Similar to its sister ships,  Seven Seas Navigator  and  Seven Seas Voyager , the 696-passenger Seven Seas Mariner makes service a top priority with 459 crew members on board.

Refurbished in 2018 (and debuted in 2001), the Mariner features neutral decor and finishings throughout, a remodeled library in a new location and a revamped pool deck with an open layout and new tile and teak surfaces. The Serene Spa & Wellness center received a new design with light wood accents and pebble-stone tiles, while the fitness and aerobics center offers modern equipment. Onboard activities include theatrical productions, casino games and sipping cocktails in one of five lounge areas.

Across the ship, there are seven eateries in total. All are stylishly designed, including the Prime 7 steakhouse and the flagship Compass Rose restaurant. Chartreuse, a guest favorite, highlights modern French cuisine. During the day, guests can enjoy the expanded lunch offerings at the outdoor Pool Grill or snack at the informal Coffee Connection. As with all Regent Seven Seas ships, specialty dining and shore excursions are included in the cruise fare.

Best of all, the all-suite accommodations offer beds with plush leather headboards, cozy sitting areas and artwork. All cabins are outfitted with welcome bottles of Champagne, private balconies, walk-in closets and marble bathrooms.

Seven Seas Mariner sails through much of the world, including ports in the Caribbean, Canada, Africa, Asia, Australia and more.

Adding Glamour Back to Travel: Regent Seven Seas Mariner Review

Written by catherine parker, cruises | luxury travel | travel.

Imagine for a moment arriving at the port with your steamer trunk, dressed in white linen, a floppy sunhat, and designer shades. Seamlessly a white-gloved porter arrives and assists with your luggage. And off you go on a grand adventure.

Sophistication and luxury faded away in all modes of transportation a generation ago—except luxury cruises. Indulge your senses with sophisticated cabins and chef-created menus. Slow down the journey and take in the scenery to add the glamour back to travel. Tour unforgettable ports-of-call during the day then retreat to a five-star cabin on a Regent Seven Seas Cruise . Sailing the seas in a newly appointed luxury suite on the RSSC Mariner is my top wow moment of 2018. From the time you book until the time you disembark, passengers are swaddled in luxury.

Before Your Cruise

The feel of luxury arrives with the signature Regent departure packet. Find matte gray luggage tags along with a travel portfolio—a smart way to keep important documents together.

Use the Regent checked luggage tags and checked bags will arrive at your suite later on your arrival day. And the Regent’s representative guides passengers through baggage claim and to the motor coaches.

Once at the port, the check-in process is efficient compared with other cruise lines. And forget those tacky plastic pouches other cruise lines issue. Regent Seven Seas uses gray bi-fold suite key holders. Of course, the outstanding crew greets all with smiles and champagne.

What’s New on the RSSC Mariner

After three weeks in dry dock during 2018, find lots of upgrades on the Regent Seven Seas Mariner . Starting with the common areas, like a redesign of the Coffee Connection, Library and Compass Rose, and the main dining room. Each received a luxurious overhaul with elegant finishes, like marble accents, rich woods, and new furniture appointments.

Find a new restaurant, Chartreuse , featuring shades of pale celery and burnished gold. Chartreuse offers a night of French fine dining with all the flourishes, like Versace tableware.

Suites on the Mariner

The Mariner’s suites offer an oasis of refinement. Even the smallest cabins are spacious enough that guests can lounge all day without feeling confined.

All cabins on the Regent Seven Seas Mariner are suites with balconies. Since the suites are located across five decks, guests rarely see each other in the passageways.

Deluxe Veranda Suite and the Concierge Suite

The Deluxe Veranda Suite and the Concierge Suite offer the same size accommodations at 252 square feet, along with the same amenities.

  • King bed with luxurious white cotton bedding (can be broken down into two twins)
  • Private balcony with seating
  • Marble bathroom with shower or tub
  • L’Occitane Mer & Mistral toiletries
  • Walk-in closet with safe and wooden hangers
  • Minibar with glassware and a complimentary refill

  • Bathrobes and slippers
  • Dressing table with hairdryer
  • A separate seating area with settee

With the Deluxe Veranda Suite , only one Wi-Fi log-in is included. The Concierge Suite offers four unlimited log-ins for Wi-Fi.

Concierge Suite passengers also receive a free pre-cruise hotel package. Including transfers to-and-from the airport, along with breakfast the following morning.

For two of my three Mariner cruises, I stayed in a Deluxe Veranda Suite.

Penthouse Suite

Penthouse suites offer more space with 376 square feet. Notably, find a sectional in the separate seating area and a larger balcony with upgraded outdoor seating. All of the standard amenities are included in the Penthouse Suites along with these additional luxurious appointments:

  • Personal Butler
  • Complimentary pressing on the first night
  • Priority online excursion booking
  • Selection of pillows
  • Daily canapés
  • Personalized stationery
  • BOSE mini Bluetooth speaker
  • Illy espresso maker
  • Cashmere blankets
  • L’Occitane men’s shaving kit
  • Guerlain toiletries
  • Complimentary signature tote bag
  • Cruising essentials kit with hand sanitizer, lip balm, stain remover, sewing kit, and hand wipes

I stayed in a Penthouse Suite for one of my Alaskan cruises and I didn’t want to leave. With a color palette of champagne and sterling, the suite oozed luxury.

My butler, Kumar, was attentive and even anticipated my needs. He, along with many of the Regent crew members, are exceptionably well-traveled.

Horizon View Suite

The Horizon View Suite is 359 square feet and offers a dining table in the seating area. The balcony offers more space and a pair of chaises. Get all the amenities of the Penthouse Suite above plus a few added luxuries, including:

  • Early access to your suite on embarkation day (1 p.m.)
  • Fruit arrangement
  • Floral arrangement
  • In-suite blue ray player
  • Weather clock

Seven Seas Suite

The Seven Seas Suite offers 505 or 561 square feet with a separate living and dining space. Get all the amenities featured in the smaller suites along with additional amenities, including:

  • Bottega Veneta Soap
  • Selection of Fig and Tea Leaves Bath Salts

Mariner Suite

The Mariner Suites offers 650 square feet of luxury with a master suite in addition to a separate half bath. This suite offers all the amenities of the smaller suites with some added luxurious appointments, including:

  • Welcome bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne
  • Welcome letter from President and General Manager
  • One in-suite caviar service
  • Delivery of three daily newspapers
  • World Atlas and Weather clock

Grand Suite

The Grand Suites are located on Deck 11 and feature 903 square feet. With a signature step-up in amenities, the Grand Suite offers a cruising experience like no other. All of the items from the smaller suites are included, plus more luxurious offerings, such as:

  • Guerlain Fragrance
  • Spongelle Buffer
  • VIP status and dinner with a Senior Officer
  • Priority Boarding at noon on embarkation day
  • Complimentary cocktail party for eight
  • Personalized in-suite full-liquor bar set-up
  • Guaranteed reservation for each night in a specialty restaurant
  • Complimentary training session at the fitness center
  • Room service selections from specialty restaurants during dinner service
  • Tea Forte set-up
  • Chocolate Leonidas
  • Complimentary shore excursion bag

Master Suite

The Master Suites are located on Deck 9 and feature 1202 square feet of indoor space. With two balconies and the addition of another bedroom, this is an ideal suite for a larger group, as it accommodates five passengers.

regent cruises mariner

Find luxurious appointments and furnishings throughout the suite. Feel comfortable dining in-suite or enjoying a meal al fresco with a forward-facing main balcony outfitted with a dining table.

One of the bedrooms features a separate balcony with chairs. And both marble bathrooms feature a tub and a separate shower. The suite amenities are the same as the Grand Suite, featuring all the signature Regent Seven Seas offerings.

Entertainment on the Mariner

Passages , the onboard daily newsletter, provides details for activities. Find favorites, like trivia, yoga classes, bridge, and mah-jongg. Or take in a group, like the solo and social travelers group.

Enrichment Series:  Most cruises offer in-depth lectures. For my Alaskan cruises, I learned about glaciers, the Tlingit people and the history of Victoria from a local expert.

Spa:  The Mariner features a full spa offering Canyon Ranch signature treatments, including massage and reflexology.

Shopping:  The Mariner offers a small boutique showcasing classic resort and evening wear along with accessories. Find regional souvenirs to make shopping easier. A jewelry boutique is also available.

Casino:  The Mariner features a small but staffed casino onboard. Find slot machines as well as live games like three-card poker, Blackjack, American Roulette, and craps, using cashless wagering and charging gaming to your suite.

Connoisseur Club : For passengers who enjoy cigars, the Connoisseur Club offers leather-tufted sofas and armchairs. Recently updated, find a club-like atmosphere along with a selection of vintage cognacs and port.

Constellation Theater:  In a two-tiered venue, it’s the destination for after dinner entertainment. The Mariner showcases full production musicals along with a line-up of entertainers like magicians and concert pianists. The Constellation Theater also hosts cruise-specific lectures along with movies.

Horizon Lounge:  Located at the stern of the ship, the Horizon Lounge offers a quiet place for reading or needlework. The Horizon Lounge hosts cooking demonstrations and a popular afternoon tea as well.

During the afternoon and evening, the resident musician plays so enjoy a spin on the dance floor. The furnished deck off the Horizon Lounge is perfect for spotting marine life in the ship’s wake.

Mariner Lounge:  Located between evening dining venues, the Mariner Lounge offers a destination for evening cocktails. With nightly entertainment, many passengers enjoy retelling adventures of the day. The solo cruisers group usually meets in the Mariner Lounger and dine together.

Observation Lounge:  During the day the Observation Lounge offers a quiet escape with sweeping views of the ocean located on the 12 th deck.

Stars Nightclub:  For the night owls and dancers, head to the Stars Nightclub. Find dance music and cocktails until the wee hours, especially on holidays. Though during the daylight hours, it’s another quiet spot for reading.

Cruising with Kids

Regent Seven Seas isn’t necessarily a family cruise line. Though you will find families onboard as a part of a multigenerational trip, especially the summertime Alaskan and Mediterranean cruises.

For select cruises, Regent features kids programming. This is not an all-day program for supervised entertainment and activities. It’s an informal group of kids that hang out for a few hours once a day on port days and two sessions during sea days.

During our Alaskan cruise with my three kids, the youngest two enjoyed the kids programming daily. With informal gaming competitions: board, hand-held, and onboard sports, my boys checked themselves into the programming every day.

Some evenings, the kids would gather for a movie night. And during our cruise, the kids met in the Compass Rose and ate together. Another popular kids’ event was decorate-your-own cupcakes.

Dining on the Mariner

From breakfast through dinner, every meal offered on the Mariner was an event. The champagne and caviar brunches at La Veranda are weekend indulgences. And I delighted perusing the menu of French classics at Chartreuse, especially the desserts.

The Compass Rose offers a selection of standard breakfast options with table service. Though due to early morning excursions, I only dined at the Compass Rose once. The menu is similar to the La Veranda so best for leisurely sea days.

La Veranda offers a full breakfast buffet with indoor and outdoor seating. Grab a plate and the waitstaff brings out fresh coffee or tea.

I found made-to-order eggs and daily specials, like eggs benedict, along with a full selection of breakfast meats. The freshly baked breads, fresh fruit, yogurt, and cereal had diners from across the world satisfied.

The Coffee Connection is a quick stop for busy mornings. Find breakfast breads, cereals, yogurt, and fresh fruit. The coffee bar brews up popular coffee drinks, hot and cold.

Next to the Coffee Connection, find another brew-your-own coffee machine along with cookies.

The Pool Grill sets out a continental breakfast as well. Though the cooler morning temperatures on some cruises make it a quiet spot.

Most port days, passengers dine in port. Another popular choice is to eat a heavy breakfast then skip lunch and attend afternoon tea once back onboard.

The Pool Grill is a favorite with a grill serving hamburgers and hot sandwiches. A themed lunch buffet is also served, like BBQ or regional favorites.

Find a salad bar along with a daily soup selection. And my kids’ favorite, indulge at the ice cream and gelato bar along with daily desserts.

La Veranda features a daily buffet along with a pizza oven. The menu changes daily and the offerings are displayed outside both entrances.

Afternoon Tea

Another personal favorite, I religiously attended afternoon tea in the Horizon Lounge. With some of the best scones I’ve tasted, it’s a delight for the Anglophile.

luxury cruise on Regent Seven Seas - A favorite with Anglophiles, the afternoon tea offers traditional scones paired with clotted cream and assorted jams along with a full assortment of tea sandwiches and desserts. Photo by Catherine Parker

Regent Seven Seas offers themed afternoon teas, so check out Passages , the daily newspaper. The chocolate afternoon tea features an elegantly presented buffet of chocolate desserts, including a chocolate fountain.

Dinner on a Regent Seven Seas Ship

Dinner is an event on a Regent Seven Seas ship. Diners enjoy a chef-created menu with multiple courses, including palette-cleansing sorbet along with a silver plated dessert caddy with petit-fours at most meals.

Compass Rose

In the Mariner’s main dining room, find an updated space to enjoy most evening meals. With a palette of ivory, silver and sapphire blue, the only element from the original dining room is the exquisite Versace charger plates.

With a rotating menu of continental ocean liner classics, find lobster every night along with Dover sole and filet. The Chef’s Selection pairs the best of the daily offerings and I highly recommend.

Compass Rose also features a Canyon Ranch healthy option for dinner with three carefully chosen courses, including a dessert.

The Mariner is a dessert lovers paradise. Find charlottes, soufflés, and baked Alaskas. Photo by Catherine Parker

La Veranda transforms from a breakfast and lunch buffet to offer Italian classics after 6:30 p.m. Start with a selection of anti-pasta served tableside, like meatballs or petite mozzarella balls. Find more at the Italian appetizer buffet and salad bar.

Sette Mari offers a daily menu of pasta, seafood, chicken, pork and beef selections. I particularly enjoyed the scallopini di vitello al limone.

A guest’s favorite, the Prime 7 Steakhouse got a new look blending marble and rich woods for a classic steakhouse feel. The menu is a classic as well, the lobster is always a thrill and the filet is satisfying. And indulge in the 14-layer chocolate cake.

New to the Mariner , the French Cuisine destination, Chartreuse offers an intimate dining room serving all the best of French classics. The service is friendly and refined. And each lady gets a tiny box of meringue cookies at the end of the meal.

During my dinner, I delighted at my floating islands, a classic French meringue floating in a pool of crème anglaise and garnished with decorative sugar work.

All restaurants offer the same children’s menu for dinner. During our cruise, the options included pasta with marinara sauce, fish and sautéed chicken breast, all paired with steamed vegetables or a side salad. Though burgers and buttered pasta can be ordered.

Room Service

Room service is available in all suites 24-hours a day. During my cruises, I enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Though the menu stays the same, all meals are presented with silver-plated serving pieces and white linens.

What to Wear on a Regent Seven Seas Cruise

One of the biggest questions people ask is, “How do I dress for a Regent Seven Seas cruise?” Here are some suggestions to help you pack for your cruise.

During the Day

Depending on the itinerary, pack for your excursions. For Alaskan cruises, the day attire is rugged. Hiking pants, fleece, and boots are all acceptable for breakfast service. Sea days are casual resort attire, depending on the weather.

The Mariner features two complimentary laundry rooms outfitted with self-soaping machines. Find an iron and board in the launderette as well. No need to overpack.

After 6 p.m.

For cruises under 16 nights, the evening dress code is elegant casual. For all cruises of 16 nights and more, the itinerary includes two formal optional nights.

For Ladies —Smart dresses paired with a dressy sweater and low heels are perfect. I also saw lots of black slacks with dressy tunics or blouses.

For Gentlemen —Dress shirts and slacks are the standards. Some men wore ties or a sports coat. Suits are not the norm.

For Children —I dressed my two sons in khaki pants, blue dress shirts, and bow ties. For my daughter, a dress and flats paired with a sweater worked well. The maître d’ always commented on how smart my kids looked for dinner.

Anyone on Mariner recently?

Cool Cruiser

Reviews I’ve found from end of 2022 were disappointing. I am considering a trip on Mariner but those reviews were mostly not good.  Covid affected sailings maybe? I’ve sailed on Celebrity and Crystal mostly, but want to try Regent and like the itineraries. Please post if you’ve had a recent experience on Mariner. Thanks.

We were on Mariner 5/2022 for Alaskan cruise sfo to Vancouver.  We had a great return to cruising cruise.  We aren’t very high maintenance though.  We are going on Mariner again in October.

Thanks

Thank you for your response.  We’ve never had a cruise we didn’t enjoy, so I expect we will be satisfied with the Mariner.

Last on Mariner October '22.  LA-Mexico-LA.  Many previous Mariner cruises.  Also a Crystal (pre-COVID) alumnus.

Did not do a detailed review.  Did make anecdotal comments on other Threads in response to cruisers whose experiences varied.  Which we have come to expect.  Some do as many shore excursions as possible; others use the ship as a destination and do fewer shore visits--for various reasons.  Thus, expectations and comments are based on different histories--even while on the same segment.

Based on our long history with Regent and other 5+ lines, YMMV on any particular ship, on any particular itinerary.  As to Mariner last October:  Nothing of consequence, one way of the other.  Consistency in what we have come to expect from Regent on any of its ships.  Saw many of the same Staff we sailed with on pre-Pandemic segments.

So--back aboard Navigator in late May.

Despite delays getting to embarkation, issues with local customs, and some rough weather - we enjoyed our Nov/Dec '22 cruise on the Mariner.  Experienced some very professional and personable staff throughout - especially in Compass Rose.

Great Review

2012_Alaska_bound

There are 155 people on the World Cruise on Mariner right now. They have been onboard since January and have 5 more weeks to go.

Maybe some will comment. @gb58 ?

Trunkabella

We were also on an LA/Mexico itinerary late October 2022.  While we weren’t thrilled with the excursions, we chalked that up to post-COVID start up.  Everything on the ship was fine.  Great food, great service, no complaints.

LoveBora

Our most recent Mariner cruise was in October, our first cruise since Covid. We really enjoyed ourselves. The food and service was top notch. Loved being on the ship again.

We are currently on the world cruise (there are 500 of us). Frankly, the Mariner is getting a little threadbare and could use a refresh. Also, there have been some issues with things not working. Food and service are overall very good, however there have been a number if new inexperienced crew since Singapore/Dubai with the experienced crew leaving for vacation.

Personally, the Mariner is our least favorite ship based on the small regular cabins and small bathrooms/closets in even the PH suites. We will choose the other ships from now on, preferably the newer ones.

I appreciate all the comments. BBWC: what things aren’t working?  I did read that Mariner is going into dry dock in November so that may help remedy problems.

Things like toilets not flushing - has happened several times. One time there was no hot water and people had to take cold showers. The ship also seems to gave problems transitioning from hot to cooler weather. It seems the air conditioning system suddenly goes into overdrive and makes the ship really cold. One time most people were sitting in Compass Rose with warm jackets on.

I’m booked on her first half of November and there are cruises right after that…so when in November?

I’ve searched and searched to find where I read that, all to no avail. What I did find was that the ship doesn’t have a wide gap in schedule until 2025.

So sorry I scared you half to death. November should be fine.

welshfamily

We are booked on the Mariner in August, our first Regent cruise. Whilst we picked this ship for the ports we are hoping for decent accommodation. By this I mean clean room , plenty of storage, comfortable beds and a cool drinks in the fridge. Anything else is a bonus.

We have been in Owners suites on Princess … beautiful spacious rooms , appalling service, Poor food, overcrowded public rooms. Celebrity suites …  very class orientated.

which was not for us.  We  do,  however, like smaller ships and have had some wonderful cruises on Oceania and Azamara on their R class ships. Let be honest the ordinary staterooms on those ships are tiny. Although we usually have Penthouse suites we once took  a veranda on Oceania as it was all that was available. The stateroom was pretty dire but we had a great cruise. We learnt, for us, cruising isn’t just about the stateroom.

As with the OP we hesitated after reading the reviews but decided to give Regent a go.  As with most cruises these days we have had some hiccups, booking Concierge for the pre night hotel and transfers only to find out none were available being the most annoying simply because the credit given was inadequate. We are looking forward to our cruise and will post an honest review when we return.

PhD-iva

I was on Mariner for the 3 November 2022 16-day cruise from Los Angeles to Lima Peru. This was my first cruise on Regent, and it was fabulous in every way. I was traveling solo as I have done since Covid bc my husband will no longer travel. I was in a very low state room category, and I had a lovely walk-in closet, wonderful bathroom, and lovely state room with an excellent balcony.

I had such a smashingly marvelous time. I am generally an Oceania  cruiser; Oceania is my favorite line. But I have to say that Regent Mariner was more fabulous than Oceania’s Riviera, Marina and Sirena.  I wrote a travel diary that is more focused on what I did, and who I met than a “review.” Let me see if any portions might be helpful here. I will post later if it could be of interest.

A few thoughts come to mind as to my experience

- Regent did a much better job of entertaining the solos. We were a group of 15 ++ and we had cocktails together every night, breakfasts on many mornings…. I made some great friends and really enjoyed the company.

- Boogie & Kashia played in the Stars lounge after the evening entertainment ended. We all danced until we dropped! Such high energy! I LOVE THEM! She is WOW!

- Regent had many guest lecturers on board. The focus was “Hollywood” producers, okay actually PBS, but same idea…… I attended the Cal State Univ Emeritus professor of history. His Lectures were interesting, informative, well presented. Plus, he joined our rollcall and introduced me to his long-time friend who was a professional Peruvian tour guide. I traveled with Ernesto Riedner for 3 days post cruise in Southern Peru while all the Machu Pichu post land tours were canceled when the airport closed for several days.

Back in November I certainly did NOT think Mariner was “tired” - YMMV.

Ok, I remember my 1 criticism of my cruise on Regent, which I was prepared for as I had read on CruiseCritic about the non premium wine offerings. So, I was not impressed with many of the wines I tried at the wine tasting offered early on the cruise. To be honest, I had forgotten about it and I was probably in a rush to get to the bridge lesson (waste of time) and so I didn’t have a chance to savor each wine offering, take some notes and pair the wine w the offered nibbles. However, I agree w other posters who said they were always able to find a wine they were happy to drink. I found a red and a white that I liked and I would request that label if I didn’t like the wine that was offered to me.

In summary, wine is not a premium experience but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the cruise.

I had a BLAST! I have a So American cruise booked on Regent next year!

flossie009

We like Mariner and find the layout of the public areas much better than some of Regent's other ships; although the suites & bathrooms are superior on Regent's latest ships

We last cruised on her in October last year. Here is our blog:

Post #184 on page 8 gives a summary of our experience on board.

Our next cruise on Mariner is at the end of this year and we are looking forward to a Holiday cruise up the Amazon on this excellent ship.

I also traveled solo on Navigator last month, and had a fabulous time. They certainly know how to take care of their solo travelers. My husband was not able to join me, so I decided that I would cruise on my own. From the moment I got on board, everyone was so friendly. There was a scheduled get together in the lounge with an option to continue to the CR for dinner. Our group of eight were so congenial, that we continued dining together, joining for trivia,  bridge, excursions, etc. The Asst. Social Director, Lucy, was just wonderful, friendly and joined us for dinner on many evenings. She was also instrumental in making dinner reservations for our group at the specialty restaurants as well.

I look forward to cruising as a solo again with Regent, now that my husband’s health does not permit him to cruise. My only wish would be that Regent institute solo fares for all of their cruises.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am currently on Mariner since Miami in Jan on the World Cruise and have a numerous Regent cruises under the belt.  I agree with BBWC's comments above but add....

The ship is understaffed and service has suffered in the dining venues and bars.  As noted, inexperienced staff has been rolling in since Taiwan and Singapore - some never worked on a cruise ship before! - which has greatly taxed captains and the remaining experienced staff.  Food in my opinon is fine but better on Oceania - lots of repetition in menu items which is disappointing.

The experienced remaining staff are great and work very hard.  The Internet, as you have read on CC, has been unacceptable throughout the past 100+ days.

Our stateroom is also in need of new carpeting and furniture replaced - sofa cushions are very thin.

We’re considering a fall booking and wondered if Mariner has the same amazing bedding that Splendor has? Thanks and happy travels!

We were on the Mariner in October.  I love the layout of the ship.  We were on Mariner a number of times and on the inaugural sailing in 2001.

Food was good but service in the Dining room uneven.

Excursions were terrible.  We cancelled them after our bus had no microphone and the guide walked to the front and back to talk to pax.  Our first one was a shopping stop and our 2nd was also a shopping trip with a broken bus.

Our PH suite had a stained sofa.  It was threadbare.  The took the covers off the cushions and dry cleaned them but they really should have replaced the sofa.

There were also a few times we went to the Mariner Lounge and there was no where to have a drink and listen to music.

It was our first cruise post Covid.  We didn't expect perfection but we paid for excursions that were worthless and sorely disappointed in the state of the cabin.

Excursions were terrible.  We cancelled them after our bus had no microphone and the guide walked to the front and back to talk to pax.  Our first one was a shopping stop and our 2nd was also a shopping trip with a broken bus. Was there no seating in the Mariner Lounge or was there just no drinks or music?

Interested to know which PH you were in since we have one in upcoming cruise and one person stated that their PH suite had alot of issues but did not state which one.

We were in 1114, PH-A, in June and had no issues with the suite.

This is the same experience we had earlier this year. Plus toilet that didn’t flush & flooding from bathroom into the walk in closet. Not 5 star!!

We spent a month on Mariner last Dec into Jan and had no problems at all -- loved every minute!  It was absolutely 5 Star for us.  We're boarding Mariner again on Sep 3 for 28 nights and absolutely looking forward to it.

Top lawyer falls from cabin balcony into sea on luxury cruise

A corporate lawyer who vanished on a Mediterranean cruise ship fell feet first from a cabin balcony into the sea, a court heard.

Nigel Blythe-Tinker, 72, former head of legal at gaming giant William Hill, went missing while on board the luxury cruise ship Seven Seas Mariner , the world’s first cruise liner to boast “all suite, all balcony” cabins , in July last year.

The High Court heard that the alarm was raised when Blythe-Tinker, who also had a stint as chairman of Ladbrokes’ multibillion-pound parent company GVC Holdings, failed to disembark the ship at Barcelona, though he was on board when it departed Marseilles the previous day.

His family made “desperate attempts” to make contact with him, after which staff on the ship found his cabin empty with his “clothes folded neatly on the bed”.

Following evidence from Blythe-Tinker’s daughters, judge Chief Master Karen Shuman declared that their father met his death after falling feet first into the sea from his cabin balcony in the early hours of July 22.

The court heard that Blythe-Tinker, who was originally from Worksop, Notts, had been married three times and has two adult daughters, Sophie and Claire Blythe-Tinker.

He had been in the process of moving back to England after a period living in Australia when he vanished.

The 709-foot, 48,000-ton ship is hailed online as “one of the world’s best all-inclusive cruise ships”, with individual balconies attached to each cabin.

The cruise liner, which carries 700 passengers and 445 crew, was en route from Marseilles to Barcelona on July 21 2023 when Blythe-Tinker, who had been in “constant contact” with his family, began to display unusual behaviour and send messages in which he “wasn’t himself”.

Blythe-Tinker had been renovating a house in England he had bought near to the home of his “close” cousin Andrew Gilling and had told Mr Gilling that he had been worried about having enough money to complete the project.

He told his cousin he had had “a suicidal thought” and also seemed confused in messages with other family members, his London-based daughter Sophie, a history and politics teacher, told the judge.

His family contacted staff on the ship and the onboard doctor was dispatched to check on the lawyer, who said he had “no suicidal thoughts” and was physically well apart from back pain.

However, when the ship docked in Barcelona on the morning of July 22 last year, Blythe-Tinker did not disembark and his cabin was empty.

The ship’s CCTV revealed footage of an object – which appeared to be a person – falling from the vessel near to Blythe-Tinker’s cabin balcony and hitting the water.

Sophie Blythe-Tinker brought a High Court application for an examination of the circumstances in which her father vanished, asking for a declaration that he was dead.

She told the judge that he had seemed “strange” in his responses to messages and emails shortly before his disappearance.

When he failed to turn up at Heathrow airport – where he had been due to fly after leaving the ship in Barcelona – his family panicked and made “desperate attempts” to find out where he was. They eventually learned from the cruise company that he had never disembarked at Barcelona.

He ‘wasn’t himself’

Giving judgment in the case and declaring the missing lawyer officially dead, the judge said Blythe-Tinker had been “an active 72-year-old” who “travelled extensively”.

However, he “wasn’t himself” and had become “increasingly abnormal” during his time on the ship, she said.

“I have viewed the video evidence,” she said. “Something descends from the ship at 4.28am. I’m prepared to accept that that was a body and the direction is consistent with it coming from the suite Mr Blythe-Tinker was in.

“The ship was miles from any port or land at the time.

“I’m satisfied on the evidence before me that Mr Blythe-Tinker died at 4.28 central European time by falling to his death from the ship that he was on,” the judge concluded.
