Nepal Tours & Vacations
Sitting on the spine of the world, sandwiched between the superpowers of China and India, you’ll find humble Nepal.
We’re not meant to play favorites, but when you’ve been running Nepal tours for three decades, the country kind of gets under your skin. Picture a tiny Himalayan country where sherpas trudge the mountain paths and prayer flags crisscross the sky, their fluttering Buddhist mantras waving in the breeze. Follow our leaders up to Everest Base Camp, trek the rhododendron forests of the Annapurna, track rhinos through Chitwan National Park or stuff your face with momos in the warren-like streets of Kathmandu's Thamel. Whichever type of Nepal trip you choose, we promise you one thing: you’ve never been anywhere like this.

Best time to visit nepal.
Nepal's climate is primarily temperate, with some tropical and alpine regions. From June until August, the monsoon hits, making it too wet and humid for trekking.
The post-monsoon period from September to November is rice-harvesting season and is characterized by lush vegetation, clean air, and excellent mountain views. Days are warm and sunny, although nights become increasingly cool. This is the start of the trekking season, which runs until May.
Winter (December to February) is dry and clear, with temperatures dropping below freezing at high altitudes, although in Kathmandu, it can still sometimes reach a pleasant 77ºF.
Spring (March to May) is warmer and is a particularly beautiful time to visit as the rhododendrons and the orchids are in flower.

Culture and customs
With more than 30 different ethnic groups and a wide range of religions and language dialects, Nepalese society is rich in diversity. With Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, and Mongolian influences, Nepalese food, clothing, customs, and music vary, depending on what area you're traveling in and what ethnicity people belong to or identify with.
Hinduism is the dominant religion, followed by Buddhism. Standing alongside these religions, there are also small populations of people who follow Islam and Christianity. Simultaneously, animist beliefs and belief in spirits are common throughout Nepal, particularly within rural communities.
Like India, the caste system exists in Nepal, as does the custom of arranged marriage. As one of the least urbanized countries in the world, life differs greatly between the rural and city-dwelling populations, with rural people largely living a very simple, traditional life - slow-paced, village-based, in connection to their family and local community. Nepalese people are generally very friendly and welcoming of travelers.
Eating and drinking
With Tibetan, Chinese, and Indian influences, Nepalese food is flavorsome without being too spicy, filling without being rich, and reasonably priced for travelers on a budget.
Things to try in Nepal
These fried or steamed dumplings are usually filled with meat or cheese. Comparable to Tibetan momos, kothey are flavoursome snacks that can usually be bought cheaply from street stalls or markets.
Popular with vegetarians and vegans, this lentil soup is usually served with rice and found almost everywhere in Nepal. A safe yet tasty choice for everyone.
This spiced meat curry will usually consist of chicken, buffalo, or mutton, as beef hardly features on the menu in Nepal for religious reasons.

Geography and environment
Landlocked Nepal shares borders with China and India and is home to a wide range of landscapes and habitats. As much as 75% of Nepal's land is dominated by hills and mountain ranges, including the world's highest mountain, but there's so much more to this region than Everest.
A lot of the country is known as the Terai region, characterized by forests, plains, marshes, and scrub, and within these varied landscapes are the many impressive animal species that inhabit this region. Chitwan National Park is perhaps one of the best places in all of Asia to see its incredible wildlife. Home to a variety of common and protected species, you may be able to spot some exciting house names like the single-horned Asiatic rhinoceros, leopard, and the Bengal Tiger.
History and government
Early history.
Nepal has been inhabited by people for more than 2,500 years, with evidence suggesting tribes of mountain-dwelling people moved to the area from China and other Central Asian regions. Due to a lack of archaeological evidence, little is known about the early periods of history in Nepal, with legend and folklore providing the backdrop to this kingdom of mystery. Ruled early on by the Kirati Dynasty, Nepal continued to be ruled by a succession of dynasties until the Malla Dynasty emerged in the 12th century. During this time, the kingdom expanded rapidly and widely before evolving into small communities with local rule. By the 15th century, many temples and palaces had been built in Nepal, some of which are still in existence either as functioning temples or UNESCO World Heritage sites. The kingdom of Nepal was unified by King Shah in 1768 and went on to sign commercial treaties with Britain in 1792 and 1816 after hostilities with the British East India Company.
Recent history
Nepal held its first elections in 1959, but with the king dissolving parliament and banning political parties soon after, Nepal's monarchy retained power. After decades of pro-democracy movements, Nepal was finally declared a democratic republic in 2008, with Nepal's monarchy being removed from power after ruling for more than 240 years. Nepal celebrated its Year of Tourism in 2011, with arrivals increasing year upon year since 2006 due to increased infrastructure, expansion of air travel, and the enduring popularity of the Himalayas and mighty Mount Everest. Learn about Nepal's climbing history at the International Mountain Museum in Pokhara during a Nepal trekking tour.
Top 10 must-visit places of Nepal
1. bhaktapur.
This ancient, cultural gem draws people in with temples, grand palaces, colorful festivals, beautiful art, and royal history. Walking the car, tuk tuk and rickshaw-free streets is a pleasant change from the electric energy of Kathmandu.
2. Langtang National Park
Featuring everything from tropical rainforest to perennial ice, Langtang National Park is an example of Mother Nature at her most extreme. With so much geographic diversity, it's no wonder you'll be able to spot a menagerie of creatures, including red pandas, musk deer, rhesus monkeys, and Himalayan black bears. Langtang is simply unmissable!
3. Kathmandu
Nepal's busy capital is an epicenter of trade, tourism, and history. Acting as a launching point for international visitors, Kathmandu is a handicrafts hot spot, hippy hangout, travelers' rest stop, and artistic enclave all at once.
Pretty Pokhara offers travelers attractive vistas, a tranquil ambiance, and views of three of the highest mountains in the world. Lakes, waterfalls, and canyons ensure visitors are well rewarded for the effort.
5. Bandipur
The hilltop town of Bandipur was once a very prosperous trading center and is now popular with tourists for its old-world charm, quiet atmosphere, and nearby national park teeming with wildlife.
6. Chitwan National Park
A conservation success story, this park has managed to preserve one of the most unique ecosystems in the world. Home to one-horned rhinos, wild elephants, hyenas, leopards, and more than 450 species of birds, visitors will delight in the thrilling wildlife-spotting opportunities here.
7. Annapurna Range
This popular trekking region can lay claim to some of the most beautifully treacherous peaks in the world. Surrounding valleys of green fields, wildflower-studded meadows, and lowland villages just add to the stunning views on offer.
8. Namche Bazaar
Once a trading post, now a popular stopover for Everest trekkers, the small settlement of Namche Bazaar is a fascinating place to spend a few days acclimatizing. With yaks, sherpas, small cafes, bakeries, and a vibrant weekly market, Namche Bazaar is a microcosm of Everest-life.
9. Seti River
White water raft your way down the Seti River while passing isolated jungles, flowing waterfalls, and white sandy beaches. See the natural landscape from a completely new viewpoint and bypass local villages, rice fields, and the famous suspension bridges found throughout Nepal - all in the most fun way possible.
10. Everest Base Camp
Sherpas, yaks, travelers, climbers, teahouses, and tent villages - nothing beats the electric energy of Everest Base Camp. All have come to either tackle the mighty mountain or stand in its epic wake. Either way, it's a privilege and the experience of a lifetime.
Arguably, the most interesting shopping in Nepal can be found in Kathmandu - with its vibrant local artistic community populating the markets and laneway shops with colorful art and handicrafts.
It's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to bring some items back into your home country. The United States and Canada generally have strict customs laws.
Things to buy in Nepal
1. Prayer flags
You don't have to be a spiritual person to appreciate the beauty of vibrant prayer flags. Take some home to inject a bit of Nepal into your home or backyard.
2. Scarves and wraps
Travelers will be able to find top-quality cashmere in the boutiques and markets of Nepal, so take the chance to stock up on colorful scarves, pashminas and wraps at good prices.
3. Buddhist art
Beautifully painted, colored thankas and mandalas are commonly found in the markets and shops of Kathmandu and make a meaningful souvenir to take back home.
Festivals and events
Phalgun festivals.
Kathmandu explodes into a whirlpool of color, dance, music, and rhythm with the annual Phalgun festivals - Losar, Shivaratri, and Holi. Expect everything from public bathing ceremonies to people committing extreme feats of weightlifting with their body parts! With Tibetan rice wine flowing and an amazing array of festive food on offer - this is a great time to be in Kathmandu.
Indra Jatra
This eight-day festival held in Kathmandu features ceremonies, dancing, and displays of spirituality, but none of these events compare to the spectacle of the third day when Kumari (the living goddess) tours the city streets aboard a chariot. Other popular gods also come out to play and parade, as masked dancers perform in Durbar Square in this exceptional display of local culture.
Mani Rimdu Festival
Offering a rare chance to observe the Sherpa culture of the Everest region, this festival held at Tengboche Monastery features days of meditation cycles, religious ceremonies, masked dances, and parades. This holy time for Buddhists sees locals travel by foot to receive blessings en masse against a stunning Himalayan backdrop.
Dates of Nepal's public holidays may vary.

Nepal travel faqs, do i need a visa to travel to nepal.
All foreign nationals (except Indian passport holders) require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are obtainable from embassies abroad, land borders (including borders with India & Tibet) and on arrival at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan Airport.
Getting a visa at the airport or land borders can sometimes take time due to long queues. There have been instances when travelers are asked to show proof of exit from the country, i.e., flight tickets. You may also need to provide two passport photos and the following fees in US dollars (subject to change, cash only). Other currencies are also accepted, although rates may differ.
This page is for general information only and may be subject to change. It is your responsibility to obtain relevant visa and travel information required for entry, departure and travel to each country or region you visit on your trip. You should confirm these with the relevant embassies and/or consulates.

Is tipping customary in Nepal?
While tipping isn't mandatory in Nepal, it's considered polite to leave service workers in restaurants and cafes a 10% tip if a service charge hasn't already been included in the bill.
What is the internet access like in Nepal?
Travelers will be able to access the internet in large cities like Kathmandu. Smaller towns, isolated areas and rural villages may have limited to no access, so prepare to disconnect when leaving the city.
Can I use my cell phone while in Nepal?
Cell phone coverage is generally good in urban areas, but can be patchy and less reliable in rural and mountainous areas. Ensure global roaming is activated on your phone before you arrive.
What are the toilets like in Nepal?
Squat toilets are the most common toilets in Nepal. Always carry your own toilet paper and soap or hand sanitizer, as they aren't usually provided.
Can I drink the water in Nepal?
It's not recommended to drink the tap water in Nepal. Filtered water is a better option, try to use a refillable canteen or water bottle rather than buying bottled water. Remember to avoid ice in drinks and peel fruit before eating.
Are credit cards accepted widely in Nepal?
Credit cards are usually accepted by modern hotels, restaurants and medium-large shops in tourist areas. Smaller shops, cafes, market stalls and places in remote areas probably won’t have facilities that support credit cards, so ensure you have enough cash to cover expenses while in rural areas or when visiting smaller vendors and bazaars.
What is ATM access like in Nepal?
ATMs can be found in Nepal's large cities. Smaller towns and isolated areas will have very few, or none at all, so have enough cash to cover purchases, as ATM access may not be available.
Is Nepal accessible for travelers with disabilities?
Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible , regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.
Airports are not yet equipped to international accessibility standards and there are few (if any) adapted vehicles available for hire. Only a few high-end hotels have custom built bathrooms i.e. with safety rails or roll in showers. Getting around can be challenging for travelers with disabilities as pedestrians often share the road with vehicles, cities and towns are crowded and streets winding and chaotic. Rickshaws and taxis can be hired easily in Kathmandu, although traffic congestion can be severe. Porters and assistants are readily available for trekking trips. The country is keen to make headway in the accessibility space, with an annual conference on Accessible Tourism being held since 2014 and a shift towards more positive attitudes in the way people with disabilities are perceived in the region. The first “accessible trekking trail” in the country was opened near Pokhara in 2018. Travel companies have arranged custom treks and adventures in Nepal for travelers with disabilities, including on the popular Everest Base Camp route.
Is Nepal a LGBTQIA+ friendly destination?
Everyone should feel comfortable when they travel with Intrepid, and we know that many of our travelers are part of the LGBTQI community. It’s important for our travelers to be aware of the local laws and customs in the destinations we visit, as some countries have laws that discriminate against LGBTQI people. We recommend you visit Equaldex and/or Smartraveller before you choose your trip for up-to-date advice and information about LGBTQIA+-related laws.
Nepal legalized homosexuality in 2007 and implemented protection by law on the basis of sexual orientation the same year. The new constitution of 2015 also contained a number of provisions for the LGBTQIA+ community, including the right to have a preferred gender on ID cards and allowance of some gender-neutral terms. It is expected that future ratifications of the constitution may include the legalization of same-sex marriage. Nepal recognizes a third gender (meti). Nepal Pride is an annual event held in Kathmandu since 2001 and the Nepal Tourism Board is keen to promote the country as an LGBTQI-friendly destination. Despite the openness of the laws, many LGBTQIA+ Nepalis face discrimination and societal pressure for heterosexual marriage, with harassment and violence, particularly for transgender people, not uncommon. For the LGBTQIA+ visitor to Nepal, it’s unlikely you will experience any difficulties or hostility. Holding hands with your partner is socially acceptable, but public intimacy is generally frowned upon as Nepal is still quite conservative in this regard.

Does my trip to Nepal support The Intrepid Foundation?
Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Nepal directly support our foundation partners, Sagarmatha Next and Seven Women.
Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Your travel insurance details will be recorded by your leader on the first day of the trip. Due to the varying nature, availability and cost of health care around the world, travel insurance is very much an essential and necessary part of every journey.

From handling the logistics and organizing amazing cultural activities to local leaders who know each destination like the back of their hand (like which street has the best markets and where to get the most authentic food), traveling on a small group tour with Intrepid will give you unforgettable travel experiences without the hassle that comes with exploring a new place. Apr 2023 I had an incredible experience trekking to Everest Base Camp with Explore Himalaya. Our guides were absolutely amazing. They provided us with exceptional support and guidance throughout the journey. The porters deserve special recognition too for their hard work and dedication. The entire journey was filled with breathtaking views and unforgettable experiences. From the start until the conclusion , every moment was filled with awe and wonder. I highly recommend Explore Himalaya for anyone seeking an unforgettable trekking experience in the Himalayas. Thank you to all the the staff, for making our journey truly exceptional!
13 Day Manaslu Circuit Trek Nov 2018 We have just returned to Kathmandu after a wonderful trek around the Manaslu circuit, starting in Soti Khola and finishing in Jaget. The trek and transport out and back to Kathmandu were very well organized. Our guide, Bharet Rana was excellent, arranging our tea-house accomodation and meals each day, without hitch. He was always good humoured and provided an interesting commentary on sights along the way.
Our Everest Base Camp trek was a wonderful and memorable one. Everything was very well organised. Thank you Explore Himalaya and the staffs for such an excellent service. We were taken care of from the moment we landed in Ktm till the day we left. The Guides and the Porters team of Explore Himalaya are very friendly and helpful. They took care of every little things during our trek. Some walked faster, some slowly and few could not but No one was left behind. They walk with your pace and motivates you until you get up. Anuj Pandey, MD of Explore Himalaya was available 24 hours a day when anybody was in need, he even flew to Namche to check if everything was going well and if everybody was doing good. The Guides Bibek Pandey, Bhuwan Tamang and Ram Rajbhandari along with their 5 Porters were the main pillars who made our mission accomplished. I'd highly recommend anybody who wants to travel to Nepal to contact Explore Himalaya and get themselves spoilt and entertained with their excellent service.

Suggested Route
Suggested itinerary for inspiration.
Your preferences design the real journey. We're ready to create a wonderful Nepal tour for you.
Arrive at Kathmandu. Meet our representative and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy your free time to acclimatize during the rest of day.
Start your tour from Kathmandu Durbar Square . Observe the spectacular art and architecture of the medieval and modern Malla (1201–1779) and Shah (1559–2008) dynasties.
Then, visit the sacred Hindu shrine Pashupatinath . It is also a crematorium. If you see a funeral at the cremation ghat (sacred riverfront), it could be a moment that stuns your soul.
Continue to Boudhanath Stupa to feel the piety of Tibetan Buddhism. The eyes on the golden pagoda might impress you a lot.
Visit the "Monkey Temple" at the end. You will find out how well Hinduism and Buddhism combine there.
Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara in the morning for a very enjoyable boat ride on Phewa Lake in the afternoon. The pretty scenery with the snow-capped mountains will make you feel that you are in Switzerland.
First, visit the Davis Falls . See the meltwater from the mountains plunge into the underground plunge pool, and maybe encounter a lovely rainbow.
Then, explore Gupteshwor Mhadev Cave for the huge stalagmites worshiped as a Shiva Lingam (a symbolic representation of the god Shiva).
In the International Mountain Museum , listen to stories of mountaineers and local people who love their Himalayan homeland. Then enjoy magnificent mountain views at World Peace Pagoda.
Head to Sarangkot for the beautiful sunrise over the Annapurna Range in the early morning, and then drive to Chitwan. It will take about 5 hours (145 km) to Chitwan. It is also possible to take a flight.
in the afternoon, walk around Tharu Village to see the ethnic people of the area, and stay for a sunset view. Enjoy Tharu dancing with dinner .
Explore the jungle by a jeep . Meet the rhinoceroses, deer, and birds. If you are lucky, you may see leopards, wild elephants, and sloth bears. Take a 1-hour canoe ride to see the crocodiles.
Visit the Tharu Museum in a less touristy village — Harnari. It is the best place to experience Tharu culture.
Drive from Chitwan to Nagarkot (about 6 hours) for an excellent view of the snow-capped Himalayan Range.
Transfer to Nagarkot tower to watch sunrise and majestic mountain s in the early morning.
Drive back to Kathmandu via Bhaktapur . Visit the Golden Gate, Palace of 55 Windows, Taleju Temple, Datratra Square, and Pottery Square. Visit Patan Durbar Square in the afternoon, including Krishna Mandir, Patan Museum, some beautiful temples, and a monastery.
We'll effortlessly get you to the airport for your departure.

How to plan your dream trip to the Himalayas

For mountain lovers and the vertically inclined the Himalayas represent nothing less than the crowning apex of nature's grandeur. Here dramatic forested gorges rise to skylines of snow-capped glaciated peaks through a landscape that ranges from high-altitude desert to dripping rhododendron forest.
Home to some 50 million people, this is no alpine wilderness, but rather a vibrant mosaic of peoples, cultures and communities, criss-crossed by ancient trading and pilgrimage routes that offer their own unique inspiration. Test your mettle against some of the world's most audacious and dangerous roads, or set a more measured pace on a trek through yak pastures to prayer flag-strewn passes haunted by snow leopards and red pandas. Stretching in a 1550 mile-long arc (2500km) across Asia from Kashmir to Kathmandu , Lhasa to Ladakh , the Himalayan range is a big place. Focus your pilgrimage on one of these dream trips.
Ladakh – India's little Tibet
Hidden over high passes in an arid, largely treeless rain shadow, Ladakh is classic Trans Himalayan scenery: huge khaki-colored valleys and harsh rock walls brought alive by the occasional splash of irrigated green. Traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture remains intact here, with spectacularly located monasteries that burst into life during medieval masked dance festivals that have changed little in 500 years. Travelers should expect epic treks, sparkling high-altitude mountain lakes, and a well developed infrastructure with inexpensive guesthouses around the capital, Leh .
When to go: June to September.
Getting there: Daily flights from Delhi to Leh, or take the spectacular seasonal high roads over the Himalayas from Manali or Srinigar .
Suggested itinerary: Hire a jeep or an Enfield motorbike and drive out to ancient Hemis , Lamayuru and Thiksey monasteries, taking a side trip to the turquoise lake of Pangong Tso bordering Tibet ; afterwards, do a five-day homestay trek through the Markha Valley.
Off the beaten track alternative: Spiti , in neighboring Himachal Pradesh , has the same dramatic mountain scenery and monasteries but without the crowds. Trek from village to village with a local organization and overnight at the incredible monasteries of Dhankar and Tabo .
Tibet – roof of the world
The high Tibetan plateau is the rooftop of Asia, hidden from the Indian subcontinent behind the ramparts of the Great Himalaya. Despite Chinese-led modernization, Tibet 's great monasteries still hum with murmured mantras and the flicker of yak butter lamps. Sublime landscapes, ranging from rolling grasslands to high-altitude turquoise lakes, a vibrant Buddhist culture and the friendly and resilient Tibetan people are the highlights here, as are the views of Everest's North Face – miles better than anything you'll see in Nepal.
When to go: Mid-May to September.
Getting there: Flights to Lhasa from Chengdu , Beijing and many other cities in China , or take the world's highest train from China to Lhasa.
Suggested itinerary: Join a tour for the seven- to ten-day overland trip from Lhasa to Kathmandu, stopping at the incredible multistory stupa (structure containing Buddhist relics) at Gyantse and the spectacular medieval monastery at Sakya.
Off the beaten track alternative: Complete a rugged three-day trek around Asia's most sacred peak, Mt Kailash , in remote Western Tibet, and then visit the incredible Kashmiri-influenced art of Tsaparang and the Guge Kingdom, hidden deep in the weirdly eroded desert gorges of the Sutlej Valley. Paved roads and an airport outside Ali make the two-week trip much less arduous than it used to be, though you still have to hire transport and a guide through an agency in Lhasa or Kathmandu.
Nepal – a trekker's paradise
The best way to experience the mountains is on foot, and Himalayan treks just don't get any more spectacular or convenient than in Nepal . Follow mountain paths past lines of spinning prayer wheels and charming stone Sherpa or Tamang villages to the foot of jaw-dropping 8000m peaks like Annapurna or Everest, safe in the knowledge that at the end of the day you’re guaranteed a cozy bed and hot dinner. Add on a visit to the medieval cities of the Kathmandu Valley , once a Himalayan artistic powerhouse.
When to go: March, April, October, November.
Getting there: Fly to Kathmandu and hop on a domestic flight to Lukla for the Everest region. Pokhara is the launch pad for treks in the Annapurna region.
Suggested itinerary: To trek to Everest Base Camp you need a minimum of 14 days, but we recommend adding on a four day side visit to the stunning mountain lakes of the Gokyo valley. Factor in ample time to acclimatize.
Off the beaten track alternative: The 17-day walk around Manaslu is possibly Nepal's greatest teahouse trek (you stay in lodges along the way), or go camping expedition-style on an epic three-week trip to the Dolpo or Kanchenjunga regions.
Bhutan – the last Shangri-la
As the last surviving great Himalayan kingdom, Bhutan has an otherworldly air that seems rooted in another age. Traditional dress is the norm everywhere, old-growth forest carpets the majority of the countryside and remote Himalayan peoples like the Layaps and Brokpas live a life largely untouched by the modern age. Simply put, Bhutan is like nowhere on earth. The catch? The fixed minimum daily rate of US$250 per person is mandatory, although this does include transport, meals, guide and accommodation.
When to go: March, April, September, October.
Getting there: Fly to Paro from Delhi or Bangkok, or drive overland from neighboring India.
Suggested itinerary: Explore the delightful Paro Valley and its iconic Tiger's Nest Hermitage (Taktshang Goemba) before driving to the little-visited Haa Valley, the tiny capital of Thimphu and the sensual fortress-monastery of Punakha. Schedule your visit around one of Bhutan's colorful tsechus (monastic festivals).
Off the beaten track alternative: The tiny Himalayan kingdom of Mustang in Nepal also comes with a hefty daily permit cost (US$500 per person), though you'll get a chance to explore centuries-old Tibetan architecture and may even gain an audience with the king.

Private Nepal Luxury Tour
The most physically fit can go on fully-assisted treks through ancient pine forests, past yak herders and tiny villages. Stupendous views of Himalayan peaks and high-altitude lakes are just some of the pleasures of traversing this country on foot. In the cold mountain air, warming thukpa , the local hot noodle soup, and meat-filled momos are supremely comforting. As is a soothing Bhutanese dotsho , a hot-stone bath.
On a mountain flight where everyone gets a window seat, your Nepal holiday gets dialed up a notch. Snow glistens on towering Mount Everest , and rocky cliffs and immense snowfields feel close enough to touch.
At the other end of the country in Chitwan National Park , situated in the dense riverine forests of the Terai region, safaris take you to see the endangered one-horned Asiatic rhino and other wildlife.
Nepal is about mountains, dramatic vistas, and Himalayan cultures. It is a world-class trekking destination, but even those who don’t want a challenging walk, can do short 2-3 days trips or one-day hikes into the mountains.
Picturesque Pokhara , on the shores of Phewa Lake , is a popular starting point for walks and treks. As the sun rises over the mountains at the Sarangkot viewpoint, you’ll be glad you woke up early to catch the magnificent sight. Beyond the walking, travelers enjoy kayaking or boating on the lake.
The capital Kathmandu’s streets and markets are as busy as its Hindu and Buddhist temples. A 2015 earthquake caused extensive damage to UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu , Patan , and Bhaktapur , and restoration work is still on.
To catch a glimpse of Nepali village life, stop off at the quaint Newari village of Bandipur , en route to Pokhara. For a different experience, you can visit the high-altitude Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar in the Everest region. Nepal’s Sherpas are famous for their mountaineering and guiding skills. Reliable as them, Enchanting Travels destination guides will gladly act as your personal sherpa, ensuring you get an exceptional itinerary perfectly suited to your needs.
