What I Feel after Visiting Mysore Zoo – Personal experience

I’ve been fortunate to visit the Mysore Zoo more than five times in my life. Living in Mysore, it’s been a part of my journey from childhood. On a sunny afternoon, I decided to visit this beloved place once more, and here’s what I want to share with you.

To get to the Mysore Zoo, I hopped onto bus number 201 at the city bus stand. The bus journey itself is quite an adventure. It starts at the city bus stand, goes through the zoo, and then continues up to the majestic Chamundi Hills. The best part? It’s an AC bus, and the ticket cost is just ₹15.

Once I reached the zoo, I noticed they’ve changed the entrance gate. It’s no longer the direct roadside entrance. Now, you’ll find it along an underpass road leading to the parking area.

One tip I have for visitors is to plan your zoo visit in the morning or after 3 p.m. Why? Well, during my sunny afternoon visit, most of the animals preferred staying in the shade. So, if you want to catch them in action, those are the best times.

Now, let’s talk about the stars of the show – the animals. The Mysore Zoo is home to a fascinating variety of creatures. From near-extinct species to the majestic white tiger, the lazy lion, the swift jaguar, the crazy gorilla, the beautiful peacock, and the funny elephants, each one has a story to tell.

One of the highlights of my visit was taking a selfie with a cheetah. There’s a protective glass partition, but it’s so lifelike that it feels as if you’re right there with the cheetah.

I can’t help but admire the vision of the King of Mysore who established this zoo. His foresight in creating this beautiful garden, allotting land, and ensuring its maintenance is truly commendable.

It’s worth mentioning that a leisurely walk around the zoo can take around 3 hours, so if you prefer not to walk, you can opt for an electric transport vehicle available inside.

In conclusion, my visit to the Mysore Zoo was a fantastic experience. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Mysore. It’s a place where the charm of nature meets the legacy of the past, creating unforgettable memories for all who explore its grounds.

Over the decades, the zoo has been transformed significantly. With its inception, it covered a mere 10 acres; now, it spans over 157 acres . Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens

Mysore zoo, mysore overview.

Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, also known as the Mysore Zoo is one of the best zoological gardens in India. Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar established this Zoo in the year 1892 for the Royals. Furthermore, after the attainment of freedom, it was handed over to the Department of Parks and Gardens of the State Govt. The Zoo's meticulous planning is responsible for making it a special zoological garden. It tends to create a natural habitat for the animals in it. From Big to small cats, Aquatic to terrestrial birds, and Primates to reptiles, one Hundred and Sixty-Eight species find their place in this zoo. The world's first caesarian section delivery performed on an elephant in Mysore zoo gave it global fame and recognition.

Located near the palace in Mysore, The Zoological Garden covers an area of 157 acres. It is one of the oldest and most famous zoos in India. It plays the role of an orphanage to the abandoned animals. Various exhibitions are regularly held here with an insect exhibition stealing the show. Following this, the Zoo carries forward certain Education Programmes such as Youth Club activities, Literary Competitions, and Summer Camp activities. The Karanji Lake was put under Zoo jurisdiction in 1976 and since has been a calm and serene place for boating.

Safari World

The zoo according to me was the best part of the trip. It had animals from all over the world like cheetah, lemurs, capuchins, pocket monkeys etc. The entry fee is Rs.50. There are electric cars out there. You could hire them for an hour at Rs.125. Those cars are really slow so you can get down, take snaps and get back on as you move past the cages. Overall I loved it.

visit late afternoon. Animals asleep at midday 60rp for foreigner. Small fence for tiger enclosure!!! 3+ km trail around the zoo very nice.

Many cages are empty, the toilet facility needs drastic and immediate improvement, besides no food court inside the zoo premises.

This is my 7th Zoo visit and without any doubt i will confirm it that mysore zoo is the best maintained out of all. Everything starting from Roads, washrooms, sitting arrangement and animals are kept in good condition. There are not many variety of animals in the zoo,nor it has a good safari or boating facility, but the zoo will not let you down. It has few exciting concepts for watching birds and swans. The place doesn't makes you walk too much which is a big advantage compared to other zoo's. Note:- There is no food facility inside the zoo (baring a ice cream parlor). If you have been to Assam Zoo or Nandankanan Zoo in particular then you need to enter the zoo with a empty mind .The zoo is excellent but certainly not the best in India.

The Giraffes are the best . we visit them every time we go to Mysore Its nice to see they have little ones too Now in Sep 2014 and the battery cars are a boon for people who cannot walk.

Excellent and well maintained zoo. Maintenance is very good, almost all animals looks healthy. Must visit place for children.
