BABYMETAL Announce North American Co-Headline Tour With DETHKLOK

Japanese metal band BABYMETAL have announced a co-headline tour with DETHKLOK, the on-screen heavy metal band and stars of Adult Swim’s “Metalocalypse,” and support from virtuoso guitarist Jason Richardson. BABYMETAL’s first time back to the US since before the pandemic, the 29-date Live Nation-produced BABYKLOK TOUR will kick off August 30th in Houston, TX, hitting Atlanta, Nashville, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, and many more (full dates below) before wrapping October 11th at Los Angeles’ YouTube Theater. The tour will support their recent, first-ever concept album, THE OTHER ONE.  

TICKETS:  Tickets will be available starting with a CITI presale (details below) beginning today at 12:00 PM ET. An artist presale will begin at 1:00 PM local time and include VIP package options for both artists. Last year BABYMETAL was “sealed” from the world after a successful 10-year journey. In April 2022, THE OTHER ONE restoration project began to recover the BABYMETAL we never knew existed within a virtual world called the METALVERSE. A total of 10 songs were discovered within THE OTHER ONE restoration project, with each song representing a unique theme based on 10 separate parallel worlds that they have discovered.  

On the heels of the tour announcement comes the news of the long-awaited return of Adult Swim’s favorite heavy metal adventure, “Metalocalypse.” In addition to DETHKLOK hitting the road, a full-length original film, written and directed by Brendon Small, “Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar ,” a companion soundtrack and “Dethalbum IV” will also arrive this year.

DETHKLOK and BABYMETAL announce North American tour

One of the coolest metal tours of the year has been announced. Today (April 11th),  Dethklok  —  the real-life incarnation of the  Metalocalypse  cartoon band — and Japanese kawaii-metal titans  Babymetal  have revealed they're teaming up for a co-headlining trek across North America later this year, with support from guitarist Jason Richardson (Chelsea Grin, Born of Osiris, All Shall Perish). 

Playfully dubbed the "Babyklok Tour," this will mark Dethklok's first actual tour in 11 (!) years, and it'll be Babymetal's first North American trek since 2019 — and therefore their first U.S. dates with newly-appointed third member, Momometal. 

The tour kicks off August 30th in Houston and travels throughout the U.S. — as well as a couple dates up in Canada — before concluding October 11th in Los Angeles. General tickets to on sale Friday April 14th at 10 a.m. local time, but Revolver subscribers can get theirs on Wednesday April 12th by using the code "REVOLVE." Get yours here .

The news arrives the same day Adult Swim announced that a new Metalocalypse movie, soundtrack and Dethklok album, Dethklok IV — their first since 2012's Dethklok III — will all be arriving later this year.

Earlier this month, BABYMETAL announced the addition of a new third member, Momoko Okazaki , who will go by the name of Momometal .

Okazaki had been a member of BABYMETAL 's trio of backup dancers (along with Kano Fujihira and Riho Sayashi ),known as " Avengers ", since 2019, following the departure of one of BABYMETAL 's original members, Yuimetal , in October 2018.

Momoko 's addition to BABYMETAL was announced during the band's show at the Pia Arena MM in Okazaki, Japan.

Momoko was once a member of SAKURA GAKUIN and participated in South Korean reality TV show "Girls Planet 999" as a contestant. However, the singer left the series after the show's first elimination round.

In 2018, BABYMETAL announced the departure of Yuimetal , who was formerly one of the members of the Japanese group's core trio. She exited the band, explaining in a statement that she would go on to pursue a solo career as Mizuno Yu .

BABYMETAL was formed in 2010. Their mission was to unify the world through heavy metal by creating a fusion of heavy metal and the Japanese pop genre. Their music contains a stunning mix of electronic pop, a pinch of alternative and industrial rock, and is leveled up by fast-driven heavy metal. Their live shows are ground-breaking and epic visual as well as sound performances. BABYMETAL continued to travel the path of metal with the international release of their three albums, telling the story of the mighty Fox God and his brave metal warriors.

A book about the first ten years of BABYMETAL , "Bessatsu Kadokawa Souryoku Tokushuu" , was released in Japan in October 2020. It contains a long interview with Su-metal and Moametal as well as never-before-heard stories from band producer Kobametal from BABYMETAL 's decade-long history, photos taken from live shows, a discussion between Demon Kakka and Kobametal , and much more.

BABYMETAL 's latest concept album "The Other One" , was released on March 24.

On the heels of the tour announcement comes the news of the long-awaited return of "Metalocalypse" . In addition to DETHKLOK hitting the road, a full-length original film, written and directed by DETHKLOK 's Brendon Small , "Metalocalypse: Army Of The Doomstar" , a companion soundtrack and "Dethalbum IV" will also arrive this year.

Babymetal are heading to the US for a run of dates with Dethklok, billed as the Babyklock 2023 tour

Babymetal have announced a co-headline 2023 trek with Dethklok, aka the on-screen heavy metal band and stars of Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse.

The bands will head off across the US on the Babyklok tour starting from August 30 in Houston, Texas. They'll make stops in Atlanta, Nashville, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Las Vegas and many more cities before signing off on October 11 in Los Angeles.

The Babyklock tour will serve as the first time the kawaii metallers have performed in the US since before the pandemic, and will see them deliver songs from their recently-released new album The Other One .

Tickets will become available first via a presale through CITI (the official club card of the Babyklok tour) starting from today (April 11) at 12:00 PM ET. 

Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on sale that commences on April 14 at 10:00 AM local time. 

In October, Babymetal will take to the stage at Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, alongside headliners Guns N' Roses, Tool, Avenged Sevenfold and Korn. The event is set to take place at Discovery Park from October 5 until October 8.

Earlier this month, Babymetal welcomed their third new member , Momometal, real name Momoko Okazaki.

The Japanese band announced their new addition on April 1 (AKA 'Fox Day'), during a show at the Pia Arena MM in Yokohama, Japan. Okazaki has served as one of Babymetal’s three backing dancers, known as the Avengers, since 2019.

Fans may also recognise Okazaki from Girls Planet 999 , a South Korean reality tv show which she appeared on in 2021, although was shortly booted off in the show’s first elimination round.

BABYMETAL And DETHKLOK Announce ‘Babyklok’ 2023 North American Co-Headline Tour

The Japanese metal group BABYMETAL has revealed a joint headlining tour with DETHKLOK , the animated heavy metal band featured in Adult Swim ‘s “Metalocalypse” , along with support from talented guitarist Jason Richardson .

Marking BABYMETAL ‘s return to the U.S. after the pandemic, the 29-concert “Babyklok” tour, organized by Live Nation, will commence on August 30 in Houston, Texas, and travel through cities such as Atlanta, Nashville, Philadelphia, New York, and Chicago, culminating on October 11 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. This tour will promote BABYMETAL ‘s latest and first-ever concept album, The Other One .

General on-sale will be on Friday, April 14 at 10 a.m. local.

Stunning, amazing, breathtaking... I don't know which word to use to describe it the best. Such a great and professional performance from Babymetal, I just can't praise them enough. The feel you get from seeing them perform in person has a completely different vibe to it than just listening to them on Youtube. Everyone in crowd was going wild, everyone there shared the same love for the band and that made it even better!

This was my first time seeing Babymetal. Our Tucson, Arizona show was decent, and I was very excited to see the act. However, I felt a little underwhelmed when the show was over. I think my biggest complaint was the set length. The set list was only about an hour long. At the end, they just left the stage. No encore, no "we love you guys, Tucson is the best!", nothing. The crowd stayed around for a minute, wondering, "is this really it?" I kinda felt jipped. The saving grace for the event was the opening act. I'd never heard of Avatar before this show, and I didn't YouTube any of their music prior to the show. I thought they were a little silly at first, with the outfits and face paint and voice style and everything, but in the end, I enjoyed Avatar a lot. Sadly, more than the Babymetal act. Would I see Babymetal again? Yes, but I'd be going in with lowered expectations. Would I see Avatar again? Absolutely, and with deserved high expectations.

So the Babymetal concert was a fantastic show. The songs, the choreography, the lightshow, all were brilliant. I didn't even really mind the addition of two new dancers that much. The Kami Band was of course excellent.

However, missing one member of the original line-up (Yui) made the show feel distinctly un-Babymetal-like. The 'kawaii' that made the act so endearing in the first place is missing without the trio of girls. Not that they can't be allowed to grow up, but they're a team, and the interaction of the three of them is noticably missing.

Overall, very worth the trouble to see. Just...different from earlier Babymetal.

The eagerly anticipated “BABYKLOK Tour” is upon us, showcasing co-headlining sets by Japanese pop-metal outfit BABYMETAL and brutish heavy metal band Dethklok of Metalocalypse fame. The outing ( tickets available here ) launched in late August and is currently making its way through North American cities, culminating in a final show in Los Angeles on October 11th. One of its recent sold-out stops was in the heart of New York City on Friday night (September 15th) at the legendary Hammerstein Ballroom.

The night marked BABYMETAL’s triumphant return to the Big Apple after a pandemic-induced hiatus, and the kawaii metal sensations lived up to expectations by delivering a captivating 11-song set that spanned their entire four-album discography. Fronted by three core singers and dancers — namely Su-metal, Moametal, and new full-time member Momometal — and accompanied by their instrumental backing group known as the ‘Kami Band,’ BABYMETAL lit up the stage with vivid energy. The band tore through a selection of epic songs, including “BABYMETAL DEATH,” “Gimme Chocolate!!,” “Distortion,” and “Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!,” leaving the audience in a craze with each successive hit.

On tour in support of their recent concept album, THE OTHER ONE , BABYMETAL took the opportunity to dazzle the audience with the infectious melodies of their new tracks “Believing” and “Monochrome.” Furthermore, the band went on to thrill fans with the brand-new, riff-packed track “METALI!!,” featuring blistering licks contributed by none other than Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello (who was shown on a video screen playing his guitar parts). The night concluded with a powerful rendition of “Road of Resistance” from the band’s monumental 2016 album, Metal Resistance .

The formidable Dethklok devastated the stage with a hefty 16-song set, overwhelming both the eyes and ears of the audience with their ear-splitting riffs and a visually intense display that could induce seizures. Led by musician and Metalocalypse show co-creator Brendon Small, and also featuring legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, ex-Testament, ex-Strapping Young Lad) and more, the animated act transformed into a real-life, high-octane headbanging extravaganza as they ripped through a relentless lineup of callous tracks, including “Briefcase Full of Guts,” “Bloodlines,” “Hatredcopter,” and “I Ejaculate Fire.”

With a colossal LED video wall looming in the background, displaying gruesome imagery from the Metalocalypse television series and new movie Army of the Doomstar , the band delivered an unrelenting performance in near-total darkness. This deliberate choice directed fans’ attention solely to the persistent assault of laser lights and sinister cartoon depictions projected behind them. The band would only step into the spotlight at the end of their sonic onslaught, allowing them to express their gratitude to the attentive crowd.

Virtuoso guitarist Jason Richardson (All That Remains, ex-Chelsea Grin) initiated the evening with an entrancing performance, showcasing his solo material from his albums I and II .

LIVE REVIEW: BABYKLOK North America Tour 2023

The world is far from black or white, evil or benign. It is all mixed up.  And then you get things that are mashup by design getting mixed up too, and you get BABYKLOK. What is it? It is the heavy metal music tour where animated metal band Dethklok performs with actual band that is behind their animated characters and then you add Japanese band Babymetal who pioneered J-pop and heavy metal mashup known as Kawaii metal. And combining these two you get BABYKLOK 2023. They slay their way through North America on their twenty-nine date national tour that began August 30 with support of virtuoso guitarist Jason Richardson.

While New York City traffic erased my chance to see and hear Jason Richardson. I had a chance to witness a special performance by a very special band – Dethklok. Dethklok is a fictional melodic death metal band featured in the Adult Swim animated television series “Metalocalypse”, known for its satirical or parodic lyrical themes. The first official Dethklok album was released on September 25, 2007, entitled “The Dethalbum”. After some time off, the band released a new album this year called: “Dethalbum IV” and released a full-length original film, written and directed by Brendon Small, “Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar,” with a companion soundtrack.

The note: Live band looks a bit different than animated version 🙂 Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, the creators of animated band are also the members of a live band with Brendon on guitar and vocals. I could probably think of many bands Dethklok could go on tour, and kawaii metal legends Babymetal  probably would not have been on my list, but, oh boy, this was the match made in deepest corner of metal hell. Dethklok played their set by letting their animated version take over the visuals, as band had no spotlight on them and big screen on the stage showed animation. Yet, the connection between musician and crowd still persisted and the performance was received very well. Most songs on the setlist represented the original “Deathalbum” with my personal favorite “Murmaider”.

BABYKLOK tour show was about to enter a whole new level of excitement. Sold out venue grew in anticipation of the night’s headliner, kawaii metal pioneers and legends Babymetal. Band consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto as “Su-metal”, Moa Kikuchi as “Moametal” and Momoko Okazaki as “Momometal”, with Suzuka and Moa being original members and Momoko joining the band just recently. Bands style has received mixed opinions from the fans of the metal world, but the outpouring of support has been overwhelming as more and more people embrace their style. Kawaii metal has spread though Japan as more bands have adopted it and is starting to spread outside Japan to places like South Korea.

Whilst the bands setlist consisted of 11 songs, it was energy packed. As the band doesn’t tour stateside that very often as we would like to, the capacity crowd roared in appreciation between every song and fans ,girls and boys alike, screamed from top of their lungs. Opening song “Babymetal Death” was preceded by short video intro to help immerse in a Babymetal metalverse. It was followed by same high energy “Gimme Chocolate!” and “PA PA YA!!”.

Animated metal band Dethklok brings tour with Babymetal to the Masonic for two nights

The popular death metal band led by Brendan Small, the creative force behind popular Adult Swim animated show "Metalocalypse," Dethklok comes to the Masonic in San Francisco for two shows with co-headliners Babymetal.

Arguably the second most popular virtual band behind Gorillaz (the animated group helmed by Blur singer Damon Albarn), Dethklok made their as the stars of "Metalocalypse" when the show created by Small and partner/voice actor Tommy Blancha debuted in 2006. The world biggest death metal band in the program's absurd and surreal alternate universe, Dethklok stands as the planet's seventh largest economy despite the fact that the group's members are idiotic incompetents incapable of doing anything besides writing and performing brutal metal songs.

The quintet of singer Nathan Explosion (who was inspired by Cannibal Corpse vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher), guitarists Skwisgaar Skwigelf and Toki Wartooth, bassist William Murderface and drummer Pickles live and work in their massive fortress-like home and studio Mordhaus, venturing into the world to secure lucrative sponsorship deals and play huge concerts for their legions of fanatical followers with outlandish stage theatrics like over-the-top pyrotechnics, lasers and a giant swinging pendulum blade, inevitably resulting in widespread death and destruction.

Over the course of four seasons and a special broadcast on Adult Swim, "Metalocalypse" became one of the network's more popular shows and a favorite among musicians, with such notable figures as King Diamond, Alice Cooper, Jon Hamm, Werner Herzog, Jack Black and members of Metallica, Exodus, Emperor and Mastodon appearing on the show. Dethklok further built on its fanbase with a series of studio albums featuring the satirical songs featured the show like "Murmaider," "Bloodrocuted" and "Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle." The band also delivered entertaining live performances with widescreen clips of the animated band projected behind Small and his talented band including monster drummer Gene Hogland (Dark Angel, Death, Strapping Young Lad, Testament, Devin Townsend) and former Frank Zappa collaborator Mike Kenneally on guitar.

Dethklok would make regular festival appearances and tour with the likes of Mastodon, High On Fire, Machine Head and the Black Dahlia Murder. After the broadcast of the hour-long rock opera special, "Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem" in 2013, the band continued to perform, but the project went on hiatus after the show was cancelled two years later.

The band returned to action in 2019, playing the Adult Swim Festival to ecstatic crowds. Dethklok also returned to the festival post-pandemic in 2022. The following year, Smalls was at last able to release the final chapter in the Dethklok story with the film Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar , which was accompanied by both a soundtrack and the band issuing its acclaimed fourth studio recording,  Dethalbum IV .

With the show having run its course, the band's current tour could be Dethklok's last hurrah as it takes to the road with previous touring partners and co-headliners Babymetal which stops at the Masonic for two nights starting Wednesday . A sensation in their native Japan since first forming in 2010, the group mixes elements of heavy metal with elements of J-Pop and "kawaii" -- the Japanese "culture of cuteness" as exemplified by Hello Kitty and Pokemon. Singer Suzuka Nakamoto had impressed producer Kobametal (aka Key Kobayashi) in her earlier girl groups Karen Girl's and Sakura Gakuin when he wanted to start a new band performing a heavier style of music.

Initially a successful offshoot of Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became independent in 2013 and enjoyed growing popularity with the release of their self-titled debut the following year. Featuring Nakamoto along with fellow singers Moa Kikuchi (also a member of Sakura Gakuin) and Yui Mizuno executing synchronized dance moves and melodic vocals backed by a group of shredding metal session players known as the Kami Band, the album delivered a dizzying juxtaposition of sunshine pop and metallic crunch. The band rocketed to success in Japan and were playing sold-out shows to thousands when the girls were still in their teens.

The notoriety in their native land soon led to international touring in Europe and North America, with Babymetal appearing at major metal festivals and opening for Lady Gaga. By the time the band was set to release their sophomore album Metal Resistance in 2016, they were headlining Wembley Arena in London and the huge Tokyo Dome to 55,000 screaming fans. More high-profile support gigs with the Red Hot Chili Peppers followed.

While the band suffered some hardship with the accidental death of guitarist Mikio Fujioka late in 2017 after he fell from an observation deck and the departure of Mizuno due to health reasons the next year, Babymetal continued to tour and in 2023 announced the addition of Momoko Okazaki as Fujioka's permanent replacement. The band plays fan favorites and songs from its fourth album The Other One  at the Masonic. Opening acts on the two nights will be different, with hyper-technical British power metal band DrangonForce playing Wednesday and theatrical LA-based melodic death metallers Nekrogoblikon kicking off the show Thursday.
