D-Day to the Rhine

Home > All Tours > D-Day Tours

Our D-Day to the Rhine Tour commemorates the Allied invasion of Normandy that led to victory in Europe in WWII. Stephen E. Ambrose first designed our D-Day tour itinerary in 1978 when he began his intense study of the D-Day invasion, the Normandy Campaign and western front in WWII. As part of his research, Ambrose travelled with countless veterans to find the sites where they trained in the United Kingdom and the battlefields where they made history in Europe. His extensive study of the European Theater of Operations led to his bestselling books on the subject, D-Day: June 6, 1944 , Citizen Soldiers and Band of Brothers , among others.

Ambrose’s research produced the unrivaled experience that we offer on our D-Day to the Rhine Tour. His expertise was directly handed down to the next generation of historians who have continued to document the battlefield memories of hundreds of WWII veteran soldiers and officers at the very places where they fought. Their vast canon of knowledge is what makes our D-Day tour so authentic. Your historian will share these personal stories and their WWII expertise with you at every stop.

You will also visit the Imperial War Museum, which houses authentic examples of World War II weaponry, tanks, and aircraft and an exhibit of WWI trench warfare. You will have free time to enjoy London in the evening.

Day 4 • Portsmouth

Depart London for Bletchley Park where you will visit the nerve center for intelligence used in the Allied War effort, code name Ultra. Here you will see the place where the Enigma machine is housed and where the cyphers and codes of several Axis countries were decrypted during the war.

This afternoon you will tour Southwick House, the advance command post of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force. In the months leading up to D-Day in 1944, the house became the headquarters of the main Allied commanders, including Naval Commander-In-Chief Admiral Ramsay, Allied Supreme Commander General Eisenhower, and the Army Commander-In-Chief General Montgomery.

Day 5-8 • Normandy

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will cross the English Channel by ferry, embarking for Normandy as the troops did in 1944.

During the several days you spend in Normandy, your visit will include the following sites, and maybe others:

  • Pegasus Bridge : Where the first shots were fired on D-Day
  • Brécourt Manor : The medieval family home where Lieutenant Dick Winters led the men of Easy Company to silence the German artillery firing at Utah Beach on D-Day

  • German Battery: A fine example of Hitler’s Atlantic Wall of defense

Day 9 • Normandy to the Netherlands

You will spend the morning in Normandy, and then travel to the Netherlands with an overnight stay in eastern France.

Day 10 • Netherlands: Arnhem

After breakfast, you will begin your study of Operation Market Garden, the early attempt by the Allied forces to strike directly for Berlin. Control of the bridges at Eindhoven, Nijmegen, and Arnhem was essential for the push into Germany. We drive Hell’s Highway where the 101st and 82nd Airborne broke through to connect with the British in Arnhem. You will visit Nijmegen to see the daring crossing of the Waal River by the 82nd Airborne.

From there we travel to Arnhem where again we cross the “Bridge Too Far.” Your historian will recount the desperate three days that the British 1st Airborne under General John Frost held it. You will end the day at the Airborne Museum at Oosterbeek.

Day 11 • The Ardennes

This is where Hitler put everything he had into his final counter-attack in the Ardennes that became the Battle of the Bulge. On December 16, 1944, Lt. Lyle Bouck was one of the first people to see the German columns coming. Your first stop will be in the Ardennes at Lanzereth, the town where Bouck and a platoon of 19 men held off a full-strength German SS Battalion under the infamous Joachim Peiper for an entire day. You will visit the American positions and hear their story, a breathtaking tale of heroism.

On December 17, 1944, the second day of the offensive, the Germans had several breakthroughs and many Americans surrendered near the town of Malmedy. Outside the town, Peiper’s SS lined up about 150 GIs and fired at them point-blank. Less than half escaped alive. You will view the site of the massacre and the Malmedy Massacre Memorial. From there, you will enjoy a scenic drive through the Ardennes Mountains en route to the evening’s lodging.

Day 12 • Luxembourg

Today, you will continue your study of the Battle of the Bulge. After breakfast, we drive to Bastogne where the Americans rallied and stopped the German attack. Here, you will view the route of the initial American retreat and the place where the 101st Airborne and elements of the 10th Armored Division held off fifteen German divisions for six days. You will visit key sites in and around this historic crossroads town. You will also drive by General McAuliffe’s HQ where he replied to German surrender demands with one word: “NUTS.” After your visit, it is a short ride to Luxembourg. This afternoon affords some relaxing free time in the center of this bustling but charming old-world city.

Then, you will visit nearby Hamm and the Luxembourg American Cemetery, the site of General George S. Patton’s grave. America’s foremost WWII field general rests here among his men.

Day 13 • Frankfurt, Germany

Today, you will then travel to the Siegfried Line to see remnants of the German communication trenches, pillboxes, and dragon’s teeth that American GIs fought so hard to take in late 1944. This evening you will enjoy a farewell dinner and discussion after an enriching campaign into history.

Overnight at a hotel near the Frankfurt International Airport (FRA).

Day 14 • Flight Home from Frankfurt

There will be one morning departure to the Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) to catch your flight home.

Post-tour Extension

Day 1 • nuremberg, germany.

You will continue your journey toward the Bavarian Alps, stopping first in the historic city of Nuremberg, where Hitler staged his infamous Nazi rallies and the International Tribunal conducted the Nuremberg Trials. After lunch in the picturesque market center dominated by the Frauenkirche, you will tour the Nazi Party Rally Grounds and visit the Nuremberg Trials Courtroom 600.

Day 2 • Munich, Germany

We continue south through Bavaria toward Munich, first stopping in Dachau, where you will visit the site of some of the most nefarious acts against humankind during the war. In total, over 200,000 prisoners from more than 30 countries were confined in Dachau: notably Jews, resistance fighters, clergymen, politicians, communists, writers, artists, and royalty. The second camp liberated by Anglo-American forces, Dachau was one of the first places where the West was exposed to Nazi brutality. After lunch in a traditional Munich restaurant, you will enjoy a city tour of Munich before checking into a hotel in the heart of Munich, your base for our final two days.

Day 3 • Munich

The day includes a city tour of Berchtesgaden and Obersalzberg where you will visit the Eagle’s Nest and the remains of the vast Nazi Party complex liberated by the Allies in May 1945. Eagle’s Nest was built as a 50th birthday present to Hitler from the Nazi Party. Perched at 6017 feet, the complex and road network leading to it were considered feats of engineering genius as they were completed in only 13 months in 1937-1938. For your final night, you will reflect on your journey and enjoy the camaraderie of a farewell dinner.

Day 4 • Flights Home

There will be one morning transfer to Munich Airport (MUC) to catch our flight home.

15 reviews for ' D-Day to the Rhine '

I was on the second tour August 1999. I hope to go again. Ron and Judy Drez hosted the tour and they really made it simple and enjoyable. It’s really worth doing

Bucket List CHECK OFF

Having fulfilled my #1 Bucket List item, I can truthfully say that this was the best trip I’ve ever taken, Jonathan Carroll, our historian and chief entertainer, along with David, our tour manager and Johan, our magic-man driver, made these days a memory that I will never forget. Thank you.

Bucket List CHECK

Normandy to the rhine.

This was a trip of a lifetime for me. Learned so much, saw so much. Stood on Utah and Omaha Beach which was important to me. I LOVED it!!

Wonderful journey

The DDay to the Rhine trip(June 2022) was our second trip with SAHT and hopefully not the last. Our historian was Chris Anderson and he is truly a walking encyclopedia! His passion for WW2 history is evident in every visit. He kindly made an unscheduled stop for me at Sugar Red sector of Utah Beach because he knew that was where my father had landed! Looking forward to another trip with SAHT! Cheryl and George Holt

Trip of a Lifetime

My wife and I enjoyed every minute of every day. Our historian, Chris Anderson, provided personal anecdotes from residents and veterans that helped make each site all the more interesting and moving. We had the honor of being at the American Cemetery at Omaha Beach for the 78th anniversary ceremony. It was amazing being there with some of the surviving veterans sharing the moment honoring them. Chris was masterful knowing his topic inside and out yet making it interesting for all regardless of how much knowledge one had going in. Sabine was the camp Mom, making sure everyone was happy and safe as well as keeping us all on schedule so we could see and do as much as possible. She even helped put my wife and I in contact with a friend who is a master clock builder as a side project in the midst of all her other responsibilities. Klaus, our driver, was friendly and added to the experience dining with him and learning from him as well. The lodgings and meals were very nice as well. We have already booked a follow up trip waitlist with the Pacific theater tour and are looking at several of their other offerings in the meantime. I cannot imagine a better tour experience, and we can’t wait to go again..

This is the bucket list trip that I have been waiting for and it was beyond my expectations. From walking on the Normandy beaches, and attending the D-Day ceremony and sitting in the audience was a special treat. There were so many outstanding sites that we visited. Our London tour guide Tim was great. Bletchley Park was so neat and how the code breakers overcame astronomical odds to break the German codes. Standing inside one of the bunkers overlooking the Pointe du Hoc waterfront brought home what terror the Germans there must have experienced seeing the armada of ships descending on them. Both the American and Germany cemeteries brought home the human element of the war. The Berchtesgarden extension was very worthwhile and touring Dachau brought the trip to an emotional climax. I highly recommend this trip. I will remember this trip for years to come and made many new friends along the way.

I really enjoyed it. I was on the second trip in August of 1999. I’d like to go again but this disease thing keeps me out this year. I am retired now and can see some changes that will make it better. Berchestgarden wasn’t available then. Can’t say when but I’m going again.

My son and I took this tour some yars ago and are still talking about it. The tour and it’s guide were fist class. I have been to Normandy since and it was more impressive having been with Ambrose before.

Overall, the tour was the best experience Ive had. I will remember it for the rest of my life. I took over 600 photos. I got to see where my dad was at and wondered what made him what he was.

Over the years, this has become our most popular tour and will grip you straight from the start to finish. You’ve seen all the films from The Longest Day , Saving Private Ryan and the award winning television series Band of Brothers . Now let Rifleman Tours take you to see where the action really took place and walk in the footsteps of those who liberated Europe.

The Normandy invasion was one of the largest undertakings in military history and it effectively signalled the beginning of the end of the Second World War . The logistics for this operation were unparalleled from the assembly of the largest and most powerful armada, to the landing of three airborne divisions on the five landing beaches.  Overlord , as it was codenamed, is quite simply a military feat to be marvelled at.

Day One: Depart from your chosen UK collection point and proceed to Dover or Folkestone for our channel crossing by ferry or Eurotunnel to Calais and then on to the city of Caen where we will book into our centrally located hotel . The rest of the evening is at your leisure when you can explore this vibrant and historic city. There’s a large choice of restaurants and bars on your doorstep as well as William the Conqueror’s castle to explore.

Day Two: We begin our tour of the British and Canadian sector by visiting Pegasus Bridge  which was taken by the Ox and Bucks in a stunning coup de main operation. Here we visit the Pegasus Bridge Museum (entrance fee included) and Café Gondree , the first house liberated in France, before moving on to Ranville War Cemetery  where we pay our respect at Lt Brotheridge’s grave. Brotheridge was the first allied soldier killed on D-Day .

A packed lunch is provided (included in the price)  and taken at  Arromanches  where the British established their  Mulberry harbour  and impressive remnants remain in the bay to this day. After lunch we visit the beaches of Sword, Juno and Gold and discuss the actions that took place as the allied troops came ashore and formed a bridgehead before moving inland. At Gold Beach we hear the story of Stanley Hollis  , the only VC winner of D-Day .

Normandy Tours

We will then move on to the stunning British Normandy Memorial , opened in  2021.  Overlooking Gold Beach , the site consists of 160 stone columns inscribed with the names of the 22,442 people who were killed on D-Day and at the Battle of Normandy , a bronze sculpture of three charging infantrymen and a wall featuring the names of those who were killed on D-Day itself.

Day Three : Today we travel into the American sector looking at the airborne drops of the 82nd and 101st Divisions . We stop at La Cambe , the German War Cemetery and visit the grave of Michael Wittmann , the panzer ace who is famous for his ambush of the 7th Armoured Division in the town of Villers-Bocage.

We’ll then head to  Sainte-Mère-Église . Here a company of the 82nd airborne dropped on to the market square in the early ours of June 6 and were cut down by the waiting Germans. One John Steele was snagged on the church steeple and a model of him is suspended there as a reminder of the event. At Sainte-Mère-Église we explore the town before partaking of a packed lunch (included in the price) .

D-Day Battlefield Tour

The afternoon sees us look at the exploits of ‘Easy Company’ made famous in the television series Band of Brothers . We visit their memorial and the site at Brécourt where they silenced four guns on the morning of the 6 th June before looking at the first of the American beaches, Utah .

We then travel along the coast to Omaha where we descend down to this sandy crescent-shaped beach via the Verville draw . draw. The beach became known as  ‘Bloody Omaha’ and as we move along the beach road to the bottom of the steep bluffs you can see how it received this name.

We finish this sector with a visit to the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer . This stunning cemetery contains three Medal of Honour winners and two of the Niland brothers; the film Saving Private Ryan was based on.

As we travel back to the hotel we visit the Longues-sur-Mer gun battery whose mighty guns are still in place and threatened the ships on the morning of 6 June.

Day Four: Today sees us leave Caen and make our journey back to the UK.

Some kind words and reviews from some of our clients

It’s barely a week since we returned home to the states from a wonderfully memorable trip, of which you and Malcolm were such a big part. I think that by now, Malcolm might have mentioned to you what I had revealed to him in the last few moments of our tour – I am a Private Tour Guide in New York. Of course I did not want to reveal that info prior to or during our tour with Malcolm, because I knew it could make a fellow guide just a wee bit uncomfortable about being judged. Malcolm was a masterful tour guide and mad our tour of the D-Day Beaches and the Normandy area so much more remarkable, revealing, but most importantly – moving. The best tour guides, have a real knack for relating stories that bring history alive and Malcolm has the passion and the interest in the subject that make the D-day experience with him something very special. …I wanted to thank you for being so accommodating at the last minute (twice)… Thanks for offering to put us up at your property and then eventually changing our private tour date that allowed us to catch a ride to Mont St. Michel. Also, your lunch box you prepared for our tour day was delicious – in particular the ham and cheese baguette, and the wonderful homemade apple cake dessert – loved it. Good job ! Malcolm, like me, has found later in life, what he is truly built to do – relate incredibly important history that changed the world (in a very positive way) and show where it all happened.
Came to France to do the Normandy tour. Learned more from Malcolm in two days than I did in ten years at school. The accommodation was excellent and we recommend the old railway cycling track as an outdoor activity. We were privileged to avail of Alison’s cooking – and it is to be highly recommended. Both Alison and Malcolm were the perfect hosts and we can’t forget little Archie & Hendley (the dog and cat!).
Thank you so much for the excellent 2 day tour. It was a great experience. I had expected to see bunkers, guns, tanks, and so forth, as we did. But I had no idea that we would be treated to the many anecdotes and stories you tell so well, like that of the extraordinary bravery and skill of the glider pilots that made it possible to seize Pegasus Bridge. Or the stories of John Steele at Sainte-Mere-Eglise, of Lt. Richard Winters and Easy Company at Brecourt, of Lt. Col. Robert Cole, and others. Your extensive knowledge of the heroic exploits of the men that made D-Day a success is remarkable. That fund of knowledge combined with your passion to tell their stories made for extraordinary experience for Matt and for me, an experience that surpassed even our greatest expectations. So thank you. And a hearty thank you to Alison too for the delightful lunches. I feel very fortunate to have had you as a guide and would recommend you to anyone who wants to understand the events of D-Day.
Thank you for such an incredible day. This was the part of our trip that we were looking forward to the most, and it turned out to be the absolute highlight of our entire week. We truly felt like we were in a graduate level history course going to the various battlefield sights, churches, monuments, and beach landing sites with you. Having the opportunity to learn more about our great-uncle’s experience once he was dropped behind enemy lines was truly incredible, and it was absolutely awe-inspiring to visit the American cemetery where he is buried. The personal touch that you and Alison, with her fantastic picnic lunch, added to our day was so unique. We’re looking forward to sharing our experience with the rest of our family, especially our grandfather.
In Sept. 2014 my husband and I spent three wonderful days staying with the Cloughs and touring the Normandy Battlefields. The cottage, the meals, the extensive tour – all were wonderful ! Malcolm has such an extensive knowledge of the war and presents it in a professional, knowledgable, entertaining manner. We saw so many sites that wouldn’t be included on shorter tours. This was a Christmas gift to my husband and I thought I might be bored touring so many war sites, this was never the case. Malcolm’s wife, Alison, provided delicious breakfasts every morning, lovely lunches to be eaten while on the tour, and grand dinners. We ate in their dining room and they made us feel like old friends rather than guests. The cottage we had was spotless and decorated with care, plus, after Malcolm picked us up at the airport Alison had a basket with bread, cheese and other treats waiting for us. We have traveled to many places and this tour and the wonderful accommodations/meals are at the top of our list of 5-Star experiences.
What a wonderful day we had with you! Your knowledge was incredible and your enthusiasm was contagious. And your willingness to go at our pace displayed a level of customer service from which others could well learn. We all agreed that the day was extremely informative and enjoyable, and that we would gladly do it again with you as our guide. As Glenna (aka Grandma) said yesterday as we were re-living our day with you, “anyone who is doing a D-Day tour needs to use Malcolm”. I don’t think there is any higher praise than from an 89-yr old woman whose husband served in the war and who lived it herself. Thanks you so very much for you knowledge, enthusiasm and kindness. If you and your wife ever come to the States and decide to pass through St. Louis, Missouri, we would be happy to host you. Best wishes in your endeavors and thanks again!
Although we were pretty ignorant about the D-Day Invasion and had no personal connection to that part of WW2, it was a subject that interested us. So we did a detour from Cape Town, South Africa, via Normandy en route to see our family. We spent three nights with Alison and Malcolm Clough in their lovely home in the country and Malcolm was our personal guide for 2 full days. Malcolm’s incredible knowledge of the Invasion and his passion for the subject brought history alive for us. We stood at inland battle sites, had the drama of capturing bridges played out, visited all five beaches heard amazing stories of heroes – some of whom survived and some of whom sadly died in active service during the Invasion. At the end of each day we visited a war cemetery which was emotional and very sobering. Our days were long but relaxed and totally absorbing. Alison provided a delicious picnic each day and Malcolm always found the perfect place to enjoy it. We found this so much nicer that sitting in a restaurant and ‘wasting time’. There was so much to hear and see. I “found” Malcolm on the website and we reckon we hit Number One. Thank you Malcolm for imparting your knowledge in such a relaxed manner and so patiently. We were enthralled and give you a 5 Star rating. Alison, thank for our lovely studio accommodation, all the goodies in the fridge and your delicious meals. We loved it all and felt very much at home with you.
Of all the things we saw and did during our adventures, two stand out. One was kayaking in the Shetlands and the other was the time we spent with you in Normandy. I looked forward to every day we were in your care, and you two and Peter did a marvelous job. The accommodations were first class, the food was great, and most of all your companionship was the key to a truly wonderful experience. Such good care you took with us to insure we had a good time. Malcolm meeting us at the ferry. Alison’s cooking. Peter being Peter. What fun we had! I couldn’t help but feel, as I looked at the other tour groups being herded along, that no one was getting the quality experience that we were having. Malcolm and Peter’s knowledge of the events and locations was superb (I like to think I know a little about them myself), and brought to life so vividly with their narrative and stories that it stirred up emotions and feelings that surprised me with their intensity. And how many of those other people got to retire to such a nice bit of France, and have dinner and conversation with their hosts in their home at the end of the day, and even get to see their wedding pictures? You made us feel special, but I suppose you make everyone that crosses your threshold feel that way. To get to walk along the beaches, stand on the bluffs, walk through the shell craters and look down from the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc! I will never forget my moments at the American Cemetery. We thank you so much!
“My wife and I have been stationed in Europe with the United States Army for the past three years, and we recently took a vacation to visit Paris and the Normandy Coast. We planned for a single day to visit Normandy and scheduled a tour with D-Day Tours of Normandy, which is owned and operated by Malcolm Clough. Malcolm was waiting for us at the train station and immediately after showing us to his SUV, the tour began. He was more than willing to modify our trip based on our timeline and interests, and his extreme knowledge and personal excitement regarding all aspects of the D-Day invasion made the trip so much more fulfilling for my wife and I. Malcolm was able to take us to every major site on each of the battlefields, to include the American cemetery, all the while supplementing the experience with his extensive historical knowledge. The tour lasted the entire day and included a lunch packed and prepared by his wife Alison, who operates their catering and B&B business. I highly recommend Malcolm and his tours, he was extremely helpful and willing to work with us based on our schedule. He was a fantastic guide, and the only person I would hire to take my family and friends to the D-Day battlefields.”
‘Thanks so much for the fantastic day. Your tour of the D-Day sights was the highlight of trip for my aunt and I. Your narrative at Omaha beach made D-Day tangible for me. The tour you gave us of the American cemetery was poignant. The visit to Pont du Hoc was spectacular. We truly appreciate the bespoke approach you took with us- accommodating all of our requests, adjusting on the fly, and giving us a full day that we will always remember and treasure’… Kate Downes, Phoenix, Arizona, USA. “Our tour … had a definite impact on each of us. We appreciated your style, and the personal nature of the tour. I think when you told us that we were taking the same steps as the soldiers, it really made us think. Also, that the entire world might be a very different place if not for the brave soldiers on D-Day. …Thanks again, you were an important part of our holiday this year”
Stephanie and I are finally back from our French trip and write to express our profound appreciation for your company/services last week. Not only did you enlighten us as to the events on the D Day beaches and beyond, but you made us feel we were touring with a kindred spirit. We have much more of an understanding for the role Steph’s father played in the war, which whilst emotional, especially for Steph, only increases our pride of him – especially having seen the exact places where he fought and some of his friends fell. It was frighteningly easy to picture him defending the troops with his machine gun in the various woods, fields and ridges on our trip. This was his story. Having now visited Normandy and the battlegrounds, I can understand why he chose not to tell it. But it was important to Steph and I that it was told, and that his children and grandchildren know what he did. You bought that story to life for us with both facts and understanding, and we thank you. … It looked like it was a great deal of work for you, but rest assured every second of it was absorbed by us with great gratitude….
Malcolm and Alison provide an unparalleled experience for a visit to the beaches. His depth of knowledge is extremely impressive. Alison’s culinary skills will cause you to want to return solely for her delicacies. If a competitor offered a free guiding service I would turn them down, and still pay for another visit with Malcolm and Alison.
I’ve been on a number of battlefield tours over the years but none have been as informative or as interesting as yours. It was truly a memorable day and the highlight of my holiday. Your flexibility in accommodating the changing itinerary meant I came away feeling as though I had seen the key sites. You really made the whole experience come alive with your stories and expert knowledge.

No better place to die.

Captain Dale Adam Dye Jr., USMC (Ret.) (born October 8, 1944) is an American actor, technical advisor, radio personality and writer. A decorated Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, Dye has also offered his expertise to television, such as the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers and The Pacific , and video games, including the Medal of Honor

His next film “No better place to die” tells of the fierce battle of La Fiere.

The battle at La Fiere was an epic engagement for the 82nd Airborne in Normandy. La Fiere takes its importance from being a crossing for the Merderet River near St. Mere Eglise. As the Merderet River was a significant obstacle in the invasion, securing the river crossings was a major objective of the 82nd Airborne on D-Day in order to anchor the right flank of the invasion.

About The Tour

DAY 1: Take the high-speed Eurostar train from London to Paris where you can either spend the day at your leisure or, for a supplement, take a private guided tour of Paris. We can organise your hotel in Paris. Your guide will collect you at 07:30 on DAY 2 for your tour to Normandy .

D-Day, great wines, William the Conqueror, all are synonymous with Normandy, and on this magnificent tour of this delightful region of France you will sample a little of all of these things. Your tour will take you past the sites of the major battles with their remarkable history of the most crucial battle the world has ever known, the Battle of Normandy .

Travel through the stunning Normandy countryside to Ranville, a small unassuming place, where the famous Pegasus Bridge is situated and where many British soldiers lost their lives in a successful attempt to take the bridge.

Then on to Longues, the site of the only German coastal battery to have kept its guns, and then to Arromanches where Mulberry Harbour, 'Port Winston', protected the landings of the vast numbers of men and vehicles involved in the invasion. Also visit Bayeux with its perfectly preserved mediaeval ensemble, magnificent cathedral and world-renowned tapestry.

Omaha beach is a beautiful four mile stretch of sand, which denies the ferocity of the fighting that befell it on June 6th 1944. The Pointe du Hoc cliffs overlooking Omaha beach are still deeply pitted with German bunkers and shell holes and the coast line is dotted with shrapnel. Close by is the largest of the wartime cemeteries, the Normandy American cemetery, featured in the opening scenes of Saving Private Ryan, where so many allies are laid to rest.

After your tour the guide will take you back to Paris Gare du Nord where you will return to London by Eurostar.

About myself ” Made in Texas, born in Normandy ! “

Being an American/French citizen & having lived both in the States and France gave me a dual culture philosophy with French expertise but also American “know-how” and friendliness. Also a “plus”, having no accent in either language makes it easier for American clients to understand me.

After working briefly for CNN during the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, I knew that I wanted to share my passion on the subject of WWII and became a guide, specialized in the Battle of Normandy working first for Battlebus, a leading tour company in the area at the time. I fell for the beauty of Normandy, and decided to stay.

In 2010 I created my own company “AMERICAN-DDAY-TOURS” and I now live 8 miles from Omaha Beach. Over the years I have met veterans and on my tours, will tell you about their experiences but also the personal family stories told by my grand-parents who lived in Normandy under the occupation, D-Day and the days following the liberation.

  • United Kingdom

Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva's crucial 74-run knock provided much-needed stability to his team, struggling at 113-7, as they reached 178 for eight at tea on Day 1 of the first Test against England on Wednesday.

De Silva shared a vital eighth-wicket stand of 63 with test debutant Milan Rathnayake. They managed to lift Sri Lanka after a shaky start but lost three wickets in the second session, including Kamindu Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya.

With eight boundaries in his 84-ball stint, De Silva marked his 14th test half-century, contributing significantly before falling to leg slip off Shoaib Bashir's delivery. England, riding high after a series sweep against the West Indies, was led by substitute captain Ollie Pope in place of the injured Ben Stokes.

Marketa Vondrousova, who won Wimbledon in 2023 , had an operation on her left shoulder, she wrote in a social media post on Wednesday.

“I’ve been struggling with shoulder pain for a few months now and there was no other option but to go for surgery,” Vondrousova wrote, along with a photo of her in a hospital bed. “Everything went well and I’ll start rehab soon.”

The 25-year-old left-hander from the Czech Republic hasn’t competed anywhere since a first-round exit at the All England Club on July 2. Vondrousova was eliminated 6-4, 6-2 by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro at Centre Court, becoming the first women’s champion since 1994 to lose her opening match the next year at Wimbledon.

The title there last year made Vondrousova the first unseeded female champion at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament.

Vondrousova withdrew from the Paris Olympics and the U.S. Open , which begins in New York on Monday.
