Margaritaville at Sea fleet

Margaritaville islander, margaritaville paradise, review of margaritaville at sea.

Margaritaville at Sea is a new travel brand and cruise line (2023-founded/2024-inaugurated) that specializes in voyages from Florida USA to The Bahamas the whole year round. The company operates via a long-term partnership with Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line (shipowner) which two ships are chartered and branded as "Margaritaville at Sea".

The Margaritaville Cruise Line is separately owned and not a subsidiary of Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville (1985-founded, USA-based hospitality company that manages and franchises a restaurant chain, retail stores, and hotels).

Margaritaville At Sea

In early-December 2021 was announced that Margaritaville Resorts & Hotels (Florida-based hospitality group) signed a partnership deal with the shipowner Paradise Cruise Line Operator Ltd to start a new cruise brand (Margaritaville at Sea) to be inaugurated with Grand Classica in 2022. The ship (renamed "Margaritaville Paradise") was scheduled to start service for "Margaritaville at Sea" with the Maiden Voyage on April 30, 2022, following an extensive wetdock refit at Grand Bahama Shipyard (Freeport).

  • The Margaritaville cruise line is expected to add more ships to its future fleet, with Margaritaville Paradise being the first one.
  • The deal was signed by John Cohlan (Margaritaville's CEO) and Oneil Khosa (Bahamas Paradise's CEO, who will also serve as Margaritaville Cruise Line's CEO).
  • Margaritaville Paradise continues the regular 2-night cruise schedule from Palm Beach to Freeport. The shipowner remains the same (Paradise Cruise Line Operator Ltd).
  • After supply chain disruptions affected the ship's wetdocking, Margaritaville at Sea brand's inauguration was postponed by two weeks (from April 30th to May 13th, 2022).

On October 16, 2023, Carnival Corporation (as shipowner) officially confirmed the sale of the 23-year-old Costa Atlantica (through its subsidiary Adora Cruises Ltd ) valued at USD 64,6 million (~EUR 61M). The new shipowner (yet to be revealed) will charter the vessel to Margaritaville at Sea/Bahamas Paradise which will operate it under the new name "Margaritaville at Sea Islander" ( Margaritaville Islander ).

On December 4, 2023, the company confirmed that Costa Atlantica officially joined the fleet (under the name "Margaritaville At Sea Islander") and is scheduled to start Caribbean voyages leaving roundtrip from Tampa Florida on June 14, 2024 (Maiden Voyage).

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line

Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line (bahamasparadisecruise.com) is a travel brand owned by the Bahamas-based company "Paradise Cruise Line Operator Ltd", that changed ownership on December 22, 2016. Among the new company's owners is Kevin Sheehan - former CEO and President of NCLH ("Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings"), who resigned NCL in January 2015.

The company is the successor of the Imperial Majesty Cruise Line (1999-founded/2009-defunct). Imperial Majesty Cruise Line was a budget travel company and specialized in mini-cruises (2-3-day roundtrips from Port Everglades) to Nassau . The company owned one ship (Regal Empress, IMO 5262835, 1953-built/2009-scrapped) and officially ceased operation on March 9, 2009. In the same week, its shipping business/schedule was replaced by Celebration Cruise Line (Bahamas Paradise).

The company's current CCO (since 2021) is Francis Riley (former employee of Thomas Cook UK, British Airways' Avios Group Ltd, NCL-Norwegian , Tourico Holidays, EMEA Recruitment, Traveltek). In 2019, Riley joined Bahamas Paradise as Senior VP of Sales. The company's CEO (and co-owner) is Oneil Khosa (former Royal Caribbean employee/first officer, founder of "Blue World Voyages"/India, investment banker).

In August 2016, Kevin Sheehan became CEO and President of the Las Vegas-based Scientific Games Corporation (a leading developer of technology products and services for the worldwide gaming and lottery industries). The cruise company's other owner (with 50% stake) is Oneil Khosa (India-based "Blue Ocean Cruises" company's CEO and Managing Director). Until 2014, Blue Ocean operated short breaks (1-, 2- and 4-night itineraries) leaving from Mumbai-Bombay and Mormugao-Goa .

In mid-November 2020 was unofficially announced that the ship Grand Celebration had been sold for scrap metal (for an undisclosed sale price). The vessel left Freeport Bahamas on November 15th, allegedly heading to India's Alang Shipbreaking Yard (world's largest), with estimated arrival on January 3rd, 2021. On January 2nd, the 34-year-old liner arrived and anchored off Alang, and on January 14th was beached for scrapping.

As the only cruise shipping company operating roundtrips out of Palm Beach Florida , Bahamas Paradise provides its customers with expedited boarding (30-min embarkation/disembarkation) and valet parking (at the cruise terminal).

  • Cruise passengers are also offered Bahamas "cruise and hotel" packages in Bahamian hotels. These deals offer 2-, 4-, and 6-night Bahamas hotel stays to be combined (booked together) with Palm Beach roundtrip voyages.
  • MS Grand Celebration ship is a former Carnival Cruise Lines vessel and operated under charter (leased), while the fleet-mate MS Grand Classica (former Costa neoClassica is fully-owned. Classica was purchased in December 2017 and entered service in April 2018.
  • In 2017, the company had booked around 250,000 passengers, around half of whom were from South Florida.
  • MS Grand Classica was opened for booking in February 2018. The company's promos were "Buy One - Get One Free". These free cruise deals were limited to 1 week only, and bookable on both liners.
  • "Sail Away Your Way" promo deals offered free cruising for kids 12-year-old and under (when traveling with 2 full-paying guests) and free entertainment for adults. The promo offer was valid for cruises through February 12, 2019, if these deals were booked by December 12, 2018. USD 25 pp bonuses were additionally offered as either casino credit, spa credit, photo credit or onboard credit (to be used for drinks, dining or shore excursions).

The regularly scheduled Florida-Bahamas short-breaks are very popular among both American and Bahamian citizens as they provide a cheap shopping travel alternative. Bahamas Paradise estimated that these tourists spend ~USD 4,5 million annually.

Port West Palm Beach (Florida) cruise port

From both ships, Port Palm Beach projected between USD 54-63 million in net income over a period of 10 years (2018-2028), depending on the handled passengers' number. The liners' combined passenger capacity is nearly 1,3 million per year. The company's monthly dockage fees (for both ships) are USD 50,000.

In early-February 2019, the company started offering (upon request) 6 new themed-food menus (2x Chinese, 2x Indian, 2x Vegan cuisine specialties) available for groups fleetwide and year-round. The new Chinese menus include Sichuan Eggplant, Hunan Style Crispy Whole Red Snapper, Crispy Tangerine Beef. Vegan dishes include Coconut Soup, Crispy Hearts of Palm Cakes, Caramelized Parsnip, Zucchini Lasagna, Potato-Mushroom Burgers. Indian dishes include Tandoori Chicken, Pan-seared Prawns, Paneer Tikki Masala, Kheer and Warm Gajar Halwa (pudding). The new menus are also available for individual request (must be made in advance upon booking or onboard / at ship's Reception).

Also in June 2018, the company dropped its single supplements on all oceanview staterooms. No single supplement daily cruise rates start at USD 149 per person.

In September 2018, the company signed a partnership deal with Fit Bodies Inc, providing passengers aged 16 and older with free workout classes (Zumba, Yoga, and fitness) led by certified instructors. The new program was introduced on Grand Celebration (Sept 2018) and on Grand Classica (since January 2019).

(Coronavirus crisis) passenger shipping pause 2020-2021

Due to the COVID pandemic, Bahamas Paradise suspended its fleet's passenger shipping operations (both vessels) by canceling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures between March 15, 2020, and May 31, 2021.

Grand Classica ship was planned to restart mini-cruises to Grand Bahama Island (Freeport) on December 18, 2020. Grand Celebration ship was scheduled to restart voyages to Bahamas (Nassau) on March 3, 2021. However, these plans were canceled and both vessels remained out of service, and later Grand Celebration was scrapped .

Bahamas Paradise ships were intended to operate at 60% max passenger capacity , by closing two cabin decks on each liner. All affected bookings received a full (100%) monetary refund, including on prepurchased through the cruise company packages and services. A 125% refund in FCC (future cruise credit) was given with rebooking.

The company resumed the USA-Bahamas service on July 8, 2021, with Grand Classica.

Itinerary of Margaritaville at Sea

In May 2018, Grand Classica (fka Costa neoClassica/now Margaritaville Paradise) joined MS Grand Celebration as the second ship in the fleet of the Florida-based company "Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line". At the end of August 2017, Port Palm Beach District Commission signed a 10-year agreement for the former Costa cruise ship, to service the Florida-Bahamas route West Palm Beach - Freeport .

Margaritaville Paradise has a regularly scheduled itinerary program of 3-day / 2-night Bahamas cruises to Freeport and back to Palm Beach FL.

On December 4, 2023, the company confirmed that the former Costa Atlantica (2000-built/23-year-old) officially joined the fleet (being chartered as "Margaritaville At Sea Islander"). Starting in June 2024 (inaugural cruise date June 14th), Margaritaville Islander is scheduled for Caribbean voyages leaving roundtrip from Tampa Florida . MAS Islander's itinerary program is based on year-round homeporting in Port Tampa Bay and 4-night and 5-night cruises visiting Key West (Florida) and Mexico's ports Cozumel  and  Progreso/Merida .

On April 26, 2024, Margaritaville at Sea opened for booking MAS Paradise ship's 4-night voyages visiting Key West (Florida) and Freeport (Grand Bahama). The schedule listed departure dates in September through December 2024. Fares started at US$169 per person with double occupancy. Leaving on Mondays and returning on Fridays, the company listed as available dates September 16-20, September 30-October 4, October 14-18, November 25-29, and December 9-13.

In 2017, Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line signed with The Bahamas a 3-year deal (until 2020) to bring both vessels (Celebration and Classica) to Grand Bahama Island on 2-night itineraries. With both ships, the company now has an annual passenger shipping capacity of 0,5+ million.

Grand Celebration itinerary program was based on 2-night / 3-day Bahamas cruises leaving from Palm Beach (Riviera Beach) Florida . The ship offered mini-cruises to Bahamas ( Freeport ) 3 or 4 times a week. Sadly, in January 2021 the vessel was beached and scrapped at Alang India .

Since Hurricane Matthew (September-October 2016) damaged Freeport, the Grand Celebration was diverted to Bimini Islands but resumed calling on Freeport on January 3, 2017.

Port Palm Beach receives around USD 4 million a year from the ship in port fees and cruise parking. Port commissioners signed the agreement with the new shipowner (Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line) on December 15, 2016. With LOA length 223 m (733 ft), MS Grand Celebration is the max size the Palm Beach port can handle. The fleet-mate MS Grand Classica's length is 220 m (722 ft).

2-night / 3-day Bahamas cruise itinerary

  • Day 1 (embarkation at Port Palm Beach Florida USA) - check-in at 11 a.m., ship boarding at 12 noon. Passengers must be on the ship by 4 pm. Departure is at 5:30 pm.
  • Day 2 (Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas) - arrival in Freeport is at 8 am. Departure from Freeport is at 5 pm. Passengers must be back on the ship by 4:30 pm.

Conch fritters in the Bahamas

I want to start off by saying this is a great introductory cruise to go on if you have never been on one before, which was the case for my boyfriend and I. We just went on the Grand Classica from Tuesday-Thursday to Grand Bahama Island. We wanted to take a short cruise somewhere relaxing and that is what we got. We got a pretty good deal overall, which was great as well. I would give the entire experience 4/5 stars. We were set to leave on Tuesday and I received an email on Saturday stating that we were required to get tested for COVID-19 prior to boarding. This was never an issue, but the woman I spoke with previously told me that vaccinated guests were not required to be tested. This change came abruptly with little notice. The worst part was that guests were required to pay $25.00 to be tested, when COVID tests are free everywhere else. The way that they get you is that they give you the $25.00 back in the form of credit to use on the ship. This was definitely annoying, but we got through it. First of all, check-in was relatively smooth and simple. The front desk staff was friendly and polite and good customer service seems to be rare these days. After checking in, there was the option to purchase additional packages, such as alcohol or spa deals. Once we boarded the boat, we got to our cabin to settle in, which was the interior cabin. We had no issues with the actual cabin other than the bed was very uncomfortable. We were told that we reserved a queen bed for two but it was actually two twin beds pushed together, making it somewhat difficult to sleep comfortably. Other than that, it was clean, and the staff was quick to bring us any extras we needed. After we settled in, we went straight to lunch at the Ocean View Buffet. I was pleasantly surprised by our options and we ate a hefty lunch. A plus is that meals are included and only speciality dining is an extra charge. The ship has plenty of things to do aside from dining, such as a fitness center, a pool and jacuzzi, a spa, a casino, and more. We spent a lot of time exploring and catching great ocean views from the top deck. We had dinner at the Yellow Elder which was more of a fancy restaurant than the buffet. The food was decent and servers were wonderful. However, like my boyfriend said, be sure to bring your own hot sauce or preferred condiment because the food does lack sufficient flavor and seasoning. That night we actually hit a storm with 70 mph winds which made me a bit anxious, especially since we have never been on a cruise before. The captain reassured us by coming on the loud speaker to keep us updated about our sail. We decided to book an excursion for the next morning when we would arrive to the island. There were a few options, but we chose swimming with the pigs to try something different. I was super excited about this. The Grand Bahama Island was beautiful. Our bus driver who gave us a tour on the way there and back was so awesome. Swimming with the pigs was definitely an experience to remember and I do recommend it, especially if you are an animal lover like me. Arriving back on the ship, we went to dinner at the Yellow Elder again. Keep in mind that the dinner portions are extremely small. When we made it back to our room, I felt sick and I ended up throwing up. I am not sure if it was something I ate or maybe from the sun, because I did get a pretty good sunburn. Either way, I had a pretty rough night following that. One downside of the cruise was that I paid $25.00 for WiFi but it never actually worked. I made multiple calls to the front desk about it and they tried to tell me it was due to weather but I let them know that my boyfriend's worked fine for the most part. They said they'd call IT, but I never actually heard back. I am still waiting to see if they refunded me or not since I was never able to use it. Overall, this was a pretty good experience for our first cruise, with just a few hiccups. We learned a lot and we will know how to best be prepared for our next trip.

Amazing 2 day trip to the Bahamas for a family of 5. Ship was at half capacity so no long lines. We opted for the suite with concierge package. As for excursion we chose swimming with the pigs. Hands down recommend for a short getaway. Fine dining was great but much better pre pandemic. (This is my second trip with them). Fine dining servers and massages top notch and worth the splurge! *great trip for first timers or if you only have a couple days to getaway and destress.* if you're closer to Miami they have better cruise ships hands down. My first trip with them was not as enjoyable as the ship was filled to capacity. Downside: pools are closed due to pandemic. Only one hot tub in working condition.

A decent deal. Food and service are exceptional! Enjoyed the ship, not alot to do on the Island. Would definitely go again.

We watch this ship come and go every week. Decided to take a chance. Honestly, we were completely surprised!

Went on a short cruise and it was a nice getaway. It was also inexpensive as well to purchase a ticket. Only did thing was a lot of extra additional charges that I had to come out of pocket but anyway. The next time I will book an all exclusive cruise for sure. The ship was a little older than some other cruisers I have been on before but like I said it was inexpensive and a short getaway to the Bahamas! Anyway the shows was okay except the rock show, that sucked! Lol the best show in my opinion was the comedian "Tight Mike" he was funny. The food was good and they had two menus in one book the non paying side and the paying side. Non paying menu I had for all of the days onboard was prime rib and veggies, seafood chowder, baked salmon and veggies. Taco and breakfast buffet. Paying side- escargot, Coke Zero, pina colada, Bahamas mama, lemoncello cake. We was able to dock onto Freeport and had to pay $14 round trip tax to go to the beach. As soon as you come outside you will be welcomed by multiple taxi men offering rides. Unfortunately there was too much for us to do due to the recent storm but tried to spend as much as possible to help those poor families that rely on tourist to spend money. Overall decent trip!

Horrible Trip! What a waste of money. 2days 2many. Couldn't wait to come home. No AC NO hot water, TV broken, tiny tiny shower with no water pressure. Wifi service sucked, food was nasty, and entertainment was not entertaining. I will never go back and don't recommend anyone else to. Also if you go never go off ship without paying for package in ship. The locals will rip you off! Everything is super expensive! Ruined my experience of the Bahamas. Never again... Carnival is so much better than this cruise line.

Photo of Patrick W.

We went on the Jimmy Buffet Margarita Cruise to Freeport, Bahama from W. Palm Beach. I thought the value was good, until we received unknown charges for each passenger, including fuel surcharges and a service fee per passenger. We contested the charges as many passengers were in line contesting these charges and other miscellaneous charges. They wouldn't let you leave the ship without payment. I never had these surprise charges on other cruise ships. It reminded me of being in a third world country and some places in Mexico of either pay up or you can't leave. I am a big Jimmy Buffet fan, but this does not good for his reputation, although I figure his involvement is in name only for the money and not involved.

This cruise by far exceeded all of my expectations. All from the customer service, to the free-buffet, the drinks and the room. I wish I could comment on the upgraded dinner, however, I decided not to since the buffet was so delicious. Getting on and off ship is easy peasy. I would highly recommend to bring your passport with you as that will get you in and out 10x faster. If you do not bringing your passport, expect long wait lines; especially during disembarking. The Grand Classica offers free breakfast buffet, dinner buffet AND midnight buffet, all of which were super scrumptious. Before booking my cruise, I read many negative reviews on the food which was making me second guess this cruise. Those people must have been some very picky eaters, or they were expecting top notch, 5 star quality because I couldn't disagree more with them. The room in itself was almost spotless. Also I was taken a back by how much room there is. The bathroom is a good size, the shower was alright since the curtain is a little flimsy but it wasn't bad. I do want to give a shoutout to our floor man, Yuri for being very friendly and going out of his way to answer all my questions. He always greeted my group with a smile. The staff overall were very friendly and definitely know about GOOD customer service. The DJ did a great job, especially in the late- night adult only sports bar. All in all, I am writing this review to convince you to BOOK YOUR TRIP!! Don't get caught up in the negative reviews like I almost did... Come to notice, all of those bad reviews were very minuscule things that do not effect nor apply to everyone's complete experience.

We felt like VIP. The staff is friendly and the cruise was just what we wanted. Short and sweet. Definitely recommend this cruise. Coming back to see the new Margaritaville ship. Thanks to Luis we got an extra cabin for my daughter and her friend at no charge. We all had a really good time.

Not a bad cruise for what's its worth ! But note that food choices in the buffet is terrible ! They definitely need way more options for eating . Good enough drink package offered for me and my sister ! Decent entertainment on pool deck and theater ! Jazz person was great

I can honestly say we enjoyed the cruise. 4stars because upon boarding the ship our rooms weren't ready and there was really nothing to do except eat. However the dinning room was full with no sitting room since no one could get to their rooms yet. They were very straight forward about everything and how the charging system works so there were no surprises about our bill. Another issue was the fact that all activities were canceled for the day because they thought it would rain which it did for a few minutes but nothing that should have caused the activities to be canceled. Fortunately we were able to catch a tour with the local. There was a taxi service available that took us on a tour. That tour was definitely less expensive than the ones offered by the cruise line. Im also willing to bet we did more than we would have with the cruise line. We were taken through various neighborhoods and got a brief history about the neighborhood and the people there. Our drivers name was Clemmon aka shorty. He was really nice and allowed us to take our time checking out carious beaches and attractions the island had to offer. Back to the ship it was decent. Mostly clean. The food was whatever. The most pleasant experience was in the casino the dealer guy I forget his name was hilarious.

16 Best Beaches in The Bahamas

By Sue Bryant

Last updated: April 17th, 2024

Blue Lagoon Island, one of the best beaches in the Bahamas

  • Find a Cruise

The best beaches in the Bahamas are glorious. Wherever you go, you’ll have your pick of beautiful stretches of soft white sand shaded by coconut palms and lapped by water in the most intense shade of aquamarine imaginable.

Add to this spectacular coral reefs, watersports galore, and enticing, toes-in-the-sand restaurants selling conch fritters and cooling cocktails, and you have the perfect formula for the dream beach day.

Whether you’re in search of an upscale beach packed with facilities or a complete getaway with nothing but a hammock slung between coconut palms, discovering the best beaches in The Bahamas is a delight.

Pearl Island, Nassau

Pearl Island, one of the best beaches in the Bahamas

Pearl Island lies eight miles east of Nassau , guarded by a white lighthouse and encircled by coral reefs that teem with life. A visit here is a complete escape, with powder-soft sand and enticing turquoise shallows leading to the reefs. There are water toys, too, including trampolines and floating mats, as well as paddle boards.

Your day here includes a buffet lunch, which is a great chance to try Bahamian specialties, including fried fish, plantains, and peas ‘n’ rice.

Atlantis Resort, Nassau

Atlantis, one of the best beaches in the Bahamas

Glossy Atlantis Resort, a luxurious playground on Nassau’s Paradise Island, is a beach escape with a whole lot more to offer. You’ll find six beaches spanning an incredible five miles with a stretch for every taste.

One of the best things to do in the Bahamas is to bask on the dazzling white sand of Atlantis Beach or Royal Beach, stirring only to reach for your Bahama Mama cocktail, or to take a refreshing dip.

Water park of Atlantis Resort, Nassau

Head for the tranquil seven-acre Paradise Lagoon, where there are two beaches. This is the perfect spot for kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding on the mirror-calm water.

Atlantis also has a spectacular water park , Aquaventure, with plunging slides, vertical drops, and lazy river rides.

Admire aquatic life in the impressive marine habitats via snorkeling among dazzling reef fish or wandering through the perspex tunnel under Predator Lagoon. Here, sharks and fearsome-looking grouper circle above and around you.

Harbor Beach, CocoCay

Harbor Beach, CocoCay, one of the best beaches in the Bahamas

CocoCay lies in the Berry Island group, located between Nassau and Freeport. Like many of the Bahamas islands, it’s characterized by white sand, palm trees, and turquoise shallows that slope toward coral beds.

Harbor Beach is perfect for families with younger children. Away from the main shoreline, it fringes a tranquil lagoon that’s protected from any wind or waves. Kids and less confident swimmers can paddle in the warm shallows here.

Young travelers will also love Splashaway Bay, to one side of Harbor Beach, a water park with slides, drench buckets, and fountains to play in.

You can lie back on your beach chair and watch zipliners coming in to land, as the island’s zipline finishes at one end of the beach. Harbor Beach is also right next to Skipper’s Grill, a bustling restaurant serving up delicious BBQ dishes, salads, and tacos.

Cable Beach, Nassau

Soft waves of Cable Beach

Glamorous Cable Beach, one of the best beaches in Nassau , stretches for two and a half miles along the north coast of New Providence Island. Its name refers to the first underwater telegraph cable that came ashore here in 1892.

Cable Beach is one of the original tourism development spots in the Bahamas and as early as the 1940s was considered a jetset destination.

There are various water sports concessions, whether you’re interested in stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, or whizzing through the water while being towed by an underwater scooter. You’ll also find abundant restaurants, bars, and even a golf course and a couple of casinos along the beach.

South Beach, CocoCay

Aerial view of South Beach, CocoCay

The long, sandy sweep of South Beach on CocoCay has a party atmosphere thanks to a host of activities and the presence of a floating bar just offshore. Sunbathe under the palm trees, fuel up on burgers and salads at Snack Shack, and shoot the breeze with friends at Coconut Willie’s bar.

There are floating mats to rent and beach volleyball courts on which to work off energy. Elevate your experience with a private beachfront cabana with uninterrupted views of the ocean.

Cove Beach, CocoCay

If you want to get away from it all on CocoCay, petite Cove Beach is about as far as you can stroll from the dock. It lies on the south shore of the island and is connected to busier South Beach by a short nature trail.

There are no bars or restaurants at Cove Beach, which is part of its peaceful charm, but the bar and Snack Shack at South Beach are just a couple of minutes’ walk along the sand. You’ll find beach chairs and umbrellas on Cove Beach, too.

Junkanoo Beach, Nassau

Clear waters of Junkanoo Beach, Nassau

Junkanoo Beach, close to downtown Nassau and opposite Arawak Cay, has a day-long party ambiance, all the more so during Spring Break, when the bars and beach shacks are buzzing.

Visiting here is one of the best things to do in Nassau if you like island rhythms and ice-cold cocktails to accompany your day on the sand.

Locals celebrate here during the Junkanoo festival, a time of parades, dancing, bonfires, and beach parties between Christmas and New Year’s. You’ll also see gatherings on weekends when families come to Junkanoo Beach for cookouts.

The water is clear, and there are beach chairs to rent, as well as a few activities, including pony rides. Stop by one of the beach shacks for lunch; the Salty Crab does a fine line in cracked conch and fried snapper.

Wood carvings inside Straw Market, Nassau

Straw Market, Nassau

You’re within easy reach of Nassau’s Straw Market, too, so it’s easy to combine beach time with some shopping for locally made souvenirs.

Radio Beach, Bimini

Soft sands of Radio Beach, Bimini

Many of the beaches on Bimini are accessible by paying a fee, but there are plenty of free areas, too. One such is Radio Beach in Alice Town, the main town on the north island.

Radio Beach is a long stretch of flat rock and white sand giving way to neon-blue shallows. There’s good snorkeling close to the beach, although in some spots, you’ll need to clamber down the rocks.

One of the joys of Radio Beach is that it’s close to the center of the sleepy little town, with easy access to beach shacks and rustic restaurants. This is the perfect opportunity to try a conch fritter, an island specialty, perfect with an ice-cold beer.

Hideaway Beach, CocoCay

Adults-only Hideaway Beach is reminiscent of a cool Ibiza beach club. It’s located in the northwest corner of CocoCay, where an infinity pool leads to a crescent of white sand that in turn slopes into the turquoise ocean.

This is one of the best Bahamas beaches if you like all-day DJ chillout tunes, a giant swing for those Instagram shots, and a swim-up bar. There’s no shortage of refreshments here; pizza lovers should head to Slice of Paradise, while Snack Shack is the place to go for sandwiches, burgers, and salads.

You could also rent a private cabana at The Hideout, part of Hideaway Beach. Ten of these luxurious retreats curve around a long infinity pool, with beach chairs in the water so you can sunbathe, people-watch, and cool off at the same time.

Blue Lagoon Island, Nassau

Blue Lagoon Island, one of the best beaches in the Bahamas

Blue Lagoon is just three miles from Nassau, but feels like another world. White sand beaches fringe this tiny speck, which is also known as Salt Cay. Coconut palms and bottle-green scrub, home to nesting birds, line the shore.

Many people visit for the dolphin encounters, but there’s plenty more to do. Rent a glass-bottomed kayak and paddle out over the coral gardens.

Or try an underwater scooter, a battery-powered device that pulls you through the water with thrilling speed. Kids will love the Aqua Park, which has trampolines and inflatable slides.

Honeymoon Harbor Beach, Bimini

Stingray spotted in Honeymoon Harbor Beach in Bimini, Bahamas

Some 10 miles south of Bimini, the tiny speck of Gun Cay is guarded at the southern end by a red-and-white lighthouse. At the northern tip, there’s a beautiful anchorage called Honeymoon Harbor Beach, which is only accessible by boat.

This is the ultimate desert island getaway; just a strip of white sand, a tiny jetty, and some dense greenery away from the beach. There’s little shade, so come prepared.

The big attraction of Honeymoon Harbor is the stingrays that mill around here in the shallows. The rays know that they’ll be fed tidbits by the occupants of the day boats that anchor here, so they show up as soon as a boat appears. They’re docile and used to humans, so you can stand in the warm water and even touch them gently.

Chill Island Beach, CocoCay

Calm waters of Chill Island Beach, CocoCay

A long sweep of immaculate, cream-colored sand curving around three small, half-moon bays, Chill Island is one of the biggest beaches on CocoCay. You’ll find an abundance of sunbeds here, as well as daybeds and cabanas to rent, and hammocks slung between the palm trees. There are beach wheelchairs available, too.

If you can stir yourself from your sunbathing spot, this is also one of the best places to snorkel in the Bahamas , with equipment to rent if you don’t have your own. Head out to one of the floating snorkel platforms where you can rest in between forays over the coral reefs.

You won’t have to stray far for lunch; the Chill Grill on the beach serves BBQ dishes, salads, and tacos, as well as other comfort food. You can shop for Bahamian souvenirs, too, in the rustic straw market.

Jaws Beach, Nassau

Iconic Jaws Beach in Nassau

You’re unlikely to find any sharks and certainly no great whites at this peaceful beach on the west coast of New Providence. But Jaws Beach has this slightly menacing name because some of the scenes from the fourth movie in the famous franchise were shot here.

Jaws Beach is part of Clifton Heritage Park, which is a protected area, so you won’t find a lot of development here. Come for a quiet time, easy access to the offshore reef, and hikes through the park itself. You’ll find habitats ranging from wetlands to dunes and scrubby woodland, with seabirds and wading birds for company.

Love Beach, Nassau

Pristine Love Beach is regarded as one of the best beaches in the Bahamas for snorkeling, thanks to the presence of 40 acres of thriving coral reef just offshore.

It’s a 25-minute drive from downtown by taxi or jitney (the local buses), but you’ll be rewarded with a dreamy sense of a true tropical island paradise, as there’s little development here beyond a few beach bars. You can rent a beach chair or simply relax in the shade of a tree.

Parrotfish spotted in the Bahamas

The snorkeling here is spectacular. You could see shimmering parrotfish, snapper, bright butterflyfish, blue-and-yellow damselfish, and graceful angelfish. Love Beach has serene tide pools, too, which kids will love poking around in.

Cabbage Beach, Nassau

White sands of Cabbage Beach, Nassau

Despite its unusual name, Cabbage Beach on Nassau’s Paradise Island is a delightful place to spend the day, thanks to its powdery white sand and translucent teal waters.

Unlike many Bahamas beaches owned by resorts, Cabbage Beach is a public facility, with umbrellas and beach chairs to rent from local operators. You’ll find plenty of watersports here, as well as beach vendors selling Bahamian drinks and snacks.

Cabbage Beach is right next to the opulent Atlantis Resort, so you can combine your beach time with a wander through the spectacular property, which has plenty of high-end shops to gaze at, as well as places to eat and drink.
