You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
It is said that travel broadens the mind.
What can we learn by travelling to other countries? Should we first explore our own countries?
Write at least 250 words.
Sample Answer: Travelling broadens our mind, enhances our knowledge and gives us unique first-hand experiences if it is done in a right way. To gain ideology of different cultures and to overcome the superstitions, travelling has no alternative. Every single day of travelling teaches us a different lesson, and we experience new things while we travel. So I quite agree that travelling to different places definitely broadens the mind.
Undoubtedly, travelling opens our mind in several ways; first of all, if it is done outside the country, the invaluable insights get developed in a person with the exposure of new ways of living, tradition, norms, regional belief, different perspectives and patriotism spirit. He also learns different languages, different expressions, posture and gesture of body language, which shows how this nation symbolizes the similar thing with different gesture. The outlook about life changes to some extent because of the absorption of different images, information and memory etc. The travellers also see the beauty of nature and feel relaxed, as it is commonly said that beauty of nature refreshes the mind. The travelers do not suffer from monotonous routine and they experience new things very frequently. Books are good source of knowledge but mostly theoretical while travelling offers practical knowledge and experiences.
Secondly, through travel a person learns about his own limitations, and realizes the new side of himself. He keeps his eyes open before taking any step because what he feels normal may be beyond the norms there. All these things made him more flexible and accustomed to new custom and traditions.
Finally, I agree that we should first explore our home country and then explore the world. Home country offers us the most important knowledge about learning our own tradition and customs. We need to learn and explore our own country first and then go out to explore other parts of the world.
In conclusion, travelling is an excellent activity, which boarded the mind with the exposure of different social events and occurrence. One can pass his knowledge and experience to next generation to overcome the superstition regarding, nations, races, and casts and travelling makes it possible.

It is said that travel broadens the mind. What can we learn by traveling to other countries? Should we first explore our own countries?
The dynamics of the world have changed largely with globalization. It is a common perception among the public that traveling around the world remarkably enhances the life experiences of travelers. They can learn about demographics, culture, tradition, religions, and many new places.
Undoubtedly, traveling to different countries provide practical new life experiences to people. They get to know about citizens of different countries and what norms and believes they follow which are unknown to travelers. Subsequently, they can learn many new things which can be used in their lifestyle to ameliorate their living. Yoga, for instance, was unknown in many countries until people visited China, Thailand, and Japan. People discovered and experienced new ways of exercise which became a trend in the world.
It is desirable for people to travel abroad while their own country is undiscovered to them which is more probably cheaper as compared to foreign trips. There are many rich cultural countries where local nationals can find new traditions and places to visit which are quite new to them. It would be at least in their budget and they can experience many things to fulfill the purpose of traveling. Rather illustrative examples are India and Pakistan where a large number of cultures can be found. It is much affordable for their citizens to travel inside the countries to explore new places rather than abroad.
The conclusion to be drawn is that people learn a lot about different regions and their cultures which provide amazing life experiences. It is much affordable for people to explore their own countries as there are many places which are unknown to them.

[IELTS task 2 essay] Should we first explore our own countries? Discuss?
OP sophie789 7 / 11 May 23, 2012 #3 Actually, I also thought about what you've said while writing. - What can we learn by travelling to other countries? ---> I answer this part in the second paragraph: " There are precious lessons that people would never get if they travel around their countries solely. " - Should we first explore our own countries---> I answer it in the conclusion: I take my own stance that foreign travel should take a back seat And about the reasons why i'm in favour of domestic travel first, I write in the first paragraph. I'm not sure it can be accepted with this structure but I still wrote like that. Thank you so much for your recomendations! I'll pay more attention to the structure as you said.
OP sophie789 7 / 11 May 23, 2012 #5 I knew that I had chosen wrong way when i read your comments, now i am rewriting my essay, thank you so much!
JCEstrada - / 1 May 24, 2012 #6 I have made a few notes of changes you might consider underlined below: Others, however, claim this allegation is flawed as there are many outstanding merits offered by foreign travel. My essay will analyse the advantages experience most of their lifetime I would use "overseas travel" and rethink "transnational" (maybe go with "foreign") On a personal note while I agree that travel in your own country is important there is nothing like traveling overseas to learn about yourself. I have a friend who learned English in a cheap school in Australia and said that he didn't learn nearly as much in 6 years of school as he did living abroad for three months.

Over the past few decades, the number of people travelling overseas and within their own countr ies has significantly increas ed . Currently, some people argue that youngsters should travel to international destinations before exploring their home town. While knowledge of totally different culture s is associated with roaming internationally, there are benefits to getting to know one's home country first . There are obvious reasons why people should travel inside their country first. The significant one is that people gain familiarity for travelling at a basic level. If the individual is travelling in his own country, then it would be easy for him to deal with the locals and get exposure to travelling. I believe that short trips can prepare the person mentally , which is useful in travelling globally. Secondly, people get the opportunity to understand their own culture and religion from its core. This knowledge is vital to differentiate cultures from different perspectives. It can possibl y let you down and make you feel embarrass ed in front of foreigners if you do not know your own culture . On the contrary, some people argue that people should travel globally first. According to them, people can experience the differences between their own country and others. Also they can introduce their country to foreigners. Moreover, it has great educational value because people can learn different language s and can indulge themselves in the varied culture s . In conclusion, although travelling to different nations has educational benefits, I personally prefer to explore my own country before travelling internationally .
