Nice outdoor related products at even nicer prices. Travel Country Outlet has discounted clothes, shoes, and other random outdoor products. Speaking of random, the store is in a really random warehouse district in Longwood. The staff that helped me over the phone before I came wasn't very helpful in the store either but I am okay with that because of the reasonable prices here. If you want service, go to the main Travel Country store. Don't forget to make your way into the back of the store for good deals too! They even have a generous return policy with your receipt but I didn't need it because I love the shoes that I bought here recently.

Grayland (sp?) worked with Alyssa from the main store to help me find the right shoe for my needs and budget. They were both awesomely helpful. This was my first visit to the outlet and I couldn't have been happier. It's well-organized, clean and has a good selection considering it's an outlet. Super-good experience!

Who doesn't love a good deal?! Travel Country has a retail store located in Altamonte. The outlet has similar merchandise and advertise up to 70% off the retail value. I find that on average most items are about 20-40% off. A lot of great brand name winter gear from Patagonia, North Face, Marmot, Columbia, etc. Even though Floridians don't need a lot of winter gear if you're planning a ski trip or up north I find this place to be a great value and find. I've purchased several items such as a winter coat, jackets, and sweaters and very satisfied with my purchase. The location is bit hidden in a plaza but it's is next to Feeding Children Everywhere. When you walk in you will see racks of men's and women's clothing and accessories. There is also a back room that you can go in that has tons of jackets and sweaters to go through. There's a small selection of footwear if you're looking for some hiking shoes. Fitting rooms are available to try on clothes. They only accept credit card, no cash. The staff doesn't interact with you much. This is a place you go to browse through the racks in search of finding something you like, it's an outlet. Happy shopping!

I totally found the Travel Country Outlet Store by accident (it's in the same plaza as Feeding Children Everywhere). At first glance I didn't even know it was Travel Country, but the windows advertising brands like Patagonia and North Face caught my eye. The outlet has a front room with racks of clothes, backpack, hats, etc. The big surprise for me was the warehouse in the back full of jackets. So many jackets... it was awesome. Of course, being a Floridian with no major travel plans all I could justify buying was hat, but I will absolutely be back here the next time I'm headed anywhere with winter weather. Prices seemed very good based on my knowledge of the brands for sale but like any outlet I'd probably want to compare prices online just to double-check before making any big purchases. The hat I bought was about 30% off retail and pretty close to online prices.

Went here to see available paddle boards for sale and was happy to get a great deal on exactly what I was looking for. Additionally, customer service was awesome. Marcus was super friendly and helpful from product selection to making sure we had everything we needed to get our paddle board home.

Russia's Nuclear Deterrent Command Center Imperiled by Winter Freeze—Report

A Russian nuclear deterrent command center in Moscow has been imperiled by power outages that have impacted more than one-quarter of the region's cities amid freezing temperatures, a Russian Telegram channel has reported.

The VChK-OGPU outlet, which purports to have inside information from Russian security forces, reported that the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings—part of the Russian Space Forces, a branch of the country's Aerospace Forces—near Solnechnogorsk in Moscow is without power.

It serves as the space forces early warning network against potential ballistic missile attacks.

The development comes as Russians are reported to be suffering from power outages in their homes in the Moscow region caused by technical issues at plants amid subzero temperatures.

On January 4, a heating main burst at the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant in the town of Podolsk, which is about 30 miles south of central Moscow. Since then, tens of thousands of Russians are reported to have no heating in their homes.

Affected areas include the cities of Khimki, Balashikha, Lobnya, Lyubertsy, Podolsk, Chekhov and Naro-Fominsk, a map published by a Russian Telegram channel and shared on other social media sites shows.

Other Russian media outlets reported that in Moscow, residents of Balashikha, Elektrostal, Solnechnogorsk, Dmitrov, Domodedovo, Troitsk, Taldom, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Krasnogorsk, Pushkino, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Losino-Petrovsky and Selyatino are also without power.

The Telegram channel said that at the 820th Main Center for Missile Attack Warnings, "the crew...is on duty around the clock."

"It is here that the decision on a retaliatory nuclear strike is executed," the channel said.

Newsweek could not independently verify the report and has reached out to the Russian Defense Ministry by email for comment.

Power outages have also been reported in Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, in the country's western Voronezh region, in the southwest city of Volgograd, and in Rostov, which borders Ukraine, a country that Russia has been at war with since February 24, 2022.

On Sunday, two shopping malls in St. Petersburg were forced to close because of problems with light and heating, reported local news outlet 78.ru. Hundreds of other homes in the city have had no electricity, water or heating for days amid temperatures of -25 C (-13 F).

Russian authorities have also been forced to compensate passengers of a train that ran from Samara to St. Petersburg (a 20-hour journey) without heating during -30 C (-22 F) temperatures. Videos circulating on social media showed carriage windows frozen over. A passenger also said the toilet didn't work during the trip because of frozen pipes.

Bamboo bats, coral reefs and the country’s only village – discovering the wild side of Singapore

It’s only 3pm and I’ve already hiked a boardwalk suspended over a coral reef, spotted numerous rare butterfly species and admired deserted beaches from an observation tower in a wildlife-filled wetlands. But I’m not in Borneo or Brazil – I’m in Singapore .

Pulau Ubin was always on my hit list, but old favourites on Singapore ’s mainland kept getting in the way – places like the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, where I’ve spent entire days spotting crocodiles and herons from hides. Not that I’m making excuses – after all, it takes just 15 minutes to reach the island of Pulau Ubin via the 12-person boats that splutter out of Singapore ’s Changi Point Ferry Terminal. Yet, despite its proximity, Pulau Ubin is a world away from mainland Singapore.

Many of the current 40 or so residents once worked in its quarries – the island’s granite was once in huge demand and was used to build much of Singapore’s public housing. When the quarries ceased operations in the 1990s, the few workers who stayed became fishermen and small business owners, like the lady running the bicycle hire shop next to Pulau Ubin’s pier, where I find Singapore’s last remaining kampong (village). There are no hotels here, although visitors can stay at its campsites.

Motorised vehicles are a rarity on Pulau Ubin; it’s a magnet for cyclists and hikers. I saddle up and join a trail starting near an old wayang (Chinese opera) stage and a Chinese temple – a reminder that many quarry workers were Chinese immigrants.

Shanghai city guide: Where to stay, eat, drink and shop in China’s gleaming metropolis

The former industrial sites are now lush nature reserves. On the island’s southern side, I find Pekan Quarry, now a lake popular with kingfishers and herons – I spot them perching on nesting platforms. At nearby Butterfly Hill, a football field-sized former chunk of wasteland, I pass clouds of butterflies drawn to flora planted to attract rare species, such as the Mangrove Tree Nymph.

I refuel at the trailside Ah Ma drinks stand, quenching my thirst with fresh coconut juice sold by an elderly lady wielding a fearsome machete. This is Madam Ong, whose parents once farmed prawns. When business slowed, she swapped seafood for snacks and built her drinks stand using timber from abandoned houses.

The island feels truly wild – not just because of signs warning of falling durians, but because of the wildlife. At Chek Jawa Wetlands, six ecosystems – including a seagrass lagoon and coastal forest – host 500 species, ranging from flying foxes to bamboo bats. Get lucky (I sadly don’t) and you’ll spot dugongs carving through the waters separating Pulau Ubin from Malaysia .

My attempt to complete the boardwalk extending over the nearby coral reef is thwarted by 20 macaques sprawled across my pathway, in no hurry to leave. After 10 minutes of plotting possible routes in the way a military general might plan crossings of a minefield, I abandon the mission and head to the wetlands’ observation tower another way. From its summit, high above the tree canopy, I take in the Malaysian coastline and the thick forests that now cover Pulau Ubin.

The next day, I head to another Singaporean island paradise: Lazarus, a 20-minute boat ride from Singapore’s Marina South Pier. Until recently most visitors were day trippers, although in 2023 five tiny houses appeared. Each one-bedroom property, which relies largely on solar energy, has a kitchenette, double bed and shower. They’re brilliant bases for explorations of Lazarus. On forays around its perimeter, I find mangrove forests filled with frogs whose croaks lull me to sleep at night and a deserted palm-fringed beach. The water teems with fish; leopard rays, barramundi and longfin groupers (famous for their leopard-like colouring) all thrive here.

I pick up supplies at Lazarus’s only shop, tucked inside a shipping container. I’m lucky – it’s a Monday and I learn it won’t open again until Friday, which is why I’d advise visitors to stock up on the mainland. I’d then do as I did and walk across the causeway connecting Lazarus to similarly-sized St John’s island, which has several pretty beaches and picnic areas, along with a small water sports centre from which kayaks and SUPs can be hired.

While Lazarus was once a penal colony, St John’s was a quarantine centre for Singapore-bound immigrants in the late 1800s. Both have been largely reclaimed by nature – the few permanent structures include the Tiny Houses, some glamping tents on Lazarus’s beach and dormitory accommodation for schools and scouts on St John’s. Visitors are scarce; once the last boat to the mainland departs, there’s a sense I’ve got the island to myself. At times I feel like Indiana Jones . One afternoon, I discover an abandoned building at the end of an overgrown footpath. It resembles something from a Resident Evil video game – a rusting skeleton of a structure covered with tendrils of greenery, close to being reclaimed by the forest.

Lazarus is also connected to Kias Island, an even smaller chunk of land, by a causeway. It takes 20 minutes to walk around the perimeter of Kias, where the only structure is something resembling an abandoned substation. Kias becomes my favourite place to see monitor lizards, which I spot scrambling across its rocky shoreline and diving into the ocean. At night, I take a thermos of tea to its northern tip. It’s the closest bit to mainland Singapore, and across the water, Marina Bay Sands’ casts its neon glow. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll always love every inch of Singapore but for a walk on the wild side, you can’t beat its islands – rogue durians and all.

Sights of Elektrostal: the history of the city, what to see, photos and reviews

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

Elektrostal is a fairly large industrial city, which is located near the Vokhonka River and almost 40-50 km from the eastern part of Moscow. There are a lot of powerful factories here, where many residents of Elektrostal work. They are perfectly combined with the most beautiful green boulevards, streets and parks, bright lawns and flower beds that adorn almost the entire town. It is picturesque due to amazing reservoirs and forests. It is worth learning more about the main attractions of Elektrostal, photos of which are in the article.

sights g elektrostal

The city was founded in 1916 thanks to the construction of a metallurgical plant. Previously, this place was the natural boundary of Calm. To start construction, the labor of local peasants was used. In the middle of 1925 herebuilt the first railway line that connected Elektrostal with Moscow. After the onset of 1938, the village turned into a separate city.

It is noteworthy that during the Great Patriotic War, the Electrostal plants produced ammunition that was needed for victory. In particular, it is worth noting the production of the legendary Katyushas.

A new stage for the factories of the city began after the invention of atomic weapons. The local plant was on the list of the main production facilities of the nuclear industry. This led to the fact that in 1954 the production of fuel was launched, which was used for the operation of nuclear power plants.

Image

In 1963, the cultural center "October" was built, and this was done by the masters of the Novo-Kramatorsky plant, named after Stalin. It featured a spacious auditorium that could seat more than 850 people, as well as a unique revolving stage for actors to change scenery in seconds.

At different times, eminent creative groups performed in this cultural center, as well as the Beryozka ensemble, famous at that time. It is noteworthy that even in our time the cultural center is actively functioning, and the square in front of it is considered the most beautiful place in Elektrostal with fountains operating in the summer. In mid-2013, it received the status of a city of labor and military glory.

There are many numerous monuments in the city that tell about the history of this amazing place: a monument to Nikolai Vtorov -the founder of the famous plant "Elektrostal" near the House of Culture, a monument to Tevosyan - the chief engineer, monuments to M. Gorky and K. Marx, a sculpture "Steelworker", a monument to Korneev - Hero of the Soviet Union, as well as a memorial and a monument to soldiers who died in Afghanistan and on North Caucasus.

This is a fairly large and old factory in the city that specializes in the production of fuel for local gas stations. The plant is part of the structure of the company FC "TVEL" of the state corporation "Rosatom". The General Director of the enterprise is O. L. Sedelnikov.

This plant produces nuclear fuel, which is used by many nuclear power plants, transport power plants and research reactors, not only in Russia, but also in other European countries. The company has quality certificates OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001.

The museum of the plant presents its history, shows old photographs of the streets of the city, there are achievements of workers, as well as photos of significant people, there are many of the most interesting models produced at the machine-building plant. It also stores presentations showing the principles of the enterprise.

This temple - a landmark of Elektrostal - is a single-dome centric church, which is made in the style of Byzantine times. It was erected in the 20th century, in the immediate vicinity of St. Andrew's Church. The temple was designed by T. V. Trubnikov and V. A. Drozdov, according to the developments of which the iconostasis and interior were exactly designed.

The church plays the role of a baptismal church and belongs to the Moscow diocese. The main shrines of the church are the most ancient and valuable icons of Nikandor Gorodnoyezersky and the Great Martyr Panteleimon. In addition, particles of the relics of saints are kept here. Divine services are held in the temple only during religious holidays.

the main attractions of the electric steel

The local park - a landmark of Elektrostal is an ideal place where everyone can stay alone with nature, ride numerous attractions, and also spend time playing slot machines. The park is especially popular in the summer - it is full of families, youth companies and couples in love.

Especially for the summer in 2013, the park was re-planned, which made it possible to accommodate more modern entertainment and interesting playgrounds for young visitors. Swimmers will love the dragon and swans, and trampolines have been installed for more active children.

It is noteworthy that the prices in the local park are quite affordable: the cost of a ticket for various attractions ranges from 30-100 rubles. Today it is called "Wonder Park", and it is divided into a quieter "Quiet Alley" and "Entertainment Alley", where there is an inexpensive cafe, a summer stage, and also quite a lot ofattractions.

sights of electrostal

This cinema is very popular, so it can be called a landmark of Elektrostal. It is located in the shopping center "Elgrad" and consists of 5 spacious halls that can accommodate more than 800 people. To show 2D and 3D films, only modern equipment is used: Dolby Digital Surround EX and MasterImage acoustics, as well as huge screens with a special coating. In all cinema halls, very comfortable conditions for visitors were created: climate control and soft chairs.

In the foyer of the Cinema Gallery there is a play area, a fairly spacious cafe, fast food establishments (Suneki, Tashir-pizza, Rostiks, Kebab-tun, etc.) and popcorn- bar. This is an attractive local leisure center, where the residents of Elektrostal are shown all the latest cinema.

This is a whole complex where you can spend your free time pleasantly and profitably. In addition to the playgrounds, which are fully equipped for playing laser tag and paintball, guests are invited to visit a local cafe where delicious home-cooked dishes are prepared, a banquet menu, karaoke, as well as a relaxing sauna with a warm font.

What do tourists who have visited the city say? It is not tourist, but industrial. Attractions are quite specific, but overall interesting. Tourists were pleased with low prices.

Looking at the photo of the sights of the city of Elektrostal, you may want to go there and spendunforgettable weekend.
