  • A 90 minute “hands on” laboratory experiment (See short descriptions of available experiments below.)
  • An additional 45 minutes to complete associated experiment worksheet

To provide a safe educational environment for students, fees are collected to offset the expenses associated with employing student lab supervisors.

Costs range from $100-$450 (plus HST) depending on your class size. An accurate quote will be provided once we receive your application form.

An official invoice will be issued and is payable within 30 days via EFT, wire, online payment, or cheque.

In-Person Laboratory Tour Application

Please allow up to 72 business hours for a response. Please contact Tanja Petrovic if you do not receive a response.

Experiment Descriptions:

Copper Cycles : In this experiment, students will start with elemental copper and will synthesize several copper compounds and finally recover the original elemental copper. Comparison of the final weight of copper obtained with the starting weight of copper will provide participants with a percent recovery yield. This experiment will introduce participants to performing simple chemical reactions. They will also learn basic laboratory skills and how to write observations.

If you require any further information, please contact Tanja Petrovic (Academic Department Manager) at [email protected]

Test Descriptions

VO2max Test: Determines the maximal amount of oxygen that can be utilized by the body, and is considered the “gold standard” measure of cardiorespiratory fitness. It is the most commonly used test of performance for athletes who compete in endurance sports (eg, cycling and running). The test involves exercising at progressively higher workloads on a stationary cycle or treadmill while breath samples are collected through a mouthpiece.

Wingate Test: Determines maximal power output during a 30 second “all out” sprint on a specialized cycle ergometer. The Wingate Test is extremely demanding and maximally stresses the body’s aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. It is the most commonly used test of performance for athletes who compete in strength and power sports, or those who perform short repeated bursts of activity (eg, hockey, rugby, soccer).

Body Composition Test. Measures a person’s body mass, using a very accurate electronic scale, and body volume, which is determined while sitting inside the BOD POD chamber. The BOD POD provides information on fat and fat-free mass, resting metabolic rate, and an estimate of a person’s daily energy (calorie) requirement.
