Quickest ways that I know of are the daily dilithium card and the monthly campaigns. 2-3 times a year the Webstore offers 24500 (I think) for 24.99.

If so, then the only things you should be spending your dilithium on are the 3rd shuttle, slots, the 4th shuttle and then more slots. Usually in that order, but we are (hopefully) about to get an increasingly rare slot sale. So, it would probably make sense to wait and see how many you can buy then. Don't waste dilithium on voyages or packs.

Basically, the ability to freeze time before the catastrophe hits and see how or if it can be avoided is intriguing to me. Star Trek Timelines offers none of this. Or at best, fragmented pieces of it. At its core, the game is a collectible trading card game. Today, there over 500 possible crew members.

Immortalizing and freezing crew is the key. Start with the easy ones, commons. Then move on to greens, then blues. There's enough crew there to keep you busy for a while. Make sure you get three stars on all the levels in cadet missions. Once you have you don't need white, green or blue crew.

Beginning with the launch of Season 5: Call to Arms, Dilithium has become the major form of currency in Star Trek Online - it is primarily used to purchase in-game items, including ground and ship gear, starships, select Duty Officers and crafting materials, and is used to begin some Duty Officer Assignments.
Crew Retrieval Introduction
In Crew Retrieval (unlocked at Captain Level 16), for a cost of Credits and a new currency called Quantum, you'll be able to retrieve a crew from a specific pool of your choosing. You'll be able to refine said pool by selecting specific variables such as traits, skills, and rarity. These variables will be represented by a new item: a Polestar.

4th shuttle. It has the most benefits. You'll have a constant supply of 5* trainers, so leveling crew up won't be an issue anymore. You'll be able to be competitive in Faction events. The 4th shuttle is the difference between placing in the top 10k and the top 5k. It makes collecting 4* faction tier crew easier.
