Foods to Eat in Bali

Alongside browsing through available Bali packages, make sure to also look into the exciting regional cuisine. One of the best experiences about visiting exotic places like Bali is the experience related to trying the local cuisines there. The amazing flavour made from blending local spices used through generations is all the reason to try local dishes in Balinese cafes and restaurants, leaving behind (at least for a while) the conventional food we all are so used to eating!

Here’s what you must try dishesh in Bali:

  • Fried/Smoked Duck
  • Local Ice cream
  • Barbeque Food
  • Jimbaran Seafood
  • Balinese Kopi

Fried/Smoked Duck:

Most menu cards will have Bebek Goreng (Fried Duck) or BebekBetutu (Smoked Duck) as their specialties. If you spot them, well, we are telling you, you must try them! Fried Duck is the conventional seasoned, boiled or steamed deep fried duck. Smoked Duck, on the other hand, is smoked for over 24 hours after being seasoned with local spices. Both are traditional Balinese dishes served with rice, vegetables and dips.

Local Ice cream:

If you thought Bali was just about beaches and swimming and temples, you thought wrong. Bali is also about food- particularly about ice cream! Get ready to spot several small gelatos or cafes that produce their very own, very Balinese ice cream. Once there, make sure you try their local flavours like the red dragon fruit, lemongrass or lychee! There’ll be no regrets, we assure you. Enjoy your dream vacation in Bali with your spouse by opting for the honeymoon special Bali trip packages on our website.

Barbeque Food:

Do you remember reading novels or watching movies where a group of friends just sit at the beach, around the fire and munch of barbequed snacks? Well, this can now very well be a scene out of your life, for the smell of charcoal-grilled meat is so tempting- something we must not ignore and indulge in! What makes Balinese barbeque food stand out from others is its seamless blend of sweet, savoury and slightly smoky taste with the perfect balance of meat and spices. So, make sure to try the Balinese barbecue food during your Bali tour.

Jimbaran Seafood:

This category of food is available at all the shacks along the Jimbaran beach. Cafes and shacks that specialize in Jimbaran seafood let their customers pick the sea food either from the a la carte menu or offer pre-set meals for more than two people.

Balinese Kopi:

What is even a vacation without some relaxing coffee? The Balinese Kopi, or coffee, is famous and for all the right reasons- it blends coffee grown in fertile volcanic lands. The stalls on main roads, or on beaches offer varieties of coffees- hot and cold. Let us handle the aspect of meals alongside accommodations, sightseeing, flights, etc., while you enjoy your dream vacation by going with Bali travel packages offered by Thomas Cook.

Things to Do in Bali

Bali, often referred to as the "Island of the Gods," is a mesmerizing destination known for its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and diverse range of activities. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or cultural immersion, Bali has something for everyone. Here's a list of things to do in Bali to make the most of your visit:

  • White Water Rafting in Ayung River
  • Surfing in Padang Padang and Kuta
  • Join a Balinese cooking class
  • Sunrise Trek to Mount Batur
  • Bathe in the Pura TirtaEmpul Temple
  • Museum hopping
  • Watch and enjoy a traditional dance
  • Explore the Artisans Village

White Water Rafting in Ayung River:

The Ayung River near Ubud is Bali’s longest and largest rapids. Just thinking about rafting in Ayung River is giving us the thrills! To add a big and red cherry on the cake, let us also tell you that the Ayung River is set in a beautiful backdrop of wild, unspoiled jungle, scenic rice fields and towering gorges. What you must expect from White Water Rafting in Ayung River is refreshing waterfalls, swirling foamy water, sudden drops and lots and lots of adrenaline rush! For the best adventure experience, opt for Bali packages that include these activities as standard attributes.

Surfing in Padang Padang and Kuta:

Can we really talk about beaches without talking about surfing? What an injustice it would be! Padang Padang Beach, in Bukit Peninsula (north-west coast) is one of the most famous surf spots of Bali and is visited by surfers from around the world. What’s more, Padang Padang is also host to international surfing events like Rip Curl Cup Padang.

For beginners, however, heading to the Kuta beach will be a safer and more enjoyable surfing experience. This beach has several surfing schools, too.

Join a Balinese cooking class:

Yes, this is as unusual for us as it would seem to you! But, believe it or not, as part of a Bali Tour Package, you can join a home cooking class where you will be taught by locals the secret of authentic Balinese cooking. These cooking classes are coupled with market tours to find fresh vegetables, aromatic spices and other ingredients.

Sunrise Trek to Mount Batur:

The sunrise view from Mount Batur is one of the most exquisite views in the entire region of Bali. An early morning trek up Mount Batur is famous just for the views. Since Mount Batur is one of the active volcanoes in Bali, your visit needs to be accompanied by a certified local guide. Bali tours are incomplete without going for this mesmerising trek, so make sure to go for this experience.

Bathe in the Pura TirtaEmpul Temple:

A national heritage site, the TirtaEmpul Temple in Manukaya Village is a temple dating back to 960 AD. This legendary temple has a sacred water spring which is said to have healing properties. The Pura TirtaEmpul Temple is frequented by tourists from across the world who come to take a bath in the blessed water. Get to enjoy similar delightful experiences by opting for Bali travel packages from our website.

Museum hopping:

Bali is not entirely about beaches. It is also about cultural sights like museums and galleries. The Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) is the place to go to explore the creative arts of Bali- it features Balinese architecture. Its creativity is heightened by its location- it is set amidst tropical gardens. The museum also hosts gamelan orchestras, woodcarvings, dance performances, history and indigenous fabrics. Museum visits are often included as a part of popular Bali packages.

Watch and enjoy a traditional dance:

One of the things to do in Bali is watch performances of Balinese dance forms such as Legong, Topeng, Kecak and Barong. These performances happen in multiple venues, one of which is the Ubud Palace where Balinese girls, dressed in traditional attire, dance to recite Hindu epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Explore the Artisans Village:

It is often said that the best way to explore a region is to explore its culture through its people. We agree with this, completely. And, what better way to explore a place’s culture than through its artists? Bali offers you trips and visits to its artisans’ villages where you can interact with and learn from the artisan’s crafts of great varieties. Celuk village is known for its silversmiths- here, you can not only shop for high-quality silver jewellery, but can also learn how to craft them. Batuan village in Ubud is another artisan village. This one is famous for traditional Balinese paintings. Here, you can get hands-on lessons on traditional Balinese art, wood carving and dancing.

Step out of your geographical boundaries and into this diverse land of relaxation, exploration and fun! Book your trip to Bali with offer through Thomas Cook India now, and give us the chance to make this vacation the vacation of your dreams!

Bali houses some of the world’s most beautiful and renowned beaches. So, when visiting this province of Indonesia, make sure to spend some quality time by the beachside with your partner, family members or friends. Following is a list of some of the most popular beaches you can add to your Bali tour itinerary;

Jimbaran Beach

Jimbaran Beach is one of the most well-known beaches you can check out during your Bali tour. It is a beautiful tourist landmark that features a wide number of luxurious beachfront resorts and restaurants. Stretching a total of 4 kilometres in length, this pristine white sand beach is located in South Bali, on the west end of the narrow stretch of land that connects Bukit Peninsula with mainland Bali. The serene ambience mixed with the sound of the gushing waves and the panoramic view of the ocean makes it a great spot to spend time during both the day and the evening. Most Bali tour packages have Jimbaran Beach included in their trip itinerary.

During your Bali tour, make sure to check out the renowned Kuta Beach. Located just a few kilometres from the Bali Airport, this beach is known for its remarkable beauty and also for offering some of the best sunset views in the region. It is also one of the busiest beaches in Bali, thanks to the availability of numerous budget-friendly beach clubs, food and accommodation options nearby. You can easily find Kuta Beach in the tour itinerary of most Bali trip packages. In addition to spending some time by the golden sand and appreciating the beauty of the surroundings, tourists can participate in a number of fun activities at Kuta Beach, which includes things like scuba diving, shopping at the night market, surfing, checking out nearby tourist landmarks, kite flying, experiencing the lively nightlife at the place, etc.

Nusa Dua Beach

Nusa Dua Beach in Bali is another prominent beach site that remains filled with tourists around the year. It is also sometimes referred to as an “all-inclusive beach” due to the presence of several amenities close by, such as hotels, markets and shopping malls, an 18-hole golf course, museums and other tourist attractions, etc. As for the beach itself, the white sand and the blue water make up for an astounding scenic view. It is also a great site for scuba diving due to its clear ocean water and the presence of beautiful corals and marine life nearby. Other fun things one can do at Nusa Dua Beach during your Bali tour include aquatic parasailing, boating, scuba diving, swimming, jet skiing, snorkelling, getting a traditional massage, etc. Consider looking for Bali tour packages that include this beach under its planned itinerary.

Seminyak Beach

Seminyak Beach is among the most notable beaches you can visit during your Bali tour. The beach is mainly known for its laid-back ambience, scenic beauty, and the availability of top luxury waterfront resorts/villas. Seminyak Beach is also a must-visit site for individuals who want to enjoy watersports, witness the beautiful sunset and engage in the vibrant nightlife of Bali. Fun activities that you can be a part of at Seminyak Beach in Bali include swimming in the bubbling cold water, exploring the shoreline on horseback, surfing on gigantic waves, enjoying a relaxing sunbathing session, etc. Have a wonderful time by the beachside with your loved one by going with our professionally designed Bali trip packages.

Popularly known as the “Land of Thousand Temples”, it is no wonder that this island is home to some of the most important and well-known religious shrines in the country. Here are some of the most popular temples that you can include in your Bali tour itinerary;

Uluwatu Temple

The Uluwatu temple is one of the best places to visit in Bali for religious tours. Nestled on top of a cliff, roughly 70 metres above sea level, this temple welcomes thousands of devotees and tourists on their Bali tours and travels. Locally known as “Pura Luhur Uluwatu”, the shrine is dedicated to the deity Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa as Rudra. Besides its religious significance and alluring surrounding beauty, one of the main highlights of this temple is the Kecak Dance Performance, which is based on the Ramayana and takes place every day between 6-7 P.M. on an adjacent cliff-top stage. You can easily find Bali tour packages that include a visit to this temple.

Pura Bratan Temple

Pura Bratan, or the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, is one of the most beautiful tourist places you can check out during your Bali tour. Located on the west of Lake Bratan in Bedugul, the Pura Ulun Danu Beratan is affiliated with Hinduism and features three shrines dedicated to Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva. The Pagoda-style temple architecture, a “floating” appearance due to the surrounding lake and the backdrop of the Bedugul mountains make this site one of the most beautiful religious landmarks in Bali. It is one of the most-visited tourist landmarks in the region, commonly found in popular Bali tour packages.

Located approximately 5 kilometres from the centre of Ubud, Goa Gajah is one of the most popular cultural and spiritual places to visit in Bali. Also called the “Elephant Cave”, Goa Gajah is a temple cave that features several intricate carvings and relics belonging to Buddhism and Shaivism. The temple complex is home to several attractions, such as the detailed cave entrance, an ancient pool, intricate stonework and relics, etc., all of which will leave you captivated. It is best to go for Bali tour packages that feature this site as a standard inclusion.

Taman Saraswati Temple

The Pura Taman Saraswati, also known as Ubud Water Palace, is one of the most significant religious landmarks you can visit during your Bali tour. Located at the heart of the Ubud town centre, it is a Balinese Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Saraswati. The Pura Taman Saraswati is known for its exceptional temple architecture. The massive temple complex houses a beautiful lotus pond and water garden, which are two main highlights of the site. Tourists can also check out the Cafe Lotus for some delicious snacks and witness traditional dance performances at this location.

Bali Currency

As this province is a part of Indonesia, the official Bali currency is also the Indonesian Rupiah. It is denoted by the symbol “Rp” and the currency code “IDR”. A single rupiah can be divided into 100 cents (locally called “sen”). In terms of coins, the denominations available are Rp50, Rp100, Rp200, Rp500 and Rp1000. As for banknotes, the denominations available are Rp1,000, Rp2,000, Rp5,000, Rp10,000, Rp20,000, Rp50,000 and Rp100,000. Currently, the value of 1 Indonesian Rupiah is equal to 0.0054 INR. As the Indonesian Rupiah is the only accepted currency in Bali, tourists visiting this Indonesian Province will need to acquire its official currency to make legitimate payments towards their purchases and used services during their stay. You can easily acquire foreign currency for your Bali tour (in both cash and forex travel card forms) by opting for the online foreign exchange services offered by Thomas Cook. To do so, you will need to visit the official forex page, choose the correct details (like preferred check rate, currency type and forex amount) and provide your contact details to get a quote. After that, you can proceed with the online payment option and select your preferred delivery type. Finally, after payment confirmation, you will receive your order receipt and the foreign currency for your Bali tour within the appointed time.

Best Time to Visit Bali from India

Favorable weather conditions make the holiday season unique. Each destination has its weather, which makes the vacation even more memorable.

The ideal time to visit Bali from India is between April and October. The weather will be a little dry with low humidity during these months. It is the best time to take a Bali holiday package, which consists of outdoor activities like temple hopping, water sports and adventures, and hiking through rice terraces and mountains in Bali.

July and August are the peak tourist season, as many traditional festivals and ceremonies take place during these months, such as:

  • Galungan and Kuningan: According to the Balinese Hindu calendar, Galungan and Kuningan festivals celebrate the victory of Dharma (good) over Adharma (evil).
  • Kecak Fire Dance: It is a Balinese dance performance that depicts scenes from the Ramayana epic, including the battle between Rama (Hindu God) and the evil king Ravana.
  • Usaba Kasa: It is also known as the 'Floating Temple Ceremony,' where villagers celebrate with miniature boats made from coconut leaves and flowers for prosperity and protection from the sea gods.
  • Nusa Penida Festival: This annual cultural event, held on the island of Nusa Penida, celebrates exceptional traditions, the arts, customary dance exhibitions, music shows, craftsmanship presentations, and culinary enjoyment.

IndiGo Airlines offers direct flights from Bangalore, India to Bali.

Conversely, Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, and AirAsia offer connecting flights to Denpasar from various Indian cities and are the cheapest way to reach Bali from India.

The average travel time from India to Bali is around 8 hours.

The layover time is between 2 to 25+ hours.

Tips for Cheaper Flights:

  • Book in Advance: Booking a few months in advance gives you a cheaper flight to Bali, Indonesia.
  • Sign Up for Alerts: Receive notifications from various airlines and websites to learn about price drops and get reasonable offers.
  • Consider Budget Airlines: Low-cost airlines usually charge less than high-cost airlines. So, if you are looking for cheaper flights, go for low-cost airlines.

  • Consider Alternate Airports: Taking flights with layovers is cheaper than taking direct flights.

Visa and Currency - You Must Know

Indians traveling to Bali have two options for a Visa: a Visa on Arrival or an eVisa.

Visa on Arrival: A visa-on-arrival facility is available for Indians. After reaching Bali, you must pay a visa fee of around 3000 INR. You can pay the visa fee in dollars or by international debit or credit card. You will get a 30-day tourist visa that is later extendable.

E-Visa: You can also opt for a eVisa. Visit this official website to get your e-visa beforehand.

Tourist Levy Fee: You should also pay a fee of approximately Rs.900 (INR).

Things to Note:

  • Visa regulations and requirements change over time. Before your trip, you must always check with the Indonesian embassy or visit the official website for updated visa information.
  • Booking a return flight and accommodation is mandatory before coming to Bali.
  • Custom Declaration is mandatory before leaving the airport.

Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is Bali's official currency.

(Rs.1 = 191 IDR) is the rough estimation based on the April 2024 currency exchange rate.

Though Indian currency exchange counters are available in Bali airports, tourist spots, banks and ATMs, it is difficult to exchange INR in airports.

Credit cards are widely accepted in popular tourist areas, but carrying cash in case of emergency is equally important.

Tips for INR Exchange:

  • Currency exchange counters in the airport do not accept Indian Rupees. So, carry US dollars or euros, which are easily accepted at the airport.
  • Remember that exchange rates and fees may apply when exchanging INR or using your card abroad. Compare exchange counters or bank rates to ensure you get the best deal.
  • Small shops and street vendors in local markets may only accept cash. So, keep the cash ready with you.

Best Bali Sightseeing for Indians

Did you guess the iconic landmarks correctly? We know travel enthusiasts must have guessed it right. So, let's learn more about these places to visit in Bali.

  • Bedugul Handara Gate: Would you believe me if I said this gate is the entrance of Handara Golf and Resort Bali? Yes, it is. You can visit this picturesque spot for photos even if you are not a golf enthusiast. This tall gate, with its intricate carvings, reflects Balinese architecture, and it is the most loved Instagrammable spot in Bali. Do you know what makes this spot more beautiful? It’s the backdrop of mountains in the central highland.
  • Ulun Danu Bratan: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a Hindu temple on the serene shores of Lake Bratan. It is also known as Pura Ulun Danu Bratan and is dedicated to Dewi Danu (Goddess of Water). There are not just one, two or three temples; there are nine shrines amidst gardens and forests. It is considered as the most sacred temple in Bali.

[Note: Dressing modestly is expected from international tourists inside the temple premises]

  • Tana Lot: Just imagine standing or sitting on a rock, getting the spiritual vibe and watching the sun go down. Isn't it the most beautiful sight? "Tanah Lot" refers to "Land in the Sea" in the Balinese. It is an ancient Hindu temple in a rock formation in the middle of the sea. Looking straight at the horizon during sunset is enough to make your day. This iconic spot is recommended during sunset because of the colorful sky, which adds the cherry on top to its beauty.
  • Uluwatu Temple: "Ulu" means “end of land," and "watu" means "rock" in the Balinese language. It is also known as Pura Luhur Uluwatu, which is dedicated to Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa in his manifestation as Rudra. It is 70 meters above the Indian Ocean. The most fascinating thing about this temple is that the Kecak Dance performance, based on the Ramayana, is performed here in Uluwatu temple from 6 pm.
  • Tirta Gangga: Indians are very familiar with the Ganga River. It is believed that one dive in the Ganga will remove all sins of people. Similarly, in Bali, Tirta Gangga refers to the holy water of the Ganges. It is a sacred water palace with many fountains, statues and pools. Also, this water palace has an 11-tiered fountain that cascades into a bathing pool. A small temple on the grounds is called the Patirthan temple. In Tirta Gangga, one can even swim in the bathing pool.
  • Mount Batur is a 1,717-meter-tall stratovolcano. Located at the center of two concentric calderas.
  • Taman Ayun Temple - Pura Taman Ayun means “Beautiful Garden Temple" . It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mengwi, Bali, Indonesia. The temple is surrounded by greenery and ponds. Jaba, the outer courtyard, is accessible to non-Hindus, while the inner temple is for only Hindus.
  • Lempuyang Temple: The full name of this temple is Pura Penataran Agung Lempuyang. It is one of the oldest temples on the island, 1,175 meters above sea level, making it quite a climb for visitors. Lempuyang Temple is known more because of the most popular spot, The Gates of Heaven, which has intricate carvings and towering statues of mythical creatures. When framed correctly in a photo, it creates an optical illusion where Mount Agung, Bali's most iconic volcano, appears directly behind the gates. This is why it's called the Gates of Heaven.
  • Bali Swing: The original Bali Swing is located in Gianyar Regency. It reaches heights of up to 78 meters above the ground. You can explore the amazing views of rice paddies and greenery. Aloha Ubud Swing, Alas Harum Swing, and Tegalalang Rice Terrace Swing are popular swings in different locations.
  • Tegalalang Rice Terrace is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Bali. Its lush green rice paddies just fill your heart. The centuries-old irrigation system is known as "Subak." It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can visit the local villages nearby to learn about this Subak system. Take your time and find the perfect spot to capture the beauty of the terraces.

Top 5 airlines flying to Bali

A 16 hour flight from Singapore to Los Angeles had only 2 meals. Please make it 3 meals.

A 16 hour flight from Singapore to Los Angeles had only 2 meals. It would be great to have 3 meals.

Once again the meal served was delicious - we got chicken rice

Good airlines, travelled 🧳 n Singapore multiple times and experience is consistent

Singapore Airlines from Mumbai was late, we were rerouted to Copenhagen and then to Los Angeles. As senior citizens, we should have been given a hotel voucher for a night and fly out the next day. I hope Singapore Airlines should give us a credit in good faith if they want us to fly with them. I doubt it, but you never know.

The flight was very late, sitting on the plane for over an hour and missed our connecting flight from Singapore to LA. As senior citizens, we were rerouted to Copenhagen and then to LA. They should not do this to senior citizens. They should have given us a hotel voucher for a night, then catch a flight to LA the next day. Singapore Airlines should grant us some kind of credit for the next trip, if they want us to fly with them. I doubt if we will ever hear from them.

I had to change a flight date and it cost me $800.00 dollars. In the past, if there was room on the flight(which there was), Singapore Airlines simply re-booked me. This might have occurred because the office in Bali where I could interface with a human face to face is now closed since COVID. I naively figured the ability to change my flight into my decision to go with Singapore Airlines as it does cost a bit more. I will still fly on them as they are superior to the other carriers by a fairly large margin, especially for my needs.

I was traveling with my 3 minor children, one leg I was seated two aisles behind them. On the longest leg I would have preferred sitting across the aisle from them, not behind. My youngest is 4yos. I understand airplane seating configurations are not the airlines problem but seating the one adult with a reservation apart from the minors was very difficult.

Crews are not allowed to perform any service whenever the captain deems there’s a chance of turbulence. Even if it is perfectly smooth air.

They ran out of food for breakfast They did not offer tea or coffee The staff appeared very inexperienced The cabin was very cold, even with a blanket

The flight was on time. I upgraded to Premium Economy and it was comfortable. The food was very good. Staff were courteous.

Flight was delayed but no announcements were made. Till the boarding it was still showing original schedule time at the monitor and also on your mobile app. It left the gate half hour later than scheduled.

It’s really very nice experience with very nice behaviour respected crews n all Vistara members thankyou so much Vistara to give us humble hospitality

My wife with 5 month son were traveling. No proper support was provided for luggage handling. Although it was requested in prior. My wife sole manage everything and was not as expected.

This was an old 320 without a screen or USB charging port even in the business class. The food could have been better.

a real good flying experince. Everything was excellent right from check-in to baggage collection at destination.

Food is tasting bad, and it is a fusion but not authentic.

Excellent experience and now my preferred airline. Even a fantastic meal with dessert in a 2 hour flight.

off late the crew and the air in the flight is becoming that of a budget airline not the earlier Vistara .

It wasn't clear from where to board flight international or domestic Airport

Worst checkin experience. Lot of delays. Checkin agents rude. Flight delayed. No regrets by the airline.

Level of service is definitely going down, cannot expect the same service as earlier

Crew was horrible. No greetings. Did not ask for any food. The crew seemed like they were forced on the flight against the wishes. Should be de-roastered.

Worst. Did not feel like it's an international flight.

Indigo attempts to make you pay for a seat during check in. I opted to not do this. The result - they allotted me and my minor son seats apart. In the interest of making maximum money, they seem to have lost common sense too. Similarly, even during the flight, the crew are busy trying to serve food to those who’ve already paid for it. By the time they’re done, it’s time to land and no one else is able to get anything. Sadly this seems to be what makes them profitable, customers just need to bear with it till a better airline comes along.

As usual invariably delayed Lots of time in getting chkd in baggage

Staff needs to be trained in managing customers better. Indigo appears to be a low cost airlines in all aspects.

Flight was delayed and also lots of mosquitoes on the flight

Two times the gate was changed and flight got delayed

INDIGO Never On Time & Always Prefer to Shuttle Passengers Like shuttle Corks

Boarding took forever. It's also weird that we paid more (for preferred seats) to get on the plane last. Inflight WiFi never worked the entire trip. I want my money back.

The cosmetic condition was pretty run down. The carpets were badly worn out. Even the paint on the wings was chipped and peeled! Looks like they are running these 787s to the ground..

WiFi didn’t work on both sectors so made killing time harder - planes clean modern and good flight crew - would do again if WiFi works

6hrs fly they dont give you a glass of water from seoul to singapore need to buy drink and food plus they charge for bag on international fly is always Free 1 bag from seoul to singapore is Not a local fly you are traveling true asia same story from singapore to Bali no water drink after payment for bag drink cost more the regular airline Well never use this company again we use regular company like Delta korea japan China and even scoot parent company Singapore Air

We had 2 attempts to land at Singapore Changing during a thunderstorm. Everything was delayed by 1 hour plus.

Boarding was not accordingly after front seat, bmf then back seat. This delayed for at least 40mins or more. The staff at Jakarta can do better. Is chaos at the entry to board the plane. This tarnished Scoot reputation when everyone was talking about it.

The crew was not customer oriented at all, even confrontational . The aircraft needs more attention to detail as far as comfort, and the 1 hour sitting at the gate with no air is inexcusable

We flew on the 787 Dreamliner direct to main gate at KLIA2, quick entry via eGate and on the train 41mins after touchdown. Go well SCOOT

Was on scoot plus. The only good thing about the flight was the spacious seats. Tables and armrests were extremely dirty Food: bad Entertainment: non existent Wifi: unable to connect, then was painfully slow that we couldn’t even send messages Good thing we had a night flight, so we just slept throughout.

Not clear why boarding passes could only be issued at the counter and not through the kiosk. I had already check-in on the web, so waiting to obtain a boarding pass 1.5 hours before the actual flight defeats the purpose of early web check-in.

Food quality deteriorated after Tata aquired the airline. No alcoholic drinks till last meal on a long haul 15 hour flight. Entertaiment systems needs a complete overhaul.

Entertainment screens were either broken nor did not work. Also seat back did not work. Definitely not comfortable journey

Non reclining seats on a 14 hour flight. Crew skipped drinks for my row at least twice.

Everything was bad and entertainment did not work and no landing cards and overall done with Air India

Too bad. Got too much trouble with security screening at New Delhi

only 3 meals in a 17 hr long flight. first meal after take off then nothing for 8hrs for people boarding at 2pm at orgin. you expect people to go without any food for 8 waking hours? there should have been 4 meals during a 17hr long flight. food quantity was also less. when asked for food the flight attended said they are about to begin food service then didnt do it for 2hours after saying that. terrible experience

The planes are dated and need upgrades. Seats are not comfortable and entertainment equipment doesn’t work

Direct Connection is the biggest advantages. Aircrafts are now better but food and beverages could be better and served more often in a ultra long flight

Poor behavior by ground staff in Mumbai. Very harassing. Initially they did not let me board with my little violin. They do not have the correct information. No concept of hospitality. The food on the flight was not good.

How Much Does a Bali Trip Cost? (Prices for 2024/2025)

When considering a Bali trip, you may want to know how much it would cost. Is it expensive?

Here is a breakdown of how much it costs for flights, hotels, transportation, sightseeing, food, and activities.

Is Bali Expensive?

  • Typical Costs for 1 Day, 1 Week, and 1 Month
  • Cost of International Flights to Bali
  • Cost of Eating and Drinking
  • The Cost of Transportation
  • Cost of Attractions/Activities
  • Tips for Saving Money

Bali is not an expensive destination compared to other vacation spots in Southeast Asia .

  • A private customized tour of the main attractions/activities in the south costs around US$120/person/day (2–4 people)*
  • A private volcano and hot spring tour or a rainforest discovery tour costs around US$200/person/day (2–4 people)*

* Private guide, car, and driver, attraction tickets, activities, and lunch included

It is a cost-effective island for a tour partly because most of the best beaches, surfing beaches, scenic terraced rice fields, and sightseeing landmarks are in the central and eastern parts of the island within about an hour from the airport and main hotel locations by private vehicle at times of low traffic, so transportation costs and trip lengths are kept low.

Some of the best snorkeling/diving areas are also within this 1-hour driving radius . Some others of the best beaches, diving areas, terraced fields and waterfalls/sightseeing/hiking areas are in the northern and eastern parts of Bali within an hour and half to two hours travel time from the airport.

Moreover, Bali can suit all kinds of budgets, from economical to luxury . However, Bali is an expat enclave and has heavy tourism. So, this drives the prices up, but in the off season (November to March except during the major holidays), you can get better prices.

With Asia Highlights , you enjoy 100% refund of any payments made to China Highlights prior to 3 weeks before departure ( detail⇒ ).

Typical Costs for 1 Week in Bali

Prices are going up, but Bali remains very good value compared to Western countries.

  • For a comfortable private tour (2–4 people) : About 160–220 USD per day per person is typical with private guide, 4- or 5-star hotels, nice meals, and private transfers included. For this standard of vacation in the US, the average price is 500+ USD.

The typical cost for a person for a week in Bali is from 1,000 USD.

For more on planning a week's holiday, see How to Plan a Trip to Bali .

Comparison with Thailand

Similar to Bali, Thailand is also affordable for all budget levels. 2–3 plane journeys are generally needed for a classic Thailand tour from north to south (Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket or Koh Samui), which makes traveling in Thailand slightly costlier than in Bali by 20–30 USD per person per day. A 10-Day Private Classic Thailand Tour costs around 2,000 USD per person.

Check the sample itineraries of Bali for 10 days .

The Cost of International Flights to Bali

The only international airport in Bali is Denpasar International Airport (DPS). The cheapest months to visit are October to March (rainy season). Airline prices from the middle of December to early January are high for the Christmas and New Year season. The most expensive months are from April to September, especially the Easter vacation period and summer holiday season (June to August).

Airline Ticket Prices from Major Cities to Bali (round trip):

  • New York , United States: From 1,500 USD . Flying to Bali from New York requires at least one stopover.
  • Sydney , Australia: From 800 USD. Flying out of Sydney can be non-stop.
  • London , England: From 900 USD. Flying out of London requires at least one stop.

Cost of Accommodations in Bali

Here are the approximate costs for a standard 2-person room in Bali for 2024. This is for reference only (prices fluctuate quickly due to various uncertainties related to changes in the epidemic situation):

* Low season : November to March except for around Christmas and New Year

* High season : April to September, Christmas and New Year season

During the busy months/weeks, we recommend you plan and book your accommodations well in advance.

Hotels are included in our itineraries and we can generally secure favorable prices. We recommend suitable hotels based on your budget, preferred location, room specification (e.g. no-smoking), and other requirements. Feel free to contact us .

The Cost of Eating and Drinking in Bali

  • Budget : A meal in a cheap local-style restaurant can be as low as 25,000 IDR (1.70 USD or 1.70 EUR).
  • Mid-range : A mid-range restaurant meal for two people with three courses costs about 21 USD or 21 EUR.

The Cost of Transportation in Bali

  • Taxi: The price of a taxi in Bali depends on several factors. The taxi starting price is about 0.47 USD (7,000 IDR). For each additional 1 km you have to pay about 0.50 USD (7,500 IDR).

Traveling around Bali is usually by taxi or private transfer. It generally takes no more than 2 hours of driving from Ubud in central Bali to the most southerly beaches.

Public buses and scoooter/bike hire are obviously a lot less efficient, convenient, and comfortable. While you could save most of your transport costs, it would mean less time at the attractions and hence less value-for-money on your tour time, so we don't recommend them generally.

The Cost of Attractions/Activities in Bali

Beaches : Public beaches are free, but you may need to pay to enter a private beach. See Best Beaches in Bali: How to Choose the Right One for Your Trip .

Rice terraces : The less popular rice terraces are generally free to visit. The most popular ones such as Jatiluwih and Tegallalang have entrance fees of about 4 or 5 dollars for tourists. The ticket sales help locls to cultivate the land and build concrete paths for better access to the rice fields.

Tips for Saving Money in Bali

  • Traveling during shoulder/low season (November to March helps to reduce airfare and touring costs substantially.
  • Use bicycle/scooter hire. Take the public buses. Share taxi rides with others.
  • The biggest tourist areas around Denpasar, on the southern and southeastern coasts, and around Ubud are the most expensive touring areas. For lower prices, you can go to the north coast, and the least expensive and least touristy area is western Bali.
  • Eat at small, local, inexpensive restaurants called warungs for authentic and cheap Balinese food.
  • Shop at fresh food markets for fruits and vegetables instead of supermarkets.

Things to Remember While On Your Bali Indonesia Trip

1. do not disrespect balinese culture or local customs.

It is important to show respect and appreciation for the rich traditions and customs of the Balinese people. This includes being mindful of their religious practices, dressing modestly when visiting temples, and seeking permission before taking photographs of individuals or sacred sites.

2. Do not step on or over offerings on the ground

Offerings are an integral part of Balinese daily life and are considered sacred. It is important to walk around them or step over them carefully to avoid causing any rudeness or offense. Additionally, it is advisable to avoid touching or disturbing the offerings in any way, as they hold great significance to the Balinese people.

3. Do not touch someone's head

Touching someone's head is considered disrespectful in Balinese culture. The head is believed to be the most sacred part of the body, and touching it without permission is seen as intrusive. It is important to show respect by refraining from any physical contact with someone's head, even if it may seem like a friendly gesture in other cultures.

4. Avoid entering temples without proper attire

In Bali, entering temples without proper attire is considered unmannered. Temples are sacred places and it is important to dress modestly and respectfully when visiting them. This typically means covering your shoulders, wearing a sarong or a long skirt, and sometimes even wearing a sash. By following these guidelines, you show respect for the religious beliefs and customs of the Balinese people.

5. Do not climb Mount Batur without a guide

This is because Mount Batur is an active volcano and can be dangerous to climb without proper guidance. Hiring a guide ensures your safety and also supports the local economy as many guides are locals who rely on tourism for their livelihood. 1. Breaking Stereotypes on my solo trip to Bali

Duration: 6N/7D

Accommodation: 3-star Hotel

Experiences: Female traveler on a budget trip to Bali, Bali is more than just a honeymoon destination.

Come Back for: Thrilling water sports and scuba diving

With my first international solo trip to Bali, I was already breaking the stereotypes of seeing Bali as only a ‘’romantic destination’’. And when i reached Bali, I could not believe that I was right all the while. Bali has an array of options to offer for every single traveler. I had reserved one of the best deal from TravelTriangle, and had my itinerary sorted beforehand. I had an amazing time during the exciting watersports activities at Tanjung Benoa beach. Apart from that, I experience Scuba diving for the first time and I can’t tell you how much I loved it!

I am still proud of myself (and thankful to TT) for taking the first step on discovering Bali, and defying the stereotypes!

2. Fun and frolic at Bali during my awesome trip

Duration: 7N/8D

Accommodation: Resort & Spa

Experiences: White-sand beaches and aqua blue water. Bali was incredibly well kept in comparison to India

Come Back for: Motorboat ride at the Bratan Temple

One of my best travel experiences so far, I consider the Bali trip as a lifetime memory. Firstly, I was able to cover an international destination in an affordable budget. Secondly, the whole trip was a real value for money, as the food wasn’t very expensive and the sightseeing was done at an economical price. I loved the shopping session and Sunset view from Tanah Lot. And lastly, I had a gala time enjoying the Kecak dance performance against the background of the setting sun. Cheers to TT team for providing me with several tour packages for Bali as options.

3. Shopping in Bali made my holidays much happening than ever!

Duration: 3N/4D

Accommodation: Resort

Experiences: Street-style shopping, local life, food

Come Back for: Sunset views and Banana boat ride

On my trip to Bali, I came across such beautiful places and even more beautiful experiences that left me wanting for more. Thanks to a well-charted Bali tour itinerary by team TravelTriangle, I had a great time in Bali. On my first day of outing, I tried my hand on scuba diving and jet skiing. It was altogether a wonderful experience for me. Apart from that, I loved shopping in Bali.On the streets of Seminyak, I came across a number of stalls that sold exquisite designer wear, colorful accessories, exquisite handicrafts and what not! I also carried a pouch of authentic coffee beans back home. I was able to shop to my heart’s content that too without burning a hole in my pocket. But I missed out on Banana boat rides. I would definitely come back for the same and would love to book one of the Bali vacation packages yet again!

Safety Measures To Follow During Bali Trip

Some of the best measures one must take while traveling to Bali during the pandemic are:

  • One must carry a COVID-19 negative certificate at all times
  • Make all hotel bookings in advance and ensure that you have a copy of the same
  • Ensure that you wear a mask at all time when traveling
  • Maintain social distancing and avoid going to crowded places
  • Keep a sanitizer handy at all times and ensure that the rooms are well-sanitized and hygienic.

Essential and Additional Info

Bali is an incredibly safe place to backpack and travel — even if you’re traveling solo (and even as a solo female traveler). But it is always good to protect one’s safety, especially during solo trips. A Bali holiday package must solve all your problems but safety is still in your own hand. However, certain rules must be universally followed, irrespective of travelling in a group or on your own -

  • Bali is a peaceful country. Hence, violent attacks are absent or rare. Make sure to keep your money and belongings safe.
  • Theft is a recurring problem, especially in public transit in Indonesia. Stay safe and avoid crowded places.
  • Be aware of the Credit card fraud which is a common issue in Indonesia. To stay safe, carry cash or debit cards.
  • Follow your gut feeling. If you feel the cab driver is weird or the hotel assistants are indecent, move out! Do not think twice, just move to a safer location or simply deboard the cab.
  • Carry copies of your documents before leaving for the trip and share the trip details with your family and friends when traveling alone.
  • Heard of “Do As The Romans Do?” In Bali, “do not do what the locals don’t” and you will be safe all the while.
  • Do not consume tap water in Bali. Make use of bottled mineral water.
  • Don’t overindulge with monkeys since they can bite and might cause infections.
  • While going on a trek or hike make sure to be accompanied by a local travel guide.
  • Keep your valuables close and safe not just from the pickpockets but also from monkeys

Pro Travelers’ Tips

  • If you are looking to save money on dining, check out the restaurants located anywhere but West. Explore the local food here and save more on eating.
  • When shopping in Bali, bargain hard and bargain every once in a while. Do not just blindly pay for the price they ask. If you are here through a certain Bali travel package , you may get some help from your tour guide as well.
  • If you already know too much about Southern Bali, take a trip to the less explored location- Northern Bali. Also, you will find the best accommodation deals here.
  • If you are looking to grab drinks at a minimum cost, head to the public bars during the Happy Hours or just buy from the local liquor store.
  • If you are traveling on your own, take the free shuttle that offer absolutely free airport transfers.
  • Carrying your own reusable water bottle will not only be helpful to you but also to Bali. It will save your money and the environment.
  • In some cases where you have booked any of the Bali trip packages , the agent might provide you with some essential info during the trip. Make sure you consider them important.
  • Note that when it comes to pilgrimage sites, Balinese follow a very strict dress code. So wear something that keeps the body covered.
  • Always make sure to check the weather forecast before planning any trip to Bali..
  • Before booking any Bali holiday package online, check out the complete itinerary and arrange a schedule much before time.

Bali treats every traveler with ample of options to choose from. From the hippie traveler to the fun-loving group, everyone comes to Bali to get a taste of its amazing landscape and vibrant nightlife. When one returns, it is just the good memories they carry back. And to top it all, our best-selling customized packages help travelers garner the experience of a lifetime. So, book your Bali tour package with airfare , now!
