Jungle Theme Party Games

safari themed games for adults

Hey it's a jungle out there, if your throwing a safari or jungle theme party you'll want to check out these jungle theme party games and decorations. My jungle party games offer a variety of options from simple and easy to elaborate D.I.Y. games that will take a little creative elbow grease from you, others are as easy as print and play.

Let's get this party started with some awesome jungle games!

safari themed games for adults

Safari Jungle Theme Party Games - Jungle Fruit Bop-

The children pass around the jungle fruit (balloons of different shape and size) while dancing to the music. When the music stops all the explorers grab a fruit and freeze. You then pull a child’s name out of the bag and that child must pop open their fruit and complete the jungle challenge inside. These challenges are simple and fun and geared to their age level. Some fun challenges can include:

  • Acting like a monkey, lion, snake, bear etc.. for 30 seconds.
  • Rub your tummy and pat your head at the same time.
  • Give a bear hug to the person standing next to you.
  • Sing your favorite song.
  • Stand on your head.
  • Stand on one foot and clap your hands.
  • Crabwalk across the floor.
  • Stuff a marshmallow in your mouth and sing your abc’s

Use your imagination when coming up with challenges and give prizes out for effort. Have twice as many balloons prepared as there are players. This ensures every child has a balloon when the music stops. Start with one balloon for every child then add one after every round.

After the challenge is completed that child receives a prize, and the game continues until all the children have received a prize. This fun jungle party game is always a hit.

Safari Jungle Theme Party Games - Catch a Tiger by it's tail-

Another game that will go great with your jungle/ safari theme is catch a tiger by his tail. It has all the fun of a piñata without the frustration! You (or another fun spirited adult) must play the tiger. You don’t have to wear a full tigers costume but you will need a tail. The guests must chase the tiger and, you guessed it, try to catch her by the tail. When she is caught she throws out candy and escapes again while all the children are collecting scooping it up. Then the chase is on again! This game continues until all the candy is gone. To make a tail you can use something as simple as a scrap of cloth or rope tied around your waist with a long piece hanging down the back.

Safari Jungle Theme Party Games -Jungle Obstacle Course -

In this jungle game the children must make it through our Jungle obstacle course to save the baby animals and return them to their mother. You can create obstacle out of so many things. You can even put mini games into the course. Here are just a few ideas:

  • Running through hula hoops
  • Jumping on a pile of cushions or pillows ( a great finale)
  • Limbo limbo limbo!
  • Feed the hippo ( use toy balls for the food and a bucket or basket for the hippo )
  • Pop a balloon
  • Make it through the quicksand ( make rocks from cheap metal bowls from the dollar store or even cut from poster board). They must step on the rocks avoiding the quicksand (ground) to get to the next obstacle
  • Climb through a hallow log ( perfect if you have, or can borrow a play tunnel)
  • Swing from vines (ropes hanging from tree)

Safari Jungle Theme Party Games -Animals in the wild Treasure Hunt -

Safari jungle theme party games - lilypad relay -.

For this safari game you’ll need four lily pads, two for each team. You can make these out of green poster board. Divide the players into two teams. One person from each team goes at a time. They must use their lily pads to make it to the finish line and back without touching the ground.

safari themed games for adults

They do this by hopping on one lily pad the putting the other in front of them and hopping on that. When they return to the start they pass the lily pads to the next player. The team that finishes first wins.

If you’d rather not play with winners, simply let each child collect a small prize or piece of candy after finishing their turn.

Safari Jungle Theme Party Games - Get the Snakes -

safari themed games for adults

Baby hippo wants to play in the water hole but she’s too afraid because of all the snakes! In this jungle party game the little explorers help her out by using craft sticks to remove the toy snakes from the water hole (kiddie pool filled with shredded paper) and into the snake keeper (basket).

Each child receives two craft sticks that they use to pick up with snakes with. The children work as a team to get them all out.

safari themed games for adults

In our printable snake scavenger hunt each player is assigned a snake card and must search through the party area to find the four hidden snake fact cards that go with their snake ( it is color coordinated so players know which facts go with which snake).  Each one of the facts has a piece of a puzzle on the back.

When they put the four pieces together it will form a letter.  Once all players have put their puzzles together they can then put the letters together to reveal the secret hiding location of the treasure or prize.

Safari Jungle Theme Party Games - Safari Animal Hunt -

For this safari party game you’ll need to print out pictures of many different animals and their animal babies and glue them on index cards. Divide the baby animals among all the players and hide the mommy animals throughout the playing area. The children must help find the mommy animal for every baby animal card they have.

Safari Jungle Theme Party Games - Jungle Parade -

The children march to the music across jungle animal mats. Each mat has a picture of a different animal. When the music stops all the children have to stand on a mat and become whatever animal they landed on. To create mats just draw or print and paste pictures of animals on to poster board.

  • Decorate a plastic pith helmet with animal stickers
  • Decorate binoculars with stickers
  • Make binoculars (if you have adult helpers who can oversee this) by decorating toilet paper rolls and taping them together. Punch holes in the sides for yarn so the binoculars can hang around their necks.

Favorite Jungle Safari Party Animal Games

  • Note: Most of the games listed have to do with a specific jungle animal. Set these games up in different areas of your party space. Play up the theme by going “on safari” with your binoculars to look for the animal that is the focus of the each game.
  • Animal Hunt – Have a helper hide stuffed jungle animals, or little plastic animal figurines in the party area. On “Go”, the children must find the number that you specify (such as find 1, find 3, etc.) and bring them to you.
  • Animal Charades – Select one child to be “It” and stand up in front of the group. Tell “It” to think of an animal, and then act out what the animal does. The kids try to guess what animal it is. For young children, provide them with an idea of the animal.
  • Hot Animal – Play Hot potato, but with a stuffed jungle animal.
  • Bean Bag Toss – “Feed” bean bags to a tiger or other animal drawn on posterboard with a hole for their mouth.
  • Pin the Trunk on the Elephant – Draw an elephant on posterboard and make a “trunk” for each child to “pin” on the poster (use double stick tape).
  • Tiger, Tiger, Lion – played like Duck, Duck Goose, but use the words Tiger, Tiger, Lion instead!
  • Monkey See, Monkey Do – played like Follow the Leader. Select one child to be the monkey and either form a line behind this child or have him stand up in front of the group. The monkey will move around and all the children have to copy the actions.
  • Zoo Animal Tug of War - have a game of tug of war, with kids pretending to be differnt animals.
  • Lion, Lion, are you Hungry? - One person is the lion, and stands at one end of the yard. The kids are at the other end of the yard. The kids yell together, “Lion, Lion, are you hungry?” to which the Lion will say “No, not really, come closer”. The kids will all come a little closer and ask the question again. This happens over and over, until the Lion finally answers “Yes”! At this point he tries to catch as many children as possible and they become lions too. The game starts over, with the new lions on one side of the yard and the other kids at the other side of the yard.

A table set for a children’s birthday party with giraffe and lion figurines as centerpieces, green and orange balloons, and party hats at each place setting.

July 29, 2023

Does your little explorer spend all their time slashing through the dense jungle in the backyard with their pretend machete? Or maybe their room looks like a wildlife refuge with all their ferocious stuffed safari animals. If either of those descriptions sounds like your child, then we’ve got the perfect birthday party theme for you.

With a safari theme birthday party , your mini adventurer is guaranteed to have a ferociously good time while also showing off their love for nature. Keep reading for more safari theme party ideas than there are zebras on the savannah.

Plan a journey to the wilderness… or to the backyard

You know that a safari theme birthday party would be perfect for your little animal lover—but what exactly does the party planning look like? There are a ton of exciting options to make this next birthday a special one, both at home or out in the wild. Here are some ideas to add a bit of adventure to your safari birthday party.

1. Visit a local zoo or wildlife center

Zookeepers actually make great party hosts, especially when they bring some of their furry (or scaled) friends for each guest to take a look at. Plus, they often have party rooms you can rent out where the explorers can enjoy safari snacks on-site.

2. Create a backyard safari

In many places, it’s possible to hire an exotic animal handler who will visit your home with their menagerie. Your little adventurer will never forget the birthday they hung out with a boa constrictor!

3. Plan a wild dress code

For your safari theme party idea, encourage guests to show up in animal masks, animal prints, or full-on costumes of their favorite beasts.

Due to the *nature* of a safari theme birthday party, there’s a good chance that it includes some kind of outdoor element. But what if the weather isn’t cooperative? Hardy adventurers won’t let a little rain or snow stop them… but it might stop your birthday plans. Luckily, there are plenty of fun safari activities you can plan for indoors.

4. Put on a movie

There are so many fun animal movies to choose from. Might we suggest “Madagascar,” “The Lion King,” or “The Jungle Book”?

5. Play some games

Whether you’re playing Monkey in the Middle or Sleeping Lions , plan some fun kids’ birthday party games to have everyone feeling like a true party animal, indoors or out.

6. Create some safari crafts

With a few simple party supplies, you can set up a safari craft station where your young guests can make their own artistic safari animals.

Safari-themed party supplies are available at Paperless Post Party Shop .

Decorations for a wild safari party.

Whether you’re hosting at home or elsewhere, you’ll want the venue to give off serious jungle vibes for your safari-themed party. Seek out garlands and streamers that look like vines, and balloons in varying shades of greens and browns. Some other decoration options to consider include the following.

7. A fun garland to set the mood

Set the mood by inspiring guests to Party like an animal with this decorative garland , featuring an elephant wearing a party hat.

8. An animal-shaped pinata

Fill this cheeta party pinata from Paperless Post Party Shop with treats for the kids to enjoy.

9. Creature-shaped plates

From animal print plates to plates shaped like animals , themed plates help bring your safari theme to life.

10. Animal-inspired costumes

Get into the safari spirit with safari animal print party hats and lion masks .

11. Delightful safari-themed party favors

Thank your guests for a roarin’ good time by sending them home with safari print party bags filled with trinkets like temporary animal tattoos .

Feeding hungry safari explorers (aka partygoers)

Of course, a day spent exploring will leave your guests licking their chops and circling the birthday cake like it’s a water buffalo. So, what kind of food does one serve at a safari-themed birthday bash? Animals eat all kinds of things, but these explorers will probably have a taste for cakes and treats, above all else.

12. The birthday cake

Maybe it’s shaped like your child’s favorite jungle animal or decorated with a scene from the safari of their dreams. Also, some animal candles make the perfect topper.

13. Cupcake decorating kit

For desserts that can double as an activity, have your guests decorate cupcakes with animal-themed toppers .

14. Animal tail treats

We love this idea of decorating chocolate-covered pretzel rods to look like tiger tails!

15. Veggies… but shaped like a lion

For a healthy snack, you can make a safari-themed veggie tray by using a dip (like hummus or ranch) as a lion’s face and surrounding it with peppers and carrots to form a lion’s mane.

A child’s birthday party invitation with a boy’s photo in the center surrounded by safari animals including a lion, giraffe, zebra, hippo, crocodile, and more.

Wording for an adventurous invite

Once you’ve picked out your favorite safari-themed invites , it’s time to invite your child’s fellow adventurers with the perfect birthday invitations . If you’re more of a Tarzan than a Jane and have trouble choosing the right words, consider the below examples for your kids’ birthday invitations to get those creative juices flowing.

It is a good idea to create a party backdrop . This can easily be achieved using budget friendly plastic tablecloth’s in your chosen party colors.

Next create some tissue paper garlands to hang around the area and suddenly you already have the perfect jungle feel. Make some vines by twisting together brown craft paper. Add vine and palm leaves to them for extra effect.

Jungle Safari Themed Party Ideas

Kids Party Ideas and Themes |

Jungle / Safari Party Ideas & Themes A Jungle Party / Safari theme allows you to mix the idea of a nature, tribes, wild animals and adventure all together to create a fun party theme. One of the best parts of a Jungle party is that you can do so many parties from this one idea. Plus you can pick and choose what you want to include in your Jungle / Safari party.

Jungle Party

Jungle / Safari Costumes & Outfits Adventure Outfit: Khaki shorts, tan short sleeve shirt and jungle hat For the Safari Guide or an Archaeologist add a travel bag where you can store props, a canteen or tools If your guests are acting as tourist just ask them to dress anyway to enjoy the adventure

Jungle Theme Ideas / Safari Story Ideas  –  African Safari , this party theme is all about the animal. Spend time sharing facts about wild animals, ask them true or false questions about African animals and then set up an African Safari tour in the backyard or in a room where you have pictures, balloons or props of animals you would see on a Safari.

–  In Search of a Mystical Animal  – You and your team has set off deep into the Jungle to find an mystical animal that has been reported but never caught. You can decide whether this creature is a giant monkey, ape, lion, lizard or snake! Plant clues that your assists will find as you hike to areas where the creature has been seen. You can also set up, false leads too. In the end, you can have the team find the creature. It could be someone dressed in a costume, an inflatable animal or a true creature.

–  Archaeologist Dig  – Build your Jungle Theme around the search for lost ruins or treasure. Your party is set in the jungle and kids can have fun searching for fossils, tribal masks and artifacts in the jungle and then set off on a treasure hunt.

–  Train to be a Jungle Guide  – For this theme your guest have arrived in the Jungle to learn how to be a Jungle Guide, so they must learn about the land, animals, dangers and survival. So give the facts about the terrain, information of the animals on the plains, dangers like rhinos, crocodiles, lions, charger elephant and others, plus you need to address survival skills like where to find water and what plants and bugs they can eat. At the end of the party, perform a new Jungle Guide ceremony and pronounce them newly

Jungle Party Games and Activities 1. Learn about Wildlife Play:  Who Am I? Animal Game  using Jungle Animals Then after the game is complete, review who was what animal and share interesting facts about each animal.

2. Learn About Jungle Life Research a tribe or people who live in the Jungles of South America or Africa and tell them about how they live off the land. Then weave in tribal dances, music and customs that help they become part of the tribe. Activities could include face painting, dancing, drumming, making masks, eating regional food and sharing tribal stories around a fire.

If you do a mask activity, it is fun to note that some masks ward off spirits, others bring good luck and other represent the land and sky. Kids can then paint a mask for fun and a purpose. Once the masks are complete then you can do a tribal ceremony that includes the masks and a tribal dance (which you can call a happy dance) in celebration of a Birthday. (If you do this please have your Adventurer / Guide (host) make up a simple dance that all the kids can learn quickly.)

3. Archaeologist Discoveries / Treasure Hunt If you are doing an Archaeologist theme consider an activity revealing the findings of an archaeological dig. Items can include an arrowhead or spear used for hunting, a gold necklace worn during a special ceremony that bring the tribe good luck, a hat or headdress worn by the locals.

The goal of this is to build excitement for your junior archeologists as they head with you out into the jungle to find additional artifacts. This can lead you to several party activities: a. The kids go out and search for 1 artifact to bring back to base camp. Once all the Junior Archeologists have returned they will need to make up and share a story as to what the item is and what it was used for. When planning this activity make sure you include more hidden items then there are guests to make sure that everyone finds something.

b. Hide jungle and tribal artifacts around a room or outdoor area and give a list of the items to each Junior Archeologist. Then let them know they have 5 minutes to find the write where it is located. (For younger kids, we recomend you list the artifacts on one side and then possible matching answers on the other, to make more difficult be sure to include more answers then artifacts.) The guest with the most correct answers wins.

c. Artifact Treasure Hunt. Come up with a list of artifacts and give them a clue as to where the first one might be. Then once they find the next artifact it will then contain a clue to the next one. Each artifact should be more impressive then the last and last one should end with tribal treasure. This site will help you write  treasure hunt type clues  for your party.

d. Archaeologist Mystery / Treasure Hunt 2 – After showing them something in another area of the house, return to the treasure room / base camp (where other artifacts were) and walk in and pause. Oh my, hmmm, now I did put the gold necklace back in it’s place didn’t I? Most of the kids will say yes. Now continue, it has got to be here somewhere. Continue looking and also say it appears that some additional items that you were going to show them are missing too!

Oh no! It appears that someone has stolen the Golden Necklace and other Tribal Treasures! It looks like we are going to need search the jungle to find these treasures. Continue looking around and then stumble upon a clue.

Then you need to find a clue… Thanks for the treasure It suits me fine You’ll never find it Unless you can tell time

Now you must recruit the group to take on the challenge and become Adventurer’s who can search for the treasure. If the kids are young coach them to go to the clock and find the next clue. I recommend 8 – 12 clues. For help with writing  clues  try this site.

Another option is to discover a treasure map during the dig and let them find the clues that way. A little more preparation.

Just make sure you have all the clues set up in place for a Jungle Adventure treasure hunt and then at the end have the treasure. You may or may not want to include a bad guy being captured as part of the story. Make sure to include chocolate coins, beads and other fun items.

4. Animal Charades Create a list of animals found in the Jungle – Monkeys, Elephants, Hippos, Rhinos, Giraffes, Zebra and others then have the kids select an animal card and act it out while the other kids try to guess what it is. If you can’t come up with a lot of jungle animals the kids would know add some common ones so that each child gets at least one turn.

5. Animal Word Game List an Animal like Elephant or Hippopotamus and then see how many words the kids can make in 5 minutes by using those letter to form other words. Score words as follows 3 letter words = 1 point, 4 letter words = 2 points, 5 letter words = 3 points, 6 letter words = 4 points, 7 letter words = 5 points and 8 letter words and above = 8 points. The person with the most points wins.

6. Jungle Box –  Mystery Guess Game You can play this two ways: a. Place place jungle / safari animals in a box and kids are shown a card and must pull out that animal. Note: The kids cannot see inside the box but can only use there hand to feel around and find the correct animal in a limited amount of time, like 30 seconds. If they correctly pull out the animal they stay in the game and have a chance to be the Safari Guide. If they pull out the wrong animal then they are out of the game. Play until you have a winner and if everyone make if through a round then reduce the time they have to find the animal for the next round.

b. Place a variety of jungle and safari toy animals inside a box. Now give each guest a sheet of paper and 1 minutes to identify as many animals inside the box as possible. Correct answers count as 1 point, incorrect answers count as -1 point and the person with the most points wins. View Mystery Guess Game details here. (Note you will need to adjust game for your jungle theme)

How To Host a Wild and Fun Jungle Theme Party

Jungle theme party decoration

If you’re a party animal with an urge to host a jungle theme party, we’re with you. Visions of palm fronds, exotic birds, and tropical flowers dance across our imaginations, inspiring party ideas for a host of different events.

Whether you’re planning a jungle-inspired or safari-themed birthday party, baby shower, graduation , or other fun event, this guide will help you set the scene. You’ll also get some digital invitation inspiration that will have your guests going wild with excitement.

3 Steps to Hosting a Jungle Theme Party

Jungle theme party: Children standing on cake station

There’s a wide variety of options for a jungle theme party. You can opt for bright hues or baby animals in soft pastels to suit a baby’s first birthday party or select more elegant prints and party decor for a teen’s sweet 16 . You can also modify the jungle theme to suit a graduation party by hosting a jungle luau to honor the journey into the “concrete jungle.”

Whatever jungle or safari theme party you choose to host, here are some ideas ranging from animal-inspired decorations to tasty feasts you can serve up.

Go Wild With Decor

When it comes to the color scheme of a jungle theme party, animal print is king. Use animal motifs and colors like orange, green, and brown when decorating the event space. The jungle is also a bright and lively space, so hues like magenta and red can be peppered throughout the party decor — think orchids and hibiscus flowers that bloom in the jungle.

Here are some great jungle decor items to consider for your upcoming bash.

  • Balloon decorations: No event is complete (especially a safari theme birthday party) without party balloons! Look for animal balloons featuring tigers, elephants, monkeys, and other wild beasts. You can also opt for zebra stripe or animal print balloons. Display them around the event room, make a DIY balloon garland , and tie a few special latex balloons to the chair for the birthday boy or birthday girl.
  • Safari animal stickers: If your jungle-themed party is a kid’s event, get some animal stickers they can use to decorate cards or stick on each other. Giraffes, zebras, lions, and crocodiles are all great choices. For an even wilder atmosphere, look for animal stickers in vibrant colors or metallic designs that shimmer and shine.
  • Animal print tableware: Set the stage for a jungle-inspired meal with animal print tablecloths and animal table decorations. For easy clean-up and an easy design element, use paper plates, cups, and napkins featuring a safari theme. For a young child’s birthday party, consider plates featuring wild animal faces. For older kids or an adult safari party, look for jungle motifs like monstera or palm leaves and jungle animal prints, which can be more elegant.
  • Confetti: Never mind the clean-up. There’s something about confetti that makes a party even more fun. Sprinkle animal print confetti on the table or hand out party favor bags or goodie bags with party poppers packed with confetti.
  • Birthday banner or backdrop: If you’re hosting a jungle birthday party or baby shower, draw attention to the guest of honor with an animal-inspired backdrop. Hang an animal print on the wall, use wild animal wall stickers, or make a balloon arch with green, orange, and brown balloons. You can even find large safari wall stickers on Etsy and Amazon that the mother-to-be or birthday kiddo can repurpose in the nursery or bedroom.
  • Photo Booth: Capture memories of the day and relive the fun of your jungle theme party with a photo booth. Set up a themed backdrop and have plenty of photo props such as animal cutouts, animal face masks, safari hats, and animal print glasses.
  • Live animals: This may be over the top, but live animals are the ultimate VIPs when planning a safari zoo party. Some party planning companies offer exotic animals like camels for large events while others offer horse rides. You can even consider a virtual experience with companies like Dave’s Jungle , which offers virtual live animal and reptile shows. Alternatively, you can take the party to the zoo or a wildlife learning center where you can get up close and personal with incredible creatures.

Get Dressed Up in Costume

If you’re hosting an animal party, consider asking guests to don their wildest attire. Whether you’re going all-out with costumes or simply suggesting wild prints, dressing up is always a fun idea. You can also offer animal party hats to make dressing up easy.

You can find animal costumes in adult and kid sizes, including fleece options, which are great for those cold-climate celebrations. If you’re looking for something more elegant, ask guests to sport their best animal prints. From zebra high heeled shoes to leopard print shirts, there are great options for safari theme parties that are more upscale in nature.

For the more laid-back Safari Steves and Sallys out there, khakis, linen pants, and bush jackets — basically the staple items for safari attire — are a surefire way to get in the spirit of the theme.

Fun and Filling Food Ideas

Jungle theme party cupcakes

The food you choose should match your jungle party theme. If you’re hosting a whimsical safari baby shower, delicate cupcakes with mint green frosting are a great choice. Don’t forget to add animal-themed cupcake toppers such as sweet blue elephants or pink lionesses for a festive look.

If you’re hosting a child’s birthday party, you can serve a larger meal to keep the ravenous wild animals content while playing with their friends. Get creative with a cheese and salami platter in the shape of a lion’s mane or cut up a sub sandwich and lay it out on the table like a snake. If you want to create a more substantial meal, grab a bag of zoo pasta with animal noodles.

For easy snacking, set out bowls of pretzels — label them as jungle logs — and peanuts that you can call elephant snacks. A bowl of bananas can be presented as monkey treats and gummy snakes fit right in with the jungle theme.

Don’t forget to set up a spot where guests can quench their thirst. For an adult party, serve up jungle cocktails or jungle juice using ingredients like rum, lime juice, and pineapples. For kid parties, offer lemonade or other alcohol-free drinks in jungle-themed cups.

If you’re hosting a birthday party, put some thought into a safari birthday cake . You can order a sheet cake featuring various jungle animals or find a simple cupcake recipe and decorate it with animal crackers as cupcake cake toppers. If you want a more elegant cake topper, paint miniature animal figurines in non-toxic gold and place them on the top of the cupcakes.

Safari Party Ideas And Party Decorations

Safari Decorations

Create an exciting jungle adventure decor in your own living room or party space! From party palm leaves, botanical garlands, and green tissue streamers to exotic party decorations and jungle backdrop scene setters. Take a walk on the wild side and create an immersive jungle safari experience guaranteed to make your children roar with excitement at the party!

Wild Adventure

Safari Decor Ideas

When it comes to putting together a jungle-themed party, an animal print will always reign supreme. Colors for decorations should be bright and joyful, such as orange, purple, magenta, green, royal blue, and red. If you wish to use flowers in your party decoration, wildflowers such as hibiscus blossoms, sunflowers, and orchids should be the priority.  Animal-themed cutlery, such as party bear-printed napkins, party giraffe-printed cups, and party tiger-printed tablecloths, can be used to give the entire décor a jungle feel.

Get Wild Costumes

Animal Print Costume

You should ask your invited friends to dress up in their most exotic jungle-themed outfits for the party.  It will be a lot of fun. It will be even more enjoyable if you greet your guests with safari party animal-printed and shaped hats.

Linen pants, khakis, and a bush jacket can be worn to the party. Anything that goes with the safari theme will work. With visitors dressed in vivid safari exotic clothes, the celebration will be more exciting.

Safari Party Food

Jungle Themed Food

Foods for a jungle-themed party should also be decorated differently with the overall theme. Cupcakes with mint green frosting are ideal for any such celebration. Safari Cupcakes decorated in the shape of a pink lioness or blue elephants will go well with the theme. Treats for the occasion may include pretzels with jungle log labels and peanuts as animal snacks. Safari Monkey goodies can be served with a bowl of fresh bananas and gummy snakes on the sides of the bowel.

Make your event flavorful and Delicious

You should also set up an area with a variety of flavored, colorful soft drinks. You can provide safari jungle juice or cocktails as drinks at adult events, such as lime juice, rum, and pineapple slices. However, alcohol-free soft drinks and lemonades should be served to children.

Jungle Snacks

You can also customize your food and give each of them a Jungle name:

  • Safari Jungle Juice – Any fruit punch colored red or green
  • Snake Eggs – Cooked and cooled hard-boiled eggs.
  • Lion Burgers – Huge hamburgers
  • Safari Cub Sandwiches – Mini club sandwiches with the kid’s favorite fillings
  • Snake Straws – Homemade cheesy straws twisted into wiggly shapes
  • Animal Safari Cup Cakes – Make Cupcakes and decorate them with icing or edible animal decorations
  • Animal Safari Cookies – Use animal cookie cutters to make biscuits and decorate them with colored icing.
  • Safari Parrot Lollies – Make multi-colored Ice Pops using different colored fruit juices. Great for cooling down those jungle explorers

Let the Safari Jungle Party Fun Begins!

Safari games and activities.

Fun Jungle Party

An interactive idea for keeping children busy and playful simultaneously is safari fun activities. Engage your little ones in activities like playing with hula hoops, sack races, and sorting similar objects or animal charades. You can tailor the activities to suit your theme, age group, or event type.

Jungle Party Animal Hunt

Have a helper hide stuffed jungle animals or little plastic animal figurines in the party area. On “Go”, the children must find the number that you specify (such as find 1, find 3, etc.) and bring them to you.

Bean Bag Toss

“Feed” bean bags to a tiger or other safari animal drawn on posterboard with a hole for their mouth.

Tiger, Tiger, Lion

Played like Duck, and Duck Goose, but use the words Tiger, Tiger, Lion instead!

Zoo Animal Tug of War

Have a game of tug of war, with kids pretending to be different animals.

Animal Charades

Select one child to be “It” and stand up in front of the group. Tell “It” to think of an animal, and then act out what the animal does. The kids try to guess what animal it is. For young children, provide them with an idea of the animal.

Park venue safari themed birthday party idea

Having the safari themed birthday outside just makes sense, so take the party to the park! Visit your local park that has plenty of tables, a pavilion, and a play area to celebrate the guest of honor. The park is also the perfect location so guests have ample space to run around and play.

Backyard venue safari themed birthday party idea

You can never go wrong by hosting your child’s birthday party in your own backyard with the fresh air and sunlight. Sometimes the comfort of your own home makes the best party venue for everyone. Spend the day outside and easily transition the get-together inside depending on the weather.

Mini jeeps safari themed birthday party idea

You’ll need some sort of transportation for this safari adventure! Charge up your child’s mini trucks and cars, or shop safari vehicles on Amazon for guests to drive around the yard in. Block off an area with plenty of space so parents can keep an eye on the little ones.

Animal Charades

Animal charades safari themed birthday party idea

Put everyone’s acting skills to the test! A few rounds of animal charades is the perfect activity for this safari themed birthday party. Write various safari animals on a piece of paper for guests to randomly choose and act out. Their friends will have a ton of fun guessing and laughing about what animal they are.

Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunt safari themed birthday party idea

Send the little explorers on a safari themed expedition during the party. Break everyone into groups, give them riddles to solve, and watch as they follow along to find the prize. You can keep this activity safari themed, but any type of scavenger hunt will work.

Outdoor Activities

Outdoor activities safari themed birthday party idea

Hosting your party outside means there will be plenty of space for all kinds of games and activities. Set up stations with things you probably already have like hula hoops, jump ropes, and other fun yard games that will keep everyone occupied.

Safari Theme Party Decorations

Get wild with these safari theme party decorations that will make this birthday extra special.

Balloons safari themed birthday party idea

Any birthday party, especially a kid’s, needs balloons! Balloons are one of the best decor options because they are fairly easy to purchase or even assemble yourself. For this safari theme, use various shades of brown, green, and orange, or any other color you might find in the wild. You can also get balloons shaped like typical safari animals to incorporate. Details like this will help bring the wild theme to life!

Pro tip: Hire an event planner through The Bash that is an expert in assembling unique balloon arrangements.

Stuffed Animals

Stuffed animals safari themed birthday party idea

The key for any event decor is to make use of things you might already have. Incorporate your child's stuffed animals throughout the space to capture the safari theme. Find jumbo size plush animals including tigers, giraffes, and elephants that everyone will want to get a picture with.

Tableware safari themed birthday party idea

One of the best places to incorporate themed decor for an outdoor party is on the tables. Whether you decide on multiple small tables or one large one, incorporate animal inspired tableware for guests to use. Shop animal print utensils , napkins, and tablecloths that will make the celebration pop.

For this safari, you can also use details like vines, pampas grass, and compasses for a wild dining experience.

Tents safari themed birthday party idea

Any experienced explorer most likely spends the majority of their time in a tent. Play into the safari theme by setting up tents in the outdoor space for a backdrop. Arrange a few blankets, pillows, and small activities like coloring books that will help keep everyone entertained.

Safari Theme Party Food and Drinks

Make sure there is plenty of fuel for the explorers at the safari themed birthday party.

Safari Themed Birthday Cake

Safari birthday cake safari themed birthday party idea

You’re going to want to incorporate the safari theme into every party detail, including the cake. Place an order from your favorite bakery ahead of time to ensure there will be plenty of sugary animals, fake vines, and other wild accents on the birthday cake.

Dinosaur Chicken Nuggets

Dinosaur chicken nuggets safari themed birthday party idea

Who says dinosaurs can’t be invited to the safari party? Chicken nuggets are one of the most loved kid’s foods that are easy to make because all you have to do is pop them in the oven! Serve with different sauces, french fries, and maybe some broccoli trees.

Trail mix safari themed birthday party idea

It’s important that a safari explorer keeps plenty of snacks on hand that are easy to travel with, for example, trail mix. Make your own by purchasing a variety of nuts, dried fruit, and small candies. You can also set up a trail mix bar including separate ingredients so guests can make their own take home bag.

Mud cups safari themed birthday party idea

This dessert is a delicious DIY treat! All you’ll need to do is add crushed Oreos, gummy worms, and candy rocks on the top of a pudding cup to look like mud. If you don’t prepare these beforehand, kids will love decorating and customizing their own.

Ants on a Log

Ants on a log safari themed birthday party idea

One of the best snacks for kids usually incorporates them being hiddenly healthy. Make a childhood classic of ants on a log that will help fuel the little explorers during the safari themed birthday party. All this classic entails is spreading peanut butter on a celery stick, and topping with raisins. This snack is easy to customize because you can easily swap the peanut butter with hummus in case of any allergies.

“Jungle Juice”

Jungle juice safari themed birthday party idea

Whip up a big batch of kid-friendly jungle juice to quench everyone’s thirst. Add any ingredients you want; fruit juice, Gatorade, fresh juice, soda, the possibilities are endless. Serve in a beverage dispenser with a spout so kids will be able to easily refill their canteens. For an adults only drink, try adding champagne for a delicious and fruity mimosa.

Animal Bubbles

Animal bubbles safari themed birthday party idea

Little kids love bubbles, so give them their own to play with! Find animal inspired bubble bottles on Amazon for guests to use during and after the party.

Animal Ears

Animal ears safari themed birthday party idea

Once the face painter turns the kids into their favorite animals, give them ears to match. Visit your local party store or place an online order for lion ears, tigers, giraffes, and more. Try to stock up on a variety so everyone can choose what animal they want to be.

1st Birthday Safari Theme Party: Wild One

Turning one year old is wild! That’s why “Wild One” is such a popular first birthday party theme. You can easily incorporate these same safari ideas into this milestone occasion, but you’re not going to want to forget these details.

Wild one smash cake safari themed birthday party idea

If you’ve seen kiddos go wild and destroy their gorgeous birthday cake, that’s exactly why smash cakes have become popular. Smash cakes are typically a smaller, homemade cake specially made for the guest of honor. After the proud parents help blow out the candle, let the one year old celebrate their special day with their own cake. It’s completely up to them if they play with it or eat it, but this way it saves plenty of birthday cake for the other guests to enjoy.

Photographer

Photographer safari themed birthday party idea

A first birthday only happens once, so you’re going to want to remember it forever. Hire a photographer to capture every detail: the decor, the cake, and of course all the smiling faces in attendance! Miss no photo opportunity with our helpful 1st birthday picture list for ideas.

Photo Backdrop

Photo backdrop safari themed birthday party idea

You’re only going to be able to host a “wild one” themed birthday for your baby once, so make a photo backdrop for plenty of pictures. Create your own using a safari background, plush animals, and a big metallic “1” balloon. This backdrop will also act as a focal point in the party space.

The main event was the animal show from Reptacular Animals . If you live in the Los Angeles area I would highly recommend them. They were wonderful! We had 15 mixed animals from snakes to chinchillas to scorpions. We moved some outdoor furniture in the shade of a tree and draped a canvas on the ground for the kids to sit on.

After sitting for the animal show, it was time for the kids to get some wiggles out and hit this giant giraffe piñata!

If you are lucky enough to live near a Mexican party store, most will make whatever shape piñata you’d like. They’re always over sized and cheaper than any small piñatas found at chain party stores.

Coolest Birthday Game Ideas for a Safari Theme Party

Here’s an awesome collection of Safari birthday game ideas, perfect for throwing the coolest ever Safari party.

Elephant Race

This birthday game is hilarious! Divide all the kids into two teams, and have them line up. First kid bends at the waist, puts one arm in front of their face like an elephant’s trunk, and puts their other hand through their legs toward the person behind them.

The next kid bends over, grabs the first kid’s “tail” with their “trunk”, then extends their “tail” through their legs, and so on until you have two teams of “elephants”, lined up and ready to go. Then have a race (you can do this a couple of times to let other kids be the elephant leader).

Monkey See Monkey Do

This game is similar to the classic “Simon says”, only with a safari theme party twist. Give the kids commands to make animal sounds or move like animals. For example: Monkey says, “Swing your trunk like an elephant.” Monkey says, “Run like a Cheetah.” “Squeal like a monkey!” and so on.

Animal Charades

Have the kids prepare animal index cards during the icebreaker activities and use them for this game. Each kid gets a turn to pick a card. Then they must act out their creature (no words are allowed, but animal noises are encouraged) until the others shout out the animal and then everyone has to act out the same animal together. Get the adults to play this one. This party activity usually produces lots of laughs (and other interesting noises…)

Elephant Peanut Race

Mark a start and finish line. Then line the kids side by side at the starting point and place a peanut on the starting line in front of each kid. The object of the game is to see who can push the peanut to the finish line first… Easy? Oh, I forget to say that they can only use their noses! (and please don’t forget to video-tape!)

Pinata Hunt

Here’s another great birthday game… You can have the kids dress in their safari khakis, including pith helmets and binoculars, and go out on a hunting expedition to find candy-filled Lions or Zebras hanging from the branches…

Animal Family Safari Group

Submitted by namita from melbourne, australia.

This is for a big group, kids as well as parents. Make animal family notes, like Mr. Lion, Mrs. Lion and Baby Lion (each written on its own note); Mr. Elephant, Mrs. Elephant and baby Elephant, and so on and so forth for as many participants in the game. Distribute the notes to all such that they are folded and no one knows what they have got. One person is the Game Monitor. As soon as he/she indicates, everyone opens their note. Now they start making the noise of that particular animal that he/she has got. So they roar or bark, etc and do no talking.

The aim is that they should form families. So Mr. Lion, Mrs. Lion and Baby Lion should identify their family from the crowd only by the roaring. As soon as the family is formed, they should run to the designated area and ring a bell or bang the gong. The family which is able to group together first is the winner.

This game is a big hit in large groups as there is a lot of commotion, confusion and noise which is the fun part. You can have animals and birds together or make bigger families by including Grandpa Animal, Grandma Animal, etc. But more the animals and smaller the families the better.

Guess Your Animal Game

Tape a paper with a picture or name of an animal on the kids’ (and parents’) back. The kids have to ask “Yes” and “No” questions until they find out what their animal is.

Giraffe Stretch

For this birthday game, pair up the kids. Give them a doughnut on a string and have one of them tie it around their waist so it hangs down reaching somewhere around their knees. Have their counterpart lie face up just beneath the hanging doughnut. Now, with only crouching and stretching (and no hands allowed) lets see who finishes the doughnut first. You can also have the doughnut hanging from a branch so that the kids have to stand on their tiptoes to reach it.

Unshelled Peanut Hunt

Hide many unshelled peanuts all around your house and yard and tell the kids that they all are elephants who are looking for their peanuts. Give each kid a bucket or cup for the peanuts and have them walk around with their hands dangling like trunks. The winner is the elephant with the most peanuts and best posture, but it’s not over yet… The next game is a continuation of this one…

Peanut Eating Contest

The winner of the last game is the one with the most peanuts. Now, have the kids place the peanuts on the ground (or a table) in front of them and without using their hands, let’s see who can peel and eat all their peanuts and finish first. Usually here, the kid who found the least peanuts in the last game has the most chances to win this game.

Animal Hunt

Basically you get a big bag of plastic animals and hide them around the house. The kids can then put on their safari hats and binoculars and go hunt for animals. At the end of the hunt the kids then count there animals and the winners go in order of who has the most plastic animals. There is a prize for each place.

Roaring Contest

This birthday game is pretty simple and if the kids get into it, it’s lots of fun. Each kid roars his best lion roar and the best roars win awards (one for loudest, one for most scary, most original, etc.).

Animal Jell-O Eating Contest

This contest gives the kids a way to show their animal instincts!! Make a bowl of Jell-O for each kid. Label each bowl with a wild animal, such as a lion, tiger, hippo, rhino, zebra, giraffe, etc. Lay a protective covering on the ground (or have this contest outside because it gets REAL messy!) and line the bowls up. Throughout the game, each kid must keep their hands on the ground beside their bowl. When the command is given to start, all contestants start eating their Jell-O without using their hands. The first animal to clean his or her bowl wins!

Musical Animals Safari Birthday Game

Submitted by kelly f. from australia.

We had 40 children at my son’s animal party so we came up with this version of musical chairs. Outside make a ring (size is depending on how many children you have there). In the middle of the ring add toy animals (the little kind you get in toy shops). At the start add one for every child so no one feels left out, than as you have each child taken out of the game, take one animal out etc. You can play so that whoever leaves the circle gets a small prize (maybe the plastic animal), and that way they don’t feel so bad when they leave the game. We also had fun animal songs playing for the music, kids had a ball and so did I (didn’t need to use big bulky chairs!).

Rock Safari Souvenir Activity

Have the kids go out and find any kind of flat rock/s (flat enough that they can glue things to it. You can also have these rocks ready before the party so that the kids don’t need to look for flat rocks). Then get stamps, stickers, googly eyes, etc. and let the kids decorate their rocks. When they’re done decorating their rocks, they can take them home as a souvenir from the safari party.

Best Jungle Party Games For Kids

Ready to get wild with some jungle party games? Celebrate like an animal with these fun ideas that are easy to plan and pull together for a party that will cause a roar. With these adventurous jungle theme party games, your guests may cause a stampede to be a part of your tribe!

Safari jungle party games are perfect for kids of all ages and can be easily tailored to whatever level of energy and excitement you want for your party. They are the best games for toddlers and younger kids but can also be tailored toward tweens and teens with just a few animal adaptions.

What is the difference between Jungle and Safari?

The difference between a jungle and a safari is primarily the environment. A jungle would be a lush green space often humid and with water. A safari would be a landscape that is often dry similar to a desert. Often a jungle is attached to tropical regions like South America and a Safari would frequently be used for dry environments like Africa.

Due to different locations and opposite climates, jungle, and safari animals are not the same. Just to name a few, safari animals include a lion, an elephant, a cheetah, a zebra, a rhino, a giraffe, an ostrich and a leopard. Alternatively, jungle animals might include monkeys, snakes, exotic birds, tigers, jaguars, and crocodiles. Animals that might overlap both environments are crocs, cheetahs, and elephants.

When planning an animal party it’s very easy to overlap safari theme party games with jungle theme party games. Luckily both include wild animals (pun in tented – meaning both your guests and the animals).

Safari Party Games

If you’re looking for some classic party games with a wild twist, try a few rounds of musical chairs set to jungle-themed music or have an animal treasure hunt where the prizes are hidden around the yard or park. Both are easy party games and honestly toddlers would love it but teens would also love both! I could just see them fighting over that last chair.

For a more active party, set up a jungle obstacle course with if you have the space or play some fun animal charades. No matter what games you choose, make sure to have plenty of prizes on hand for the winners! It can be a small prize like a piece of candy or animal-themed party favor.

Jungle Theme Party Games

If you want to go all out with a jungle theme party, then you’ll need some games that fit the bill. A few ideas include a Jungle Scavenger Hunt, where guests have to find items on a list around the party area, or a game of Jungle Jeopardy, where teams compete to answer questions about jungle animals. Just make sure you answer in question form!

For a really fun and unique party, try setting up a photo booth with jungle-themed props and backdrops. Your guests will have a blast taking photos and you’ll have some great memories to look back on! In this theme, have everyone come in costume and vote on the best animal costume. This could be great for older kids.

Jungle birthday party games

Here is an awesome collection of j ungle birthday party games , perfect for throwing the coolest Safari party ever.

How about transforming your living room into a lush jungle for a birthday party? Or how about organizing a party surrounded by little explorers and wild animals like lions, zebras, giraffes and tigers in safari mode? We give you all our expert party tips to organize a crazy Jungle Party !

The jungle theme is THE trend of the moment. Indeed, this theme is neutral and appeals to both girls and boys, to the youngest and the oldest children. It is also rather easy to make and there is a multitude of accessories in the stores.

Jungle adventure games for birthday party

Discover our jungle and safari themed games to easily animate your birthday party. Easy to set up for parents and fun for kids.

Jungle Treasure Hunt

Brave explorers have discovered a very valuable manuscript that indicates the presence of a statuette with extraordinary power: to give eternal youth. The problem is that it is located somewhere in the heart of the Amazon jungle. Will you succeed in braving all the traps to find it? Turnkey game kit for about 1h30 of adventure.

Jungle scavenger hunt party game

Treasure hunt in the savannah

During a safari, our two young adventurers find themselves confronted with a very strange mystery. Zebras, giraffes, elephants… All the animals are present but one is missing! Indeed, the lions have all disappeared! Here is a treasure hunt in which children will have to understand what happened and find the missing lions. Game available in 4-5 and 6-7 years old .

Treasure hunt game for kids in the savannah

The jungle decoration

Now it’s time to set the scene…. in your living room! For a more real than natural jungle, you just have to hang some garlands of tropical paper leaves, bought or made by you. Green should predominate, so don’t be afraid to overdo it, but also add a few touches of color like orange or yellow to brighten up. Always in these same colors, some inflatable balloons will bring the festive touch. If you have a garden and the weather allows it, take advantage of it to install your theme.

Organize a jungle birthday party with our games

Elephant race.

This birthday game is really fun! Divide the kids into two teams. They will have to stand in a line. The first child bends forward at the waist, puts one arm in front of his face like an elephant’s trunk, and reaches between his legs toward the person behind him.

The next child bends over, grabs the first child’s “tail” with his or her “trunk,” then extends his or her “tail” through his or her legs, and so on until you have two teams of “elephants” lined up and ready to go. Then have a race (you can repeat the exercise several times to allow other children to be the leader of the elephants).

Which animal am I?

Divide the children into two groups. The first group whispers the wild animal they want to introduce. Together, the children imitate the animal by mimicking and reproducing its call. The second group plays the role of the audience and must guess which animal it is. A referee measures the time needed until the correct answer is given. After a few rounds, the groups change roles. The group that guesses all the animals the fastest wins (add up the respective times).

Materials: stopwatch (possibly on the smartphone), small prizes for the winners, e.g. small plastic animals or miniature Jeeps, animal masks to paint, etc.

Treasure hunt for kids

The musical animals

This is a version of musical chairs. Draw a circle (the size depends on the number of children present). In the middle of the circle, place stuffed animals or small figurines of jungle or savannah animals.

Turn on the music. The children will turn around the circle on the floor at a distance. They should not be right at the edge of the circle but 2 or 3 meters around it.

When the music stops, the children must run to try to catch an animal in the center of the circle. Always place one less animal than the number of children. Remove one animal each round. The last child wins the game.

Wake up the lazy lions: the most hilarious of all jungle birthday party games

A child plays a cub who wants to play. Everyone else acts as if they are tired adult lions. They lie on the ground, inert, and must not move. The cub wants to play and tries to wake up the other lions. He can do anything, but he is not allowed to touch them. When a lion moves, laughs or talks, he is awakened and helps the cub to wake up the rest of the pride. At the end, all the lions play together and are allowed to hop, howl or dance to fun music.

Materials: no materials needed, except perhaps blankets or floor mats, music to dance to (e.g., downloaded from smartphone connected to speakers).

Sweet Safari

Place candy around the room or garden. Give the children a hat and binoculars and ask them to hunt for lions, zebras and other jungle or savannah animals represented by candy. The one who brings in the most candy wins.

Escape games for kids

Tracking competition

Who is the most skilled and flexible tracker in the jungle? Stretch green or brown ribbons across a doorway, an entranceway, an entire room, or outside between shrubs and trees. The children must try to squeeze through the ribbons without touching or tearing them. Who will be the fastest, the trickiest or the most fun? Set the criteria for the game according to the age and ability of the children.

Materials: roll of crepe paper, strong tape (that sticks to the wall but does not peel off the paint) or string, scissors.

Instruction: remove the crepe paper from the package without unrolling it. Cut out strips about 5 cm wide, unroll them and attach them at the ends to two opposite walls. Create a difficult, but not impossible path to cross.

Monkey Dance: the most rhythmic of all jungle birthday party games

Inflate one balloon per participant. Draw a monkey or monkey face on it (models available on the Internet). Each child ties a balloon to his or her ankle with a string. A small monkey is attached to each child. The monkey dance can begin: while dancing to the lively music, the children try to catch the monkey of another child. The monkey is considered captured when the child has crushed another’s ball. Everyone tries to save their own monkey. The last child who still has an intact balloon wins.

Materials: one balloon per child, a black permanent pen to draw on the balloons. String and scissors. Lively ethnic music, e.g. downloaded from a smartphone connected to speakers.

Unshelled Peanut Hunt

Hide lots of unshelled peanuts around your house and yard and tell the children that they are all elephants looking for their peanuts. Give each child a bucket or cup for the peanuts and have them walk around with their hands dangling like trunks. The winner is the elephant with the most peanuts and the best posture, but it’s not over yet…

Brainteaser

Prepare pictures of jungle animals (examples: greeting cards, calendar pictures, etc.) and cut them into two or three pieces with serrated scissors. Give one puzzle piece to each child and hide the other pieces. Each child must find their missing pieces to form their jigsaw puzzle.

Police investigation for kids

Animal Family Safari/ jungle Group: the most fun of all birthday party games

This is a game for a large group. Prepare papers with animal families: Mr. Lion, Mrs. Lion, and Baby Lion, and so on so that there are as many cards as there are participants. Distribute the papers to everyone so that they are folded and no one knows what they have received. One person is the game controller. As soon as he/she starts the game, everyone opens their paper and finds the animal on their card. They then begin to make the noise of the animal represented or written on their paper. They roar, bark, etc. but do not speak.

The goal is for them to form families. For example, Mr. Lion, Mrs. Lion and Baby Lion must identify their family in the crowd by roar alone. Once the family is formed, they must run to the designated area and ring a bell or hit the gong. The family that is able to get together first is the winner.

In the jungle, there are…

Have the children stand in a circle and each name a jungle animal (lion, zebra, elephant, giraffe, cheetah, gorilla, etc.). Stand in the center of the circle and toss a scarf in the air and say, “In the jungle there are…” (name an animal). The child named must pick up the scarf and throw it in the air in turn naming another animal.

The monkeys follow the gorilla

Form a single file with the gorilla in the lead. The gorilla makes movements and the monkeys must imitate them. Examples include: jumping, somersaulting, raising your arms, crawling, clapping, spinning, crawling on your stomach, etc.

Jungle Safari : the most adventurous of all birthday party games

Go on a jungle safari with the kids. Cut up brown paper bags to make adventurer jackets (you can even paint them with camouflage patterns), make binoculars out of toilet paper rolls, hide animals all over your room and go on safari!
