into UWL accounts, like Canvas, WINGS and email. This authentication method requires a second device, like the Okta Verify Mobile app on a smartphone, which is our most recommended and most common choice of Okta device. This makes your UWL account more secure against online attacks and phishing because if your password becomes compromised, only you have access to the Okta device for your account.

A page within Admissions

A scholarship is a monetary award that does not have to be repaid. Scholarships are a great way to help subsidize the costs associated with attending college.

Merit-Based Scholarships

In recognition of outstanding academic achievement, UW-La Crosse awards more than 400 merit-based scholarships to incoming students each year through a competitive scholarship award process.

What is the Merit-Based Scholarship process?

All incoming freshmen students who are admitted by our priority application date of February 1, will be considered for incoming freshmen merit-based scholarships. There is no separate application to apply for these funds.

What is considered in the scholarship process?

Merit-based scholarship award consideration includes evaluation of criteria including high school course rigor, class rank, grade point average, ACT/SAT scores, and application essays.

When will I hear if I've been awarded a merit-based scholarship?

Scholarship award notices will be mailed beginning in the late fall and continue through spring.

Special Circumstances

While the majority of our scholarships are merit-based, funds are available to acknowledge special circumstances, experiences, and efforts in addition to academic success. Completion of this form is not required nor does it guarantee an award. However, the information provided may allow us to better acknowledge a student's holistic life experience based on the mission, vision, and values of our institution.

Special Circumstances Form

Eagle Apprentice Program

The  Eagle Apprentice Program  offers 50 first- and second-year students an engaging educational experience while providing faculty members with assistance in areas such as student-faculty research, instructional assistance, and computing support. Financial support for the Eagle Apprentices includes a $1,000 grant in their first year and $1,000 in their second year.  Eligible students are selected by the Admissions Office and no application is required.

Non-Resident Scholarships

UW-La Crosse offers a number of scholarship opportunities specific to students residing outside of Wisconsin and Minnesota. For more information on our Non-Resident Scholarships, please visit our Non-Resident Tuition Programs page .

Through the UW-La Crosse Foundation, UW-La Crosse is able to award over $500,000 in scholarship money each year. Not only are scholarships available to entering freshman and transfer students but also to continuing UW-La Crosse students. Admitted students can apply for  Foundation Scholarships from October 1 to February 1.

The  Scholarship Resource Center (SRC) encourages students to focus on alternative funding options that match with their personal achievements and unique personalities.  The SRC is committed to helping students identify their strengths, locate scholarships specific to them and prepare/edit supporting materials.  To that end we will be offering a number of workshops related to the scholarship application process in the near future.

As part of the SRC, we've created a new online scholarship database .  This database allows you to search and filter to easily locate awards you are eligible for.  We continue to grow the number of scholarship opportunities everyday, so please check often for new awards.

Please be advised that external scholarships are separate from our UWL Foundation Scholarships.

Individuals admitted to UWL graduate programs are also eligible to apply for scholarships. View the criteria for each scholarship and apply at  https://www.uwlax.edu/graduate-studies/financial-aid2/#tm-scholarships .
