Himachal pradesh government issued advisory for tourists as travel restrictions were eased in the state in view of declining trend in coronavirus cases..

Himachal Pradesh government on Monday issued travel advisory for tourists visiting the state as the government relaxed curbs in view of drop in Covid-19 cases.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that people visiting the state will have to register online and apply for a Covid e-pass.

The chief minister said that everyone who wished to enter the state are now required to enter their particulars online. He further added that the details of visitor's arrival were being shared with all the concerned stakeholders.

"Government has removed the condition of RT-PCR requirement to enter the State. Nobody will be allowed to flout the norms fixed by the government to check spread of the coronavirus." Jai Ram Thakur said.

Hoteliers have been directed to strictly follow the SOPs issued by the state government.

CM Jai Ram Thakur also asked the tourists to follow Covid-19 protocols.

“I appeal to the tourists to adhere to these guidelines, wear the facemasks and maintain social distancing," the chief minister said.

Tourists rushed to the hill state as soon as the state government eased travel restrictions. Hundreds of cars were seen on the road leading to Himachal Pradesh, causing massive congestion.

Travel Advisory! Himachal Pradesh Put on High Alert After Heavy Rainfall

Himachal Pradesh has been put on high alert following landslides at several places on Saturday night. A large number of roads were blocked as heavy rainfall triggered landslides in many areas of the state.

Landslide disrupted road traffic on NH-5 and massive jam lead to inconvenience as the highway was blocked for few hours in Kinnaur district.

The landslide also lead to partial damage of NH-3 between Manali and Kullu on Saturday morning.

Though light and medium vehicles could move at snail’s pace, heavy vehicles were stuck in jam waiting for the debris to be cleared.

Train services were also disrupted between Shimla and Kalka on Sunday after multiple landslides blocked the rail route in the state.

According to media reports, as many as 22 people have lost their lives in separate rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh. Nine people died in Shimla, five in Solan, two each in Kullu, Solan Sirmaur and Chamba and one each in Una and Lahaul-Spiti districts. Three persons died after landslides hit a spot near the RTO office.

The state meteorological department has forecast heavy rainfall in the state over the next few days. Chamba, Dharamsala, Shimla, Solan and Nahan are likely to receive light rains accompanied by a thunderstorm.

All educational institutions in Shimla and Kullu will remain shut on Monday in wake of heavy rains.

The authorities have requested locals and tourists to stay away from water bodies, including rivers, to avoid any untoward incident.

Our journey from kolhapur by private A/c bus. Early morning at 6.30am we reached to chatrpati shivaji Maharaja Domestic airport, Bandra, Mumbai.

When we reached to airport a repreentative from Kesari tour report us and along with other guests we board into airport.The first city of tour was chandigarh. In Chandigarh lots of places are there to visit out of these we visited Chandigarh Gurudwara, rose garden, Rock garden, Sukhana lake etc.also we enjoyed various street Food items. In sukhana late we had a boating and we came to know that this lake is artificial and it is unbelievable. On second day we started our journey by A/c bus provided by Kesari tours along with one tour Manager and one guide. The journey from chandigarh to shimla is Small but it is very thrilling to travel from Kullu valley. Enroute we all enjoyed lunch in a very nice hotel and visited kullu shawl factory which is located near a Roja bridge.

When we reached shimala we realize the beauty of nature.It is the summer capital of British. in shimla the environment was very chill as the season is summer. in shimla we visited Mall road, Christ church cityscape of Shimla. Chandigarh-Shimla NH cave-in: HP issues advisory not to travel to Kasauli hills, Shimla

The Himachal Pradesh government, through Mohali and Panchkula administrations, has issued advisories asking people in Punjab and Haryana not to travel to Kasauli hills or Shimla as it may take some time before the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway-5 opens up for traffic.

While SDM, Solan said a D-Way is being created by the NHAI to connect both sides of the deep gorge created after a portion of the highway got swept away near Chakki Mor Tuesday night, the police department is requesting the commuters to strictly follow the alternative route that they have suggested.

Talking to The Indian Express , SDM, Solan, Gaurav Mahajan said, “We have contacted the Mohali and Panchkula administrations and through them, advisories have been issued requesting people not to travel to Kasauli and Shimla as the highway is closed due to multiple landslides in the area”.

He added, “Due to non-stop heavy rains in the area, where the highway gave in, a deep gorge has been created. It is difficult to repair that patch in such a short time and will take sometime before it is back in its original state. Till that time, a temporary arrangement is being created by the NHAI, which would be in the form of a ‘D’ so that some temporary movement of the traffic could be restored. The process will take another two to three days”.

The advisory issued by the SAS Nagar police reads, “Don’t travel towards Kasauli hills or Shimla as heavy landslides have taken place on the National Highway at Koti and it is closed for next 48 hours. Heavy landslides on route towards Kasauli via Masulhana.”

SP, Solan, Gaurav Singh said, “The condition of the part of highway which gave in is really bad and will take around two to three more days before the traffic is temporarily restored on it. It will also depend on other conditions such rainfall, landslides and the amount of falling debris”. He added, “The commuters are requested to strictly follow the alternative route provided by the Solan traffic police”.

He claimed that till now around 1,500 vehicles from Parwanoo have moved via alternative routes towards Solan and around 1,300 vehicles from Johar ji-Kamli road. Singh also said that the one way scheme of movement of traffic has helped them control the movement of vehicles on the alternative route.

Via Road: Shimla is easily accessible by road and makes for a great drive from nearby Delhi (340 kilometers) and Chandigarh (115 kilometers). Public buses run by Himachal Road Transport Corporation and private taxis ply frequently from nearby towns and cities.

Shimla draws tourists in big number as blistering heat sweeps plains

Tourist arrival in shimla has increased and the pleasant weather conditions are expected to bring more in june: director tourism department of himachal pradesh.

The pleasant weather conditions in the north Indian hill town of Himachal Pradesh's Shimla are drawing tourists across India. From January through May this year, 72 lakh tourists have arrived in the region, according to the state authorities.

The Director Tourism department of Himachal Pradesh, Amit Kashyap said that the tourist arrival has increased and the pleasant weather conditions are expected to bring more in the region in the month of June.

"During Pre Covid years we had an annual number of One core 70 Lakh tourists but during the Covid years it was first 32 Lakh and later 57 years. Last year we received 1 Crore 51 Lakh tourists," said Amit Kashyap,

"It shows that we had revived tourism in the state with aggressive marketing and other strategies. This year till may end we have received 72 lakh tourists and by June end we are expecting a huge footfall. In the recent weekend we had a good footfall," he added.

Amit Kashyap said that on weekends in Shimla, the occupancy rate in Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) hotels have 70 per cent of occupancy rate while HPTDC hotels in Manali has 100 per cent occupancy rate.

The tourists are very pleased to be in the hills as they get respite from scorching heat in the plains.

“I came here on Saturday, there are lots of crowd. The weather is good and it is a very nice experience,” said Shrestha Sahu, a tourist from Delhi.

Many of the tourists are shifting to the outskirts of Shimla instead of staying at the capital city Shimla.

"It is a very good place. I have done my studies from Shimla. We are staying in Kufri, there is so much rush here and tourists are shifting to the outskirts of Shimla," said Saloni from Punjab.

With mpox cases on the move after a surge in cases in Africa, travelers may fear risks to their health.

The disease – formerly monkeypox – has been on the rise in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other African countries. The first case outside Africa was detected in Sweden last week.

The type circulating there known as clade I is different from clade II, which has been in the U.S. after a global outbreak in 2022. A new variant, clade Ib, appears to be more transmissible and deadly. The World Health Organization has declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years.

But travelers don’t need to be too concerned yet.

“I think they ought to note this,” Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease expert and professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told USA TODAY. “I don’t know that they should be worried about it.”

What is mpox?

Mpox is endemic in parts of Central and West Africa, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“People usually get mpox through contact with the skin lesions or bodily fluids of infected wild animals in Africa (alive or dead) or humans, including respiratory secretions, or through contact with materials contaminated with the virus such as bedding clothing, and sex toys,” the health agency said on its website . The virus can also be contracted during sex or other close contact.

Headache, muscle aches, rash, swollen lymph nodes and fever are among the common symptoms.

At least a dozen African countries with outbreaks have seen more than 2,800 confirmed cases this year and over 500 deaths, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention . There are more than 17,000 suspected cases across the continent.

Should travelers be worried about mpox?

Schaffner recommended travelers going to African countries where the virus has been circulating get vaccinated before they go given the “highly communicable” nature of the new strain. The CDC has a Level 2 advisory in place for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries, warning travelers to “practice enhanced precautions.”

“I think if you’re traveling to other countries at the moment, there’s essentially no risk,” Schaffner added.

Thailand has detected an mpox case in a European man who arrived from Africa last week and is awaiting test results to determine the strain, a disease control official said Wednesday.

Though clade II cases in the U.S. have primarily been seen among men who have sex with men – though anyone can become infected – Schaffner said the clade I cases circulating in Africa appear to be “more generally distributed.”

How can travelers protect their health?

Travelers who got vaccinated for mpox in the wake of the 2022 outbreak don’t need a booster at the moment, according to Schaffner. “It looks as though your protection will still be viable, and so that's a very good thing,” he said.

The CDC also recommended travelers to the DRC or neighboring countries avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of mpox and wild animals such as rats, squirrels and monkeys – living or dead.

Visitors should also steer clear of meat or products derived from wild animals, including lotions, creams and powders, and avoid contaminated materials. Schaffner said hotel bedding and other linens are safe, provided they’re “appropriately laundered.”

Travelers who get a “new, unexplained skin rash” should immediately seek medical care.

Schaffner said infectious disease experts expect further spread of mpox to other countries and recommended travelers stay tuned for developments.

“The world is a very small place,” he said. “These viruses travel with us. They don't need passports.”

Looking for Information on L.G.B.T.Q. Travel to Florida? Don’t Ask Florida.

The state’s travel website recently removed pages dedicated to L.G.B.T.Q. travel. Some Floridians aren’t happy about it.

For years, L.G.B.T.Q. people planning a trip to Florida could turn to the official website for Visit Florida , the state’s tourism marketing organization, for resources on where to go, what to eat and where to stay. While there are other resources for queer travelers, the site offered information about L.G.B.T.Q.-owned businesses that visitors could patronize as well as activities “appealing to a gay community looking for a sense of belonging and acceptance,” a page on the site once read.

But sometime in the past few months, Visit Florida — a private-public, nonprofit partnership created by the Florida Legislature in 1996 — quietly took down pages with information for L.G.B.T.Q. travelers. Although no one has been able to pinpoint exactly when the pages were removed, NBC first reported on their removal on Aug. 19 and said it had happened sometime this summer. Some residents, activists and people in the local tourism industry said that erasing the pages sends the message that L.G.B.T.Q. travelers aren’t welcome in the state.

Visit Florida and the office of Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, did not respond to numerous requests for comment.

“There’s a reason these pages existed in the first place: to roll out the welcome mat and say, ‘Hey, you know what? Your family is going to be safe and comfortable here,’” Nadine Smith, the executive director of Equality Florida , an advocacy group for L.G.B.T.Q. people, said in a phone interview. “So if you take away that welcome mat, the only message that you can deliver is ‘We do not want you to feel safe and welcome you.’”

Ms. Smith is one of many who feel that the removal of the pages is a continuation of the hostile policies facing L.G.B.T.Q. people in the state in recent years. It comes two years after Mr. DeSantis signed what opponents called “Don’t Say Gay” legislation, limiting what teachers can say about gender and sexuality.

Like many destination marketing organizations across the country, Visit Florida receives state funding , which the governor signs off on. (Mr. DeSantis granted Visit Florida $80 million for its 2024-25 fiscal year, which the organization uses for marketing.)

“The thing that’s most interesting about this is that it was done quietly,” Ms. Smith said.

In April 2023, Ms. Smith’s organization , along with the L.G.B.T.Q.-focused Human Rights Campaign and the N.A.A.C.P. , warned travelers to reconsider going to Florida because they felt that Mr. DeSantis’s policies were hostile toward L.G.B.T.Q. people, immigrants and people of color.

Colin Lienhard, a gay architect and designer who lives in Miami, said that he had felt a shift in people’s openness toward gay people, even in liberal Miami, and so he wasn’t surprised by the removal of the pages. The effort to hide information that could be helpful feels like a continuation of what he feels has become normal in Florida: asking L.G.B.T.Q. people to be silent. “It’s another example of them trying to erase that we are here,” he said.

For years, L.G.B.T.Q. travelers have flocked to cities and towns like St. Petersburg, Key West and Sarasota, which have been welcoming to them.

Local tourism marketing organizations have often encouraged diverse travelers. For instance, in 2022, Visit Lauderdale, which promotes the Greater Fort Lauderdale area to the world, released a campaign called “Everyone Under the Sun.” At the time, the agency’s chief executive and president, Stacy Ritter, said the goal was to ensure that all visitors knew they were welcome.

“Our diversity is our strength, and we are proudly telling this story to the world,” she said in a statement announcing the campaign.

But local marketing organizations like Visit Lauderdale rely on Visit Florida, the state site, as a valuable entry point. Last week, as news of the removal of Visit Florida’s L.G.B.T.Q. pages spread, Ms. Ritter reiterated that Fort Lauderdale continued to value diversity.

“While Visit Florida removes its L.G.B.T.Q.+ page from its website, Visit Lauderdale values, respects and sees those from marginalized communities and commits to providing them a welcoming and inclusive experience,” she wrote on LinkedIn on Aug. 20.

When Rob Dougherty, the executive director for the Key West Business Guild , a nonprofit that promotes Key West to L.G.B.T.Q. travelers, first heard about the removal of the pages last week, he reached out to the leaders of Visit Florida because he hoped the removal had been a mistake or a glitch. After his questions went unanswered for days, he expressed his frustration on social media.

“The silence is troubling,” he wrote on the Gay Key West Facebook page. He reminded the followers of that page that his organization’s goals of supporting L.G.B.T.Q. people living in and visiting Key West had not changed, even if the state’s stance seemingly had. In a phone call, he said it felt important to say something about the removal.

“ I don’t want to sound reactionary,” he said, “but I feel like if we don’t respond, then are we allowing the next step? What will be erased next?”
