Tesla is an American Hard rock and Metal band, which was formed in 1982. The band is originally from Sacramento, California.

After bassist Brian Wheat and guitarist Frank Hannon spent a few years unsuccessfully trying to get their hard rock career of the ground during the pop orientated under the name “City Kidd”, they decided to go in a different direction, when they a hired Grammy award winning producer, Duane Hitchings.

Whilst recording their debut album, they changed their name to Tesla, in homage to the legendary scientist. Their first release “Mechanical Resonance” came out in 1986, during this time the original members were joined by Jeff Keith on vocals, Tommy Skeoch on guitar and Troy Luccketta on drums. They were often lumped in with the popular glam rock bands at the time, such as Alice Cooper, which they begrudged.

It wasn’t until the release of their second album, 1989’s “The Great Radio Controversy” that the band cemented their fan base and sound. The band went on a national tour following the release of their sophomore project, before returning in 1991 with their very hard rock effort, “Psychotic Supper”.

After 1994’s “Bust A Nut” and subsequent world tour, Tesla went on hiatus, after Skeoch left due to substance abuse. Various members of the band attempted solo careers and worked on other musical projects and bands.

Six years later, they reformed for an intimate one off show in Sacramento. The success of the concert led to the permanent return of the band, and in 2004 they released their comeback album “Into The Now” which charted at number 30 in the US. They also performed on national TV for “Jimmy Kimmel Live”

Tesla have toured all over the world, and enjoyed incredible popularity and album sales, having collectively sold over 14 million records around the globe.

Live reviews

Tesla, the Californian rock quintet have been performing now for over 25 years as a unit and with the steady commercial progression of their albums, their fan base has also been steadily growing. Experts in the field of hard rock, the band are one of complete ease onstage and there is clearly nothing they love more than performing live.

With the more energy they are given from the crowd, the more intensity they play their own music. The audience proudly raises their hands above their heads for 'Hang Tough' and clap along as one whilst the group thrash out the recognisable instrumentals. Lead singer Jeff Keith snarls at the audience and taunts them into roaring with appreciation for early track 'Signs' which is a clear favourite that evokes even more moshing from the masses.

By the finale of the grammatical nightmare 'Cumin' Atcha Live', Tesla have clearly demonstrated that commerciality does not equate to fan loyalty as the UK crowds are cheering at deafening levels as the group take their last bow.

Absolutely Amazing!! Tesla if you see this you guys are still kicking ass. Band only had one more stop before they go home and wow, it was like they just started the tour. Talk about a fun group of guys having a good time and it shoes big time. I know they have been playing for years but I think they are tighter and sound better than when I saw them in '92. BTW Jeff Keith is from my home town Texarkana and went to a rival High School which is pretty cool because it is not that big.

Only thing i wish i could have made happen is getting to meet the guys. I tried to get a VIP on their website and it would just direct me to purchase concert tickets. Had a blast and hope to meet them somewhere down the road.

Tesla put on an amazing show. When the show is over I thought it was kind of short but then I looked at my watch and realize they've been on stage for over an hour and a half. On the other hand of the venue staff treated me like crap. I am in a wheelchair and every place I've gone has done amazing job helping me enjoy a Concert Experience. Mystic Lakes handicap seats don't allow you to see any of the show and none of the staff cared they were indifferent and would not work with me to find a reasonable spot and I wasn't in anyone's way but could still enjoy the show. With that said Tesla was so great I still enjoy the show even though I could only hear it

Tesla delivered yet another flawless set. The band ripped through the extensive list of hard rock hits that inspire every die-hard fan to sing along unashamedly. Throwing in a couple of tracks from the upcoming new album rounded the set nicely. The openners VOX (voices of extreme) and year of the locust did an admirable job of warming up the crowd. This writer , however, believes that reversing the order the openning bands play would benefit the overall energy of the evening. Buckhead theater is a great venue and everywhere the people were smiling, dancing and having a good time.

The band was at the top of its game! Jeff Keith & Frank Hannon, along with the other stellar members of Tesla, didn't hold back any of their entertainment abilities. This was my first Tesla show, and I wasn't disappointed. The graphic backdrops really added to the concert.

I need to add that both bands before Tesla were also fabulous. I thoroughly enjoyed Brand of Julez and Bad Marriage, especially since this was my first time also hearing them.

I look forward to seeing Tesla on tour again in the future.

I've seen Tesla so many times I can't remember.

But I do remember the first time that saw them. They opened for Great White and ever since then I've been hooked.

They are such a tight band and great bunch of guys, and they always put on a great show with lots of energy. Jeff has a distinct voice that stands out from the rest, and there music keeps bringing me back again and again.

If you're a fan of 80's hair metal, then Tesla is a must see band, and trust me, you will not be disappointed. Rock on! \m/

Well first off, It was a big sell out crowd for thunder valley, with 2 AMAZING BANDS, I am so glad it was sold out, and both bands were awesome, what a way to kick off the summer. Tesla is still in my mind one of the best bands LIVE, they sound great and always aim to please the crowd every time they perform. I highly recommend that if you have not seen Tesla, IT'S A MUST. Gonna see them on the Def Leppard bill as well. SO those of you who have not seen Tesla, Please do so. You won't be disappointed.

Great show! Tesla is always great live. They did all their great hits and a few newer songs. Theyve been doing some of those songs for 29 years because they know we love them and yet they still perform them like it's the first time. Jeff is so fun to watch and his voice sounds exactly the same as the first time I heard him in the early 90's. A special thank you for taking the time to do a Meet and Greet at the Cannery. Your fans appreciate it. Rock on!

Saw Tesla at Myrtle Beach. As always they were awesome but two opening bands was a little more than I could take.

By the time Tesla came on I could hardly stand and the crowd was getting a little out of hand...... Fights..... Took Tesla about 30 min to set up and it just took away from the concert which was standing room only...... Everyone I seen said they were in pain from standing thought 2 bands then Tesla..... Sorry...... But I still Love Tesla

What an incredible show. I was able to get up close and personal. I give the show 5 stars but as for the beer prices, $15 for a 24 oz. beer is out of control. The Aztec is over price when I can go to Alamo City Music Hall or The Rock Box down the street and get three 16 oz. beers for the same price. Great venue but the need to charge that much for a beer is unbelievable especially when it is tap beer.

10 Things You Didn’t Know about Frank Hannon

Surely you’re familiar with Frank Hannon, the lead guitarist for the band Tesla, not to be confused with Elon Musk’s Tesla car. If you listen to their music, then you already know he has a lot of talent. However, you might not know as many things about him from a more personal stance. If you want to learn more, consider these 10 things that are listed below.

1. He does a lot more than just play the guitar

You might know him best as someone who plays the guitar, but he actually does a lot more. He is a very musically inclined individual. As such, he also tries his hand at both the drums and lead vocals from time to time. He may not perform in that capacity with Tesla, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t quite talented across the board when it comes to his music.

2. He loves all forms of music

He’s always quick to point out that he loves all forms of music, not just the rock and roll that the band he founded has become so famous for. His own playlist is quite eclectic in nature. By the same token, he’s been known to perform a number of songs that most people probably wouldn’t expect him to have any interest in performing.

3. He’s quite an accomplished solo artist

If you have any doubts about his interest in various forms of music, all you have to do is listen to one of his various solo albums. In them, you will find all different forms in music. In some cases, he performs a different take on songs that have been around for ages and in other cases, the music that he performs is all original. Either way, it’s interesting. It’s also something that allows you to see a different side of him as compared to his work with Tesla.

4. He’s a family man

Perhaps the only thing that he is more passionate about than playing music is his love for his family. He and his wife have been together for some time and he is always quick to point out how close they are. He loves spending time with her. As a matter of fact, he says that the only bad thing about touring is being away from her when the two of them can’t be on the road together. Aside from that, he says he wouldn’t change a thing.

5. He actively mentors up-and-coming artists

He dedicates a great deal of his time to mentoring up-and-coming artists, something that relatively few well-established stars do. He vividly remembers how difficult it was for him to get started in the music business and what he had to go through in order to become a success. He wants to help mentor other individuals so that they don’t have to go through the same types of things that he did.

6. He loves to ride horses

He has loved horses for the majority of his life. For a number of years, he has been riding almost every second that he could find time to do so. In fact, he and his wife own a number of horses. This allows them to ride whenever they have the time to do so and it affords them the luxury of spending time together doing something that they are both genuinely interested in.

7. He and his wife have built a life around their horses

As it turns out, his interest in riding horses isn’t just a passing interest after all. As a matter of fact, both he and his wife have gone on the competitive circuit for a number of years, with cutting horses. They’re both quite talented in their own right and it’s something that they enjoy doing together. When he’s not touring with his band, this also gives him the ability to travel with her for an entirely different reason. It gives them something to look forward to and it keeps things interesting so that they can focus on things other than music.

8. He likes craft beer- a lot

One of his favorite things is craft beer, especially when that beer has been handcrafted by friends of his specifically for him. Anyone that has ever doubted his enjoyment of it only has to take a quick look at his social media pages in order to be reminded of this fact. He has long commented that one of his favorite things to do is to drink craft beer that is unique to his desires alone, something that isn’t readily available on the shelves of any store.

9. He has his own podcast

As part of his desire to mentor other artists, he also has his own podcast, something that he publishes himself. It is one more way that he can put his own advice out there for a larger audience. While he makes a desire to personally mentor everyone that he can, he was always worried that certain people would fall through the cracks. The creation of his podcast gives him the ability to mentor other people, albeit indirectly. It also gives him a platform from which to speak about things that are important to him.

10. He’s making his way back from a COVID diagnosis

Many fans grew worried when he missed a couple of performance dates with Tesla back in the early part of August. Adding to their worries was the fact that there was very little information coming from him or anyone personally near him. In fact, there was no information at all that was being put forth. Unfortunately, he had come down with COVID and was suffering some fairly extreme symptoms ranging from fever and chills to difficulty breathing. Eventually, he made a post about it on one of his social media pages, reassuring fans that he would be back on tour as soon as it was safe to do so. At the moment, a lot of performance dates have been postponed because he and several members of the band and crew were diagnosed with it. Fortunately, he seems to be doing much better now.

MONSTERS OF ROCK®

The Monsters of Rock  festival debuted in 1980 at Castle Donington with heavy metal pioneers Rainbow, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Saxon and more. This kicked off a string of 15 plus years with such rock and roll giants including, AC/DC, Slayer, Guns N' Roses, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leppard and Metallica.

Since the new millennium, the Monsters of Rock brand returned to playing major international landmarks  including Como, Italy, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Santiago, Chile, and Sao Paolo, Brazil to name a few.

As the audiences will attest, new waves of metal fans are indoctrinated each year by  Monsters of Rock.

Concerts in the Park 2022

Concerts in the Park is Almost Here!

California’s largest free music festival is officially returning to downtown Sacramento! This upcoming season marks our 29 th year hosting Concerts in the Park! We are BEYOND excited for all these renound performers to rock the stage and get us groovin’ and movin’!

Concerts will be held every Friday from 5-9 PM starting May 6 until July 29 at the Cesar Chavez Plaza. Concerts in the Park is free, but for a limited time we’re offering a giveaway to dinner at a downtown restaurant if you RSVP! Register by clicking HERE!

Lineup Information

We’ve got a ton of bands performing this year! Check out our headliners below and follow their pages for tour dates, new song releases, and their shared experience of #CIPSAC this year.

• Red Voodoo – this Sacramento-based musical gang is prepared to take on the world with their presentation collection “BRING IT BACK” created by Tesla’s guitarist, Frank Hannon. Red Voodoo’s sound is roused by musical gangs like Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, Boston, and Rush.
• Nate Curry – Nate is a rapper/singer/songwriter/producer based out of the Sacramento area. He started recording/performing at the age of three. His father was in a rap group called “The Cuf’ and they’d always have Nate around the studio or jumping on stage at their shows.
• Arden Park Roots – Arden Park Roots focuses on the aspect of mixing surf, rock, and reggae music all in one!

• Slenderbodies – Slenderbodies is a Californian pop duo that pulls inspiration from their lives, from the stories they’re told, and from the state of the world. Both have very active imaginations, so creating worlds and stories within the music is very important to them. On a musical front, they pull heavy inspiration from Radiohead, Sade, Beach Boys, and many contemporary artists.
• Bob Moses – Bob Moses is an electronic duo that specializes in deep house, dance, and electronic music.
• Jessica Malone – Jessica is a solo acoustic songbird that transformed into a rambunctious & rollicking award-winning songwriter. She takes listeners on a journey that culminates somewhere between self-discovery and reverie.

• Wilderado – Wilderado is an American indie-folk band originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States, and based in Los Angeles California. The band was first signed to Iamsound Records but is now signed to Bright Antenna Records.
• The Expendables – The Expendables are an American reggae-rock band from Santa Cruz, California.
• Picturesque – This American rock quartet injected pop melody into their aggressive post-hardcore delivery when they started in 2014.
• Nappy Roots – Nappy Roots is an American alternative Southern rap quartet. The group met in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1995 while attending Western Kentucky University.
• Cannons – Cannons are an American indie pop band formed in 2013 in Los Angeles. The band consists of lead vocalist Michelle Joy, guitarist Ryan Clapham, and keyboardist and bassist Paul Davis.
• Mod Sun – Derek Ryan Smith, known professionally as Mod Sun, is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and rapper from Bloomington, Minnesota. He has released four solo studio albums, three EPs, six mixtapes, and 31 singles.

Our full bar menu consists of a variety of beers, cocktails, and more! We have four colored tokens which are equivalent to different drinks. Purple tokens are $12 each and can be used to purchase cocktails.

We’ll be serving:

• Cocktails including: Margaritas, Moscow mules, and blood-orange vodka sodas
• Premium beer including: Space Dust IPA, Stella Artois, and a black cherry seltzer
• Domestic beer including: Bud Light and Longboard Island Lager and Big Wave

Enjoy a night out on the town

After the concert is over, there will be an after-party calling your name! Every night after the concert you can go to one of our selected bars downtown. Show you Bud Light wristband from the concert and get drink specials at the bar throughout the night.

Invite the entire family

One of the best things about Concerts in the Park is that everyone is invited! All ages are encouraged to come and enjoy this free event. We’ve got a diversity of food ranging from sweet to savory, as well as drinks for everyone 21+. This includes beer, cocktails, and wine, which all can be used to purchase by exchanging drink tokens.
