We were a group of four, and we were looking at something we could all do together. We decided to book a sunset sail on a Sunday evening. We were surprised with how big the boat was! We were expecting a catamaran that maybe held 50 to 60 people. The boat is huge! Boarding was super efficient and there were hula dancers to entertain the guests as they waited to board. The boat has multiple levels. Plus on each level they have it partitioned off so there are separate buffet stations and entertainers on each side of a wall. We were taken to a nice table right near the water. The staff was super friendly, and someone came by with Mai Tais about a minute after we were seated. (You get one complementary mai tai as you sail, and then it is a cash bar.) The dinner is buffet style featuring a prime rib carving station. I wasn't too impressed with the food honestly. The salad and the noodles were the best part I thought. They also had some fish in a coconut, curry sauce, chicken pieces, noodles, macaroni salad, and rice. The prime rib was just OK. They allow you to go up as many times as you want so after I decided what I liked and what I didn't like I went up and got a little bit more food. They also had some desserts that included a macadamia nut brownie, a coconut cake, and a green tea tiramisu. The brownies and the coconut cake were good. I did not care for the tiramisu. (And neither did anyone else in my party.) The best things about the ship were the amazing sunset views and the entertainment. There was a Hawaiian girl who served as an emcee/Dj. She got everybody singing along to Hawaiian classics and all the usual party songs like YMCA. The dancers were also amazing. There were male and female dancers and they must've changed costumes three or four times each. Plus they danced on each side of the room; so everybody had a great view. The dancers got volunteers up to learn to hula dance and they also had everybody sing happy birthday to the folks who were celebrating. The emcee made sure to try and get everyone involved; plus she played the ukulele and had a beautiful voice. The sunset views were spectacular. The crew rolled up the plastic sheeting windows so that we could get great photos. Even after the sun set we had some great views of the skyline of Waikiki. Getting off the ship was just as smooth as boarding. Overall; the Star of Honolulu is a great way to see a beautiful Honolulu sunset. It is very organized and a pleasant experience with a caring and knowledgeable crew.. It was a fun outing for people of any age. I would especially recommend this boat for people in a group celebrating a birthday or other special occasion.
I made reservations at my hotel for my parents. I wanted they have special event moments in Honolulu. My hotel team was recommended me this I decided to make reservations for them. Every Friday has fire work. So I choose Friday. I wanted make reservations 5course but it was fully booked so I choose 3course star. It included pictures. If you would like to seat window there's an extra cost. I took window seat. But I wouldn't recommend window seat anyway go to out side for watching view. Appetizer bread and butter and salad was great. Chicken was great but steak was over cooked. Crab was has fish smell. Ice cream was nothing special There's has show. It was amazing. You don't have to go other place for watching Hawaiian show. All including. Also Can see Honolulu city night view from ocean. It was great. Definitely recommend

The ship was large, and I think the most stable area was the bottom floor in the inside. The top was the rockiest. They gave an informative presentation in the beginning, and then we were set loose on deck. They do have drinks and food to buy. Nothing heavy. Just things like chips, bagels, cookies, and drinks. Nice crew, but they stopped validating. So beware! Get something at a different shop to validate your ticket!!!

The most spectacular view The show is very entertaining especially for first time visitors
Went here the first time for whale watching! No luck!!! BUT they have a guarantee to see whales or you can come back!! So I came back and so glad i did!! We saw many dolphins, turtles and baby whales! Wow! So amazing! My family enjoyed it very much!!! Parking is a bit pricey so be prepared to pay up to $30! Please make sure to take some motion sickness pills and hour before coming!!! It needs to be in your system to work!!! I saw so many miserable kids and adults! Please plan ahead!
Celebrated our 24th year Anniversary yesterday, 2-17-2024. Excellent service from Kekei and leader Rose. Everyone was accommodating and nice including the captains. It's our second time coming here. Singers were professional, jazz band was great! Hula dancers were also top notch. Steak and lobster dinner. I highly recommend this place. Side note: Hope they can bring back the unlimited crab legs pre-covid.
10/10 go on Friday night best show ever! I booked the Deluxe Three Star Sunset Dinner Cruise. There is a parking lot available. I suggest to get there early as it fills up quickly. You will have to pay to park when leaving. You might can find street parking. I didn't look for it due to the time I go there the boat was loading up. After you park you will be checked in and head aboard the ship. There are greeters there to great you and they will be singing as well. Once on board you tell the directors your package and they will tell you where to go. When we got to our floor a server escorted us to our seats. Then a waiter came and he was our waiter throughout the night. You just let him know when you were ready for the next meal and he brought it out. We only had to get our own appetizers. The bathroom was surprisingly super clean for a ship. We ate, drank, talked, took pictures, watched the sunset and a photographer will come take your photo as well. Then just before dessert performers came out and put on a show. Next after the show you will see the fireworks. When the fireworks are complete you will be back to dock. The food and drink were good. I didn't expect a whole lobster. So that was a bonus! Overall an amazing night! I will be returning. Definitely recommend if you're celebrating to go.

We went on a sunset cruise today, ending with a fireworks show! We watched from our boat in the ocean, and what a show!!! Just beautiful!! On the boat we had a delicious dinner, all you can eat!! With desserts and coffee! Our servers name was Danny, what an awesome server!! This young man was so attentive and courteous, not to mention his wonderful personality!! He checked on our table (partly of 9) quite often to see if we needed anything, he even gave us tips on where to go to watch the fireworks! It was my first time on this cruise, and first time in Honolulu, I'll always remember Danny's amazing customer service!! It was also amazing to see the Captain among the crowd. We also had the sweetest bartender named Taylor! This whole trip on the boat was amazing! I highly recommend it!! So much fun and entertainment on this cruise!! Hats off to you guys!!! I'll be back again!!!
I just did the Sunrise Cruise and it was absolutely amazing! Food was seasoned to perfection, entertainment great, drinks delicious and service was very hospitable. View of the sunset was perfect. I got my moneys worth and was very satisfied with the experience !
my husband and I went on this sunset dinner cruise but I was quite trepadicious to go because I'm on a mobility scooter. The staff was so considerate and helpful without going overboard that they put me immediately at ease. When dinner came it was quite good and the service was spot on. there was a fresh salad with rolls based in poi, a delicious Mai tai, crab, steak and chicken with ice cream for dessert. But it was the performance whitch made this activity shoot over the top... well choreographed and costumed and a perfect platform for the highly skilled artists. All in all 6 stars out of five!

Looking Back at a Night to Remember on the Star of Honolulu Three Star Dinner Cruise
The Star of Honolulu is the most popular dinner cruise that Oahu has, and also the largest boat for sunset cruises. Their most popular dinner package is their Three-Star dinner cruise, which is what I experienced. I couldn’t wait to find out what it was about this cruise that everyone is constantly talking about!
Getting There
I decided to go with a friend of mine, though this dinner cruise would be a great romantic date night.
We met at the pier: she drove there, while I used the provided transportation, which picked me up in Waikiki.
Their check-in location is at the Aloha Tower Marketplace which, depending on traffic, is only about a 15-20-minute drive and very easy to find. Star of Honolulu will validate onsite parking as well, so feel free to drive out if you want.
Their transportation is quite nice, though. My pick-up location was at the Sheraton in Waikiki at their Aloha Bus Depot. When I arrived, there was already a large group of people waiting.
The Star employee was very easy to find, though. He was wearing a vest with Star of Honolulu logo clearly visible on it. He handed me a sticker to wear which stated which package I had for the evening, which was the Three Star Dinner Cruise.
They escorted everyone onto the bus, which was a very nice Motor Coach with on board restrooms and TVs.
The Royal Star company, which works hand in hand with Paradise Cruises, provides all transportation.
These companies offer not only the Star of Honolulu dinner cruise, but a variety of other activities as well. They have a whale watch cruise, a dolphin watch and snorkel cruise, a circle island tour, and even tours to Pearl Harbor.
It wasn’t long after loading everyone on the bus and we were on our way! We made a couple more pick-ups at other nearby hotels before finally arriving at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.
How to Get to the Star of Honolulu
We arrived on site and were immediately able to see this big white boat with Star of Honolulu written on it in blue. You won’t have to worry about getting lost: you definitely can’t miss it!
We were greeted by other Star team members that directed us toward where everyone was boarding the boat.
At the ramp, we were greeted by hula dancers! Star of Honolulu has a dockside hula show every night to greet passengers.
But you don’t have to be going on the boat to watch, so if you’re at the Aloha Tower Marketplace around 4:30 p.m., check it out!
Boarding the Cruise Ship
The hula dancers directed us inside and showed us our seats. The package you book decides which deck you’ll be eating on as well as your seating, so there’s no need to worry about it when boarding. The Three Star Dinner package I booked put us on the second deck.
The tables were already set when we got there, most of them being small tables seating only two people each. It was very cold in the cabin so I would recommend bringing a light sweater if you get cold easily like I do!
My first impression was that the interior was a little outdated. It was still very nicely kept up, being clean, neat, and well-furnished, but it looks like they haven’t made any decor updates in a few years.
We sat along the window at a small table with just the two of us. There were other people sitting nearby, but not right beside us. There were also big round tables in the middle as well, for larger groups or families.
Our server greeted us with a champagne toast. Since the champagne is a part of the dinner, of course we couldn’t turn that down!
A short Bon Voyage hula dance started onboard to kick off the evening. Afterwards, there was live Hawaiian music playing for us to enjoy.
A Five-Course Dinner
This was a nice way to start off the relaxing vibe for the evening and we sipped on our champagne while trying to decide what to order next!
The Three Star Dinner package includes two drinks in addition to the Champagne toast. They have a wide variety to choose from including different cocktails, liquor, a few beers and one option for red or white wine.
The first course is a variety of cheeses, crackers and fresh tropical fruit that is on a display.
Unlike the other courses, you grab the appetizers yourself and bring them over to your table. The on-board waitstaff serves everything else.
The second course is the seasonal salad dish. Ours consisted of Hawaiian greens, purple endive, Waioli baby romaine, and grape tomatoes, with a lilikoi Tarragon vinaigrette.
The Steak & Lobster
Our seafood course followed the salad, as we were served a whole Nova Scotia Maine Lobster! It was served with fresh lemon, butter & citrus ponzu.
A waiter came around to offer us help cracking the shell, which I thought was good service. The lobster was so delicious, but that was only the beginning!
The third course might have been my favorite!
We were served a tenderloin steak with a sweet Madeira wine sauce, Idaho russet and Big Island Okinawan mashed potatoes and sautéed fresh seasonal vegetables.
The steak was so tender, and I loved the paired wine sauce.
The vegetables didn’t have quite enough seasoning for me but it didn’t matter because the steak was so great!
Throughout dinner they switch to live Jazz music that you get to enjoy which was a nice touch!
The last course we ate was dessert, which is usually my favorite part of meals. We had a piece of mango mousse cake with white chocolate garnish.
Sadly, I’m not a huge fan of mousse cake, but if you are then you’re in luck!
Enjoying the Sunset
We got up a couple of times in between courses to get a closer look at the sunset and to walk around the Star of Honolulu a bit.
The biggest perk of being on a boat is being able to walk around the deck, so I wouldn’t be shy about doing that at all!
We had a gorgeous sunset, so we didn’t want to miss out on getting that classic sunset picture!
Luckily, with our table right by the window, we could easily see the sunset from our seat, so that was nice to have as our backdrop during dinner.
To conclude the evening is their 60 years of Aloha show that the Star of Honolulu puts on!
This show mixes traditional and modern dances found throughout Polynesia.
The dancers invited the audience to come up and dance, too, which added a fun twist! They even called out for anyone celebrating their honeymoon or anniversary for them to have a dance which was so sweet to watch!
Overall, we had a great time and I would definitely recommend this cruise!
The food and service were great and we got to enjoy it while witnessing the most gorgeous sunset!
Star of Honolulu also offers a couple of different things for special occasions! You can choose to add a private window table if you’d like. A cake and bottle of champagne are also available if you really to make it even more special!
They also have the option to add a professional photo that they will take of you as well which is something nice to have to be able to look back on to remember the evening.
I would definitely recommend looking into these if you are celebrating something special or if you just want to make it a special dinner!

I’ve known about the Star of Honolulu dinner cruises for years, but it’s never worked out in our schedule to actually do one.
So, I was really pumped to have the opportunity to check out a Star of Honolulu cruise on my recent trip to Oahu.
It’s one of the most popular dinner cruises in Waikiki plus it features Hawaiian entertainment.
Keep scrolling to read my honest Star of Honolulu dinner cruise review so you can decide if you want to add it to your Oahu itinerary.
Where is the Star of Honolulu Located?
Thinking about the Star of Honolulu cruise ? Let’s talk about where it is. It’s at Pier 8 in the Aloha Tower Marketplace, and the address is 1 Aloha Tower Drive in Honolulu.
It’s a quick 15-minute drive from Waikiki, so it’s not too far from where lots of tourists stay. But, it’s not close enough to walk from Waikiki, so you’ll need to plan how to get there.
You can drive yourself or arrange a ride. If you drive, remember you’ll need to pay for parking. And here’s a tip: get there about 45 minutes early, especially for dinner cruises, which means checking in by 4:45 PM. That way, you’re all set and not rushing at the last minute.
Driving Yourself?
There are pay parking lots nearby . We parked at the Irwin parking lot which is the closest to the Star of Honolulu at Pier 8. But, it also shares the parking lot with a luau, so it fills up quickly.
First Impressions
When we first got to the Star of Honolulu cruise , it was pretty neat. We noticed it was mostly older folks and honeymooners on board. Since it was the off-season, there weren’t as many families around. Check current rates and availability .
Before we even got on the ship, there was this cool hula show right on the dock. It was a fun, quick performance that got everyone excited. At 4:45 p.m., they started inviting guests to board the ship.
The whole vibe was welcoming, and it was awesome to start the cruise experience with some traditional Hawaiian dancing. It definitely set the mood for a great evening ahead!
Entertainment Value
On the Star of Honolulu Cruise, the entertainment really adds to the experience, but it can vary depending on where you’re seated.
We were on the Three Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise , and there was this awesome jazz singer during dinner. She sang lots of different songs and even took requests from us. It was cool hearing jazzy versions of some classic hits!
After the cruise ended, we got to watch the “65 Years of Aloha” show. It lasted about 15 minutes and was like a mini luau. There was hula dancing, Tahitian dancing, and even Maori dancing from New Zealand.
The dancers were not just on stage; they were all around us, so no matter where you sat, you had a great view.
The best part? The show wrapped up with a dance party. They played “YMCA,” and almost everyone got up to dance. It was so much fun seeing everyone just let loose and enjoy themselves.
If you’re into music, dancing, and a good time, this cruise has got you covered!
Food & Drink Experience
On the Star of Honolulu Cruise, you’ve got a bunch of dining options, each with its own cool features. Let’s break it down:
Pacific Star Sunset Buffet & Show Cruise
This one’s great for families. It’s more affordable and includes a welcome Mai Tai and a tasty Pacific Rim dinner buffet. Think roast beef carving station and a fun Polynesian show.
Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise
Here, you get a Signature Mai Tai and a 3-course meal with crab, steak, and BBQ chicken, plus the “65 Years of Aloha” show. Sounds pretty delicious!
Three Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise
We tried this one and loved it! You get a 5-course dinner with lobster and steak, super premium drinks, and live entertainment, including jazz during dinner. Fancy and fun!
Nova Five Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise
This is the top-tier option. You dine on the top deck with amazing views, enjoy a “champagne” toast, and get a 5-course lobster and beef dinner. Plus, there’s jazz music.
They’re cool about special diets too. If you’re vegan or have other dietary needs, just let them know 24 hours in advance, and they’ll sort you out.
And the drinks? There are tropical cocktails like Blue Hawaii, Lava Flow, and their Signature Mai Tai, plus other cocktails, wine, beer, and soft drinks.
So, whatever your taste or budget, there’s something for everyone. And the quality of the food and drinks? Top-notch! It’s a great mix of delicious eats and cool Hawaiian vibes.
Pricing & Value
Thinking about the Star of Honolulu Cruise and wondering about the cost? They’ve got different packages with something for every budget.
Pacific Star Sunset Buffet & Show Cruise : Adults pay $117, and kids (ages 3-11) are $70. This package includes a welcome Mai Tai, a yummy Pacific Rim dinner buffet with roast beef, and a cool Polynesian show.
Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise : For adults, it’s $141, and kids are $85. You get a Signature Mai Tai and a 3-course dinner with crab, steak, and BBQ chicken, plus the “65 Years of Aloha” show.
Three Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise : This one’s $184 for adults and $110 for kids. It’s fancier, with a 5-course lobster and steak dinner, premium drinks, and Hawaiian entertainment.
Nova Five Star Sunset Dinner & Show Cruise : The top option is $225 for adults and $135 for kids. You’ll dine on the top deck, start with a champagne toast, and enjoy a 5-course lobster and beef dinner with live Jazz.
The prices are pretty much in line with what you’d spend on other Oahu luaus. Each package offers something special, like free drinks and amazing views. So, it’s all about what kind of experience you’re looking for!
Things to Know Before Booking
Before you book the Star of Honolulu Dinner Cruise , here’s what you need to know. If you’re staying in Waikiki, you can get a ride to the cruise and back for a small fee. It’s super handy!
This cruise is the only one in Hawaii that’s fully set up for people with disabilities. It’s got ramps and elevators, so everyone can join in the fun.
For dinner cruises, dress nicely but comfortably. Think resort style, but leave the shorts and flip-flops at home.
And, they’ve got bathrooms on the ship, even one with a changing table for little ones. Kids under two who sit on a parent’s lap are free.
If your plans change, you can cancel or change your booking for free up to 24 hours before the cruise. But if you cancel within 24 hours or don’t show up, you’ll have to pay the full price.
Celebrating something special? They’ve got cakes, wine, and more to make your cruise extra special.
They’ve got something fun for every holiday, like New Year’s Eve or the 4th of July. Who doesn’t enjoy a themed cruise?
After the ship leaves, you can smoke outside on the fourth deck. And don’t forget to bring your ID if you want a drink – you need to be 21 or older.
The ship has four decks and a 60-foot-high observation deck for amazing views. And if you get seasick, they offer free herbal ginger capsules to help settle your stomach.
So, whether it’s a special day or just a fun outing, the Star of Honolulu has lots to offer!

I’d totally recommend it for honeymooners, couples, or anyone celebrating something special like a birthday or anniversary. Overall Score: 8/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
