- Ensure your travel ID and boarding pass are easily accessible. You’ll be required to present them straightaway.
- You’ll have to put your tunes on pause for a few minutes. Earphones need to be taken off and placed in a bin for X-raying. The same goes for items such as coins and keys.
- Make sure your phone, laptop and other electronic devices are within reach. These items need to be sent through the X-ray machine in separate tubs.
- When you get to the security checkpoint, you’ll be asked to put all liquids, gels and creams in a separate bin for inspection. Make sure they’re all in containers smaller than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and sealed in a clear zip-lock bag.
- Give some thought to the type of footwear you want to fly in. Slippers are awesome because they’re a piece of cake to remove for the airport security checks. Try wearing some on your next flight!
- Some places have stringent biosecurity laws. Think about where you’re headed to and whether or not it’s permissible to fly with fresh fruit and meat.
How to find cheap flights
What is the best day to buy a plane ticket.
Airfares offered on Friday tend to be the cheapest, according to flight demand on Travelocity.ca in 2021. Purchasing your airfares on a Thursday or Saturday can also provide better value, however our advice if you’re looking to save money is to avoid booking on a Wednesday or Sunday. Our data shows that those two days have the highest ticket values on average, so keep this in mind if you’re browsing flight deals.
What are the cheapest days to fly?
Frequent travellers may already know this, earlier in the week is often the cheapest time to fly. Flights departing on a Monday are the cheapest of the week. Since flights towards the middle of the week tend to be more popular, this causes the prices to rise. This is why, on average, airfares booked on Travelocity.ca in 2021 were most expensive for Wednesday departures.
How far in advance can you book a flight?
Here’s the deal: It is typically possible to start comparing international airfares on Travelocity.ca up to 12 months in advance. However, it does depend on the carrier as not all airlines release their prices that far out. According to our 2021 flight demand trends, last minute planners can still bag a bargain with some of the cheapest fares appearing 2-4 weeks prior to their travel dates.
*According to flight demand on Travelocity.ca from January to December 2021. Savings are subject to change and may vary depending on selections made.

At Senate hearing, witnesses allege manufacturing shortcuts, cover-ups at Boeing
A Boeing quality engineer testified Wednesday on Capitol Hill that he has “serious concerns” about the safety of the company’s 787 Dreamliner and 777 airplanes and that his bosses have ignored his warnings.
Meanwhile, aviation safety advocates accused Boeing of cover-ups following the January incident in which a door plug broke off a Boeing 737 Max 9 plane operated by Alaska Airlines and deadly crashes in 2018 and 2019, also involving 737 Max planes.
What You Need To Know
A boeing quality engineer testified wednesday on capitol hill that he has “serious concerns” about the safety of the company’s 787 dreamliner and 777 airplanes and that his bosses have ignored his warnings meanwhile, aviation safety advocates accused boeing of cover-ups following the january incident in which a door plug broke off a boeing 737 max 9 plane operated by alaska airlines and deadly crashes in 2018 and 2019, also involving 737 max planes the hearing by the senate homeland security subcommittee on investigations focused on what it called “boeing’s broken safety culture" also wednesday, the senate commerce committee heard from four members of an faa expert panel that issued a scathing report about boeing’s safety culture.
The hearing by the Senate Homeland Security Subcommittee on Investigations focused on what it called “Boeing’s broken safety culture.”
Sam Salehpour, the Boeing engineer who has become a whistleblower, said the company has taken manufacturing shortcuts that have compromised the safety of its planes. He said it used excessive force to push the major joints of 787s together to give the illusion that gaps between the parts do not exist. He said he’s concerned that, over time, the plane could break apart in mid-flight.
“Effectively, they are putting out defective airplanes,” he charged.
In an interview with NBC News that aired Tuesday , Salehpour said he believes all 787 Dreamliners should be grounded.
Salehpour, who has filed complaints with the Federal Aviation Administration, said he produced reports for Boeing management that went ignored and that his follow-up inspections found the issues were not addressed 98.7% of the time.
He said the company retaliated against him by transferring him to the 777 program, where he found problems there as well, including “severe misalignment when the planes were assembled.”
“I literally saw people jumping on the pieces of the airplane to get them to align,” he said. “I call it the Tarzan effect.”
Salehpour said he’s been “sidelined” at Boeing, “told to shut up” and “received physical threats.”
“My boss said, ‘I would have killed someone who said what you said in the meeting,’” he said.
Ed Pierson, executive director of The Foundation for Aviation Safety, told lawmakers that the manufacturing conditions that led to the 737 Max crashes — one off the coast of Indonesia, the other in Ethiopia — continue today. Three hundred forty-six people died in those crashes.
“The world is shocked to learn about Boeing’s current production quality issues,” said Pierson, a former Boeing manager. “I’m not surprised because nothing changed after the two crashes.
“Unless action is taken and leaders are held accountable, every person stepping aboard a Boeing airplane is at risk.”
Pierson accused Boeing of lying to the National Transportation Safety Board when it said it has no records documenting the removal of the door on the Alaska Airlines plane.
“I’m not going to sugarcoat this: This is a criminal cover-up,” he said. “Records do, in fact, exist. I know this because I’ve personally passed them to the FBI.”
Joe Jacobsen, an aerospace engineer and technical adviser for The Foundation for Aviation Safety, accused Boeing of moving forward with the 737 Max despite it having what he called a “serious design flaw.” Jacobsen, a former FAA engineer, said Boeing hid the design of its Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, or MCAS, from the FAA because it feared the regulator would mandate additional certification and training.
MCAS, a new automated software at the time, automatically pushed a plane’s nose down, contributing to both crashes.
“Had we known, at least a half dozen experienced FAA engineers in the Seattle office would have immediately rejected the original MCAS design,” Jacobsen said. “Boeing’s concealment led to two crashes and 346 deaths.”
Jacobsen also accused Boeing — with the FAA’s support — of narrowing the scope of recertifying the 737 Maxes, which had been grounded worldwide after the crashes, to the MCAS while ignoring “other critical items.”
“I’ve spent almost 40 years studying and trying to eliminate aviation accidents,” he said. “Ignoring problems, taking shortcuts and deceiving the public just leads to more crashes.”
No representatives from Boeing were present at the hearing. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., the subcommitte’s chairman, said he expects Boeing CEO David Calhoun to appear for questioning at a future hearing.
In statements to Spectrum News, Boeing said, “Extensive and rigorous testing of the (787 Dreamliner) fuselage and heavy maintenance checks of nearly 700 in-service airplanes to date have found zero evidence of airframe fatigue.” It added that it is “fully confident” in the safety of 787 Dreamliner and 777 airplanes.
Boeing added that retaliation against whistleblowers is “strictly prohibited.”
Jacobsen told lawmakers he thinks more inspectors are needed on site at Boeing but added that “the attitude needs to change” at the company.
“The attitude right now is Boeing dictates to the FAA, tells the FAA what they will do, what they will accept. And that needs to change,” he said.
Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, the top Republican on the subcommittee, called Wednesday’s testimony “troubling.”
“We have to be concerned about what’s happening,” he said. “And we’ve got to get the bottom of this.”
Blumenthal said the panel’s focus is to restore Boeing’s reputation of being a company that “once was preeminent in engineering and safety.”
“Our goal is not to drive Boeing to fail,” he said. “In fact, just the opposite: We want and need Boeing to succeed.”
In February, an FAA expert panel issued a scathing report about Boeing’s safety culture . It found that, despite improvements made after the Max crashes, Boeing’s safety culture remains flawed and employees who raise concerns could be subject to pressure and retaliation.
The Senate Commerce Committee heard from four members of that panel in a separate hearing Wednesday.
One witness, MIT aeronautics lecturer Javier de Luis, lost his sister when a Boeing 737 Max 8 crashed in Ethiopia in 2019. De Luis commented on the disconnect between Boeing management’s words about safety and what workers observe on the factory floor.
“They hear, ‘Safety is our No. 1 priority,’” he said. “What they see is that’s only true as long as your production milestones are met, and at that point it’s ‘Push it out the door as fast as you can.’”
Boeing said Wednesday it takes the FAA review “to heart and will act on their findings and feedback.”
“Since 2020, Boeing has taken important steps to foster a safety culture that empowers and encourages all employees to raise their voice,” the company said. “We know we have more work to do and we are taking action across our company.

Flight delayed about 2 hrs so it made it a VERY late night
On 2 different flights the wifi was horrible and there was no drink or snack service.
MSP to Atlanta was much better than Atlanta to St. Kitts. Paid $180 each for myself and wife for Delta comfort from Atlanta to St. Kitts. Seats were more narrow and obviously old and worn out. Tailbone is killing me. Seat would not recline. Seats behind reclined and we were not an exit row or in front of an exit row. Entertainment did not work in that the movie jumped forward and back and there was no audio. The plug in the arm rest was loose. Flight attendant tried “resetting” the video for my seat but no good. She never checked back. Someone else near me had the same issue. Touch screen was unresponsive. No where near as comfortable as MSP to Atlanta flight. 3 plus hrs. flight time without the basic amenities and not even remotely close to comfortable but paid for Comfort plus. I will be very disappointed if I have the same on my return “Comfort Plus” flight St. Kitts to Atlanta. At the very least my wife and I should be refunded for round trip “Comfort Plus” charges. Please feel free to contact me directly for more details.
The seats are too hard for long flights but otherwise- the process was smooth, the staff attentive, and there was to keep you occupied during the journey if needed.
Flight was on time and in fact arrived early. Seating was as comfortable as you can get in coach. Adequate leg room. Good entertainment system and offerings. Food was good. Flight staff was very good and accommodating.
Great, on time departure, friendly and accommodating crew, great leg room, Smith flight
Could not hear any of the announcements. The speakers seemed out of service. I wish the entertainment system would allow me to watch on my own iPad than the airplane ‘s old display.
One of the best crews and best flights I’ve ever had! Really great experience
Friendly boarding crew. Better could have been a bit more substantial food for this 3 plus hour flight.
Just a perfect flight. Fast, everyone was nice, and the flight attendants were very attentive.
I just wrote a text which was supposed to be for the flight from Denver to spokane not Frankfurt to Denver.
On time every leg of the journey and exceptional staff at counter, gate, and on board. I haven’t travelled in US for a long time and was genuinely surprised how pleasant this was.
The delays (5 hrs) were a comedy of errors, and the multiple safety issues encountered were very concerning.
flight delays, staff only communicating when pushed, food service lasting a grand total of 7 minutes, stuck in seat from 45mins into flight until landing
Crew was great and did their best to make us comfortable and captain came out at the beginning to announce why the flight was delayed, weather situation up ahead, and kept us updated throughout the flight.
they made me check my carryon. There was space in the overhead bins.
Nice flight, nice crew but no cookie or napkin with my seltzer.
Trip was smooth bumpy from the wind but no issues at all the crew attendant was very pleasant and had great customer service
This was a Lufthansa flight. Disappointing main meal. Very rough over Canada and arrival at FRA. IFE was almost unusable.
It got me where I needed it to; not much more. It had no competition so that was why I chose it.
Missed the flight because of them and up geting a rental car
Delayd flight out of atl as always miss my conection in dfw no flight untill next day
Comfort of seats, ease of boarding. Food selection could be better
i suspect i caught flu on this flight as i could hear someone coughing a few rows back and ended up with flu a few days later. also tiresome to have to watch movies on my device by holding up smartphone screen, would have liked to have in seat display.
Flight was fine. It took an unusually long time to have baggage delivered to the carousel in ORD.
No problems with flight. Even though I had a short layover in DFW, I was still able to easily make my connection.
American Airlines continues to price it can provide the least comfortable passenger experience in the air. This legacy carrier rivals the budgets for both terrible seats and inadequate amenities. I am a 5’7” woman who is not wider than a coach seat (even on these narrow bodied aircraft). My 3.5 hour flight was terribly uncomfortable because the leg room is inadequate (my knees hit the seat on front of me even when it was not reclined); the seat barely reclines; and the foam padding is worn thin to the extent one can feel the metal supports of the seat. Add to this the fact that the aisle is super narrow, so that the drink cart literally scrapes the arm rest of the aisle seat. It’s basically torture.
Food options were limited which is absolutely embarrassing for a Flight of this size The staff did not come around as much and I am not accustomed to such poor service from American Airlines Drinks I believe were limited to soda and water
Plane took off without me, my stepdad and a dozen other passengers. It went from an hour delay to boarding in 15 montures without notifying anyone. Names were not called overhead. Now I’m missing a day of work and stuck in Charolette overnight paying for a hotel and Ubers out of pocket
I arrived to the airport 2 hours before my American Airlines flight was scheduled to take off. I have TSA pre-check. The airport was crazy packed when I arrived. After momentarily standing in the pre-check line, the TSA agent said that I am not pre-check. Of course I said that I am because I entered my KTN number on all my traveling sites and programs. I had to get out of line and go back to the AA counter to discover that American Airlines did not add my KTN to my boarding pass. I had to call TSA to find out my number, then have AA enter it onto my boarding pass. The emblem would not load onto my boarding pass. By this time, I decided to use my Clear in order to get through TSA but the line was ridiculous long. By the time I made through TSA, I missed my 11:08am flight and was re-booked for the 5:30pm. This is after the AA employee told me I should have gotten to the airport early. AA use to be a dependable airline not I use them only if I have too.
A flight attendant appeared to not be in a good mood that served us; felt she was being short. Overhead announcements were very loud compared to other airlines and the message was not friendly and was a little confusing. This flight was particularly over all was not satisfying compared to previous Sun Country flights.
Airlines should have to add their fees to their fares
I am upset with the hidden fees for bringing on an overhead carryon onto flight and also having to pay for my seat selection. This should all be part of the original price of the ticket. Very poor customer service
Sun country Wi-Fi was not working. Flight was overbooked by two people. Had to pay extra for carryons day before flight and I don’t like hidden fees like that.
WiFi did not work. Woman flight attendant in the rear of the plane was moody.
Flight delayed over 3 hrs due to unexplained issue. No text message to notify.
Well we did not realize at first it was a ground transfer, but we really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend to friends and family. Our driver was awesome and the ride was wonderful. A bathroom on board would have been nice, but at least we were warned that there wasn't one so we went ahead of time.
We were on a fairly long flight and they offered nothing for a snack (unless you paid) and then quickly gave you a drink and were never to be seen again. I would have loved a refill on my water but that was not an option. The flight attendants were standing on ther phone when we boarded and left and never even greeted us. Any other flight I have been on they would have welcomed us on the plane and again greeted us as we got off. Our landline transfer from MSP to Rochester on the other hand was FANTASTIC! We would highly recommend!
Took forever to get the plane loaded and unloaded. Longest I have ever had. I was in the middle of the plane and it almost took a hour after landing to get off of the plane.
Our flight was delayed and there was no communication at the airport.
The truck that was refueling the plane drove away with the hose still connected to the plane and ripped part of the plane off with it
Not have to pay for every single item to take a flight. Seating and delays sucked.
Flight was cancelled and I had to spend the night in the airport lugging my suitcase around
If you don’t check in 24 hours in advance, they will charge you $110 to check your bag instead of the $30. I did not get an email with this information and did not check in. In addition, my flight home was cancelled at layover and I had to spend the night in the airport, and then have another layover at another airport before making it home. Will not fly frontier again.
Terrible. Seats are bad and the baggage policy is inconsistent
Flight delayed 3 times, resulting in late arrival, rental car place gave car away resulting in increased BS charges because I was late. Frontier blows.
I paid for extra leg room. The flimsy plastic seat underneath the floatation seat did not line up with the arm rests. It seemed as if the plastic part was zip tied on but immovable. This caused severe uncomfortable for the duration of the flight.
Left Denver late, then sat on tarmac 30 min after arrival
Better than I expected but I did pay for a seat and carry on bags ahead of time.
Crew members are very rude and not cooperate with passengers.

Kansas City Alaska Air flight among those delayed after FAA issues ground stop
A nationwide ground stop for all Alaska Airlines' flights that was put in place Wednesday morning has had ripple effects into Kansas City, despite the fact that the stop has since been lifted.
"This morning, we experienced an issue while performing an upgrade to the system that calculates our weight and balance. Out of an abundance of caution, we requested a ground stop for all Alaska and Horizon flights, which was instituted at approximately 7:30 a.m. PT. The issue was mitigated, and the ground stop for Alaska and Horizon flights expired at 8:30 a.m. PT,” the airline said in a statement.
The FAA issued that ground stop at the airline's request.
Because of that ground stop, airline officials said residual delays are expected as they begin to release flights nationwide.
A Kansas City flight is on that delay list, per the flykc.com website .
Alaska Air flight 296 to Seattle was scheduled to depart KCI at 1:47 p.m. Wednesday.
That flight has been delayed until at least 2:38 p.m.
"We apologize for the inconvenience and encourage guests to check the status of their flights on alaskaair.com or the Alaska App prior to heading to the airport," officials said in Wednesday's statement.
