It is all started late 2015, in a local bar in the city center of Apeldoorn. While enjoying some good times with my best friends, we discussed the potential of some ‘new’ luxury business in the current tourism market. Something new, personal but most important; something that would make a real impact on our clients.

Row upon row of colourful houses; a network of waterways winding their way through the city; and elegant Golden Age architecture. The capital of the Netherlands really does seem to have it all.

It’s not all about looks though, as Amsterdam is chock-a-block with world-class museums including the Rijkamuseum with more than 8,000 pieces of art. The Van Gogh museum celebrates the life and work of one of the country’s most famous artists and in case you thought the city wasn’t keeping pace, the Stedelijk museum houses an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art.

One of the joys of the city is simply wandering through the pretty streets and along the canals. Be sure to look up and admire the iconic gabled facades of the houses and visit the ancient churches and synagogues. Amsterdam is not short on magnificent monuments either; the picture-perfect De Haar Castle, complete with turrets, ramparts and a drawbridge, and the Royal Palace on Dam Square are just a few examples of the city’s impressive architecture.

Navigating the city is easy thanks to the scores of bridges that criss cross the canals. Arches stretch elegantly from one side to the other and as evening falls, many of the bridges are illuminated, creating channels of glittering water. Locals can more often than not be found travelling on two wheels, so hop on a bicycle and enjoy disappearing down alleyways and discovering your own favourite spots.

Green fingered or not, seeing the famous Dutch tulips is part and parcel of any trip to Amsterdam; they will start to flower from January with the nearby bulb fields exploding into colour from March to May.

Since 2004 I have been part of the HEX family in some way. Coming and going through the years – but always returning. This time in a new way –  I have the possibility to work from my hometown Porvoo, Finland in my own little office –  I’m in daily contact with my lovely colleagues, and of course travelling to Amsterdam often to meet up and see new places.

I am a Swedish speaking Finn – meaning I speak Moomin.

It is great to be able to help groups from all the Nordic countries in nearly their own language.

I love this job – it is so interesting to learn something new on daily basis and to use that knowledge for the groups, so that they can have an unforgettable time in the Netherlands or Belgium.

In my free time I love to travel and meet friends and family. Good food & beverage are also a big part of my free time. Both cooking at home or going out. You can easily say that I enjoy life!

I joined the HEX Travel team in November 2007 after meeting the love of my life! To cut a long story short – Swedish girl meets Aussie bloke in Spain and moves to live with him in Holland. I was lucky enough to be an old colleague of Tuija. Coming to work here was a dream come true for me. That doesn’t mean the work isn’t challenging; it is – but in a really good way. You’ve got be on the ball! Information constantly needs updating and every group is different, which means that no one day is quite like another. This really suits me!

I now live in the pretty town of Alkmaar which looks like a miniature Amsterdam and is famous for the huge cheese market that it holds every Friday during the summer months. The combination of working in the big city and living in a town is ideal for me. When I’m not working I travel a lot and each summer I visit the San Fermin festival in Pamplona – Olé! I also love sport and am a proud season ticket holder of the football club in Alkmaar, AZ.

The reason for starting HEX Travel was simple – I wanted a job where I could help people! And the fulfilment I now get from helping people to visit Holland is deeply rewarding. This really is the best job you can imagine! It all began when I first came here; I just fell in love with Holland, a life-long affair.

There’s so many possibilities and so much creativity in this small country – made from the oceans- that I wanted to share with everyone. I come from a hotel and sales background so it’s great to be able to recommend a hotel when you actually know how things work. I just love my work, my team and I think is a great privilege to have an office on one of the most beautiful canals in Amsterdam!

But believe me when I say, we have worked very hard to be where we are! In my spare time I usually jump on my mountain bike and enjoy the fantastic dunes of North Holland! If there’s snow anywhere, I will probably hit the slopes in Austria or Lapland.

I definitely recommend this tour. My only issue was my tour guide David H. He always disappeared and creeped me out a little too. But other than that it was an amazing time! The tour was a great experience! We met people for different parts of the world and it was really fun. They picked some great locations for everyone to stay with breakfast included. I would suggest adding pre/post accommodations because it does feel rushed. I got to spend two extra days in Amsterdam before the trip and got to do what I wanted to do and see in AMS. When the tour started it took the whole morning and afternoon so I definitely recommend spending some nights before to get a good feel of the city. Going to Brussels was fun, we just stopped to visit the city center on our way to France and it was really beautiful and got to see the blood of Jesus. We also stayed 2 extra nights in Paris and got to see and go to the famous museums (Louvre, Opera House, Catacombs, and go to the top of the Eiffel Tower). Overall fun experience and definitely suggest this tour.

Just a few comments.: Tour was great. Lynda and Eric did a terrific job. 1) not sure what’s with the name “ cost saver” branding. But I’m embarrassed to tell people I booked a cost saver tour. Makes it sound like I cheaped out and bought a low budget tour. Which it wasn’t Stick with Trafalgar. It’s “known” and trusted 2) I wish there were exceptions to age limits for the contiki tours. My daughter 18 and I (46) took this tour. I’m an active person participating in. Triathlons. I found many of the activities on this tour geared towards those who were inactive or had limited mobility Wanted more active things to do. Three or 4 sitting down river cruises. Although pleasant is a lot of similar/repetitive activities. Hope you can design some tours for us active middle agers Lynda implemented a daily seat rotation. That is a very fair idea. I hope it’s done on all tours. It would have been nice if we had the forethought to take a group photo at some point in our tour. Our group never did. Maybe add this to the agenda for tour directors
