Texas longhorns baseball still projected to make ncaa regionals, share this article.

D1Baseball came out with its updated NCAA baseball tournament projections Wednesday. The Texas Longhorns baseball team is projected a No. 3 seed in a regional taking place in College Station with Texas A&M as the No. 1 seed.

Louisiana would be the No. 2 seed in the region, while North Dakota State would be the No. 4 seed. Texas was listed as the second-to-last team in the tournament field, just ahead of Louisiana Tech, Xavier, TCU, Creighton and Ole Miss.

Texas has a conference series against No. 18 Oklahoma this weekend in Norman, which provides the Longhorns with an opportunity to bolster their resume heading into the home stretch of the regular season. Oklahoma was projected to host a regional in the updated brackets.

It has not been the season that Texas (25-17, 11-7 Big 12) has hoped for, but they took two of three against TCU last weekend and followed it up with a nonconference victory against UT Arlington on Tuesday . After playing Oklahoma, the Longhorns have series with Oklahoma State and UCF who were both in the projected field. It is fair to say the final verdict on Texas’ season is still far off.

Texas high school baseball teams make UIL history for longest game played

Pitch count and pitch timers didn’t seem to be a concern for two West Texas high school baseball teams that made history this past weekend.

Midland High School and Odessa High School played a 23-inning baseball game that started Friday and resumed on Saturday afternoon.

Midland defeated Odessa 4-3. 

Longest game in Texas high school history

According to ESPN , Midland and Odessa high schools now hold the record for the longest game in Texas high school history. The previous UIL record was 22 innings.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations , the two schools tied for the third-longest high school baseball game and were two innings shy of the national record for the longest American high school baseball game of all time.

Texas baseball game starts Friday, ends Saturday

According to KMID sports director Kayler Smith , the game started at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Odessa. After four hours of gameplay, the game was postponed around 8:30 p.m. due to darkness, with Midland leading 3-2 in the top of the 14th inning.

The following day, Midland had a chance to end the game as soon as it resumed at 3 p.m., but Odessa had a tying run at the bottom of the inning, and the game continued. Midland took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 23rd off a sacrifice RBI groundout by Wyatt Krueger , and Midland pitcher Jake Nava forced Oddessa into a groundout to end the game.

The longest high school baseball game played was in Japan.

In 2014, two high school Japanese teams took four days to complete a game that took 50 innings. According to USA TODAY Sports , Chukyo High School beat Miura Gakuen High School in the longest game in National High School Rubber Baseball Tournament history, winning 3-0 in the 50th inning after four days and 49 scoreless innings. The tournament is played with a rubber ball called a nanshiki , which is lighter than a regular baseball.

The Aggies are set for a midweek showdown against Houston at Blue Bell Park.

Texas A&M's top-ranked baseball team returns to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park for a five-game homestand, starting with a Tuesday night matchup against Houston (20-20).

The Aggies (35-5) have won 15 of their last 17 games, boasting their best 40-game start since 2015.

The Aggies cemented their No. 1 ranking after a 3-1 week, including a series win against No. 12 Alabama. They also set a program record by scoring 37 runs in an SEC series. However, Houston has won the last four meetings at Olsen Field, with Texas A&M's last home win against the Cougars coming in 2008.

Texas A&M's pitching staff, led by new pitching coach Max Weiner, has shown remarkable improvement this season, reducing its ERA by over two runs. The Aggies lead the nation with eight shutouts and are among the top teams in strikeouts per nine innings (11.3). Freshman right-hander Brett Antolick will make his first career start on Tuesday.

Offensively, the Aggies rank among the best in the country, with a powerful lineup that includes Gavin Grahovac, Jace LaViolette, and Braden Montgomery. The team ranks third nationally in walks (271), fourth in home runs (86), and fifth in slugging percentage (.582).

Montgomery is second nationally in RBIs (67), while LaViolette leads the SEC in runs scored (62). Grahovac, named SEC Freshman of the Week, has recorded 49 RBIs.

With a strong offense and improved pitching, the Aggies are eager to break their home losing streak against Houston. This Tuesday night game offers a chance to maintain their top ranking and continue their winning momentum.

The Kentucky – Tennessee series lived up to all the hype and more. All three games from that series were entertaining and showed that both teams were the real deal.

Texas A&M traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama and the Aggies continued their stretch of winning. They will take on Charlie Condon and the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend. And of course, LSU finally got back on track in SEC play, taking its first conference series win on the road against Missouri thanks to a big run-rule win in Game 1 and another victory in a decisive Game 3.

Here’s how our full SEC power rankings look after Week 10.

14 Auburn (20-20, 2-16 SEC)

Auburn continues their downhill slide as they played Mississippi State last weekend and were swept by the Bulldogs. Now, Auburn will take a trip to Baton Rouge to take on LSU in a matchup of two teams who are trying to win their way into the conference tournament.

13 Missouri (19-23, 6-12 SEC)

Missouri played host to the LSU Tigers last weekend and lost the series 2-1. It was LSU’s first conference series win of the season and now Missouri runs the risk of not making the conference tournament at the end of the year. Missouri will play Tennessee this weekend and the Vols just took Game 1 10-1.

12 LSU (26-16, 5-13 SEC)

LSU finally won its first conference series of the season as it took a trip to Missouri and took two out of three games from the Missouri Tigers. This weekend, LSU will host Auburn with hopes to win another conference series as they try to win their way into the SEC tournament.

11 Ole Miss (22-19, 6-13 SEC)

Ole Miss lost two out of three to Georgia last weekend to drop to 6-12 in conference play on the season. They now play host to Alabama and the Tide just took game one from the Rebels via a 12-0 run-rule victory.

10 Florida (21-19, 8-10 SEC)

The Gators lost two out of three to Vanderbilt last weekend and the schedule does not get any easier as the Gators will play the Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend in Fayetteville.

9 Mississippi State (27-14, 10-8 SEC)

Mississippi State swept Auburn last weekend after dropping two out of three games to Ole Miss the week before. As far as their conference record goes, the Bulldogs aren’t in an awful spot. They are 10-8 in conference play with four conference series left. This weekend they will play against Vanderbilt in Nashville.

8 Alabama (27-15, 8-11 SEC)

Texas A&M broke Alabama’s streak of winning huge conference series games in Tuscaloosa as the Tide dropped two out of three to the Aggies. Now, the Tide travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. Alabama just took game one 12-0 in only seven innings.

7 South Carolina (27-13, 9-9 SEC)

The Gamecocks were competitive against Arkansas but they ultimately lost two out of three to the Razorbacks to drop to 9-9 in conference play. South Carolina goes from playing the No. 2 team in the country to the No. 4 team in the country and Carolina plays Kentucky this weekend.

6 Georgia (30-10, 9-9 SEC)

After taking two of three games from Ole Miss last weekend, Georgia got their biggest win of the season as they beat a top-five Clemson team 4-3 in 15 innings. Now, Georgia will head to College Station to take on the hottest team in the country right now, the Texas A&M Aggies.

5 Vanderbilt (30-11, 10-8 SEC)

Vandy bounced back last weekend against Florida as they took two out of three games from the Gators to improve their conference record to 10-8. The Commodores will host Mississippi State this weekend in what should be a good series for them.

4 Kentucky (32-7, 15-3 SEC)

For once, I did not jinx an SEC series. The Kentucky-Tennessee matchup lived up to the hype. All three games in the series were must-see TV but unfortunately for Kentucky, Tennessee won the series. The Wildcats dropped to 15-3 in conference play and now they will hit the road to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks.

3 Tennessee (34-7, 12-6 SEC)

Tennessee won the most interesting series of the weekend as they took two out of three games against Kentucky to improve to 11-6 in conference play. The Vols will take on Missouri this weekend and they have already won game one 10-1.

2 Arkansas (35-6, 14-4 SEC)

Arkansas bounced back from the Alabama losses last weekend as they took two out of three games from South Carolina to improve to 14-4 in conference play. Now the Razorbacks will take on a Florida team that is struggling.

1 Texas A&M (36-5, 13-5 SEC)

The hottest team in the country traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on an Alabama team that had just won a series against then-No. 1 Arkansas. The Aggies took two out of three from Alabama and then won a crazy game against Houston on Tuesday. They will now take on Charlie Condon and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Ucla re-enters while stanford plummets in latest power 10 college softball rankings.

Rankings get crazier every single week but here is how I ordered the Power 10 after Week 11 of college softball. 

1. Texas (Previous 1)

Texas and Oklahoma are going to remain at Nos. 1 and 2. The Longhorns moved to 38-6 with a sweep over Kansas.

2. Oklahoma (2)

Oklahoma moved to 42-4 with a sweep over Houston. No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Oklahoma are the top two teams in the nation for sure. 

3. Tennessee (4)

I am very solid on Tennessee at No. 3 as well. The Vols are cruising. They haven't lost an SEC series yet and just took two out of three against LSU thanks to some phenomenal pitching. Payton Gottshall took a perfect game into the seventh on Friday and then Karlyn Pickens had a great outing in the series clincher on Sunday.

4. Oklahoma State (6)

Now this is where it gets tough, but I have Oklahoma State at No. 4. The Cowgirls just swept Texas Tech and still have huge ranked series wins this year against No. 1 Texas. OSU plays Kansas this week before ending the regular season in Norman against Oklahoma. 

5. Duke (3)

Duke falls to No. 5 after dropping an ACC series to Virginia. I almost dropped the Blue Devils further but struggled with who to put ahead of them, especially when they only have six losses on the season and just missed a few opportunities to win the last two games against Virginia, 

6. Arkansas (7)

I have Arkansas down a spot at No. 6. Yes, the Razorbacks have 12 losses, but this team now has four straight SEC series wins, the most recent coming against Alabama. The Razorbacks play LSU on the road this weekend — it's going to be a good one.

7. Texas A&M (10)

Texas A&M follows with three big SEC series victories since getting swept by LSU, Emily Kennedy has been phenomenal in the circle for the Aggies. She struck out seven in a complete game shutout to close out the sweep against Ole Miss last weekend. 

8. Washington (9)

Washington sticks around at No. 8. The Huskies' series win over UCLA is looking better and better as UCLA moves back into the Power 10 after a long while out.

9. UCLA (NR)

Welcome back, UCLA. The Bruins swept previously-No. 5 Stanford to re-enter at No. 9. A two-run homer by Jordan Woolery in the seventh inning of the series finale was all the Bruins needed to secure the sweep over the Cardinal. Just like that, the Bruins are now in first place in the Pac-12. 

10. Stanford (5)

Stanford falls to No. 10 after the Bruins' sweep, and Georgia is my first team out at No. 11, creeping back up after winning the series over Missouri.
