Used by the terminal operator to call up a list of requests by container barges, in the Barge Traffic System (BTS). This unique electronic planning platform makes it much easier to plan your terminal operations.

Container barges frequently call at more than one terminal during a port visit. To simplify the administration for a port visit, a unique electronic planning platform, the Barge Traffic System (BTS), was set up in 2007.

How does it work?

The Barge Traffic System web application enables barge operators to request a berth reservation for one or more terminals in order to load or unload containers. A terminal that serves container barges in turn can use this application to approve, update or refuse berth requests. A conflict control system alerts the terminals if the estimated time of arrival is not feasible, taking into account the estimated handling time and the average time taken to get from one terminal to another. This makes scheduling easier for the terminal operator. If necessary the terminals can coordinate their schedules.

Corporate systems can exchange XML messages with BTS by means of machine-to-machine communication.

Fourth Quarter 2023 Fares Increase 4.6%, Adjusted for Inflation, from Previous Quarter

The 2023 annual average domestic itinerary air fare of $382 decreased 3.1% from the 2022 inflation-adjusted annual fare of $394.

Unadjusted  Annual 2023 fare: $382 From previous year: Up 0.9% from 2022 ($378) All years: Down 3.8% from the highest fare for any year, $396 in 2014 Start of BTS records in 1995: Up 30.6% ($292) (compared to 99.9% consumer price index increase) Recent low: Up 30.54% from 2020 ($292)

• Up 4.6% from 3Q 2023 ($368) 
• Down 9.6% from 4Q 2019 ($426)

Buried LNER train dug up 430 miles away from Yorkshire

A historic Yorkshire train has been uncovered by a team of archaeologists working in Belgium.

LNER is based in York, here in Yorkshire, with services provided up and down the East Coast Mainline from London to Edinburgh. While its trains have no reason to travel outside of England and Scotland, one appears to have made its way both to Europe, and underground.

The historic train was dug up from the ground by archaeologists working near the Belgian city of Antwerp.

LNER have also been contacted by the team who found the wagon and have provided some information as to what it could be. According to them, it looks like a removals cart used to carry belongings - like a removals van - as people moved home.

They also believe the wagon is around a hundred years old. However, they are just as confused as anyone as to how the carriage managed to make its way all the way to Antwerp.

Sadly, much of the wagon disintegrated as it was excavated, meaning there is little left to examine. LNER Communications Director Stuart Thomas said: "We’re fascinated by the history of our brand - just last year we celebrated 100 years since the LNER came into being in 1923. In our 101st year it’s incredible to discover a little bit of LNER history has been buried in a field in Belgium for so many decades."
