Sally Boazman is known throughout the UK as BBC Radio 2’s Sally Traffic .

Sally is the UK’s premier traffic and travel reporter.

After working with the likes of Steve Wright, Johnnie Walker, Ken Bruce, Jeremy Vine and Chris Evans, she has become known as the woman who changed the face of traffic news.

Millions listen to her informative and witty bulletins, and she has been nominated for numerous awards from both her peers and from professional motoring organisations.

She has been voted ‘one of the most attractive female voices on UK radio’ in a Radio Times poll, coming in at number 4, beating most of the top personalities in UK radio and topping the poll on BBC Radio 2 .

Sally’s career has included working as an actress, in current affairs at LWT, working at AA Roadwatch and broadcasting traffic news to many stations, followed by BFBS and the BBC World Service.

BBC Greater London Radio then beckoned and she became their Chief Travel Reporter , writing and delivering scripts for both radio and Newsroom South East.

Later moving to BBC Radio 2 in 1998 she took up the role as the station’s first designated Travel Reporter  and quickly became the butt of insults and innuendo from her fellow presenters.

However, Sally’s talents do not stop at broadcasting. She is an accomplished writer as well as an outstanding singer.

Sally’s book, The Sally Traffic Handbook is full of facts, fun and frolics.

Sally Boazman is a popular guest at motoring themed events such as the ‘Truckfest’ which are held throughout the country each year, meeting in person the drivers who listen to her travel reports.

She was thrilled to be given an ‘ Outstanding Achievement Award ’ on behalf of all the UK truckers for her traffic news on BBC Radio 2.

Her popularity means she is in demand for corporate events, and she undertakes personal appearances, grand openings, corporate hosting , speeches and corporate videos.

Radio 2's Zoe Ball sparks concern as she's replaced without warning on Breakfast Show

Listeners waking up to Zoe Ball's Breakfast Show were given a shock this morning when she was replaced without warning- with it later being revealed the host will be away 'for weeks'

  • Updated 14:21, 12 Aug 2024

Radio 2 listeners got a shock this morning when they were greeted by a different voice on the BBC Breakfast Show.

Stand-in Scott Mills sparked concern when he revealed usual host Zoe Ball would be away 'for weeks' and said the team were 'sending her all their love.'

At the start of her show at 6.30am Zoe was nowhere to be seen with Scott Mills stepping up to the microphone in her absence. "Good Morning. You weren't expecting me were you? Welcome to Monday. It's Scott Mills," introduced the host.

Addressing the confusion, he continued: "If you set your alarm every morning to go off at 6.30 and normally Zoe comes on please do not freak out. You have not overslept. I'm here doing the Breakfast Show do not panic. It's early. You aren't late for work. It's Monday 12th August," said Scott.

Following the news bulletin at 8am, Scott addressed the switch-up again as he told listeners: "If you've just put us on this morning, it's Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks. I'm sending you all my love Zo' as are the team."

The BBC have since confirmed to the Mirror that Zoe will not return until September. In a statement they said: "Zoe is taking time off and will return in September."

Zoe, 53, also pulled out of Friday's show at the 11th hour - after saying she would be at the helm on her social media the night before, telling her followers 'See you at dawn'. However, Radio 2 fans tuned in to the last show of the week were welcomed by stand-in Gaby Roslin instead.

Former Pop Idol winner Will Young , who was a guest on the show, also shared his excitement at chatting with Zoe on Thursday night. "Jumping in to album release day tomorrow on @bbcradio2. @zoetheball bring your swimmers." However, he was left chatting to replacement Gaby instead when he arrived at Radio 2 towers.

Neither Gaby or Scott shared the reason for Zoe's sudden absence.

Zoe had only returned to her BBC show on Monday 5 August after a lengthy break. Returning to the airwaves last week, Zoe joked: "What did I miss?"

Her comeback came days after she told followers it was her late mum's 'heavenly' birthday - and the first one since she tragically passed away in April. Zoe said her family were “bereft” following the death of her mother Julia, with the presenter taking two weeks off work to grieve the sad news.

The Radio 2 presenter announced in early March that her mother had been diagnosed with cancer and was being “incredibly brave”. It was confirmed that Gaby Roslin would “occasionally” replace her on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show so she could spend time with her mother who was later taken to a hospice. Just 12 weeks later Zoe announced that her mum had sadly died.

“Sleep tight dear Mama,” Ball said, announcing the death on social media, sharing a younger picture of her mother, as she annoinced the news to her followers. "Thank you for teaching us how to love unconditionally, to always show courage and empathy, and how, even in the darkest of days, laughter is the greatest of gifts. We are bereft without you but will hold so tight to each other.”

Ball had previously described the cancer diagnosis as an “extremely tough” time.

The broadcaster’s son Woody Cook, who she shares with ex-husband Norman Cook better known as British DJ Fatboy Slim, also shared a tribute on Instagram .

“Today I say goodbye to Granny J, thank you for being a wonderful woman,” the 23-year-old said, sharing a younger picture with his grandmother. Cook, who appeared on Netflix reality series The Circle in 2019, also referenced his grandmother’s late husband Rick Peckham. He said: “The only person who always sent me a valentines card. I know you’re with Rick now, give him a hug from me.

“I know he said once when you were panicking in a helicopter over the Jungle ‘If you get lost, follow the river!’ You’ll find him at the end.”

Last month Zoe was named the highest paid woman at the BBC. There were four women in the top 10 when the annual report was released; Zoe Ball, Fiona Bruce, Lauren Laverne and Naga Munchetty .

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker was again named the corporation's top earner with £1.35m, followed by Radio 2's Zoe Ball with £950,000.

BBC presenter Zoe Ball replaced at last minute and wont be back 'for weeks'

Zoe ball wont be back for 'weeks', her stand in scott mills announced.

BBC listeners were left startled this morning after their usual radio presenter didn't host her usual morning show, with it being revealed she wont be back 'for weeks'.

Zoe Ball, who runs the breakfast slot on BBC Radio 2 , was absent from airwaves on Monday morning (12 August).

Instead, she was replaced by Scott Mills.

Addressing why he was on the radio show instead of Ball, Mills didn't go in to the reasons behind her absence. But he did say he and the breakfast show team were 'sending her all their love'.

He said Ball, from Blackpool, would not be returning to the show 'for weeks'.

Starting up the show at 6.30am, Mills said: "Good morning. You weren't expecting me were you?

"Welcome to Monday. It's Scott Mills . If you set your alarm every morning to go off at 6.30 and normally Zoe comes on please do not freak out.

"You have not overslept. I'm here doing the Breakfast Show do not panic.

"It's early. You aren't late for work. It's Monday 12th August."

After the 8am news bulletin was read out to listeners, Mills said he would be standing in for Ball for the next few weeks.

Speaking to The Mirror, the BBC said she would not be back until September.

It is the second working week day Ball has not been fronting her show, with her also not appearing on last Friday's breakfast show.

That was despite telling her Instagram followers she would 'see them at dawn'. Instead, Gaby Roslin was brought in for the morning gig.

Like with Mills, the reason for Ball's absence was not eluded to by Roslin.

A spokesperson for the BBC said: "Zoe is taking time off and will return in September."

Ball's most recent post to Instagram shows her having had a good time with her children, having celebrated Brighton Pride and enjoyed a holiday in Ibiza.

She wrote: "My sun, my moon, my stars. Jet lagged, Brighton pride lagged, Ibiza lagged #fix #ravemonkeys #mumnbass."

It was revealed last month that Ball is one of the highest earners at the BBC, second only to Gary Lineker who takes home a cool £1.35 million.

Ball earns £950,000, which is a £30,000 drop year-on-year.

Third on the list was disgraced journalist Huw Edwards with a salary of £475,000. Last week the BBC asked him to return £200,000 of this after he pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children.

CBBC presenters have been reunited nearly two decades after they first started working together.

TV legends Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates have both carved out their careers, with one moving into the wellness space and the other focusing on investigative documentaries.

Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates have been reunited after first working together on CBBC.

Yet for the pair, it all started out at CBBC and presenting children's TV in the early noughties and now the pair are set to be reunited again.

Writing on the BBC Radio 2 official Instagram, a throwback snap of the pair was shared with Fearne sporting short two tone hair and Reggie beaming with a backwards cap.

The post read: "Fearne and Reggie! Tomorrow on Sounds of the 90s, Fearne is joined by her best mate from the 90s... Reggie Yates! Listen from 10pm on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds."

Fans have gone wild for the iconic pairing, as one commented: "OH MY GOD ITS REGGIE !!!"

Another shared: "Wow memory lane."

"Love this!" said a third.

Fearne and Reggie have worked together on and off for years, first appearing together on CBBC Sunday breakfast show Smile and Only In America, which saw them embark on a weird and wacky roadtrip across the States.

CBBC wasn't the only time Reggie and Fearne joined forces though. They went on to present Top Of The Pops together before moving into radio.

Radio 2 listeners usually wake to Zoe Ball ’s familiar voice over the airwaves, but the star has been missing from her Breakfast show for the past few days.

On Friday, August 9, Gaby Roslin could be heard welcoming the 6.30am audience instead of the 53-year-old presenter.

This unexpected absence has stretched into this morning’s show too, with Scott Mills taking over for Zoe and joking listeners hadn’t ‘overslept’.

The BBC confirmed to Metro.co.uk that Zoe would be taking time off and planned to return in September but offered no further details.

Usually, presenters will give listeners a heads-up if they plan to be off but on Zoe’s last show on Thursday, she simply said: ‘See you at dawn’.

Her last shock time off came after her mum’s sudden death in April , 12 weeks after receiving a cancer diagnosis.

‘Good Morning. You weren’t expecting me, were you? Welcome to Monday. It’s Scott Mills,’ the 51-year-old presenter announced.

Aware that his voice might cause panic as Scott usually fills an afternoon slot on the popular BBC radio station.

He explained: ‘If you set your alarm every morning to go off at 6.30 and normally Zoe comes on please do not freak out. You have not overslept.

‘I’m here doing the Breakfast Show do not panic. It’s early. You aren’t late for work. It’s Monday 12th August.’

Scott gave no further details about Zoe’s absence and the star herself has not given any further information.

Zoe Ball and her late mother smile together in 2011 for formal event

Her disappearance from the airwaves appears to have been an unexpected one as guest Will Young shared he was excited to chat with her on Thursday night.

‘Jumping into album release day tomorrow on @bbcradio2. @zoetheball bring your swimmers,’ the Leave Right Now hitmaker shared on X.

Instead, he found himself chatting to Gaby, 60, about his brand new album.

Zoe had only just returned to her Breakfast slot on August 5 after a short break for her mum’s birthday – the first since her death.

Keeping things light, the presenter asked ‘What did I miss?’ after saying her family, which includes two children with ex Fatboy Slim , were ‘bereft’.

The radio DJ had announced her mother Julia Peckham’s pancreatic cancer diagnosis in March , subsequently  taking time off work to care for her .

After the funeral, Zoe wrote on Instagram: ‘Yesterday we said goodbye to our dear Mama, Granny J. It was the perfect day and she would have loved it.

‘Forever in our hearts Mama, thank you for your magic & love. Missing you so much but holding tight to each other.’

Her mum died on April 24, with Zoe sharing: ‘Thank you for teaching us how to love unconditionally, to always show courage and empathy, and how, even in the darkest of days, laughter is the greatest of gifts.

‘We are bereft without you but will hold so tight to each other. Your grace & your smile that lit up every room you were in, will light the stars to guide us.’
