Product ratings & reviews.
Great spin/power racquet for experienced players. I used to compete with it and it sure helped with that; however, the extra weight isn't for the faint of heart.
this racquet has really helped me get a lot more spin with each shot, its great from the baseline or at the net, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their game
Heavy enough to let me plow through each shot, but also lets me control the ball and pace
perfect for advance player, very good for spin.
The second the racket was in my hands I knew it was the one.

Babolat Pure Aero Review – A Spin-Friendly Racquet
We’ll start with the standard version of the Babolat Pure Aero. Below are the specifications and on-court performance you should expect from this racquet.
Babolat Pure Aero Racquet Specifications
- Weight: 11.2 oz. strung
- Head Size: 100 square inches
- Length: 27 inches
- Balance: 329.9 mm
- String Pattern: 16 x 19
Similar to other Babolat racquet reviews , we found the Pure Aero to be head light, sturdy, and easy to control. The most popular model, the Pure Aero, weighs 11.2 ounces strung (or 318 grams). Made of graphite, this tennis racquet is a standard 27 inches long.
The racquet head on the Pure Aero is 100 square inches, making it great for any skill level . The frame design combines power and speed. With a thick design for power, Babolat also focused on aerodynamics to generate maximum racquet head speed and spin.
Compare the Pure Aero with our list of the best intermediate tennis racquets .
The Pure Aero Helps Create Maximum Spin & Plenty of Power
While much of Nadal’s spin mostly comes from his strength and technique, it also comes from the design of the Babolat Pure Aero. The aerodynamic shape and open string design (delivered by the FSI Spin technology) provide maximum spin. The Pure Aero is one of the top 8 tennis racquets for spin .
If you want to hit deep heavy groundstrokes, with lots of power and spin, there’s no better racquet on the market.
If in potent hands, the Pure Aero efficiently delivers deadly spins from the baseline that will drive the opponent way back behind the baseline. When paired with heavy hitters, the Pure Aero provides surreal spins not only on forehands and groundstrokes, but while serving too. You’ll be able to hit that kick serve that takes the opponent off the court.
The open string pattern grabs the ball on all your shots to create spin. Hit the ball in the sweet spot and the racquet will make adding topspin to your shots effortless.
If there’s one thing the Babolat Pure Aero does as well as generate spin, it’s creating power. Though these racquets are lightweight, the large frame design provides great power for any skill level tennis player. The Pure Aero is one of the top 7 tennis racquets for power .
There’s no racquet out there that can create as much spin and power as this one. If you’re a baseliner, who wants to move your opponent around with big groundstrokes, this is for you. The ability of Pure Aero to absorb the ball’s impact and catapult in a given direction is quite astonishing.
This is all possible to do with the well-crafted graphite frame and open-string patterns. For a racquet with even more power that is less spin-friendly, see our Babolat Pure Drive review .
The Pure Aero is Great for Serves & Groundstrokes
The Pure Aero performs well on both groundstrokes and serves.
- On groundstrokes, the Ultra is easy to swing, and explosive on contact. The racquet offers top-tier spin as well.
- On volleys, the racquet isn’t great at defending fast-paced shots but holds its own at the net.
- On returns, the Pure Aero will generate good power to attack second serves. Defending against big servers will be a bit more difficult.
- On serves, this racquet performs well. It will maximize your power and spin so you can hit flat, slice, or kick serves with ease.
Reviewing Other Versions of the Babolat Pure Aero
The other versions of the Pure Aero are better for players of a lower skill level.

Babolat Pure Drive Tour 2021 (315g)
The racket specifically designed for players who want to give their game more power .
Pure Power, maneuverability and maximal feel
The Babolat Pure Drive has been Babolat’s mythical product for the past 20 years!
In 1994, Babolat makes its debut in the tennis racket world: the first-ever Pure Drive surprises with its blue color, lightness and power.
In 1998, Carlos Moya’s French Open victory brings the racket to the spotlight. This is the start of a series of victories and the making of a legend for a racket that suits many players, whether they are world #1 or a young club player.
With the same DNA that has made it one of the best selling rackets in the world, Babolat introduces in 2021 the new generation Pure Drive featuring optimal power and feel to allow players to unleash their game with confidence.
With the Pure Drive, Carlos Moya, Andy Roddick, Kim clijsters and Li Na walk away with impressive Grand Slam wins and live the legend of tennis.
Babolat adds another chapter to the game's most iconic modern player's racquet. As with previous versions of the Pure Drive , this update keeps the same easy learning curve and explosive spec profile that has attracted generations of players. Updated with Babolat's new HTR System , the Pure Drive's graphite layup has been reengineered for higher torsional rigidity, resulting in more efficient energy transfer to the ball. To help with vibration dampening, Babolat has devoted more space in the shaft to SWX Pure Feel , a thin and extremely flexible viscoelastic rubber that sits between the racquet's carbon layers. Additional features include FSI Power Technology , which optimizes the grommet system and string spacing for higher levels of power and spin. On court, this racquet's explosive acceleration and spin-friendly targeting make it a dangerous weapon from the baseline. It also packs impressive all-court mobility, making it great for cranking winners on the run or charging into the front court and finishing points at net. Although not the most stable member in the Pure Dive franchise, this update won't disappoint in stock form, especially if you place a premium on quick handling. With incremental tweaks to the feel, the Pure Drive continues to be one of the best options for those who want a light and explosive player's racquet.

Introducing the most surgical member of the Pure Aero family
Babolat adds another chapter to the most controlled and surgical member of the Pure Aero family. Formerly called the Pure Aero VS, the Pure Aero 98 gives big hitters a powerfully precise weapon. Compared to the standard Pure Aero, this racquet features a more compact head along with a denser string pattern and a thinner, more flexible beam. The payoff is extra control, which comes in handy on bigger cuts or when targeting the lines. That said, this stick still packs enough pop to put your opponent in check. For 2023 Babolat adds NF² Technology which uses flax inserts at 3/9 in the head to soften ball impact. Babolat also updates its FSI Spin technology with slightly tighter string spacing. The result is greater control (and confidence) when maximizing stroke speed in the service of power and spin. With some nice updates to the response, the Pure Aero 98 delivers the spin and power of a modern player's racquet but with the control and feel needed to fully engage with your targets.
Pros endorsing/using this racquet.

Babolat Pure Aero Tennis Racket (2023)
String upgrade options, mains string, crosses string, stencil upgrade.
Have your racket painted with one of our custom stencils. Choose 'No Thanks' to have the default manufacturers logo.
The greatness of the Pure Aero continues with Babolat's 2023 line. The all new Pure Aero is here for a whole new generation of players on and off the tour! With its "best of class" combination of speed, spin and power, the Pure Aero is one of the most popular and versatile racquets ever made. This is the most versatile racket in the whole range at 300g making it the most suitable racket for players seeking power and control alike.
Babolat adds strategically-placed NF²-Tech flax inserts at the 3 o’clock, 9 o’clock, and handle positions for optimal shock absorption on this powerful frame. These natural flax fibers are carefully integrated into the frame to create the most feel and sensation yet. An added bonus: extra sound quality for that satisfying pop and an exceptional playing experience.
Designed to be the ultimate spin frame, the new Pure Aero helps you generate massive spin with even more stability and precision. Thanks to SMAC's upgraded SMACWRAP technology, Babolat have developed new Cortex Pure Feel , which the new Pure Aero now has at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock in the racket head, rather than just in the throat like the previous Pure Aero and AeroPro Drive. This provides better vibration dampening thanks to the integrated Cortex in the graphite.
This version of the Pure Aero is the most popular in the range thanks to the 300g weight, making it the most suitable for club players that are seeking power and optimal spin.
Additionally, the new Pure Aero also uses the faster racket head speed to give you a purer feeling and longer contact time between the ball and the string. Babolat's signature AeroModular technology has also been upgraded to AeroModular3 for the new Pure Aero; integrating the bumper and grommets with an optimised design to maintain the Pure Aero's signature fast head speeds and provide you with more spin. The new Pure Aero also uses a new generation of FSI Spin to increase your spin. The 16x19 string pattern and oblong shaped grommets at 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock in the racket head allows the ball to have a wider string interaction, which matches superbly with the longer contact time generated by Babolat's Woofer system that gives you a great feeling and superior control and comfort with every swing.
Ultimately, this results in a racket that matches the legendary firmer, purer feeling of the AeroPro Drive with the simply incredible sound and playability of the Pure Aero when you connect with the ball, making it the reference racket for players that use spin to dominate their opponents and a sensational weapon out on the court.
History of the Pure Aero
" When we understood how strong he would be, we decided to build a new racket completely adapted to his game. A racket that focuses on power and spin " - Eric Babolat, CEO of Babolat.
The history of the Pure Aero (originally known as the AeroPro Drive) is inextricably linked with that of Rafael Nadal, one of sport's greatest champions. Representing the unique relationship between Babolat and Rafa, the original AeroPro Drive was developed to provide Rafa with a racket that focused on power and spin. With its famous aerodynamic section, the AeroPro Drive was designed to be the 'Nadal racket' and has evolved to become an iconic part of the game. Babolat has added in Carbonplystabilizer to the Pure Aero Tour which is powered by Chomarat. This new addition to the Pure Aero Tour is a new generation of high-performance carbon fibers for more control and stability on every shot. The 2019 Pure Aero Tour also features an even better feel thanks to a technological partnership with SMAC, an innovative French aerospace company. For optimal vibration absorption, Babolat integrated SMACWRAP technology (thin viscoelastic rubber) placed at the 3 & 9 o’clock on the new Pure Aero Tour, this ensures players with the best possible feel and comfort.
The Babolat Pure Aero Tour is the heaviest racquet in the new Pure Aero racquet line. At 100 square inches, 315g un strung, and a 16×19 string pattern - the all-new Pure Aero Tour will create massive spin with even more stability and precision.

Babolat Pure Aero Tour Testbericht
