6 Best Recliners For RVs, Campers & Trailers 2024

motorhome at campsite with rv recliner inside

What Is An RV Recliner?

Back in the day when campers and RVs were a lot smaller and all about furniture that could double as a bed you didn’t see a lot of recliners.

Today, with all the huge travel trailers, 5th-wheels, and motorhomes out there space for both recliners and sleeper furniture like sofas and dinettes is becoming more available.

If you’ve ever been inside a rear living camper there are normally two RV recliners sitting in the back with a small table between them.

RV recliners aren’t that different from regular home recliners. They are normally a little smaller and more lightweight but a small home recliner is basically the same thing.

Some RV furniture can be bolted down but that’s more common in motorhomes than camper trailers and I’ve yet to see an RV recliner that’s been nailed to the floor.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try and secure your camper recliner for travel. I just mean that if you get a small lightweight recliner it will work just as well as an RV specific recliner.

In our travel trailer, we had a lightweight armchair from IKEA like this one (click to view on Amazon) .

I would bungee it to the wall for travel and we enjoyed having some more comfortable regular furniture in our camper.

In this review, I’m going to go over some camper recliners that are made specifically for RV use and a few other options that are similar in size and weight that are not technically made for campers but they are still a fantastic option.

I’m going to focus on single seat recliners, not reclining sofas.

Best RV Recliners Reviewed

1. recpro charles wall hugger rv recliner.

Check Price at Amazon

The RecPro Charles Collection is the biggest and heaviest RV recliner in this review.

There are a few different color and fabric options. The one linked to above is upholstered with a strong but soft linen cloth that is sold in a light brown or grey.

There’s also a faux leather option (click to view on Amazon) that comes in multiple colors but has the same specs as the cloth version.

The most RV friendly feature of the RecPro recliner is the zero wall also known as the “wall hugger” design.

Most recliners often need to sit at least a few feet from a wall so the backrest doesn’t hit anything when you recline back. A “wall hugger” recliner is designed to be able to sit near or even against a wall and still be able to recline.

It works by using a moving base so the backrest moves out and away from the wall instead of back into it.

This zero wall camper recliner needs only 3 inches between the back wall and the headrest to be able to fully recline.

It’s one of the best features for saving space in a camper. It’s not always necessary, especially if you have a large travel trailer or 5th-wheel but it’s nice to have the option to keep the recliner closer to the wall.

The RV chair sits on a metal frame with a large square base. It could be bolted to the floor but it doesn’t always need to be since the weight and base should keep it from moving around during travel.

The reclining mechanism is manual and uses a lever on the right hand side below the armrest.

When in an upright position the RecPro is 38 inches tall, 30 inches wide, and 30.25 inches deep. The depth measurement is at the base. The backrest does angle back a little bit so you may need around 34 inches of space to fit this camper recliner.

When fully reclined the entire chair takes up 62 inches of space.

It weighs 88 lbs in total.

There is no stated weight limit but it’s a large chair that should be able to hold the weight of most people.

The RecPro Charles Wall Hugger RV Recliner is one of the most comfortable and best camper recliner out there.

It’s has a lot of comfortable padding, it uses the “wall hugger” design, and it’s lightweight for its size.

Wall Hugger Recliner

  • Multiple Fabric & Color Options
  • RV Specific
  • Lots Of Armrest Padding
  • Heavy (88 lbs)

2. Thomas Payne Swivel Pushback Camper Recliner

The Thomas Payne RV recliner is another popular option for motorhomes and trailers.

It uses a slim design but it’s stuffed with thick high-density foam which makes it comfortable even if it doesn’t look as puffy as a regular recliner.

There are multiple color and fabric options. The most popular choice among RVers is Thomas Payne’s own “PolyHyde Vinyl”. It’s soft but very durable and easy to clean. There’s also a fabric option if you aren’t a fan of vinyl upholstery.

This is not a “wall hugger” recliner but it does sit on a swivel base that allows it to spin 360 degrees. You can have it close to the wall and spin away from it when you want to recline.

The metal swivel base is something you use to bolt this camper recliner to the floor with but it’s not always necessary since the weight should keep it in place during travel. Especially if it’s sitting on carpet.

When in an upright position the RV chair measures 41 inches tall, 28 inches wide, and 34 inches deep. You will need around 25 inches of space behind the chair in order for the backrest to fully recline.

It weighs 76 lbs and has a rated weight capacity of 350 lbs.

The backrest comes off to make it easier to fit through small RV entryways and doors.

This is a pushback recliner which means there are no levers you have to pull to recline. Just push back and the footrest will automatically pop out.

The Thomas Payne Swivel Pushback Camper Recliner is a small but comfortable RV furniture option that has some great features.

The 360 swivel makes it great for small spaces since you can simply turn the backrest away from the wall when you want to fully recline.

  • Easy To Clean Vinyl Option
  • Not A Wall Hugger Recliner
  • Heavy (76 lbs)

3. Thomas Payne Euro Camper Recliner

Euro recliners are the RVing world’s answer to lightweight furniture that’s still full sized and comfortable to sit in.

This version of a Euro camper recliner by Thomas Payne weighs only 45 lbs!

It’s basically a recliner without the heavy metal frame inside. Instead, two wooden legs are used to hold up the chair. The curve of the wood actually allows the chair to rock slightly which gives it a comfortable zero gravity feel.

The downside to this design is a low weight limit of 250 lbs.

The wooden bottom sits on a metal swivel base. It can turn 360 degrees and can be bolted to the floor.

There’s a small lever on the side of the bottom seat cushion you pull to release the backrest and footrest.

It can recline to a 45 degree angle. Maybe not quite as far as a regular recliner but it’s enough for leaning back and relaxing in front of the TV.

When in an upright position the RV chair is 39 inches tall, 26 inches wide, and 33 inches deep. When fully reclined it’s 50 inches long.

You will need some space behind the chair to fully recline since this isn’t a wall hugger RV recliner.

Like the Thomas Payne RV recliner reviewed above this euro recliner has multiple color and fabric options including the PolyHyde vinyl that’s easy to clean and very tough.

It’s padded with high density foam and there is even some cushion on the armrests.

The Thomas Payne Euro Camper Recliner is a fantastic option for RVers who need to save on weight and space but still want a recliner.

The design is almost exactly the same as the IKEA chair we had in our travel trailer. The only difference is it’s on a swivel and has a reclining backrest and a footrest.

Lightweight

  • Not Great For Large People
  • Low Weight Capacity

4. RecPro Charles RV Euro Chair

The RecPro Charles Collection RV Euro Recliner is their version of this popular lightweight camper chair.

Much like the Thomas Payne reviewed above it uses two curved wooden legs for support instead of a heavy metal frame.

This euro recliner also sits on a metal swivel base and can turn 360 degrees. It uses a lever on the bottom cushion to release the recline mechanism and there are two recline positions.

It’s a little heavier than the other RV euro chair weighing 50 lbs and there is no stated weight capacity.

When in the upright position it measures 40 inches tall, 28 inches wide, and 34 inches deep. When in the first recline position it will be 40 inches long and 52 inches long in the second, full recline position.

It needs at least 13 inches of space from the base to the wall in order to fully recline.

The version linked to above is upholstered with soft fabric in a light brown color.

There is also a faux leather option (click to view on Amazon) that comes in multiple colors and has the same specs and the fabric one.

The RecPro Charles RV Euro Chair is another awesome lightweight RV recliner that doesn’t take up a lot of space but is very comfortable.

5. Homall Recliner Chair

The first four chairs in this review are made for RVs which mostly means they are a little smaller in size and lightweight. Not all regular recliners will work in an RV or even fit in one but there are a few out there.

The Homall recliner is your basic budget chair. It’s not made to be big or heavy duty but those features are what make it perfect for RV use.

It’s measures 38.6 inches tall, 27.6 inches wide, and 35.8 inches deep. It’s not that far off from an RV recliner.

When fully reclined it can be up to 64 inches long.

It weighs only 57 lbs even though it’s still made with a steel frame inside.

The weight capacity is 265 lbs.

It’s upholstered with vinyl faux leather that’s easy to clean and fairly durable. The padding used is high density sponge that’s soft but resilient.

There are multiple color options in the faux leather.

Instead of sitting on the metal frame the Hommel has 4 plastic feet like normal home furniture.

This makes it a little more difficult to mount to the floor but if you find the right spot for it you shouldn’t have to secure it to the floor at all.

Most regular recliners are too heavy and big for campers, but the Homall Recliner Chair isn’t.

Sure it’s just a very basic and affordable recliner but that’s the kind of thing you are looking for in RV furniture.

It’s a great choice if you aren’t a full time camper but you want something comfortable to sit in during your weekend camping trips.

  • Easy To Clean Vinyl
  • Multiple Color Options
  • Budget Friendly
  • No 360 Swivel

6. GDFStudio Mid-Century Recliner

This isn’t your everyday camper furniture, but the GDFStudio mid-century recliner is going to make a newly remodeled RV look fantastic.

A full sized recliner is going to be too heavy for an RV. So the only other options are the budget friendly chairs like the one reviewed above or smaller midback recliners like this one.

Since weight is one of the most important things when looking for irregular RV furniture I’ll get right to it.

This recliner weighs 57 lbs, which isn’t too bad for the size and quality.

The weight capacity is 300 lbs.

When in the closed, upright position it measures 38 inches tall, 27.25 inches wide, and 34.25 inches deep.

When fully reclined it’s 56 inches long. It only has one recline position and the footrest is kind of small but it’s still more comfortable than a straight back chair when you want to sit back and relax after a fun day out in nature.

There is no wall hugger design so you will need some space in the back for it to recline.

It sits on tall wooden legs and is upholstered with 100% polyester fabric that is durable and stain resistant.

The GDFStudio Mid-Century Recliner may not be the obvious choice when looking for a comfortable RV chair but it’s a great way to mix things up and possibly match more modern interior decoration.

It could be bolted to the floor using L brackets or just placed in the corner during travel.

  • Modern Design

small travel trailer with camper recliner outside

What To Look For In An RV Recliner

When I first started looking at recliners for my travel trailer I had no idea how heavy even a small recliner could be.

Many are over 100 lbs which is just too much weight to be pushing around inside a camper.

In this camper recliner review, the heaviest chair is 88 lbs, which is heavy but it’s also the biggest option.

There are other more lightweight options as well that use different designs to make a comfortable recliner that’s easy to transport.

Even the non RV specific recliners in this review are still lightweight and will be easy to move around inside a camper.

Non-Powered vs Powered

Even if you mostly camp connected to power I still recommend getting a manual recliner over a powered one.

Powered recliners will only work when connected to shore power or a generator in a camper and you don’t want your fancy recliner to be just a regular chair because you don’t have power.

It’s surprising how hard it can be to find a non-powered recliner but most RV recliners are manual and so are all the recliners in this review.

The 360 swivel comes in handy more than you would think in an RV. It’s great if you have your camper recliner in front of a window.

You can turn around and watch the sunrise then turn back around to visit with family.

It’s also great for when you want to put the backrest out because you can just turn so you are angled away from the wall to give the backrest space to extend out.

Swivel recliners often have a heavy base which will help keep the RV chair in place during travel.

A wall hugger recliner uses a special design that pushes the chair out instead of back when reclining.

They require a lot less space behind the chair which helps save room.

Space is something a lot of campers don’t have a lot of which means using a wall hugger recliner that can sit close to a wall is going to be really helpful.

My Choice For Best Camper Recliner

RecPro Charles Wall Hugger RV Recliner

Even though it’s the heaviest RV recliner in this review I still choose the Recpro Wall Hugger Recliner as my top pick.

The number one reason is the wall hugger design.

Having to slide chairs around inside a camper just to be able to use them fully is going to get old really quick. I think it’s better to get something that can stay put and not take up a ton of space.

I also like how padded it is. Many RV recliners are pretty slim but the RecPro Recliner has a lot of soft foam everywhere.

It’s going to be the closest thing to the recliner you have at home and it’s a great way to get stay comfortable while camping.

Frequently Asked Questions About RV Recliners

Can you put a regular recliner in an rv.

If there’s room for it, and you aren’t going over the total weight capacity of your RV then yes, you can put a regular recliner in an RV.

Regular recliners are normally just a bit bigger, and heavier than RV recliners. But if you can fit it through the small door of your camper and have space for it then you’re good to go.

Can I replace my RV couch with recliners?

Yes. But the next question is, how hard will it be to remove the RV couch?

Many RVs and trailers have sofas that are just sitting in place. They can normally be removed pretty easily and if this is the case for you replacing the couch with a camper recliner should be easy.

Some RV couches are built into the slide or wall of the RV. Sometimes they are used to cover other camper parts like a freshwater tank or plumbing.

If this is the case it might be a little more difficult to replace your RV couch with recliners.

With that being said most RV furniture can be removed even if it takes a little work. Even dinettes aren’t that hard to unscrew from the walls and floor.

They normally even have carpeting or flooring underneath them which makes it easy to just take them out and have your camper still looking good.

Before you start removing the original RV furniture in your camper just take a look underneath everything to make sure there’s nothing important being covered by the couch or dinette.

Usually, there isn’t but it’s better to check and make sure before you purchase a new RV recliner.

Are RV couches bolted down?

If the RV couch is built into a slide out or being used to cover something like a freshwater tank, water pump, or plumbing then it’s most likely bolted to either the wall or the floor.

This is most common in small motorhomes and travel trailers that don’t have a lot of space.

Most of the time in 5th-wheels and large travel trailers the couches are not bolted down. They don’t normally bolt down RV recliners even since their weight is enough to keep them from moving around during travel.

How do you secure an RV recliner?

If you want to be extra careful and secure your RV recliner for travel you have a few options.

You can either bolt it permanently to the floor or install anchor points you can put a strap or bungee through to secure the recliner to the wall or floor during travel.

If you bolt it to the floor you can use things like L-brackets (click to view on Amazon) to secure the feet.

The downside to this method is you won’t be able to move the RV recliner at all once it’s in place. You will have to make sure it’s far enough away from the wall to be able to recline and also not in the way when you put the slide outs in for travel.

Installing secure anchor points you can use to strap or bungee the camper recliner is my favorite method.

Being able to move the recliners out of the way or to a new spot is a nice option to have and you may end up wanting to do it more than you think you will.

D-ring tie downs (click to view on Amazon) can be installed on the floor or walls.

Make sure you secure them to the wall studs since RV wall paneling is just thin sheets of plywood that won’t be able to hold a recliner very well.

Once you have a good anchor point you can use bungee cords (click to view on Amazon) or tie down straps (click to view on Amazon)  to secure the camper recliners in place for travel.

  • 38 minutes read

Living and traveling in your RV doesn’t require sacrificing all of the comforts of your regular home. After a long day of recreating outdoors, one of the best RV recliners gives you a comfortable place to kick back and put your feet up.

It’s also a great place to relax while reading your favorite book or catching up on your favorite Netflix shows.

The problem with older camper recliners is that their cushions often end up developing soft spots that make them uncomfortable and bad for your spine. A lack of a comfortable place to sit in your camper will most likely dissuade you from taking more trips.

Even if your primary goal for RV traveling is to spend most of your time outside your rig, you’ll still need a place to kick back and relax after a long day in the sun.

Unfortunately, RV recliners aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution. But we’ve thoroughly canvassed the market to bring you the best camper recliner options whatever you are looking for a small rv recliner, swivel recliner or wall hugger recliners for your RV.

And be sure to read through our comprehensive Buying Guide to learn how to choose the best motorhome recliner for your specific rig and needs.

1. Best Overall RV Recliner: THOMAS PAYNE RV Modular Theater Seating Right Hand Recliner

Thomas Payne Right Hand Recliner - Seismic Series (Grantland Doeskin) 30" x 38" x 40"

If you’re looking for an excellent recliner that will fit most modern RVs and offers a variety of comfort features, the Thomas Payne 759238 Seismic Series Right Hand Recliner is our choice for the best overall option.

The polyester upholstery on this rv recliner chairmakes it super easy to clean and the right-handed armrest offers its own beverage holder.

The beverage holder even has LED lighting around the rim so that you’re not awkwardly searching for it while you’re trying to keep your attention on a particularly exciting action scene on your TV!

There’s also LED lighting around the base of the rv recliner chair frame so that it’s more visible in the evenings. For someone that has plenty of chunks out of his shins from running into RV chairs in the dark, I particularly appreciate this feature.

But this camper recliner also offers a power reclining mode and a host of extra features that will make it tough to get up once you sit down.

It has a heated seat function that’s great for camping in colder climates and it also has a massage chair function for breaking up sore muscle tissue after a long day of hiking or mountain biking. It’s also worth mentioning that it boasts dimensions of 30” x 38” x 40” and a reclined depth of 65.5”.

You’ll also need a minimum of four inches of wall clearance to effectively install this camper recliner and you should be careful to note that it can only fit through RV entry doors with a minimum width of 26 inches.

Things We Like

  • Polyester Upholstery: Makes it very easy to clean.
  • Power Reclining: No need to recline it manually.
  • Extra Features: Comes with heated seat and massage chair features.
  • LED Lighting: Makes it stylish and visible at night.

Things We Don’t Like

  • Right Hand Bias: This may not be the best recliner for lefties or in RV locations that don’t have a lot of space for a right-hand recliner.
  • Fit: Make sure your RV door is at least 26 inches wide so that you can get this recliner inside.

2. Best Recliner Two-Pack: RecPro Charles 2 set Swivel Glider RV Recliner

RecPro Set of 2 Charles Collection | 30" Swivel Glider RV Recliner | RV Living Room (Slideout) Chair | RV Furniture | Glider Chair | Putty

If you’re looking for a recliner two-pack so that you and your favorite RV adventure partner both have a comfortable place to relax in the evenings, the RecPro Charles Collection Set of 2 30” Swivel Recliners is the best choice.

These recliners are available in a variety of color schemes and they’re finished with durable polyurethane material. This material makes them super easy to vacuum or even wipe clean with water and a light detergent.

These rv swivel recliners will come in two separate boxes and each can be assembled in less than five minutes. Because they’ll arrive broken down, you won’t have to worry about whether or not they’ll fit into your RV door in order to complete their installation.

They will, however, require a bit more assembly than some other designs. That being said, they measure 37” x 30” x 39” (length x width x height) and feature a manual reclining lever on the left and right-hand sides of the recliners, respectively.

They are best installed in an RV with a minimum of 12 inches of clearance between the recliner back and the wall. This extra space will allow them to recline to their full extent without hitting or scratching your RV walls.

Additionally, the 24-inch diameter base on these recliners is easy to secure to your RV floor. Once it’s in place, it allows each recliner to spin a full 360 degrees, as well as rock back-and-forth to lull yourself to sleep.

  • Two-Pack: Nobody will be left without a comfortable recliner!
  • Polyurethane Material: Makes them super easy to wipe clean.
  • Fit: You shouldn’t have to worry about whether or not these recliners will fit through your RV door.
  • Swivel Function: These recliners can spin a full 360 degrees.
  • Clearance Required: These swivel recliners require a minimum of 12 inches of clearance.
  • Assembly Required: These recliners don’t arrive fully assembled but should take no more than five minutes (each) to put together.

3. Best Euro Chair Recliners: RecPro Charles 28″ RV Euro Chair Recliner

RecPro Charles 28" RV Euro Chair Recliner Modern Design RV Furniture (2, Mahogany)

If you’re a fan of the Euro chair recliner style, it’s going to be hard to beat this set of two RecPro Charles Collection 28” RV Euro Chair Recliners. They have a lightweight and minimal design that won’t take up too much space in your rig while also giving your entire floor plan a more open feel.

These small rv recliners are also very lightweight at 50 pounds apiece. You won’t find many lighter options out there, which makes them much easier to maneuver as you’re getting them in place to install in your RV.

You’ll be able to choose from four different color schemes and these recliners come with all the hardware that you’ll need for a successful installation. They require a minimum clearance of at least 13 inches from the closest wall in order to recline fully.

Each recliner measures 27” x 34” x 40” (width x depth x height) and offers a maximum recline length of 57 inches. They do also offer a half-reclined position with a reclined length of 47 inches, however.

They come with all of the hardware you’ll need for a successful installation and include a tension rod for the reclining mechanism. This means they are manual recliners that have a small lever on the side that you’ll use to activate the reclining motion.

  • Minimal Design: This can make your entire RV’s floor plan feel less crowded.
  • Lightweight: Each recliner weighs just 50 pounds.
  • Multiple Positions: Choose from two different recline positions.
  • Hardware Included: They come with everything you’ll need to install in your RV.
  • Minimum Clearance: These recliners will need more clearance than some of the others on our list.
  • Seat Size: These are relatively smaller recliners, with a seat width of 20 inches and depth of 20.5 inches.

4. Best Small recliner for camper: Giantex Power Lift RV Chair Recliner with Remote Control

Giantex Power Lift Chair Recliner for Elderly Soft and Warm Fabric, with Remote Control for Gentle Motor Living Room Furniture, Chocolate

Those of you that need to replace your old RV recliner but don’t have the largest budget to do so should look into the Giantex Power Lift Chair Recliner. This is the most affordable option on our list and it still includes extra features that other, higher-priced recliners can’t offer.

It’s the first recliner on our list that offers a power lift function. This means that the chair literally lifts up to help you stand upright with minimal exertion. And it can also help you sit back down without causing extra strain on your back and legs.

The entire chair is also operated with a two-button remote control. The reclining feature can be stopped and locked into any position from vertical to nearly 180-degrees flat. This gives you the ability to adjust it to find your perfect position of comfort, which is likely to change every day.

It’s also made of high-quality fabric plus a high-density sponge material to make it extra soft and comfortable. This material also doesn’t hold unpleasant odors like the materials used in some other recliners are prone to do.

Additionally, the Giantex recliner measures 31” x 36” x 40.5” (width x depth x height), and the seat dimensions measure 20 inches wide by 20.5 inches deep. It does require a rated voltage input of 55 watts for proper operation, so this recliner may require some more electrical installation than is required of other recliner chairs.

  • Power Lift: Helps you get out of the chair gently and with less strain on your back.
  • Remote Control: This allows you to control the lift and reclining motion with the push of a button.
  • Highly Adjustable: Can be reclined to a large number of positions for maximum comfort.
  • Fabric: It’s made of high-quality fabric that won’t degrade or begin to smell over time.
  • Assembly Required: Because it includes electronic functionality, this recliner will need to be plugged in for maximum functionality.
  • Size: This recliner is going to take up more space in your RV than some of our other models.

5. Best wall hugger recliners for rv: RecPro Charles Double Wall Hugger Loveseat Recliner for rV

RecPro Charles Collection | 65" RV Hide A Bed Loveseat | Memory Foam Mattress | RV Sleeper Sofa | Pull Out Couch | RV Furniture | RV Loveseat | RV Living Room (Slideout) Furniture | Putty

If you’re interested in replacing your existing couch or RV sofa bed with a space saving zero wall recliner, the RecPro Charles Collection 67” Double RV Zero Wall recliner is the best option for double seating with plenty of space and customizability for each person.

In the center console of this zero wall recliner, each person will have access to his or her own beverage holder. And the armrest is extra wide so that you don’t have to fight for elbow space like you’re crammed into an airplane.

This RV Zero Wall reclining loveseat is made with faux leather upholstery with a polyurethane finish. That finish makes it resistant to stains and spills and also means that you can easily wipe it down with a wet cloth when it gets a little dusty.

Unlike some of the camper recliners on our list that need to sit more than 12 inches from the closest wall in order to function properly, this model requires a minimum clearance of just three inches. This is due to the recliner’s space-saving, zero wall recliner design.

In total, the recliner measures 67” x 39” x 37” (width x height x depth) when you include the armrests. The recliner’s “hard” dimensions, however, are closer to 63.75” x 36” x 39”.

This extra width makes it a better option for replacing a full couch or RV sofa bed, rather than as a replacement for a single RV recliner.

  • Two Seats: Gives each person the ability to recline (or not recline) to their personal comfort level.
  • Center Console: Includes two beverage holders and a double-wide armrest.
  • Faux Leather Upholstery: Gives it a stylish appeal while making it easy to clean.
  • Zero Wall Recliners: Require a minimum of just three inches of wall clearance.
  • Size: This recliner will require more space to install than a single recliner chair.
  • Price: Perhaps because of its larger size, this is one of the more expensive RV recliners on our list.

6. Best Theater Seat Recliner: Camper Comfort RV Theater Seat Recliner

Camper Comfort 58" Wall Hugger Reclining RV Theater Seats | Double Recliner RV Sofa | RV Couch | Wall Hugger Recliner | RV Theater Seating | RV Furniture (Powered, Sand)

If you’re in search of a recliner that allows you and your RV partner to cuddle on colder nights, the Camper Comfort 58” RV Theater Seat Recliner is the best option on our list for couples that don’t want to have to sit separately to watch their favorite shows.

Single recliners are cool (I guess!) if you and your partner like to customize your own seating space when relaxing at the end of the night.

But if you’re at all interested in cuddling with your RV partner (for warmth or comfort), then a theater seat is the way to go.

This particular wall hugger loveseat recliner model measures 58” x 35” x 37” (width x depth x height). It offers a maximum reclining length of 64 inches and will fit through RV doors with a minimum width of 24 inches and height of 58 inches.

It offers two cup holders on either armrest and a manual reclining mechanism on either end of the recliner. These mechanisms allow each person to individually adjust their footrest for their desired comfort, rather than having to always agree on whether you want the footrest up or down!

  • Theater Seat: Allows couples to cuddle together on colder evenings (or just in general!).
  • Easy To Clean: The linen fabric of this recliner makes it super easy to clean.
  • Individual Footrests: Each person can adjust his or her footrest individually.
  • Cup Holders: There is a single cup holder on each armrest of this recliner.
  • Light Color: May show dark pet hair and dirt more than other recliners.
  • Entry Requirements: Make sure your RV door is large enough to fit this recliner through before you buy it!

7. Best Power Lift Recliner: Bonzy Home Power Lift Recliner Chair For RV

Bonzy Home Fabric Power Lift Recliner Chair for Elderly with Side Pocket,Single Sofa with Remote Control Recliner Chair for Home Theater Seating (Smoke Gray)

If you’re set on the fact that you want (or need!) a small camper recliner with a power lift feature, check out the Bonzy Home Fabric Power Lift Recliner Chair. This recliner has dual armrests on either side and includes a single-button remote to control the power lift feature.

The power lift itself makes it much easier to get up and sit down without placing extra strain on your legs and back. This is a great small recliner if you’re recovering from surgery or have any disabilities that make it difficult to sit or stand without an assist.

It’s made of natural cotton fabric that’s breathable and durable enough to handle wear and tear. That breathability reduces overheating on warmer days and the natural cotton won’t harm your skin, so it’s great for folks that have allergies to some unnatural fabrics.

This recliner doesn’t quite recline to a fully flat position, but it does go back to an angle of 140 degrees for napping without any pressure on your spine. It also has a power motor that operates really quietly, so you won’t need to worry about waking up your partner if he or she is napping in another recliner right next to yours!

  • Power Lift: Assists you in sitting down or standing up without too much strain.
  • Dual Armrests: Makes it more comfortable to relax both arms.
  • Seat Depth: This recliner has a maximum seat depth of 21 inches.
  • Quiet Operation: Won’t wake up your partner or cause annoyance when operating.
  • Hardware Required: You may need to purchase extra hardware to install this recliner in your RV.

8. Best With Ottoman: Giantex Power Lift RV Chair Recliner with Remote Control

Giantex Power Lift Chair Electric Recliner for Elderly, Adjustable Backrest Footrest, Heavy Duty Motorized Living Room Chair Sofa with Side Pocket, Remote Control, Power Lift Recliner (Black)

Those of you that prefer an RV recliner that comes with a separate ottoman should look into the Newport Taupe Swivel Recliner and Slanted Ottoman combination. It offers a minimal design that will make your RV feel less congested than it will with some of the other recliners on our list.

The ottoman that comes with this swivel recliner is slanted away from you to promote better blood flow in your legs while you’re seated. It can also be moved out of the way if you don’t want to use it, or it can be used with other chairs inside or outside of your rig.

The recliner chair itself measures 40 inches high and 30 inches wide. The depth can be adjusted from 28.5 inches up to 42 inches, which means you’ll need a minimum of 13.5 inches of clearance from the wall to the back of the recliner wherever you install it.

The entire recliner weighs less than 50 pounds and the seat itself measures 19.5” x 19.5” x 18.5” (width x depth x height). The material on the recliner and the ottoman is a taupe bonded leather, which is easy to wipe clean and resistant to stains. The base of both items is also solid wood with a walnut finish.

The swivel recliner can spin a full 360 degrees for maximum versatility and the recliner goes back up to 45 degrees. And the ottoman’s total dimensions measure 19.5” x 18” x 15” (width x depth x height).

  • Separate Ottoman: Allows you to move it around as needed.
  • Minimal Design: It will make your RV’s living area feel more spacious.
  • Price: This is one of the more affordable recliners on our list.
  • Lightweight: The recliner weighs just 48.7 pounds.
  • Seating Area: This recliner has one of the smaller seats of the models on our list.
  • Difficult Assembly: Some users reported that this recliner is a bit tough to assemble.

9. Best Extra-Large Recliner: Ashley Signature Design Power Lift Oversized RV Recliner

Signature Design by Ashley Yandel Faux Leather Electric Power Lift Recliner for Elderly, Brown

If you’re in search of an extra-large recliner, the Signature Design By Ashley Yandel Power Lift Oversized Recliner Saddle is an excellent choice. This recliner features generous sizing and also a remote-operated power lift that makes it easier to stand up or sit down.

It actually includes a dual motor lift that makes it able to lift heavier weights. The thick cushions on the seat and seat back provide exceptional comfort and the faux leather upholstery makes this recliner soft on your skin and easy to clean.

The recliner measures 35” x 40” x 42.5” (width x depth x height) and it reclines to a full length of 69 inches. This extra length means that you’ll need a rather large clearance of 16 inches from the wall to the back of the chair to successfully install this recliner.

And speaking of installing it, this recliner comes with all of the tools, hardware, and instructions you need for a successful installation. It fits through RV doors with a minimum width of 30 inches and the fully reclined height of this chair is just over 32 inches.

  • Generous Size: The seat has a depth of 21 inches and a width of 19 inches.
  • Power Lift: Gives you an assist sitting down or standing back up.
  • Ea sy Assembly: All of the tools, hardware, and instructions you need to assemble and secure this recliner are included.
  • Clearance Required: This recliner needs a minimum clearance of 16 inches.
  • Weight: Because of its larger size, this is one of the heavier recliners on our list.

Things To Consider When Purchasing RV Recliners

Now that you’ve looked through nine of the best RV recliners on the market today, there’s still a big looming question: how do you narrow down your choices?

Fortunately for you, that’s exactly the question we’ll address in this Buying Guide!

RV Recliner Types

There are two main types of recliners that you’ll be able to choose from. They are standalone recliners and double recliners.

Let’s start by discussing some of the advantages and disadvantages of each.

1: Standalone Recliners

As you might imagine, standalone recliners feature a single seat. They’re great for replacing the single seats in your RV, but they won’t provide a place for multiple people to sit comfortably.

Because of this, standalone recliners are typically a better option for RVs that have other seating options.

But they can also be a reasonable choice for solo travelers and they are more adaptable than double recliners because of their size.

These recliners tend to be much smaller than their double recliner counterparts, which makes them suitable for installing in multiple different locations in your RV.

It also makes it easier to move around during the installation process.

2: Double Recliners

Double recliners have space for you and your partner to relax and recline at the end of a long day of adventuring.

Some of these recliners offer two separate chairs with a center console between and others have a ‘theater-seat’ design that allows you and your partner to snuggle together.

This recliner type is much larger than the standalone type, which means you’ll need more space to install it inside your rig.

This also makes them heavier and more difficult to move around during that installation phase.

But once you have a double recliner installed, you can seat up to three people on some of them.

So this recliner type is a better choice for RVing couples, families, or rigs that don’t really have much else in the way of additional seating.

Some double recliners can even be set up or used as a sofa or sofa bed if you have extra folks staying in your RV temporarily.

The only other downside of double recliners is that they tend to be more expensive than standalone recliners because of their extra size.

You also need to make sure that the material your recliner is made of matches the climate where you spend most of your time in your RV.

While leather can be one of the more comfortable and durable materials for RV recliners, it’s not a great material for hotter and humid climates.

If you mostly RV camp in hotter climates, you should look into a natural cotton fabric or something else that’s a little more breathable.

But if you regularly camp in colder areas, leather is a great choice for a recliner’s upholstery material.

Many of the best RV recliners these days are made with faux leather that’s still soft and durable but isn’t quite as expensive as leather.

This brings the cost of your recliner down while still maintaining the stylish appeal of leather.

When you’re buying an RV accessory that’s all about getting a new place to relax at the end of the day, comfort is king.

The material that your recliner is made of will greatly impact its comfort. Look for something that has a soft material like natural cotton or faux leather for the upholstery.

But you should also look at the size of the seat in a given recliner and the size of the cushions in that seat.

A recliner with larger cushions will generally offer more comfort and a larger seat size gives you more room to relax.

When evaluating the size of a recliner’s seat, make sure you pay attention to the seat’s depth and width.

These two dimensions are the most important to consider when evaluating whether or not a recliner’s seat will provide the size and comfort you desire.

Adaptability

The best RV recliners are adaptable to a variety of situations. For our money, swivel recliners are the most adaptable options out there these days because they can spin a full 360 degrees around.

This allows you to use them for whatever purpose you so desire in your rig.

Additionally, you should pay attention to how many reclined positions a given recliner offers.

The best options out there can be reclined all the way to a fully flat position and can also stop at any position between fully flat and fully upright.

This gives you the most adaptability to find a comfortable position. And this is important if you’re going to be using your recliner for various purposes such as napping, reading, watching TV, and anything else you like to do in your free time.

Aesthetics And Style

Matching the color and style of your new recliner with your RV’s interior decor is also an important choice.

After all, you don’t want to choose something that’s going to severely contrast with the style you already have going in your rig.

While a recliner’s design might not necessarily reflect its quality, it’s good to like what you look at every time you glance at your new RV recliner.

So you’ll want to choose a model that has multiple color schemes to choose from and also reflects your style preference.

Additionally, the design of your recliner can have an impact on the overall feel of your RV’s living area.

For example, a recliner with a more bulky and blocky design will make your RV’s interior feel a bit more crowded.

On the other hand, a recliner with a minimal design can make your rig’s entire floor plan feel more spacious.

Size And Weight

At the end of the day, the recliner you choose has to fit where you intend to install it.

For reference, it’s good to measure the dimensions of your old recliner so that you have a decent place to start when deciding on the size of your new recliner.

While you might choose to find a new recliner with the exact same dimensions as your old one, keep in mind that you can also go bigger (or smaller) depending on your preference.

If you are thinking about getting a bigger recliner, you’ll need to pay attention to the amount of clearance that your new recliner will need.

Clearance refers to the distance the recliner needs to be from the wall in order to fully recline properly.

So you’ll need to add that clearance measurement to the recliner’s depth measurement to know the total amount of space you need to install it without having it stick out too far into the middle of your RV’s floor.

In addition, a recliner’s weight should be considered when you’re thinking about how easy (or difficult) it will be to move the recliner into your RV in order to install it.

Some of the double recliners and theater seat recliners on our list weigh nearly 200 pounds.

A recliner of this size is going to require at least two people to move into a position to install.

On the other hand, the more minimal designs on our list can weigh less than 50 pounds, which can more easily be moved if you need to install them on your own.

Ease Of Assembly

One of the hardest parts about getting a new RV recliner is just getting it inside of your rig. Some recliners come fully assembled and others come in pieces that you’ll need to put together inside of your RV.

If you choose a recliner that comes fully assembled, make sure that your RV door is wide enough to fit the recliner through it. Otherwise, you’ll minimize your assembly time but you’ll be stuck with a recliner that doesn’t fit into your rig.

If you’re worried about avoiding that issue, you can look into a recliner that needs to be assembled before you can secure it to the floor of your rig. While this will eliminate the issue of having a recliner that doesn’t fit through your RV door, it will increase your recliner assembly time.

Bonus Features

The last consideration you need to take into account is the extra features that come along with some of the best RV recliners. Examples of these features include a power lift, heated seat, massage chair, LED lighting, and beverage holders.

The most basic RV recliners don’t include many of these bonus features because they offer a more minimal design. But a power lift feature is essential for older RVers that struggle to stand up or sit down without assistance.

And those other bonus features will contribute to a more comfortable experience sitting in your recliner. Ultimately, the bonus features that matter the most to you will depend on your personal preference and your budget, because these bonus features will increase the overall price of your RV recliner.

So, Which Is Best RV recliner?

Our choice for the best overall RV recliner is the Thomas Payne 759238 Seismic Series Right Hand Recliner because it offers the most comfortable features of arguably any other recliner on our list. Power reclining makes it easy to lean back with the push of a button and a heated seat function warms you up on cold evenings.

These recliners also feature a massage chair function to break up muscular tension while you’re concentrating on who’s winning the game!

But if you’re interested in a two-pack of recliners so that you and your RV adventure buddy can both relax in style at the end of a long day, look no further than the set of two RecPro Charles Collection 30 Swivel Recliners.

These recliners arrive broken down so you don’t have to worry about whether or not they’ll fit through your RV door. But they each take less than five minutes to set up and they can swivel a full 360 degrees of maximum versatility.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re seeking to replace your RV recliner, picking a new one is just the tip of the iceberg.

In addressing the most frequently asked questions about RV recliners, we’ll provide some important information you should know about removing an old recliner, installing a new one, and more.

What are RV recliners made of?

Every model has its own unique construction and design. But, for the most part, the majority of RV recliners are made of some sort of leather material.

Leather is one of the most desirable materials for RV recliners because it’s durable. It also has a notable visual appeal.

What are the best RV recliner brands?

There are obviously a number of different brands out there that are dedicated to making high-quality recliners.

You won’t go wrong with any of the recliners on our list as long as you make sure you have space for them and the ability to install them correctly.

That being said, we’d identify RecPro, Thomas Payne, Giantex, and Camper Comfort as four of the best RV recliner brands on the market today.

How to remove an old RV recliner?

The process of removing an old RV recliner will largely depend on the exact model that you want to get rid of. Most designs have some sort of metal or wooden base that secures to your RV floor or walls using bolts or screws.

Identifying how your old recliner is secured is the first step to properly removing it. As a general rule, most recliners should be able to be removed carefully and without force. If you find yourself having to break or use excessive force to get something free, you probably need to step back and re-evaluate your approach.

In some cases, the bolts that hold your old recliner in place may have nuts that are only accessible via your RV’s underneath storage compartments. If you find that this is the case for your recliner, you’ll need a second set of hands to keep the nuts in place as you unscrew the bolts.

If you’re having trouble figuring out how your old recliner is secured, it’s always a good idea to consult your RV’s owner’s manual. In some cases, you may even find a quality YouTube video that walks you through the process of removing an old RV recliner.

But if you can’t find what you’re looking for in either of those two places (or you can’t find your owner’s manual altogether), I’d suggest calling the manufacturer for advice on how to best remove your old recliner.

How to install a new RV recliner?

The process of installing a new RV recliner will largely depend on the model you select. For this reason, we suggest getting familiar with how your old recliner was held in place before you choose a new recliner to install in its place.

To make your life easier, you should find a new RV recliner that uses the same size bolts, screws, nuts, and other hardware as your old recliner.

This will make the installation as smooth and easy as possible because it will remove the need for buying any additional hardware or having to make any “customizations” to your rig.

When it comes down the exact step-by-step instructions for installing a new RV recliner, however, you should always be careful to consult the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Failure to follow their suggestions can cause an insecure installation, which may lead to an uncomfortable recliner or, worse, the entire thing coming loose while you’re driving down the road.

How to clean and care for your RV recliner?

Again, the cleaning and care instructions for your specific recliner will depend on the manufacturer. While most recliners can be vacuumed or wiped down with water, some are particularly sensitive to certain chemical cleaners, which can cause discoloration and other issues.

Consulting the manufacturer’s recommendations for how to clean and care for your recliner is the best strategy we can offer. That being said, it will also benefit you to set a regular time (maybe every month or so) to address the state of your recliner.

This will help you stay on top of regular cleaning and, ultimately, improve the lifespan of the new RV recliner you choose.

At the end of the day, sitting on an uncomfortable recliner is just about as bad as lying down on a super hard mattress. You deserve somewhere comfortable to relax in your RV and you need to find a recliner that falls squarely into your personal “Goldilocks Zone!”

As someone who didn’t always prioritize comfort in the renovation of their RV, I can personally say that I’d definitely include a more comfortable seating space in my next RV renovation.

We hope that our tips and advice have been helpful and we wish you the best of luck finding the right RV recliner for your rig!

RV Recliner Buying Considerations

There are a few similarities between finding traditional furniture for an apartment or home and picking new furniture for your RV. Knowing the space’s size and layout and the best fabrics for the expected usage level is important for both. Yet, when finding a recliner chair for your RV, you have to consider factors that don’t come into play when furnishing a stationary home.

There are four major areas you need to consider when narrowing your choices for RV furniture: fabric, size, weight, and available features. Let’s take a look at each, why they are important when considering a recliner chair for an RV, and the different options available.

The first thing anyone will notice about your furniture is its appearance, and when it comes to that, your fabric choice is key. But beyond feel, color, and pattern, the fabric also impacts the maintenance and longevity of your RV furniture. You will encounter a few different materials when researching recliner chairs for RVs: natural leather, synthetic leather, and fabric.

Natural leather is known for its durability and classic appeal, but it is also expensive and can require regular maintenance. Because leather is made from tanned animal hide, it retains some of the same qualities. It has the elasticity to resist tears and puncture damage but is prone to scratches.

The ease with which leather can scratch is important to keep in mind if you are traveling with pets or small children. When accidents are almost certain to happen, easy cleaning and durability should be high on your list of priorities.

Due to its expense, maintenance needs, and comparatively hefty weight, natural leather can be difficult to find in standard RV chairs. If you decide to go with natural leather, you may need to invest in custom upholstery.

Synthetic leathers are lighter and generally less expensive than natural leather while still offering the same general look and feel. Synthetics don’t have the same puncture and tear resistance, but they are far more scratch-resistant.

Not all synthetic leathers are of the same quality, though. Most synthetic leathers fall into one of three categories: bonded leather, polyvinyl chloride, or polyurethane. You will rarely see them listed under those terms, though, so unless specified, we suggest researching brand names for different faux leathers to see which category they fall under.

Faux leathers made with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are the most durable overall. Yet, they are also expensive and stiff, meaning they take time to “break-in.”

Polyurethane (PU) faux leather is slightly less durable than polyvinyl chloride but still quite durable overall. A lower average price and a look and feel closer to natural leather has made this newer option popular.

Bonded leathers are created with a backing made from leather scraps in a process similar to how wood pulp is made into paper. This material is later coated with polyvinyl chloride or polyurethane, creating a material with an initial appearance and feel almost identical to natural leather at a vastly lower price.

Yet, bonded leather is prone to peeling and fading, making it far less durable than the other options.

If leather or synthetic leather furniture is not for you, there are excellent upholstery fabrics available for RV chairs. Fabric remains durable and easy to clean while offering a wider array of available colors, patterns, and textures than leather, natural or synthetic. However, it will absorb moisture.

That an RV recliner chair needs to fit the space is obvious, but the amount of floor space taken up isn’t the only sizing consideration you need to take into account.

Reclining furniture requires a certain amount of clearance to recline fully. RVs also can have small doors, and some models have far less open space when “collapsed” for the road. These are things you must consider.

Take care when measuring the space available, including what is available when fully collapsed for travel if you have an expandable RV. Don’t forget to check your door clearance before searching.

Loading heavy furniture is never pleasant, but weight is an extra important factor when shopping for RV furniture. Everything that goes into your RV affects its weight, which impacts not only your gas mileage but your ability to navigate some roads and bridges.

All furniture needs structural elements, but reclining furniture also has the added weight of the reclining mechanism and the motor for powered models. Recliner chairs and other reclining furniture can weigh far more than their stationary counterparts. This is something that can cost you over time if you fail to factor it into your decision.

RVs have to pack a lot of functions into every square inch of floor space, so RV furniture capable of serving multiple functions makes for a smart purchase.

Common features of multipurpose RV furniture include hidden storage, the ability to convert into another furniture type, integrated electronics or charging stations, or something as simple as a cup holder.

What is an RV Recliner?

RV recliners are a type of comfortable chair with a backrest that tilts back allowing you to lean back and relax.

Just like their residential counterparts, they usually have a built-in extendable footrest that raises up and out as you recline back. RV recliners are lighter and smaller than bricks and mortar versions. They also often feature a swivel base and extra features such as cup holders or side tables.

Thomas Payne RV Recliner Chair Small

Thomas Payne Collection Euro Recliner Chair with Footrest

Thomas Payne Collection Euro Recliner Chair

Buy from Amazon

Created specially for the RV aftermarket, the Thomas Payne Collection combines quality, functionality, and style, as demonstrated by the Euro Recliner Chair with Footrest. Thanks to its sleek European styling and low 47-pound weight, this RV recliner is an extremely popular choice.

Available in several color options, it fits through a 26-inch door making it easy to install inside your motorhome. Simple assembly is required, although there are no instructions provided, it is very straightforward. You’ll need seven inches of wall clearance at the top and 12 inches at the bottom, with a fully reclined depth of 60 inches – a perfect replacement size for most dated RV recliners.

Made from supportive high-density foam, this recliner is very comfortable. The diamond-stitched patterned upholstery is extremely easy to keep clean, with next to no maintenance required thanks to its durable PolyHide covering. The durable wooden base adds a touch of class and allows for a 360-degree swivel, making it one highly versatile chair.

Kick back and relax, take a snooze, or watch TV. With its smooth reclining motion and incorporated pop-out footrest, this recliner is incredibly easy to operate and requires no power. Space-saving when not in use, it has an extremely functional design, not to mention the highly comfortable padded headrest, armrests, and backrest.

While this RV recliner is not the cheapest, it is a really good quality model that is specially designed to live up to the constraints of space and RV life on the road. If you’re a full-timer or just want to treat yourself to one of the best RV recliners, this one is a top choice for comfort, looks, and functionality.

RecPro Charles RV Euro Chair Recliner

RecPro Charles RV Euro Chair Recliner

For a complete RV remodel, this set of two Euro Chair Recliners from the RecPro Charles collection will instantly update your RV interior.

Thanks to their streamlined profile, these modern RV recliners are compact enough for even small motorhome alcoves with a 27-inch wide frame. Weighing just 50 pounds, they are also a lot lighter than standard recliners.

Built specifically for RVs, the Euro Chair Recliner requires just 13 inches distance from your wall to fully extend into its reclining position of 57 inches. Easy to assemble, with a power-free operation, all hardware is included. They fit through most regular RV doors and thanks to their free-standing design, allow you to create a more open living area.

With their full swivel, these RV recliners are extremely practical, making them an ideal choice for multiple applications. Use them in your dining area, then swivel round and kick back to watch a movie. Choose from four color options to best match your decor, all Euro chairs come with a classic wooden circular base for longevity and style.

Thanks to its soft Suprima faux leather covering, complete with padded armrests, headrest, and backrest, this chair is very comfortable with a good amount of support. It is also more durable than cheaper vinyl versions and easy to clean. If you are looking for a set of two RV recliners in a modern style, this is one of the top choices around.

Thomas Payne Collection Manual Pushback Recliner

Thomas Payne Manual Pushback Recliner

For a more traditional style, check out the Heritage Series Manual Pushback Recliner designed by RV furniture specialists at the Thomas Payne Collection. This comfortable RV recliner measures approximately 27.5 inches wide and should fit through most RV doors before assembly.

If you are purchasing this model to replace existing fixed seating, bear in mind that it requires 17 inches of wall clearance at the top and 17 inches at the bottom in order to fully recline. Unlike many other RV recliners, this one reclines right back for a relaxing fully reclined depth of 63 inches.

Thanks to its supportive web suspension and high-density foam construction it is very comfortable and highly relaxing. Ideal for RVing in hot climates, the low-maintenance Cobblestone Creek upholstery won’t stick to your skin, unlike vinyl versions. Upholstery is also a good long-lasting choice as it won’t crack or peel in the high temperatures often associated with RVing in summer.

Weighing 68 pounds, it’s a bit heavier than some ultra-light slimline models, although it’s still a good weight for your average trailer. While assembly is easy, unfortunately, there are some issues with certain models due to a change from the supplier resulting in a mismatch of the feet and the provided screws. As a result, you may need to screw in the feet on the wooden base next to where the predrilled holes are located.

This issue aside, this RV recliner is a good all-round choice if you are looking for a fixed upholstered model in a traditional closed design.

Christopher Knight Home Swivel Recliner

Christopher Knight Home Swivel Recliner

Another great fabric upholstered recliner for your RV, the Christopher Knight Home Swivel Recliner is both compact and lightweight.

Thanks to its contemporary styling, it’s a popular choice to update a tired RV interior. What’s more, aside from the light gray and beige shade fabric options, it’s also available in a stunning teal or pink blush to provide your rig with a touch of modernity and a pop of color.

Measuring 25 inches wide, it will fit through most narrow RV doors before assembly. All instructions and tools needed to put it together are included, ideal if you’re not very experienced at DIY. Weight-wise, it’s on a par with a lot of specialist RV versions, weighing just 69 pounds making it easy to get into place.

In order to recline fully, you’ll need around 16 inches of space between this recliner and your wall. So, while it is a compact model, you may need to pull it out before use. Thanks to its full swivel and gliding motion, it’s a really versatile model that is well suited to RV life. Simply use your body weight to push back and the integrated footrest comes out and the chair reclines.

With its 100% polyester fabric covering, this chair will not peel or crack in the heat and your legs won’t stick to it in summer. All in all, it’s a great compact contemporary-styled model that works well in small spaces, making it a great choice to update your RV sitting area.

ACME Arcadia Recliner

ACME Arcadia Recliner

The Arcadia Recliner by Acme could be a good budget option for your RV seating upgrade.

A compact version of a traditional grandpa style recliner, this model is easy on the eye with a comfortable form and relaxed styling. As this model is wider than most standard RV recliners, measuring 35 inches wide, make sure you double-check your entry door width before you order.

Featuring a sturdy hardwood frame, this RV recliner comes with an integrated footrest. Use the side knob to lower back your seat, pull the lever to extend the footrest, and relax. While this model is easy to assemble and recline, the mechanism to close up the footrest after use can be a little stiff. Also, bear in mind that there is no swivel function.

One of the main advantages of this RV recliner is its stain-resistant microfiber upholstery making this model a great low maintenance model. It is also non-sticky to sit on in summer and won’t crack with the heat. Very comfortable, the larger overstuffed fiber-filled arms add to its appeal.

Available in beige, sage, and chocolate shades, if you are looking for a budget-priced recliner for your RV, be sure to check this one out. While it may not be quite robust enough for full timers using it every day, it is a comfortable money-saving buy for occasional use.

Flash Furniture Recliner Chair with Ottoman

Flash Furniture Recliner Chair

Stylish, comfortable, and low priced, if you are looking for a replacement RV recliner the Flash Furniture Recliner Chair with Ottoman is well worth considering.

Weighing just 54 pounds, it’s almost as lightweight as specialist RV models. However, at 33 inches wide, you may have to assemble it inside your RV to make sure it fits through your door.

Elegant, this recliner and ottoman combo certainly looks a lot more expensive than it costs, while its classic lines and neutral shade go well with any style decor. The rich mahogany-colored wooden base is sturdy and an excellent complement to the faux-leather seat. Thanks to its ball-bearing construction, you get a smooth, full swivel motion for use in any direction.

As it is an ottoman and recliner set, you can place your recliner much closer to the wall, with just seven inches of clearance required. Simply pull the lever to adjust from upright to fully reclined, you can make infinite adjustments to the reclining inclination to kick back at an angle that is most comfortable for you.

Easily spot cleaned with a damp cloth, this model is very low maintenance. While the arms, integrated headrest, and backrest are filled with ample fire retardant foam, the seat can feel a little stiff when new. What’s more, given its low weight and budget price, some of the reclining mechanism components are a little fragile, so it may not be the best choice for heavy use.

On the whole, given its great styling, easy care, and low price, this recliner is a good buy. While it’s possibly not the most durable, it’s definitely a good option to make your RV look and feel a lot newer inside.

Buyer’s Guide to Buying the Best RV Recliners

To make sure you find the very best RV recliner for your motorhome, read through our RV recliner buying guide. We’ll cover everything you’ll need to consider when upgrading your RV seating so you can make your purchase with confidence.

RV recliners are available at a wide variety of prices. Budget-priced models tend to be primarily designed for small spaces in residential homes and cost a lot less than specialist RV versions. As with a lot of furniture items, you tend to get what you pay for in terms of quality.

Our advice, if you are using your RV full time, are thinking of RVing full time, or tend to use your RV frequently, spend more and get yourself a hard wearing, top quality model. Otherwise, if you only use your RV a couple of times a year, you can easily pick up a cheaper version that will hold up just fine.

Depending upon the style and any extra features you require, you can purchase a recliner for your RV from around $200-$300. For a recliner designed for RV use that you’ll be using day in, day out, you are going to be looking at models priced around $500 and over.

Will it fit through your RV door?

RV doors can vary in size considerably, although many popular models fall in between the 26-inch to 30-inch mark. One thing is certain, before you commit to buying any large item for your RV interior, you’ll need to make sure that you can get it inside. So don’t forget to double-check your RV door width before ordering.

If you have your doubts, reach out to the manufacturer and double check the measurements. While some recliners may be a struggle to get inside, others will fit through your door easily before assembly, so don’t start putting it together outside.

To help you to make the most out of your RV recliner, multipurpose models with extra features are the best models to go for.

Cup Holder – relaxing with a hot or cold beverage is much easier with a dedicated cup holder.

USB Port – charge up your phone or tablet as you relax. A USB port gives you the chance to surf the web as you recline, without having to worry about stretching cables across your coach.

Fold Out Table – whether you want to surf the web, do a puzzle, or have a snack, a fold out table will boost your RV recliner’s functionality.

Swivel or Legs

Here you’ll really need to consider your RV layout and your current seating arrangements.

If you are upgrading from fixed seating and want more flexibility, a swivel base will allow you to comfortably relax at any angle. A lot of RVers enjoy being able to swivel round to watch a movie or round to face one another to have a meal or chat together.

However, this doesn’t mean a swivel recliner is the best choice for every RV layout. If your recliner is going to be situated in an alcove or if your layout doesn’t require you to change direction, then legs may work better for you.

Adaptability

Unlike a recliner in your bricks and mortar home, your RV recliner is likely going to be used for general sitting as well as kicking back and relaxing.

If you are not purchasing an RV specific model, you’ll have to consider how well it will adapt to life on the road. Aside from weight, size is an issue, as well as how well the internal mechanisms respond to being bounced up and down over hundreds of miles of roads.

Lightweight, compact, and durably constructed recliners with high-quality components are better suited to RV use.

While RV recliners are smaller and lighter than residential versions, this doesn’t mean they have to be less comfortable. Look for models with thick padding. High-density foam is a popular option for extra comfort, although you’ll also want to look for support as well as cushioning.

As comfort is subjective, look for a model that really meets your preferences. Some recline right back, whereas others don’t. Other options included padded headrests and armrests. If you RV in hot weather, you may find a fabric model to be more comfortable in the heat.

Just like recliners for your home, RV recliners come in a wide variety of materials.

Leather RV recliners – they may be expensive and require special care, but leather is highly durable and comfortable.

Faux-leather/synthetic RV recliners – much cheaper and free from animal parts, high-quality faux-leather RV recliners are long lasting and easy to clean. Cheaper versions can deteriorate quickly with regular use.

Cloth RV recliners – a good choice for hot climates, fabric recliners won’t stick to your legs in summer, or crack with the heat. They are also cozier in winter. Stain-resistant versions are great for families and pet owners, otherwise, spot cleaning can be tricky.

Screwing Options

Make sure that you will be able to adequately secure your RV recliner for when you’re traveling. Unless you have chosen a wall hugging version that you intend to fix into place, you will need to pull out your recliner to be able to use it fully extended on arrival at your destination.

Most RV recliners are not designed to be fixed down permanently, leaving you free to arrange them for use once you’re parked up.

Types Of RV Recliners

There are several different types of RV recliners on the market. Here are some of the most popular models available.

Standalone Recliners

Standalone RV recliners are single seats, although if you RV as a couple, likelihood is you’ll want to pick up a set of two. The advantage of two standalone models is that you have a lot more placement options.

Double Recliners

Double RV recliners take up less space than two standalones and still sit two persons. Double recliners are more like a loveseat or small sofa in design, although you can find models that resemble two individual recliners connected via a central console unit for storage and use as a table.

RV Wall Hugger Recliners

While they cost more, wall hugger RV recliners are definitely worth paying out for as they help to save space. Unlike regular recliners that require a gap of over 12 inches, you can push them up to your wall. When you want to recline, the entire unit swings forward and away from the wall, taking up less space.

RV Power recliners

If you always park up with a shore power hook-up, you may want to get yourself an RV power recliner. Deluxe RV power recliners make settling down to a movie even more comfortable. If you have any mobility issues, you’ll want to invest in an RV power lift recliner to help you to sit down, relax, and get back up unassisted.

FAQ: Best RV Recliners

When it comes to enhancing the comfort and relaxation in your RV, investing in a recliner can make all the difference. Whether you’re embarking on a cross-country road trip or enjoying a weekend camping getaway, having a cozy recliner in your RV allows you to unwind and recharge after a day of adventure.

In this section, we address some common questions that RV enthusiasts often have when it comes to choosing the best recliner for their mobile home. From the benefits of RV recliners to considerations for installation and upholstery options, we aim to provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision.

If you’re new to the world of RV recliners or simply seeking guidance on the features and factors to look for, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s explore the frequently asked questions about RV recliners and find the perfect seating solution for your RV lifestyle.

Why should I consider getting a recliner for my RV?

RV recliners provide added comfort and relaxation while on the road or during camping trips. They offer a cozy seating option that allows you to kick back and unwind after a long day of driving or exploring. Recliners are also versatile, as they can be used for seating, napping, or even as an extra bed in some cases.

What features should I look for in an RV recliner?

When choosing an RV recliner, consider factors such as size, material, comfort level, durability, and ease of installation. Look for recliners that are designed specifically for RVs, as they are typically more compact and have features like wall-hugging designs to save space. Additionally, features like adjustable footrests, cup holders, USB charging ports, and massage functions can enhance your overall comfort and convenience.

Are there different types of RV recliners available?

Yes, there are various types of RV recliners to choose from, depending on your preferences and the available space in your RV. Some common types include wall-hugger recliners, swivel recliners, rocker recliners, and theater seating recliners. Wall-hugger recliners are a popular choice for RVs, as they can be placed close to the wall without requiring much clearance space.

How do I ensure the recliner fits in my RV?

Before purchasing an RV recliner, measure the available space in your RV where you intend to place the recliner. Pay attention to the recliner’s dimensions, including its width, depth, and height when fully reclined. It’s essential to choose a recliner that fits comfortably in your RV without obstructing pathways or interfering with other furniture.

Can I install the recliner myself, or do I need professional help?

The installation process for RV recliners can vary depending on the specific model and your RV’s setup. Some recliners come pre-assembled and are relatively easy to install, requiring minimal tools and DIY skills. However, if you’re uncertain or uncomfortable with the installation process, it’s recommended to seek professional help to ensure proper installation and avoid any damage to your RV.

Are RV recliners available in different upholstery options?

Yes, RV recliners come in a variety of upholstery options to suit different preferences and styles. Common choices include leather, faux leather, fabric, and microfiber. Each option has its own advantages in terms of durability, ease of cleaning, and aesthetics. Consider factors like comfort, maintenance, and the overall interior design of your RV when selecting the upholstery material.

Can I use a residential recliner in my RV?

While it is technically possible to use a residential recliner in your RV, it’s important to note that residential recliners are often larger and bulkier compared to RV-specific recliners. They may not be designed to withstand the vibrations and movements experienced during travel, and they might not fit well in the limited space of an RV. It’s generally recommended to choose recliners specifically designed for RVs for optimal comfort and functionality.

How much should I expect to spend on an RV recliner?

The cost of RV recliners can vary depending on the brand, quality, features, and upholstery materials. Prices can range from around $200 for basic models to over $1,000 for high-end recliners with advanced features. It’s important to find a balance between your budget and the quality and features you desire, ensuring you invest in a recliner that provides comfort and durability for your RV adventures.

Remember, each RV owner’s needs and preferences may vary, so it’s essential to research and consider multiple options before making a final decision on the best RV recliner for you.

RVing and comfort are finally going hand-in-hand, and we're proud to say our recliners have something to do with it!

With different styles and sizing options to choose from, you can enjoy the comfort of a recliner sofa or chair no matter how much space you have in your rig.

Comfort in Any Space with Wall Hugger Recliners

The biggest problem with having a recliner in an RV is usually the fact that it has to be away from the wall in order to fully recline. We have the perfect solution for that! All of our sofa recliners are designed as wall hugger recliners. It only takes 3" of space for the wall hugger recliner to be able to fully recline, allowing you to enjoy all the comfort a recliner can offer without struggle and without sacrificing precious interior space. Plus, you can pull away the backs of these RV recliners for easy installation and rearrangement. Our sectional sofas can be arranged however you see fit with ease. They only take about 10 minutes to install, and then you can relax and lounge the rest o the day!

Our reclining sofas come in different sizes to fit your needs. Right now, the sizes we feature include the following:

If you're not in the market for a sofa and you're looking for more of a traditional recliner chair, we've got you covered there, too! We offer several different types of reclining chairs. Not only will they provide maximum comfort, but they can fit other functional needs, too!

zwr

Our 30" Zero Wall Hugger recliner only needs 3" of space in order to fully recline. It reclines in two positions, so you'll always be able to achieve the comfort level you're looking for. It's so much more than just a standard recliner, and when you feel the difference in comfort levels when compared to most RV seating, you'll never want to stand up again!

We also offer a Swivel Rocker Recliner chair that puts you in full control and allows you to pretty much move in whatever direction you'd like! The 24" diameter base lets you freely rock back and forth, move from side to side, and turn a full 360 degrees. It's okay if you start to feel like the captain of a spaceship when you're in this chair - we don't judge! When you're done piloting your ship, flip the swivel glider rocker recliner into one of two incredibly comfortable reclining positions and relax the day away.

Finally, we're proud to offer power recliners. These 30" recliners provide assistance to handicapped individuals or anyone who might have a hard time getting up on their own. It has all the great features of our other recliners, plus the ability to help you to your feet with ease.

An RV recliner won’t differ too much from the ones you’d put inside your residential home. After all, they are recliners, but recliners made specifically for the RV setting will have a few different features that’ll make them a better fit inside an RV. Most of them are smaller, more lightweight and more maneuverable.

In addition to the fact that an RV typically has limited space, motorhome recliners have to fit through the vehicle’s tight entrance as well, and the best RV recliners should also be lightweight so you can easily move them around as the needs arise.

While owners of smaller rigs might just opt for regular chairs and stools, for a family that owns a larger RV, a sizable and comfortable recliner will instantly make the vehicle feel more like a second home.

These things are simple to operate, and even the kids will swamp to them. All you need to do is pull on a level or similar mechanism, and the chair will lean back into a more comfortable position. Overall, there’s nothing complicated about getting these chairs to work. But as with anything mechanical, it’s best to read the instructions beforehand, and do consult the manual  to properly take care of your investment, including how to clean it.

Better blood circulation

RV recliners actually deliver immense health benefits too, in the way that they help balance the lower and upper body thanks to their ergonomics. This enhances blood circulation throughout your whole body, preventing fatigue and getting strained in certain parts that receive inadequate blood flow. The best RV recliners even have a zero gravity mode, which allows the heart to perform at its peak level even when you’re resting, thus pumping blood more quickly and optimally to nourish all your body’s cells.

Avoid body aches from those hikes

Better blood circulation will also sooth your body and prevent aching from hiking and exploring the wild. In fact, manufacturers will build most of these chairs to suit an older person’s comfort needs, and help alleviate neck, back, and shoulder pains. That said, these comfy chairs are suitable for everyone in all age groups.

What’s great about these RV recliners is that they don’t just help sooth body pain but can effectively prevent it as well. This ability comes from their titled design, which allows the best positioning for your body. So they will be wondrous to sit on for long periods of time, like when reading or watching a movie.

Today’s recliners for RV incorporate a diversity of colors, patterns and so on. That means the inclusion of recliners inside your rig could liven up the entire interior.

rv recliners

Recliners for recreational vehicles come in all shapes and sizes but it’s possible to group market models into three types: single, double and triple

Standalone / Single RV recliners

A standalone RV recliner can sit only one person at a time, so they make economical buys for the lone travelers or those already have other sitting areas inside their RV. Standalone RV recliners are smaller than double recliners, which makes placing and repositioning them inside your RV much easier.

Double recliners

Double recliners are like loveseats, they typically sit two to three people at a time, without taking up too much space. So they are popular with couples and especially big families need multiple seats around their RV. Although they are bigger and more expensive than standalone reclines, they are still Much more affordable and adaptable than fitting a whole couch inside your RV.

Triple Recliners

Also known as reclining sofas, triple recliners offer camper owners generous seating areas. Unsurprisingly, models of the types tend to excel in large-party RVing where the vehicle interior contains lots of people.

The best RV recliners really depend on your budget and camping needs, including how often you travel and how many companions you have, which will decide how big, comfortable and durable you need your recliner to be. How to Buy The Right RV Recliner: Important Criteria

The first and foremost thing to look for when seeking the best RV recliner is comfort. If you don’t feel perfectly comfortable lying on it, you’re better off getting regular chairs and stools.

Of course, this evaluation will be a little bit more difficult online. You can’t test them out yourself like at a store. And while you can certainly browse in-depth reviews from other customers, you will need to filter for those with similar height and build. Whether a recliner feels just right for you depends on bodily proportions.

The most in-depth reviews are usually either extremely positive or negative, so if you’re browsing on Amazon, those are typically 5 stars and 1 or 2 stars. If you’re still unsure from the reviews, you could always go to the nearest store and test the chair out yourself. Then you can go back online to find prestigious e-retailers that offer the same product with a discount.

One characteristic that contributes to your feeling of comfort is the recliner’s material. You want to ensure any RV recliner you’re considering is made of material suitable for your situations. First, it should be suitable for the typical type of climate that you travel in.

If you intend to RV in hotter climates or in the summer only, buying a leather recliner will be a bad idea. Instead of providing comfort, it will turn out to be a sweaty nightmare, regardless of whether you have an air conditioner or not.

But if you intend on camping in the cooler months, a leather recliner would be a fantastic option. Real leather, that is excluding recycled leather, is extremely durable. Leather furnitures in general are the most desirable since they might last you a lifetime with proper care, and they look good even when they age. Leather is versatile and suitable for both classic and modern designs, so RV leather recliners make fantastic long-term investment. Furthermore, leather is more resistant to minor liquid spillage and other contaminants than fabrics.

Second, the material of the recliner should be durable. In addition to leather, there are different blends of natural and synthetic fibers that create breathable and durable materials. Reading customer reviews should give you a good idea about the durability of each product. These reviews become incredibly important when you realize the materials used in these products tend to offer drastic results between products.

The reclining motion is an important factor to consider when looking for the best RV recliner. Reclining motion is a major contributing factor to the level of comfort that a model offers.

Power motion recliners use motors to adjust and recline your chair and typically have more positions than manual recliners. These recliners are perfect for those who have muscle and joint pains. While reclining may be easier, power motion recliners are heavier than their manual counterparts. Moreover, broken motors can be pretty expensive to maintain and repair.

On the other hand, manual recliners are sturdier with levers and handles and do not require much maintenance. When it comes to machines, generally the more simple mechanism, the less it’s prone to wear and tear, thus the longer it will last. However, those with joint pains and bad backs may find it difficult to stretch and reach the lever.

motorhome recliners

While a few campers won’t care about how their furniture looks inside their RV as long as it fits the space and provides enough comfort, but most do. Since an RV recliner is a major piece of furniture, that is it is of considerable size and is instantly noticeable when you walk into the space, it meshes with the rest of your RV’s interior.

After all, the furniture on the interior of your RV is much like the furniture you have in your own home.  You want it to look good and feel good, not only to yourself but your guests as well. First, its design should match the style of your RV interior, that is modern or old-school, clean and minimalist or elaborate, elegant or edgy. Second, it should match the colour scheme of your living space.

In the end, although a recliner’s design might not affect its overall quality, it does have the power to determine how you feel about your purchase. A pleasantly looking piece of furniture will make you feel better every time you look at it, plus it would be much easier to sell it off second-hand later on.

Moving furniture into an RV can be rather tricky. Therefore, you need to make sure that the recliner can comfortably fit through the RV door and doesn’t take up too much space in the already narrow living space. Moreover, it also needs to be lightweight so you won’t have trouble moving it around.

RV recliners that measure about 30 inches are small enough to fit into your motorhome or trailer without feeling too cramped to sit in. On the other hand, recliners wider than 30 inches would make it quite difficult to squeeze through the door, especially in older RV models.

Aside from the size, it is also important to check the recliner’s clearance. Regular recliners usually need about 12 inches of wall clearance to recline fully. Your best bet would be wall-hugger recliners which only require a wall clearance of about 3 to 6 inches.

Another factor to consider is the assembly, due to the limited space in RVs making it more of a challenge to assemble furniture. The most fuss-free RV recliners should have removable pieces like the backrest and armrests, which allows you to transport the item with less bulk.

Moreover, a good RV recliner with clear-cut, intuitive design and good quality control should be assembled quickly. Many recliner chairs only take about five minutes to assemble.

RV furniture is a lot like regular home furniture. You can pay less to get something basic or pay a premium for fancier items that have lots of added features. Because of the limited space in your RV, having multifunctional furniture is always more bang for your buck. To enjoy the most benefits from your investment, you should find recliner chairs that provide a ton of bonus features such as a USB port, a storage console and cup holders, to name a few.

Whether you are looking for RV recliners, they will cost you from a few hundred dollars up to a thousand. An RV recliner’s price will range between $250 and $1,500. But the good news is these compact versions of the ones you’d put inside your home often do cost less. And with so many options available on the market, it’s not too hard to find an economical buy that offers everything you want.

$250 – $750 : Dependable and reliable, recliners in the range operate consistently in an assortment of conditions and require minimal maintenance from RVers. Naturally, among cost-conscious enthusiasts of RVing that want no-nonsense recliners, models with price tags between $250 and $750 prove popular.

$750 – $1,250 : Boasting fantastic flexibility, recliners in the range seldom fail to please camper owners in use. If you don’t wish to spend a lot of money but still desire something solid, you should go after models that cost from $750 to $1,250.

Above $1,250 : Equipped to match nearly all expectations of RVers, recliners in the range deliver matching values for their steep prices. It’s noteworthy that models with costs exceeding $1,250 last a long time so people don’t have to worry about picking up replacements for years.

There is no need to be overly concerned about brand as the brand of a recliner rarely determines its worth. Nonetheless, in the case that you care about reputability, you must keep an eye out for models from these brands

rv couch recliner

Every single list of the best RV recliners on the planet would include several offerings from Recpro. This brand has crafted a reputation among RV owners as being one of the best in the arena, probably among the top three. RecPro has been consistently keeping their customers happy for their product’s durability, intuitive functionalities, clean and versatile aesthetics that fit a variety of interior styling and top-notch customer service. And their well-rounded products offer great value for money too, as sworn by their satisfied customers worldwide.

They are known for their clean, stylish and elegant designs, which is why the name of the brand is very fitting: Homelegance = Home + Elegance. Divano Roma Furniture

Thanks to the user-oriented design, recliners of Divano Roma Furniture tend to outmatch typical models in terms of ergonomics. In the case that you place convenience above all else, Divano Roma Furniture is going to be your best bet.

Thomas Payne

Known for its continuous applications of innovations into production, Thomas Payne manages to introduce solid recliners on a regular basis. It’s worth pointing out that Thomas Payne models reach the market at reasonable prices so they suit the wallet of usual enthusiasts of RVing.

Despite not having such long-running expertise like the above 4 giants, the RV community welcomed quite a few younger players in the RV recliner chair arena like Flash Furniture, Bonzy, Handy Living, Divano Roma Furniture, and FDW. These brands do not have an extensive product portfolio to offer like RecPro, but they do have some functional and aesthetically pleasing offerings with unique merits.

For instance, Flash Furniture has made a name for itself for its super comfortable leather-and-wood swivel recliner that comes with a lovely ottoman and boasts state-of-the-art ball-bearing construction. Thomas Pane’s RV recliners are known for the brand’s distinctively lean, elegant and luxurious aesthetics, coupled with all-around functionality and comfort. Handy Living has also gained popularity in recent years with their minimal, modern and versatile design that would fit right in with a wide variety of RV interior styling.

FAQs About RV Recliner

If you have already done the measurements to make sure the recliner will fit through the door and in the space you intend for it, then sure, you can put a regular home recliner in an RV. Just keep in mind of moving one into the rig and repositioning it to harder, as a regular residential recliner is typically a lot bulkier, heavier and less adaptable.

One thing that might increase your comfort is to bring one or two pillows to put behind the arch of your back and your neck as you lean back for more support as well as cushion. You could also put a blanket over it, which would add another comfy layer between you and the chair. This trick also makes the recliner look more cozy, and might also serve as a mild protection against dust and liquid spillage. Aside from these two tricks, there is hardly anything else you can do. With this in mind, you should do your research and try everything to ensure the recliner that you buy is comfortable, before actually making such a big purchase. Otherwise, you’ll end up wasting a lot of money on something you’ll hardly use.

The process of removing an old RV recliner will largely depend on the exact model that you want to get rid of. To be on the safe side, consult the user’s manual or look for any video tutorial that might be available online.  Identifying how your old recliner is secured is the first step to properly removing it. Most designs have some sort of metal or wooden base that secures to your RV floor or walls using bolts or screws.  As a general rule, most recliners should be able to be removed carefully and without force. If you find yourself having to break or use excessive force to get something free, you probably need to step back and consult your manual again.

Owing to the difference in material, cleaning requirements vary significantly between recliners for RV so it’s best to refer to the owner’s manual. If you have questions, contact the

How To Choose The Perfect RV Recliners

Choosing an RV recliner shouldn’t be all too different from choosing a regular recliner. You need to factor in the same preferences as your comfort, space, budget, and design. But it can get a bit overwhelming since there are a lot of different brands and models to pick from and buy.

However, following the reviews, there are a few more things you need to consider when you’re choosing a recliner of any kind. Here are the most important things you need to remember when choosing an RV recliner:

When choosing any chair, you need to put your comfort at the forefront of your checklist. Have in mind you need to consider a number of aspects of your recliner:

  • Upholstery – you need to make sure the upholstery you pick is comfortable enough for you. You do not need a faux leather unit if you’re not comfortable sitting in faux leather for extended periods. Moreover, you should pick something that is low maintenance.
  • Cushioning – it’s important that your recliner chair is soft and plush enough for comfort. However, you should also make sure that the cushioning is firm enough to offer support for extended periods. A recliner that’s too smooth could hurt your back. You should check what the product is made of for reference.
  • Size – make sure your recliner fits you right. Your feet or legs should not dangle from the footrest uncomfortably, and your head should be well supported. At no point in time, should you feel constricted in your chair? Your chair should also not be too large that it hits objects near it. Aside from the size, you also need to check the recliner’s clearance

Contrary to popular belief, you will be moving your furniture around.

Adjustment

It’s important that you pick a unit that is easy to move around.

Yes, that heavy unit might feel more sturdy to you, but that’s not always the case.

Following the reviews and anyway, having heavy furniture on your RV is just asking for bad luck.

Unless you’re looking for a temporary fix, it’s important that you pick a recliner that will last you a long time. You shouldn’t have to resort to buying and then re-installing a new recliner every year.

Make sure you pick a recliner that is well built and is covered by a good warranty policy. This will help you gauge how reputable the company is and how long their recliners usually last.

One of the most important things you need to bring with you when shopping for a recliner is the dimensions of your living room and space you have for the recliner.

Mobility

While most RV reclining units are space-efficient, you might not have as much room for a recliner if there are plenty of other things in your living room.

If you purchase an RV recliner that isn’t a wall hugger, make sure you have enough space to account for the wall clearance your recliner will need.

It’s also important to make sure there’s enough living room for your feet and footrests to go up.

You don’t want to hit your feet on the table in front of you when you tilt, do you?

Adjustments

Investing in an RV means you have limited space. Have in mind you need to get creative when choosing furniture you can nap on.

Adjustments

There are many recliners that lay flat and ones that turn into beds. But you should also keep an eye out for zero gravity recliner units. These are highly beneficial to your overall health and help you get a good night’s sleep as well.

Overall, you should make sure that your rv recliner is reliable and can stay with you for many years.

Unless you’re looking for something temporary, you’re likely not looking forward to having to haul and unhaul a reclining unit from your RV every so often.

Most importantly, reclining units are not cheap. Sure, you can get some units under $300, but if you factor in your time and frustrations, is it really worth it?

Summary: It’s important to be careful when choosing a recliner for your RV. Make sure it’s comfortable, easily mobile. You might find a cheap recliner. However, it’s important you keep in mind that you usually get what you pay for. It’s important that you pick a unit that will last you a good amount of time and keep you as comfortable as possible.

How Do I Choose a Recliner?

Recliners come in various models and styles so it may be difficult to decide which recliner is best for you. All Recliners Are Not Created Equal. This may sound a bit odd but all Recliners Are Not Created Equal. But, the one thing all Recliners Have in Common is to provide the best fit for your body shape. So, all you need to do is to ask your family members about what their favorite recliner was. So the first and most important thing to think about is “How are you going to get to this in-home recliner?” A recliner can be placed anywhere in your home, but the ideal location for a recliner is on a sitting or reclining sofa that’s placed in front of a TV or stereo (let’s ignore the question of why you would want to sit on a recliner).

The next step is what kind of recliner to buy. The recliner that we choose depends on the function it’s going to be used for. TV – You can either buy a reclining sofa or a chair that’s geared towards a flat-screen TV (making for a good armrest for the person lying on the couch). The TV can be easily adjusted, and the recliner will pull out for easy seating when you don’t want to use the “potent posterior” too often. You can either buy a reclining sofa or a chair that’s geared towards a flat-screen TV (making for a good armrest for the person lying on the couch).

What is a Jiffy Sofa in an RV?

To give you an idea, here are a few things you need to know before you take out your Jiffy Sofa: Each Jiffy Sofa comes with a warranty that covers about three years of travel. If your Jiffy Sofa stops working, you can send it to Jiffy Servicing (with a $60 payment and a 30-day turnaround) and they will fix it for you, including sewing up holes. We used to have a Jiffy Sofa that was snapped in half by a raccoon a couple of years ago. Fortunately, we still have the warranty. Make sure you plug the outlets in the corners of the cushions. These outlets have a tendency to light up and light up and light up until the cushions are literally melted. Just stay away from these outlets.

What Is An RV Recliner? How Does It Work?

An RV recliner is similar to any recliner you see in the market. Except, it has a few key defining features.

To start with, an RV recliner is made for small spaces . They are usually wall-hugger units or feature a sleeker, more compact design.

What Is An RV Recliner

  • They are often narrower. However, there are also units that are still generously spacious for taller or bigger users. It all depends on the style of the recliner and how it is installed in the RV.

Second, RV recliners are usually more lightweight. This allows for better mobility and makes it easier to maneuver.

Having said that, some RV recliner units have a modular style that is made specifically for RV installation.

This makes the installation process easier and less complicated compared to trying to fit a large chair into a small RV doorway.

But all in all, RV recliners are very similar to regular recliners. The adjustments and technology are the same with little to no variations aside from the overall space efficiency.

Summary: RV recliners are not at all that different from regular recliners. They are often modular in construction and are usually slimmer and more lightweight for better mobility and so it doesn’t take up too much space in your RV.

Can I Use Regular Recliner in RV?

I’m from the western U.S. I’ve been an RVer since 1990 and I’m looking at purchasing a bigger RV. I would love to try out a recliner if I could buy a used one in the area I plan to travel. I’d love to try a regular recliner, but I have to be careful. What do you think the chances are that it will fit in my RV? And if it doesn’t fit, would I be able to buy one and then take it back when I sell my RV? —David W.

Hi David, I’ve written quite a few articles concerning RV recliners, and I’ve had requests to write about this subject. Recliners come in a number of types; there are manual recliners and electric recliners. Some recliners have built-in massage functions and some are not. It’s possible that you could find a Recliner with a built-in massage function.

Benefits of RV Recliners

Recliners, in general, are very beneficial to your back and alleviate body pain, among other things. They’re also ideal if you’re recovering from a recent injury or surgery. But more than that, they’re powerful companions when you just want to lean back and relax.

Benefits of RV Recliners

  • Convenient Comfort – let’s face it. Your mattress sometimes just doesn’t cut it when you need to truly relax. Sure, you can lie there and sleep as much as you want. But are you truly comfortable? Are you able to shed off the stress of day-to-day life? Not really. There’s nothing quite like kicking your feet up after a tiring day and being able to just stand whenever you want to.
  • Health – most recliners are designed to provide lumbar support. This means you’re likely better supported on a recliner than on any other piece. This makes it ideal if you suffer from body pains, especially since some recliners also offer high-tech features like heating, massage, zero gravity reclining, and many more.
  • Unmatched Support – in some cases, it may be very difficult to get comfortable in your mattress. This is where medical recliners come in handy. Some recliners are built specifically to support those with limited mobility or who have trouble sleeping on unsupportive surfaces. You may find a reclining unit that offers advanced lumbar support or chiropractic benefits alongside the comfort it provides.
Summary: Overall, RV recliner (as like Thomas Payne rv furniture brand or Prolounger Wall Hugger) are just as beneficial as any other recliner. Perhaps even more so given that they are readily available to help alleviate your discomfort as you travel from one place to the other and go on different adventures. It’s important to keep in mind that a recliner is more than its looks. Make sure you find a unit that comes with all the beneficial features that you need.

Can You Put Regular Furniture in an RV?

Should you go out and buy a piece of original RV furniture or should you save your pennies for a bigger, fancier set? If you’re like most RVers, your answer probably ranges from “heck yeah!” to “you betcha! but you can’t put it in the RV.” The chances are excellent that your new RV with a center console will not have the size, space or storage space to include pieces like this in your rig, especially if you have small kids or pets, or if you want to place your couch or a small dinette set right where you want it. That’s where these collapsible modular pieces of furniture come in because they are much easier to put in the RV than your existing furniture.

The concept behind this modular furniture is simple: A box of units is sealed into a sturdy base and held firmly in place by two lugs, or “locks.” The modular pieces slide onto the ends of the base and then an additional “staple” is inserted to hold the units together in any desired configuration. The units used are not only very lightweight but have a high degree of strength and are easy to stack or assemble to create any type of seating arrangement for your RV. The “lock” concept does, however, require extra care for safety, and when you’re actually using your modular furniture, you’ll have to use a special bolt to secure them together.

Can You Put Normal Furniture in an RV?

Camping seasons come and go. These days, more and more families are spending weekends on the beach or in the mountains. But some of the most common scenes in RV travel are the same as in camping, and perhaps even more common than that: Visiting campgrounds with rows of RVs. But many RV owners find the odd site of these vehicles just as disconcerting as any livestock-and-rat deal.

Some owners go out of their way to make their rigs as inviting as possible, but others prefer a more stripped-down experience. How can you blend in when you want to camp with your family, but you’re obviously no gazelle? These simple tips will get you and your trailer a little closer to the mainstream of campers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What recliners last the longest.

When it comes to recliners that stand the test of time, those crafted with high-quality materials and durable construction are your best bet. Look for recliners made from solid hardwood frames, such as oak or maple, as these materials offer exceptional longevity. Additionally, top-grain or full-grain leather upholstery is a superior choice, known for its resilience and ability to age gracefully.

Recliners with sturdy metal mechanisms, such as those made from heavy-duty steel, ensure smooth and reliable reclining functionality over the long term. Multi-layered foam cushions provide lasting comfort and support, while high-density foams maintain their shape even with frequent use.

Brands renowned for their craftsmanship and attention to detail, like La-Z-Boy, Ekornes Stressless, and Herman Miller, have a reputation for producing recliners that endure for decades. Consider models with robust warranties, which often indicate the manufacturer’s confidence in their product’s longevity.

Furthermore, regular maintenance, such as keeping the recliner clean and lubricating moving parts, can significantly extend its lifespan. By investing in a recliner designed with top-tier components and following proper care guidelines, you can enjoy a comfortable and long-lasting piece of furniture that complements your home for years to come.

Why is RV Furniture so Expensive?

RV furniture can be notably expensive due to several factors rooted in design, materials, and manufacturing processes. Firstly, RV furniture must meet specific requirements, such as compact dimensions and lightweight construction, to fit within the limited space and weight limits of recreational vehicles. These specialized designs often require more intricate engineering and customization, driving up production costs.

Moreover, the materials used in RV furniture must be durable, lightweight, and capable of withstanding the rigors of constant travel and vibrations on the road. High-quality, lightweight materials, such as aluminum frames and advanced composites, tend to be more expensive than traditional furniture materials like solid wood.

The manufacturing of RV furniture is typically done on a smaller scale compared to mass-produced household furniture. This means that economies of scale are not as significant, leading to higher per-unit production costs.

Additionally, RV furniture manufacturers need to consider safety regulations and certifications for the unique environment of a moving vehicle. Meeting these standards may necessitate further research and development, which can also contribute to higher prices.

Furthermore, the demand for RV furniture is relatively niche compared to household furniture, leading to lower overall sales volume. As a result, manufacturers may need to compensate by setting higher prices to maintain profitability.

All these factors combined contribute to the higher cost of RV furniture, making it a more significant investment for those seeking to outfit their recreational vehicles with comfortable and durable furnishings.

Which Lasts Longer Manual or Power Recliner?

Choosing between a manual and a power recliner involves considering various factors, including longevity. When evaluating which type of recliner lasts longer, it’s essential to delve into the materials, mechanisms, and usage patterns that influence their lifespan. Let’s explore the durability and longevity of both manual and power recliners from a scientific and practical perspective.

Mechanisms and Durability

The longevity of a recliner largely depends on the durability of its mechanism. Manual recliners use a lever or push-back system to adjust the reclining position. These mechanisms are relatively simple, involving fewer moving parts, which typically translates to less wear and tear over time. The absence of electronic components means there are fewer points of failure, making manual recliners robust and reliable for long-term use.

In contrast, power recliners are equipped with electric motors and complex control systems that facilitate smooth and effortless reclining. While these advanced features offer enhanced convenience and comfort, they introduce additional components that can malfunction. The motor, wiring, and control switches are susceptible to electrical issues, which can reduce the overall lifespan of the recliner if not properly maintained.

Materials and Construction

Both manual and power recliners are often constructed from high-quality materials, such as hardwood frames and high-density foam padding. However, the added electrical components in power recliners require more rigorous construction standards to ensure safety and durability. Premium power recliners are designed with durable motors and reinforced frames to support the extra weight and mechanical stress, potentially balancing out the additional wear points introduced by the motorized system.

Usage Patterns and Maintenance

Usage patterns significantly impact the longevity of both manual and power recliners. Manual recliners can withstand frequent adjustments without much strain on the mechanism, provided they are used as intended and maintained well. Regular cleaning and occasional lubrication of the mechanical parts can extend their lifespan.

Power recliners, while convenient, require more diligent maintenance. The electrical components must be kept free of dust and moisture, and the motor should be used within the recommended operational limits to prevent overheating. Power recliners may also require periodic servicing by professionals to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

In general, manual recliners tend to last longer due to their simpler mechanisms and fewer points of failure. However, high-quality power recliners designed with robust materials and proper maintenance can offer comparable durability. Ultimately, the choice between manual and power recliners should consider personal preferences, usage habits, and willingness to invest in regular maintenance. By understanding these factors, you can make an informed decision that ensures lasting comfort and reliability.

Final Words. What is the Best Brand?

Making a final decision is highly subjective. What’s best for me might not even crack your top three. However, when choosing the “best” in any recliner category, I like to keep in mind a few categories:

  • Size and Comfort – the recliner should be well-sized to be spacious, yet not too large and bulky. It should also be generously padded so that it provides enough comfort and support and allows you to lay back and relax in it for extended periods without developing discomfort.
  • Value – I generally like to look at the overall functionality of a recliner as well as its price. To determine this, I like to look at how well the recliner performs. It should be space-efficient. The upholstery should be comfortable. The cushioning should be substantial, but not too soft that it doesn’t provide support. It should allow multiple reclining positions. And most importantly, it needs to be easy to install.
  • Durability – last but not least, the recliner needs to be solid in all aspects. The framework, the upholstery, and the reclining mechanism. Otherwise, it isn’t very much worth your time or money if it isn’t solid.

Having said that, I can comfortably rest my case by recommending the set of two RecPro wall hugger RV recliners. They’re good value simply because you get two high-quality recliners with great functionality. Moreover, they’re solid, low maintenance, and relatively easy to install.

Overall, choosing a recliner is an incredibly intimate experience. If you’re not ready to commit to two recliners in one purchase, I suggest taking a look at any of the other options above. I’m confident you’ll find something that will not only fit into your Rv but turn it into a home on the road.

Remember, your recliner is only as comfortable as you are when you sit in it. Make sure you have the right one that can stick by you through miles and years of use.

1. Newmar Kountry Star 3412 RV

rv travel trailer recliners

When choosing a Class A RV, you might want something mid-range in terms of pricing.

The 2021 Newmar Kountry is reasonably priced, and it comes with many attractive features and amenities and is built with four slide outs.

The Newmar is just under 35 ft in length, and when combined with the slide outs, this RV truly offers the right amount of space; perfect for those looking to purchase an RV to visit national parks and the outdoors.

The Class A RV has beautiful decor throughout that creates a timeless effect.

Within the front of the RV is the spacious living area and provides comfortable living with the three recliners (one is a swivel recliner). There is also a Villa Dormi sofa sleeper couch that houses an air mattress.

Inside this same living area is a Villa dinette booth with an additional sleeping space that your family and guests can utilize when they visit you. This area is tied together nicely with the 4K LED TV that is on a retractable lift. The bedroom is secluded and located in the rear of the Newmar RV and comes with a queen-sized bed.

You will be able to enjoy your privacy in this bedroom while watching your favorite movies on the Samsung LED TV.

This bedroom also features built-in drawers and cabinets that are inside the slide-out for that extra convenience. Discreetly tucked away in the bedroom is the washer and dryer, which is stacked and located behind the cabinet doors.

The bathroom has plenty of cabinets and has a stainless steel sink, a toilet, and a glass door shower with a handy movable shower head.

The 2021 Winnebago Forza 34T RV is reasonably priced and is cheaper than many of its competitors in this RV class category.

Winnebago is known for its quality RVs and is a household name amongst many RV drivers. Their 2021 model does not disappoint and manages to pull off everything you need with two slides and 35 ft of length, and the capability to sleep up to four comfortably.

The kitchen’s decor is beautiful, and the dark wood cabinetry sets off the white countertops splendidly. Inside the kitchen are a dual sunken sink with a faucet, a single door fridge, microwave, and stove.

Inside the bathroom, there is a flushing toilet and a 38-inch by 30-inch glass door sliding shower with a convenient built-in seat.

The bedroom has a queen-size bed that is centrally placed and on either side features a nightstand. There is also a tv and a large wardrobe where you can store all your clothes while traveling. Due to this RV layout, you will have plenty of space to walk around in the private rear bedroom.

Additionally, the Winnebago has modern features such as an entertainment center and a USB charging station.

Travel Trailers With Comfy Recliners

Should you be looking for an RV with comfy recliners, but you don’t have a large budget, you can look into RV travel trailers.

Recently travel trailers have become incredibly popular, and some can contend with the larger, more expensive larger categories.

In recent years many travel trailers are being manufactured with modern features and amenities such as recliners. Travel trailers are often much more affordable for those wanting to enter the RV market.

Luckily many models are not only affordable but also stylish and comfortable.

Below we will look at two travel trailers that could be a perfect fit for you and your budget.

Two comfortable recliners come with cup holders within the lounge and dining room space in the Grand design. Above is a television set that faces the recliners and allows you to enjoy all your daytime viewings in comfort.

Across from the recliners is a small dinette area which has padded seating and a marble look dining table.

In the bedroom, there is a queen-sized mattress, and cupboards surround the bed. With plenty of storage space, you won’t have any issue taking along with you on your travels all the items you might need. The bedroom features two windows on each side of the bedroom that can open to provide you a breeze.

There is a curtain divider that keeps the bedroom private from the rest of the unit.

The lightwood cabinetry in the kitchen complements the wooden vinyl plank flooring and the marble white countertops. There are a modern stove and microwave, and there is a refrigerator. The countertop in the corner features a single sink that has a faucet and dish rack.

The small bathroom has a skylight that brightens up space tremendously and helps It appear larger. There are a standard shower and toilet with this Travel trailer.

The bathroom layout maximizes the space available to allow for storage and a bathroom sink.

4. The Forest River Salem Hemisphere 25RBHL Travel Trailer

If you want a slightly larger travel trailer with a single slide and is around 31 ft, then the 2021 Salem Hemisphere is worth considering.

This Travel Trailer RV comes equipped with sleeping amenities for four people and can keep you cool with the installed air conditioning unit.

Interestingly, this travel trailer features a bedroom in the front and a bathroom in the rear. The bathroom comes equipped with a toilet, shower, and sink combination. The countertops are gorgeously designed and go well with the grey tone wood storage compartments and cabinetry.

Inside the bedroom is a queen-sized bed that has a cupboard surrounding it and has two side tables.  Although it is small, there is more than enough space to walk within the bedroom.

There are two comfortable recliners in the theatre seating style in this trailer’s lounge, and they each have their own separate cup holders. There is a TV entertainment center above a toasty heater in front of the recliners to keep you warm in winter.

There is also a black-themed dinette area that has its own carpet. The contrast between the seating and the marble look table is extraordinary. Under the dinette seats, there is additional storage for all your dining table accessories.

  • Residential furniture that fits in RVs
  • Not rated for RV use
  • DIY ways to keep furniture in place
  • Some furniture pieces are multifunctional
  • May have organizational products for storage maximization

While the Swedish company, IKEA , does not make furniture specifically for the RV, you may want to consider some of its products. IKEA has many multifunctional products, such as sleeper sofas with storage underneath and fold-down tables. The company also sells ways to upgrade your current furniture such as covers, paint, and more.

Some of the furniture may be narrow enough for RV use but be sure and measure before you buy. IKEA furniture usually is lightweight and comes unassembled so fitting through your door should not be a problem.

You might also consider how you will bolt down RV furniture for travel that is not specifically made for an RV. You don’t want furniture shifting around as you move down the road. Some furniture from IKEA might be better suited for some who don’t travel as often such as snowbirds or full-time RVers who only travel every few months.

The weight of the furniture is a consideration, as well as its ability to withstand the wear and tear of RV life. IKEA does have a lot of organizational products which can be a lifesaver for your RV storage. Bins, dividers, baskets, and more can all be beneficial for storage. Make sure and measure before ordering but these can be very useful. Check the IKEA store locater to find a store near you or go online for products, ideas, 3D design, and more.

7 Factors That Makes RV Furniture Different from Home Furniture

1. lightweight.

Both the residential and RV furniture industries use High-Density Fiberboard (HDF) as a replacement for furniture structural components. RV furniture uses other techniques to make it as light as possible to help reduce the overall Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW or dry weight) of the RV.

An overweight travel trailer or motorhome can be more difficult to control and costs you more in gas. You must know the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) on your RV. This is the maximum weight your RV can be when fully loaded.

Replacing your RV with heavy pieces can reduce your coach’s Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) so it is important to do the math when looking for lightweight RV furniture. Be sure and check the product listings for the weight before making a purchase.

2. Department of Transportation Compliant

Many state Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations require passengers to use safety belts on secured seating traveling in motorhomes. RV sofas and dinette benches are bolted to the floor and have DOT compliant safety belts as standard features.

3. Bolted to the Floor

When you buy RV furniture it has the necessary hardware and the ability to be bolted to the floor. This keeps the content of your RV and the furniture in good shape. More importantly, if you need to make a sharp turn or sudden stop, motorhome users don’t have to worry about their passengers in the coach section getting hurt from the unsecured furniture.

4. Camp and Road Worthy

While the original furniture in your RV may not be the best quality, you want to be sure and get replacements that are of high quality and durability. Furniture should be able to withstand the vibrations and other conditions of RV travel.

Adults know how to take care of their furniture, but RV furniture manufacturers do account for the “kid and pet” effects. The HDF and other building materials can handle an accidental kick, a Mastiff jump on the sofa, and a pack of teenagers all sitting together (hopefully it’s a short trip).

5. Synthetic Leathers and Fabrics

Be sure and do some research on the kinds of fabrics that can handle the elements well. RV furniture leathers usually come as a synthetic material that can withstand the moisture and other demands of the RV lifestyle. Direct sunlight can make the top veneer begin to peel, but there are conditioners you can use to prevent it. Microfiber fabrics are also good and stain-resistant.

6. Multifunctional Design

RV furniture also can have multiple uses. A couch can fold into a bed, a bed can become a table, or some RV-specific furniture can have more storage options. For example, your RV dinette usually has storage under the cushions.

7. Fits Through the Entry Door

Most RV furniture is built to fit through an RV entry door. It may have to be brought in or out in separate parts, but the owner’s manual will instruct you how to do it correctly.. A good rule of thumb is to always measure before you buy.

Reasons Why You Might Want to Replace Your RV furniture

Is your current RV furniture uncomfortable worn out? Do you have kids or pets that make you say “this is why we can’t have nice things.” Finding furniture that will stand up to your two or four-legged kids is not difficult. High-quality furniture that is durable and beautiful is the best part of RV furniture.

Maybe you just want your space to look nice and you want to get rid of all those browns and tans. Paint and a few pieces of lighter color furniture can make such a difference on how your space feels. Lighter and brighter is always better.

Your current floor plan might also be something you want to change up. I don’t know how many RVs we looked at that had the TV at a weird angle to the couch or recliners. I guess you shouldn’t want to watch TV when you RV. Really?

Changing the floor plan can also provide you with more storage. If you opt for smaller furniture pieces, work out a better way to arrange it, focus on multi-use furniture with extra storage, your end result could be your perfect balance of aesthetic and functionality.

Reasons Why You Might want to Replace Your RV furniture

RV Couch Replacement Ideas

Replacing a couch in your RV isn’t difficult, but everything depends on what is your end goal. In our travel trailer, we needed space for an office, so we took out the couch in the bunkroom and added a desk.

We slept on the hide-a-bed once and it was super uncomfortable. We never wanted to do it again, or make our visitors suffer through. When we sold that travel trailer, we found a comfortable used couch for the new owners at a very decent price. It was the deciding factor to close the sale.

If you don’t like the couch you have because of the way it looks, you can either replace it or recondition it. Replacing the fabric or leather won’t help if it’s not comfortable. However, you might consider adding new foam.

Keep an eye out on RV social media pages if you don’t want to buy something new. There is always someone looking to sell RV furniture that is in good condition, as we learned. You can also find small businesses on Etsy that will make custom fabric cushions and pillows for your sofas, chairs, and other RV furniture.

Why is RV Furniture so Expensive?

RV furniture is expensive because it is custom-made for the RV lifestyle. Its construction and fabric must be able to stand up to the stresses that are put on it through travel and a more “outdoor” lifestyle. It must be able to fit through an RV door, as well as be lightweight and durable.

These days there is a trend toward RV renovation so check out places like eBay, Craig’s List, OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace, and other social media sites for gently used RV furniture. Many RV furniture stores have clearance sales and scratch-and-dent items at reduced prices.

How Do You Secure Furniture in an RV?

Securing your new RV furniture could require an expert for installation. Handy DIYers can install many less complex pieces in place too. Most RV furniture will come ready to secure. However, taking a piece of furniture that was in a motorcoach and adding it to a travel trailer might require some creativity. We found that out as we added the new couch.

An RV Truth: It’s rare to find universal sizing in the RV world

If you plan to bolt furniture to your RV, make sure you know what is below before you drill through the floor.

Best RV COUCH- So comfortable – YouTube

Does Flexsteel Still Make RV Furniture?

On April 29, 2020, Flexsteel announced that they were leaving the RV furniture sector because of falling revenues. That allowed other brands the opportunity of becoming the new leaders in the RV furniture market. Flexsteel dominated the conversion van and motorhome furniture market space since the 80s and 90s.

Key Points to Look For in RV Furniture

To recap, make sure you consider the weight of your new RV furniture. Check the product listing to find that number. Get furniture that is roadworthy with high-quality materials to maximize the furniture’s longevity. RV furniture with multifunctionality and storage can be worth the upgrade cost. Don’t forget to take measurements so you know it will fit through the door and sit correctly in the space you want. Be patient to find gently used furniture and to get the best deals.

Your RV is your home, whether it is for a few weeks a year or year-round. You want it to reflect your style and suit your needs. There are many reasons to change up your furniture and there are tons of ways to improve your space that is not terribly expensive.

Whether you have the money for a complete redo, or maybe just a piece or two, jump in and get started. With a little time and research, you can find plenty of ideas, purchase used or discounted furniture, or go whole hog with new stuff.
