ACTIVE AND FUN

It seems that the destiny of the centennial palm grove, made up of about four thousand trees and known as Los Leones or The Lions, in reference to the two sculptures at its entrance, was preordained.

This was the location selected to establish the Rio Safari Elche Park in 1983, by the CV 865 road which links Elche, which is nine kilometres away, and Santa Pola, just four kilometres away.

A Hundred Species

Rio Safari Park are specialists in rearing and caring for wild and exotic animals. Sea lions, antelopes, ostriches, bisons, boa constrictors, zebras, chameleons, cockatoos, chimpanzees, crows, llamas, jaguars, dromedaries, hippos and giraffes may be found here amongst almost a hundred species and nearly 800 animals.

To enjoy their unique company a guided tour by train may be taken around the park. There are also various shows to enjoy including the sea lions, with the possibility of bathing in their company and the guacamayos.

Rio Safari Elche, through its charitable foundation, has developed a therapeutic programmes involving sea lions, designed for people with disabilities.

marca-calidad1

Some highlights of the Rio Safari Park are the reptile cave, where the habitats of reptiles and amphibians are recreated, the aviary, the crocodile farm and the chimpanzee island with more than 1,000 square metres of open space, with vines, rocks and hammocks as well as the farm school, with painting, bread baking and recycling workshops. Young children may get to know the little goats and lemurs and have a ride on a pony or dromedary.

In the restaurant it is possible to taste a typical rice dish baked over wood chips. For those who prefer to bring their own food, there is a picnic area and there is also a cafeteria.

In addition there are trampolines, a kart circuit and, in the summer, a swimming pool with slide.

Swimming with Sea Lions 5⭐️

Wow!!! Absolutely amazing experience swimming with sea lions. Staff were so friendly and explained about the animals. The animals looked very well cared for and were so excited to be interacting with us. It is expensive but well worth the money. Thank you for allowing us to do this.

So once I knew I was able to feed a giraffe, this place was always getting 5 stars!! In all seriousness from driving into the car park this day was great, the guy on the car park definitely enjoyed his job and was very welcoming. The entry price was great, about 60 euros for 2 adults, a disabled and an OAP. We were given a time for the safari jeep ride and purchased some monkey nuts at the gift shop. We only knew about the monkey nuts from reading reviews on here. Definitely buy some so you can feed the animals. I saved mine for the giraffes. We ate at the restaurant near the entrance. Menu of the day was really good value and really tasty. Can't remember the price but you got a salad, drink, main and dessert and it was more than enough! All of us enjoyed the whole day but especially feeding the animals. Here in the UK, you have to pay extra for that experience but it was included. The giraffes were so gentle and elegant. They're my favourite animal and this place made me encounter one of the best experiences I've had.

We enjoyed a good day out first of all at the safari with a picnic then headed to the splash park after the seal show my 7 year old and 2 year old really enjoyed themselves and I thought the entrance fee was reasonable for a whole day of fun

We went to the zoo and water park and had a lovely day out. We spent about 4 and a half hours there. It was the best day of our holiday and the children loved it! Would definately go again.

Me, my wife and child visited here in July after reading various reviews both positive and negative. Obviously we can only give our experience which was amazing. The entrance fee was reasonable and we had a voucher to get free access to the splash park which in truth we wouldn't have minded paying for. We also payed to do the sealion experience which was only 35 Euros each for around an hour compared to Mundomars Dolphin experience which is/was 145 Euros for only 30 mins. The sealion experience was amazing and we got to do a variety of things with them including stroking the animals, we saw a total of 4. We received kisses from them, got them to jump through hoops and circle us following our hand and more. The instructors were very helpful with good English. They also had 1 sealion who didn't want to carry on so they stopped and explained that if the animals decide they aren't up to it then they don't force them, which we thought was very caring. They alternated the Sealions as the day was hot and did not want to overwork them. We even got a little spectacle of them training a new youngster after our experience. The park itself was well run with nice friendly staff and animals that appeared comfortable and well looked after. They were very interactive and the experience of feeding the animals was nice. Some of them were even just roaming around the Zoo, posing no threat to anyone but being inquisitive and friendly and also wanting food. We did not see any animal that looked neither undernourished or over nourished contrary to some reviews we read. The giraffes, birds of paradise and billy goats were among the most memorable due to their cheeky characters. The white cockatoo was very entertaining and was whistling along mimicking us and making his own tunes up too as well as having a good old fuss. The water park was a little overcrowded but it was the hottest day we'd experienced at 36 degrees. Everyone was polite however and the life guards were fair in letting everyone has their turn and managing the park safely. We did not eat in the cafe apart from a packet of crisps so cannot comment on the food unfortunately but it did look clean and prices were mid range. Our travel included getting a bus from Alicante bus depot to San Palo then a taxi from there which all in all was about 32 Euros. Overall and amazing all day experience with good staff and plenty to do. Try it and enjoy. Definitely recommend the Sealion experience. Only negative is the website says to call and book in advance however when ringing you get an automated voice giving opening times and then it cuts off. This is true for both the English and Spanish speaking phone lines.

The animals were in small enclosures and didn’t look to be kept well at all. The crocodiles had dirt and algae all over the very small puddles of water they were in. The one seal we saw was in a pool around 6” x 6” shocking!? The water park section was better and better looked after ham the animals. Very expensive for what it was tbh.

Snorkel safari with Jake 27th August

Fantastic day with our guide Jake. From the start Jake and his team were very friendly and informative. Having not snorkeled for a long time Jake was encouraging and put you at ease. My 2 teenage kids had a brilliant time and were able to take photos of the beautiful fish and lucky enough to see an octopus. I would definitely recommend this trip.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. We are really happy that you had such a good time. Your comments will be passed on to Jake. From all the team, thank you very much.

Had an amazing time diving thanks to these guys. I did the one day discover scuba diving which consisted of 2 fantastic dives. Gary was brilliant and took his time to explain everything to us. As this was my first time diving I was a bit nervous but Gary took away all the nervousness within seconds. Would definitely recommend this to any one wanting to try scuba diving and will 1000000% be coming back to do it again!

Hey Mike, we're over the moon that you had such a great time and we can't wait for you to be back. You have to get a full license to dive as you were awesome considering it was your first ever go. Thanks a million for writing such a glowing review. See you soon :-)

Just returned from spending another fantastic week with the lovely gang at Dive Academy. I've been diving here for over a year and never a dull day. The team are so welcoming, the instructors and staff are very patient and knowledgeable. There are loads of great and varied dive sites within reach of the centre. If you just want to do some fun dives or if you are thinking about taking your diving to the next level this is the best place by far in the Alicante area...

Hey Jennie, we're all missing you like crazy. Cannot wait for you to be back here in only a few weeks. We have to get back to El Campello and see more amazing things. Them Jellies were awsome. Thank you so much for writing this review, it really means a lot. Take care and see you very soon :-)

We had a brilliant day...James and friend loved every minute...very informative...and enjoyable...definately a 5 star day out.

Thank you so much for your review. We are so glad that you had such a good time. Anytime you are back in the area, we would love to do it all again. Maybe next time scuba diving could be on the cards :-)

My girlfriend and I stayed near Santa Pola for 2 weeks this summer and visited a different attraction or day out each day. The Santa Pola Dive Academy was by far the highlight of our hugely enjoyable stay. I had tried to fast-track my partner through the referral course to do open water diving in the UK so that she could dive abroad, with me. We had serious difficulty with the UK dive centre who were uncooperative and put us off diving slightly. The Santa Pola dive academy where the polar opposite and not only did they resolve the issue with the UK dive academy but they gave us a discount on the course as compensation for our poor experience – despite the fact that it was ENTIRELY not their fault! The staff we met where hugely welcoming and are fuelled by a passion for diving, bringing out the best in people. We started with the snorkel safari with Jake which was a fantastic experience on the island of Tabaraca – a marine reserve. It was after chatting to Jake at lunchtime that we found doing the open water diver course abroad would still be a possibility. We were then put in the capable hands of Wayne, Gary and Dave who made the experience of learning to dive safe, sociable and fun from there on. We dived in two beautiful locations and saw some beautiful marine life. We left Spain with a real buzz about diving and would like to offer the whole team our greatest thanks and we will hopefully be coming back to see you again sometime soon! An absolute 5 star establishment! Danny and Mel

Hey Danny, hey Mel, thank you so much for writing such an awesome review. We couldn't be any happier with the comments you have made. The best thing for us is that we now have 2 more fantastic people in the diving community that quite frankly, we could have lost due to your rough start. It was an absolute pleasure to help you guys resolve the issues you were having with your previous choice of dive center and it was an even greater pleasure to take you guys diving and to help Mel complete her course. We really do hope to see you guys again and next time we will make that meal out that we talked about... or maybe a BBQ at our place. Keep up the hard work with your studies and most of all..... keep diving :-) Once again, thanks a million from all the team.

Fantastic time snorkelling out at Tabarca Island with a most friendly, professional and informative team, from the dive academy..... My daughter and her pal, both 13 years old, were given endless confidence from the dive team , would highly recommend the snorkel safari to any one visiting the Santa Pola area.....All in All a day to remember. Really enjoyed chatting with you guys, and a cup of PG was spot on..... All the best for the future.

Hi Simon, thank you very much for the great review. We are over the moon that you all had a great time. If ever you are back in the area please come in and see us. The kettle will be on with the PG Tips waiting :-) - and of course, you have to come snorkeling again, or maybe even diving?
