What to Know

  • iOS 11 and Later: Settings > Safari > Block All Cookies > toggle switch to Off position.
  • iOS 7 through 10: Settings > Safari > Block Cookies > Allow from Websites I Visit > select desired option.

This guide explains how to enable cookies in Safari on an iPhone.

How to Enable Cookies in iOS 11 and Later

Assuming that you've already disabled cookies, enabling them again is extremely simple.

Go to  Settings .

Scroll down and tap  Safari .

Tap the switch next to Block All Cookies , so that its moves to the Off position.

That's it, you can now resume viewing websites as normal. You are asked by each new website you visit whether you accept its cookies, and you can choose to tap Yes or No according to whether you trust each website.

How to Enable Cookies on iPhone iOS 7 Through 10

Enabling cookies on iPhones loaded with iOS 7, 8, 9 or 10 (iPhones 4 to 7 Plus) is almost identical to enabling them on the more recent operating systems. However, there is one extra step involved, as shown below:

Scroll down and tap  Block Cookies .

Tap  Allow from Websites I Visit .

You could tap Allow from Current Website Only , which would mean that only first-party cookies are allowed, rather than third-party cookies from websites you've visited previously. You could also tap  Always Allow , which would enable every kind of cookie, even those that don't come from a party whose website you've visited.

How to Delete Cookies

You can choose to periodically delete the cookies you currently have stored without opting to permanently disable cookies. This might be desirable in situations where you've stored settings or visited sites you'd rather erase.

Here's how you do it:

Go to Settings .

Scroll down and tap Safari .

Tap Advanced .

Tap Website Data .

Slide individual website cookies to the left and tap Delete or remove all the cookies from the phone by tapping Remove All Website Data .

Tap Remove Now to confirm the deletion.

By doing this, you clear cookies you currently have stored on your iPhone without preventing new cookies from being saved during subsequent use.

Why Do I Need to Enable Cookies on My iPhone?

In our increasingly privacy-focused age, cookies are getting a bad rap. Some of this is justified, but this doesn't change the fact that cookies can be useful. For example, cookies remember your login data for particular websites, so whenever you return to them you remain logged in and don't have to go through the hassle of remembering your password every time you visit.

Similarly, cookies remember your settings for specific websites and domains, saving you from having to answer the same irritating pop-up that asks whether you'd like to receive notifications. For online retail sites, they save what's in your shopping basket, which means that they're all-but-essential if you're a regular online shopper.

They are, in other words, a big timesaver, which is why enabling them is advisable.

How to Enable Cookies in Safari on iPhone 13

There is a setting on your iPhone that allows you to block cookies, and many websites you visit will try to use them to track information about your visit.

However, if you choose to block these cookies, it may be difficult for you to use websites as you would like. To enhance your browsing experience, you may choose to enable or accept those cookies once more.

On an iPhone, you can enable cookies by navigating to Settings > Safari and deactivating Block All Cookies .

Activating Cookies on an iPhone

  • Choose Settings .
  • Choose Safari .
  • Deactivate Block All Cookies .

Further details regarding how to enable cookies on the iPhone 13 are provided below, along with screenshots of each step.

There are always new features being added to the iPhone that try to protect your information as the gadget becomes more and more concerned with the privacy of its users.

Nevertheless, one choice that has been available for a long time is the cookies that Safari stores as you browse the Internet.

The device’s Safari menu has a toggle that you may use to decide whether to allow or block those cookies.

When your cookies are restricted, you can still carry out some common surfing actions, but it might be challenging to complete all of your desired tasks.

You ay be unsure about what to do if you have difficulties on websites while you browse or receive warnings urging you to re-enable cookies.

You can use the guide we’ve provided below to locate the setting that allows cookies to be stored in Safari on your iPhone.

How to Enable Cookies in Safari Mobile

This article’s instructions were carried out on an iPhone 13 running iOS 16. The majority of other iPhone models and iOS versions will nevertheless function with these similar instructions.

Step 1: On your Home screen, locate the Settings app icon and click it to launch it.

tap Settings

Step 2: Scroll down and select Safari.

select Safari

Step 3: To disable Block All Cookies , tap the button to its right.

If the button does not have a green border, cookies are disabled. In the picture below, I have cookies turned on.

how to enable cookies in Safari on iPhone 13

You can turn this setting on and off depending on whether you want to have cookies enabled or disabled for your surfing sessions now that you know how to enable cookies on iPhone 13.

The way that your iPhone handles cookies when it is in private browsing mode is the same as when it is in regular browsing mode.

However, the iPhone will immediately remove or clear those cookies once you’re done with your private browsing, which is the greatest distinction between private and public browsing.

Cross-site tracking is another relevant setting found in the Safari menu.

Third-party cookie storage on your iPhone will be impacted by cross-site tracking. Many services won’t be able to follow your online behavior across the various Web pages you visit if you have it disabled.

If you have cookies enabled but are still having issues with your browsing, you might want to try enabling cross-site tracking to see if that helps.

How to enable cookies on iPhone to personalize your web browsing experience

  • You can enable cookies for the iPhone's Safari browser in the Settings app.
  • Many websites require the use of cookies for better performance.
  • While cookies help personalize and stream your web browsing experience, you can manage how third-party companies track you.

You sometimes hear advice from security- and privacy-minded individuals suggesting that you should block or disable all cookies in your web browser . But is that really the best advice?

While third-party cookies are used by ad companies to track you as you go around the internet, first-party cookies are actually practical. First-party cookies allow browsers to remember important user info — like usernames, passwords, and language preferences — so you have a better user experience.

Generally speaking, it's a good idea to leave first-party cookies enabled to personalize and streamline your web browsing. That said, there are measures you can take so third-party content providers do not collect your personal data.

How to enable cookies on iPhone in Chrome and Firefox

If you use a third-party browser like Chrome or Firefox, cookies are enabled by default, and you do not have the option to disable them.

  • Chrome: On your iPhone, go to Settings , and then select Chrome . From there, make sure Allow Cross-Website Tracking is disabled.
  • Firefox: On your iPhone, go to Settings , and then select Firefox . From there, make sure Allow Cross-Website Tracking is disabled.

A website cookie is a small file that the website you’re visiting places in your browser. This file allows the website to recognize you as a user, which helps the site serve you with more relevant content.

A cookie is the reason you start seeing content that you're more interested in when you visit a website multiple times.

To learn more about cookies, check out our guide explaining internet cookies . It'll give you all the extra information you want about these little files.

Should I Enable or Disable Cookies on My iPhone?

Knowing how to enable or disable cookies on your iPhone is only half the battle. It doesn't help you decide whether you should choose to keep using cookies or not.

Cookies are part of what identifies you on the internet. That can lead to more personalized experiences on the web, but it also results in more tracking and data harvesting. If you value your privacy, you might want to disable cookies. But by doing so, some websites and features won't work.

Luckily, there are plenty of other steps you can take to improve the privacy of your iPhone. Another option you might want to look into is disabling ad tracking. When disabled, this ensures advertisers can’t track your activities online.

How to Enable Cookies on Your iPhone

how to allow cookies on safari iphone

Website cookies have a pretty bad reputation today, and while it is not undeserved, it's often overstated, and most sites use cookies to make their everyday use a much smoother experience. If you're finding some of your favorite sites difficult to use for reasons like needing you to log in on each visit, it may be time to turn cookies back on.

How to Enable Cookies on Safari

On your iPhone, you only have the ability to completely block cookies in Safari, so if your main browser is Chrome or Firefox, this will not fully apply to you. You can enable a setting for those browsers to allow cross-website tracking, but in general, I would not recommend this. Leaving this toggle disabled, as it is by default, shouldn't get in the way of normal site use, and turning it on allows sites to track you in ways that have benefits mostly only for those sites and the companies that own them.

Now, here's how to enable cookies in Safari:

iPhone Life

That's all there is to it. With this option disabled, sites will be able to remember your login information and preferences, but you may also be at higher risk of being tracked and other less-than-helpful uses of cookies, so be cautious and check out our guide on how to clear cookies from Safari if you think you may have visited a malicious site.

How to Enable Cookies in Safari and Microsoft Edge on iPhone

Apple’s stance on security and privacy features is laudable on iPhone, but it often leads to undesirable experiences. With developers and websites unable to access your location and other info, you may end up seeing irrelevant content when browsing on Safari or Microsoft Edge on iPhone. To see desirable content, you need to enable cookies in Safari and Microsoft Edge on iPhone. Here’s how.

Enable Cookies in Safari and Microsoft Edge on iPhone

Safari and Microsoft Edge don’t block cookies by default. But if you have disabled cookies on these browsers, it’s time to enable it again. Let’s go ahead and show you how to turn on cookies in Safari and Microsoft Edge on iPhone. After that, we will understand why browser cookies are helpful and why you need to keep them enabled on your iPhone.

Note that enabling cookies will allow advertisers and websites to collect data when you visit their web page on Safari and Edge. So, it’s a trade-off.

don't block cookies on iPhone

Now that you have enabled Cookies on your iPhone, you need to understand why cookies are essential in the browsing experience.

What Are Browser Cookies and Why Do You Need to Enable Them

Browser cookies are small files created by sites you navigate and stored on your device. They make your browsing experience easier and hassle-free. Without cookies, you will have to log in after you leave the site every time. Also, it will take longer to load pages.

Have you added a few items to the shopping cart? You must add them again if you accidentally close the tab. Cookies will help the browser remember such information.

With Cookies, sites can keep you signed in, remember your site preference (this is how the browser remembers and showcases search history), and give you locally relevant content. After all, you won’t want to see Amazon UK ads when browsing websites from the US.

In short, browser cookies are no threat to your privacy and security on iPhone. In fact, they enhance the whole browsing experience. Some websites might not work when cookies are turned off on iPhone. It’s better to keep them enabled using the steps above.

How to Enable/Disable Google Chrome Cookies?

Google Chrome, being the browser pioneer, doesn’t offer an option to disable cookies on iPhone. It’s enabled by default.

Can You Clear Cookies on iPhone?

From browser settings, you can easily clear browser cookies on iPhone. If your preferred browser is acting weird, you may consider deleting cookies and cache on your iPhone. Just remember to save any unsaved data you may have open in the browser first. You will lose it.

Wrapping Up: Enable Cookies on iPhone

In the name of security and privacy, you shouldn’t block all cookies on your iPhone. If you have disabled cookies in the past, the steps above should help you enable cookies from Safari and Microsoft Edge on iPhone. There is no way to enable or disable cookies on Chrome. It is enabled by default so you are good to go.

How to Enable Cookies on iPhone

Cookies are good, whether we're talking about eating them or enabling them for the browser!

Sakshi Garg

Cookies are getting a bad reputation these days. And everyone thinks blocking them is the way to go to protect your privacy. While it is true that many companies use unnecessary cookies to track you and then misuse this information, not all cookies are bad. Some cookies are necessary for the normal functioning of websites.

For instance, cookies can keep you signed in to websites, remember your preferences, like whether you want to allow notifications, and give you relevant local content.

What are Cookies?

Cookies are the files that a website creates to store information about you on your device. By storing information, a site can make your browsing experience better since the file lets the website identify you.

So, when you log in on a particular website and the browser keeps you signed in, it’s made possible because of cookies. Similarly, when you leave some products in your cart while online shopping and return to find them still there, it’s the cookies at work.

There are two types of cookies: first-party cookies and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are created by the sites you visit. Third-party cookies, on the other hand, are created by other sites. Whenever you visit a website, a site can create third-party cookies if it owns any content, like ads or images, on the site that you’re visiting. It’s the first-party cookies we’re interested in. They can save you a lot of time, so it’s in your interest to enable them.

How to Enable Cookies on Safari on iPhone

If you ever disabled cookies on your iPhone previously, it’s very easy to enable them again.

Open the Settings app and scroll down till you find the option for ‘Safari’. Tap it to open it.

Then, turn off the toggle for ‘Block All Cookies’.

how to allow cookies on safari iphone

There’s also an option to ‘Prevent Cross-Site Tracking’ just above it. If you want, you can keep it enabled to block third-party cookies.

How to Delete Cookies on Safari

Sometimes you might need to clear cookies on your browser when a site isn’t behaving the way it should or when you need to empty the storage space. While leaving them on is the way to go, it doesn’t hurt to clear them every once in a while. Clearing the cookies will delete your saved information, so you’ll be logged out of any sites where you were logged in.

To clear cookies, open the Settings app and go to Safari. Then, scroll down and tap the option for ‘Advanced’.

The above method deletes only cookies from your browser. There’s also a quicker option that lets you delete cookies along with browsing history, if you want to delete history as well.

How to Enable Cookies on Chrome on iPhone

If you use the Chrome browser to browse the internet on your iPhone, you don’t have to worry about cookies. Cookies are automatically enabled in Chrome and they stay on, so there’s nothing for you to fret about. In fact, if you ever want to disable the cookies, you really can’t, since there’s no option.

If you ever don’t want the browser to save cookies, you can use the Incognito mode. The browser doesn’t save any cookies and site data when you’ve gone Incognito.

How to Delete Cookies on Chrome

If you think cookies are slowing your browser, you can clear them. But clearing the cookies will sign you out of websites and delete any saved preferences.

Open the Chrome browser and tap the ‘Profile’ icon in the top-right corner to open settings.

No matter what privacy advocates may be telling you, disabling cookies isn’t the best way to browse the internet. If you don’t want a seamless experience, then by all means, go for it. But for most of us, keeping the cookies enabled is the way to go.
