Silversea Cruises Canada / New England Cruises

Autumn breezes will echo your name on a luxury Silversea cruise to Canada and New England. Picture the vibrantly colored trees swaying as you and your loved ones sail by, passing picturesque lighthouses and glistening waters. Now, imagine the New England seafood you’ll eat and the fascinating Canadian history you will learn on one of these popular cruises. Touch upon some out-of-the-way towns that offer you a chance to relax and take in the beauty of the land, and the quaint people of these ports. You’ll be delighted by the culture and history of a Silversea Canada and New England cruise.

Things to Do on a Canada and New England Cruise with Silversea Cruises

Explore the great big cities of the United States’ East Coast, like New York and Boston, but also see some quiet and quaint towns like Peggy’s Cove in Halifax and Portland in Maine. No matter how you choose to spend your time, when cruising to Canada and New England with Silversea Cruises, you’re sure to create cherished moments and fond memories.

Silversea Cruises Peggys Cove Lighthouse in Nova Scotia, Canada

  • Peggy’s Cove Coastal Drive (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) Explore Peggy’s Cove, the lighthouse on the rugged terrain on a hill above St. Margaret’s Bay. Peggy’s Cove is also home to a fishermen’s memorial as well as a memorial to those killed in a 1998 plane crash, the William E. deGarthe Memorial and the Swissair Memorial, respectively.

Silversea Cruises Elms Mansion in Newport, Rhode Island

  • Doris Duke’s Mansion (Newport, Rhode Island) Heiress to a tobacco fortune, Doris Duke was the tabloid staple of her day. However, unlike today’s starlets, Duke was very accomplished as an art collector, horticulturist and philanthropist. Visit her mansion in Newport where you’ll see the art and furniture she collected. She also helped preserve 80 buildings in Newport, Rhode Island.

Silversea Cruises Bay of Fundy at St. Martins, New Brunswick, Canada

  • Fundy’s Irving Nature Park Hike (St. John’s, New Brunswick) Take in beautiful views of the Bay of Fundy at this 600-acre nature park. The park is home to 250 bird species, and many people often spot whales off the coastline. The park also features lots of hiking trails for you to take a leisurely stroll or work up a sweat.

Silversea Cruises New York City with September 11 Tribute

  • Lower Manhattan and 9/11 Memorial (New York City, New York) Manhattan is the heart of New York City. In lower Manhattan you’ll explore the financial center of the country, and some would say the world, at Wall Street. This is also the site of the One World Trade Center (aka Freedom Tower) and a memorial to the lives lost in the tragic events of 9/11. Here you can pay your respects and learn about that day and its impact.

Silversea Cruises Old Quebec City, Canada

  • Grand Exploration and Ile d’Orleans (Quebec City, Quebec) Ile d’Orleans is a quiet rural area just 15 minutes outside of Quebec City. Here you’ll find farmland and beautiful green spaces. You’ll also find a vineyard, chocolate store and strawberry fields. On this Silversea excursion you’ll also see houses from the 1800s and the Manoir Mauvide-Genest which was built in 1734.

Silversea Cruises Portland Headlight Lighthouse

  • Golf at Sable Oak Golf Club (Portland, Maine) Get your swing on at the Sable Oak Golf Club, which has 18 holes and is surrounded by beautiful trees and picturesque ponds. This course was even voted as the best golf course in Maine by Down East Magazine. For all you golf lovers out there, this is the perfect Silversea excursion to unwind on the course and take in the true beauty of Portland.

Silversea Cruises to Canada

Picture the perfect fall cruise: Beautiful scenery always a few steps away from the deck, delicious dining complementing luxurious accommodations, and ports and excursions catering to a range of interests, from exploring the outdoors to shopping and strolling.

Silversea designs such an experience with its cruises to Canada and New England. The Silver Whisper boards in Montreal or New York to travel in one direction through the Northeast and Eastern Canada. Major metropolitan centers, like Boston or Quebec City, and ports adjacent to the wilderness beg you to explore for different reasons.

No matter which direction the Silver Whisper takes, it travels to the following ports: • Boston • Portland • Halifax • Sydney • Ilen de La Madeline • Gaspe • Sept-Iles • Baie-Comeau • Quebec City • Montreal

The assortment presents opportunities for tasting the area’s unique cuisine, such as lobster rolls, whale watching, exploring the landscape and ports along the beautiful St. Lawrence River, and visiting its many national parks.

Popular Ports

Montreal: French Canada’s cultural center began centuries ago as an Iroquois settlement and was later visited by explorer Jacques Cartier. Although it existed as a French settlement for years after, 1759 saw the British take control. In Canada’s history, railroads and industry converged here, ultimately fueling it to become the cosmopolitan center it is today – one with large immigrant populations in the city, major shopping destinations, and its own underground city.

Quebec City: This Canadian city sits on a cliff overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Like Montreal, Quebec City dates back several hundred years, with 17th and 18th century architecture hinting at its past. Explore the historical aspects as you’re in town, or enjoy the view.

Gaspe: This port on the Gaspe Peninsula by the St. Lawrence River serves as the entryway to vast coastal landscapes and the Bay of Gaspe, which stretches 21 miles inland. Jacques Cartier also visited this point, and since then, Gaspe has become one of Canada’s fishing industry centers. These days, it’s a perfect destination for outdoor and history enthusiasts, with two national parks and the Perce Settlement nearby.

Sydney: Nova Scotia’s second-largest city consists of several villages and towns strung together. Sydney sprung up around the coal industry, and as a result, several immigrant populations arrived and made their home in the city.

Halifax: This city with the feel of a small town sits right on the world’s second-largest natural harbor. Visit it for the scenery or explore many of its public gardens, arts, sports, or theater attractions.

See all Eastern Canada and New England have to offer with a luxurious, intimate Silversea cruise. Select an itinerary and make reservations today through Direct Line Cruises.

Vancouver, BC, Canada

Cruises from Vancouver depart from spring through fall. Located on the southwestern coast of British Columbia, Vancouver is Canada's third most populous city. The bustling metropolis is known for its cultural diversity, which is on display in areas like Chinatown, brimming with authentic eateries and apothecaries. Gastown, Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, exudes historic charm thanks to cobblestone streets and Victorian architecture harmoniously interspersed with trendy boutiques and galleries. Outdoor activities abound in the urban Stanley Park, home to gardens, beaches, trails, totem poles and the seawall amid a lush forested setting totaling about 1,000 acres. The city is a jumping-off point for whale-watching tours, which reward keen eyes with glimpses of orcas and humpback whales as well as pelicans, puffins and bald eagles. A short hop northward across the harbor into North Vancouver is Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, where seven bridges and a cliff walk delight thrill-seekers.

Cruise Canada New England New York Quebec City

I t’s a part of the world that’s always been in the back of your mind – so close, really, you could touch it. Eastern Canada and the New England states are a world unto their own, a quiet, leisurely combo of maritime adventure just waiting to be added to your calendar. Silversea has the answer, with 10- and 12-day sailings between New York or Boston and Québec City , running in both directions on the venerable Silver Shadow . From mid-June to mid-August, Silversea’s summer itineraries will whisk you away to dozens of interesting ports of call, along with just 392 guests – and an industry-leading 302 crew to look after your every whim.

Once known as New France, up until the mid-1700s, Québec City on the banks of the St. Lawrence River is one of the oldest cities in North America, it’s 400-year-old ramparts rivaling San Juan for longevity. The rich history and gorgeous architecture are bested only by the fabulous food. Visitors stroll the boardwalk, ride the funicular linking the upper and lower parts of town, ponder the boutiques of Quartier Petit Champlain and taste their way through the market stalls of Marché du Vieux-Port. The historic charms of Québec flow to the fjords of Saguenay and on to the national parks of the Gaspé Peninsula, the tides of the Bay of Fundy and cosmopolitan Halifax. Eastern Canada brings one natural delight after another – sandy beaches, scenic bays, rocky cliffs – not to mention unique port cities, laying bare their urban highlights and historic lore. The Gulf of St. Lawrence is the world’s largest estuary, once filled with much simpler vessels than the Silver Shadow , with a mix of French, Acadian and First Nations maritime history.

silversea cruises canada

The birthplace of America is next – New England, with its trove of seafaring heritage, great food and pastoral prettiness. Boston’s iconic Freedom Trail and the storied mansions of Newport take you back to a simpler time of new beginnings, while delivering an extremely interesting present. These east coast regions set you up for the urban surge that is New York, with all its glamorous glory. What more is there to say about this iconic town? This is your chance to have its imprint etched into your mind. The landmarks, the theaters, the shopping! The Met, Guggenheim and MoMA deliver internationally renowned art. One World Trade Center, Hudson Yards, the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty are icons that bridge the past with the present. And the retail fever will take you firmly within its grip for block after block.

silversea cruises canada

The nice thing about these Silversea itineraries is the variety; if you think all these spots are the same, think again. You will experience authentic divergence, historic intrigue, environments breathtaking in their natural simplicity and welcoming people who will absolutely make your holiday. While the Silver Shadow is indeed lovely, off-ship experiences – in some places more than a half dozen! – get you out into the heart of the landscape, with activities for every mobility level. Experience a multitude of regional boat and food tours, hiking and kayaking, whale watching and harbor tours, scenic drives, heritage tours and maritime tales. As for the Silver Shadow , it has the highest space-to-guest ratio at sea, full stop. Comfortable suites and surroundings are augmented by modern international cuisine, and an old-style approach to service – including proper tea at 4 p.m. sharp. The Tully Travel Designers can easily write this luxury cruise into your travel agenda in ink. All you have to do is say yes to all-included food and beverages (including wine and premium spirits), butler service and shore excursions. Door-to-door pricing, which includes private executive transfers, is also available to help make your trip to Eastern Canada and the New England States even more effortless.

Silversea Takes Delivery of Silver Ray, Its Second Nova Class Ship. Here’s an Insider Look

  • NJova class
  • Mediterranean

Silversea took delivery May 14 of Silver Ray, its second Nova Class ship.

Boarding Silver Ray in Eemshaven, Netherlands, on Tuesday, Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean Group’s President and CEO, celebrated the ship’s official handover with Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea; Bernard Meyer, Chairman of the Meyer Group, and Bernd Eikens, the Meyer Group CEO; executives from the Meyer-Werft shipyard and Royal Caribbean Group; and Capt. Alessandro Zanello. Attendees participated in storied maritime traditions, including flag-changing and signing ceremonies, commemorative speeches, and a celebratory toast.

Silver Ray, Silversea’s second Nova Class ship, debuts on its maiden voyage in June from Civitavecchia (the Port of Rome) and will build on the momentum of Silver Nova , launched in 2023. Silver Ray mirrors its acclaimed predecessor, carrying 728 passengers and 544 crew and measuring 54,700 GRT, or Gross Registered Tonnage, which indicates space in the ship. This creates a seamless experience because the groundbreaking layout and new features will be the same for both Nova Class ships.

“Silver Ray , the second ship in our cutting-edge Nova Class, alongside sister ship Silver Nova, beautifully encompasses Royal Caribbean Group’s vision for the future of innovative ultra-luxury and expedition cruise travel,” said Bert Hernandez, President, Silversea. “In addition to being one of the most energy efficient ships ever built, Silver Ray’s game-changing, outward-facing ship design enables greater access and connection for our guests to the incredible destinations we visit.

“As far as firsts go, I feel honored that my first delivery as president of Silversea is to welcome Silver Ray to our fleet alongside Jason, my Royal Caribbean Group colleagues, and the wonderful Meyer-Werft team. I can’t wait for our guests to experience everything this remarkable ship has to offer.”

Silver Ray is a continuation of a legacy in ultra-luxury voyages as the 12 th ship in the Silversea fleet. Silver Ray is the second Silversea vessel to be constructed at Germany’s Meyer-Werft shipyard. (Silver Nova’s float-out took place in May 2023 and it made its first passenger voyage in August of that year .)

Innovation continues on Silver Ray

Beginning with its basic structure, the difference in the Nova Class starts with its steel frame. When it made its debut, Silver Nova (and now Silver Ray) are the largest and most spacious of the Silversea fleet.

This breakthrough in layout means more space to accommodate plush lounges and extraordinary bars and restaurants.

Silversea pairs the ships’ contemporary aesthetic with additional open-air spaces, creating Silversea’s connection between the ship and guests’ surroundings both indoors and on deck. The design difference on both ships extends to their all-balcony suites, which include some of the best views on any vessel.

Here’s a closer look at the elements that make this second Nova Class vessel unique.

Two new buzzwords in design for Silversea

silversea cruises canada

As the second of its Nova Class ships, Silver Ray, along with Silver Nova, is unique for Silversea in that its design is horizontal rather than vertical (in which all suites are located forward while public rooms are toward the aft). The benefit with a horizontal layout is that the designers ensure that public room decks feature higher ceilings for a more spacious ambience and a better guest flow.

And, conversely, on Ray and Nova, all suites are grouped together on four different decks. The advantage here is that, with suites stretch from forward to aft Silversea is offering more variety in layouts. For instance, an entirely new category of suites is built around the ship’s aft section, and feature great wake views.

Bringing key structural elements toward the inside of the ship also allows  more seamless integration between the outside  elements and the ship’s interior. Floor-to-ceiling glass will form many of the structural but see-through “barriers” around the decks, which means unimpeded views.

Enhanced technology has eliminated noise and vibrations from the engine room on Nova Class vessels, allowing latitude in the placement of suites and public spaces.

Dazzling public spaces

silversea cruises canada

Silver Ray has an impressive 1,400-square-foot pool area. Nova Class pools are the largest in the fleet. Also on the outer decks are an infinity-style Cliff Whirlpool on Deck 11 and the Dusk Bar, a new venue that debuted on Silver Nova, one deck below.

The Shelter, an intimate, evening-only bar with a capacity of 32, is new to the Nova Class and is part of Silver Ray as well. This Deck 3 venue is ideal for a pre-dinner drink or a nightcap, opening to the Atrium with premium surf-and-turf restaurant  Atlantide and the immersive  S.A.L.T. Kitchen featuring regional cuisine, on either side.

The Venetian Lounge can accommodate 370 guests, who can listen to lectures or attend performances in this two-story space. The larger S.A.L.T. Lab  and  S.A.L.T. Bar  have been relocated from their midship position on other Silversea ships to Deck 10 for views that integrate the outside into the spaces.

On Silver Ray, the  Otium Spa (a spa concept that debuted in spring 2022 onboard Silver Dawn and is also found on Silver Nova) will also feature a sprawling thermal suite inspired by the ancient baths of Rome. Guests will find a steam room, sauna, decorative water fountain and floor-to-ceiling windows. These Otium Spas contain a spa-centric indoor pool.

Inventive suites

silversea cruises canada

Silver Ray has 13 suite categories that contain a choice of 364 suites. The ship’s interior design highlights premium, residential touches, including decorative lighting, fluted mirrors and plush furniture. The concept is described as “whispered luxury.”

The crown jewel of any Silversea suite at sea are the  Otium Suites , a new category that has eye-catching “walls of windows” offering a 270-degree view. Again, the ship’s design allows this unique space at the aft starboard corner. Guests in Otium Suites, at 1,324 square feet, will be treated to a large living room as well as premium amenities.

Master Suites , also a new concept aboard the Nova Class, offer accommodations of 721 to 826 square feet and have balconies that wrap around the back of the ship and bathrooms that offer views to the outside.  Medallion Suites  are 50 percent wider than a standard veranda suite and have a larger balcony.

Re-imagined dining concepts

silversea cruises canada

Five decks’ worth of restaurants, bars and entertainment spaces create a lively hub on Silver Ray. Ten bars and lounges along with eight distinct dining venues create a bounty of choices. These venues are spread across the ship, allowing easier social connections in a more open-concept floor plan.

Returning restaurant concepts include Atlantide and S.A.L.T. Kitchen, along with  design concepts new to the Nova Class , including the  Marquee . This light-filled space on Deck 10 incorporates the existing Grill and Spaccanapoli authentic pizzeria into one casual but elegant dining venue.

Specialty dining favorites Kaiseki and  La Dame  are more luxe than ever. Wine plays an important role at La Dame, where exclusive pairings will be offered.

On Silver Ray, art remains at the heart

Exclusive artwork will be the primary element that distinguishes Silver Ray from Silver Nova.

Like Silver Nova , Silver Ray will carry more than 1,700 pieces of artwork onboard, in various media that might include sculpture, collage, photography and tapestry. Expect antique maps and a unique muraled ceiling in the library that beckons passengers to look up and revel in the piece painted specifically for this spot.

Silver Ray’s on-board dress code

During the day, guests can don casual wear similar to five-star resort sportswear. The revision to the dress code also notes that guests should wear flats or low heels on deck.

After 6 p.m., elegant casual is the expectation. Women may wear slacks (or skirts) and blouses or an informal dress. Men may wear a collared shirt and slacks, but a jacket is optional. If you would like to wear dressier garb, you are welcome to do that. Note that on formal-optional nights, men must wear a jacket indoors.

Based on the length of the cruise, you might not need formal attire. A seven-day cruise is elegant casual every evening, unless you wish to go dressier. An eight- to 14-day cruise has one or two formal optional nights, and a cruise of 15 days or more will have at least two formal optional nights.

What’s next for Ray

Frequently Asked Questions

Full itineraries for world cruises typically last anywhere from around 100 to 180 days, though Royal Caribbean International 's Serenade of the Seas is currently sailing the longest world cruise at 274 days. If you're not able to set sail for three to five months (or longer), some cruise lines also offer select, shorter segments of their full world cruise itineraries or grand voyages, which are typically two to three months in length.

World cruise fares can vary significantly between cruise lines. Some lines advertise cruise-only fares, which do not include meals at specialty restaurants, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, excursions, some entertainment, or other expenses. On top of that, many cruise lines' base prices exclude port fees and taxes. Given the length of a world cruise, even small expenses can add up after several months on the ship and in ports around the globe. Typically, travelers can expect to spend a base fare of about $15,000 for an inside cabin and as much as $90,000 (or more) for luxury accommodations and an all-inclusive fare.

If you're considering sailing beyond 2025, Regent Seven Seas Cruises recently announced its 140-night 2027 world cruise, World of Splendor, sailing from Miami to New York. The voyage embarks on Jan. 11, 2027, aboard Seven Seas Splendor , and prices start at $91,499 per person. If you want to reserve the over-the-top Regent Suite, you'll need to budget an unheard-of $1.7 million for two guests ($839,999 per person, to be exact).

Regent Seven Seas' all-inclusive fares include almost everything you could need, including door-to-door luggage service, first and business class airfare, pre-cruise gala events, exclusive shoreside experiences, unlimited dry cleaning and laundry, prepaid gratuities, meals, open bars and lounges, unlimited Wi-Fi access, and more. Silversea also offers door-to-door pricing that includes private executive transfers, international business class flights, pre- and post-cruise hotels and transfers, baggage valet, all meals and beverages, butler service, bespoke special events, and other amenities.

Depending on the cruise line, you may receive many additional perks when booking a full world cruise, including shore excursions. All-inclusive luxury lines like Silversea and Regent Seven Seas offer a list of complimentary shore excursions in every port. In addition, Silversea hosts a bon voyage reception, a private dinner and an overnight hotel stay for world cruise guests. It also features exclusive world cruise cultural events in ports around the globe. If you're sailing with Regent Seven Seas, you'll also have pre-cruise gala events and exclusive shoreside experiences throughout the cruise.

Special inclusions, upgrades and other amenities are available with other lines that are not all-inclusive. For example, guests on boutique cruise line Azamara's 2025 world cruise will receive $25,000 in benefits, including $3,000 for shore excursions, 13 exclusive events and much more. Oceania's " simply MORE" offer includes $8,200 in shore excursion credit, as well as many other amenities.

If you're sailing with a larger cruise line, it's also possible to find deals that may include shore excursions or onboard credit you can use for booking tours. Holland America Line offers guests an early booking bonus that includes a list of additional perks, including one complimentary shore excursion, $2,000 per person in onboard credit ($4,000 for solo travelers) and more. MSC Cruises includes 15 free shore excursions and other perks when you book its world cruise.

You may want to consult with a travel agent specializing in cruises to see what additional perks they can offer if you book your world cruise through their agency.

Royal Caribbean International's 274-night Ultimate World Cruise, which set sail in December 2023, will visit all seven continents before guests disembark in September 2024.

Holland America Line's 132-day Grand World Voyage cruise aboard Volendam in 2026 will also visit seven continents, circumnavigating the globe. The epic journey will include a four-day Antarctic experience.
