Rubicon travel, doo Beograd

10 godina rada RUBICON TRAVELA.

Godine 2020. Rubicon travel je završio dekadu svog rada uz permanentni napredak (Bonitet od 2016: AAA+ i bonitet AA+ 2019.).

Koncept rada Rubicon travela je ostao neizmenjen: Apsolutna i beskompromisna posvećenost partnerima i klijentima. Klijentu ne treba povlađivati u kvalitetu usluga.

Beležiti navike redovnih putnika i isouniti ih.

Where Is The Rubicon Trail?

Located in California’s historic gold rush territory, the trail snakes its way through parts of the Sierra Nevada range.

Approximately 63-miles east of Sacramento, on Interstate 50, is the junction with Ice House Road. Traveling on this road north out of Riverton will put you at Loon Lake after 23.4-miles.

The trailhead starts on the west side of the lake, near the dam.

Check out the Rubicon Trail Map below:

Map of the Rubicon Trail

Make sure to read the section on ‘Using recovery straps for towing vehicles ‘

Rated “Extreme”

The Loon Lake trailhead sits at an elevation of 6,331 feet. The trail continues to climb in this section and it is here that overlanders will experience many of the legendary obstacles.

The Little Sluice Box, located on the south-east side of Devils Peak, sits at 6,684 feet in elevation.

The remainder of the major obstacles is found at lower elevations, with Cadillac Hill finishing out the major challenges at 6,162 in height.

The Rubicon then begins to meander down towards McKinney Lake.

The Tahoe side of the Rubicon trails and staging area are located on the north-east side of the lake.

History Of The Rubicon Trail

Tradition holds that the original Rubicon trail was used by Native Americans.

They used the trail to travel back and forth between Lake Tahoe and the Sacramento Valley. It was discovered by European travelers to the region in the 1840s.

Over the next 50-years, they slowly converted the trail into a road.

The name of the trail comes from the Rubicon river that it crosses at Rubicon Springs. The river takes its moniker from the Rubicon river in northern Italy.

It was there that Julius Caesar famously declared “the die is cast.”

He was referring to reaching a point of no return as he marched his army into Italy in 49 B.C.E.

The First Vehicle

The roadway provided access to the Rubicon Springs Resort and Hotel.

The first automobile to drive the trail made quite a stir in 1908 when a woman drove to Rubicon Springs from Lake Tahoe.

Regionally, the Rubicon Springs road was hailed as the best route to take between Lake Tahoe and Georgetown to the west.

Locals even promoted an automobile trip to foster this belief.

While plans were made to improve the roadway, it fell into disuse when the hotel closed in the late 1920s.

It wasn’t until after WWII, and American’s love of Jeep, that the trail began to be known to the off-roading world.

Businessmen teamed with the Georgetown Rotary Club to establish an event to help boost the local economy.

In 1953, the first Jeepers Jamboree had 55 vehicles participate.

The annual event has grown over the years to the point that it is often called the “Granddaddy” of four-wheeling events. A Jeep only event (called Jeep Jamboree) began 24-years later.

Today, these Jamborees are highly sponsored and include many mechanics and vendors that offer their services during these events.

Rubicon Trail Requirements

The Rubicon Trail will push you and your vehicle to the limits. It has an extreme rating for a reason. There will be damage to the vehicle and you should be prepared to get stuck during the trip.

That is why you need to make preparations beforehand.

The Minimum Requirements

At a minimum, there should be at least one frame-mounted recovery point (preferably more) on the front and rear bumpers .

A locking or limited slip differential will help to prevent too much power from being allocated to one wheel. Although, both front and rear lockers are better on the vehicle.

Rocker guards for body protection as well as skid plates for the gas tank, transfer case, and transmission pan are needed.

Added protection for the lower control arm on the vehicle would also be advantageous.

Rubicon Trail Requirements

Depending upon the length of the wheelbase, the tires need to be at least 33-inches (including the full-sized spare).

To prevent a bad experience, make sure the tires come with three-ply sidewalls with a good tread. To take full advantage of those tires , you should have a properly sized lift kit installed.

A functioning parking brake, limited slip differential, and seatbelts for all passengers are important considerations.

Rollbar, Winch, Transmission

To help prevent your overland adventure turning into a disaster, a factory hardtop or rollbar (even a full cage) need to be in place.

Make sure that your winch is rated for twice the vehicle weight and that your jack is working properly . For better torque when crawling, a recommended gear ratio of 55:1 for automatic and 65:1 for manual transmissions is recommended.

Make sure your overland vehicle has been serviced and is in proper working order before you reach the trail to protect it from significant damage.

More Safety Gear And Tools Requirements

Install proper battery hold downs (no bungee cords), a fire extinguisher , spare tires , and a first aid kit as bare necessities as well.

A good set of tools , extra extraction equipment, and a good pair of gloves will be of use. It is worth noting that many four-wheel clubs and tours may require additional features or equipment.

You might want to take tire deflators with you . That way you could quickly deflate tires for better traction and grip .

If you plan your trip with them, they will let you know these details ahead of time.

Non Street Legal Vehicle

While any street-legal vehicle from any state is allowed on the Rubicon, a non-street legal vehicle will require a green sticker and must have a spark arrestor installed.

This information, along with other California vehicle codes can be found on their DMV site .

It would be wise to check with the El Dorado and Placer County authorities as well.

Rubicon Trail Camping

The Rubicon Trail is best enjoyed over at least two days. Dispersed camping , camping outside of designated sites, is allowed throughout most of the area.

Popular spots include Buck Island Lake, Ellis Creek, Wentworth Springs, and the observation point at Cadillac.

You are not allowed to drive off of the trail, and you will need a permit for fires.

Remember to exercise proper camping etiquette, including using Wag bags for human waste . There are a few designated sites with various accommodations near the trail including Airport Flat, Loon Lake, Gerle Creek, and Kaspian on the Tahoe side.

When To Go To The Rubicon Trail?

It is a good thing to go to the Rubicon Trail when the weather is clear and moderate. One thing to note that driving in the winter on the Rubicon Trail would be extremely challenging.

That is why your vehicle would need to be highly equipped and heavily modified to be capable of handling the demanding terrain in winter.

So, if you want you can skip going to the Rubicon Trail in the winter. You can also run the Rubicon Trail during an event like the Jeep Jamboree . Or else, you can visit the trail during the Labor Day weekend or Memorial Day weekend.

In terms of the time of the day, it is good to go on there either at sunrise or sunset. If you are going off-roading on the Rubicon Trail at sunrise, you will experience the natural beauty of Sierras in a unique way.

Also, in summer days, it will be colder at night. On the contrary, starting at sunrise would allow you to explore while the full day is ahead of you. So, it is up to you to choose the time you prefer.

How Long Does It Take To Drive The Rubicon Trail?

The Rubicon Trail is 22 miles/35.4 km long. But you know it is famous for its obstacles and challenges in the way.

So, if you want the best experience and want to run the Rubicon trail entirely, you would need at least a few days.

Usually, you could reach there and sleep at a hotel on the first day. Then you can drive the next day.

After that, you can camp or sleep at another hotel again the next day. The following day, you can drive again and complete the challenge comfortably.

At that moment, you can spend another night there or head back home. Then again, assuming you are an experienced off-roader and you want to do it fast, then it is possible to complete it in around 5 hours.

Where Can I Camp On The Rubicon Trail?

If you look at the map of Rubicon Trail, you will see that there are several designated camping areas in the Rubicon (El Dorado, Tahoe, and other sides). Some of the most popular ones are:

  • Ellis Creek
  • Winter Camp
  • Wentworth Springs
  • Airport Flat
  • Buck Island Lake
  • Gerle Creek
  • RTF Property
  • Rubicon Springs
  • North Shore
  • Top of Cadillac, and more

Do I Need Lockers for The Rubicon Trail?

Yes, if you want to save your vehicle from some heavy damage. Above, we have already shared the minimum requirements your vehicle should be equipped with for the Rubicon Trail.

Thus, you will need front and rear lockers, 35-inch tires (min), skid plates, tow points, rocker panel protection, transfer case, front and rear recovery points, rollbar, winch , limited slip differential, and many more safety gear and tools.

Can A Stock Jeep Do The Rubicon Trail?

Technically, Yes. But with heavy body damage to the vehicle. There have been many stock Jeeps that explored the Rubicon Trail.

However, it would be a very challenging task and it will heavily depend on the model of the Jeep . That is why it is recommended to modify and upgrade your vehicle before you go for the Rubicon Trail.

Otherwise, your vehicle would have to take significant body damage. Some of the must-have modifications on your vehicle to save it from significant damage are front and rear recovery points, lift kit, rock rails, 35-inch off-road tires , rock sliders, front and rear lockers, and so on.

Plus, you will have to be a highly experienced off-roader and very familiar with the Rubicon Trail to complete the trail with a stock Jeep.

Bucket List

Finally, there is only one question to ask: is the Rubicon Trail on your bucket list?

And remember the most important rules of the Rubicon Trail:

  • Leave no trace (applies actually everywhere)
  • All vehicles must remain within 25 feet of the centerline of the Rubicon Trail

Before you go, make sure you check the full list of regulations and modify your vehicle according to the requirements. A good place to start is the Rubicon Trail Foundation’s website .

Buckeye Lake Mobile Manor RV Park & Cabins 38.92377203 -120.79866133 Street: 7434 Wentworth Springs Road Georgetown, ca 95634-9770 Phone: (530) 333-4177

I hope this helps. Have a great trip!

Has anyone ever tried the trail with a FMTV 1078?

I doubt it. I think it will be a tad too large for the Rubicon Trail.

Can you do the trail with a roof top tent?

Hi Aliesha. Yes, you can, but be careful with such a heavy load on your roof. It can easily make your truck to topple at some sections of the trail.

Russia: One Week Itinerary

Russia , the largest country in the world has been on my bucketlist for the longest time. This is where the first ‘women only’ tour of Ticking the Bucketlist is headed. We are off tomorrow and would be spending one week in this enchanting land!

Here is what our ‘one week in Russia’ itinerary looks like….

Day 1: Moscow – Izmailovsky Flea Market and ‘Moscow by Night’

We start our trip from Delhi on an Aeroflot flight and reach Moscow at about 0835 in the morning. We head straight to our hotel to stretch our legs and get some shut-eye. We need to charge our batteries for the Russian sojourn. We are staying in the Best Western Vega at the Izmailovsky area, which is very famous for its local flea market. The  Izmailovsky Market is the best place in Moscow for souvenir shopping …dolls, porcelain, jewelry boxes…we will buy them all from here.

Day 2: Moscow – Moscow City Tour and Kremlin Tour

A red building at the Red Square of the Kremlin

Having seen the city’s light the previous night, it is time to see the city’s colours this morning. We will set off on the Moscow City Tour shows us the highlights of city, starting with the Red Square. This is our day to click a 1000 pictures in front of all the monuments that represent Moscow…St Basil’s Cathedral, the Bolshoi theatre, the Olympic Stadium and the Sparrow Hills.

Exploring the Kremlin

Today is also the day to visit and learn more about the most famous monument in Russia. Kremlin, literally means a fort inside a city. Dynasties built on the site, one century after another and the site came to known as the Kremlin in the 14the century. The walled structure of the Kremlin includes palaces and cathedrals… and a historical past!

Later in the evening, we will enjoy the Russian circus that many of us have seen to television ever so often. Acrobats, clowns and animals….its is time to let the little girl in you come out and clap her hands!

Day 3: Moscow – Metro Stations and Arbat Street followed by the Bolshoi Ballet

Mosaics on the walls of the metro station

Today, we set out to explore the metro stations of Moscow, each of which is a stellar work of art. Stunning frescos and chandeliers in marble surroundings… it’s a work of art! We will then walk along the Arbat street, which is the city’s only pedestrian street, lined with shops and cafes.

As the night unfolds, I intend to don a classy dress and get set to watch one of the finest shows on earth at the Bolshoi Theatre. I have always been awestruck by the art form and would love to see some of the best performers in the world move gracefully. A performance that is rated as one of the best in the world has to be ticked off my bucketlist!

Day 4: Moscow – Day Tour to Sergiev Posad followed by a crazy bar hopping night!

Sergiev Posad is one the strongest spiritual centres in Russia. Home to stunning churches, Sergiev Posad will give us a flavour of the famous ‘Golden Ring’ of Russia. The tour will take 5-7 hours and we will be back at the hotel in second half.

Exploring Sergiev Posad

This will be our last night in Moscow, and we are not going to leave the city without sampling some fine Russian vodka. So, this night is dedicated to bar hopping and pub crawling. Hope to meet some travellers and make new friends.

Day 5: Saint Petersburg – Sapsan train experience to Saint Petersburg and Matryoshka Doll painting class

Saint Petersburg , our next destination, is at least 700 km away from Moscow… and we will zip zap zoom on the Sapsan (the high speed train) to get there in about four hours! The high speed trains are engineering marvels, worth experiencing and we ride this iron horse in the afternoon, reaching St Peterburg in the evening.

As a group, we also join a masterclass to paint our own nested Matryoshka dolls… our own little souvenir to carry and remind us of a fun week in Russia.

With our very own Matryoshka dolls!

Day 6: Saint Petersburg – City Tour and Peterhof Palace

The day starts with a city tour of Saint Petersburg that will give us a peek into what this city has… many bridges, stunning castles, colourful cathedrals and fortresses.

Post lunch, we will head to the Peterhof Palace, also called the Russian Versailles. With spring having set in, the gardens would be green and the fountains will put up a show…I am excited!

Peterhof Palace

Day 7: Saint Petersburg – Hermitage Museum and Shopping

The highlights tour on the previous day will surely make us want to see more of Saint Petersburg…and we will do so by visiting the Hermitage Museum, which is also called the ‘Louvre of Russia’. The Hermitage complex itself is of architectural delight … and the collections have stories to speak which will hopefully, spike our interest enough to make to go back read our history textbooks.

The Hermitage Museum

The rest of the day is totally free to visit any of the other monuments or simply shop … it’s every girl’s favourite sport, isn’t it?

Our last night Russia… Oh Russia!!!! Tonight we will explore the party scene in SPB … or maybe … pack for the next day?

Day 8: Saint Petersburg …Bye Bye Russia

Memories, souvenirs and new friendships… it’s time take them all back to India! We check out of our hotel and take the flight from SPB to Delhi, via Moscow.

Farewell Russia!

Your photos are beautiful! I have always wanted to visit Russia, especially after seeing Anastasia (the Disney movie) 🙂 I can’t believe those mosaics are on the walls at the METRO STATION! How unreal. Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Wow that is quite an awesome itinerary. I mean… huge Russia in 1 week. I am still dreaming of St. Petersbourg. So many people told me that it is gorgeous. And I would die to see the Ballet

You know I have never considered Russia but this itinerary looks amazing. St. Petersburg looks beautiful. I will certainly consider a trip there now

I’ve only been to St Petersburg so far, and did a few tours in the city and around. But I have a good friend in Moscow, so the incentive is definitely there to go back. I enjoy doing those by night experiences and see how cities transform in different times of day – especially if it’s topped with a circus visit, amazing 🙂

We are thinking of heading to Russia next Summer so will deffo use this itinerary, looks amazing! Would love to visit the Kremlin in Moscow! Thanks for sharing!

I have always been fascinated by Russia. I like the colourful rounds domes on the Palaces just like an Aladin’s Palace. FIFA Football World will be held in Russia next year and I will try my best to visit this beautiful country and will follow your itinerary and contact you. 🙂

Moscow and Kremlin city tour looks amazing. Your one week itinerary is helpful and complete tour of Russian delights. St.Petersburg city tour is also enchanting and splendid. I really want to have Russian vacation now after seeing your pictures

Wow, this is awesome. Well weaved itinerary! We had always dreamed of taking pictures of those onion-domed palaces and those colors on the palaces are just mind blowing. We didn’t know that there is a Versailles in Russia the exterior paint and the colors look much similar. We had loved it in France and would love to visit it in Russia too.

The Peterhof Palace is a delight to visit. Highly recommend it if you are in SPB

I haven’t visited Russia, but it’s definitely on the list! This a great itinerary, I love how you included things to do but also gave some leeway to do things on your own as well (like shopping haha). Beautiful pictures, the buildings and Russian dolls are stunning! I wonder if they’re all hand painted.

The dolls are all hand painted. The cost increases depending on the quality of work and the artist.

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

  • Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
  • Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
  • How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
  • What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
  • What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
  • What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.

Is it possible to visit Russia as a tourist right now? (Q&A)

rubicon travel

Who can enter Russia as a tourist?

At present, people from 80 countries can enter Russia. There are two main conditions: first, one must be a citizen of that country or have a permanent residence permit; and second - one needs to enter Russia by plane. The primary document that regulates entry during the coronavirus pandemic is Order no. 635-r (March 16, 2020), which is regularly updated.

Some of the countries on the list include the United States, Britain, Greece, Germany, Tunisia, Israel, Japan, Armenia, Qatar, Portugal, Mexico, Croatia, Belgium, China, France, Denmark, New Zealand, Iran, Peru, Norway and Argentina. Click here for the full list.

In the meantime, any country with which Russia currently has a travel agreement can serve as the port of departure (however, the transit country must be on the above list).

What type of visa is required?

Those who already have a valid Russian visa - and citizens of the above countries - can enter Russia using that visa. Those who do require a visa can submit their documents at the Russian consulate in their home country.

rubicon travel

What is still not possible at this point is obtaining a unified electronic visa (a type of visa that is valid for up to 16 days, takes only four days to process and does not require submitting any documents relating to the purpose of visit). Therefore, in order to receive a regular tourist visa (valid up to six months) it is necessary to have a confirmed accommodation booking or an agreement with a travel agency.

Is a COVID test required?

Yes, PCR tests must be performed no earlier than 48 hours before arriving in Russia. The results must be printed in Russian or English (this is required even if you received a Sputnik-V vaccine shot). If you’re flying with children, they, too, must obtain a test, irrespective of age. And a form for arrivals must be filled in before entering the country.

Who is not affected by the rules?

These restrictions don’t apply to foreigners with a valid Russian residence permit or those with close relatives. They can enter Russia from any country using any means of transportation, including by land.

rubicon travel

They also do not apply to partially recognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as citizens of Belarus (or those with Belarusian permanent residence permits), Kazakhstan and citizens of the Donetsk and Lugansk national republics. Entering by land is also possible when traveling from Mongolia or China.

Furthermore, if Eurasian Economic Union citizens cross over by land, they don’t have to submit a coronavirus test or fill out the arrivals form.

Is vaccination required?

No. The QR codes required for visiting public gatherings before spring (including cafes, bars, hotels, etc.) are no longer required in the majority of regions. The same goes for various other COVID restrictions: regions have the final say, but almost all have been lifted.

What about masks?

rubicon travel

Masks are also no longer a requirement. However, some regions still require people to wear masks in some places, including stores, pharmacies, shopping malls, movie theaters and so on. In Moscow, the rule on masks has been completely lifted, while, for example, in Kaliningrad, some places still enforce them.

Are there any quarantine regulations in place?

No, you will not be required to quarantine on arrival to Russia. However, if you get sick in Russia, you will have to be quarantined for a period of seven days at your own expense. Those who have come in contact with infected people do not require quarantining (provided they did not contract the coronavirus).

Important! In many countries, there are still restrictions on LEAVING for the purpose of tourism, so having a Russian visa does not guarantee you will get permission to leave your country. This must be clarified before making any trips.
