The open air buses travel in a loop to take in all the iconic sights of Paris. As the name implies, you can hop off at any of the stops, then explore the area before hopping back on again. No questions asked, no transfers needed.

The way we like to use the bus pass is to hop off at each of the stops spend some time walking around and digging deeper in the quartier before making our way back to the bus stop and hopping back on. The next bus rolls around often, so there's not much waiting.

Paris has several tour bus operators . The most renowned are OpenTour, Big Bus Paris and Foxity Sightseeing Tour. Find in-depth information about what each company offers and choose the best option.

All sightseeing buses in Paris are open-top double-deckers and include an audio guide in English .

We provide you with information on each of the different tour bus operators so you can choose which one you prefer:

Paris OpenTour

The OpenTour bus is yellow and blue and allows its passengers to hop off and hop on as many times as they want during the validity of their ticket.

Paris OpenTour has three different routes with over 34 stops and passengers can choose any of these 3 lines and combine them without any problem.

• Blue line : Rides past the top landmarks of Paris, like the Louvre Museum, Champs-Élysées, Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, Les Invalides…
• White line : Travels down the left bank of the River Seine. It passes by the Catacombs of Paris, Boulevard Montparnasse, St. Germain-des-Prés, and the Pont Neuf, among others.
• Red line : This line includes the main attractions on the right side of the Seine, like the Moulin Rouge, Montmartre , and République, among others.    

Schedule & timetable

The routes and schedules of the OpenTour buses vary depending on the route and time of year . Between April and October, buses run from 9:30 am to 8 pm approximately and from November to March from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. The frequency also varies, ranging from 10 – 30 minutes.

Adults with a Paris Visite  travel card have a € 4 ( US$ 4.30) discount for the 1-day Open Tour and children under 4 travel for free. Those who want to combine the Batobus  with an OpenTour bus tour can purchase a special rate for a 2-day pass for both means of transport.

Big Bus Paris

Big Bus Paris (used to be called Les Cars Rouges) is the oldest tour bus operator in Paris. These buses are red , as the name used to suggest.

Paris is extremely well-lit up at night and it's worth discovering the city after dusk. This is why the Big Bus operator includes a tour of Paris at this time of day when visitors will be able to see the main monuments illuminated. 

Big Bus Paris has one line that takes a little over two hours with eleven stops . Passengers can hop off and hop on at any of the following stops:

• Eiffel Tower
• Champs de Mars
• Notre Dame Cathedral 
• Musée d'Orsay 
• Opéra Garnier
• Arc de Triomphe
• Grand Palais

The Big Bus Paris schedule is approximately from 9:30 am to 8:15 pm . However, it depends a lot on each stop. The last bus passes by the Louvre Museum or Notre Dame at 6:25 pm. The frequency varies between 10 and 20 minutes , depending on the time of year.

Foxity Sightseeing Tour

Foxity Sightseeing Tour was the last tour bus to arrive in Paris. At first, this company only included a bus tour without having the hop-on, hop-off option. However, due to pressure from tourists, it now allows its passengers to hop on and off.

Foxity also organizes night tours. 

The buses leave from the Eiffel Tower and its itinerary is very similar to the Big Bus Paris one. 

The timetable varies depending on the time of year. We recommend checking the times on their webpage . 

The ticket price is 42 EUR for adults ( € 49 ( US$ 52.70) for 2 days) . For children between 4 and 12 ticket price, is 23 EUR ( € 28 ( US$ 30.10) for 2 days) , and children under 4 years old take the tour for free.

Which tour bus to choose?

All of the above companies offer very similar services , although we recommend Paris OpenTour , as it has more routes and more stops, and therefore offers a more complete tour.

Les horaires et la fréquence de passage des bus de l’OpenTour sont différents selon la ligne empruntée et l’époque de l’année . Les bus circulent approximativement entre 09h30 et 20h00 entre avril et octobre, et jusqu’à 18h30 entre novembre et mars. La fréquence peut varier entre 10 et 30 minutes.

Le circuit du Big Bus Paris dure 2h15 et marque 11 arrêts. Sachez que vous pouvez monter et descendre autant de fois que vous le désirez afin de visiter Paris à votre rythme et en toute liberté . Les arrêts de ce bus sont les suivants :

Les bus de Foxity proposent également des tours nocturnes .

Le point de départ se situe à la Tour Eiffel . Les circuits réalisés par ces bus ressemblent fortement  à ceux du Big Bus Paris .

Les horaires diffèrent selon l’époque de l’année. Mieux vaut donc vérifier par avance les horaires sur le site internet officiel .

Le prix du billet de 24 h est de 42 € (45,30 US$ ) pour les adultes (2 jours : 49 € (52,90 US$ )). Le billet de 24 h pour les enfants de 4 à 12 ans coûte 23 € (24,80 US$ ) (2 jours : 28 € (30,20 US$ )) et le billet pour les moins de 12 ans est gratuit .

Les trois compagnies de bus offrent des services plus ou moins similaires, bien que selon nous, la meilleure option reste celle du Big Bus Paris .

This bus is not worth the trip to try to do hop on and hop off. It was slower than the camels I rode in Cairo once. Please don't waste your time and money on this one. It was part of our pass we bought, but still we felt like we wasted time going on this. It took forever from going to one point of interest to the next. Some of the stops were not available to go to due to season or timing. The bus was a double decker. You can sit in the top area to see the city views. The bus looked great from the outside but from the inside it was not very clean. If you do decide to buy the bus pass, there are 24/48 hour validation options. Side Note: When you get the receipt for the bus pass, the bottom of the receipt has WiFi information and password.

This is one of the hop on hop off in Paris I want after compared with Big Bus Paris with many reviews. I am happy they're very good! I have emailed the group sales office and the lady replied to me the next business day with a very good discount price for our group of 12. I paid for the group purchase by fill up the purchase form with my credit card information and scanned it than email it back to the group sales office at Open Tour Paris. They reply to me the next day with a bar code I can use to pick up all 12 tickets when we on board the first bus. They told me I can just show the driver my phone because I already on my trip to New York by the time I received the bar code. Very convenient! The hop on hop off buses are covered almost all the famous tourists locations. It is a very good choice if you have time. Paris traffic was very bad. I will take the subway if I am in a rush! But I enjoyed the ride with the Open Tour specially when the weather was good and I can setting on the upper level!

This is the bus company that the Tourist welcome center sells at the Central Station. This was your run of the mill hop on and off bus. Free headphones in all languages. If you are traveling with a family, I quite about the family pass. It is cheaper than buying individual tickets. The agents inside Central Station will tell you they can't don't honor the family pass rate and they claim the bus driver doesn't accept cards only cash...Tisk tisk...Bus drivers do accept card and cash and they honor the family pass price (2 adults and 2 kids 89Euro)

The worse commentary. Ever. Mostly playing music and not enough narratives. Driving is too fast and not slowing down for landmarks. It's true they have more routes but it's really not worth it if you want to learn something. I learned absolutely nothing. I took a city sight seeing tour bus in Florence and that was wayyyyy better. With lots of information and useful stops. Others on the bus were complaining as well and said red bus was the way to go. The good thing was we didn't have to wait at all the three times we switched buses. Maybe by good luck? Don't waste your money on this bus.

While visiting Paris for a week in June, we purchased a 3 day hop-on-hop off bus tour pass combined with the Paris by night tour. I actually really enjoyed both tours with Open Tour Paris, and I'd definitely recommend them to other visitors. The Paris by night tour was especially good! Personally, I found that the tours ran really frequently and there was only one time that I actually wait to really wait for the next bus (which did unfortunately take over a half hour and was pretty awful but we later discovered their bus had broken down). Other than that, in 3 days of using the bus I generally waited no more than 3-5 minutes for the bus to arrive. The bus stops themselves are really well labeled with a sign and were pretty much always near a bench, so that also made it really easy for us. Unfortunately, they do seem to drop you a bit further from most attractions than it looked like Paris Sighting and Big Bus did, however, that wasn't really a big issue for us. The tour routes themselves were good. They offer more expansive route options than the other bus lines and have 4 routes rather than 2 or 3. The buses seemed well maintained and weren't dirty or anything. They do have a little AC inside, but it was still pretty hot so we opted to sit on the top floor. The stairs up to the top level are pretty gnarly, but I have a feeling that's the case with any double decker bus. The commentary was nice and lined up pretty well with the route even though it's all pre-recorded. A lot of the time they played french music when there was nothing to comment on, but I actually quite enjoyed it. I wouldn't say the commentary was great, but it was fine and I don't think any better/worse than the other big hop-on-hop-off companies as they need to accommodate a wide range of languages. IF you want good commentary and want to ask questions or anything, I'd definitely recommend a real tour rather than the hop-on-hop-off option. I do want to point out that if you buy any of the combo tickets (boat cruise or night tour) then that has to be used on the first day you redeem your passes which isn't stated online. I HIGHLY recommend the night bus tour as it was fantastic. It took you slightly different routes than the day tour so you can see more of paris and the commentary was different as well. They have it really well timed and we got to watch the full 5 minute light show for the eiffel tower at 11pm literally front and centered (stopped in the middle of the street!) which was the highlight of my entire trip.

If you're staying in the 6th or 14th arrondissement, there are bus stops for you! At the time of this post, no other hop-on, hop-off company offered that service. I was extremely pleased that L'Open Tour had a stop across the street from my hotel. This convenience is the only reason that I chose this company. I'm so glad that I did! The drivers were on time both days that we used the service. My only desire would be a list of the actual times that buses can be expected at a particular stop. It's listed how often the buses will arrive, but you'd have to do some rapid math to determine when it will be at your location. The "Where's My Bus?" link shows the times that buses are available at that location. For example, 9:56-17:00 every 20 minutes. All of the drivers that I encountered were courteous and patient with my very, very, very limited French. On the first day, we rode all three lines. We stopped for lunch while on the red line and had time to complete all circuits in time to catch the final bus to our hotel on the white line. I agree that the buses stopped for several minutes at some locations. Based on the anticipated arrival time at the upcoming stop, the buses parked briefly at certain attractions (Notre Dame, the Catacombes, etc.). Admittedly, I would've been satisfied with a single day ticket. I'm fairly comfortable taking the Metro and traveled round trip on it to see the Eiffel Tower after sunset. I would say that this is a great option for first-time visitors to experience the various Parisian offerings. As someone who is not a first-timer, I still enjoyed the ride. High five Open Tour Paris!

Yes it is very touristy but overall for the price you get a lot. We got three days hop on and hop off plus a hop on and hop off water taxi for €50 each The actual tour information could be a tad better but overall not bad and buses do come rather frequently.... my parents use a different company when they came and said their problem was the other company did not run enough buses it seemed If you want to do the traditional hop on and hop off bus I would definitely recommend this company Also you can buy your ticket on any bus just get on and pay

Biggest advice: Don't be in any hurry. No hurry at all. The bus didn't even move until 22 minutes after our scheduled 1800 tour. We have to be at the Eiffel Tower in 2.5 hours. I hope we can now make it. Currently sitting on the bus after waiting in the rain. The bus is clean but the seats could of been dried for the tourist to sit on. The hot chocolate was handed out inside the tour office by 2 gals that I felt I was interrupting their conversation as they didn't even greet us or ask what we would like. No toilets in the office shop or on bus. I hope the hot chocolate doesn't go right through me. ;)-

Although our visit was more than a month after the Notre Dame fire, the bus routes on the website were still not updated with the very substantial route changes. There were no signs directing people to the new routes, many blocks away. There was never an answer at the company's support phone numbers, and messages were never returned. Thus we used a good chunk of our day walking in circles and chasing buses, trying to find the routes and then a stop. Because once we finally happened upon the changed route, there were very few stops on the detours, and the buses just ignored is and roared by. We had also tried to book a day tour plus boat tour, and somehow ended up with a day plus night tour. Given the lack of phone support, we took the Métro the next day to the office, where we were told there was nothing they could do because it was an online order, and had to be handled online. Of course, no surprise, there was never a response to our efforts to get help online. No reply at all. They had our money, that's all they wanted. We got a LOT of extra exercise, wasted 98 euros on this trash, crooked bunch of thieves, and paid another company for a boat tour. NEVER give these crooks your money.

Great concept with poor execution . System is very slow. We were stuck at the #6 stop for 50 min. Waited 20 min for a bus that was full, then another one came that was empty , but the driver opened the back door instead of the front and people proceeded to jump the fence desperately and boarded the bus, driver finally opened the front door letting us and the rest of polite people that stayed in line board the bus. Then we just sat there for 25 min. I have a 3 day pass that I won't use. We decided to take the metro from now on.

Russia and Moscow are synonymous with Red Square and the Kremlin and that's hardly surprising as you'll find these places absolutely stunning!

• - Nikolskaya Street. Here you will find the Russia's first publishing house, the second oldest monastery, and Ferryn Pharmacy, known as the number one pharmacy back in Soviet times and famous for its Empire-style architecture.
• - Ilinka Street. The financial street of the Kitaigorod (China Town) district, where you’ll find the Gostiny Dvor (Merchant’s Yard), which is now a showroom for Ferraris and Maseratis. The street was designed in the 1790s by Catherine the Great.
• - Varvarka street. The oldest street in Moscow, which dates back to the 14th century, and still has remnants of early Muscovite architecture, such as the Old English Court and the Palace of the Romanov’s.
• - Kamergersky Lane. Only a small road of about 250 meters, it is home to some of the oldest artifacts of the city, as each building holds a fascinating story. Some of Russia's most famous writers, poets, and composers from as far back as the Golden Age of Russian culture, have lived or worked on this lane.

Historic City Center

Walk the historical old center of Moscow with its cool local vibe, including the main Tverskaya street , and indulge in desserts in the first grocery “Eliseev's store” , housed in an 18th century neoclassical building, famous for its baroque interior and decoration.

From our tour. Impressions of our American tourist:

At 3:30, as energy flagged, lunch was on the agenda at a Ukrainian restaurant.  Just in time!  We asked our guide to order for us.  We all had the same thing....borscht (the Ukrainian version has beans and more tomatoes than the Russian version, which has more beets and includes beef). 

The special high bread served is called galushki.  Our main course was golubtsy...a dish of minced meat rolled in braised cabbage leaves.  Both dishes called for optional sour cream as a topping....of course, yes, please....I recommend it. 

Full, satisfied, and completely refreshed, it was off to Red Square and St. Basil's and GUM department store.  Red Square is not so named because of the color of the brick walls of the Kremlin.  Rather the word for 'red' and the word for 'beautiful' are similar in pronunciation....and, there you have it. 

As we made the turn by the National Museum in front of which is the mounted sculpture of the "Marshall of Victory," Giorgy Zhukov from WWII and caught our first view of St. Basil's, my friend and I simultaneously emitted "Oooohhhhh!"  There it was....the iconic onion domes of St. Basil's!  Hooray....it was open until 7....we had about 30 minutes and were allowed in, AND we could take photos with no flash. 

Now, I can give you a taste of what we saw in the other cathedrals in Cathedral Square.  What we learned is that St. Vasily and St. Basil are one in the same....Russian/English.  He was a common man who wandered Moscow unclothed and barefoot.  But, all, even Ivan the Terrible, heeded his opinions derived from his visions.  Ivan had this cathedral built over his tomb. 

As we exited and took photos up close of the onion domes, Inna presented us with chocolate (how did she know we were ready for another energy boost, and we each got a big piece of chocolate.  The baby's name pictured on the wrapper of this famous Russian chocolate is Alyonka....the Russian Gerber baby, don't you think? 

One could wear out the credit card in GUM's (capitalized because it is actually a government abbreviation), but the 'kitty' and my credit card stayed in my pocket as we strolled through the glass-topped arcade. 

We then strolled through some of Moscow's lovely pedestrian streets; paused to listen as a wonderful quartet performed Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in an underground passage to cross the busy street (hooray!....we DID have our 'classical concert' experience after all; a request Alina tried in vain to fill because none was scheduled those days), saw the Bolshoi, which means 'big' (my friend has yet to recover that their performance schedule did not coincide with our cruise), saw the Central Telegraph Building, dating from the 1930's, and made our way to the Ritz-Carlton to see the night view of Moscow from the rooftop bar, called O2. 

There were fleece blankets to wrap yourself in....yes, it got that cold when the sun set.  We each ordered something hot to drink...the ginger, mint, lemon tea served to me in a parfait glass (for 600 rubles...about $9....you pay for the view here!) was delightful and hit the spot perfectly.  It was time to call it a night....
