Hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka were great locations. Breakfasts were very good with enough variety. Other provided meals were sufficient for a group tour. Shabu Shabu dinner near Shibuya Crossing was the best meal, outstanding! Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Bullet train ride, Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka are the Japan highlights for first time visitors.

Overall a great experience our guide in…

Overall a great experience our guide in Bangkok was Alice and she was outstanding!! The Hyatt was beyond expectations as was the hotel in Phuket-I would not send people to the one in Chiang Mei, it really is subpar of your brand. Also our guide, cant remember his name was awful-please do not use again- One more thing when in Bangkok one buffet is okay but 3 too many-do a cooking class or a luncheon in someone's home a much more richer experience

Thank you for your feedback, Rhonda . We are glad to hear you had a great experience overall, especially in Bangkok with our outstanding guide, Alice and The Hyatt and the hotel in Phuket exceeded your expectations. However, we apologize for the subpar experience in the Chiang Mai hotel and with the guide. We appreciate your suggestion for a more enriching experience in Bangkok with a cooking class or luncheon in a local home. We value your feedback and will take it into consideration for future improvements. Thank you for choosing our services, and we hope to serve you again in the future.

My daughter and I went on a wonderful private tour of Bali

My daughter and I went on a wonderful private tour of Bali and Singapore in May. Our guide, Annie and driver, Wyn, picked us up at the airport and then again each day at the hotel and took us sightseeing. The hotels were lovely 4 and 5 star hotels. We went to many temples and palaces in Ubud then drove to Nusa Dua famous temples and stayed at the Hotel Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua where they had beautiful pools and the beach. We flew to Singapore where Jeffrey picked us up and took us on a full day of sightseeing including Marina Bay Sands, temples , Mosques and museums. We had plenty of free time another day for shopping and other tours such as a beautiful nighttime River Cruise to see the lights on the huge buildings and having a Singapore Sling at the famous Raffles Hotel.

My husband and I recently experienced…

My husband and I recently experienced the "Yangtze Essence Tour" which included all the air flights, transportation, lodging, food, tour guides, entrance fees, and river cruise. I must say my expectations were met and then some! The tour guides were there to meet us at the airport and escort us to our hotels. They were courteous and knowlegble, explaining much about our excursions., they made sure that our future flights were correct did not leave us until we passed thru security. The hotel accomedations were truly 5 star, the foods were varied and very tasty! The river cruise was also exceptional, breathtaking scenery. I would highly recommend Ritz Tours

Thanks for the awesome review, Elizabeth! We work hard to meet expectations like yours, and we’re happy to hear we hit the mark for you. Come back and see us soon. Happy travels! Ritz Tours

Unreservedly reccomended.

Our guide was helpful and engaging. This was a fifteen day tour with four air flights. Patience and understanding of individuality was always there. We had great local tour guides at each new city. They were funny, cultured, and possessed tremendous local and global knowledge. We saw and learned much

Hi Steven, We're so glad you enjoyed your trip with us! It looks like you really connected with your local tour guides. That's great feedback! We'll be sure to pass that info along. -Ritz Tours

Wonderful China Adventures With Ritz Tours

Ritz Tours paired our tour group to China with a 5-star rated tour guide Ocean whose extensive experience and expertise navigated us through the various sights and attractions on our 16-Days Scenic Yangtze Discovery Tour. Ocean is very responsive to our needs, customizing and catering to the varying needs of different members in our 10-member tour group, making each one feeling like a VIP. The hotels are top-notch, the variety of meals are delicious, and the cruise ship Victoria Sabrina is world-class, and the local guides are very knowlegeable and friendly. Although tiring as we zip through so many cities and attractions, Ritz Tours has given us a very memorable and wonderful experience. I will gladly recommend Ritz Tours to my friends and family members and mention Ocean as the person to choose as their tour guide. Kudos to Ritz Tours!

Date of experience : April 09, 2024

Hey Arnold, We're ecstatic to hear that you had an amazing trip to China with us! We're so glad you loved all the inclusions, and it's delightful to hear that Ocean provided you with excellent service. We consider ourselves very lucky to have him on our team. Thank you for choosing us, and we can't wait to see where you travel with us next!

The Dubai, Jordan and Egypt trip that our group of 17 people took was amazing. We did many unexpected excursions. Everyone loved it. We had Very knowledgeable guides, great hotels and the restaurants were delicious.

Hey Maricela, We are thrilled to hear that you had a great trip to Dubai, Jordan, and Egypt with us! Knowing that all aspects of your trip were amazing definitely puts a smile on our faces. Looking forward to seeing you again soon!"

Jordan, Israel, Istanbul

Tour guides for each country were friendly, reliable, very knowledgeable and really made this a great experience. Our tour leader Nathan did an amazing job as a multi-lingual tour guide, we got way more out of the trip than if we’d not had a multi-lingual tour guide. Would absolutely go on another joint Ritz tours/Peony tour in the future!

Date of experience : May 26, 2023

MK, this review made our day! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this amazing review. We are so grateful for your kind words. We will have to let Nathan know as well! We look forward to having you on another one of our tours!

My mom and I truly enjoyed our tour

My mom and I truly enjoyed our tour. Everything was as described in the itinerary and all the guides and tour manager was super helpful. It’s a full schedule and the pace can be taxing for those with mobility issues but the sites are fascinating to include the preferred shops. Bring enough cash to exchange for tips and toilet use fees while away from the hotels.

Date of experience : March 22, 2023

Thanks for the awesome review, Kiesha! We work hard to meet your expectations and beyond, and we’re happy to hear we hit the mark for your family. We hope you both will come back and explore more of the world with us soon!

china Tour 2019

The great majority of the tour was outstanding. We had wonderful guides, accommodations and activities. They only disappointment was our hotel room in Hong Kong. We were given a 3rd floor room, looking out at a wall and an alley. We were offered an upgrade, for a price, but we believed we should have received the upgrade as part of our tour package. All other hotel rooms in other locations were superior.

Date of experience : May 13, 2019

Hello John, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate all feedback and strive to make your trip comfortable and memorable. We're very pleased that your overall experience was a positive one and hope to travel with you again soon! Ritz Tours

Tour of Beijing, Xian, Guilin and Shanghai

Our tour of China went very well. Our group tour guide was very good at keeping track of our group, and the local guides were knowledgeable and entertaining on long tour bus rides. I did note that our family's seats were separated on some of the local flights, which were changed from the original itinerary, but Ritz may not have had control over this.

Date of experience : June 12, 2019

Hi Thomas, we are glad that you enjoyed your trip, overall! But, we are truly sorry to hear about the experience you had with the seats on some of your flights. Though the policies and procedures of local airlines are beyond our control, we sincerely apologize for these incidences that adversely impacted your overall experience. We appreciate your valuable feedback, and we will use this information as we continue to improve our services. We look forward to having you back again soon! Ritz Tours

Excellent Tour of Japan!

We had a wonderful time in Japan with Ritz Tours. From their handling of flights to the local tour guide Fusako, who was accommodating and helpful. Great trip! Thank you!

Date of experience : April 08, 2024

Hey Luv2Shop, So thrilled that you had a wonderful and seamless Japan trip with us! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Great choice of cities and areas!

The itinerary was great, but we didn’t really have guides. Neither of the two women filled the role in an acceptable manner, but the group worked together to pull things off!! There were too many restaurant experiences in a day. We’d have a great meal for lunch and a great meal for dinner and go to bed stuffed. There was A LOT OF WALKING—don’t take this if you have bad knees! Again, though, I want to repeat the trip’s geographical coverage was great!!

Date of experience : April 19, 2023

Dear Jean, Thank you for sharing your experience. We are glad to know you enjoyed the destination and that the itinerary and meals were to your liking. We sincerely apologize for your experience with the tour guides. You are right to expect knowledgeable and professional staff and we are deeply sorry that wasn’t your experience. We have shared your feedback with our local partners to make sure such a situation doesn't occur in the future. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to see you on one of our trips!

Experiencing China

My husband and I are not tour people, preferring to travel independently. However, being active seniors with English as our sole language, we realized if we wanted to visit China it would have to be via a tour. Ritz Tours was recommended to us by a number of friends and we were fortunate to travel with two of them. The highlight of our tour was our guide, Ocean Hu. Ocean is a master story teller; we will remember his stories long after we have forgotten which dynasty ruled when. The local guides were also very good; enthusiastic about their regional area and very open to questions and explanations. We visited China in an effort to learn more about the country and Ocean fulfilled this desire and then some. He is incredibly knowledgeable, warm, friendly, flexible, understanding of the different needs of the tour group, and kept his sense of humor under even the most difficult of circumstances. A born leader! A couple of things we wished we had known prior to departure: the hotels are not air-conditioned until May and squat toilets are not for the faint of heart. Also a shout out to Lillian and Olga, who were extremely responsive and helpful. We returned to San Francisco with a much better appreciation of China today. So a successful experience!

Date of experience : April 04, 2024

Hey Martha, Thank you for choosing us for your China trip! We are thrilled that your journey through China was memorable and enriching, and that Ocean Hu, along with our local guides, made it special with their captivating storytelling and knowledge. We are lucky to have them on our team. We're also glad Lillian and Olga could assist you effectively. We look forward to welcoming you on another adventure soon!

The Japan Tour was fantastic

The Japan Tour was fantastic, way above my expectations. The guide, Hiroshi, took great care of our group, working extremely hard to make sure things go well for all of us. His heart was in his work! Thank you very much. The itinerary was ideal, not too much and not too little. I am a senior citizen, and the amount of walking and sightseeing was just over my limits, but that was great. I had to push myself to keep up, and that gave me a chance to improve my endurance. I appreciate it very much. The sites were all great, filled with cultural treasures. I learned so much more about Japan than I expected. The Japanese keep their country clean, orderly and welcoming. We have so much to learn from them! We also appreciate the fine meals arranged by the tour; all at unique and high quality establishments. We don't travel with tour packages much, but the more frequent travelers in our group mentioned that the meals were definitely a cut above, especially compared to cut-rate offerings (Gate1, for instance.) Bravo, Hiroshi and Ritz! Great job and great value. Highly recommended.

Date of experience : April 06, 2024

Hey Fred, Thank you for your glowing review. We're thrilled to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your trip to Japan and that it exceeded your expectations! We truly appreciate you highlighting Hiroshi's outstanding service, and we couldn't agree more. We can't wait to see you again soon!

Most everything went very well

Most everything went very well. The exception is the tour guides did not volunteer information about the city, the people, and some times too little information about the places we are visiting.

Date of experience : February 06, 2024

Hi Parke, Thank you for leaving us a review. We are glad to hear you had a good trip overall. You have a right to expect an informative tour guide, and we're sorry to hear that wasn't your experience. We take your feedback seriously; as such, we have shared this with our local partners to ensure that guides are thorough in providing information about the trip and sightseeing places.

We recently returned from a 16 day trip to China. Our experience was wonderful. The guides were knowledgeable and personable. They took great care of us and made sure everything ran smoothly. They were always there waiting for us at the airport and made sure we got to our next destination. The accommodations were outstanding. We would highly recommend Ritz tours.

Date of experience : October 17, 2019

Hi Marlene, thank you for your 5-star review! We try our best to make you experience as positive as possible and we're glad to see that we've hit the mark with your tour through China. Come back and see us soon! Ritz Tours

Hotel problem in Shanghai

Ocean, the guide, was excellent as he took good care of us. The hotel in Guilin was certainly not 5-star. Though the Intercontinental was 5- star, but we ran into problem of a toxic smell in our room, elevators, and certain floors which caused tremendous headache and pain on the left side of my head. We had to move to another room on a different floor. Hotel people acknowledged problem but woudn't tell us the cause. Then on the day we were leaving, we started to smell that toxic stuff again in the room we moved to. We were very unhappy about that.

Date of experience : May 12, 2018

Dear Connie, Thanks for your review of your China tour and we are pleased you enjoyed your tour manager Ocean. We are sorry to hear about your problems with your hotel room in Guilin and glad the hotel was able to accommodate you and move you to a different room. We will be sure to investigate this with the hotel. Thank you

Very professional and helpful tour guide

Very professional tour guide who is very helpful, well organized and respectful. The trip is too much walking for seniors and should make arrangements to reduce less walking distances. Other than that we really enjoy that ‘Jewel of Japan’ trip. Plan to visit another place with ritz tour next year.

Date of experience : October 04, 2018

Thank you so much for reaching out to us about what you enjoyed and what we can do to make your experience better next time! Information like this helps us build better excursions and I'll be sure to pass this information along. We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed your trip overall and plan to travel with us again in the future. Happy travels! Ritz Tours

Lillian/Ritz Tour EXCELLENT service

Lillian was amazing, always available, always found what I needed and looking for. She accommodate myself and my friend with such ease despite all the discrepancies my small group had amongst each other. And trust me we had so many . Our Bali trip was exceptional and unforgettable. From our tour guide to our hotel to our tours. 10 all across to board. Planning my Dubai trip NOW lol. Thank you Ritz your for your 5 star service.

Date of experience : November 24, 2022

Thanks for the incredible review, Stephanie! We work hard to meet your expectations and beyond, and Lillian was able to do that for you. Come back and see us soon on your trip to Dubai!

Z E R O stars if allowed‼I took the Best of Japan trip in April 2023, what a nightmare! Before leaving to Japan we had issues with the travel agent & the agency manager. #1 they purchased the wrong insurance package, #2 - I was overcharged for the flight, #3 the refund was not returned to me because the owner was on vacation, so I would get it then. #4 they booked a 9 hr. layover flight, #5 they misspelled my companions name on the travel ticket and we were delayed at the airport. #6 The Agency does not answer the emergency numbers, #7 the tour guide was inexperienced, who spent more time arguing with the driver during the trip, she also had very limited knowledge of sceneries, barely explained the sceneries or history. #8 last day in Japan and the agency didn't take care of the ticket situation. The agency does not apologize nor expresses any sincerity for correcting any issues. DO NOT HIRE THEM TO MESS YOUR VACATION‼

After I came back for 10 days 8 nights China Discovery Tour from Ritz Tours on July 2017, I felt very disappointed and did not recommend at all. This tour was totally different than a few years ago that my co-worker came back and told us to join this tour. We did left voice mails and emails to complaint and did not get any response and result from Ritz tours. Unprofessional and inexperienced tour guide, who spent 90% of the time talking to driver during the trip, and did not interact with us, also she had very limited knowledge of sceneries, barely explained the sceneries and all she said was walked by ourselves and met us within the time flame. Lunches were inedible with a huge lack of meat and vegetables with an odd odor. All of us hardly touched the meals. We did complained to the tour guide and she said those foods were from country side. "But we joined the luxury tour and expected the good food." Suzhou excursion was completely ripped off ($380 for party of four). We spent about one and a half hours in the car ride each way, forty five minutes at The Master of the Net Garden. Eat early lunch around 11:30 in a local restaurant. We told her it was too early for us, we just had breakfast at 8:30am. She said that we had no choice. After lunch, we spent about twenty minutes at the Suzhou Canal River with little history of the canal. She did not provide any information about scenery. Suzhou often called the "Venice of the East" expecting the manual boat ride not the motor boat. Unfortunately we were in the motor boat ride. Once we reached the Entry of Suzhou Village, the boat turned around and we didn't have a chance to walk around. The purpose we chose the package was to walk the Village and discover its highlights on a guide tour. When we requested her to walk around inside the village, she told us that it was not part of the tour package. We drove back to Shanghai and were dropped off before 3:00 pm. We felt we were so foolish to join the Suzhou tour.

Thank you for your repeated comments and feedback to us here on Yelp. We hear you loud and clear when you wrote to us on August 7 whereby we have replied directly to your email address on August 16. Your current claim of not getting any response from us about this matter is indeed baffling. Nonetheless, we wish to reiterate that we must sincerely apologize to you and your family for the tour being not up to your expectations. We appreciate your feedback on the tour contents and the need for best guide practices. We have since taken remedial actions against the guide in question and as mentioned in our earlier direct response to you that has gone amissed perhaps in your spam folder, we would like to refund you and your family the full cost of the tour to Suzhou that was considered unsatisfactory. Again, we urge you to get in touch with us by calling me directly at our head office telephone 1-888-345-7489 to arrange for the best route for this refund. You can also please respond to the email sent. We hope to put to rest your concerns as soon as possible and we value your critic to help make us better. Thank you. Sincerely, Iris Yang

Public Safety! It's all about public safety! August 26,2009 was a disastrous trip we ever had. I do not recommend Ritz Tours to anyone. Among many issues, the short version of the comments are: the tour guide was under influence of alcohol on our first night out for a NY night tour. The tour guide insulted American culture while introducing the Lincoln Memorial and The Bell in Philadelphia. The hotel rooms were dirty for our first two nights... I felt so helpless when no one answered my phone call to the emergency numbers, which were provided in the tourist's handouts, for the tour guide became combative after my husband had asked him to re-adjust his standing position for his waiving left arm/hands had hit him. Spoke up unapologetically,, he said that that is his way when he talks, and told my husband that he should be courteous when he talks to him. - -- Yeah! Just unbelievable! and incomprehensible! At the end of the trip, we gave back the company's Q&A survey sheets with all these issues. Furthermore when we got back home, we immediately contacted Ritz Tours at Alhambra office and were instructed to mail a detailed letter to the Ritz Tours at 208 S. First Street, Alhambra, CA 91801, so we did. For the PUBLIC SAFETY issues and concerns, we followed up by several mails, emails but failed to receive immediate attention from anyone - from top management to service agent. After more than 30 days the Ritz Tours responded us. Sadly, the Ritz Tours simply said, they've done according to what they had advertised for the Hotels, and neither apologized nor expressed any sincerity for correcting those issues. I wonder if they are ever going to improve the quality of service. So, NEVER RITZ TOURS!

This review is for a Peony Tours vacation instead of a Ritz Tours vacation, although the former is a subsidiary company. Ritz Tours do not offer USA East Coast tours. We appreciate every guest's concerns and feedback. Public and client safety is of utmost importance to us. Since this isolated incident, all necessary steps to correct the situation were made. We guarantee that our tour guides operate under the highest quality standards of service. Thank you.

I actually went on my Ritz tour to China a couple of years back, but based off another review on this page (John), things seem to be pretty similar. The wife and I did a 2 week tour around China. Pros: -tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Spoke English well (although he usually spoke for around 5min in Mandarin, and then 1min in English, so obviously the English was an abbreviated version). Fortunately my wife speaks Mandarin, and could give me the extra details. -visit a lot of places, pretty full itinerary (this can be a pro or a con) -everything is basically covered, so no need to take too much yuan (exclusions are the tip to the tour guide at end, and some optional activities which at that time included a martial arts show, in room massage, etc) -very nice hotels, most of which had free wifi and complimentary bfast (which was also nice) -guide does a good job of making sure that everyone keeps up with the group (in contrast to another locally run Chinese tour that I just came back from which actually lost a person!) -dinners come with complimentary beer -the price: awesome value, considering the nice hotels, all meals included, transport etc Cons (all of these apply to tours in general, as opposed to specifically Ritz): -the mandatory stop at various shops. There are a lot of these, and they do take time (at least an hr per stop). The tour company is definately getting a cut of sales, which explains why they can offer the tour at such a good price... I guess they do the job though, since I ended up buying a few things, including a couple of hundred dollars worth of green tea -the lunches/ dinners are not the best/ totally authentic. You can find better Chinese in Socal. These restaurants are designed only for tour groups. So you don't really get the authentic Chinese dining experience. The food quality was okay. I ended up staying in Shanghai an extra week after the tour ended so I got to experience the proper food - I would highly recommend this -you are basically forced to run at the tour company's pace. This means that you are going to be spending insufficient time at things you may like a lot (for me the Forbidden City for eg), and way too much time at more boring places (gardens, etc). Tour consists of a diverse group of people (it is kid friend and old person friendly).

Wow! What happened to this tour agency? When I took a tour with them in 2008 they were great! Our tour guide was James and he was very organized, very knowledgeable, and really accommodated us when we had problems. He even gave us money to use the toilet when we hadn't exchanged any of our money into Euros/Pounds yet! (They make you pay to use the loo in Europe!) We took the 17 day tour of Europe. The countries we visited during this tour were Italy, France, Britain, Netherlands, Liechtenstein, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Belgium! The tour was awesome and its a shame they don't offer it anymore (at least not what I can see on their website). They might offer it though because I remember the tour was only advertised in their brochures but not on their website. So make sure to call them to double check! The tour was approximately $3000 for all those countries and included many meals! It was such a deal! Our main transportation to Europe was by plane, but travel to the adjacent countries were by bus or high speed train (Eurorail). The tour was mostly an Asian tour and our guide spoke Mandarin and English, so I did not have any trouble understanding what was said. The only thing I would have changed were the many meals at Chinese restaurants. Unless we did their optional tours, where an ethnic meal of the country we were visiting was offered, all other meals were at Chinese restaurants! This was mostly because many of the people on our tour were Chinese/Asian elderly people (and I guess they like what they are accustomed to?) Thankfully I did not get sick from eating any of the food which is an indication that the restaurants Ritz Tours took us to were clean and sanitary! (I have a sensitive stomach) Overall (in 2008), I thought Ritz Tour offered a very organized and well planned tour! I'm so grateful I got to visit all those countries! Quick update: Just read the filtered reviews for this business and Kelly C indicated that there are two types of tours with Ritz. One tour is for the Chinese speaking Americans (the one I went on apparently...) going to Asia and Europe (ritztours.net) and the other is towards English speaking Americans going to Asia (ritztours.com). Check out her review. It was flagged (dunno why?) but very thorough on how the tours are like.

I took a Ritz tour to China several years ago so I did not hesitate to book my November 2018 vacation to Thailand with them. Their single supplement rate has increased substantially and they wouldn't budge on the pricing. I was not happy with the air arrangement they offered so I booked that on my own and was then charged an additional airport transfer fee, even though I was included in the same bus with the rest of the group for the flights home But the worst issue was that I was forced to spend my entire vacation with a group of 19 family members having a reunion. The family spoke in their language all the time even with me sitting at their table during meals. I was made to feel I was intruding on a private trip when in fact it was a public tour. Ritz never had the decency to notify me ahead of my leaving from New York to see if I wanted to reschedule. It was so uncomfortable for me that I asked each of the tour guides to seat me alone during meals, which they went out of their way to accommodate me When I returned and emailed a complaint, Olga tried to say Ritz didn't know it was one family, which wasn't true because one of the family members mentioned that one of them made all their arrangements and also the tour guide in Bankgkok knew before they arrived they were a family group I was only offered $200 credit on a 2019 trip Absolute appalling customer service

We booked the Premiere Majestic China & Yangtze River 15 day Tour (Oct 5-19, 2014) and were told if we had 10 people we'd have our own guide. So we got ten people who wanted to go. When we arrived in Beijing we were met by our guide who informed us 8 more people would be joining us. What were we to do? While it worked out OK, we were unable to request private activities due to the now larger group. They got us on this one. All of the accommodations were wonderful, the flights were on time with new aircraft and airports. The Li river tour was interesting but we could have missed that one. The Yangtze was impressive if you could see the banks. The smog is terrible all over China, not just Beijing. You must get to 20,000 feet in a plane before you come out of it. We couldn't see the Three Gorges dam due to the smog. The absolute highlight of our tour was our guide Ocean (not his given name) He was very knowledgeable, witty and made the tour. He took care of everything, tours, flights, luggage. You name it he took care of it. We're all glad we made the trip when we did but you realize that China has made tremendous progress since Mao died but at a tremendous price. You can't breathe the air or drink the water. So sad.

The reviewer booked our tour indeed as a private group almost one year ago in 2014. There was no additional financial commitment requested by us for this particular arrangement, and regrettably an administrative error then did not highlight such an arrangement to our operational team in Shanghai at that time. When this honest mistake was discovered through an email complaint by the reviewer's spouse whilst she was on the trip, we immediately offered to separate their group of 10 persons from the other 8 guests by flying another tour manager to the next tour destination in China to rectify the situation plus separate tour transportation arrangements for their group. We were then surprised by the reviewer's response that had claimed that since it was already in the middle of the journey, plus the fact that their group had had excellent rapport and joyful companionship with the other 8 persons thus far then, they collectively then and there decided NOT to be separated from each other into two smaller groups. We were made to understand that this was a unilateral decision by the reviewer's group (which was also affirmed by the booking agent of the complainant) and our operational team had to rely on and respect their latest ground decision not to be separated. We have also apologized profusely for the operational error to the reviewer and her agent last year, and thought that they were already set and happy with their decision at that time.We had been very upfront and had sought to rectify the situation as quickly as possible - which is exactly why we have been under the same ownership for over 35 years with loyal repeat customers. Reviewer has been contacted. Again, we sincerely apologize to the reviewer for the now claimed dissatisfaction that is contrary to their original decision when the issue could have been resolved or at least mitigated - although we would agree, not in totality. Still, we are glad that our tour quality in terms of hotel selection and guiding experiences experiences were affirmed very positively.

Just got back from a 14 day tour of China. Was run very well, hotels were all top notch 5 star except the last night in Hong Kong which was an older place and not up to the quality of the others. Good deal for the money, but need to mention the little known "forced shopping" that goes with China tours. Apparently, tour groups get very good deals by incorporating stops along the way at government sanctioned "musuems" and "factories" which are thin facades for souvenir shops. This gets pretty old quickly. When your guide says that you will be stopping at a jade musuem, you can expect a brief tour of a small area where jade is cut and polished and then an hour or so let loose in a giant jade store. So, we have all the main Chinese famous exports and their shops added to the tour itinerary- jade, silk, tea, jewelry, etc. useful if you need to pick up some gifts, but very artificial feeling. The government sanctioned dinners and lunches (the Chinese government doesn't want tourists running around getting sick at unregulated local restaurants of their own choosing) are dumbed down for large groups of people, so you miss out on the extremes of local cuisine...no spicy stuff, nothing really scary or exotic. My wife and I skipped these on occasion and foraged REAL food for ourselves, but note that the tour guide may not let you do that. Hotels were fantastic, as I mentioned before, but we had the top end package which has all five star accomodations. Another thing to note is that you will need cash for driver and guide "tips", maybe $10 per day per driver and guide. On a Europe tour we did this before, so it wasn't a surprise, just be aware of it. Days are long- usually from 8am to 8pm or so...would be nice to have more time for yourself, but I suspect this is the group's way of keeping tabs on people and not letting them get lost or in trouble. We had some great local guides and two bum ones (they lacked enthusiasm). Definitely would go back to see more of China with the same agency. My wife is Chinese and our group was mostly Chinese, but a mix of Mandarin and Cantonese, so all of the guides spoke both English and Mandarin.

My husband and I just got back from an 11-day tour of China with Ritz Tours. Overall, it was a good experience, however, there are certainly some red flags you should know in advance before booking. As everyone else has mentioned, there are obligatory stops at a Jade Factory, a Pearl Factory, a Silk Factory, and a place that creates Terra Cotta soldier replicas. While we felt somewhat pressured into buying something, we didn't give in and found similar items at the airport and various other shops at similar prices- they weren't the 'best price' as the sales people would suggest. All of the hotel accommodations were fine, except in Beijing. The New Otani Hotel is outdated- the rooms all smell of smoke and ours had moldy carpet, but they could not change our room because they were 'completely booked'. The breakfast at the New Otani also lacked, but the other hotels more than made up for it. The domestic flights were not on Air China, as the tour advertised. Most of the flights were fine, but just be aware that you'll be flying smaller, lesser known airlines. The cruise was nice. We were sequestered to the 'executive level' dining room on the top floor with the other Americans. It was somewhat odd how they kept us separate, but overall, the cruising experience was positive. The food was terrible. We learned (the last day of our tour!), that tour guide is given an allowance and can take you anywhere he/she chooses. Had we known this earlier on, we would have asked to look at the menu as opposed to simply being served random fried items that were sitting in oil. The best food was the breakfast buffet at the hotels. The Sheraton in Xi'an was brand new when we stayed there- we were one of their first guests, which was good and bad. They hadn't worked out all the kinks (i.e. the internet didn't work and the gym/spa was still under construction), but the rooms were very nice. The guides were hit or miss. We got stuck with a young kid in Shanghai who didn't know much about the city- and he was a bit too shy to be giving tours, but most of the other guides were fine. Overall, China itself is amazing- and the convenience of having someone plan all the transfers and meals is helpful, but be warned that it comes with a price tag.

Lilian did a great job in organizing this tour for us. Through her patience with our requests and changes, it was well organized and planned out. Just returned from the Beijing-Xian-Shanghai-Hong Kong tour. Nina greeted us at the airport and gave us an intro on what to expect. The real tour starts when she introduces the other guide the next day. Ocean and Nina formed a perfect team. We learned about single and married life in China through them. Nina only stayed with us in Beijing and we learned so much about Beijing, will have to come back to learn the rest. Ocean helped us throught the maze at the Beijing airport, in his spare time while we were waiting, he even helped other tour guides get their acts together at the airport so we would not have to wait so long. Lucy teamed with Ocean in Xian and she was very knowledgeable about Xian and shared with us her life in Xian, very impressive. We hope to learn more from her next time also. Ocean kept the group together the whole time. The tour group became family, it was fun getting to know each other as well as experience China together. Ocean stayed with us in Shanghai. He was very knowledgeable about ALL the places we went. He gave us practical information we needed and prepared us well for each of the places visited. He was also accommodating in helpful to make this tour one to remember and one to come back to. He organized us at the airport as we departed our separate ways. +Hope to learn more from him next time. In Hong Kong, we were greeted by Alan at the airport and he stayed with us for the short half day tour of HK. The rest of the time was on our own. We enjoyed HK so much we stayed an extra 2 days. Two and a half days in HK is not enough, but that is what we planned in the beginning, so ends our tour. Too bad there was no direct flight from HK to US. We had to endure the flight back to Beijing then transfer to US.

9 of the Best Views of Los Angeles with No Hiking Required

Updated : August 14, 2024

AAA Travel Editor, Sherry Mims

Table of contents, favorite restaurants with a view, best views in los angeles for a night out, perfect pairing: scenic hiking views, enjoy la views with aaa.

In a place known for scenic backdrops, people-watching and dramatics (onscreen and off), you'll want to make time for other sightings, namely the best views in Los Angeles. While hiking trails provide an easy opportunity to connect with nature, the metropolitan area also boasts a fabulous downtown skyline that can be enjoyed at some of the finest restaurants and bars. Whether you're looking to dine under the stars or sip cocktails by the Pacific Ocean, LA's culinary scene provides scenic vantage points that perfectly capture SoCal’s beauty and overall vibe.

Granted, there are several claimants for best views in LA, so joining us in the search for an amazing view is Inspector 630, born and raised in California, sharing several personal favorites with us. For the best views in LA, our expert suggests starting with a fantastic AAA Four Diamond resort, home to two exceptional dining establishments on the Palos Verdes Peninsula . “My first choice would be mar'sel or Nelson's,” said AAA Inspector 630, whose territory includes the Los Angeles area. “They are both on the Terranea Resort , and have incredible ocean and sunset views facing Catalina Island. This is nearby where I grew up and live, so they are certainly personal favorites.”

Also recommended are Parker's Lighthouse in Long Beach for sweeping harbor views and then Kincaid's for an enjoyable panoramic marina experience in Redondo Beach. Other best bets with a great view on our list include 71Above Restaurant & Skylounge, Cast & Plow (at Ritz Carlton), Nobu Malibu, The Rooftop Beverly Hills, and SkyBar Lounge at Mondrian Los Angeles. Each provides unique perspectives of the city or coastline.

ritz tour

mar’sel at Terranea Resort

  • Destination: Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
  • Designation: AAA Three Diamond, AAA Inspector Pick: Inspector’s Best of Scenic View
  • What for: Meal with a view

The patio area at mar’sel allows you to take in the view as you dine. Choose from Seafood Royale — oysters, prawns and cocktail sauce — among other seafood options. Plant-based foods like cauliflower and white chocolate soup add versatility for vegetarian and vegan diners. Order a dessert at sunset as the cherry on top. It’s Inspector’s 603 Best of Scenic View and a personal favorite:

Inspector 630 Pick Text: “I reserve a table on the heated patio, prior to sunset, to take in the incredible views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island.”

Nelson’s at Terranea Resort

  • Designation: AAA Three Diamond
  • What for: Al fresco dining

Named to honor the 1950s show, “Sea Hunt,” Nelson’s at Terranea Resort serves delicious coastal cuisine. On a clear day, it's the perfect spot to sip a signature cocktail over a fire pit while dining outdoors and enjoying ocean views. Favorite dishes include Maine lobster roll with citrus aioli and blackened salmon salad with pomegranate dressing.

Parker’s Lighthouse

  • Destination: Long Beach, CA
  • Designation: AAA Three Diamond and Inspector’s Best of Scenic View
  • What for: Views of the Queen Mary and overall surfside ambience

Dine with spectacular views of the harbor — maybe even the sound of a fog horn. Popular dishes at Parker’s Lighthouse include the filet mignon as well as the catch of the day and clam chowder. It’s also a favorite of Inspector 630, who notes Parker’s Lighthouse has great views from any seat in the restaurant: “Most of them face the historic Queen Mary, which is docked across the harbor. Sunsets are fabulous from there.”

Inspector 630 Pick Text: " I like to make my reservation just prior to sunset in order to take in the gorgeous views of the harbor and Queen Mary."

Kincaid’s Fish, Chop & Steakhouse

  • Destination: Redondo Beach, CA
  • What for: Table by the window for the sunset

Expect seafood, steak and some delicious prime rib in a lively and inviting atmosphere at Kincaid's - Redondo . Dinner is complete with an ample selection of desserts and wines, but be sure to make a reservation at this beloved restaurant. Inspector 630 notes it as a top-three pick as well as an Inspector’s Best of Scenic View.

Inspector 630 Pick Text: “I like to reserve a table by a window to take in the gorgeous sunset views.”

ritz tour

71Above Restaurant & Skylounge

  • Destination: Downtown Los Angeles, CA
  • Designation: AAA Four Diamond
  • What for: Downtown Overlook

71Above Restaurant & Skylounge , one of LA’s best restaurants with a beautiful view, is in the Bank Tower. The dining room serves dinner, while the bar menu offers small meals and sharing options. Steak tartare, Wagyu beef and seasonal vegetables are must-have favorites. Note there are a few things to know before you go, including the reservation requirement, dress code and extra fee for wine pairings.

Cast & Plow (at Ritz Carlton)

  • Destination: Marina Del Rey, CA
  • Designation: AAA Three Diamond restaurant at Four Diamond Ritz-Carlton
  • What for: Sunsets at this beachfront farm-to-table restaurant

Watch as the sun sets from the comfort of the heated patio dining with fire pit tables at Cast & Plow . Enjoy the Cast & Plow Burger with Mishima Waygu beef, truffle aioli, mushroom duxelle, peppered maple bacon and house-made frites. This waterfront restaurant keeps in mind seasonality and availability in the market, so expect a changing menu.

Nobu Malibu

  • Destination: Malibu, CA
  • What for: Sunset views and a scenic drive along the Pacific Coast Highway

From practically every dining room angle, diners can enjoy ocean views from the floor-to-ceiling windows at Nobu Malibu . Stone, glass and wood elements reflect the Japanese-influenced style. Delicious menu items include sashimi salad, monkfish with caviar, tuna tempura rolls, yellowtail with jalapeño peppers, and black cod with miso. Reservations are required for the popular destination, where celebrity sightings are not uncommon.

The Rooftop Beverly Hills

  • Destination: Beverly Hills, CA
  • Designation: Inside AAA Five Diamond Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills
  • What for: Ideal location with city skyline views

The Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, situated on Wilshire Boulevard, is famous for its opulence, and guests can enjoy breathtaking city views from The Rooftop Beverly Hills. The setting has an upscale vibe, so guests should make early reservations and dress at least smart casual.

SkyBar Lounge at Mondrian Los Angeles

  • Destination: West Hollywood, CA
  • Designation: Inside AAA Three Diamond Mondrian Los Angeles
  • What for: Night views in LA

Open-air SkyBar Lounge, found within AAA Three Diamond Mondrian Los Angeles , offers the best night view in LA, with stunning views of city lights and the Hollywood Hills. Skybar's décor complements its sophisticated poolside patio, making it the ideal late-afternoon retreat (aka premium happy hour). By night, it changes into a popular spot with talented DJs and plenty of Hollywood glitz, so remember to dress to impress.

ritz tour

For those who want to balance their culinary adventures with some outdoor activity, squeeze in a good hike with an iconic view — notably Griffith Park attractions like the Griffith Observatory and famous Hollywood Sign (by way of the Mount Hollywood Trail and Brush Canyon Trail). LA hikes also include Runyon Canyon, the accessible Bowl Loop Trail in Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, and Edward Albert Trail to Escondido Falls in nearby Malibu. Other great hikes include Switzer Falls Trail in Angeles National Forest and Portuguese Bend Reserve Loop in Rancho Palos Verdes. To continue on this path, check out AAA's suggested best hikes in LA , ranging from historic to hidden gem, to go deeper in your search for the right vantage point, or follow your stomach all the way on our tour of hot spots and restaurants with a view.

Out-of-towners surely have heard of the Universal City Overlook (off Mulholland Drive) or Hollywood's Yamashiro, a particularly historic and storied Japanese restaurant. Still, while there are abundant views of Los Angeles, this list focuses on AAA Diamond restaurants and hotspots within AAA Diamond properties — places anonymously inspected for quality and condition regularly. These fun places to go range from Inspector Picks, as noted, to legendary fine-dining restaurants and bars with the best night views in Los Angeles. For an amazing experience that's stress-free, consult with a AAA Travel Agent for additional tips on where to go and what to see, and consider the best time to visit LA, such as shoulder season.
