What is Taste of Williamsburg?

Taste of Williamsburg is a food tour, or culinary tour, that includes a diverse variety of cuisine from restaurants with a fun and engaging walking tour that includes history and key locations. We also hold special events to support local businesses, offer progressive dinners, and more.

While Williamsburg is famous for its rich history, it is also  home to delicious, award-winning restaurants offering a variety of culinary experiences. With so many options, it is often difficult to decide where to eat! Taste of Williamsburg makes your decision easier by offering multiple culinary tours that give you the opportunity to dine at several of the city’s finest restaurants and eateries in one afternoon.

What inspired Taste of Williamsburg?

Visitors would often ask the owner where they should eat, and what he thought of the restaurants. As a student, he was familiar with the small business restaurants near Colonial Williamsburg, but as a resident of New Town, he also loved the food that New Town had to offer. He thought, why not give our visitors the chance to try several different foods from most of the local favorites? After all, you can’t really get to know a place without experiencing it , you can’t experience a city without understanding its culture, and you certainly can’t understand its culture without savoring its food.

After lots of hard work from our staff, Taste of Williamsburg launched in 2011. We looked for the best restaurants that are so confident in the quality of their food, that, as one restaurant owner remarked, “I don’t care about the price, because I know that all it takes for someone to return to my restaurant is a taste of our food.”

Our restaurants are a mark of high quality, with passionate owners and management that care not only about their food, but also about their customers and the dining experience. The fact that they are affiliated with Taste of Williamsburg is a mark of quality. You know that you’re getting one of the best with a Taste of Williamsburg restaurant . We work closely with our restaurant partners and wish them success and prosperity in everything that they do. Both their friendly staff and delicious food are to be respected and admired.

We hope that you enjoy our tours and walk away with more than a few good tastes, but that you depart with a happy stomach, new friends, and a lasting, wonderful experience.

Both tourists and locals have enjoyed our Williamsburg food tours for more than four years . So if you’re coming in from out of town or live in Williamsburg, come see us. Taste of Williamsburg’s food tours are a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. We hope to see you for a memorable journey through Williamsburg’s culinary offerings, unique history and culture!

Thank you for visiting our website, and we hope that you will have a taste of Williamsburg with us.

6 Breweries in Williamsburg, VA You Should Try

Sharing is caring!

There are quite a few popular wineries near Williamsburg but did you know that the breweries in Williamsburg, VA are just as good?

You’ll find six craft breweries in this city and each one offers a unique atmosphere but better yet, great beer.

Uber and Lyft drivers aren’t as plentiful here as they are in the big cities so please have a designated driver or make arrangements with Drink Williamsburg – more on them at the bottom of this post.

Whether you are spending a weekend in Williamsburg or you have more time to explore, make sure you check out a few of these spots!

Alewerks Brewing Company

food tour williamsburg va

Alewerks is one of the larger breweries in Williamsburg, VA and they have two different locations.

At their brewery taproom, they have a huge outdoor space filled with picnic tables and a few tables indoors.

Parking is in a large gravel lot so no issues there. I’m always worried about what the parking situation will be.

There are 16 different taps here and an option for flights or pints. I will say – the flights are priced per beer and you can get up to six I believe. This was a bit pricey but the pints were reasonable.

They have tons of different events here and occasionally they’ll have food trucks – more often in the summer.

The outdoor patio is dog-friendly if you want to bring your furry friend along. When we visited in June of 2021, there was an ax-throwing trailer set up right outside. How neat is that?

They serve non-alcoholic drinks for any families that want to visit and also have games available to play.

Address : 189B Ewell Road | Site : Alewerks Brewing

Brass Cannon Brewing

food tour williamsburg va

Just down the road from Alewerks you’ll find Brass Cannon Brewing. They have a decent size indoor space and a large bar where you can sit. Love that when I’m visiting solo.

Brass Cannon is Veteran owned and they offer discounts to Veterans and First Responders. As of right now (Fall 2021) they have 11 beers on tap.

Events are happening here every night of the week so check their schedule! They have BINGO, Karaoke, and Trivia night just to name a few.

For parking, there is a small lot in front of the taproom but if you continue around the right side fo the building you’ll find even more spaces.

If the weather is nice, you can sit outside at tables under a shelter. They serve snacks like bags of chips in case you get the munchies.

Address : 5476 Mooretown Road | Site : Brass Cannon Brewing

The Virginia Beer Company

food tour williamsburg va

This one of the must-visit breweries in Williamsburg, VA. The atmosphere is top-notch and the beer is fantastic.

They have an adorable outdoor area – called their Beer Garden – to sit with picnic tables and fire pits. The outside of the building looks like a renovated garage and has a huge roll-up door.

During nice weather, this door will be open so the outdoor and indoor spaces are seamless. They have lots of different beers on tap – some flagship brews and some seasonal.

It *should* be easy for all beer drinkers to find something they’ll like here. The staff was incredibly friendly too which is always a plus.

Dogs are allowed in the beer garden and I saw many people have theirs with them. There are food trucks here often and like the others, they do multiple events and live music nights.

If food trucks are not on premises then you are allowed to bring outside food in or order delivery. Be sure to clean up after yourself though.

They have a large parking lot but this is a popular spot so it fills up quickly. I recommend carpooling here if you can.

This is just down the road from Colonial Pancake House which is one of the most popular places for breakfast in Williamsburg .

Address : 401 2nd St | Site : Virginia Beer Company

Precarious Beer Project

food tour williamsburg va

The closest brewery to Colonial Williamsburg is the Precarious Beer Project. This brewery has a very industrial feel and is at the other end of the block from Market Square and W Duke of Gloucester Street.

There is tons of indoor seating here but on a nice day you can sit at one of the bars or tables on the patio that wraps around the corner of the building.

They have a few fire pits out there too that are nice to sit by when it’s chilly. Electric Circus Taqueria – one of the best restaurants in Williamsburg – is located inside the building.

While the service style is similar to a food truck, the Electric Circus Taqueria is permanent. When you get to the brewery, you walk up to the food window to place an order for food.

If you want beer then you must order that at the bar. The patio is dog-friendly and this is a super kid-friendly brewery as they have arcade games in the back.

We ate lunch here one day when exploring Colonial Williamsburg and it was the perfect stop. Parking here is the main issue but there are multiple paid public parking lots nearby.

Address : 110 S Henry St | Site : Precarious Beer Project

Joker Brewing

Here you’ll find a brew that you might not have expected. Hard kombucha.

They are brewing Virginia’s first hard kombucha which is pretty special if you ask me! Located in a shopping center, right beside King of Clubs: Coffee & Kombucha, they have plenty of parking.

They began brewing regular kombucha for King of Clubs and then started with hard kombucha. There is an outdoor seating area roped off in the parking lot when the weather is nice.

If you aren’t familiar with kombucha then the staff is known for being incredibly friendly and they’ll try to help you find something that suits your taste.

Definitely one of the most unique breweries in Williamsburg, VA!

Address : 113 Palace Rd, Unit D | Site : Joker Brewing

Billsburg Brewery

Billsburg is super close to Jamestown right across from the Jamestown Settlement Museum. It’s really one of the top things to do when visiting Jamestown!

Apparently it’s technically still in Williamsburg though. Either way, it’s worth a visit!

The taproom and outdoor area overlook the Jamestown Yacht Basin which makes for a beautiful backdrop.

Most people see the sign and plan on popping in for a quick drink but then wind up spending the afternoon here because of the laid-back atmosphere.

There is plenty of outdoor seating but it gets busy on weekends, especially when the weather is pretty.

They have a resident food truck – The Hungry Pug – and their motto is “If it’s got cheese, we’re making it!” My kind of place.

Address : 2054 Jamestown Rd | Site : Billsburg Brewery

Drink Williamsburg

Want to try the breweries in Williamsburg but don’t want to do the driving? Drink Williamsburg will save the day.

They don’t only visit the breweries though. They offer tours to any of the popular drinking spots in the area.

You can choose from multiple different options for tours – ones that are pre-planned or a custom tour. The pre-planned tours run from 1pm until 5pm daily.

For a full list of tours that they offer visit their itinerary page.

This is not led by a tour guide so Drink Williamsburg is just providing transportation, drink tastings, and tours of the venues are sometimes included based on availability.

Breweries With Food in Williamsburg

Most of the breweries in Williamsburg, VA do not offer on-site food options all the time except for Precarious Beer Project and Billsburg Brewery.

At Precarious Beer Project you can get unique tacos, burritos, and nachos from Electric Circus Taqueria.

Billsburg Brewery has The Hungry Pug food truck that is there seven days a week. They serve things like cheese curds, beer cheese, and all kinds of sandwiches with cheese on them.

Virginia Beer Company and Alewerks Brewing have rotating food trucks and will usually announce on their Facebook pages who will be there.

You can also check their event calendars on the website.

Brew Pubs in Williamsburg, VA

Looking for restaurants to check out that also sell great craft beer? Here are a few brew pubs in Williamsburg.

DoG Street Pub is located in Market Square and is another great spot for lunch or dinner when exploring Colonial Williamsburg.

In the Historic Area, you’ll find Amber Ox Public House which serves New American type food and is a popular farm-to-table restaurant.

At The Brass Tap Williamsburg, you’ll find over 150 craft brews. They also have a great menu full of small plate items or tacos, burgers, and sandwiches if you want a full entree.

The Brauhaus Craft Bier Room is located in Busch Gardens which makes it a fun and unique one! I don’t think I would consider this one a restaurant, though they do offer a few snacks and a Reuben sandwich.

If you are visiting Busch Gardens, make sure to check out these tips for Busch Gardens Williamsburg .

Tour Information

You have heard the hype, now come see what it’s all about!  Williamsburg is home to the Brooklyn Brewery, tons of vintage clothing shops, organic coffee houses and, of course, excellent food.  Trendy neighborhood hot-spots combine with historic bakeries and markets to make for a truly diverse eating experience.  Try it all on our Williamsburg Food Tour.

Join Free Tours by Foot as we lead you on an eating tour through the hippest section of Williamsburg, along Bedford Avenue. You’ll sample one of the city's best falafel plates, enjoy buttermilk biscuits with honey and jam straight from the farm, taste exclusive Mast Brothers chocolate, visit local cheese shop loved by foodies, and try the unlikely "chicken" drumsticks from a vegan fast food joint that's distinctly "Brooklyn."  Then take a short walk to South Williamsburg’s Hasidic section for babka and rugelach!
